#Oh yeah and it was letting go of Tetsusaiga

Okay so, every week I keep seeing people go "But everything Sesshomaru is doing in Yashahime is in character, actually! He only cares about himself! There's no character assassination going on!" and like, it's been goddamn years since I've watched Inuyasha, but...I don't even feel like what he's doing in Yashahime tracks for Sesshomaru at the BEGINNING of the OG show, nevermind the end. Like, I feel like he was NEVER this much of an ass. Thoughts?
Since we don't have any actual answers of wtf is going on, it's hard to say if Sunrise have actually butcheted his character but the implications and hints certainly do butcher him. The thing is with Sesshoumaru is that yes he was cruel but he didn't do things for no reason. It was usually if people were in his way or hindering a goal of some kind. And throughout the series, you see him commiting less and less cruelties and even starting to defend and save Inuyasha and his group. He shows sympathy for Kagura dying and looks after both Rin and Kohaku, staying by an unconscious Kagome and defending her.
There WOULD be character assassination if Sesshoumaru is the reason Inukag was separated from Moroha for 14 years. If he willingly fought against them. If he really did just abandon his kids in the forest. It does not align with OG Sesshoumaru and anyone who thinks so is likely too blind sighted by his facade not to get that he's a character who shows care by actions not words. In fact he lies quite often about not caring for Inuyasha, only to save him from getting killed many times. Yashahime understood this trait... For one episode (and thats bc Rumiko wrote it) the scene where Sango exits the hut wondering why they havent been attacked only to see Sesshoumaru silently guarding them sums him up perfectly. He won't ask for thanks or acknowledgement and won't give it, but he always watches over and protects what matters to him.
Him abandoning his kids doesn't align with him always leaving Rin with Jaken and Ah Un for protection.
Him interfering with Inukag and possibly ruining their happiness doesn't align with him defending and saving their asses during the final fight with Naraku and beforehand.
Him possibly having ended up impregnating Rin destroys him beyond recognition because it ruins his character development. Which if people missed the memo was - Learning to care for someone (a child) unselfishly and without expectation of anything in return. That is what it means to love platonically and move past what he was introduced as - a selfish person bent on power.
Sesshoumaru grew compassionate, y'all just have episode 7 Sess stuck in your head as the embodiment of his character when you should really have episode 188+ Sess in there.

Sessrins do not interact. You will be blocked on site and without question. Stay in your own god damn tags. We are not changing the anti tag either. The point of it is to AVOID the tag if you don’t like it. Stop doing the stupid.
RAGE FILLED RANTING BELOW.
(I did not filter my language. I’m like this close to throwing up. I’m so sick of this. This last episode better be the last because-)
Ah yes. Nothing to make an already not-so-good day worse is by Sunrise possibly getting a season 2 for Trashahime. Gods, I feel sick. How are they even getting approval for it???
It’s ratings have been dropping since episode 15 because of the obvious child grooming and pedophilia, and even more since the blatant homophobic, transphobic, and racist displays, and the continued disrespect towards the OG cast. What the hell even is the plot?????
Finding the dream butterfly?? Well no one seems to care about that. Definitely don’t put any effort into searching for it. Defeating Kirinmaru??? Well no one seems to care about that either. Man doesn’t even seem to care or remember what his own evil scheme is. Zero???? Sorry who is she again??? Some scorned lady who made rainbow pearls from tears because Toga said he wasn’t interested in her?? Oh wait- suddenly the reason why tetsusaiga and tenseiga exist has changed?? Trashahime is literally rewriting all the lore that was stated previously in the original Inuyasha series??
Well gee, that does explain SOMETHING here. Or does it? Because why, if in all that time in the OG series when the rainbow pearls were “existing”, didn’t Naraku think to grab them alongside the Shikon Jewel???? Not to mention the new time wheel or whatever which can REWIND TIME.
SO THE ENTIRE TIME IN THE OG NARAKU COULD HAVE KILLED INUYASHA, STOLEN THE JEWEL, AND COULD HAVE EVEN FORCIBLY TAKEN KIKYO LIKE HE WAS PLANNING!??? As a result, Kagome would never have come to the feudal era because the Jewel would never form inside her body, Miroku would have been swallowed up by the Wind Tunnel, alongside any illegitimate kids he might have had, and Sango would have never lost her village. BUT HE DIDN’T!???? WHY!????
This is the most evil, sinister, douche canoe, mastermind in anime itself. A monster who has killed thousands of people- murdered entire towns and villages on a whim, and to create a mother freaking river of blood to open a gate to the underworld, who had been plotting for over FIFTY YEARS. This is a man who sold his soul to demons because he was so lust-hungry for a god damn priestess and was bitter towards Inuyasha for “stealing her” from him. You KNOW he would have snatched up those pearls. You KNOW he would have used that dumbass time wheel to make things work in his face.
BUT HE DIDN’T. Why? Oh, I know!!! Her’s what the explanation is!! Because it’s not god damn canon and Sunrise is pulling things out of their asses to make a story that doesn’t make sense and has zero continuity at all- so much so to the point that they’re trying to rewrite the original and ret-conning next to everything that involves Inu no Taisho/Toga/Inupapa.
The protagonists have zero motivation, don’t care about anything, never ask questions, and are literally just existing for the purpose to exist because a perverted old man (Sumisawa) wants to live out a fantasy where he can have a child bride. 🤢 There’s no way this can be getting a second season. No way.
If this followed OG Inuyasha at all, MirSan would have been busting their asses to find InuKag and save them. Koga would have murdered Yawaragi (?)(I don’t know her stupid name) for selling Moroha into slavery AND he never would have pawned her off to someone else at all!!! This is KAGOME’s kid. Koga would kill himself before letting anything happen to Kagome or Moroha.
And Sesshomaru. LORD SESSHOMARU. This man despises schemes. Loathes them. He hates manipulation. He is straight forward, proud, and the literal guardian of children. He would never go along with Kirinmaru, and he sure as hell wouldn’t marry one of the two kids he’s been protecting for a solid year. Rumiko Takahashi herself stated that his ideal WOMAN was someone ELEGANT and REFINED. Not a freaking wild child.
There is no “great 14 year scheme” that’s in the planning. Not with Sesshomaru. That isn’t even Sesshomaru in the god damn Trashahime garbage hole!!!! They’re nothing more than cheap imitations.
And Rin. She was eight years old when she lost her parents and brothers to bandits, and became a traumatized mute because of it. She was then repeatedly abused by the villagers who took her in. Later, she was killed by wolves. Revived by Sess, she travelled with him. Later dies AGAIN because her soul got snatched away when she was kidnapped to the underworld. Revived by InuKimi.
And- what??? You mean to tell me she’s supposed to be dying for a THIRD TIME in the trash heap you call a show??? Dying, after having been raped and abused by the adult who was meant to be a safe space, a guardian, a protector. Forced to give birth. And no one fucking cared. A fifteen year old girl.
Yeah, no. This ain’t Inuyasha. It’s a fucking insult. To the series, to those who hold the series close to their hearts, and to those who have gotten out of some very very dark times because of this series being such a comfort.
And it makes me sick to the stomach knowing this... this awful disgusting trash is possibly getting a second season. Just let the garbage burn already. Please. Nobody wants this. Everything after episode 3 just went to shit. Just stop. You’re no “true fan”. You just want to destroy it. Make people ashamed of having watched or read Inuyasha. Stop fucking pretending to care and own up to your own bullshit. Please.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words
SessKag Week 2020 Day 7: Random Prompt- Actions Speak Louder Than Words
I don’t own anything Inuyasha.
A/N: Tropey tropey trope trope. If there are errors… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
…
The large beast swung his tail at the charging group and Kagome, taking the extra half-moment to ensure Shippo had jumped out of harm’s way, could not move in time. The tip of the tail tripped her and, with a graceless tumble, she hit the dirt hard.
The scratches down her shin burned and her shoulder protested her attempt to rise. Hissing, she stumbled again. Kagome’s head hung low as she tried to catch her breath and take her thoughts away from the pain.
Suddenly, a shadow loomed over her and she recoiled, bracing for an inevitable impact. Instead, she only heard a familiar, and dismissive, sigh.
“Hn, perhaps you should hide with the children, miko.”
She raised her heated gaze to the taiyoukai, ready to insult the haughty demon in return, but stopped short.
He was offering his hand out to her.
Tentatively, she reached out and grabbed it. As soon as she was on her feet again, he disappeared, already swinging his blade at the enemy.
Without time to think about what had just happened, she cleared her mind and raced forward, feeling her power, and her spirit, rise to the moment.
.
The dark priestess was formidable. With her ability to use spiritual energy and dao blades in unison they had to adjust their strategy several times on the fly just to get a solid hit on her.
Finally, she had screamed out in defeat and fallen. The group began to tend to their wounds, and Kagome looked around for their unofficial, but more frequent, members.
Hidden under the shadows of trees, she saw the bright orange checkers of Rin’s clothing. She grabbed for the first aid kit and, subconsciously, tucked her hair behind her ears in a fruitless endeavor to smooth it out.
She plastered on a caring smile and made her way towards Sesshoumaru and his charges. Rin caught her gaze quickly and she saw pain in the little girl’s eyes.
“Rin-chan!” she exclaimed, “What’s the matter? Are you okay?”
The girl nodded and wiped away her unsuccessfully suppressed tears. “Hai, Kagome-sama. But, Sesshoumaru-sama’s hand-”
“Rin,” the taiyoukai’s deep voice interrupted with such finality the girl did not even stumble over the next unspoken word. She looked to the ground unsure of where the fault lay within her concern, but caring deeply about acquiencing to his wishes.
Kagome’s face wrinkled in a scowl. “Don’t be mad at her for caring! What happened?”
Sesshoumaru sat against a large tree, staring off to seemingly nothing, and did not answer her.
The miko scoffed and, in her ire, approached him without realizing what a bad idea it probably was.
“Hey!” she demanded. “I’m talking to you!”
Lazily, his eyes shifted to her own. Then he just stared. However, she saw the tightening of his jaw and her frustration lessened. “Wait, are you really hurt?”
He quickly looked away. “It is nothing.”
A tickle of fear rose in her heart. No wonder Rin had been upset, barely anything seemed to affect him.
“Let me see.”
His eyes narrowed. “No.”
That arrogant, self-righteous attitude annoyed her to no end. So, she knelt bedside him and tugged at his sleeve as if trying to pry something from Shippo’s hands. “Like I care if you are hurt or not! Just, let me see.”
He raised an eyebrow and slowly revealed his hand which had been burned from holy energy up to the elbow.
Kagome huffed, “You’re a pain in the ass, do you know that?”
The confusion in his expression only deepened as she scolded him. Her tone was rough, but as she wrapped his injury, her touch was gentle.
.
Sesshoumaru stood alone, as he often enjoyed, to meditate on whatever vexing problem that currently plagued him. For centuries it had been the location of Tetsusaiga. Then, it had been the truth behind the blade and his half-brother’s connection. Following that was the issue concerning the cursed Naraku, but now…
His isolation was interrupted as Inuyasha leapt from a nearby tree and landed behind him. From his scent, the youkai could tell he was agitated but not outright hostile.
“Oi!” the hanyou screamed. “You and I need to talk!”
“Hn,” he sighed in response. The night was creeping into the last light of day. He would have to return to his charges soon, and his problem still tugged at his desired peace of mind. Having his half-brother interrupt was certainly annoying as well.
Inuyasha gritted his teeth and growled, “What’d think you’re doing showing up all of the time?”
Sesshoumaru looked behind his shoulder towards his little brother. “I go where I desire.”
“Keh! What exactly is it that you want? To wait till I’m weak enough to finish me off? To watch me fail?” His growl still rolled in the silent space that stretched between them.
Finally, Sesshoumaru looked back to the horizon. It was almost fully dark now. “If I thought you weak,” he began, “I would not fight at your side. If I wanted you dead you would have been by now. And if I was still ashamed,” he paused, and a hint of regret betrayed the timbre of his voice, “You would know.” He turned fully towards him and stared him down, challenging him to deny his words.
Inuyasha’s ear flattened against his head and he sputtered. After a moment, he finally shook himself and said, “Keh, like I give a damn what you think.” The indignant tone from earlier was all but gone, and, suddenly feeling very awkward, he ran away.
It was not until Inuyasha was almost back at camp did he forget himself enough to smile.
.
The next time he appeared, Kagome beamed, then denied any excitement she had felt when Shippo asked.
.
“Look, Sesshoumaru-sama!” Rin exclaimed. “Kagome-sama is down there!”
He fought against glancing to where his ward was pointing. “Hn, my brother’s miko is of no concern.”
Rin giggled and Sesshoumaru, losing his own fight, took a peak to the ground as they flew by.
.
In the next battle, Kagome fired an arrow passed Sesshoumaru’s ready blade, effectively purifying the demon who was dumb enough to go after their shards.
Feeling cheated, the taiyoukai looked back at her. “I do not require your assistance.”
Her prideful smile dropped and she stomped her foot. “Oh yeah? Well, I don’t want to help you anyways if you are going to be so ungrateful!”
.
That night over their cook fire, Sango focused on Kagome and asked, “What is going on with you and Sesshoumaru?”
The miko waved her hands nervously. “Nothing!” she insisted with a blush creeping up her neck.
.
Kagome wandered to the river’s edge, trying to appear nonchalant as she concentrated on her surroundings. She thought she had felt-
“What are you searching for?”
She yelped at his sudden appearance and fought against the embarrassment welling up inside her. “No one!”
He stared at her for an uncomfortable amount of time and watched her fidget. Then, his lips twitch just slightly in a reluctant smirk. “I did not ask ‘who’ you were searching for.”
She was staring at his foreign smile and forgot to deny his insinuation.
.
“Ooohh,” Jaken grumbled to himself, “Sesshoumaru-sama spends too much of his time concerning himself with humans. First, this stupid child he awoke with Tensaiga. Then, with a demon slayer boy. Now, that filth Inuyasha’s priestess has-”
“Jaken,” Sesshoumaru warned, and it was enough to silence the small demon and send him to the floor groveling. He did not need to answer to the musings of a lower demon, or to anyone for that matter. But, with an unenthusiastic shrug, he did anyways. “She is clearly the best way to enact my revenge against Naraku.”
Then, he heard her call out for him, the alarming call drifting on the heady wind of autumn, and he snarled. With a blur, he was gone.
.
The woody spike of Naraku was coming straight for her heart. Her arrow was alight with the strongest energy she had ever conjured and when she fired it tore through her nemensis like rice paper. The normally confident spider roared before turning her way and charging. She had another arrow readied, but did not even realize she had called for aid.
The evil hanyou was almost upon her. Determined tears had trailed down her cheeks, but she held her ground. She shook, but she was not scared.
She was waiting.
Naraku’s dark miasma was about to crash down on her when a sharp slice tore through it, the energy of the attack cracking the sky, and sent the wretched creature back. Their foe retreated, but swore that they would never get the best of him.
.
She couldn’t sleep. Every time she closed her eyes she saw those red eyes ready to eat her alive and the silver hair of Sesshoumaru blocking the path. He had appeared right before her, almost an instant after she had unwittingly called for him.
Then, he had looked over her shoulder and she saw the concern that twisted his normally pristine features.
She had been entranced, but he quickly broke whatever spell he had on her when he said, “Move. You are troublesome.”
And her anger quickly replaced whatever pride she had felt before.
Of course, they had won the day, but she was still disturbed. Kagome tossed, tried to sleep, and saw his golden eyes take her in. She turned fitfully, pulling her sleeping bag above her head, and saw his gritted teeth and protective stance- a warning to anything that would dare even look at her strange.
Kagome pursed her lips and tossed the coverings off of her. It was no use. She wouldn’t get any sleep with her traitorous mind reliving the scene over and over again.
Tiptoeing out of their hut for the night, she walked into the moonlight. The breeze was chilled and brushed against her skin. The adrenaline from the battle still had her nerves on edge, and her shivers had nothing to do with the cold.
Eventually, she reached the old, comforting sight of the well that carried her through the ages and sat at the edge to wait. To no one, she said, “This is stupid. What did you think would be here?”
Then, he was.
He shined under the moon and her breath hitched. Swallowing her apprehension, Kagome asked, “Wha-what are you doing here?” Her increased heart rate betrayed her. She was pleased.
Sesshoumaru smirked. “I assure you, it was not to be in your presence.” He walked closer.
“Thank you for protecting me today.”
“Hn, will you require my protection more in the future?”
Eagerly, she shook her head and smiled. “No,” she lied.
He was in front of her now, as close as he had been when he appeared to strike down Naraku. She could feel the heat from his skin and the dangerous sizzle of his youki against her own energy.
“Do you want to protect me, Sesshoumaru?”
He did not break away from her gaze. “No,” he lied.
Slowly, his hand reached up and brushed the bangs from her forehead. His clawed fingers lingered as they ran through her hair. “Are you nervous, Kagome?”
She was shaking. “No.”
His hand was on her cheek, guiding her lips to his, and stopped a breath away. “You can stop this,” he warned, as if she would want to.
Kagome closed her eyes and the distance between them, then smiled against his kiss.

YashaHime Episode 5 Iji Ramble
What I thought was just going to be a “Queen Kags got shoved into Kikyou’s shadow :|” two para turned into a bit of a ramble so.. incoherent rambling under cut.
Will Kagome ever not have her worth be directly tied into the fact she’s a reincarnation of a GREAT PRIESTESS KIKYO? How about, I don’t know, Moroha was born from the great priestess who traveled through time, tamed the wild InuYasha, destroyed the Shikon no Tama and saved the world versus being likely corrupted by it like ANOTHER PRIESTESS WE KNOW? Am I the only one who noticed this?
Why are our kids being stepped over for Taisho and Kikyou as far as recognition? Wat? WAT?
And the rouge of Moroha’s. I don’t remember that being a thing in the Manga, but I thought InuYasha gave that rouge to Kikyou in the Anime series as a show of affection to her, saying it was one of the last remnants of what he had of his mother, Izayoi. And I remember Naraku showing that he had the rouge and crushing it in his hand as InuYasha to drive home his betrayal to her.
I’m HOPING if it was restored that it was by Kaede and she gave it to Moroha after InuYasha and Kagome poofed for reasons still strangely unexplained because she knew it had been InuYasha’s, which is still a little odd that she’d give a gift he gave her mother’s essential rival as a show of devotion, but it’d be even more strange, imho, for InuYasha to have either given it to Kagome or Moroha after he’d given it to Kikyou.
