For @inukag-week 2024 I'm going to start off with a re-post since I'm late to finding out and didn't have time to make a new one lol guess you guys are getting my favorite one shot instead!

Day 1 theme : Yearning

set during the 3 year separation

"Jealous"

Thunder rolled in the distance as the married couple settled in for the night. “It’s fixing to storm..” Sango muttered, looking worried at the noren as she tucked the twins into bed, their identical faces completely at peace for once. Sitting back on her heels, her right hand was drawn to her pregnant belly as if by a magnet, mindlessly caressing the mound. 

Miroku sighed, setting the cast iron pot on its hook to dry. “You know how he has gotten with the rain recently.” he smiled reassuringly, trying to mask his own worry and calm his wifes. He always worried about his silver haired companion. Especially when it rained. 

The man in question stood in the center of a familiar field by an old worn well. The wind tore at his robes like desperate hands, his alabaster tresses whipping around him like a sentient being. Golden eyes, previously hidden beneath bangs, drew up towards thick black clouds just as the first drops touched the soft downy fur covering the inner cone of his canine ears, making them twitch. Those eyes hid once again, this time by copper toned lids as their owner’s chin remained pointed towards the sky, welcoming the warm torrent. 

“Kagome told me about how all the water in the world stays the same, just goes through a weird cycle and gets used again. “ He thought, embracing the drops as they got fatter and heavier, drenching him in moments. His hair and robes now clung to his body like a second skin. “Maybe..” he thought, clenching his fist. “Maybe the same rain that’s touching my face right now will find her in the future. Maybe.. maybe she’ll think of me.” It was the only thing he held on to nowadays. 

A year and a half ago, during a storm like this, Inuyasha had been reminded of the lesson. Shippo had inquired about evaporation because the tea he had set aside that morning was half empty when he returned that evening. 

“You see..” Kagome began, her teaching voice in full motion. She gestured to the first crude drawing in the dirt. It was of an ocean. “This is representing all the water in the whole world. The sun heats it up and it rises into the sky as vapors,” as she spoke, her fingers moved along the diagram. “ And those vapors build up as clouds. Once the clouds become too heavy, the condensed vapors turn into rain drops and fall back to the earth and replenish the lakes, rivers and oceans!” She had stood up then, her ebony locks dancing as she victoriously placed her fist on her hips. “So.. the water we have now is the same water in your time?” Sango had asked, reviewing the sketches. “Well.. essentially yes.” Kagome laughed, not wanting to try and explain weather patterns and other countries and wind variables. “I guess you can say that!” 

As soon as he had remembered, Inuyasha had gone outside and stood among the droplets. He had a chance to vicariously be with her. Now he stood, jealous of the rain in her time. The rain that got to touch her skin. The rain that was closer to her than his hands had been. The rain that was closer to her than her own shadow. He wished her the best that her world had to give her. It didn’t mean he didn’t wish for her to suddenly appear and tell him how much she had missed him. How she found no happiness without him by her side. How she had been as restless as he. 

So there he was, eyes closed, drenched from ear tip to toe. Maybe.. maybe some of those rain drops would carry him to her in the far off land that was her home. 

500 years later, a young High School third year ran up the daunting steps towards her home, trying to beat the rain clouds that loomed ominously above her. A crack of thunder sent shivers up her spine as she hit the top step and began to feel the warm drops on her navy colored school uniform. As she ran across the shrine grounds, the bottom fell out, completely soaking her in moments. “No!” she cried, feeling defeated in having lost the race. As she went to pass the well house she stopped, a force asking her to cease. And once she did, she closed her eyes and lifted her face to the sky, the drops touching her lips as warm as a pair she saw in her dreams. 

The rain felt like a warm hug, reaching to her soul, wrapping around her like strong tanned arms. A gentle smile played on her lips as she remembered the owners light chuckle, his deep thrumming growl, his pink tinted cheeks as her hand intertwined in his. 

“Kagome!” her mothers voice called from the porch, “Come inside, dear! You’ll catch cold! Dinner is ready! I made ramen!” With one last longing look towards the well, Kagome hurried to her home, thankful for the moment of peace in her usually restless life as she longed for the grouchy owner of a pair of eyes the color of spun gold.

I got 3 fics that I'm working on (they're nowhere near done ngl) but I'm already feeling anxious anticipating how I'm gonna go about asking someone to beta read them for me, like how do you approach someone with that intention?? How do you know someone's available for that?

Good Directions and Sweet Tea

Inuyasha bit into the pork rind, the crunch satisfying to his ears as the summer sun scorched his skin. I’m gonna need to invest in some sunscreen if this sunshine don’t go away anytime soon. Sitting in the back of his blue pick up truck, he stared out at his ranch, admiring the wild horses that had come to graze along his fenceline.

