We’re all fighting a battle
I’ve had this drafted for a while, but I was unsure as to whether I was going to post this. However, with so much talk about mental health on social media and the news, I thought that it was about time that I talked about my own. But first, I’d like to thank @allaboutchoices for giving me the courage to open up about my own struggles.
To those that know me, I’m usually a very happy, bubbly character; I’m normally smiling, and find joy in making those around me laugh. However, I’d be lying if I said that was always the case. Before I start, I’d like to say that I’m alright now; I have a few things going on, but I’m otherwise okay. I’m not always open about how I’m feeling, both with friends and family, but I know first hand how bad it is to bottle things up, and seeing those I cherish do the same hurts; I am a hypocrite, and I admit that. I go on about how it’s not healthy to hide how you are feeling from those that are closest to you, and yet I do the same. But I’m not going to do that anymore, hence why I am writing this now.
As most of you know, I graduated from University last year; it was an amazing experience, and though I tell people that I don’t miss my it, I kinda do. I met the most amazing people in my first year, and after the wonderful time I had, I thought that I would enjoy the rest of my time there.
That was until third year.
During the summer (before I went back in September), a relative of mine got sick. He was in and out of hospital, and though I have handled something like this before, I found it extremely difficult to deal with. I was constantly worried that something bad was going to happen, and though I’m sad to say that it did, I had hope that I was overthinking things. In October of that year, I started a work placement through university; the staff there were amazing, and the place was simply beautiful, but after a couple of weeks, things started going downhill.
I was starting to battle with my own self-doubt, and found myself making mistakes that I would never usually make. During said time, my relative was rushed back into hospital with a serious illness, and it all became too much. I started failing my placement, and my self-doubt got a lot worse. I started believing that I wasn’t good enough and that things were never going to get better. I began to dread leaving for placement in the morning, and often found myself close to tears when I was walking to the bus station afterwards. My grades for placement started slipping further, and a tutor from my university came to visit me. He told me of his concerns, and I made him aware as to what was going on outside of University. He was sympathetic, and made a note that this may have an impact on my performance during this placement. I felt, at that moment, that I was going to be okay, and that things were going to get better.
But boyyy was I wrong.
Another week passed, and their concerns grew; I was failing more than before, and they were unsure as to how they were able to support me. I started feeling really stressed out, and I can remember walking to the bus station one night and texting my mum telling her that I couldn’t do this anymore. I told her that I was tired, and that I just wanted to get home as I was close to tears (I don’t like crying in public, so I thought that telling my mum how I felt would relieve me of at least some of the upset) - I was wrong on so many levels. She did manage to cheer me up a little - by promising that there was a big hug waiting for me at home and that I could choose a film for us all to watch together that night - and I felt a little better. But when I read about how well everyone else was doing on their placements, I just felt awful. I cried myself to sleep nearly every night for weeks.
That same night, whilst I was waiting for the bus, I had a phone call from my dad. Now, my dad and I are incredibly close - our relationship mainly being based on seeing who can insult the other more (in a banter kind of way, not actually offending one another). I’ve been open with him about a lot, as well as my mum, but the conversation we had was so different to the ones that we normally have that I was genuinely shocked. There was no joking or sarcastic comments; it was as serious as they come. He was sat in the car, and my mum had told him what had happened and what I had said, so whilst my mum was in a shop, he decided to ring me and ask if I was alright. I filled him in a little bit, but in the end I ended up breaking down.
I broke down at the bus station... in front of people... and I hated it.
He reassured me about everything, and told me that he knew in his heart that if anyone could overcome something like this, it was me; I had never had this kind of conversation with him before, probably because I’d never needed it, but it just shocked me that anyone thought that about me (the self-doubt had practically made me feel worthless, to the point that I told my mum that I’d failed them).
Until then, I’d never had any issues with my mental health, but in that moment, I realised that no one was invincible... not even me. I wanted to pass my placement; I wanted to make others proud, but I knew that my parents would want me to do what was best for me and my mental health.
So I did.
I decided to pull out of placement.
At the time, I felt awful about it; I had let my struggles win, and I felt as though I wouldn’t be able to bounce back from this. But, when I tell you that ending my placement was the best choice for me, I’m telling the truth. In the short few months after, though I was knocked back by a bereavement, I managed to pull it off; my grades improved dramatically, and I managed to pass my resit work placement with a higher grade then ever before. I graduated in the summer with the rest of my university chums, and I was so proud when I got the email to say that I’d passed my course that I cried.
I’m not posting this for sympathy, but rather in the hope that I can encourage others to be more open about their struggles. Everyone is dealing with something, and though you may seem as if the world is against you or that you can’t be open about how you’re feeling... there is always someone out there that will listen to you. This has been sitting in my draft box for so long, and I really wasn’t sure about sharing this here, but if you get anything from this, I hope it’s the confidence to share how you are feeling, be it with a professional or a friend. No one is ever truly alone, and it’s about time that people are shown that it’s okay to talk about your mental health. Yes, it can feel daunting, but once you’ve got it off of your chest... it’s like a weight has been lifted off of your shoulders.
