Ojama Emperor
I've genuinely never seen this guy before now, but his art's really nice honestly. I'll be real though... His rating would probably be closer to a 10 if his artwork colors were actually like what shows up on his wiki page. Something about the more subdued, dark bluish purple there just looked super good on him. His actual, bright purple does feel more fitting with the rest of the Ojamas, however. The only weirdly realistically details are pretty much localized to his chin area and are honestly pretty ignorable (which is a good thing). His squished up face makes him look like he's in pain lol, especially with his narrowed eyes, but otherwise his head just reminds me of a squid (fun). I have no context for why they would make an Ojama specifically just to wear Elvis Presley's emperor jacket (and name him, of course, Ojama Emperor), but they sure did it, huh. His hat reminds me of the Pope's hat for some reason though????? Pope hat with included floral speedo design. I thought (for some reason) the decorations on his chair's armrests were supposed to be Unowns, but a longer look shows that they're just weird, one eyed Ojama heads, complete with big lips. If you look closely, you'll also see that his throne is modeled a little bit after Ojama Yellow, as it includes his eyestalks as a decoration. His background is fairly unique for an Ojama card, and it honestly looks like it would fit right in with the Performapals' backgrounds (I feel like Barokuriboh is a particularly fitting match).
Rating: 8/10, Your new Performing Squid Pope Emperor, Elvis

👀 would you care to talk about the symbolism of the other yugioh rivals
SMILES. i would love to. i cant speak for revolver or the bridge rivals yet and i havent seen enough arc-v to have a solid grasp on declan's symbolism yet but i will talk a little about the spinoff rivals i do know pretty well
as a sidenote, like. ok so Kaiba's main motifs and 'symbolism' is...well. centered around Blue-Eyes and dragons in general mostly, of course. And he kind of has those weird disease/virus and mild clown motifs that show up a little in his cards, and those are all plenty cool and they work for what seto kaiba needs to be! but imo that doesn't really get nearly as expanded upon either in the show itself or otherwise in official yugioh What Have You, compared to the guys who came later. i didnt have a good spot to say this otherwise so it's going here lol of course thats just my opinion on the matter
Chazz: anyway, so something I notice is explored a bit more with the spinoff rivals is that they'll have these motifs that actually get extended into their archetypes in the actual tcg, and it's so SO cool to see. Chazz/Manjoume has his whole iconic thunder motif of course, and he also gets that little s2 stint with the Society of Light giving him a brief Bright Distressing White motif and BOTH OF THOSE. HAVE BEEN INVOKED WITH ARMED DRAGON LV 10 CARDS
i really especially love Armed Dragon Thunder Lv. 10-- its whole effect is the Manjoume Thunder chant!!! IT'S DOING THE POSE. IT'S SO FUN.
and of course also Chazz is a character very tied to the symbolism of "weak" duel monsters, of "weak" decks, one-star monsters and the Ojamas especially, and that in general is such a fun spin on a yugioh rival. we do a complete 180 from Guy Tied Almost Exclusively to Very Powerful Dragon to Guy So Symbolically Correlated With Weak Monsters He Dresses Up as One in His Last (and one of his best) Duels. peace and love on planet finding strength in the unremarkable
Jack: ok so Jack is an interesting one. He's very symbolically tied to being the 'King' and to underworldly draconic hellfire imagery [which in of itself is really cool, and I think there's some very interesting dichotomy in there with how Jack's tied with a fiery hellish dragon motif but Yusei's tied to a cosmic heavenly dragon motif...i really love Jack and Yusei as narrative counterparts.] But the thing is, in the same vein Jack's tied deeply to Burning Soul-- the issue is 5D's also very clearly puts forward that the Burning Soul iconography is also tied (and in large part originated) with the Legendary Signer...who is. an indigenous brown South American guy.
And they. gave it to one of the arguably whitest Yugioh characters. Erm. 🥴 classic yugioh racially questionable moments !This is what I mean when I say the spinoff rivals have far more interesting symbolism to me--sometimes the interest is out of uhhhh not great narrative handling!! Gives even more to chew on.
Shark: yeah Shark is the one that makes me insane. There's no way to talk about him and his symbolism without getting into deep Zexal Spoilers, so. Be mindful of that. I'm gonna talk about him and Kite under the cut
ok so Shark is like the goddamn yugioh rival symbolism rivalry gold rush. You trip into the Reginald Ryoga "Shark" Kamishiro Kastle motifs and symbolism well and youre falling for ten thousand years. You cant talk about him without having to get into him also being Nasch, and then you have to talk about the Barian Emperors, and that second you get into that is the second you get sandblasted with some of the most insane symbolism yugioh writers have every cooked up.
There is so much goddamn demonology imagery and motif and symbolism jammed into the Barians I will be here all day getting into it. NOT EVEN GETTING INTO THE BUDDHISM INFLUENCE TOO. You cannot convince me that the Barian Emperors aren't supposed to correlate with the Seven Princes of Hell, alongside their deeply implied Seven Deadly Sin symbolism (and the Ursa Major symbolism too of course--it's what they get their names from!) To me I think Nasch is supposed to be tied to Leviathan especially, being an aquatic-based monster, but he could also correlate to Lucifer, playing on the pop cultural idea of Lucifer being the leader of Hell (and in demonology, typically associated with pride...pretty big trait of Shark's!)
That's just me barely scratching the surface with him. He's got the demonology symbolism, and Ursa Major motif, and seven deadly sins symbolism, and the sea predator symbolism and motif, and the royalty symbolism (good god his DUB SURNAME IS FUCKING KASTLE. THE PALER PART OF HIS HAIR LOOKS LIKE A CROWN.) And also all the insane numerology symbolism Zexal is leaking out the ears with. he's the fucking best. Why did they make this 14 year old so jampacked with this shit. it RULES.
Kite: it's so neat that Zexal has two rivals effectively. ANYWAY. Kite doesn't have as much 'oh my god it keeps going. it keeps going. oh holy shit' tier symbolism as whatever going on with Shark but he's got some stuff going on; I think it's especially cool that he and Mizar/Mizael have this "light vs. time" motif going on with their dragons, a Galaxy-Eyes arms race based on the speed of light. In general Kite's really associated with light, in the the very scientific sense, be it the way his jacket turns white when he duels, his Photon-filled deck, HELL even literally the way his eyes get damaged and his vision suffers is arguably tied to it, and it rocks. I feel like Kite is (esp since Zexal is supposed to parallel DM in a lot of ways) really the rival meant to parallel Kaiba the most, even down to having a dragon ace monster based around something bright (white dragon, photon dragon,) but I think they really took the time to expand on that inherent symbolism and show it off in even more ways narratively than we see with Kaiba. it's just cool the more i think about it the more i really like what they did with kite.
#THIS GOT LONG. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE !!!!!!!!!!!! HERE ARE WORDS#ygo posting#asks#anonymous#when i know about declan i will have things to say i am sure. for now im rotating these four guys around#dana's ygo bible study

