Officer Black Belt / 무도실무관 (2024) | Kim Woo-bin as Lee Jung-do
"Three months ago I didn't even know what an ankle monitor was. But I know everything now. In fact, I know too much. I cannot forget what I've learned."
SUMMARY: A man who is only interested in the ‘fun’ life has to offer finds a sense of duty and responsibility as a parole officer.
THIS MOVIE HAS EVERYTHING: E-sports, gratuitous servings of bbq, bad dye jobs, friend chicken deliveries, friendship, ingenuity, brazen parolees, stabbings, tasers, drones, brave citizen awards, and supportive dads.
HOT TAKE: I'm glad this was a movie and not a series because the main character's motivations and depth is woefully simplistic. Kim Woo Bin is good at being an easy-going guy, but this movie focused almost solely on him being tall and adequately nimble.
Kim Sung Kyun was great as always, balancing his perfected brand of kindness, duty, and decisiveness that we've come to love about him.
My 2000s heart was enamored with the production staff choosing a LESS THAN JAKE song as to play over the introductory montage sequence. A SKA song in a kdrama!
OH! The biggest surprise of this entire film was that Ji Jin Hee's cameo at the very end as the President. Does this mean that this movie takes place in the same cinematic universe as 'Designated Survivor: 60 Days?'

officer black belt is making kim woobin popular and even though i should be happy i am NOT 💜 been my man since the heirs and NOW yall wanna come through smh
I think Officer Black Belt would have had a bigger impact on me had it been a drama instead of a movie. It felt a bit rushed and I wasn't as invested as I could have been.