Flicking his ears, he caught the gentle purr of a sports car headed his way. Glancing down the road, he was shocked to see a cherry red convertible driving towards him with hollywood on the license plate, but what caught his attention was the beauty driving it. Who is that?

She had dark locks that blew about in the wind, the black blue shade unique to anyone around here. Her eyes were hidden behind large round sunglasses, but he could see the tiny freckles splashed across her nose as she pulled to a stop, just a few feet away from him.

He waited, watching her lick her lips before giving him a heart stopping smile and waving him over. Leaping down from the back of his truck, he hoped he didn’t appear too rough after a long morning doing chores around his place. She must think I’m redneck or somethin’ with the way I look.

“Howdy ma’am, what can I do ya for?” He asked politely, not wanting to scare the woman away.

“Hi! I’m so glad I found you!” She lifted her sunglasses, revealing a pair of chocolate eyes that he could spend the rest of his life swimming in. “I’m lost and looking for the interstate. Could you give me directions?” She sure is gorgeous.

“I’m the man for the job.” Inuyasha grinned, flexing his muscles as he leaned against her car. She blushed, her smile broadening and he wondered if he had died and gone to heaven. “Alright, so stay on this road and keep goin’ til ya get to a caution light. On the corner, there’s a lil’ country store with an old coke sign. Old Kaede runs it and she makes the best sweet tea in this region, so before ya head back to where ya goin’.”

She nodded enthusiastically, listening to his every word.

“Once ya do that, take a left and it’ll take straight back to the interstate. Ya can’t miss it.” He pointed with his thumb in the general direction. “If ya take a right, you’ll end up comin’ right back here to me.”

“Oh, thank you so much. You’ve been a big help!”

The woman quickly waved goodbye, turning her volume up, the pop music fading as she drove away. Pulling his ratted ball cap from his back pocket, Inuyasha growled. I should’ve asked her name at least. I doubt I’ll ever see her again, but it would’ve nice to know the woman I’d be dreamin’ about tonight. Fuck, I could’ve been in love. Maybe I could catch on up to her…

He knew well that his old Ford wouldn’t run her down, thinking she probably didn’t like him anyhow. She was just being polite to a complete stranger. Giving the road one last glance, he sighed as she disappeared into a cloud of dust. Deciding to eat his lunch, Inuyasha cracked open a beer as he settled back on the tailgate.

A half hour passed and before he knew it, the cherry red convertible was driving towards him once more. This heat must be playin’ tricks on me. There’s no way in hell the woman of my dreams is comin’ back to me.

He waited silently, his body tense as she turned off her engine and stepped out, revealing the perfect figure in jean cropped shorts and a simple tee shirt, the woman holding two large cups in her hands. Swallowing, he slowly rose to his feet, his amber eyes colliding with hers, his heart pounding in his chest.

“So, um, I stopped and asked Miss Kaede for her sweet tea.” She held one out for him, smiling softly. “I had this strange feeling, that something felt right and she sent me back here to you.”

“Thanks for the tea.” He laughed, knowing his neighbor probably had a plan up her sleeve. Kaede’s known for always tryin’ to set me up. “I’m Inuyasha, by the way.”

“I’m Kagome.”

“Would you like to come in?” He offered, unsure of what to say next. She nodded, biting her lip and he suddenly had the urge to kiss her. Deciding to walk her inside, figuring the kissing could later, he glanced up at the southern sky. Thank kami for good directions and sweet tea.

Inuyasha One Shot/Ficlet!

i wrote another one shot! it didn’t take nearly as long as the Wanda Maximoff/Reader one shot took (to be fair, i was attending college full time and working two part time jobs). This one shot is a little more accurate of Kagome’s and Inuyasha’s personalities relative to previous characterizations for MCU characters in my one shots.

I had a lot of fun writing this. I hope whoever reads this, enjoys it!! <3

For Fanfiction, it will be defined as: Stories that have developed a believable romance between Miroku and Sango. "Believable" is subjective, and it is up to those nominating/voting to draw their own line on that quantifier and vote their "Best". This includes canon universe and AU/AR settings.

Sugar and Spice - an InuKag coffee shop AU

What's this? An InuKag oneshot that is NOT porn? It's been ages! This fic has been 4+ years in the making (aka, collecting dust until I finally finished it today), and now, at last, I'm sharing it. In honor of 6 years since I shared the coffee shop AU headcanon list, here at last is my first "true" coffee shop AU for this fandom.

This is also officially my 100th Inuyasha ficlet that goes into my oneshot collections! I hope y'all enjoy some silly fluff! ❤

“Sugar and spice and everything nice. That’s what little girls are made of.” 