Anyway, I really do appreciate it if you have read this to the end... and if any of you are struggling with anything, please know that there are always people out there to help and support you through the dark times, no matter what it may be.

IMVU: NUMBER ONE 3D CHAT OR NUMBER ONE CHEAT?
Let me begin this article by saying that I was very hesitant to write it. Mainly because this is not what Reality Check does. But after talking extensively with the subject and doing some further investigation, it intrigued me enough to tackle it.
Let us begin with some context, the subject of the article is about an IMVU user named YukuS, age 35.
For those who do not know what IMVU is, IMVU Inc., is an online metaverse and social game. IMVU was founded in 2004 and was originally backed by venture investors Menlo Ventures, AllegisCyber Capital, Bridgescale Partners, and Best Buy Capital. IMVU members use 3D avatars to meet new people, chat, create, and play games.
It was apparently one of the foundations of 3D chat much like Second life which came after it.
Sixteen years later it is still the number one 3D App on the market.
Now that we know who IMVU is, let me introduce YukuS.
YukuS (her username) became a member of IMVU in 2006. A couple of months later she became what is called a developer.
A developer on IMVU is someone who creates content for other members to use. This can be clothing, pets, apartments, scenery, you name it. When other users create this content, developers get credit which can be used to buy content on IMVU, music, and even exchanged for actual cash.
YukuS had created a substantial amount of content, and by her omission accumulated a substantial amount of credit (by her estimate over one million). She also forged various friendships over the years. From college to her mid-twenties she was an avid user of the IMVU platform.
But like all things, real life stepped in. YukuS got a real job and took part in the real world. IMVU had to take a backseat. But from time to time as she explained it, YukuS would go on and say hi to old friends, make new ones, and then use her years of hard earned credits from content she painstakingly created to go and purchase other content for her avatar.
This is the part of the story where we come to the plot.
YukuS like many of us found herself confined to her home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, like many of us, she decided to take this time of confinement to dive back into IMVU. Only there was a problem.
YukuS logged on to find out that her account was restricted.
She had access to log into her account and use her old items, she could communicate with old friends and accept requests from new ones, but she no longer had access to use the over million dollars credits she accumulated, even though she received notifications that her items were still being purchased from users.
She also could not develop new content, which meant she could not upload the new line of products she had created for the last six months.
The reason for the restriction, a missed email requested verification of her email account due to not hearing from her for an allotted time.
YukuS answered the email hoping it would solve the issue. It did not.
She took the next step in reaching out to customer service creating a ticket (IMVU case #03332021) in hopes that they could assist her with the issue. In IMVU’s defense, they like many other companies currently have a reduced staff due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The customer support person she spoke to was named Glenn.
From her explanation, he asked her several questions to verify that she was the owner of the account which she answered. To her admission, one or two of the questions she did not remember due to it being over a decade since she opened the account.
After Glenn informed her that she missed some questions, his next request was for YukuS to submit a picture of herself holding up her government ID for verification in order to reinstate her account.
This made YukuS extremely uncomfortable, and she refused to do so.
Objectively speaking in the age of digital identity theft, I am inclined to agree with YukuS’s decision. It is a bit of an extreme request especially for a 3D social media platform. YukuS decided to do the alternative, which was send a screen shot of her email account showing that her account was still active and still getting emails from IMVU which also included purchases made by users.
Here we now come to the climax of this tale.
On October 17th, 2020 when YukuS attempted to log into her account, she was unable to. Thinking that she forgot her password she did a reset, except it was not allowing her to log in via her username but her email address.
Finally, able to log in she was in shock and horror (her words) to find that her account was no more. Instead YukuS’s profile of a 35-year-old female originally from New York, USA was replaced by a profile named awe2, a 26-year-old female from Indonesia.
As she researched further, her account was disabled, her content removed from the site, her over one million credits was gone along with items she had purchased over the years. She also no longer had contact with her many friends on IMVU.
By now you are probably saying to yourself, “So what is the big deal, she lost her account. It sucks but it’s not the end of the world.”
The problem is that for someone like YukuS, it is a big deal, it is a huge big deal.
YukuS is a young woman who suffers from a series of mental issues, she needs to take medication and see a professional in order to deal with these issues, and a 3D platform such as IMVU was an outlet that allowed her to deal with those issues.
The reason why I am writing about this is because I know YukuS, she is a friend of mine, and on October 17th, 2020 I had to talk a mentally traumatized thirty-five year old woman reduced to a sobbing child off a fucking ledge in the middle of the worse pandemic in the history of this country where isolation is key.
So as much as I am attempting to be objective with this article, I am a little bit pissed off as I write it.