“Here you go, Kagome, Love of my life, bringer of my peace, completion of my world - Here is rouge that is the last remaining remnant of my human mother that I cherished so much I was nearly drowned over if you hadn’t stopped me from falling into the trap of her image.” “It looks used?” “Yeah, that’s probably from when I gave this to Kikyou, love of my life, bringer of my peace, completion of my world who I nearly tortured you with the thoughts that I would abandon you for her at the end of our journey and let her drag me to hell because of residual feelings for her and personal guilt. Just ignore those :)”
And, again, I’m probably thinking too much here but I’m so confused as to why Kags who fought so hard to be known in her own right and to be considered powerful outside of Kikyou’s shadow is nowhere being given her dues. Moroha’s blood having more taste of Taisho’s and the rouge being able to make her taste moreso like it? When her dad’s, his son didn’t taste as good or as alike to him? Is Kagome’s blood doing that? How does that even work? I know it’s magic and demons and all fantasy but this basic stuff MAKES NO SENSE!? HOW DOES BLOOD TASTE SKIP GENERATIONS? TELL ME SUNRISE, EXPLAIN YOURSELF!
Setsuna and Towa are the same as they always have been to me. I think even if I was a SessRin shipper I’d be pretty meh about these two. Towa, the fighting fiend, wanting to just apologize to a literal monster who sucks out the bones of living men and animals alike? Just apologize and move on? What? Even Kagome didn’t think like that and she was pretty pacifistic. Setsuna is everything about Sesshoumaru I didn’t enjoy so that’s a no brainer that I’m waiting for their scenes to be over so we can get on with the plot. ‘I’m not so weak I need to uproot my life to get the ability to sleep back. Leave me alone, annoying sister who came to the warring states era to essentially just help me with that one task.’
Moroha’s ingenuity still gets me and has me grin. The purification salt in her mouth for the demon was pretty awesome as far as smarts. Would like to know what her debt is about. Her silliness gets ramped up a little too much sometimes. I think they want her to fill too many roles to keep the trio interesting; smart and expositiony, aggressive and foolhardy, and a hint comic relief. Sometimes it works, but this episode I was kind of meh for me. She felt a little flat until the fight, but they all kind of did so I think maybe that was just an issue with an episode for me?
Hearing her belt out InuYasha’s attacks was total fanservice and I was there for it, tbh.
I hadn’t intended this to be a full blown rant about the episode, especially given that for all of the balls it rolled into motion it didn’t really feel like a lot at any given point. It moved at a breakneck pace, like they all have, as if they’re playing catch up to something and yet every episode really doesn’t have -that- much happen to it. It all gets crammed into the second half and is done quickly. I don’t remember the episodes of IY feeling like this, but maybe that’s just nostalgia goggles. I remember thinking as I was watching “This kind of a fight, if it’s part of such a big aspect of the coming plot, feels like it should have had an episode or two of build up and a few touch and goes with the enemy to signal its significance to the over arching plot.” Kind of like how some of Naraku’s minions would have an episode or three arc of a grand scheme that moved the team closer to their end goal or a revelation before being shooed off or how a major development/fight between Sesshoumaru and InuYasha would have an episode or two building up to them running into each other.
InuYasha has always beaten you over the head with concepts but you could still get completely blindsided by something or they’d say JUST ENOUGH to get you interested or curious. Here, stuff that seems important isn’t given much time or energy narratively, stuff that doesn’t seem important is given a bunch of attention (Setsuna learning how to play violin really had to happen in 3 days? She couldn’t have had that been a developmental thing throughout and something to grow with?) and we’re getting bombarded with exposition about things but nobody seems to be talking about anything... interesting?
I can see them not necessarily ‘dancing around’ the subject of the inu tachi, if they all know why they’re gone and they’ve been gone for years then they wouldn’t be talking about it because it’s common knowledge; that’s natural. Narratively for the audience, though.. Why would that be obvious not to talk about but Moroha’s blood and lineage need attention? That’s where the logic breaks me. We already know Moroha is a 1/3 demon. We know who her parents are (We can’t go long anymore without someone comparing her to one of them anymore, which is getting old and repetitive.). They know who her parents are. Why do we need to spend a half of an episode of Myoga expositing about -who- her family line is and less about their being missing? Myoga talking about how she tastes better than her father, but no mention of ‘I miss him’ or ‘Poor Lord InuYasha, I wish I knew where he was’ or ‘He was gone from us too soon, Lady Moroha. You would have loved him.’ or anything like he used to go on about Taisho to his sons? He clearly was endeared enough to either InuYasha or Moroha to be hanging with her to the point he didn’t meet up with Setsuna to determine she was Sesshoumaru’s kid before now.
The same thing goes for how Kohaku and Miroku and Sango’s boy (I can not remember his name for the life of me) Didn’t know about Sesshoumaru and his daughters or that Setsuna was related to him and, for all intents and purposes, Rin - who Kohaku had traveled with for some time? The lack of details or discussion around these things is feeling more contrived than natural at this point seeing as they clearly remember these people, they’ve interacted with them as adults (Setsuna’s memory of Miroku now confirmed) so the memory wipe thing seems... odd. Unless it’s a situation where they’re all enchanted to remember their existence but placated as to not to go seeking them out. Or maybe they searched and didn’t find anything but again.. Miroku talking to Setsuna and her not knowing who he was despite growing up in the same village they settled down in? Was that just an illusion? What is up with this timeline?
I kind of hope we’re not going to get our fix of the old group through sequences like Kohaku and Sango’s son where each character hits a milestone or a type of demon and someone who knew the original group gives a “Oh, when your Mom/Dad fought that during their journey they learned/defeated it by doing this!” InuYasha got it a few times, but often that was because he was having to learn a new skill via Tetsusaiga, or Kagome needing to learn to do something Kikyou once did, but it was always handled with an almost sense of reverence and feeling of a new challenge, not so much ‘Here’s a clip that the audience would remember that this character will likely shrug off or seem weird learning because they don’t really care about people they don’t remember (All three) or even like (Setsuna).’
Final note: Where are the damned twins? I hope they have a boy crazy streak. Miroku was cringe at times with his groping but the girls being the flirty ones would be an adorable change of pace.

The Language He Speaks
I WROTE SOME SMUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT!!!!
I’ve been, like, five months smut-free and I never agreed to those terms and conditions, so here we fucking are!
Note: This takes place post canon, recently after Kagome returns to the Feudal Era.
------------------------------
Inuyasha's ember eyes bore through her skin, anger seething from him as he inspected a red-sprinkled-purple bruise on her side, just below her ribcage, tapping it lightly with the pads of his fingers. Kagome knew he was waiting for her to wince as he palpated the thickness of the welt, but she held her breath instead, not wanting to pour gasoline on his already-furious flames. The sound from his throat was basically a growl as he moved onto the next wound, examining the depth of the decently-sized scrape flaked with dried blood at the front of her shoulder.
"You should have listened to me, Kagome." Inuyasha said, disgruntled.
"You've said that, like, twelve times already." She sighed, backing away from his calloused hands so she could wrap her torso within her kosode again. Maybe if he couldn't see the bruises and scratches decorating her upper body, he wouldn't be so angry. Out of sight, out of mind. Or so they say.
"Yeah, and you have yet to acknowledge that I'm right!"
"You're welcome for helping, by the way." She huffed, giving a heavy jerk to the knot of her kosode as she secured it before scooting her way around the hanyou on the wooden floor of their hut to prod the flickering fire in the pit. The air in the room swirled as she practically felt his irritability climb to new heights.
"Kagome, I specifically told you to stay behind for a damn good reason!" The hanyou barked, grasping her arm as he slid closer, demanding her undivided attention. "Fighting demon's isn't like what it used to be! The jewel was their primary goal the last time you shot your arrow at anything, but now it's just pure hatred fueling them! They may not come half as often as before, sure, but when they do, it's a battle for your fucking life!"
"And the more people you have on your side, the better your chances are!"
"No-"
"Besides, they were out for blood when it came to the jewel too! You'd think you'd consider that more dangerous since, you know, Naraku tried to murder us all on multiple occasions."
"It's more dangerous now because more and more are attempting to be the next Naraku! Psychopaths are coming out of the fucking woodwork to kill whoever they need to in order to gain as much power as possible in case another jewel were to forge. They don't know what they're doing, clearly, but that doesn't change what we're up against!" Inuyasha squeezed her arm between his fingers, finally bringing out a wince from Kagome, so she pulled away with an incredulous stare, immediately causing him to release his unforgiving grip.
"I stand by what I said. The more people you have on your side, the better the odds. Why doesn't that makes sense to you?"
Inuyasha could feel anger bubbling in his gut, burning the walls of his stomach as he willed the temptation to lash out down. She was stupid, so fucking stupid, for running into the middle of his and Miroku's fight after he'd deliberately told her to stay with Sango. She had good intentions, but he didn't give a damn about any of that bullshit. He gave a damn about her.
And here she was, poking the charring wood for something to do, intentionally avoiding eye contact, the bruises on her skin standing out to him as if her clothes were translucent. His dumb fucking wife got hurt in the heat of battle after he'd told her word-for-word, "Stay here. I mean it. I don't want you getting hurt."
What a surprise.
With a final growl, Inuyasha shot straight up to his feet, not even bothering to grab Tetsusaiga, which stood propped along the wall, as he marched toward the door.
"Where are you going?" Kagome asked, more confused than irritated.
"Out."
"Are you really that mad?"
"Yes, Kagome, I'm fucking pissed!" He shot, glaring back in her direction as he threw the sliding door open.
"Why is this such a big deal to you?" She stood up, following him outside, the crisp, night breeze rustling leaves in the treetops above their heads. "I used to fight at your side all the time! You used to tell me you felt stronger with me nearby! Just because we were separated for a few years doesn't mean anything's changed! I'm still-"
"Everything has changed, Kagome!" Inuyasha bellowed, stopping mid stride and turning to face her fully, not realizing how close she was actually following. Their bodies were mere inches apart, their argument leaving both of their chests heaving up and down, but her face- Oh, god, her face- had his stomach plummeting from its spot in his abdomen to the forest floor. There was no anger or resentment. It was fear. He'd startled her. Her brown eyes, shadowed by the darkened sky, were wide. Brows raised. Lips parted. Shoulders noticeably tensed.
And he hated it.
He normally loved the way his muscular frame was easily able to hide her petite body, and how she fit so perfectly into the natural curve of his own when they slept together, but suddenly it felt like he was a beast with the way he towered over her, able to consume her whole. The image of her afraid was gone as quickly as it had appeared, but her eyebrows settled and her mouth closed and she took a step back from him, and he could see it so fucking clearly. Kagome didn't understand what he was getting at. How could she? It was obvious she didn't see things the same way he did. He could only imagine, knowing her, the thoughts going through her head as she tried to figure him out. And while she was giving him an opening to elaborate on his point, he couldn't bring himself to talk anymore. It killed him that he'd caused that look to mar the beautiful features of her face, his hand naturally raising to cradle the line of her jaw as his thumb caressed a small, developing bruise at the bottom of her cheek, the wound acting as a magnet to draw his palm in, but he could still feel the underlying anger swarming through his bloodstream. He couldn't fix this right now. If he kept going, he'd say something wrong. He'd make it so much worse.
So, Inuyasha took his hand away, telling her to get inside with the gruff tone of his voice, and shot up onto the nearest tree branch, racing away to let off some steam.
Kagome turned over for the umpteenth time on her futon, bringing her blanket up to cover her head as she tried to block out the sounds of the crackling fire, the logs snapping and popping under the heat of the flames, the noises seemingly emphasized by a megaphone. The left side of her body hurt from the scratches and bruises she'd gotten from landing roughly during their battle, but that was the side that faced the door. That was the side, no matter how many times she turned over, that she found herself laying on as she waited from her grumpy hanyou to come back.
Their argument had been on repeat in her mind, his statement that everything had changed replaying like a dingy, broken record. She couldn't figure out why he was so upset. She'd been hurt so much worse than this in the past. Honestly, the bruises and scrapes just looked bad. Sure, some were a little sensitive, especially if she kept allowing her body weight to apply so much pressure to her left side, but her feet had literally been burnt in stomach acid before. So, why was this such a big deal?
He had a lot of nerve. If she hadn't have come when she did, he could have been stabbed through. This demon was large. Very large. And had quite the set of claws on his thick, dirty fingers that were flying directly at the half demon who was distracted by Miroku's crumpled form. She shot her arrow and nailed the sucker in the arm, which wasn't exactly what she was aiming for, but at least she was able to save Inuyasha. Sure, it'd been a while since Kagome had been up against any sort of enemy other than the target hung on a tree outside of Kaede's hut, and she was undeniably rusty, but how else was she supposed to get reacquainted with fighting off demons?
Everything has changed, Kagome!
What the hell was that supposed to mean?
She readjusted her position once more, settling on her back and throwing her arm above her head as she huffed in irritation, her forearm landing rough enough to tug at the long, dark strands of hair that were sprawled messily over her pillow. The wooden ceiling glowed of soft orange, red, and yellow hues, shadows dancing along to the beat of the popping logs in the pit.
Yes, their relationship had changed. Substantially. They no longer were on a quest for anything pertaining to Naraku or the jewel. That's a change. She lived in the Feudal Era now. Another change. Kagome couldn't quite bring herself to say everything had changed, though. So what in the world could he have been getting at?
There was this strangling thought in the back of her mind, one that had come up the moment he'd shouted his belief, one that brought a dull ache to her chest. With how mad he was, how badly he seemed to not want her in battle with him, it was like Inuyasha didn't want Kagome as his fighting partner anymore. She used to be the person he trusted most, the person who helped him overcome, but apparently three years has shifted everything. Right. Everything.
No.
No, no no.
She was overthinking and allowing these thoughts to make her overly sensitive.
Stop it, Kagome! Pull yourself together!
Slowly, she peeled herself off the futon, giving up on sleep for the time being while she adjusted her parted night robe over her chest and pushed the blankets from her legs, rising to pace the room just as she had done for a good forty-five minutes after he'd first left. Something Kagome could easily point out that hadn't changed, and probably never would, was that she absolutely hated when he stormed off like this. She respected that he needed space when he was angry, but time was simple to lose track of when it was based on the sun's position and they were in the dead of night.
Letting out a deep sigh, Kagome headed toward the door, opening it just enough to see the dense darkness of the surrounding woods. She wasn't great at picking up demonic energy, it was something she'd really have to hone in on in future training sessions with Kaede and Miroku, but that didn't stop her from trying. She was familiar with Inuyasha and the aura he put out. To her, it was masculine, smooth, and soothing. It washed over her like gentle tides of a calm sea, eroding the rough edges she'd developed over the years to become a soft, glistening rock of his ocean. Apparently, he had to be close enough for her to sense it. With how still and silent and unappealing the immediate world outside seemed, Inuyasha was obviously nowhere around.
With a little more aggression than intended, Kagome slammed the wooden slab shut, blocking out the forest grounds that she couldn't see anyway and slumped down next to the fire pit. The flames were dying, but instead of grabbing a new log to feed them, she used her stick to prod the charred wood, forcing pieces to fall apart, allowing the fire to find new territory to claim. She forced herself to watch the bouncing embers, ignoring the door, ignoring her thoughts, pulling her knees to her chest for as much added comfort she could provide herself.
When she'd ran out to help Miroku and Inuyasha, she hadn't done it to upset him. She wasn't doing it solely to defy the half demon. She'd only wanted to help. She'd wanted to make sure he was safe, just as he would have done for her without a second thought.
So, why was that so bad?
Slow footsteps approached the hut, alerting her at the crack of the drying leaves on the dirt, and Kagome's head shot up, waiting for the door to open. She heard a heavy sigh, one released from a clenched throat, just outside of the wooden beams before it steadily slid open with the intention of silence. His golden eyes, meshing with the glowing hues of the fire, collided with hers, his brows pinching together in question before relaxing. He stepped through the threshold, closing the door behind him.
It took a great deal of effort for Kagome to stay put. She wanted to apologize for making him so angry, but what had she done? She wanted to ask what caused him to storm off in the first place, but what if that instigated the continuation of their argument? So she remained seated, allowing her legs to fold to the side, unable to take her eyes from him as she waited for something to happen.
"Why aren't you in bed?" He asked, not moving from his place at the door.
"I couldn't sleep."
He gave a slight nod, his chest rising from beneath his firerat as he slowly sucked in an inhale, his ember eyes shifting to the floor, and then the far wall.
"I'm- uh... I'm sorry. About earlier. I shouldn't have yelled at you."
"So why did you?" Kagome asked, unable to bite back the slight confrontational tone she held. So much for not wanting to argue anymore. He looked back at her, pressing his lips in a tight line as she continued. "What's so different from before that got you all worked up?"
"Everything." He breathed, moving toward her, not willing to fight the urge that pulled him to Kagome's side. "You don't get it, do you? You don't get what's at stake here."
As he sat down beside her, terrible, horrible, unforgiving inches separating them, she felt that aura she'd been missing. Felt it warm her blood and send tingles over her skin as it radiated from his being and engulfed her. Kagome couldn't even bring herself to ask what he meant, hoping he'd fill in the gaps that he, himself, had opened, as the sensation of his spirit puddled in her chest, temporarily quelling the uncertainty that had built up over the hours. How did he do it? How did he have such an effect on her?
"Kagome," Inuyasha scooted a little closer, his knee brushing the hand she braced on the floor. "You can't just go back to your time when you're wounded or exhausted anymore. You don't have your world's powerful medicine and bandages to rely on. You can’t afford to get hurt- especially now more than ever."
"We have herbs." She replied, coming out of her reverie. "Just because they aren't already ground up and processed in a tube, doesn't mean they won't work just as well. That doesn't explain why you got so mad, though."
"I got mad because none of this should've happened in the first place."
"Sometimes people fall down, it's not that big of a deal."
"You didn't fall, Kagome, you were backhanded across the field! If you had just listened to me, you would have been fine!"
"I am fine. I don't have any broken bones, or cuts, and I'm-"
"Shut up." Inuyasha drawled, rolling his eyes and crossing his arms over his chest. "Consider yourself lucky."