That stupid nursery rhyme, thought Kagome furiously as she jabbed at the coffee machine, was the biggest load of bull! 

At the moment, this “little girl” was made of molten lava, bubbling under the surface of the falsely tranquil mountain of her Customer Service Persona, and any second now, she was going to blow her top. 

All because of him! 

The Asshole, with short silver hair, golden eyes, perpetual frown, and absurdly adorable dog ears, came into Kagome’s workplace every Friday morning. For the past four months. And not a single occasion had passed where he remotely acted like a decent person! 

He seemed to use Coffee for the Soul (the cafe where Kagome normally adored working) as an outlet for all his personal problems. Yeah, one of those customers. 

Kagome actually considered herself somewhat an expert of dealing with those sorts; she had an uncanny talent of letting their snippiness and rude manners roll off her back like water on a duck, and smiling so sweetly and behaving with such politeness that eventually even the angriest customer either slipped away shamefaced or let their anger temporarily melt away. 

But not with him. She had no patience with The Asshole. It was simply impossible! 

Still, Kagome had a rep at Coffee for the Soul for being “the sweet barista,” so every Friday was a test of her fortitude. At first, she took it head-on, with all the enthusiasm of any wide-eyed bushy-tailed newcomer, despite already being employed there for two years. 

But then, he had snatched the cup from the counter, glared at her, and spat out, “You smell funny.” And promptly left the premises! 

Fuming, Kagome had spent the rest of her shift off-kilter, with sharp movements and incoherent mutterings under her breath, causing her coworkers’ heads to turn in surprise. From then on, Fridays became a tense battlefield of wits: the Asshole Customer vs the Slowly-Losing-Her-Cool Barista. 

“Kagome, I can take over, if you want–” her coworker and friend Sango tried offering once, but Kagome refused point blank. 

“This. Is. War!” she had snarled, pushing the buttons and slamming down utensils with such ferocity that no one dared tried to argue. 

So, every week Kagome and The Asshole had their “face-off,” with tension one could cut with a knife until he left the premises. The only blessing of that infamous customer’s regularity was that his order was forever the same: black coffee, with a shot of espresso. 

After a month of his weekly visits, it was suggested that maybe, perhaps, the baristas could already prepare his drink ahead of time. Best case scenario, he leaves Coffee for the Soul all the earlier (and lessen the damaged mood of a certain stubborn employee). Worst case scenario, he changes his order and they cut their losses. 

Kagome shot down the suggestion with a righteous fury. 

“He can wait for his stupid order just like everyone else!” she hissed at Sango. “And he can go through my suggestions and sales-pitches, too!” 

(Sango chose not to say that Kagome normally avoided the sales pitch with other customers, preferring to take the “personable” approach that generally opened them up to trying new things without her input. It was a brilliant, psychological tactic that worked most of the time, so she really did not, in fact, have to do the Sales Pitch Spiel with The Asshole.) 

And thus, Fridays always ended up the same way: 

The Asshole enters the cafe. 

Kagome greets him with a beaming smile that fools absolutely no one. 

The Asshole begins to tell his usual order.

Kagome cuts him off with a long, cheerful spiel on all the various types of drinks, additives, and specials. 

The Asshole scowls. Mutters something along the lines of “you talk too much.” 

Kagome beams with the radiance of a thousand suns. 

The Asshole mutters, “Just black coffee, with a shot of espresso.” 

Kagome: “Would you also like that with a shot of caramel, vanilla, hazelnut, nutella, chocolate, mint, or strawberry?” 

The Asshole: “Plain. Nothing else.” 

Kagome, her smile almost unnaturally wide: “Very good, sir. And would you like whipped cream, soy or whole milk?” 

The Asshole, growling slightly: “No. Just black. And espresso. Like I said a million times already.” 

Kagome, positively overflowing with the Joy of Providing Good Customer Service: “Excellent choice, sir.” Gives the same exact total amount that The Asshole pays every week. Meticulously counts back his change, all the while smiling uncannily. 

The Asshole pockets his change. Sits down. Glares at Kagome’s back (according to witnesses) as she cheerfully, painstakingly, slowly prepares his coffee before personally coming around the bar and placing it on his table with a chirpy, “Here’s one black coffee, with espresso, and no additional flavors, cream, or any interesting whatsoever! Enjoy your drink, sir!” 

The Asshole furrows his brow, downs his coffee in one gulp while glaring into Kagome’s equally fiery eyes behind her fake smile, tosses the cup, and stomps outside without a word of gratitude, the door bell jingling in his wake. 

This exchange became famous. There were variations, of course, oftentimes on The Asshole’s end, where he’d cut Kagome off faster than usual and bark at her to “stop stalling and give me my fucking coffee already.” At which point, a venomously smiling Kagome would politely tell the customer that rude language was not appropriate at this establishment and if he did not comply, she would suggest he find business elsewhere. 