I am assuming that like everyone else IMVU is supposed to be there for its patrons.
So, what happened?
Why did it fail to be there for YukuS?
Delay in communication is understandable, everyone all over the world are in uncharted waters in regard to this pandemic.
But why the hell would you delete a fourteen-year-old account of one of your developers that housed over one million credits that she earned?
Why would you do this in the middle of a pandemic where social distancing is key, and citizens are urged to stay inside? Where your platform is one of the key platforms of communication to the outside world for people like YukuS?
I never got into the whole 3D avatar platform thing; I have no interest of talking to a girl avatar controlled by a fat guy in his momma’s basement. Nor do I wish to be asked to go onto another chat so I can be coaxed to show my tits (Looking at you Second Life).
The only avatar I was happy to own is my Pokémon GO trainer avatar. Been trying to catch them all since 2014.
As I write this article, I began to realize why I decided to take it on.
I found the Reality Check.
In this time of uncertainty, where we are apart from our loved ones, it is extremely important to try and connect with them, especially with those with mental health issues. Because as much as companies like IMVU, celebrities, and politicians are there for you, they really are not and cannot be.
For all those mentioned, their main priority is to protect their bottom line, their image, or both.
If we’re all going to make it through this, it is our job to take care of the ones we love, it’s our job to pick up the phone, send a text, or do a video chat with the people we care about in our lives, to make sure that they are okay, and will be okay when this all ends.
IMVU from what I can tell failed YukuS in her most fragile moment. The cost for me was over one hundred and forty dollars to Uber Eats sending her wine and Chinese take out so that we can eat and drink together over video chat.
We talked for hours until the wine was done, and our eyes got heavy, but it was worth it.
Later in the afternoon before I wrote this article, I checked in with YukuS.
She will not delete the IMVU app in hopes that someone from IMVU will contact her and fix the damage that was done, but I got her to open a Pokémon GO account.
It will not replace the years of hard work she put into IMVU, but I think she will have more fun especially once the isolation mandate is lifted. Also, with the remote raid passes coming out, she will have a lot of fun getting some shinies and legendries.
To remain objective, I humbly invite IMVU to respond to this article. I and hopefully many others including their current customers would love to hear their side of this story.
Also, YukuS has given me permission to post images of her email to showing only her IMVU activity to confirm that everything in this article is accurate (SEE BELOW).
This has been another Reality Check.

Her Favorite Time of Day
Pairing: Tony Stark x Pepper Potts (Established Couple) Word Count: 1,717 words Request: Nope! Warnings: It's a lil angsty, but it's really fluff
Summary: After a long day of working at Stark Industries, Pepper Potts looks forward to one of the rare times within her workday where she gets to see Tony within the office. A bit of loving closeness is of course to ensue.
A/N: I imagine this takes place during somewhere between Iron Man 2 and Infinity War ( I know some kind of gap! xD ) I totally welcome feedback as this is my first time writing a non-Reader centered work :) I recently got into Pepperony, and even though I initially wrote this as a Reader / Anyone, I saw the potential for some Pepper / Tony and went for it!
ALSO: I I'll posted this over on Ao3! ( Here! )
ENJOY! <3
Could time go any slower?
Virginia "Pepper" Potts thought to herself as she watched the analog wall clock slowly tick, tick, tick away of every minute left within the hour. Time seemed to be moving at an astonishingly glacier pace, when all she wanted to do was see Tony, head home, kick back, and relax. The day itself had been a taxing one with all the newfound assignments that had found their way onto her desk and with merely an hour left before the end of her workday, she couldn't possibly find the motivation or drive to give a damn about what was in front of her.
Nevertheless, she pushed on, forcing herself to type each word that followed the next within her report on the recent spending trends of Stark Industries, typing as fast as she could with her eyes trained on that damned clock. She started to watch as literally at 4:59 PM as the clock ticked it's final one, a feel of slowed time waved over her as it felt like Father Time himself was teasing her. Thankfully, he knew mercy, as 5 PM hit right on the dot. With relief, Pepper slumped forward letting her forehead land on the keyboard, adding an space after space after space to her document, and gave out a long awaited sigh.
Even with the hustle and bustle of the office during the day, it was always interesting to hear how right at the end the office seemed to be renewed with a new breath of life as everyone made their getaway. A woman in the office next to Pepper's would quickly pack her lunch and her personal things before heading off to speak with her friend down on the 1st floor. The man overseeing the mailroom would actually lean back and watch as everyone crowded the way home, waiting the 5 or so minutes for it to thin out before even lifting a finger to do the same, but Pepper? Pepper knew this was the time to get her things and head upstairs towards the 3rd floor offices to see her Mr. Stark. This was really one of the few times Pepper even got to see him during the day, since with her now being the one in charge, Tony usually had a lot more time to do what what he felt was more deserving of his time. But, nevertheless, each time she saw him within the office, it was always a nice time to be had.