@ygotober2020 day 22. Prompt: Favorite Link Monster
Boy am I lucky there's an Ojama Link Monster! I don't even know how link summoning works, but I'll always pick these cute little guys! Once I figure this link stuff out, I'm sure Ojama Emperor will find a place in my decks

Hui, sense I been doing so much yugioh stuff lately, one big thing I wanna tackle soon is making some costum cards for the characters I made or add to existing characters if needed.
These cards will have, at times, questionable usage in the real tcg as I will design them in a anime style contect where super specific cards are just a thing. Not all will be like that, however the first card I have in mind is clearly a card made for Livia and her deck. Sense she has a strange blue-eyes and meklord deck, so yeah, kinda ojama/xyz/armed dragon jank with Chazz, but I will try to make it not AS janky as those. I know the synchro monster i will design will be a bit less janky but will also have a pretty high level, a level 10 synchro monster. That will also be designed for Livia.
I will draw the art myself and learn problem solving card text as much as possible, I just hope I can manage the when effects because emperors for some reason are when effects which can miss timing. Gonna make sure any meklord support I make will be if effects . . . Or mandatory effects if possible and not bricky.
Hope you look forward to that~

I love when people refer to Aporia trio as the "Meklord Emperors" aka their ace monsters, it's like if we called Yami the Dark Magician or Chazz an Ojama
#yes they get called 'emperors' in the show for some reason BUT they aren't meklords!! it's funny!!!#personal thoughts#my post

Yu-Gi-Oh characters with stands
Yugi-Black Magic Woman(based off of Dark Magician Girl, as there’s not a corresponding song for a dude that works as well)
Yami Yugi-YK Osiris(based off of the Japanese name for Slifer the Sky Dragon)
Kaiba-Dragonforce(based off of you know damn well what)
Joey-No Sleep Till Brooklyn(based off of nyeh)
Yami Bakura-Albuquerque The Movie(based off of his inability to ever get to the fucking point)
Jaden-Holding Out For a Hero(based off his Elemental Hero deck theme)
Chaz-Emperor’s New Clothes(based off of his redemption arc that he didn’t deserve but totally earned thanks entirely to not trying to summon a demon to eat the Ojama Trio after 10 seconds of knowing them)
Yusei-Chasing Dragons(based off of his initial arc to get Stardust Dragon back from Jack)
Jack-Land Down Under(because Australia)
Goodwin-Born To Be Wild(because he’s responsible for there being so many CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES)(there you bastards, I said it. It’s still my favorite season).
Every other character past the third seres-fuck ‘em. The card game went to shit after they kept throwing in new summoning mechanics. Unless there’s actually some hidden gems in there, in which case lemme known and I’ll give it a watch.