(He never did. Kagome seethed about it constantly.) 

At first, Kagome’s coworkers were scared she would get a “talk” from her higher-ups, but to everyone’s astonishment, no reprimand or discipline was issued. The supposed reason? “As inappropriate as we would generally find that behavior, the customer has never filed a complaint and continues to give us business. So, we’ll let it slide this time, but expect exemplary service with the rest of our patrons.” 

(That was the spoken reason, but Sango, Miroku, and Shippo, all eyeing their normally bubbly and genuine coworker turn into a terrifying fake, condescending queen when face-to-face with the source of her wrath, suspected that the managers found it, well, entertaining.) 

Miroku was the first one to make that observation after two months of “the war.” He noted that even the other customers were positively gleeful, watching Kagome and The Asshole rather like watching boxers in a ring. Newcomers would be quickly and quietly filled in on the scoop and they’d find themselves invested in the tense face-off as well. 

“I would not be surprised if our bosses have a betting ring going around or something,” Miroku confided in Sango and Shippo while Kagome was on break. 

“That’s so unprofessional!” Sango gasped. 

“Can you imagine how bored you’d have to be with your life,” Shippo piped up thoughtfully, “to be that invested in the love lives of total strangers? Talk about pathetic.” 

(Sango and Miroku were not fooled. Shippo eagerly watched “the show” every week just like everyone else.) 

Because regardless of the rage behind Kagome’s eyes, despite the rants and ravings she subjected her coworkers to about how abominable The Asshole was, there was no denying how she was obviously, hopelessly attracted to him. 

No one told Kagome this, of course. No one dared incur her wrath any further than necessary. But her cheeks always reddened when the telltale bell rang at 9 am and he entered the cafe. She always smirked when making his drink, and always watched him leave afterwards. 

The love-hate-tension between Barista and Customer was the greatest source of entertainment anyone could ask for. 

Until one day, when a change of the routine nearly threw everything into unmitigated chaos. 

The Asshole came inside, looking uncharacteristically nervous and twitchy. Kagome primed herself for another battle, barely registering the way his usual scowl was missing and in its place was a rather pleading, puppy-eyed look. 

“One black coffee and one pumpkin spice latte, please,” he said in one go before Kagome opened her mouth. 

The morning buzz around them fell deafeningly silent. Sango froze in place of handing a customer their drink, Miroku’s hand nearly burned on the oven, and Shippo all but literally choked on his drink of water. Every single person, customer and barista, were staring at the nameless customer and a rigid Kagome. 

Kagome opened her mouth a few times like a dying fish, shook herself, and croaked out, “Repeat that one more time, please?” There was no sign of her over-the-top Customer Service persona. 

“One black coffee and one pumpkin spice latte, please and thank you,” The Asshole repeated, blushing furiously, but his tone was sincere. 

Kagome blinked. There was a ringing in her ears. He never said “please” or “thank you.” And he certainly never ordered a second drink, let alone pumpkin spice! 

Come to think of it, he was also dressed nicely. Instead of his usual red leather jacket and dirty jeans, he cleaned up rather well, with a button-up shirt and slacks, and dress shoes. Dress shoes?! Kagome’s head swam. Was he on a date? Oh gods, he was definitely on a date! 

The silence in the cafe renewed its buzz, but this time with an uptick in excitement. Everyone was wondering the same as her, gossiping delightedly over who his date was going to be, and how their beloved barista was going to “take the heartbreak.” 

Well, they had no reason to fret or fuss. Because Kagome had nothing whatsoever to care about! The Asshole may be a thorn in her side, but plenty of women had bad taste and went for those types. So what if he had a date? So what if he cleaned up way too nicely and looked devastatingly handsome, but also adorable in how nervous and shy he clearly was? So what?! 

“Your, uh, your usual is different today, hehe,” Kagome awkwardly laughed, hating herself for losing the battle. “You on a — a date or something? Haha, just kidding, I—” 

“Yeah, um,” the Asshole ran his hand through his hair, grinning bashfully, “I’m hoping she’ll…. like the gesture.” 

And then, the volcano finally erupted. 

Without a shred of fake niceness in her voice, Kagome coldly gave the total amount to her regular customer and all but threw the change into his hand without counting. She stomped over to the latte machine and started to prepping the order, her vision going red. 

Who was she?! Who was the one who took her asshole away?! 

Wait…. What? 

“Kagome…” a concerned voice broke into her reverie. “Your hand’s shaking.” 

Sango gently but firmly removed the partially-made drink from Kagome and quietly suggested that she sit in the back to “take a moment.” 