Pepper waited as the halls filled with gossip, laughter, and the hurried sounds of dress shoes and heels hitting the grey tiled floors before making her way towards the back stairwell to make her ascension. The clacking of her heels on the concrete steps always reminded her of the taunting sound of that analog clock, but she endured it to maintain her professional style. Soon, she accessed the 3rd floor offices with a beep of her keycard, and as she entered she was much like the idle rock that rested within a bustling creek. The offices poured out with staff and clients as they too longed for home, heading towards the lower office floors to make their weekend escape. The scene was much like going against the tide, as Pepper passed through, sliding and weaving, until she finally came to stand at the doorway of one of the glass walled conference rooms.
And there Tony sat.
For the second time today, she saw him, sitting at the head of a glass conference table with a lovely backdrop of Manhattan, hand on his forehead, and phone in hand. He looked as well kept and professionally dressed as he did when he greeted her in her office this morning, but seemed just as tired with the day as she was, with his day being filled with an endless stream of meetings that could have literally been an email. His surprisng weariness made her smile sometimes, just knowing how hard he worked to get where he was and how even at his weakest he still wanted to going. Pepper tilted her head as she just watched him there, taking on his phone, and slowly made her way over to his side. She had grown skilled at muffling the sound of her footsteps on the carpeted floors, and nearly startled him once she spoke up.
"Rough day?" She teased as Tony whipped his head up from his phone, lifting his head from his hand.
"Oh! Hey, Pep," Tony's eyes lit up as he saw her visage. Her presence had always done that, "Yes... It has and I can confidently say 100% certainty... that I don't miss this at all," He chuckled as he leaned back and sighed, "A 3 hour meeting to go over why you shouldn't try unsupervised tests with older versions of the Arc Reactor tend to do that." He scoffed as he reached over for one of the side chairs and pulled it over beside him for her to sit down. "But enough about that stuff, I already talk to you about that every day. How was your day?"
Pepper smiled as he presented her with this throne chair at his side, and sat beside him, legs crossed and head leaning on his shoulder as he wrapped an arm around her. You two never worried about "office etiquette" after work hours or when the office was as empty as it was now, nor did Tony actually even care. It was only 5:15 PM and the office floor was as quiet as a library on a Friday night, though the mere presence of the CEO and the familial founder in the space space can do that, too.
"It was alright, just more of the same thing." Pepper cuddled her face into his black blazer jacket. It smelled of his cologne, a deep calming scent of rain near a woodsy cabin within the midst of Fall, crisp with October spices, and a hint of oil and his own natural scent. It always made her feel so relaxed and it was a truth that he knew very well. She already knew once her head hit his shoulder that he was wearing quite the smirk. She soon felt as his fingers curled around her hip and slowly kneaded at her side to relax her. A soft sigh slipped past her lips, and her breath had tickled at his neck only slightly. It was quickly apparent with the tension she felt from his fingers pushing into her skin and the sudden clearing of his throat. Pepper stifled a giggle as Tony tried to keep his eyes fixated on his phone then, not wanting to make a deal of it.
She too then looked to his phone, seeing that even now, 30 minutes after the workday had ended, Tony was still looking at notes about needed materials and previous tests and results he had saved about his suits. It only made her laugh as she moved her hand to his thigh and patted him there.
"What?" Tony asked, sightly moving his head to look over at her.
"You never cease to amaze me - Or stop working." Pepper moved her arms to wrap around him, propping your chin on him as she looked up to meet his gaze.
The locking of their eyes on one another only fermented the adoration they both shared for one another, and she felt it he pulled her in closer to his side of his chair. Tony moved to put his phone on the table softly, and reached for her chin, pulling Pepper in for a soft, delicate kiss. His lips were the right kind of soft that simply complimented hers completely, with a slight rough feel from his perfectly sculpted goatee. His touch mirrored that as well, has soft at first contact, but yet the hands of a man who labored hours of hard work. She smiled at the nuzzling of his nose with hers and pulled herself in even closer to his body, even though there was no godly way the two could be anymore in sync with one another.
However, it didn't stop Tony from trying.
That soft, tender kiss soon grew with want and dedication as Pepper felt his hand lift from her chin to pull her crossed legs overtop his lap. There they rested as his other hand pushed into the back of her red locks on a journey for those roots he loved to grip and pull. A gasp from her lips passed onto his own, and underneath the back of her knee she felt his want for her straining against the zipper of his slacks. That workplace etiquette that they had "both" believed they could ignore was starting to show a line that was slowly becoming more and more defined. In this moment of need, intense want, and craving, Ms. Potts wished it would blur as it started to get harder and harder to pull herself away. Her hand started to venture into his silky, raven black hair, allowing her fingers to claw up the back of his head which earned her a deep groan as he pulled back to bite at her bottom lip.
His eyes caught hers again in that instance, and it was then that they both knew it was well over time to go home.