"Okay, I'm lucky. Are you happy?" Kagome rolled her eyes, mimicking his body language by crossing her own arms.
"Next time, when I tell you to stay behind, I expect you to listen to me." He ordered.
"No! I'm not about to just wait for you to get back while you're off protecting the village when I can help! You never had a problem with that before! In fact, you used to hate when I went home!"
"That was different!"
"Because I was your jewel shard detector?" She challenged.
"What? No! You know that's not what I thought of you!"
"Then explain, because something isn't clicking here! I used to fight demons with you guys in a freaking skirt, and there was never an issue then!"
"You're missing the entire point! Things are different now!"
"You keep saying that, but it hasn't made any sense yet! I can still fight! I can still help! I didn't just come back for a domestic lifestyle; I knew what I was getting into when I crossed through the well that final time!"
"This was the first demon attack since you've been back, and you were injured! You don't see how much that-"
"I can take it!"
"Kagome-"
"No, listen to me! I'm strong! I'm really strong, and I shouldn't have to convince you of this! My spiritual powers have only grown since I've started my training as a priestess, and I want to help!"
"No!"
"Inuyasha!"
"No!"
"Why not!?"
"Because I can't lose you, Kagome!"
Any rebuttal she'd been prepared with vanished completely, her heart giving a painful thud behind her ribcage. His expression was fierce, his lips peeled back in a partial snarl, eyebrows furrowed together, twitching from how fervently the scowl pressed his features. His eyes were a brutal color, like the fire in the pit beside them burned in his irises and illuminated the room.
"Why are you so stupid? Why aren't you fucking getting this?" Inuyasha slammed his fist against the wood they sat on, using the force to push himself to his feet as he walked to the other side of the room, facing the shadowed wall, taking a few, unsteady breaths to gather his wits. He heard the gentle rustling of the night robe she wore as she rose, the airy hitch from her lungs, felt her eyes on him as she waited in his silence. Finally, he turned back to her, feeling the deadly twist of his face, but he didn't care. As long as his point got across, he didn't give a damn about how he looked. "I've lost you once already! I've experienced that pain, and it's nothing compared to anything I've ever felt before! No matter how many times I checked to see if it had opened, there was still a part of me that thought I'd never get to see you again, but I was willing to accept that because at least you were alive and safe on the other side of that goddamn well!"
He stomped back over to Kagome, grabbing her by the outer edges of her shoulders, feeling a rampant, wild, bubbling heat course through his veins, intensifying the way he suddenly wanted to pull her into his chest and never let go, solidifying his adamant refusal to ever allow her to do anything that could jeopardize her safety again. He swore to protect her years ago, and nothing would ever change that promise, but he needed her to cooperate. He needed her to stop being so frustratingly hard-headed and understand what he was trying to tell her. Kagome didn't tense at all, her brown eyes glistening with concern, a slight flush in her cheeks that he was willing to blame on the diminishing fire, dark shadows forming in the curve just above her cheekbones.
"Face it, you made the worst decision of your life by coming back! It's not safe here! I wasn't worth your well-being; nothing will ever be worth that!"
Kagome opened her mouth to speak, to dispute, but he cut her off with a thick, reverberating growl, his fingers twitching as he controlled his instinct to grip her tighter. "I know I wanted you back, but I was being a selfish fool! I know they're only scratches and bruises this time, but what if something worse were to happen? What if you're attacked while I'm away? What if I can't get to you in time? What if-" Inuyasha's argument faltered as he imagined unspeakable things, his voice fading in and out as he tried to continue, repeating what if multiple times before he gave up with a shake of his head, his chest clenching agonizingly as the thoughts flooded every corner of his mind. Her eyes were watering and her lips were turned down, her chin giving a minute quiver that was causing him to feel even weaker. "Kagome, I can't- I can't..."
"Stop." She quietly pleaded.
Inuyasha's hands moved up to cradle her jaw, her skin emanating the warmth she'd soaked in from sitting so close to the pit. "You don't understand how fucking scared I am of losing you. I can't do it. Not again."
"Stop. Please, stop." Tears seared her cheeks as they glided down, pooling where his flesh met hers, irritating her eyes as she continuously tried blinking them away, but she couldn't. They wouldn't stop. Not for a single second did she imagine this was what Inuyasha hid beneath his thick skin. It was obvious the separation was difficult on the both of them, but they'd never gone into detail about it. It was basically a taboo topic everyone knew to avoid. Invisible wounds were left behind, some healed, some scarred, some still scabbing, but she never realized how deep Inuyasha's ran. It was naive of her to think everything was perfectly fine now that they were together again. He's lost people he loved before. That's not the sort of thing that gets easier each time it happens.
Kagome watched the sincerity, the fear, flicker in the hanyou's eyes, molting with so much emotion she could hardly take it. Like a magnet drawing her in, with the pressing need to help any ailing thoughts fade away, she pushed upward on her toes to close the scant distance between them, gently pressing her lips to his, feeling the heat of the heavy, relieving sigh he exhaled from his nose against her cheek. She pulled back prematurely, still absorbing the effects of his energy colliding with hers, feeling him inch forward so that their foreheads pressed together, his hands trailing down to find her waist, tugging her a little closer.
"I'm so sorry. I never meant to make you worry." She said, her hands curving around the sides of Inuyasha's neck, just below his jawline, fingertips threading into the silver hair at his nape. Her voice was soft and smooth, barely rising above a whisper. "You can't think like that, though. It’s poisonous. You have to believe that we'll be fine, Inuyasha, because we will be. I will never regret my decision to return. The danger of this world was hardly something to worry about when faced with the choice of living a life without you. Don't forget, I lost you too. I know what that pain feels like just as well as you do.”
Inuyasha gripped the cloth of the robe at her sides, the heat of her breath washing over his face and eliminating his train of thought.
"I'm not a delicate girl that needs to be looked after, but if worst comes to worst, I trust you with my life. You know that. I'm not afraid. Not with you here. I fought by your side for so long, protected you, and that's what I plan to continue doing. No matter how roughed up I get. You're just gonna have to get over it." Kagome dragged her hands down the skin of his neck and over his chest, wrapping her fingers in the thick material at the front of Inuyasha's suikan, their mouths moving closer, hovering but never touching.
"I don't like it, Kagome. I won't lose you again." There was a hint of a growl at the edge of his low voice.
"You won't."
"You're so fucking stubborn." His lips teased hers, grazing but not settling.
"You'll get over that, too."
He kissed her, slowly, softly, their lips molding so perfectly to each other's. It started a fire in his chest, one that burned brighter than the pitiful embers they sat next to, and he allowed it to take over, to transform his kiss into something more fervent, more passionate, more powerful, allowed it to sustain the warmth in their little hut away from the village, and ignite the dark thoughts he once had so that they charred into nothing, like kindling. It was easy, so goddamn easy, to forget whatever was happening around them when they touched each other, hands gliding over clothes and skin to feel, to explore, to wander aimlessly until they found an intention. He was lost in her as quickly as his infamous temper swelled on an average day.
The whimper she gave him was tiny, only detectable by ears as sensitive as his, her cheeks still wet and warm. The sound was enough to send a violent flurry through his abdomen and chest, one that he needed to quell, so he pushed her back, using his hand as his guide until he felt the wall beneath his palm, carefully pinning her between his body and the wooden borders of their home.
Inuyasha wasn't good with words. They either didn't work for him, or came out furiously. He was either emotionally stifled, or would say things horribly wrong in a release of his pent up frustration. He was better with his actions. That's how he spoke to Kagome. That's how he'd managed to relay months ago how much he'd missed her, his gratitude, and how deeply invested he still was. He still had so much to say right now, the need for her to understand how he felt growing stronger and stronger with each passing second.
He was so unfathomably glad Kagome comprehended the language he spoke. They had a bond. One that had proven to be unbreakable time and time again, and as he proceeded to crush his mouth to hers, halting their breathing, feeling her cheeks dampened with fresh tears against the tip of his nose, Inuyasha knew his message had been received loud and clear.
He loved her. So goddamn much.
He wouldn't have been so upset, so scared, if he didn't.
There was a brief moment where things began to calm, the air no longer seeming to swirl around the room along with their melodic energies, their kiss breaking as they sucked in a slow drag of breath. Inuyasha could feel Kagome's heart beating erratically against his chest, staring up at him with her big eyes, the beautiful color lost in the darkness of the room but still holding the same effect on him. It took all the strength he had not to crumble to his knees, sensing exactly how she felt through the simple graze of her palm against his cheek.
And all over again, Inuyasha was winded.
How did she do this to him? How had she managed to color his world in the most vibrant hues, making it possible to see exactly what he was faced with without an inkling of light seeping through?
"Kagome, I..."
"I know."
He kissed her again, and again, and again. Over and over. Pulling her into him as he pushed her into the wall, his hands running over her sides, arms, shoulders, neck, and resting at the crook of her jaw. He didn't understand what had come over him, why he suddenly needed Kagome more than air, but there was no chance of fighting it. Not with her fingers gripping his clothes and her teeth teasing his bottom lip. Not with her pushing him to step back but making sure to hold on for dear life, preventing any lost contact, guiding him, walking backward, stumbling slightly over her own feet until they reached the padding of their bed.
"The fire."
"Leave it." Kagome breathed, hating that he broke away.
"It's dying." He chuckled, hovering over her lips as she desperately tried to reach for them. He silenced the small mewl she gave with a simple kiss, leading her down to her knees.
"Let it die."
"It'll be pitch black in here. You don't like that dark."
"I'm with you." She kissed his jaw. "I know I'm safe.”
Kagome’s fingers trailed down over his clothing, stopping at the knot that secured his robes shut. She only fumbled slightly, using her nails to pull the tie loose, and pushing the red robe from his shoulders. Inuyasha moved to help her, removing his kosode quicker than she would have been able to, his scorching skin now beneath her fingertips. She wanted to touch every inch of him, wanted to reacquaint herself with the way his muscles twitched beneath her touch, and the way his breath seemed to hitch whenever her nails gently flicked over old scars that never faded, feeling as if, no matter how many times she studied him, watched him, caressed him, kissed him, it was never enough. Kagome wanted to memorize Inuyasha. She wanted to feel his thudding heartbeat when they were pressed against each other and the way his chest rose and fell when he needed to slow down for just a second, she wanted to hear his uncontrolled grunts and the breathy way he said her name, but most importantly, Kagome wanted to watch the way he let go of his worries and fears and allowed himself to forget the unforgiving world around him for just a small moment of passion and peace in her arms.
It was impossible to see him, using her hands and lips to guide her, trailing small kisses up his sternum until she arrived at the curve of his collar bone. No matter how many times she’d flicked her tongue over this spot in the recent months, it never failed to make his stomach tense or bring his fingers to grip her where ever he could. And so he did. His nails scraped along the fabric of her robe, controlled, never harming her, the sound sending a thrill to the apex of her thighs.
She reached his chin, bringing Inuyasha to tilt it downward so she could easily find his lips, not the least bit surprised when she kissed him with a feverish, desperate need because he felt the same way. How could he not? Any separation from her was anxiety inducing. It didn’t matter that she was just pressed against him, touching his chest and arms, licking and nibbling at the base of his neck and in the dip of his clavicle. The second she pulled away, he was terrified, and the second she was against him again, he was satiated.
As she kissed him, dancing her lips over his quicker and harder, he found the flimsy knot that barely held her robe shut anymore, undoing it as she wriggled her shoulders and arms to allow it to fall off of her. Finally, her flesh was against his, and he wondered if it was at all possible to be so wholly intoxicated by the experience of Kagome, alone. Was he the luckiest man alive to be able to claim her as his? To be able to mark her, move inside, and make her keen? Did he actually deserve her? She’d say yes. She’d tell him he was stupid for questioning that in the first place. He could practically hear the words coming from her mouth, so powerfully and sincere.
Kagome’s fingers gently swiped at the base of his abdomen, just above his pant line, tickling the exposed skin and bringing a barely-audible grunt from his throat. He knew what she wanted, but he wasn’t done. He hadn’t finished telling her everything he needed to say. Slowly, softly, Inuyasha skimmed the backs of his knuckles from her ribcage to her hips, wrapping his arm around the small of her back for support as he laid her down, pressing himself between her legs. She sighed, accepting his body weight, biting her lip as he rolled his hips against hers, and he thanked whatever god was out there that he had heightened senses and could see through the darkness, because fuck, he absolutely loved the way she reacted to him.
Without haste, Inuyasha kissed down her neck, not stopping at any point to pay attention to tender spots, gliding his tongue over the nipple of one breast and making a mental note that he’d pay the same favor to the other later, kissing and licking his way down the center of her tummy, over the cloth of her panties, and down the inside of one of her thighs. He’d planned to keep going, but the whimper she gave as he nibbled at the thick flesh was too painful to ignore, and there was no way he could go on without hearing it again. Slowing his pace, he moved up her thigh, closer to her core where the skin was a little more sensitive, grazing his lips and sighing out, feeling the way she shuddered beneath his breath. Then, he incorporated his tongue, gliding it over the smoothness of her inner thigh, closing his mouth on the spot and giving a gentle suck. Kagome’s entire body reacted, back arching, legs tensing, her hands flying to the crown of his head, fumbling as she tried not to grip his hair.
He was achingly hard, and the more her breathing became unsteady, the more he found himself pushing away the thought to take her right then and there. Careful of his claws, Inuyasha pulled her underwear down her legs, Kagome lifting her hips and calves to make the job easier. She was bare now, no longer shying from his eyes as she did the first few times they were together, completely comfortable and so fucking beautiful. The fire burning within him became more powerful, more pressing, the blood flowing through his veins pumping faster, and he pressed himself against her once more, feeling her arch her back to mold completely against him, her arms wrapping around his neck as he kissed her hard.
It was difficult not to match her mewls with his own, letting her know just how easily she undid him. It was wonderful that no matter how many times their lips met, no matter how many times their mouths moved in total synchronicity, their tongues incorporated in smooth movements, they still kissed with so much fervent need you’d think they’d just barely been reunited from their three year gap. Inuyasha would always fear losing her again, but that’s something he could live with. He would always fear something bad happening, but that just proved how much he loved her. That would never stop. Those feelings, all of them, would never die. So long as he had her at the end of the day, the burdening emotions he struggled with would be easy to bear.
“I will always protect you, Kagome. Do you hear me?” The hanyou growled, feeling breathless in his words.
She felt the vibration through his chest, the honesty in the heat of his skin, the skip of her own heart as she allowed the promise to sink in.
“I feel safer in your arms than I ever did in my own world,” She admitted.
Inuyasha supported himself with an elbow next to her head, his other hand going between them to untie the knot supporting his hakama.
“And I want to keep you safe too, Inuyasha.”
It was entirely impossible not to grunt as his erection was finally set free, pushing his pants down as far as he could without removing himself from Kagome’s hold. Using his knuckle, he tested how wet she was, spreading the juices through her folds, going back for more, and then lightly rubbing over her clit, observing the way her mouth opened but didn’t make a sound, and how her chest rose with the inhalation but had yet to fall. Steadily, Inuyasha guided his cock inside of her, completely engulfed in the molting heat she emitted that brought out this husky, deep-rooted groan he didn’t have the chance to bite back. As he settled, allowing both of them to adjust, she finally exhaled, the whine she released so utterly satisfying it almost ended things then and there.
“I am safe,” He slid out, and then slowly back in. “You. Here. It’s all I need.”
Kagome arched her back, taking him in, her thighs tensing against his hips, the friction he provided as his pace began to increase so wholly amazing. She gripped the pillow above her head, never actually fully making it all the way up their futon when they’d began, biting her lip as Inuyasha provided a tantalizing roll of his pelvis and grazed her clit. She could already feel the tingling sensations rising, intensifying, her light moans turning into whining as her muscles began to tremble around his cock.
Inuyasha was whispering in her ear, thrusting harder, pushing her bangs from her face as he planted tiny kisses to her temple. She was trying to roll her pelvis, meet his grinds, suddenly so desperate for release, wanting to beg him not to stop but her voice wouldn’t work with her. She was on the ledge, so close it was antagonizing her entire body, and then he ordered her to come for him in that husky voice she never got to hear enough, forcing her to succumb to the magnificent embrace of her orgasm.
“Give me the pillow.” He said, hardly allowing her a moment to recover, rising up to his knees and holding his hand out. Kagome threw it up for him to catch, lifting her hips when he tapped her side, and settling back down when he was done adjusting the pillow under her butt. Swiftly, he glided back inside of her, reaching deeper than before, and she moaned all too satisfyingly. He loved making her do that. He loved when she made any sound, really, but mostly when it was of this sort. The one where she could hardly keep it together. Where it was obvious she wanted more. Where her hands flew to any part of him, and her nails bit into his skin, and she still tried to stifle it all by biting her bottom lip but it hardly did her any favors.
Inuyasha propped himself on his hands, his long hair flowing over one of his shoulders and to the padding beneath them, bucking his hips in a smooth rhythm. Kagome was touching him however she could, fumbling over his rigid muscles, grasping down on the curve of his hips where she could feel him thrust, occasionally slowing to a teasing grind, gently shushing her as her breathing picked up. Even in the black of night, she could see the grin on his face as he watched her body respond to his. He knew exactly what effect he was having on her.
The half demon bent down, never halting his pace as he licked the curve of Kagome’s neck, feeling the pebbled flesh rise beneath his tongue when she opened up, welcoming his ministrations. He wanted to feel her come again, hear those agonizingly tortured whimpers, and he’d do whatever he needed to do to get his way. Knowing he was pleasing her was all he required in order to be completely satisfied.
Kagome pushed at his shoulder, indicating she wanted him to roll over, but he shook his head. She tried again, pushing up with her hips, bringing a grunt loose from his chest as he managed to go even deeper for a split second, shuddering as she whispered a broken please into his sensitive ear, and he finally complied, wrapping his arm around the small of her back to bring her with him, never breaking their connection. She sank on top of him, adjusting her thighs over his hips as she continued the motion he’d began, only slowing for a quick moment as he pushed and kicked his pants from his legs, finally free from the semi-confining clothing. His hands immediately found her breasts, massaging and kneading, tenderly flicking a claw over her hardened nipples. Even though he was beneath her now, he still exerted control. Inuyasha swayed her pace by either clutching her hips or bucking upward. He decided if he wanted her sitting upright or bent forward so he could lick and suck and tease her breasts, switching between the two to make sure they got equal amounts of attention, taking over when she needed a small break, and then allowing her to feel in the lead when she began grinding once more.