Angry tears pricking her eyes, Kagome furiously splashed cold water on her face from the sanctity of the bathroom, before gazing at her reflection. What was the deal? Why did this bother her so much? She hated The Asshole! She dubbed him “The Asshole” for good reason! He insulted her! He was always such a jerk! 

But then again, how much of that was just a bad first impression?, whispered a treacherous voice in her mind. Has he ever actually been a jerk since that first day? 

And loath she was to admit it, Kagome could not think of a singular incident. Grumpy, to be sure, blunt and ungracious, certainly, but not really an outward “asshole.” If anything, her petty behavior over the past few months outweighed his terrible first impression. 

Shame washed over Kagome. Shame, jealousy, and sadness. Such a waste…. All this time, she could have employed her actual customer service skills and had gotten to know him. Instead, she lost her chance and now he was chatting away with some pretty young thing and would probably never order his usual black coffee with espresso ever again— 

“Hey, Kagome?” Sango’s tentative voice called out, knocking on the door. “You mind coming out?” 

“Just a second,” Kagome called out, rubbing her face clean. She stepped out into the kitchen, and was promptly seized by a pair of hands. 

Before she could ask what was needed, Sango had already untied Kagome’s apron. “Sango, wha–?” 

“No time! Here, take my hairbrush and tease your hair a bit — oh never mind, I’ll do it!” 

“Sango! Pft!” Kagome blew her hair out of her face, fumbling as Sango frantically worked around her. “What are you—ouch! That’s my hair tie! What’s going—” 

“It’s a shame you’re not wearing something cuter, but it can’t be helped. After all, if he was won over by that gross cold attitude you’ve been dishing out, I’m pretty sure he’d want you even in a potato sack…” 

“Who would want me? Sango, what are you talking about?!” 

Sango paused in her hairbrushing, and stared, stunned, at the bewildered Kagome. “You really don’t know? Oh, this is even better—!” 

“Better? Know what???” 

“Just head out and see!” 

“See? What are you—- ah!” 

And with that, Kagome was tossed unceremoniously from the back, and out onto the “floor,” or customer area of the cafe. Spluttering, she flipped her hair out of her face and looked around. The Asshole was standing nervously at his usual table, clutching his two drinks. Upon noticing her arrival, he walked over, looking for all the world like a lovestruck schoolboy about to ask out his crush. 

Kagome blinked, realizing he was not looking over her shoulder, but rather squarely at her, into her eyes. Heat rose on her face. “Wh-what…. Do you have something to say?” Or are you just going to be rude again and break my heart? The voice said, unbidden, in her mind. 

The Asshole reached out and offered one of his drinks. It was a pumpkin spice latte. 

“Let’s start over. My name is Inuyasha, I’ve liked you for months, and thought we’d have a chat over some coffee.” His face was burning red, and his ears lowered low on his head, but his eyes remained resolutely fixed on hers. 

Sharp inhales scattered around them. The entire cafe seemed to have collectively held their breath. 

Kagome stared blankly. Then blinked. “Come again?” 

Inuyasha took a shaky breath and began: “My name is Inuyasha—” 

“No, no, I heard you. I just…. I don’t believe it.” 

“Why doncha sit down and then maybe you'll listen to me instead of just assuming?” 

There it was. That was her beloved Asshole. Suddenly, Kagome grinned happily and took the proffered drink. 

“A pleasure to meet you, Inuyasha. My name is Kagome, and, um,” she blushed so hard she was fairly certain steam was coming off the top of her head, “I’ve… liked you for months, too.” 

“I FUCKING KNEW IT! Cough up, Shippo! You owe me $20!” 

Inuyasha and Kagome both jumped a foot in the air and spun around. Half of the cafe was applauding, the other half harassing each other for exchanges of —- 

“You placed bets on us?!” Kagome lamented to an excitable Sango who was counting her winnings to Miroku, while Shippo sulked. 

“Well, I thought it was awful at first,” Sango said nonchalantly, “but I confess, I couldn’t resist after today!” 

Kagome turned and looked Inuyasha in the eye. They both started laughing and sat down, trying to ignore the chaos around them. 

“Oh by the way,” Kagome said, taking a sip of her latte, “how did you know to order pumpkin spice?” 

“I can smell it on you. The day we met, you….. smelled so much like pumpkin and vanilla, it was overwhelming. I, er, thought you smelled rather nice.” 

“That’s not remotely what that sounded like,” Kagome said, raising an eyebrow. 

Inuyasha grinned, looking slightly abashed. “I have a bad habit of putting my foot in my mouth. And I can be awfully stubborn. Betcha you know what that’s like.” 

Kagome’s face burned even hotter and she sipped her drink. “Well, girls are made of sugar and spice, you know,” she said cheekily.