"Tony..." Pepper panted out as they both came to stare breathlessly at one another. "We-"
"...Should head out?" Tony smiled at her, causing her to give a mirrored smile and nod.
Within the next few minutes, the both of them had gathered yourselves again, heading towards her office where he got the last of his things, and headed towards that back stairwell to make their way downstairs to freedom. Pepper walked in front of him, not thinking much about how she walked in her skirt and heeled ensemble, but rest assured Tony did. He reached passed her to push open the exit door, his face coming exceedingly close to her own as he towered over her, slightly tickling her cheek with the stubble of his beard. Pepper blushed as you moved forward, leading them both down, and out of the building, finally on their way home.
This was really one of the few times she even got to see him during the day, and.... it really is a nice time to be had.

Refuse to be a decent human? Lose your house.
Warning: Very long story.
It's 2011, my boyfriend and I decided to rent a house with our best friends - an engaged couple with two kids. I'm changing names here: I'm Kylie, my boyfriend is Jim, and our couple friends are Brad and Angelina. Jim, Brad, and myself are active duty military.
After over a month of searching we found a really cute house- 1850 sqft, nice yard, great neighbors, only $1350/m, hardwood except for 1 room, 7 minutes from our base. The landlord is in a different state but tells us she pays one of the neighbors to manage the keys for her. It's a military town and that's not uncommon. We all met up with him, toured the house, decided to sign the lease.
We moved in sometime in August. We liked the house, but there were crickets coming into one of the bedrooms through a crack in the window sill. The landlord didn't want to fix it and said to caulk it. It worked, no problem.
We noticed the carpet in the living room was a little dingy and asked her if she would mind paying someone to clean it since we moved in that way. We even made a note of it and took pictures when we moved in. She said no. I bought my own cleaner and the carpet lightened a few shades.
In October, we went to cut the heat on and it didn't work. So we realized the oil tank was empty. Part of the lease states when we move out we needed to leave a full tank of oil, which isn't really a problem as long as we start with a full tank and use all the oil in it. Call the landlord and ask her to have the oil company come fill the tank - which it's 2011 so it's going to cost $1200 to do. She says no. We told her fine, we wouldn't be leaving a full tank when the lease was over though. She got mad and said we had to because it was a clause in our lease. We had the oil company provide statements to say the last time it was filled was that prior January and it was empty when they came to fill our tank that month. We filled the tank, but the heat still didn't work. It's been 2 weeks and it's really getting cold, we asked the LL to get a repairman out to the house. Brad and Angelina have two small kids that need to stay warm. My landlord took another week to fix the heat, and the people that did it were... questionable. It worked for a month, but then quit. We called in our own repairmen to come handle it since the last ones creeped me out, and he noticed some major issues with the chimney that needed attention right away. Like it was unsafe to run the heat at all, the damned thing was about to collapse. We let her know, emailed scans of the paperwork from our nice Honeywell tech and two quotes from contractors to get the work done. (it's going to be $3000-3500ish) It's an emergency repair, at the point it's December and we are really cold. We were using space heaters. The kids have chest colds and Angelina is ready to fly into our landlord's state to handle her physically. I mailed all of that information to her (Angelina's bodily threats omitted) with a signature confirmation and a letter stating the issue.
A few days pass and nothing from our bitch LL. I got onto Google and read the landlord tenant act and local landlord court cases just to see if I had a leg to stand on. I also spoke to my JAG, who's brother happened to be a real estate lawyer, who was also friends with my next door neighbor (the keyholder dude, who surprise, never got paid to watch the house) and decided to come over for dinner with all of us at their place. He gave me some really good info. The next morning, I called our landlord and told her, "look, you get this repair done or I will condemn the house and not pay a dime of rent until it's done". She says she doesn't believe me. I overnighted a certified letter to her explaining the issue and requesting the repair be started within 5 business days since it was an emergency and I had already reported it a week prior. 5 days go by, nothing. At this point I'm ready to walk out on the lease but don't have quite enough legal issues to back that up so- Jim and I requested 20 days of vacation from the military. I drafted a letter to LL telling her she had 10 days to get the repair done or we would terminate the lease, and we would not be paying rent while the heat was in disrepair. I cited the previous letter and included her signature confirmation for it also. 4 days before we go on vacation, I overnighted and signature confirmationed the letter. Two days before we are set to go on vacation I called a city building inspector, set an appointment, he came and condemned the house - it took him less than 15 minutes to decide. Brad and Angelina took off to Angelina's mom's house and Jim and I headed out to spend a few weeks in WARM, SUNNY Florida with his Cuban family. (mmmm, the food). We prorated rent for every day the house was condemned. I called the building inspector every few days to see if the work was done. He also demanded that my landlord do a few minor electrical repairs. Several days have gone by... I spent half that month's rent on good food, liquor, and Disney world tickets. On the 6th day in Florida, the landlord calls me threatening eviction. I told her to please take me to court because I was ready to embarrass her. I cited the landlord tenant act, told her I was going to sue for travel costs to FL, hotel costs, and at that point she was already looking at $850 and it was just going to get more costly. (Longshot, but, I was mad). I also said we were prepared to just walk out if it wasn't done by the time the certified letter stated it should be, again, I wasn't kidding. I had already reserved a uhaul. Oh, and she would be reimbursing me for that $1100 in oil I hadn't been able to burn. She said fine and finally replaced the chimney two weeks after the place was condemned. My neighbor told me she had to borrow money from her family to get it done. Not my problem. She also told me I was a horrible person who was torturing her and her 5 year old who were victims of domestic violence. She also told me we were only slightly better than the last tenants, who she "thought were black by how terrible the house looked when they left". Okay, wow, a slum lord and a racist - I should play the lottery. I'm sorry for your situation but your husband has been a shit to you since you got together. How do I know? Turns out, one of my supervisors is friends with her old supervisor and he and other members of her chain of command had responsed to fights where her and her husband hit each other. Apparently the husband is a drunk too. They tried to get her to leave him but she is just as bad, she busted out his windshield one time and burned all his stuff another. Turns out she got a general administration discharge. She seemed so nice and sweet when we were getting ready to sign that lease. I still can't believe what a bucket of kuku for coco puffs she turned out to be.