He was getting closer. She could tell by the way his breathing changed and his stomach muscles clenched. He hardly made a sound when he was close to coming, everything so tight as she imagined the heat overwhelming his body. He was holding her waist as she sat fully up on his cock, no longer indicating whether he wanted her to roll or bounce, only watching her body as she brought him closer and closer to climax. She’d been on the brink for too long now, trying to find her release but unable to as he’d held her off, building her up inch by inch, little by little, but never enough. Inuyasha was barely in control anymore, trying to appear put together as he was crumbling to pieces, and Kagome wanted to hear him say her name.
Making sure he was watching, she reached down, parting her lips to rub her clit, the bundle of nerves so swollen and sensitive at this point, a wave of tingles climbed and splayed over every bit of her body. She couldn’t help but rub herself hard, growing greedy from the sensations as she continued to thrust, and buck, and do whatever she could to reach her orgasm. Her muscles began to tremble, clamping down on Inuyasha’s cock as she was overtaken, her thighs tensing against his hips as he uncontrollably slammed upward, squeezing her sides as he came, gifting her with a clenched, “Fuck!”
Close enough.
Kagome collapsed on top of him, catching her breath before rolling over on her right side, watching the way his chest rose and fell, and the way his long eyelashes fluttered as he opened his eyes. He looked over, propping himself on his side to face her as he recovered, kissing the scrape on her left shoulder that he’d once growled at. He sat up some more, kissing the bruise on her arm, then gently pushed it aside so he could kiss the large, speckled mark below her ribs.
“Did I hurt you when I grabbed onto it?”
“Not at all.” Kagome smiled, sighing contentedly as he continued to press multiple, pleasant kisses against the marks on her body. As he brushed his lips along the little one on her cheek, she turned slightly, meeting his mouth, hoping to speak his own language as fluently as she could and express just how much she valued his affection.
She would talk to him all night and well into the morning if she could, but as he tugged the blankets over them and pulled her in close, Kagome could feel the fatigue dragging her under. He swept his lips over hers once more, slowly, lulling out the motion in a hazy effect, whispering words she’d never heard before but always knew. And surprisingly, she felt Inuyasha’s body sink into a peaceful sleep before she even had the chance to respond.

"One is mind controlled and forced to fight the other, the other refusing to harm them and getting seriously injured as consequence" for inukag?? I Love your fics! :D
Final Angst prompt! After this, I’ll take a short break from taking requests to (hopefully) finally write the next chapter of TMTB (every time I say I’ll do something I end up not doing it but this time I actually know where I’m going where the chapter so, I mean, there’s hope), and then I’ll reblog some fluff prompts!
I had a bit of a harder time coming up with a plot for this one since stuff like that did happen in the manga, until I had this idea, so I hope you’ll all enjoy some post-canon angst :)

“Don’t think I can’t find you, half-breed!”
Inuyasha grimaced at Kagome’s words. She’d probably been the one and only person in his life who had never used his nature against him, something he couldn’t be more grateful for. Hearing her voice saying the insult he’d heard over and over again, even if he knew she wasn’t really the one saying it, stung more than he’d expected.
“If you won’t show yourself, I’ll take care of it.”
He swallowed hard. This hadn’t been supposed to happen. It was just a routine mission, and for once, they had gone together. It wasn’t the way they usually teamed up; outside of the village, they tended to go for Kagome with Sango and Inuyasha with Miroku.
They hadn’t expected to meet a dark priestess, of course, and just like Tsubaki had done over five years ago, the bitch somehow had managed to take control of Kagome. Only Kagome was now a trained priestess, which Inuyasha assumed could only mean their enemy was that much more powerful.
Glancing around the tree behind which he was hiding, he only managed to jump out of the way before an arrow hit it. Despite that, he groaned in pain at the aura radiating from it.
A light, insane laugh escaped Kagome’s lips.
“She’s strong, isn’t she? A shame no one trained her against mind control, but I guess she’ll come in handy once I’m done with you.”
Yeah, actually. Since when could Kagome’s arrows do that? He’d been around during her training, and it was nothing like now. Right now, she was radiating power, so much it almost hurt to look at her and he could practically feel it prickling against his skin. She’d never been that strong.
Unless, of course, she had always been restraining herself.
He darted between the trees, but unexpectedly hit a barrier that sent him flying back in the middle of the clearing where the bitch in Kagome’s body was waiting, mildly amused.
“You could probably kill me,” she commented offhandedly, and his heart skipped a beat at the simple thought of Kagome suggesting that, even if it technically wasn’t her right now. “You only have one shot, of course, but it ends with either one of us. I’m sure you know that.”
He growled threateningly, but she was right. Tetsusaiga was pulsing at his hip, practically begging to be used, but he simply couldn’t. He couldn’t destroy the barrier and leave Kagome behind, and he definitely couldn’t attack her. Just imagining it made him sick to his stomach.
Maybe he could incapacitate her temporarily. He didn’t want to have to do it, but if he was really careful, maybe—
He dove forward, refusing to think too much about it, as he knew the guilt would stop him from doing anything. She didn’t even move, but right when he was about to hit — he’d aimed for the head with the minimal amount of strength —, her power flared around her, and once again, he was sent back. Only this time, his entire body felt like it was burning. He’d been purified before, but this? This had been done to cause pain. And it was working way too well.
“Or maybe you’re too pathetic to do even that,” Kagome’s voice said. “You’re not going to use that sword of yours? Please, don’t tell me you don’t want to hurt her. A monster like you with someone of her caliber… That wouldn’t be just pathetic. It’d be ridiculous.”
He knew Kagome didn’t feel like that. Knew it. But somewhere, deep down, maybe he’d always feared that one day, she would feel that way too. Like practically everyone else did.
He managed to get up, grimacing, only to be met with her aiming an arrow at him. She shot before he could dodge, particularly in his state, and he let out a scream of pain when it opened a large wound on his shoulder by simply brushing against it.
“That’s the nice thing about strong priestesses,” she commented with an arrogant smile that had nothing to do on his Kagome’s lips. “They have that type of arrows, sure, but…” In one second, she’d fluidly taken aim and shot again, hitting him between two ribs, sending him screaming again. “There are the classical ones, too. Except of course, with someone as powerful, it’s like they were dipped in it. It must already be purifying you from the inside, isn’t it?”
That didn’t matter too much, Inuyasha tried to tell himself, but there actually was a problem. He could feel himself not healing.
This couldn’t be it. He couldn’t die here. He couldn’t let Kagome kill him — he knew she would never forgive herself.
But when she aimed and shot again, this time pinning his hand to the ground, he realized that there was nothing he could do.
Kagome screamed when she freed himself. Loud, clear, her voice finally echoing around her after being deprived from it for what she could only estimate to an hour, maybe less. She’d been able to follow the mind rope all the way to dark priestess, and there, even though they were technically in her territory, she hadn’t stood a chance.
She understood her mistake when she opened her eyes and they fell on Inuyasha. Her second scream was one of horror before she ran to him, ripping the arrows out of his body and trying to stop the bleeding.
He managed to open one eye to look at her.
“’gome,” he mumbled. “Are you okay?”
“Inuyasha,” she sobbed. “Yes. Yes, I’m fine. Did I— Oh God, I—”
“Don’t worry,” he said, trying to smile and failing miserably. “’m glad you’re back. Missed ya.”
Then his eyes closed, and his head fell back.
“Inuyasha? Inuyasha!”
She shook him desperately, but he didn’t respond. After a few moments lost in panicking, she pressed her head to his chest, and was relieved to hear it was still beating. He was just exhausted from the blood loss and the pain — caused by her own powers. It disgusted her to no end to know that they had been used that way, but she would fix this.
She swore to herself she would fix this.
And if it meant that she couldn’t ever use her powers around him again, no matter how hard she’d worked to get there, no matter what else they could do, then so it would be.

Relief. Fear. Joy. Elation. Unease. More fear. More joy.
Kagome watched all of these emotions and more play across Inuyasha's face in response to her words. Finally, she had to ask him. "Inuyasha? Are you okay with this?"
"Am I okay with this? Wench, you just–" Inuyasha closed his eyes, shaking his head, trying to steady himself. He couldn't believe she was even asking him that question.
"In less than a day I went from being alone and pissed at the world to not just having you back, but you agreeing to be my mate and then fucking changing yourself so you can stay with me forever?! And you're asking me if I'm okay with this?"
It was too much. Inuyasha gathered Kagome up off the futon, pulling her into his lap. He folded his arms around her – not even remotely caring whether or not the move scandalized Kaede – before mumbling into her hair, "It's too good to be true, ya know? Like there's gotta be a catch."
Kaede chided him at that. "Inuyasha, do not wish ill tidings upon yourself. Do ye not think that 50 years of betrayal and battle have earned ye this miracle?"
Kagome turned slightly in Inuyasha's embrace to look at the older woman, "Kaede-obaasama, I couldn't have said it better myself."
She turned back to him, "Inuyasha, I have no idea what's going on with me or these powers. I don't know why the well opened up when it did or why it suddenly let me back through after all these years. Something tells me there may be more going on here than we know, but I don't even care. I'm just gonna be grateful for the blessings we've been given."
She gave him a blindingly bright smile before continuing. "I'm gonna marry the heck out of you, Inuyasha, and thank the Kami for it every single day for the rest of our lives together."
Inuyasha couldn't help the smile that spread across his face at her words. "You're right, wench, you're right. Whatever happens, we'll figure it out together."
"We always do," she smirked.
Kaede cleared her throat, aware that the two young lovebirds had likely forgotten about her presence in the room. They both blushed when they turned to her.
"Yes, well, as exciting as this day has been, I think it is time for it to end, don't ye? I for one would like to retire to the comfort of my bed sometime before the cock crows."
Inuyasha and Kagome looked sheepishly at each other before looking at Kaede, but the old woman already knew what they were thinking. "Inuyasha, I'll expect ye will wish to stay here where ye can keep an eye on Kagome, yes? That is understandable."
Inuyasha blushed even deeper. "Keh, I'll just sit over there by the wall and keep an eye on things. It's not like I need sleep the way humans do."
Kagome shook her head and smiled at his gruff attempt to hide his embarrassment. Heaven forbid he be called out for having feelings or anything.
"Well, this human definitely still needs sleep. Thank you again, Kaede-sama, for allowing me to stay here."
"Of course, child, of course. I left a sleeping kosode for ye just over there on top of that chest. Goodnight to ye."
Kaede rose stiffly and walked to the side of the hut where her futon was hidden behind a privacy screen.
"Here," Inuyasha murmured, shifting Kagome off his lap and back onto the futon before moving to retrieve the garment that Kaede had pointed out to them.
"Thanks."
Inuyasha stood and walked over to the wall nearest Kagome. He pulled Tetsusaiga from his sash before sitting himself cross-legged, sword propped upon his shoulder.
Kagome smiled at the sight. 'Some things never change,' she thought.
She looked down at the sleeping kosode in her hand, then around the small hut. There wasn't anywhere private to change since Kaede had already gone to bed behind the only privacy screen in the hut.
She looked over to Inuyasha who was still watching her from where he now sat.
'I wonder what he'd do if…' She smirked a little before lifting her hand to the button that held her pink cardigan closed. She released it, shrugging the garment off before folding it to place beside her on the futon.
Surreptitiously, Kagome glanced at Inuyasha. He had cocked a brow, but nothing more.
Raising up on her knees then, she reached for the zipper on the side of her skirt.
"Kagome, what–" Inuyasha hissed in a loud whisper before a finger to her lips and a slow shake of her head cut off his words.
Slowly, she undid the zipper that kept the skirt in place, allowing it to fall and pool at her knees. Then she lowered back down to the mattress, shifting her legs to the side so that she could slowly slip the skirt down her legs and over her feet.
Inuyasha's throat was dry. He was sure his eyes were popping out of his head, but he couldn't look away.
Once her skirt was off, Kagome slowly folded it as well, setting it on top of her cardigan. Next, she pulled her legs up, bending her knees to remove her socks one at a time.
From that angle, Inuyasha could just make out the small scrap of pink fabric covering her womanhood. A teeny whimper escaped him before he could stop it.
Again, Kagome looked up at him. She blushed slightly but put the finger back to her lips, shaking her head "no" again.
All Inuyasha could do was gulp and clear his throat. His eyes seemed incapable of looking away.
Kagome noticed. 'So he likes what he sees,' she thought. Smirking down at her lap slightly before schooling her features.
Slowly, she raised herself up on her knees again, giving Inuyasha an unhindered view of her panties. They were pink, Inuyasha noticed, but there was a pattern on them as well. Small hearts in a lighter pink scattered across the surface with a tiny bow that sat just below her navel.
For a moment he wondered what sort of pervert had invented such a provocative garment, but that's when Kagome reached for the hem of her camisole, lifting the fabric up over her head before letting it fall on the futon beside her.
Inuyasha thought he had died. 'This is it. This proves it. I've died and this whole day has been a dream because there's no way that this could be real.'
If he'd thought those panties were provocative, the matching… whatever it was covering her breasts… made his head spin. It was made of the same pink-patterned fabric, only the bow on this one was nestled between the curve of her breasts.
This had seemed like a good idea at the time, but now that Kagome was mostly naked in front of Inuyasha she suddenly found herself intensely nervous. She plucked up a smile and finally made herself looked up at him… and promptly stopped breathing. The blatant hunger she found etched across his face made thoughts, breathing – almost anything other than starting back at him at that moment – impossible.
'Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine.' The word slammed around inside of Inuyasha's head. His grip on Tetsusaiga tightened as he willed himself to calm down.
They stared at each other for another long, heated moment before Kagome finally took a deep shuddering breath in. She looked away, reaching for the sleeping kosode, pulling it up over her shoulders. She tied the obi tight before picking up her camisole and folding that as well, adding it to the pile of clothing she'd already made.
Without another word, she lay back down, facing away from Inuyasha. She smiled to herself, though still not quite ready to look at him again after that.
Instead, she whispered quietly, in a voice she knew he'd be able to hear. "Goodnight, Inuyasha."
"Goodnight, Kagome," came the slightly strained reply.
And not for the first time in his life, Inuyasha was thankful he wasn't a human that needed a lot of sleep… because there was no way he'd be able to sleep after that.
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Inuyasha was alerted to the fact that it was morning by the scampering footsteps of a certain kitsune approaching.
He'd been in a light doze but immediately stood and exited the hut to waylay Shippō before he could wake the two women.
"Oi, Shippō, you can't go in there."
"Morning, Inuyasha! Why not?"
"Because Kaede and Kagome are still sleeping, that's why. We had a late night."
"You did?" Shippō gave Inuyasha a distrustful look. "You sure you're not trying to keep Kagome away from me? Because I'm warning you, Inuyasha, she's not gonna like it if she finds out. You know she likes me better than you!"
"Keh, I highly doubt that." Inuyasha blushed at the memory of Kagome in her undergarments.
"What is that look for, my fine friend?" Miroku was approaching down the road from the direction of his home, Rin walking beside him. He'd been tasked by his wife to walk the young ones home and to check on how Kagome had fared her first night back.
"Nothin'" Inuyasha grumbled, putting on a scowl instead, hoping it would have the desired effect of getting the monk to drop his line of questioning.
"Inuyasha thinks that Kagome likes him better than she likes me. You tell him Miroku. You know it's not true. Kagome always used to let me cuddle with her in her sleeping bag at night. She never yelled at me or hit me, but she was always "sitting" you, Inuyasha. You were always mean to her and you guys were always yelling at each other! She definitely likes me best."
By the time Shippō was done his rant, Inuyasha was fuming. "Oh yeah, you lousy runt? Well, if Kagome likes you so much better than she likes me, then why did she agree to my mate last night?"
"Really?! Inuyasha-oniisama? You and Kagome-chan are getting married?!" Rin squealed in delight.
"Uh, yeah." Inuyasha flushed as red as his fire-rat but he was suddenly worried. He was pretty sure that if Kagome was going to SIT him for anything it would be sticking his foot in his mouth and announcing their plans to wed, without her.
"Congratulations, my friend, though something tells me that this was not precisely how you intended on letting us know." Miroku's eyes sparkled with humour, but he kept his benevolent monk's smile firmly in place.
Inuyasha rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment. "Uh, yeahhhhh…. About that… Can you not tell Kagome–"
"Not tell Kagome what?" Came her voice from behind him.
He turned to find Kagome dressed again in her modern clothing, standing in the doorway, arms crossed in front of her chest, an eyebrow cocked in question.
She was clearly annoyed that he was trying to keep something from her.
'Fuck.' He thought with a cringe. 'I am in such deep kuso.’

May I request a Touken Danshi interacting with another character from another anime?? Any anime!
ANON???? WHO ARE YOU??? I’M NOT MAD I’M ACTUALLY REALLY HAPPY BECAUSE I FINALLY GOT AN ASK AFTER GATHERING DUST FOR SO LONG!!!
Hmmm so a Touken Danshi interacting with another character from another anime huh…? For this I’ll go with Izuminokami for a Touken Danshi and Inuyasha from InuYasha~
Since you didn’t specify if it was to be in the form of art or a story, I’ll write a one-shot since I’m feeling like it ^-^ Especially since this week’s 69min tkrb prompt is crossover/au!!
This one-shot shall be set after Naraku’s defeat and Inuyasha is happily married to Kagome.
———————————————————————————————–
“Oi, Kunihiro! Where are you!?”
It was suppose to be a simple expedition for resources. Just get some charcoal and coolant, and they’ll be off. Nothing troublesome, right?
If only he hadn’t lost Horikawa.
One would at first assume that Izuminokami Kanesada was the one that’s lost. After all, it was always Horikawa Kunihiro that knew what he was doing. If anything, Izuminokami follows Horikawa around.
But now, Izuminokami was on his own in the forest of Feudal Japan, and so was Horikawa somewhere in the woods.
How did they get separated? Well, they were getting around just fine at first. Izuminokami was practically following Horikawa around, sticking close to his assistant to ensure that they won’t get lost in the woods. Everything was fine and good.
Up until a demon attacked.