A new - fluffy, I swear - oneshot! Canon-divergent from episode 18 of the Final Act, because we never got to see what happened after Kagome's family returned home (other than Inuyasha looking ready to spit nails in the background)

Summary:  Kagome thought she’d missed her chance. Resurrected former girlfriends, a maniac coming out of hiding, a busted gemstone, an overzealous wolf demon, and a group of friends that were too nosy for their own good had a way of making it hard to get time alone.

an inukag oneshot

“So are you thinking granite or marble?” was the question that came through the computer. 

“Let’s go with granite for the premium model, so we can use similar slate colors for the economy ones.” Inuyasha replied.

“Sounds good, boss.”

Inuyasha rolled his eyes. Technically he was the boss and head of his own architectural firm, but only because he didn’t want to spend time working for someone else. He wanted to see his own designs brought to life.

He was pretty good at it too. His current project was designing nice elegant homes that could be built with a range in budget by substituting some of the more expensive materials for more reasonably priced ones. Inuyasha really liked this project because it added the challenge of appealing to a variety of tastes and making those looks attainable to everyone. He liked the idea of his work being accessible to everyone, not just those that could pay top dollar for it.

“So what are we thinking for roofing options?” a consultant asked.

“I’d like to hear your ideas,” Inuyasha responded. Usually he’d go into the office, but he enjoyed the flexibility of working from the comfort of his own home.

His home was another marvel of his design. In fact, he’d drawn up the plans as an anniversary gift for Kagome when they were dating. Now, a few years later, they were happily married and pleasantly expecting. Inuyasha couldn’t help but think he was living his dream.

The meeting droned on for a few more minutes before Inuyasha was caught off guard by… the scent of tears?

“Hey, I’m gonna have to jump off the call. Let’s reconnect tomorrow on those roofing options.” After successfully excusing himself from his job, the hanyou got up and started sniffing after his wife.

“Kagome?” he called out, making his way up the stairs. He wondered what triggered her tears today. At this stage in her pregnancy, she was prone to more emotional outbursts. A few days ago she cried because she saw a ladybug.

“Kagome? Where are you, babe?” When Inuyasha got to the second floor he immediately knew where she was. When he got to the entrance of their bedroom he found her curled up on the bed, tears in full force. He approached with care, taking up a spot right next to his wife.  “Kagome? Baby, tell me what’s going on?”

Slowly, Kagome rolled her head up to look at him, fresh tears staining her puffy pink face. Kagome inhaled deeply before stating “I was watching the animal show and two of the baby elephants were sick!!!” The tears were mounting to sobs now. “I got so scared, what if they died? Then I just started crying and I couldn’t stop it.”

Ahh. So her beloved animal show was now an enemy in his household. Inuyasha nodded in understanding. He would hate it if anything he used for comfort became the very thing he needed refuge from. Well, he couldn’t do anything about the elephants but he knew how to help his wife.

Inuyasha lifted her curled form into his lap to smother her with snuggles until she could calm down. Fortunately, proximity to her loving husband seemed like just what Kagome needed. She took deep breaths as her tears subsided, uncurling herself in Inuyasha’s arms. As her breathing evened out, she took an opportunity to sniff at his shirt, letting his comforting scent wash over her. 

“What are you doing?” Kagome heard from somewhere above her. She paused then looked up Inuyasha hesitantly.

“You know, inuhanyou aren’t the only ones that find nice scents comforting and enjoyable.” The pout that settled on her lips after she spoke, Inuyasha thought, was adorable. In fact, looking at Kagome, he saw what amounted to his whole universe. His wife and best friend, pregnant with their first child. He couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.

“Well, as long as it helps you feel better,” Inuyasha said, stroking her cheek gently with his thumb. “How about we order some food and watch some animal shows where there’s no risk of death?”

Kagome cocked her head at him. “How will we know that?”

“Easy, we’ll just rewatch our favourite episodes. We added them to our list, remember? Besides, I’m sure it's been a while since we’ve seen some of these episodes.”

That sounded good to Kagome. “Plus now, if any animal gets sick in the show, you’ll be here to watch it with me. You can fast forward and look while I close my eyes.”

Inuyasha chuckled at that. The animal shows really presented the whole circle of life, but Kagome was really fond of animals and she enjoyed learning about them. Regardless, he didn’t mind giving up his afternoon of work to spend time cuddling with his wife. This was an upgrade.

“Sure babe, whatever you want. Now, what should we eat?”