Whatever, we came home to a house with functioning heat. Brad and Angelina decided not to move back in but that was all cool with Jim and me. We notarized an agreement between us and told them we totally understood and would take over the rent. Missed them after they left, though.
Later on, in March, a realtor knocked on my door and said he wanted to show the house to a couple. I said, you have the wrong place buddy, I'm renting this right now. He's like no, the owner wants a short sale hopefully by July. I explained I had no notice and was a little confused but it was okay. He was very uncomfortable and unhappy to have walked into a situation where a tenant didn't even know he was coming. I told him it was totally fine, and went on to divulge some details about his new client. He was pretty appalled. He leveled with me- its a cute house but really only worth $90k due to the market crash. It had last sold for $124k, according to zuilla. She's asking for 120k and on the verge of foreclosure. Seriously? I let the couple and realtor in the next day. Didn't worry about it after that. He came to take detailed pictures so he wouldn't have to bother me with flaky potential buyers. He was so nice, I let him help me find a new house to rent when my lease was up. We are still friends on Facebook.
Then, in July the realtor called me and asked if he could show the house to a client. Absolutely. I cleaned and made sure I looked nice for her visit....and when they got to my house I noticed the lady was black. And she wanted to rent. I said, ma'am, call me later today and don't tell anyone. She did! I told her what my LL said about how she couldn't believe her past tenants were white because they left the house trashed when they left. I said, "I don't think this is a good house for you, I know a great guy who is renting out his beach side condo for the next year while he goes out to Africa, why don't you call him?" I text his listing to her, she calls him, ends up renting his house.
None of that is really revenge. Before we moved out, Jim and I cleaned the house. We left the carpets sparkling clean (had professionals come in and do it), payed a gardener to come in and make the yard spiffy, patched up some small nail holes and even painted some window trim that was chipped when we moved in. we basically left it better than we found it, we had already repainted 3 bedrooms in flattering colors when we first moved in (that was approved by the LL no problem of course). We took pictures before and after we moved in. A month goes by, we are all settled in our new condo, and she didn't give us a dime back in freaking deposit. $2400 down the damned drain, plus the cost of little repairs we made out of pocket so we couldn't have to deal with her crazy ass.
I was angry. I began organizing to go to court. Then suddenly Jim is told he's deploying soon. the fuck. A week goes by- Also, I'm pregnant. Which we were casually "not trying but trying" to do. We were happy about that part, but I was puking every day twice a day and emotional. Then Angelina calls me and guess who is on Craigslist slinging her shit hole slum? My LL. I lost it. I got on the same forum her ad was on and posted about the house, every single problem we had, every phone call, every snotty email, how many weeks we went without heat, the crickets, LL's messed up relationship with her off and on again husband, the oil tank, and the racist comments. I never said "don't rent or buy", just shared my experience as a tenant. I didn't name any names but I did link her ad. Received 7 emails thanking me stating LL seemed really nice on the phone but they would be dodging that bullet.
The house foreclosed a few months later.

Void.
What is the definition of "void"?
The Merriam-Webster dictionary describes it as having no legal or binding force, lacking contents that could or should be present, and utterly lacking in something needed, wanted, or expected.
Let's focus on the last part. Utterly lacking seems like a substantial choice of words, but I can tell you that it's how I feel precisely.
My energy is gone my happiness wavers. I'm just a tiny dot of space dust floating in nothingness. And I know, I know that description applies for literally the entire planet, ha, the whole universe whatsoever.