The duo thought that they could handle the demon, no problem. But when they swung their swords they realized that this demon had an extremely thick hide that they could not pierce. The demon overpowered them rather quickly, and they had no choice but to run.
And unfortunately for them, they got lost in the process.
The demon was somewhere. Izuminokami didn’t know where, but it was somewhere. As long as it wasn’t chasing him anymore, he could care less about it. It was Horikawa that he worried more about now.
“Kunihiro!” Izuminokami called out again, voice echoing through the dark forest. Damn it, where was he? Izuminokami hoped that Horikawa didn’t encounter another demon. If he did, he sure hoped that it’s hide wasn’t as thick as the previous one he encountered.
A rustle caught his attention.
“Kunihiro?”
Izuminokami turned around. There was no response. Cautious, he drew his sword.
“Who’s there?”
A roar erupted from the closely packed trees. The ground trembled as something large approached. Izuminokami got into a stance, sword raised, ready to fight.
A demon emerged.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake.”
It was the same demon from before.
Izuminokami clicked his tongue. He assumed that his constant shouting attracted it here. Of course it did, why wouldn’t it head towards loud screaming? Izuminokami made a mental note to himself to keep his voice to himself.
If the demon killed him, he wouldn’t have to worry about that. Still, he didn’t plan to let that happen.
The demon let out a screech as it charged for Izuminokami.
“Wind Scar!”
Before his eyes, a large beam engulfed the demon. In no time, it was completely obliterated from existence.
Izuminokami was… confused. Did the demon perish just like that? What that was large beam? Who on earth had that kind of power to annihilate such a large demon? There was no flesh or bones left, not even any blood.
“Oi, you alright?”
Izuminokami jumped back into his battle stance as someone else approached. “Who’s there!?”
A man revealed himself from the shadows. Izuminokami had a good look at him. This new guy had white, long hair, but a young face and gold eyes. He was wearing a red robe with a weird beaded necklace around his neck. Were those ears on top of his head?
“Hmm, you look strange.” the man said out of the blue as he looked at Izuminokami, eyes scanning him from top to bottom.
Izuminokami scoffed. Did this guy just call him weird!? “You’re the strange-looking one!” he snapped back, pointing his sword at the man he called strange.
The man frowned. “Hey, what’s your deal? I just saved your ass from that demon back there!”
Izuminokami opened his mouth, but he had nothing to argue back with. It was true, this man did just save his life. He may have his pride, but he knew that he ought to thank this guy. “Thanks for the help,” he muttered as he sheathed his sword.
The man seemed surprised. “Huh, you seem awfully nice…” he said, “Normally people just tell me to go away.”
“You did just save me… so what’s your name?”
“Inuyasha.”
Izuminokami nodded slowly, eyes on the pair of dog ears on Inuyasha’s head. “Inu as in… dog?”
Inuyasha frowned. “What, you’re gonna mock me for being a dog?”
“No, no,” Izuminokami said quickly, “I’m just… surprised.”
“That I’m a half-demon? Yeah, everyone is always surprised when they see a half-demon.”
The way Inuyasha spoke made it sound as if he was… upset, angry. Izuminokami recalled the stories that he was told about demons. Half-demons were always looked down upon for having ‘tainted blood’, while humans reject them having demon blood in the first place. Knowing that Inuyasha was a half-demon after what he had said, Inuyasha was probably expecting Izuminokami to berate him.
But honestly, Izuminokami couldn’t care less about what Inuyasha was. “I’m just surprised because I didn’t expect to encounter demons in the first place.” Izuminokami said to clear out what he meant, “Nice to meet you, Inuyasha.”
Inuyasha looked surprised to hear Izuminokami’s words, though he did look a little bit suspicious. “… you too, I guess. What’s your name?”
“Izuminokami Kanesada.”
Inuyasha squinted. “Kanesada…”
Shit. Is he on to something?
“Are you ‘Kanesan’ by any chance?”
Izuminokami was surprised to hear his nickname. “Um… yeah…”
Inuyasha approached, getting a closer look at the uchigatana. “You do resemble that guy…” he murmured to himself. His nose twitched as he took a whiff of Izuminokami’s scent. “And you smell like that piece of cloth… Do you know some guy named Horikawa?”
Izuminokami’s eyes went wide. “Kunihiro!” He grabbed Inuyasha’s shoulders, startling the poor half-demon, “You know Kunihiro!?”
Inuyasha shoved Izuminokami back, not appreciating how close Izuminokami was. “Blue eyes, black hair, has a sword?”
“Yes!”
“Yeah, he’s at my village.”
“Take me there!”
“Okay, calm down.” Inuyasha took two steps back from Izuminokami, leaning away, “No need to invade my personal space. Follow me and I’ll take you there.”
Izuminokami let put a sigh of relief. He really hoped that Inuyasha wasn’t lying about finding Horikawa. As Inuyasha walked to where he said his village was, Izuminokami followed him like a duckling and its mother.
The first minute of the walk passed with silence. Inuyasha didn’t have much to say, but Izuminokami had a few questions. He had his eyes on the sword at Inuyasha’s hips, concerned about the worn out hilt of the sword.
“You were the one who killed the demon, right?”
Inuyasha was silent for awhile. “Yeah.”
“… You used that sword?”
“Mmhmm.”
“Can I have a look at it?”
Inuyasha turned to Izuminokami as if the Touken Danshi had asked him to hand over all his belongings. “Hey, you may be a friendly guy, but this sword ain’t leaving my side.”
Though a little disappointed, Izuminokami respected Inuyasha’s decision. “Can I at least know who made that sword?”
“This old swordsmith named Totosai.” Inuyasha replied, turning back to the path, “He made it under the request of my father, who had it forged using his own fang.”
Izuminokami stopped, confused and surprised. “Fang…?”
“My father was a full-fledged dog demon. He could transform more than 10 times the size of this forest.” Inuyasha explained. He grabbed onto the hilt of his sword. “He had my sword, Tetsusaiga, forged using his fang for the sole purpose of protecting my mother. You could say it’s a demonic sword.”
Inuyasha had stopped as well, head lowered.
“And now, I use it to protect the ones I care about.”
Wow. Izuminokami did not expect such a complicated history from a rusty looking sword. A demonic sword, eh? That’s something he could tell Sengo when he returned. He wondered how such a beaten up looking sword was able to kill the demon. Though Inuyasha said it was made from the fang of his father, he was curious as to why it was in such a sorry state.
When Inuyasha mentioned that he used Tetsusaiga to protect the ones he cared about, Izuminokami felt as if he resonated with that feeling. Like Inuyasha, Izuminokami had his own things to protect, and as a sword, he understood how it felt.
“Is it okay if I ask to see the sword?” Izuminokami asked, “Of course, you show it to me.”
Inuyasha turned around. He looked at his sword, then shrugged. “Sure thing.”
When Inuyasha had his sword drawn out from its scabbard, Izuminokami had expected to see a nicely crafted blade in spite of its hilt’s appearance.
He definitely did not expect to see it transform into a blade about two times larger than that of a normal blade.
“This is Tetsusaiga.”
Inuyasha held his sword up, proud and mighty. Izuminokami stared at the sword with wide eyes and mouth agape, in awe at the sword’s appearance. “That's… amazing…”
Inuyasha had a proud smirk on his face. “I know!” He brought Tetsusaiga down and put it back in its scabbard. “It helped me through a lot of things. I guess you could say it’s kind of a part of my life.”
A part of his life. That’s what a samurai’s sword meant to them. Izuminokami gripped onto his own sword tightly, remembering Hijikata’s words on that day, when he visited the Bakumatsu period. He had to admit, it moved him to know that swords held such great importance towards samurais.
“Do I get to see your father?”
Inuyasha’s grin dropped slowly. “My father, huh…?” he murmured, turning back around. He began to walk again. “He’s dead.”
Oh. That went dark really quickly.
“I… I’m sorry.” Izuminokami apologized as he followed Inuyasha, “I… I didn’t know…”
“It’s alright. I barely knew him, anyway. Died protecting my mother shortly after I was born.”
Izuminokami felt absolutely terrible. He caught up to Inuyasha, walking right by his side. A quick glance showed him that Inuyasha had an absolutely neutral expression on his face. Indeed, it looked like Inuyasha wasn’t bothered at all. Still, Izuminokami felt a bit of guilt.
“Oi, don’t put up such a face.”
Inuyasha had noticed Izuminokami’s sad expression. “If you’re gonna gripe about it, keep it to yourself.” He hit Izuminokami’s shoulder as a friendly gesture. “Like I said, I could care less about my old man.”
That sounded… a bit disrespectful. The again, Izuminokami didn’t have a father himself, since he was a sword forged by a swordsmith. He didn’t really feel any emotional attachment to the smith, and Hijikata was the only master that he had ever known before his one. Prehaps he understood how the half-demon felt.
“We’re here.”
They finally exited the dark forest to reveal a village just at the bottom of the hill. There were humans in the streets, doing their daily routines. Inuyasha ran down the hill, surprising Izuminokami for a moment before the uchigatana followed after him.
Inuyasha ran to a lonely house that was separated not too far from the village. There, a woman was outside, hanging laundry. She appeared to be wearing the clothing resembling that of a priestess’s outfit.
“Kagome!”
The woman, who was named Kagome, turned. Upon seeing Inuyasha, her lips stretched to a bright smile. “Welcome home, Inuyasha!” She noticed Izuminokami trailing just behind him. “Who is that?”
“It’s the ‘Kanesan’ guy that Horikawa was talking about.” He shared a quick kiss with his wife. “His name is Izuminokami.”
Kagome raised her brows. “Well, it’s nice to meet you, Izuminokami-san!”
“Likewise.” Izuminokami replied. He knew immediately that this woman was Inuyasha’s wife after seeing them share a kiss. “Um… where’s Kunihiro?”
“He’s inside.” Kagome put down the basket of freshly washed laundry and gestured for Izuminokami to follow her inside the house. “He’s resting. Poor guy had a run in with a demon.”
When Izuminokami entered, he was greeted by the sight of Horikawa resting on a straw bed, his shirtless body wrapped in bloodied bandage. Izuminokami felt his sink at the sight. He approached slowly, getting to his knees beside the sleeping Horikawa. “Kunihiro…”
Horikawa shifted. His eyes squeezed shut for a moment, then slowly fluttered open. Blue eyes met another pair of blue eyes. Immediately, Horikawa knew who it was. “Kanesan!” he gasped as he rose from the bed, then hissing at the sharp pain at his wound. He fell back on the bed, hand at the bloodied area of the bandages.
“Oi, Kunihiro!”
“I’m fine, Kanesan,” Horikawa reassured, this time slowly pushing himself up, “Kagome-san helped with the wounds. I was lucky that Inuyasha-san found me in the first place.”
Inuyasha had entered the hut with Kagome. The couple was sitting at one side, watching the interaction between the two Touken Danshi. Goodness, they were cute. Kagome found it sweet, how Izuminokami worried so much for Horikawa.
Izuminokami got back to his feet and turned to face the couple. “Thank you both for taking care of Horikawa.” He bowed down to show his gratitude to them. “I don’t know what would have happened to him, had you not found him.” He was referring to Inuyasha with the last sentence.
“It’s no big deal.” Inuyasha assured with a casual wave of his hand, “It was the right thing to do. I won’t let anyone innocent die.”
Izuminokami nodded. “I guess Kunihiro and I should get going.” He turned to his assistant. “Can you stand, Kunihiro?”
“Yeah.” Horikawa got to his feet with the help of Izuminokami. He had one arm wrapped around his injury, being careful with his movements. He picked up his sword and strapped it to his hip. “The wounds aren’t too lethal. I just can’t make sudden movements.”
Horikawa was able to stand by himself, but Izuminokami helped him anyway. The uchigatana helped Horikawa get dressed properly. Again, Izuminokami bowed to the couple, with Horikawa giving them only a small bow in his condition.
“Again, thank you very much.”
Izuminokami walked up to Inuyasha. “It was nice meeting you, Inuyasha.”
A smile came upon Inuyasha’s face. “I can say the same to you.”
Izuminokami smiled back. He appreciated what Inuyasha and Kagome had done for him and Horikawa. The two Touken Danshis left the house, waving goodbye to the married couple before heading back to the forest, ready to return to the citadel once out of sight. Though their expedition failed, they really couldn’t care much.
“You and Inuyasha got along well.” Horikawa commented with a bright smile, “He does seem like a nice guy.”
Izuminokami smiled as well. “Yeah, he’s a good guy.” He thought about Inuyasha’s sword. The Tetsusaiga. Maybe one day Tetsusaiga will manifest in the citadel, and he can tell him stories about Inuyasha. He looked forward to that day.
But for now, he will live out his life in the citadel.
He rummaged around in his robe and pulled out a pendant with his crest on it. “Well, let’s return.”

Osuwari Through The Years
Summary: a compilation of my favorite running gag featuring a little off course bonus. Because yes.
Word Count: 3.379 Genre: humour (I guess) Fandom: InuYasha Pairing: Inukag Format: oneshot AO3 Link: 🌹 Fanfic.Net Link: 🌹
He was stucked and needed help, that much was obvious. At least obvious to anyone but InuYasha, who was still stubbornly fighting against the web the disgusting youkai had expelled on him - or was it some kind of glue? Kagome had put enough distance between her and the substance to be sure of its nature - keeping the half demon hanging from a tree branch.
The creature, of course, had taken advantage of the situation to make his escape, and vanished three minutes ago with a jewel shard on his neck, which wasn’t doing much to attenuate InuYasha’s already terrible mood.
“Do you want some help there?”
“Keh! As if a weak human like you could help me.” He didn’t even look at her, which for some unknown reason ignited a spark of anger that shined red and warm inside of her.
“I’m just trying to be useful, there’s no need to be rude.”
She could feel it coming, the inevitable fight. It was only a few stupid words away and the hanyou seemed to have an inherent talent when it came to stupidity. So much that Kagome could count the days since they had first met in one hand, while the times they had fight since then had long ago suppressed the hand scale.
“I don’t need your help, alright? I can do it by myself.” He continued to squirm, in vain.
“Yeah? How is that working out for you?” But he did not reply, so she let out a deep sigh and took the bow off her back, along with an arrow. She put them in position and pointed right at the viscous white wire that held him hanging from the tree. “Be still.”
“What? Why?” He finally looked at her and his gaze grew wide the second he did. “What the hell d’you think you’re doing?”
“Would you relax? I think I’m really getting the way of it.”
“You don’t know how to use that thing for the life of you! Put it away before you hit me!” He shouted.
And there they were, the stupid words that made the spark became fire and burn down the last little piece of patiente she still had. She let the bow down slowly, while InuYasha was muttering something she could only assume meant stupid wench.
“You know what? You don’t have to worry about me hitting you anymore. I just thought of a better way to do it.”
“I already told ya I don’t need your h-”
“Osuwari!” Sure enough, the half demon plummeted the considerable height until his face meet the ground with a reverberant sound, dragged by the Kotodama No Nenju. She walked away while he complained in form of obscenities, his face still on the floor. “You’re welcome.”
"I told you it was gonna rain!” He pointed out again as the drops kept falling in soaring intensity. It felt like the upcoming storm was only waiting for them to get far enough from the little village they had left behind so that coming back was impracticable.
As much as he hated the company of the humans, it looked like a good idea to wait there until every sign of rain disappeared from the sky before keep on travelling.
But Kagome was so sure the weather would clear up that they simply left, despite his warnings. Sometimes her blind optimism would give him strength and make him believe in impossible things. Sometimes it would just get both of them soaking wet in the middle of nowhere.
“I heard you from the first three times!”
“Good.” He wasn’t supposed to be enjoying this so much. Specially because in normal circunstances, he would be the one wanting to continue the trip independent of any misfortune and she would be the one choosing to wait.
But now she was in a hurry. Something about having to go back home to study. And he should be mad at her, as he always is when she says she needs to go back, or angry about the fact that she had put them in such situation. But right then he was only worry she was gonna catch a cold.
It felt good to be right for once. He would never say it out loud but this was a position that almost always belonged to Kagome. And it felt even better to know that the not so unpredictable event had delayed her plans a little.
Without saying another word, he took off his suikan and placed it above her head, now that the rain was really getting stronger. Not that it would make a big difference. Nevertheless, she thanked him, which was readily answered with a “keh!”
They walked for a few more seconds before Kagome suddenly stopped.
“Look!” She pointed to a spot ahead, her voice higher with excitement. InuYasha looked at the direction she was already running to, and saw what he assumed it was a abandoned hut, hidden between the trees.
But the floor was slick from all the rain and she slipped before she got there, falling in a mud puddle placed on the path.
“Kagome!” InuYasha ran to her.
“I’m fine, I’m fine.” She said in a reassuring tone, but he needed to see for himself, so he kneeled before her and started to examine every inch of her skin, looking for bruises, but all he could find was mud: on her hair, on her clothes, on her face.
And then it hit him just how hilarious the whole thing was. Not only was she covered on mud head to toe, she had been osuwaried. Not a pleasant experience, is it? InuYasha thought the words but didn’t voice them, doing his best to fight the giggles that threatened to scape.
“It’s not funny!” She grumbled. And it was all it took. He burst out laughing, so hard and loud he wondered if it was really coming from him. InuYasha couldn’t remember the last time he laughed like that - if he had at all -, but he had to admit it was a welcome sensation, and the thought made him laugh even more. “Stop laughing!” He would if he could. “Osuwari.”
The familiar force that pulls him down every time she says the damn word acted, and now it was his face that met the mud. InuYasha should had seen that one coming. He started to get up.
“I take it back. It is funny.” Now was her time to laugh, and something about it made the half demon want to join her.
“Yeah?” InuYasha took a handful of mud and throw at her.
“Jerk!” She yelled, but there was only amusement on her voice as she counterattacked with a handful of mud of her own. And so it went, even after they had standed up and through the way to the hut, playfull fighting and laughing as the rain poured down.
"Hurry up, Kagome! Those shards aren’t going to be found on their own, you know.”
Kagome rolled her eyes to the impatient half demon sitting on her bed and continued to organize her desk, where most of the school supplies remained untouched. She took the mental note of grabbing at least one book and taking it with her to the Feudal Era.
“I told you: we’ll come back after I clean my room.” She reminded him.
“And I told you: it will be faster if you let me help!”