The story you're proudest of: this changes often depending on my mood but currently im pretty fond of this royai wip titled "hide her". its a pretty wild fic; Riza, no longer enlisted, gets into some pretty serious trouble and Roy, promoted to General, has to help conceal her crimes and try to get her back on her feet. i've been working on it frequently and i hope to someday post it ^^

Your story that's gotten the most love online: i havent actually posted any stories online in recent years, but if i remember correctly, when i was about 15 i posted a short royai series onto wattpad. i dont remember the plot or even the account name i had, but i know it had like 2k votes lol. ill try to find it but im pretty sure the account is lost now due to wattpad's purging of mature works or wtv.

Tease a current WIP or idea you're working on: since i posted about royai kid today here's a lil sumn sumn ^_^

He turned back to the child in his arms to do the same, gently brushing a finger against the baby's cheek; cold, but soft, tender. So incredibly fragile. Those soft brown eyes gazed up at him in disorientation, and then the baby's face puckered up. At the first cry, he'd have thought something electrocuted her, the way his wife jolted up in her bed. Looking at her gave way to a startling feeling; Riza's entire face was alarmed as she grabbed tightly onto his sleeve, and her eyes frantically examined the baby in his arms. Defensive, alert. Scared. She had never looked at him like that before. It was just for a moment, but that reaction still shook him to his core. Her face softened when she realized there was no danger, but that hard, guarded emotion remained in her eyes. "H…he's probably just hungry," she said in an even tone. "Here, I'll take him." Roy was too stunned to do anything else but obediently pass the baby over to her. Riza relaxed almost immediately when the baby was back in her arms, and she raised her shirt to begin breastfeeding. Why did you look at me like that? The question didn't form at his mouth, but it haunted him.

“Inuyasha?”

His eyes widened and his heart stopped, and he peered over the edge of his tree branch into hazy blue eyes made brighter by her soft blush.

He gulped when he noticed what she was wearing- a simple yukata that had once been Sango’s, just one more sign that today had not been a dream.

She was back.

And she was staying.

Carefully he slid from his perch and landed in front of her with a soft thud as his feet hit the ground, and she smiled, her heart fluttering nervously in her chest.

“H-hi.” She said, and he finally felt his gasping awe and aching disbelief slam into his heart all at once.

From the minute he’d pulled her from the well, they’d been swept up in a whirlwind of reunions.

Shippo, Sango, Miroku, the twins, the new baby, Kaede, Kirara, and every last blasted villager took up every spare second as he took a step back and allowed to her bask in the love and relief of everyone else at her return while he tried to keep his feet on the ground and his head out of the clouds.

He’d hovered like a shadow, keeping her in his sights but giving her space, half scared to stake a claim on her time lest the illusion of her presence shatter and prove he was alone again, and then he’d snuck away when new clothing was passed her way and she slipped inside to change.

But now it was dark.

And now she was here.

And now they were alone.

And gods, she was here.

His breath left him in a single whoosh of air, and he placed his hand over his wildly beating heart as she stepped closer, her scent flooding his nose, finally not diluted by the smell of everyone else.

“Inuyasha… are you alright?” She asked, and he nodded, unable to form or find a word to even inadequately express what he was feeling and thinking.

She was here.

She was here.

“Kagome…” he forced out, blushing at his incoherence, silently raging that all the times he’d hid in the tree tops to practice what he’d say to her when she returned (when, not if) were for nothing, but she smiled again and took another step.

She was so close now her breath brushed against the skin of his neck, and he could see clearly the delicate wash of pink spreading across the bridge of her nose.

“I thought we’d never get a moment alone.” She whispered, averting her eyes as she gripped the length of his sleeve and thumbed the fire rat fabric, grinning in remembrance as she reacquainted herself.

“Oh?” He choked out, a thousand different lines he’d crafted and rehearsed spinning round and round inside his skull and then spilling out of ears, scattering across the forest floor and under leaves and dirt and sticks.

He’d never find them again if his life depended on it.

“But I’m happy we did.”

“Y-yeah?” He was stuttering now and dammit this was the one time he wanted to have the words, the ones she deserved, the ones he’d never been able to say before but knew she would want, especially after all this time.

“I missed you,” she sighed, and she leaned forward, resting her head right over his heart.

“I… I uh… Um. Kagome, I-“

“Will you just old me?”

His jaw clicked shut and his arms wrapped around her snug and strong, a means of both affection and protection, and he sighed in relief that she’d given something tangible to do instead of scrambling to explain these things he felt so strongly but just couldn’t pin down long enough to explain.

She lived right there in the heart she snuggled against, she’d rooted there and bloomed and filled all the cracks and gaps that life had left there, until the emptiness was gone and he could just breathe and just be.

That was her.

That was Kagome.

But saying it out-loud made it seem so small, so paltry, reducing it to something palm sized when it was bigger than the goshinboku in his time or hers.

And so he hurried his face in her hair and wrapped his arms even tighter around her.