Oops! ———————————————— Target 1 card you control; destroy it. ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Extreme Force (EXFO-EN080), 2018 Mega-Tin Mega Pack (MP18-EN223)
Some cards' effects literally goes against us, making us lose resources and/or allow the opponent gain benefits from it. This doesn't refer to costs or certain drawbacks of their activation, but their entire role is to be counterproductive. While clearly useless on their own, these cards become part of unique strategies to turn their negatives into great positives. From forcing certain interactions to turning any advantages the opponent might obtain against them, these cards have the potential to lead bizarre strategies arround them.
"Oops!" is a Trap Card with a simple yet potentially dangerous effect against us. By activating "Oops!", we will target a card on our field to be destroyed. Clearly an effect that has no big results whatsoever on its own given the fact that will clear the field from one of our monsters or backrow cards. However, "Oops!" is a basic example of these kind of cards capable of unleash incredible outcomes when targetting the right card, allowing to not only force certain conditions but have some additional uses under certain scenarios.
While "Oops!" is not a card you will see commonly in any Deck given that will damage current strategies, it will stand out targetting cards with effects triggered when destroyed. There are a variety of monsters that instead of waiting for the opponent to destroy them can depend on "Oops!", like summoning Meklord Emperors by destroying any monster on our field, or forcing the Special Summon effects of cards like "Pinch Hopper" and "Rise of the Snake Deity". These applications can be used during the Battle Phase, potentially giving us additional attacks as said effects summons other monsters to battle with. "Oops!" doesn't limit itself to summon interactions as many cards use effects involving the destruction of our own cards, ranging from "Sangan" and "Supply Squad" providing us new cards to our hand, "Fencing Fire Ferret" destroying an opponent's monster, to builds like Fire Kings constantly destroying each other for a variety of outcomes. Obviously "Oops!" can aim towards cards in our backrow to aim for similar interactions, like destroying "Ojamagic" to obtain Ojamas in our hand, "Dark Coffin" and "Blast with Chain" disrupting the opponent's game, or the Artifact archetype being summoned when destroyed during the opponent's turn along a variety of effects to follow with. Let's not ignore the chainable nature of Trap Cards like "Oops!", as can become of value to respond against non-destructive effects so a monster goes to our Graveyard for a later retrieval, as well working along chaining effects like “Chain Strike” and “Chain Summoning as targets the cards in the Chain before their effects are resolved.
With no other purpose but to destroy a card under our control, "Oops!" is undoubtly a card the average player won't work with. Its usage is overall a big loss in common situations, and even if is used to avoid serious effects like banishment there are better countermeasures to depend on. However, the potential of "Oops!" comes from forcing the activation of effects when certain cards are destroyed, making us less dependant of the opponent's actions. If anything the true problem arround "Oops!" is that there are similar effects to destroy our own cards but also obtain other advantages in the process, like wiping the entire board with "Dark Hole" or "Needle Ceiling" as triggers our monsters' effects, or cards like "Circle of the Fire Kings" and "Mystik Wok" providing benefits in exchange of destroying a monster. In resume, "Oops!" is that kind of card that although carries several negatives it can turn them into positives under the right management.
Personal Rating: C
+ Can force the effect of several cards' effects when are destroyed + Its chainable activation allows us to avoid certain threats as well potentially provide more attacks along certain summoning effects
- Destroying a card of ours is overall a big loss in most Decks - Requires its own Deck - There are other options that will destroy our cards and obtain other benefits in the process

Ojama Emperor
“3 Beast monsters, including an ‘Ojama’ monster While ‘Ojama Country’ is in a Field Zone, this card gains 3000 ATK, also it cannot be destroyed by card effects. Your opponent takes any battle damage you would have taken from attacks on this card, instead. You can target 1 non-Link ‘Ojama’ monster in your GY; Special Summon it, also for the rest of this turn, you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except Fusion Monsters. You can only use this effect of ‘Ojama Emperor’ once per turn.”