“I’m almost done, you don’t have to get cranky.” Kagome walked to the other side of the bedroom, where the vaccum was. “There’s only the floor left. And I don’t need your help, I have this.” She gestured to the device.
InuYasha came closer, curiously sniffing the household appliance. But the fact went unnoticed by Kagome until it was too late. She had plugged it in and in the second she did, the youkai freaked out.
He screamed so loud and jumped back in shock so high, that had her just as frightened, screaming in return. Before had even occurred to Kagome to ask him what was going on, she noticed where he had landed. The desk she had just finished organizing.
“OSUWARI!” And he fell on the ground with a sonore ploft. “What has gotten into you? You scared the hell out of me!”
InuYasha got up, but didn’t go anywhere near her.
“What has gotten into me? Why the hell do you have a kazaana in your house?” He pointed at the vaccum.
Oh! She was about to laugh when he pulled Tetsusaiga out.
“No, no, no, no, no.” She begged. “Put Tetsusaiga away! It’s just a vaccum.” She unplugged it. “See?” She added, tediously.
InuYasha did as she said and crooked his head, obviously torned between what he had seen and what she had said.
“I still have to clean the floor, so I’m gonna turn it on again, alright?” Kagome plugged the vaccum again, but when she turned back to face him, InuYasha was nowhere to be found. “InuYasha?”
And then she saw him, clinging to the light that hanged from the ceiling. Her eyes went wide with the sight.
“InuYasha, get down right now!”
“No!”
“Don’t make me say the word again, I’m not kidding.”
“Turn that thing off first.”
“InuYasha, get down here before the light-” But before she could finish, the string that kept the light - and now a very frenetic semi demon - hanging gave in to his weight, and gravity did the rest.
“...breaks.” She sighed.
He found her in a heartbeat. It was almost embarassing how fast. But in that moment, with the unmistakable combination of long pitch-black hair and tiny green skirt filling his vision, InuYasha didn’t mind at all.
And then he saw the wolf.
Being the one facing his direction, Kouga spotted him first, just a small glance before he turned his attention back to Kagome, as if InuYasha was an insignificant bug he decided to ignore. His hands on Kagome’s.
It was enough to make red taint his vision and his speed up on their own accord. In the blink of an eye he was between the two of them.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” He growled. “Get your filthy hands off her.” InuYasha ordered, as if he hadn’t break their contact himself as soon as he reached them.
“InuYasha!” Kagome exclaimed behind him.
“What does it look like I’m doing, you stupid mutt? I’m talking to my future wife.” The bastard smiled at her, and InuYasha’s growl became deeper, his fangs positively showing now.
“Kouga-Kun, please don’t make it worse.”
“And you!” He turned to Kagome. “We have been waiting for you this whole time! I thought something had happened!”
“I’m so sorry, InuYasha. I didn’t mean to make you worry. We were talking and I lost track of time, that’s all.” He could tell she meant every word, but the very fact that she hadn’t see time pass while she was with Kouga made his blood boil.
“You know what?” He grabbed her by the waist and threw her over his shoulder before she had time to do anything beyond gasp in surprise. “You can feel sorry on our way back.” InuYasha started to walk.
“Kagome, do you want me to set you free from this pulsing dog? Just say the word and I’ll kick him on the face.” As Kouga spoke, InuYasha found strong resistance to his advances and didn’t have to look back to know it was because the stinky wolf was holding her hands again.
“Do you still want to have hands?” The hanyou asked, through teeth clenched so hard it was a miracle any word could come out of it at all.
“It’s alright, Kouga-Kun, really. He has a point. I do have to get back now. And I’m sure Ginta and Hakkaku are looking for you, somewhere. You should get back to the tribe.” Kagome rambled on nervously while InuYasha was putting all his effort on giving another step forward.
“Kagome, you are so clever.” InuYasha heard in furious anger the sound that indicated the wolf demon was kissing her hands. “No wonder I chose you to be my wife.”
“Oh, stop that.” She bashfully answered him.
“Yeah.” Agreed InuYasha. “Stop it.” And then the pressure that was keeping them on the same place dissipated, and InuYasha started to move forward again. Kouga made a disdainful sound.
“It’s a good thing for you she is around to save your ass, mutt. One of these days you won’t be so lucky.”
“Bring it on, idiot.”
“I’ll see you soon, Kagome.” He shouted, as InuYasha worked to put as much distance between the youkai and Kagome as he could.
“See you!” She yelled back enthusiastically. InuYasha deliberately adjusted her weight with a not so careful jolt, earning an annoyed, protesting sound from the school girl.
Kouga left in his peculiar speed and only then InuYasha reduced his pace.
“Alright, he is gone. You can stop making a scene and let me down immediately.”
The half demon didn’t know what making a scene was, but he didn’t have to be a genious to realize she was madly angry. Every trace of sympathy, so characteristic of her voice, had vanished. And he knew her well enough to know he had taken a dangerous path, but he couldn’t care less. If she was mad, so was he.
“So you can osuwari me? I don’t feel like it.”
“And what makes you think I won’t do it right now?” Defied Kagome.
“I’m holding you. You can’t possibly be that stupid.”
“Let me down!” She started to hit his back with her fists and convulsively kick her legs. InuYasha tightened his arm around her.
“No.”
“InuYasha, I swear I’ll do it.”
“You wouldn’t.”
“OSUWARI!”
And so they fell, attracted to the ground by the Beads Of Subjugation on his neck. InuYasha with his face to the grass, Kagome on her back, somewhat still trapped in his embrace.
“Get off me!” She demanded furiously, pushing him away as he tried to recover from the tumble. InuYasha grabbed her stubborn hands firmly and climbed on the top of her to keep her still.
“Are you crazy? You could have gotten hurt!” InuYasha roared the words in pure anger and waited for her to curse him something in return. The reply never came.
Instead, she sustained his gaze, defiant. Her breath was heavy and uneven from all the fuss and he could feel it warm and sweet on his face. InuYasha blinked and felt his expression softened instantly at the vision before his golden eyes: parted lips, onyx hair spread across the gras and chest going up and down beneath him. And he asked himself, which he have been doing with an alarming frequency lately, if Kagome has always been that gorgeous.
They remained like that until the sound of Kagome’s heart, strong and fast, was the only thing breaking the silence. It wasn’t until then that he noticed just how close their faces were and that his heart was matching the speed of hers with every passing second.
She swallowed and his eyes followed the moviment of her exposed throat, then went up to her lips and back to her eyes. InuYasha wondered what she would do if he kissed her right then, right there. But he never got the answer.
The hanyou let go of Kagome and stood up, holding out his hand to her. She ignored it and, with a deep sigh, got on her feet by herself. He watched as she cleaned the grass away from her skirt, thinking she was one of the few people who could make all of her anger appear through the simple gesture.
And judging by how scarlet her cheeks were, Kagome was beyond angry. Sure, InuYasha knew his face was probably in the same embarrasing tone of red, but he supposed it was for a complete different reason.
“Weren’t you on a hurry?” It hadn't occurred to him he was paralyzed, observing her every move until she talked again and she sounded more tired than irritaded this time, the hanyou couldn’t tell why. “Let’s go.”
“Hum? Yeah.” Was all InuYasha was able to say as he walked to her.
(Very Slightly NSFW) BONUS 🌹: with the first ray of sunlight, the hanyou woke up to the beautiful view of his wife’s naked back. The sight was far from being a novelty, but its familiarity didn’t stop the thrill from rushing through his body or the smile from spreading across his face. And he doubt it ever would.
His lips acted on their own accord, slowly kissing their way from her back to her shoulder. InuYasha couldn’t tell exactly in what moment of the process Kagome had woken up, but now her hand was caressing the back of his head, encouraging him to keep going. It was all he needed.
InuYasha turned his attentions to her neck, a muffled “good morning” between one kiss and the other. He put his arm possessively around her waist and took the advantage to pull her close, yearning to feel every piece of her, bare skin against bare skin.
“Good morning in deed.” Kagome giggled. The hanyou smiled and sucked hungrily at her neck, causing the priestess caress to become a strong grip on his silvery hair. InuYasha relieved the hold on her waist and let his hand leisurely slither down her body.
But before he could get any further, his body paralyzed in tension, sensitive ears twitching to the sounds of an awakened Shippou heading to their bedroom. He
“What’s wrong?” Kagome wanted to know, hands letting go of his hair, breath still uneven from anticipation. It was Shippou who answered her question.
“Are you guys awake? I’m so hungry.” He said, outside. Kagome giggled, finally understanding. InuYasha ignored the fox demon, choosing to bite his wife’s ear lobe instead.
“Let’s just pretend we’re not here.”
“I can hear you, stupid!”
“Come on, InuYasha, aren’t you hungry too?” The priestess wanted to know. InuYasha replied with a cocky smile and a new trail of kisses to the naked flesh of her shoulders.
“Starving.”
“I know for a fact you are not that hungry ‘cause we just had a pretty good meal last night.” The hanyou knew she had a point, but the memories of the night before had on him the opposite effect she was looking for. In a bold move, InuYasha grabbed one of her breasts, caressing it the way he knew she liked it.
“Will you keep talking about food without making any? Cause my stomach started to hurt.” Complained the little demon. InuYasha growled.
“Go to Sango’s! Eat yesterday’s leftovers! I don’t care!” He exploded, and resumed on his intention of kissing every inch of his wife’s body.
“Kagome!” Shippou tried, on a pleading voice. InuYasha could even imagine the little pout on the brat’s face.
“InuYasha...” She started, and he already knew how it was gonna go.
“I know, I know.” The half demon interupted her. “Osuwari!” He finished her sentence with an inaccurate impression of her voice and sat up. Kagome looked very pleased by it.
“Just one second, Shippou-Chan! InuYasha will take care of it!”
“Yeah, I’m gonna need a little more than a second.” He said, low. Kagome bit back a laugh, which didn’t help at all.
InuYasha sighed and stood up, picking up his clothes as he spotted them.
“Have you seen my-” But when InuYasha looked at her to ask, he found out that his underwear was already hanging from her index finger. InuYasha smiled at her smug face and took the fabric back.
Kagome got up, putting her clothes on as well.
“What do you want to eat, brat?” InuYasha shouted.
“Fish is fine. Two fishes. Actually, make it three.” The half demon rolled his eyes and made his way to the window that would take him to the forest outside.
“InuYasha, wait!” He heard his wife call.
“Hum?” Kagome came to him and placed her tiny, smooth hands on his chest, carressing it slowly before grabbing his suikan and bring him down to meet her lips in a hot, deep kiss.
“We will continue this later.” She promised.
“Keh!”

If It Were Me Chapter Four
Author’s Note: I have researched multiple times on various sites and even in the manga. Inuyasha’s sword has been spelled both ways: Tessiaga and Tetsusaiga. I previously found episode six of the anime series and it too was spelled Tetsusaiga. But because of some other research, I am going to spell it Tessiaga. Because according to the Japanese dictionary for dummies, “tsu” is not found in the Japanese alphabet.
Now I could be absolutely wrong, NOT everything they put on the internet is true, AND I am an American, who wishes she knew the original Japanese language. So, either way you want to spell it; Tetsusaiga or Tessiaga, it still means Iron-Crushing Fang.
For my girls for being the support and the voices of encouragement I need every day. I love y’all so much. @adorableears7 @kags09 @lacyjaybird @inukag-4ever @inunanna @keichanz
Previously in If It Were Me:
Chapter Four: Aristocratic Assassin, Sesshomaru
It was quiet, far too quiet.
As they approached the mountain side, Kagome was a bit more nervous than she wanted to admit. “It’s never this silent.” She spoke. “The mountains are always alive with noise of animal life.” Inuyasha sensed it too and his ears twitched once then twice, but he could only hear the rustling of the leaves from the wind. Kagome climbed off his back and made her way to the opening of a small cave at the top of the hill Inuyasha had landed on. “This way.”
The half-demon followed her, keeping alert of any movement or noise in the distance. The cave was dark and Inuyasha could hear the faint dripping of water. “Do you have a light?” The look on the miko’s face said it all, so with a sigh, Inuyasha stopped. Hadn’t he brought his house keys with him? His key chain had a small, flashlight on it. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he searched for the keys. “I know I brought them.” He mumbled. Inuyasha withdrew his cell phone, which would have been great, had it not died two days ago. With a triumphant shout he withdrew them from the top pocket of his uniform jacket. “Found them.”
“You have been mumbling, what is so—hey!” The bright light flashed in her face. “What is that?”
“It’s called a flashlight.”
“Huh? Amazing.” Kagome took it from him, aiming it directly into her eyes.
“No!” Inuyasha reprimanded her as he snatched the flashlight from her grasp. “You want to be blind?”
Kagome shook her head quickly, before grabbing his hand. “I believe there is a door at the back of the cave. If rumors are true.”
“We’re going off a rumor?”
Kagome nodded as she led him into the belly of the cave. He aimed the light as he examined the walls and floor, like hell he was going to fall into a never ending gap in the cave bottom. He wasn’t sure what he was looking for, but Kagome had a right mind. “Aim that thing over there.” Inuyasha did as told and she smiled. “There it is. Inuyasha, welcome to Tashio Castle.”
The half-demon helped her pushed the doors open. A gust of wind whirled around them and Inuyasha sneezed as the dust surrounded his sensitive nose. When his vision cleared, his mouth fell open. The castle was magnificent. “This belongs to my father?”
Kagome moved to stand beside him. “Yes, only I am not sure if Sesshomaru has ever made his way to the castle. Once your father disappeared, the remaining staff had a seal placed over the castle. No youkai can enter.”
“Um, I’m part youkai.” He stated.
She nodded. “But you are blood. I believe you are indeed safe.”
Inuyasha smiled as the raven, haired beauty took his hand once more. He followed her through the winding courtyard and up to the front doors. Pushing through, they entered the main hall. It was quite a sight for Kagome. Never had she seen such an exquisite place. He sniffed a few times, but he shook his head. “I don’t smell or sense anyone or thing in the area.”
“Me either.” She looked at him. “I mean I don’t sense anyone. I’ll leave the smelling to you.” He laughed at her comment.
Following the main hall to a large staircase in the center of the palace, Kagome stepped up. She motioned for him to follow. The stairs led up to a second floor, then a third floor, until finally they came to the fourth and final floor. Kagome intertwined their fingers. “It’s dark.”
Inuyasha aimed the light down until it rested on a large vault like door at the end of the long hall. “What is that?” He asked moving to stand before her.
Kagome shrugged as they continued on, stopping for a moment to listen for a sound. “Do you hear anything?” Inuyasha shook his adorable, dog-eared head. “Okay, well how do we open the door?”
“I’m guessing Abra Cadabra won’t help us.”
“Um, what?”
“Never mind.” He sighed. Inuyasha wasn’t sure what he could do to open the door. Inuyasha turned to look at her and he pointed to her chest. His rosary was glowing a bright red. “What the hell?” She pulled the necklace from around her slender neck and handed it to him. It reacted the closer he put it to the stone.
“Inuyasha, the door has a marking that looks exactly like the fangs on your necklace.” She took the rosary and placed one of the fangs in the indented stone. The fang became a brighter red for a moment and then the door made a loud grunt in protest before opening up with a shake. Inuyasha grabbed Kagome and pulled her to him as the ground shook violently.
Soon the passage opened up completely and they stepped inside. Inuyasha placed the necklace back around her slender neck, which caused her to blush violently, and crossed the threshold into the room to examined the space. In the center was a large table, and on that table was a set of red sashinuki and a suikan with a white haori. “What a beautiful color.” Kagome said. “You can wear this in this era until we get you home.” She put the outfit up to him. “Try it on.”
Inuyasha protested at first, but Kagome had a look in her eyes that he didn’t understand why he couldn’t say no. Damn wench is really annoying. Making me feel all weird. He sighed. “Hand them over wench.” He snatched them from her and told her to turn around while he dressed. Of course she couldn’t see him in the darkness anyway. The vault had no windows for the sunlight to spill through. “Okay.” He held his other clothes in his arm.
She aimed the light at him and her heart hit the floor. The sleeves split open above the shoulders, and the cuffs had a string woven through them called a sode-kukuri. His hakama were bloused at the ankles and the hakama cords tied in front. The red contrasted with the silver of his hair so well and she felt herself feeling unusual. Was this the sort of attraction women felt when they had a heat pooling in the pit of their stomach? She wasn’t sure. She never felt sexually attracted to anyone, even Onigumo. His golden eyes searched hers for a moment, a faint blush on his cheeks.
“You’re red Kagome.” He teased. She looks like she wants to eat me. He thought the way her eyes roamed his body. “Are they—it look okay?” He asked.
She snapped back to attention. “Oh—uh yes. Very nice. Fits perfectly.” The priestess turned and flashed the light elsewhere. A gleam caught her eye and she roamed the room once more. On the wall a set of swords were displayed. “Inuyasha, look.” Under one sword, was the Kanji word for Tessaiga and under the other sword was the Kanji word for Tenseiga. “Hm, Tessaiga and Tenseiga huh?” She reached out to touch one, but the sword Tessaiga pulsed.
“Kagome.” He felt an urge to reach out and grab it. Something in him was pushing to the surface. His demonic side had been dormant since he could remember, why was it reacting now? His eyes flashed red and Kagome moved away from him.
“Inu--yasha?” Her voice broken with a hint of fear.
His fangs grew longer and his claws as lengthened a fair amount. His knuckles cracked as a red hue surrounded him. Purple streaks appeared on his cheeks and a blue orb appeared in the center of his eyes where the pupil once was. Tessaiga pulsed once more and shook against the display. Kagome looked from him to the sword. Is it calling out to him? Before she could think, she grabbed the sword and thrust it into Inuyasha’s hands. Once his palm was on the handle of the sword, the red disappeared and his eyes slowly returned to normal. “What the hell?” He asked as he shook his head and rubbed his temple.
“I think—the sword, Tessaiga, was calling out to you. I’m not sure why, but it pulsed and you changed, a demonic form took over. Once the sword stopped shaking, I handed it to you and you calmed down.” She rested her hands on his shoulder. “Are you okay?”
He nodded and shrugged her off. “Yeah. Thanks.” He placed the sword on his hip. “I’m sure my father will know what is going on once I finally get home again. Let’s get out of here.” He tugged her towards the door. They left the vault open as they ran for the courtyard.
Stopping, Inuyasha sniffed. He halted causing Kagome to run into his back. “What is it?”
