What got me into The Untamed and wangxian:

I think I had seen some stills from The Untamed long before I started watching, things where they looked soulfully at each other or struck some cool pose, but with the wigs and clothes and all I thought that though beautiful, it was probably a very stiff, mannered and solemn affair. Kind of like the boring bits of LOTR, so I wasn't very tempted.

And when I saw the name on ao3, I assumed it was about young stubbled werewolves (probably a mix-up in my brain btwn Teen Wolf and Supernatural + how it sounds).

But then two months ago I happened upon this song. It's super good, Jolene The Untamed style, about Wei Wuxian/Lan Wangji from the perspective of Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian's brother:

After that I found some more lively gifs, and these about Wei Wuxian being Extra (all from this post by ohsehuns) perfectly captures that side of him that might not be as clear in the romantic gifs. I felt that this was a hero I could get in to. And this range in the characterisation really really contributes to making the story such fun and also heartwrenching and sweet.