But what I'm trying to say, and probably should have been more specific, it's that I feel empty. I'm existing, yes, but what else? Am I feeling happy and excited about my current situation? I don't think so. Am I feeling an intellectual improvement in my career? Not yet. Am I growing as a person? Probably, I am a lot more independent than I was a month ago (I'm sorry, mom, I should have been a better daughter and help with home chores).
Now what? In Spanish, more specifically in my town, we say: "a echarle chingazos." That means to fight against everything to keep yourself forward. Of course, that it's easier said than done. If you're a Spanish student, please don't say that in a formal environment.
It's been a while since I've felt and said such negative concepts, almost a year if I recall correctly. I will explain, and maybe after my explanation is done, I'll feel somewhat better.
In October of last year, I was ready to quit my job. Mind you; I happen to have a large debt consisting of my very new and beloved car (because yes, I love it). I was hysterical. I didn't want nor could put up with my daily tasks, nevertheless the new problems that surge in the automotive industry so often (now with an extra shortage of components due to covid, yay).
That's when my psychologist recommended I should see a psychiatrist. I did. I was scared as hell, but I did. My doctor is a truly extraordinary woman. She prescribed me some light medicine for the anxiety. Let me tell you; it worked wonders! Suddenly, I could work again and handle meetings with Manufacturing, Customer, and other Engineering departments I had grown to loath. I didn't like it because that is the truth, but I could perform like a normal person again.
I began to actively look for a new job, ready to go a step forward. But in pandemic times, that is not an easy task. Five months passed when I got an email saying I had the profile for a Design Engineer vacant in the USA. I sure as heck got excited about that. The professional growth, the better life quality opportunity!
Moving from one country to another is not simple, or at least if you're from Latin America, I can't tell for European or Asian countries. I had to deal with tons of bureaucracy. And nostalgia, I had a lot of nostalgia on my last two weeks at home, I was still there, but I already missed my mom, dad, and sister.
My first hours in the USA were awful. Immigration took longer than I expected, so I missed the flight. I had never taken a plane so far before; I was scared, I was crying, and no one seemed to care. Only one woman of all the people around me asked if I needed help; I thanked her but continued on my own.
The following day I arrived at my soon-to-be new hometown (temporary at least). I felt alright again, after crying all night and being able to sleep a couple of hours.
Cannot say much after that. Because I started working.
The first day was scary; my supervisor already had a project for me. It didn't help that all my coworkers told me it was a very difficult one. But it was alright.
Now I've been here four weeks and feel just as defenseless and useless as if I had just entered the company. Technically I'm new, very, very new, but still, it's a horrible feeling.
Just thirty minutes before going home. I can make it from here, just thirty more minutes before being free for today.

Ollie Story
A/N: this is an OC insert story cause im trash and create OCs for everything living and nonliving. This is only 1 of a series of not to connected short stories of my OC Ollie and her adventures with BTS in Korea. This will include small drabbles like how they deal with fans and social medias and the occasional airport trip ect. This is kinda spur of the moment but i hope you enjoy! (also if u didnt notice the references this is takes place for the M/V ‘Not Today’)
Hi my name is Olivia but people call me Ollie… or Dollie or Dollhouse, don't worry you will understand once I explain. Everything started when I decided to make parody videos on youtube for fun, under the name of Dollhouse. Some where high quality; using sets and make up and a staff of volunteers to get the product as industrial as possible, meanwhile, some were just simple covers or collabs sitting in front of a camera and singing.Little did i know i would soon find my way into a fandom that was more populated than i originally thought. I had grown a niche that made my channel as popular as it was.
BTS had only been getting more popular in the states and i decided for my next big parody project would be one of their most popular songs BS&T (blood sweat and tears). For this i had to learn how to sing and rap in korean and not only that but find 7 other girls to sing and rap with me, which was no easy task. Ontop of that i decided to go big or go home and do the dance to the song, almost a complete perfect parody but done by 7 girls instead of 7 extremely talented dudes. The whole project took up most of the year and in that time I had posted small update videos which the BTS (Army) community ate up.
Finally somewhere around(January to) October it was ready to be released in its glory. It hit the internet and my subscriber count did not double or quadruple it skyrocketed. I was surprised to wake up and find my dumb face in trending on multiple social medias; i was almost embarrassed from all the fame. On that same video people had watched my other videos to get the jist of my channel and started requesting other works from the group. Of Course i obliged because what else was i gonna do.
I did a simple cover of Spine breaker and did the full rap of cypher 3 (Killer) live at a convention which my best friend had recorded on her handy dandy professional camera and posted to my account. By this time i myself had grown interest in the group and started my research on the 7 boys and realized just how influential they were. I slowly learned their names and their interests, started understanding how much of a meme team they were. Only 1 year passed before i could speak korean to at least have a detailed conversation but of course it wasn't perfect(i still accidently curse).