“Kagome.” He sighed, releasing even more tension and disbelief, even more of the dark nightmares that plagued him with promises of centuries alone as he waited- maybe even in vain- to get back to her side.

That wouldn’t happen, now.

“Kagome I… I have a hut.” His face burned, and he tightened his hold when she tried to pull back to see him.

If he was going to communicate this much, he would not be able to look her in the eye when he did it.

“You do?”

“Yeah. I do. I… will you… if you like… we can-“

“Can I live there with you?” She asked, and he pinched his eyes closed in both relief and shame.

She was not supposed to be taking the lead here. He was supposed to have scraped up enough courage and determination to plow through a proposal so she knew without a doubt what he wanted and needed from her.

But as usual he stuttered and stumbled, and as usual she reached between the bluster to find his true heart.

“Yeah that’s… what I’m trying to ask you.”

She giggled, but her humor didn’t sting.

Instead he grinned and finally pulled away, looking down at her upturned face as she remained in the circle of his arms. “Gods I missed you, too.” He said, his tongue finally loosened now that the major talking point was out of the way.

“You did?”

“Of course I did. Did you really think I wouldn’t?”

“No. I didn’t think that. But I’m glad I wasn’t wrong.”

“Feh. Silly woman,” he nuzzled into the hair that brushed across her forehead, and she sagged into him, closing her eyes and shocking him still with a soft kiss on his jaw.

He stiffened, and when he looked down at her again her lids were half closed and her blush had deepened.

“Inuyasha, how much did you miss me?” She whispered, and he once more felt his heart race and his tongue turn to lead.

“Uh… how much? Uh, it was-“

“Will you show me?” She asked, pushing up on her tip toes, her eyes sliding more firmly closed, and he decided to once more take the bone she was throwing him.

“Hell yeah I will,” he replied, and with no more hesitation he met her waiting lips with his own.

Like rushing headlong into battle, he set out to conquer her with a kiss that would lay his heart out plainly before her, spelling out every last corner dedicated to her and all the wonderful things she’d been to him since the moment his eyes had opened on that tree and she’d been standing in front of him.

His hands swept up her back until they tangled in her hair, and she stood up even higher on her toes, sealing their mouths more firmly together, gripping the front of his clothes and whimpering with want as her scent surged and her heart tried to burst.

His tried to burst, too.

She tugged him forward, spinning them so that her back rested against the Goshinboku, and he caged her in, a growl building in his throat that vibrated through his chest and into hers.

She whimpered again, pressing herself against him, wrapping her arms around his neck to keep him near, and he broke the kiss despite her whine of protest, resting his forehead against hers and gasping for breath.

“Do we have to stop?”

“Probably, it’s getting late, and we are outside.” He said, the reality of the roughness of tree bark or grit of dirt pouring over him like a bucket of cold water.

“Then take me inside.” She purred, voice warm and alluring, and his eyes widened.

He could take her inside.

That was something he could do now.

And everyone had been giving him knowing looks all evening.

And Miroku had gestured in the direction of his house and waggled his brows like the lecher he was.

And Sango had stopped long enough to remind him of the bundle of hand me down dishes and cloths he absolutely needed to come get from her at first light.

And he decidedly did not want to walk her back into the village and spend his first night with her back in his era trying to sleep alone and fend off the nightmares that would convince him he’d been dreaming.

“Okay. Then let’s go home, Kagome.”

Her answering smile was so bright she lit the night forest, and the smell of pure elation was followed by the hint of sweet and salt as tears filmed over her eyes.

She threaded her fingers through his and brushed a kiss across his cheek, fitting herself against his side so perfectly, as if they’d been carved from two halves of one stone.

“Yes. Let’s go home.”

Roulette Fanart Category for Term 2 2024 will be Best Underappreciated Fanart. This is defined as: An Art piece with under 100 notes or retweets, designed to highlight some of the newer or lesser known artists.

Roulette Romance Category for Term 2 2024 will be Best InuParents Romance. This will be a category for both Fanart and Fanfiction.

For Fanfiction, it will be defined as: Stories that have developed a believable romance between Inu no Taisho and Izayoi (aka Inuyasha's parents). "Believable" is subjective, and it is up to those nominating/voting to draw their own line on that quantifier and vote their "Best". This includes canon universe and AU/AR settings.

For Fanart, it will be defined as: Any romantic depiction of Inu no Taisho and Izayoi (aka Inuyasha's parents).

The original Best Romance categories will remain, so all other pairings, including LGBTQ+, can be nominated into that category. All other pairings will be up for voting again next term.

We will officially be back in full swing May 1st! We will still be around in case you have questions or concerns, but feel free to take this time to read new fanfiction and find new fanart. We strongly encourage everyone to review/comment/reblog so to spread the love of this fandom around.