“Hand me my rosary.” Kagome did as told and Inuyasha slipped it on. He shrugged. “I sensed something, but it’s gone now. Come on. I don’t really like it here. Something about this place is giving me the willies.” Fuck. Did he really just say “willies”? Smooth move, dog-boy.
Kagome was not sure what the ‘willies’ were, but she sure didn’t want it. “Okay.”
Once they exited the cave, Inuyasha once again had halted. Sesshomaru? Before him stood his half-brother, wearing some unusual clothes, much like the ones he was wearing.
Kagome gaped at him. Is that a tail?
His kimono, Kagome noticed, was a beautiful white with red and white flowers that resembled lotus petals, down the side of the sleeves. A flower crest at the collar and sleeves, flashed showing that he is of royal birth. Sesshomaru's armor was a spiked pauldron that covered his left shoulder attached to the upper section of his cuirass and "lotus petal" faulds. Around his waist was a large yellow sash that swirled with a deep blue design. He wore white sashinuki hakamas that gathered at the ankles, much like Inuyasha’s red ones. On his right shoulder he had his mokomoko-sama: the fur and tail of his true form which was oblivious to Kagome, because Inuyasha knew his brother’s true form. He currently retains in a humanoid form.
“Is that the crescent moon of the royal family?” Kagome asked.
“What is it to you, human?”
“I never noticed it before.” Kagome mumbled.
“This Sesshomaru has no use of the likes of you pathetic humans.” He glared at Inuyasha, his deep golden orbs piercing Inuyasha’s hidden ones. “You, why are you wearing the Robe of the Fire Rat?”
Inuyasha looked down. “What are you talking about?”
“The robe you fool. My father kept it hidden in a vault with the—“ He stopped “Tessaiga?”
Kagome pulled at his arm. “We can’t let him know who you are.” She barely whispered. Inuyasha nodded.
“We found it in the vault.” Kagome spoke up.
“Impossible. Give it to me.”
“No.” Inuyasha pushed Kagome behind him. “Finders keepers.”
Sesshomaru’s claws grew a nasty green. “I shall take it by force.” He flipped out a poison whip and Inuyasha covered his face with the sleeve of his robe. The whip stopped and he looked up. “Are you going to fight human?”
Inuyasha looked at him. “Didn’t wanna.” Another whip came out and this time Inuyasha wielded the sword. It was rusty and thin. “What the hell is this?”
Sesshomaru looked pleased. “It cannot be wielded by a human.” He spoke as if to mock Inuyasha. “This Sesshomaru wants what is rightfully his.” He sent another attack of poisonous whips at him.
Kagome grew furious. “You’re not fighting fair Sesshomaru!” She shouted. Kagome fired a sacred arrow at him and he caught it with his fingers, the poison disintegrating it.
“Kagome. Stay back! That poison is not to be taken lightly!” Inuyasha yelled. “I will protect you! Trust me!”
“When it comes to humans, I, of course, bear no such weakness.” Sesshomaru spat aiming for Kagome.
Shaking his sword he looked at Kagome. “Piece of shi—“ The sword pulsed angrily. “Huh?” With one more go, the sword transformed into a large fang. He almost dropped it from the weight. “Fuck.”
The older demon glared. “Impossible.” Flying forward in anger, Sesshomaru swiped at Inuyasha. He threw the sword up and collided with he daiyoukai. Tessiaga beamed angrily once again and Inuyasha swung with a powerful sweep of his arms this time; Sesshomaru dodged, almost losing an arm. They continued to fight, which ended up really being a waste of time. The poison claws did not damage the fire rat, and the Tessaiga was doing little damage with Sesshomaru wielding a sword himself.
Sesshomaru aimed another attack at Kagome and with lightening speed, Inuyasha jumped in the way, taking a whip to the back. The force made him tumble, but he suppressed no injury. Standing, he used the sword as a cane before he turned to check on Kagome. No harm had come to her and Inuyasha forced the priestess behind a rock. Inuyasha lifted Tessiaga back up once more.
“So, think you are tough?” Sesshomaru knew his father had hidden away the swords because the daiyoukai wanted Tessaiga for himself for it holds the power of destruction. The other sword was a healing weapon; no damage would come from Tensaiga. Sesshomaru grew bored and gave up the fight.
He could not wield Tessaiga now that it had chosen a master, so Sesshomaru would have to devise a better plan. He would have a stronger sword made to demolish the weak human and take the Tessiaga by force.
“What is your name, boy?”
Inuyasha grinned. Wouldn’t you like to know that I am really your half-brother and we get along pretty decently in 500 years?
“What are you smiling about? I simply asked a question. I do not care, I'm just curious.”
“Ash.” He replied. “They call me Ash.”
Sesshomaru’s mouth formed a tight line. “I’ll be back for the sword and I will kill you next time. Today you were simply lucky.” He turned to Kagome. “I’ll probably kill you too miko, for firing a purified arrow at me.” With that he took off into the sky in a bright, white orb.
“That was the weirdest thing I have ever done.” Inuyasha admitted.
Kagome frowned. “Heartless and cold is he not?” Inuyasha could only nod his agreement.
“I didn’t realize what an actual cold-hearted bastard he was. You should meet him in my time. Ever since he had a kid of his own, he’s not so murderous.” He laughed slightly. “I can’t believe he really was this evil.” He murmured.
“I thought you said he was still cold hearted in your era?” Kagome asked softly.
“He is, but not near that heartless. I guess 500 years will finally get to you.” He shrugged.
“Maybe we should try and get you home.” She bowed her head and turned to walk down the mountain side. And if she was hiding the look of hurt in her eyes, well Inuyasha didn’t need to see.
He looked at her retreating form and sighed. He really didn’t want to leave her. Kagome was different from the girls in his time. Okay, so she was a priestess who guarded a powerful jewel that grants one immense power, and also had amazing archery skills. Not to mention she was the most gorgeous woman he had ever met. Maybe I was just born in the wrong era. Shaking his head, he jogged to catch up to her. “So, what do you plan on doing with the jewel?”
Kagome glanced at his handsome face, trying to hide the blush that crossed her features at the closeness of his body to hers. “I plan on keeping it away from every demon that comes after it. I guess I’ll have to take up demon extermination.” She laughed at her own clever joke.
“You’re a miko, not a demon slayer.” He corrected.
She slapped her palm to her forehead lightly. “Oh right! How stupid of me to forget such a simple detail.” Sarcasm just rolled off that sentence.
He cocked an eyebrow at her before crossing his arms. “Infuriating wench.” He growled. Kagome really had some nerve when she spoke to Inuyasha the way she did. The remainder of the walk to the well was a silent one. Inuyasha leaned over the side and looked down. It was a good drop, and he hoped that whatever it did to bring him here, would react the same way to take him home. “Well, this is my stop.”
Kagome sighed. “I guess so.” She looked up at him. “I don’t know what this feeling is or why I feel it, but I really think this was meant to happen.” She reached out to touch his cheek. “Thank you for helping me. Maybe you can come back to visit, if the well allows it.”
Hopeful eyes stared into his. “Yeah.” Inuyasha nodded. He felt some odd pull at his heart as he looked back towards the well. Before he could think about it, Inuyasha blurted, “Why not come with me?”
Wait, what?
Kagome’s eyes widened. “You—you want me to go with you?”
He shrugged. “Only if you want to. I mean not forever, but maybe for a visit.”
Kagome’s smile faded a little. Not forever. “Okay. That sounds fun. I wonder if the well will let me through. If it acts like a portal and connects you to me, then maybe I can get through.”
“It didn’t connect me to you. It connected me to the—“ He stopped. Kagome’s head was hung down and he could smell the faint scent of tears. Inuyasha swore under his breath. “I mean-”
Kagome shook her head. “I know what you meant, dog-boy. Shut up and let’s see what happens.” She stood next to him and began to climb over the well. A clawed hand stopped her.
“No. If you fall down there and the well doesn’t activate, you’ll break something.” He scooped her up bridal style. Kagome blushed prettily. “Now, lets see what happens.” Then he jumped.
They closed their eyes tight, but Kagome felt a pulse in her side. She peeked through her left eye to see what was happening. Kagome gasped. The two of them were engulfed in blue, but as soon as it began it ended. The well became dark and no sky could be seen, above them. “It worked.” Inuyasha leapt from the well bottom and placed Kagome on her feet. “We better get out of here.” He grabbed her hand and tugged her along to exit the shrine grounds.
“Oh my—“ Kagome was in awe as they descended the shrine steps and the city came into view. “What is this place?”
“This is Tokyo, well, Modern day Tokyo five hundred years from where we were a moment ago.” Inuyasha explained. He tugged her hand to get her attention. “We’ll check it out later. Come on, we need to change clothes.” Looking back and forth from Kagome and himself, he sighed. Izayoi would not be pleased to know he was hopping between worlds. “Come on.”
---IK---
Toga slammed his fist onto the table. “Where the hell is he?!” He shouted.
“Calm down, father. We have searched every inch of Tokyo. He isn’t here.” Sesshomaru calmly stated as he sat across the table from Toga.
“He’s right dear.” Izayoi placed her hand on his fist as silent tears fell down her cheeks.
Toga sighed, wrapping his arms around his wife to calm her fears that their son wasn’t coming home. “I don’t understand. Ryou said he never saw Inuyasha that night, but I swear Inuyasha said he was hanging out with him.”
Sesshomaru stood. “He’ll come home. We just have to keep looking.”
“It’s been three days.” Izayoi cried. “What if he has been hurt?”
“He’s a half-demon. He’ll survive. Plus, I have been through every hospital and morgue I can think of. No sign of him or any reported accidents involving a teenager fitting Inuyasha’s description.” Sesshomaru walked towards the door. “I have to get home. I will keep in touch with any news I come across.”
Izayoi nodded. Looking up at her husband, she gasped. A single tear fell from his eye. “Dear.” He hugged her, hoping and praying that Inuyasha was indeed still alive.
---IK---
Kaede felt a chill run up her old spine as she picked herbs in her garden. “Nice of ye to drop by Kikyou.” The old woman struggled to stand, but soon came face to face with her older sister.
“Kaede. Where is the girl?”
“I don’t know.”
“Lies. I know you know where she is.” Kikyou inched closer. “I also know the jewel has finally shown itself.”
Kaede shook her head. “No one has actually seen the jewel, sister. It is but a rumor.”
“More lies. Tell me Kaede, how long do you plan to keep this from me?” the resurrected miko’s eyes were cold, void.
“Tell me Kikyou, how long had ye planned to betray our family and the Higurashi’s?” Kaede’s question slapped Kikyou and her eyes widened.
“How dare you speak to me like that.”
“Ye best leave Kikyo. There is noone or nothing here for ye. The girl is gone. She has been for three days. I honestly haven’t seen her.”
Kikyou stepped back and looked around. “The powerful aura I sensed is gone too. Who or what did it belong to?”
“Ye are losing touch. There hasn’t been any strong aura since Naraku.”
“Keep adding them up Kaede. Lies will smother you.” She looked back and sighed. “I shall take my leave for now, but trust me sister, I will be back and I will find Kagome.” Her soul collectors lifted her high into the air. “The jewel will be mine.” She promised before she was carried away.
“Ye will see about that.” Kaede whispered as she walked into her hut, basket of herbs in tow.

Not Alone
As soon as we encountered the villagers of course they immediately think badly of me but without hesitation Kagome stepped beside me to fight on my behalf. I resist the urge to fight them, I hate being looked down upon, and I certainly don’t care for a girl having to fight my battles for me; especially this one. But I remain expressionless in that regard, rather travelling back into my own thoughts of her. I sometimes wonder but dare not ask, when she looks at me, when she saw me for the first time why wasn’t she scared like any other human? Bugs scare her! But not demons? I know it’s not something she encountered before falling into our world, so she couldn’t have developed a tolerance so easily right? Or could she have?
~~~
We headed into the village, Inuyasha leading the way and low and behold a giant creature with large blue eyes stood in the field. But I don’t sense malice from him, could the villagers be wrong about him? Inuyasha had drawn Tetsusaiga ready for the battle that never came…
~~~
I don’t want to admit it but as a kindred Hanyo, I feel a little bad for this creature. Humans can be so cruel, so quick to judge. Just because we are demons they automatically think we must be evil. But this thing, I smell no blood and if he had just killed a woman there should be something. Stones. I stand there dumbstruck as this demon cried for his mother! And there Kagome goes again, standing up for another demon. Keh, excuse me?! If they hurt her I’ll terrorize the village?! Okay, yes, I would. Fine, I’ll stop the real killer for them just to make her happy.
~~~
Jinenji is such a gentle soul how can they not realize he’d never hurt anyone! I can see how the way he looks or his massive size doesn’t help, it’s not like he can easily hide away. But my god, look at all the marks on his body, how much pain and suffering have those villagers caused to him?!
I wonder if this treatment is something Inuyasha experienced? Oh, I’m sure he wouldn’t have ran away but instead fought back. But still to see it happen right in front of me to another half-demon, I feel like I’m also learning about another chapter to Inuyasha’s life that will help me to understand him. If I had been shunned by everyone till now, what kind of person would I have become? Would I be more guarded, more temperamental?
~~~
After the battle with the killer demon. I watched her with Jinenji, and it was amazing the effect she had on him, it’s like her very presence became soothing for this giant creature. I may not have had the easiest life, being bullied for much of it, spat at and targeted by humans or demons alike, but even I can’t imagine what his life must have been like; at least I look somewhat human. The way he looks at her, is that how I look when I think she’s not watching me? It’s like a mixture of happiness, and maybe even a little bit of longing… As if he’d have a chance with her, Tch, as if I’d let that happen…
I’m glad he had found the courage to stand up to that demon but he still couldn’t bring it upon himself to punish those damn villagers that caused him so much pain! That was my method, show your power, show your strength and through fear and intimidation you will gain respect or at least they’ll leave you alone… Yet those villagers, once they saw that he was in deed a gentle creature, no longer feared him but they somewhat embraced him. He was surrounded by them now, working the fields, helping to rebuild the home they had destroyed. Was my way really the right way? It was the only way I knew but it left me so lonely.
~~~
He’s thinking about something again. I can see it in his face, I can almost sense it, but too bad I can’t hear what’s going on in that head of his! And to my surprise and delight, that’s when he opened-up to me…
~~~
I’m not alone anymore… she had said with a smile before walking away. So, I stood there just watching her, not alone? I pondered those words… Not alone. She was right. For the first time it finally hit me, I could lose everything, I could even lose the new friends I’ve made but I would never be alone again because yeah…
Kagome would be by my side.
~~~
I was so happy that Inuyasha finally confided something to me! I had been waiting for this moment, when he’d finally feel comfortable enough to let me in, even if just a tiny bit, that one action I hope will not be the last but the first crack in that wall he created within himself. That tough-man façade that I know is really just an act but still, I’m finally starting to reach into his heart…
~~~
I smile at the thought. Here I was thinking that after so much loss I’d never be able to open my heart again and yet she had somehow managed to do it. She pierced me not with an arrow but with her beautiful soul…

30. Tourist/knowledgeable local au Inukag
Here it comes! So I’m not a fan of the trope I use in this (not the AU though, which I actually quite some fun with), but I’m going to act like it doesn’t really count, because Kagome’s still acting like the absolute badass she is. This is not meant to be happening in any place in particular. Hope you’ll enjoy — and sorry for the delay!
Inuyashacouldn’t stand tourists. He didn’t like them walking around inhis town like they owned it, didn’t like them taking pictures, didn’t like them buying stuff and getting overexcited about “howgood these people were at crafting!”. Yeah, they were, of fuckingcourse. They’d been doing that for centuries, if not more. Hadn’tneeded them for that either — except that now, tourism was theirmain income, and they didn’t have a fucking choice.
Hedidn’t like the competition it had started between villagers, didn’t like the people who had started settling down in town forthe money and who certainly were nottraditional craftsmen, and most of all, he despised the two enormoushotels that had opened at the bottom of the mountain, allowing thetourists to come up in those ridiculous, hideous white buses.
Therewas nothing good about any of that, if you asked him. Good for theeconomy? Lie. They were doing just fine before, and they’d be doingjust fine if they were still able to take care of animals, as theyhad for as long as anyone could remember, instead of being forced toabandon their crops and farming.
Goodfor the culture? Lie —and stupid. Those people didn’t care abouttheir culture, they cared about the exoticism. They cared about taking pictures with an old man dressed in colorfulclothing, and they cared about being able to tell all their friends, back in the big city, how “this trip has changed my life” and“the people there really live with nothing, it’s soinspiring!”.
Ha.And then when they came down of the mountain to study, they weretreated like shit. Like peasants who didn’t know anything, andtheir culture, their way of dressing, of speaking, of thinking,as some weird abnormality that could be made fun of, but was justcoolwhen someone who’d been there walked in with one of theirnecklaces, without any idea of what it was supposed to mean.
Sure, that wasn’t the only thing Inuyasha had had to deal with, but whathe got from being a half-demon only added to that blatant hypocrisy. And he wasn’t even talking about the way they had insinuated thatonly indigenous women would fuck a demon, the insult on his motherbarely hidden.
Mostof them had never even met a fucking demon, of course, since they hadabandoned most urbanized areas, remaining in some of the last havens, such as his mountain.
And,to be honest, making sure it remained like that. For now, at least,no one had dared trying to build new, modern houses on the mountain.Or, well, they’d tried, but there had been gruesome murders, orsaid places had been destroyed, and the people in the village hadn’tlet anyone know of the secrets to be accepted here.
Yet,because Inuyasha had no idea how long that would last.
Butthey did come to visit. Demons didn’t do anything about that, unless you did some stupid shit that really pissed them off.
Well, unless you were in the mountain during the night.
Theywarned tourists about that continually. Don’tthrow your trash in the mountain.Don’tstray from the path. And, whatever you do, don’t, under anycircumstances, stay there after the sun has set.
Still,he couldn’t say he was surprised when a travel courier bursted intothe only inn in the village, followed by a group of distressedcollege students, only a couple of years younger than him, minutesbefore the sunset.
Ofcourse, Sango was the one to walk up to them. Better off that way. He’d been told he scared people. Which was good, actually. Maybethat way they’d respectthe fucking rules. Not that Sango was one to joke with said rules, but she at leastmanaged to stay calm.
Fromwhere he was, he could only hear bits and pieces about theconversation.
“Students…Lost… Fall… Tried to get them…”
Untilhe couldn’t take it anymore. The sun was setting already. Everysecond was vital now, they couldn’t wait for the end of that story.
“Howmany of them?” he asked, standing up, making the woman start thencower.
“F-four,”she replied while Sango glared at him.
Hecursed. Fucking four? What the— had they thought it’d be afun experience?
“Youmentioned a cliff, right?” Sango asked, her voice still calm, buthe could tell there was urgency running under it, and he hissed. Hehad quite a precise idea of the place the woman was talking about, and that was— That was bad.
“Right,”she replied. “Eri slipped, and then—”
Again, they didn’t have time for that.
“Sango.Leaving.”
Shenodded, turning back to glance at her husband. “Miroku, can youtake it from there?”
Hegave her a reassuring smile. In other circumstances, a more dangerousnight for example, or if they had a real chance of bringing them backalive, he would be joining them, but tonight he’d probably bebetter here, calming down the panicked group.
Himand Sango were walking out, after she had just taken the time to grabher giant boomerang, when they were stopped by a young man, wholooked exceptionally common.Brown hair, brown eyes…
“Isthere any way I can come with you?”
…anda hero complex, apparently.
“Certainlynot,” Inuyasha growled before Sango could even open her mouth. “Wedon’t need someone else out there.”
Hepaled. “But Higurashi…”
“We’llbring her back,” Sango promised, setting a calming hand on hisshoulder. “For now though, the best thing you can do is stay here, okay?”
Henodded, but didn’t move out of the way.
“Her?”Inuyasha asked.
“Fourgirls,” Sango replied, glancing at him briefly.
“Keh.”That was unusual, to say the least. People who wanted to provethemselves or whatever other shit went through their stupid mindswere usually boys. “We’ll get your girlfriend, boy. Now move.”
“Oh,Higurashi isn’t my—”
Inuyashatook a threatening step forward. No fucking timefor that. Sango gave the young man one last smile, and then they wereout in the night.
Theair was cold. It was spring already, but they were pretty high up,and demonic energy somehow tended to cool the air. Scientists wouldprobably have had quite a lot to say about it, had they dared to stayaround to study it. But they last team had met an unfortunate ending, and no one had come around since then.
“We’llhave to be quick,” Inuyasha said as they started running towardsthe forest.
Sangodidn’t say anything, simply bringing to her lips the whistle madeof wood she carried around her neck. Only seconds later, a fire-catdemon was out of the woods, and Sango easily jumped on her back, in amovement made swift by practice.
Hewas used to that by now, but still, it was quite impressive.
Thesun was setting just as they ventured in the mountain.
Theyran, unnoticed, silent, for what felt like hours. It had to beshorter than that, but the sound of the forest and the mountainawakeningaroundthem was a worrying weight on their shoulders.
Theyboth knew there was probably no point in doing that. Demons weren’tknown for their patience. They’d be lucky if they even left bonesbehind. Yet, neither of them considered abandoning them. Maybe, bysome miracle, they had managed to hide somewhere. Maybe they’d beenable to push the demons away.
Well,it turned out it was a night for a miracle.
“Smell‘em,” Inuyasha simply said, directing Sango and Kirara in theright direction.
Hedidn’t say he also smelled countless demons. There was no point, and they’d find it out soon enough. Plus, Sango was rathersensitive to the energy, so she was probably aware of it already. Both of them braced themselves for what they would find. They knewthey were nearing the bottom of the cliff. It wasn’t a nice fall, but it wasn’t high enough for them to worry all that much about it.There was however a slope at the bottom, so the girls had probablyrolled from there. They were more than likely injured, but they wouldhave survived it.
Theencounter with the demons, however…
Sango’sheart seemed to stop beating when they arrived. She didn’t recallever seeing such a swarm of demons, ever. At least they were allminor demons, looking like shapeless, flying snakes. All gatheredaround one spot in a disgusting nest, a sight that made her sick, even though she couldn’t yet see what they were focusing on. Shegrabbed the Hiraikotsu in her back, throwing it with a scream.
Itdidn’t make that much damage, though it definitely killed quite afew, but it made the demons pull back for a second, revealing themost surprising sight.
Thefour girls. Alive, with three of them crouched on the ground. One ofthem, on her knees, hands above her, creating a blue light thatseemed to keep the demons away— Barrier.
Duringthat split second, Inuyasha met the girl’s blue eyes.
Theworld stopped.
Then, the demons were back, cutting him from the view, and he was thrownback into reality. What had he seen in there? Strength, determination, power, but… But what the hell wasthat?
Apriestess? He’d only met three persons with spiritual powers in hislife. Kaede, Miroku, and Kikyo — his ex, who had left the villageyears ago, claiming to want “a normal life”. A life he couldn’tbe a part of, apparently.
Sangocaught the Hiraikotsu again, then glanced at him. He could always usehis Tetsusaiga, sure, but then he couldn’t be sure he wouldn’tinjure the girls. The barrier was probably already under a strongassault, he doubted it could take much more. Which meant they’dhave to finish the demons by hand.
Ittook quite some time, mostly because they just fucking kept coming, driven to the blue light like moths to a flame.
Inuyashamanaged to catch a few more glances at the girl with the blue eyes. There was nothing special about her. Dark long hair, and sure, ratherpretty, but nothing incredible. There was just somethingabouther though. Maybe he was just like the other demons, feelingfascinated by her, but even that didn’t seem quite right.
Oncethey had managed to scare the demons away, Sango ran towards thegirls, only to be harshly pushed back a couple of feet when shetouched the barrier.
“Don’tlower it, Kagome!” a girl begged.
“Yeah—They look like they’re just the same!”
Inuyashawinced at that, just a little. It was obvious they were looking athim, at his golden eyes, his white hair, his ears, and probably alsohis claws, which were now dripping with blood.
Hemet the girl’s eyes, again. He noted the absence of disgust or offear there, like she thought he couldn’t possibly be a danger, andthen the curiosity.
Herarms fell to her side, and the barrier disappeared.
Inonly seconds, Sango was next to them, helping them onto Kirara’sback despite the protests.
“Inuyasha, you need to take two of them. Kirara can’t lift them all.”
Henodded. Who did she think he was? He knew how they did it.
Easily, without a word, he lifted the girl with the blue eyes with only onearm, then grabbed one of her friend — short black hair cut in abob, looking terrified. At least, neither of them tried to push himaway. He should have given them so explanation, actually, but he wasbad at that, and they needed to be quiet. If the girl’s powerworked like a magnet for demons, they didn’t want to get any moreattention on themselves.
Whichwas why the ride home was quiet, behind the fire of Kirara’s steps, until they finally found the village’s reassuring shapes. Kirarathen disappeared back into the woods, with a friendly mewl at Sango, and Inuyasha unceremoniously dropped the girl on the ground, only forthe blue eyed girl to grab onto him almost desperately, and herealized she was balanced on only one foot.
“Sango!”he called. “Twisted ankle here, I think!”
Shenodded. “A broken arm over there. Let’s get them inside.”
“Solet me get this straight,” Inuyasha said, anger growing in hisvoice. “You followed them tohelp them?”
Theblue-eyed-girl — whose name was apparently Kagome Higurashi —fidgeted in front of him while Miroku took care of her ankle, havingthe intelligence not to cross him at the moment.
“Well,I couldn’t just leave them alone, could I?” she mumbled, avoidinghis eyes.
Hisamazement at her power was long gone, and his interest had beensomehow dampened since they had walked in. He could hear Sango’sreprimands at the other girls, who had already been taken care of,but too bad for her, they’d have to talk to her about her powers, and he was the only one available for that now.
Whichwas the nice way of saying that Sango had decided it’d be better ifhe yelled at one person instead of three.
“That’sso fucking stupid,”he spat. “You could all have died.”
Herhead snapped up. “Well we didn’t, alright? But theywould have if I hadn’t joined, am I correct?” Her eyes fell onher hands again. “Though I have no idea how I did that…”
“Aboutthat,” Miroku started calmly, “you have…”
“Youdidn’t fucking know about that though, right?” Inuyasha growled.“You put yourself in danger for no reasons! That’s stupid asshit!”
Hereyes started shining with anger. “I getthat. But we were fine.”There was a pause. “Thanks to you.” That seemed like a verypainful thing to say just then. “It’s not like Eri tripped onpurpose, though, okay? We didn’t wantthis to happen!”
Therewas tears in her voice on that last sentence, and Inuyasha felt hisentire body tense. Shit. Tears. He couldn’t deal with tears. Hereached out clumsily.
“Nah—Don’t— Just don’t do that again, ‘kay?”
Shestared at him in disbelief. “Whywould I do that again? I told you, we didn’t meantodo that!”
“MissHigurashi,” Miroku finally managed to intervene, “were you awareof your powers?”
Sheseemed taken aback by the question, and she looked down at her handsagain, opening then closing them a few times. There was nothingparticular about them. Her skin was rather pale, and it lookedsmooth, nice to the touch — where the fuck was his mind going rightnow?
“No,”she ended up saying, slowly. “I mean, my family has a shrine, but Ialways thought these were… You know… Just stories.”
Inuyashascoffed loudly, and she glared daggers at him once more.
“It’spossible that they’d never awoken before, since you had never metdemons,” Miroku explained calmly. “But now, you will need totrain to get them under control. From what Sango told me, they’restrong enough to have an effect on humans, which can be dangerous. Doyou know anyone who could do that?”
Herlower lip started trembling, and she bit it, the movement attractingInuyasha’s attention in a way he wasn’t sure he liked.
“No,”she whispered, and she sounded so defeated it made him winceuncomfortably.
“Thenyou will have to come back here,” Miroku said, almost makingInuyasha jump. “I’m sure Kaede won’t mind helping you out.”
“Hey,wait now, Miroku—”
“I’llprobably do that,” Kagome cut him off. When he turned to look ather, incredulous, she was looking at him, furious. “I get it, youthink I’m an idiot, but I still need to do that! I can’t riskhurting people— Is that really so hard to understand?”
Thattook him off guard. He hadn’t meant it like that, though if he washonest, he didn’t really want someone from outside the village tobe around and to learn their secrets. Still, the hurt in her voicegot to him more than he would have liked to. He knew he could be kindof a dick, but he didn’t want to make people feel bad.
Didn’twant to make herfeel bad.
“Well,”he mumbled, admitting defeat unusually quickly, pushing his handsdeep in his pockets, “then if it’s all settled, I guess we canlet your boyfriend in.”
Sheblinked. “My boyfriend?”
“Akid called Hojo,” Sango said from the entrance as she leanedagainst the doorframe. “He’s been really insistant about seeingyou.”
“Oh…Hojo’s not my boyfriend.”
Doesthat mean she’s free?—Hell, damn his mind and damn his hormones and damn whatever it wasabout that girl that fascinated him so.
“Well, can he come in?” Sango asked tilting her head. “You don’t haveto see him if you’re too tired.”
Shelet out a long sigh, then smiled. “No, it will be fine. Let himin.”
Inuyashashrugged. Why should he care? It was none of his business. The secondHojo came in, crying out the girl’s name, he walked out.
Obliviousto her eyes on his back.
Theyleft the next morning. It was a bit complicated, fitting all thestudents in the already full inn, but they managed to do it. Well,Sango and Miroku managed to do it, anyway. Inuyasha went to his spotin the tree at the center of the village, where he spent most of hisnights as long as the temperatures weren’t too low.
Hewatched the group boarding the bus from afar, and couldn’t help butnotice the girl, standing aside, looking around as though she waslooking for someone. It wasn’t until Sango’s Hiraikotsu hit him, making him fall from the tree, and she ran up to him — well, limpedwith the help of her crutches — that he understood what, or ratherwho, exactly she was searching for.
“Whatd’ya want?” he growled as he stood up, particularly annoyed. Itcertainly hadn’t hurt, but Sango needed to fucking stop doing that.He knew she thought it was hilarious, but it wasn’t a reason, dammit.
Sheset her clutches against a bench, then hopped to him on one foot, andhe caught her by the waist when she lost her balance, because offucking course she would have, why had she had that stupid idea, didshe really have such low survival instincts, what even went throughher—
Then, she pushed herself on her tiptoes, and, resting a hand on his cheek, she kissed him gently on the other one.
Itwas soft and… And kind. He didn’t know quite how to explain whathe’d felt, and before he knew it, she was pulling away already.
“Thankyou, Inuyasha,” she said, his name used in a surprisingly gentleway. “For saving me.”
Forthe next moment, he was just staring at her, staring in her eyes, mouth open, unable to just— you know— words. But then, she grinned.
“You’dbetter have worked on that temper of yours by the time I come back,or we’ll have a problem.”
Andagain, the moment was gone.
“LikehellI will,” he growled, but he was pretty sure he was smirking.
Shegave him a bright, honest smile and winked at him, before grabbingher clutches again and walking away quickly, hopping in the bus, which left almost immediately.
Mirokuwalked up to him, resting his arm on Inuyasha’s shoulder while thehalf-demon watched it take her away.
“ThisKagome is a really sweet girl, isn’t she my friend?”
Inuyasharolled his eyes and ignored him. He knew Miroku wanted him to be witha girl, but was there any way for him not to be so obviousabout it.
Still, for maybe the first time in his life, he’d be waiting for one ofthose stupid white buses to come back.
Note to self: stop writing one-shots that could turn into full AUs so easily.

#77?
Are you jealous?
I’m sorry if this wasn’t what you were expecting, but I just wrote an entire fic about relationship/love jealousy so you can imagine my need to switch it up. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless! Thanks for sending in a request!
——————–
The demon’s wings flapped powerfully, a small child wailing while she frantically tried to escape the large bird’s talons as she was snatched into the air. Her mother chased after the demon with no hopes of stopping it, the creature flying high into the sky as quickly as it had swooped down, screaming for the group of demon slayers to save her little girl.
“Are you fucking kidding me!?” Inuyasha cursed, following the bird demon’s trail as fast as he could. The Wind Scar would easily rip this fucker to shreds, but he was using the little girl as a shield, making Inuyasha’s sword as useless as Miroku’s staff seemed to be ninety-eight percent of the time. The half demon grunted as he kicked off from the ground, quickly jumping from tree branch to tree branch as he rose higher to get a better vantage point. He grinned confidently, the massive, silver wings of the bird not too far out of leap’s reach now. Sure, Tetsusaiga made things easy on Inuyasha, but he was more than happy to grant hand-to-hand combat.
“Inuyasha, hurry!” The monk shouted from ground below, surprisingly doing a decent job at keeping up.
“Yeah, yeah! I got it!” Inuyasha scoffed. He jumped from the edge of a thick branch, admitting more power through his muscular legs, claws at the ready to slice and dice the nasty-looking creep. Just as he was within distance, Inuyasha swung his flexed hand, but the demon pulled away, twisting its body and flinging the girl in a three-sixty loop.
It was like a slow motion play-by-play. He was so fucking close, his fingers grazing a feather or two, turning with the force of his missed attack, observing as the asshole snickered at him, and then seeing a bright, purple light stick the demon in the center of his chest. Inuyasha managed to land on his feet, stumbling only a little as he watched the demon burst from the purifying arrow’s power.
“Catch her!”
“I got her!” Kagome sprinted into view, dropping her red bow in her dash and holding her arms out in front of her, dancing forward and back as she tried to estimate the perfect position to catch the little girl. She fell back with an oof, the child safe in Kagome’s arms, eyes wide with something mixed of shock and fear as she gathered their position on the lumpy, dirt trail. Kagome giggled, sitting up and holding the girl close to let her know she was okay, rubbing the now-sore part of her butt.
A plethora of cheers erupted, village people pouring in from the left and right to surround the priestess. Inuyasha stared on, mouth slightly agape from the scene that had just taken place. The mother snagged the little girl from Kagome’s arms, two men hitched her up to a standing position, all of the villagers shouting and bathing her in attention, going on and on about how skilled she was as an archer and how they could never repay her for saving the young child. She merely smiled and laughed, telling them all it was nothing.
“Well, this is certainly different.” Miroku commented, coming to stand next to the baffled half demon. “Isn’t it usually you in the center of that?”
Inuyasha shot a glare at the monk, “Tch, lucky shot.”
“Lady Kagome! Your aim is as good as ever, I see!” Their friend beamed, smiling at the priestess as she ran over to join the two. “Looks like three years in your time really didn’t change much!”
“I was in the archery club in high school.” Kagome explained, shrugging carelessly. “The catch was where I surprised myself.”
“Lucky catch.” Inuyasha surmised, crossing his arms over his chest and huffing.
“You’ll have to forgive Inuyasha. As you well know, he’s used to being the hero.” Miroku chuckled, waving him off and walking towards the excited villagers, many of them demanding they stay for dinner.
“I am not!” He shouted after him, the monk ignoring him while greedily accepting all of the men and women’s offers of payment. “We are not staying.” He mentioned to Kagome.
“Oh, come on Inuyasha. What’s the big deal? The sun’s setting and we’re still hours away from home.”
“Yeah, and we would have been a lot closer had we not had to stop for this stupid bird guy!” He argued. Kagome rolled her brown eyes, crossing her own arms and matching the hanyou’s demeanor.
“We’ve only been here for ten minutes, Inuyasha. We’d have been half a mile down the road.” She answered flatly.
“Yeah, well that’s still closer!”
“Mhm, okay. Do you not want to stay because you aren’t the honorary hero being celebrated?” Kagome teased, cocking a brow in his direction.
“No! That’s not it at all! I just know Miroku wants to get back to the kids and- oh, don’t let this go to your head, Kagome!” Inuyasha barked.
“What’s wrong? Are you jealous?” She giggled, dragging out the last word and poking out her tongue.
Inuyasha pinched his brows together, biting back his huff that would do nothing more than prove her right, instead rolling his golden eyes and looking away from the too-happy girl. “Not jealous.”
“Mm, okay… My mistake. My shooting may not be impacted by our time apart, but my abilities to gauge your moods sure are.”
“Yeah, gloat all ya want!”
“I will! Over a nice hot meal provided by this kind village!” Kagome laughed, skipping off after Miroku.
Inuyasha stared after her, flexing his jaw as he was left to swallow his pride. He’d definitely met his match when it came to this woman, nothing had changed there.