That's when one faithful day i got an email from a korean company asking for me to audition to become a trainee. I was filled with hope at first before getting extremely skeptical and started asking a bunch of questions to get more details to ease any worries. After seeing the legitness(thats a word right?) of the situation i sucked up my worries and headed to Korea with my broken korean and not as flashy as my videos wardrobe. I walked in wearing basic sweats and a mask to try and keep myself from getting sick in a new country. I waited like every other korean girl or boy to audition and had my cringey audition recorded and to my utter surprise i was chosen.
I wasn't quite sure how to act so, when i moved into the dorm i was shy and timid and didn't talk to many people as i studied korean in a corner.
We learned dance routines we sang we rapped and generally trained like we were actual kpop stars. It was grueling, some dropped out, i almost did too but, due to my military like training from color guard (it's a band thing) i stayed and enjoyed myself thoroughly. I got in trouble a few times for smiling while dancing during a song of raw intensity and should be sporting a pleasant scowl.
That's when our manager(person overseeing us) came to us with good news. We got dressed and headed to what seemed to be a very unused gym and that's when i saw them: BTS. I wanted to be star struck but my professionalism reeled me back in as we were getting ready to start practice. Longest 3 hours of my life dancing next to them, each of them handsome in their own ways. Professional or not i couldn't help but blush every time i looked at one of them for too long.
One of them seemed to recognize me while on a water break and trotted over to atleast say hi. It was V, of course it was. We greeted each other formally still keeping things professional (i've used that word alot) he commented on how he watched my videos and said i had a beautiful voice and even better rapping skills and said my simple cover of Agust D was his favorite. I thanked him letting a smile final ripple on my cheeks before he went back to his team members to seemingly brag that he just talked to me. I thought it was funny. When the final full run of the dance was ready to be done i got dressed in my all black outfit and got set. Everything went smoothly, very cool (yeah that makes sense) and BTS being extra as always putting in that little extra for the video run.
After the video was over not bothering to change out i grabbed my stuff and was stopped by a hesitant hand on my shoulder. This time it was 2 members Suga and Rapmon, J-Hope seemed to be looking over ever so often. They more or less said the same thing as V only with a little less fanboy and more admiration than anything. They even egged me on to at least show them a bit of my skills and i finally agreed after some playful begging from Rapmon and started to rap 1 verse. J-Hope seemed to notice this as he walked over and complimented me as well. Soon i had to leave and had to politely cut the conversation short and thought that other than the performance and recording for the video that would be the last time i saw them. Boy was i wrong.
#BTS#fanfic#oc#oc insert#drabble#origin story#one of many#or few#please tell me what u think#i need motivation#Im debating on romance#no smut tho#unless its like an AU#speaking of AUs#i have an AU list for this OC#AU list meaning what she will be in each AU#aw yeah#i have to much time on my hands with this hurricane

“Former top FBI attorney James Baker admitted to House lawmakers in October last year that the investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump 2016 presidential campaign and Russia was riddled with abnormalities.
Confronted with a damning summary of abnormalities, bias, and omissions that transpired during the investigation, Baker told Congress that the investigation was indeed “highly unusual.”
“I had a jaundiced eye about everything, yes. I had skepticism about all this stuff. I was concerned about all of this. This whole situation was horrible, and it was novel and we were trying to figure out what to do, and it was highly unusual,” Baker told lawmakers.
Members of the House Judiciary and Oversight committees conducted the interviews in an unclassified setting, with agency counsel present to ensure that classified information didn’t enter into the unclassified setting. The transcripts of the interviews haven’t been publicly released, but were obtained for this article.
Baker served as the FBI’s general counsel when the bureau investigated the Trump campaign, and also Hillary Clinton’s use of an unauthorized private email server. During two days of testimony on Oct. 3 and Oct. 18, he told lawmakers that he believed even toward the end of the Clinton investigation that she should have been charged over her “alarming, appalling” mishandling of classified information.
He argued with others, including then-FBI Director James Comey, about the issue all the way toward the end of the investigation, but was ultimately persuaded that Clinton should be exonerated.
“My original belief … after having conducted the investigation and towards the end of it, then sitting down and reading a binder of her materials, I thought that it was alarming, appalling, whatever words I said, and argued with others about why they thought she shouldn’t be charged,” Baker told lawmakers.
As of October 2018, almost two years after the Clinton probe concluded, Baker still believed that the conduct of the former secretary of state and her associates was “appalling,” with regard to the handling of classified information.
general counsel, Baker advised senior FBI leaders on the legal aspects of key investigations and served as the liaison with the Department of Justice (DOJ). In testimony, he detailed a series of unusual steps he took in the Trump–Russia investigation, including serving as the conduit between Perkins Coie—the firm working for the Clinton 2016 presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC)—and the FBI.
Baker left his position as general counsel in early January 2018, and resigned from the FBI in early May 2018.
Baker testified that it was Michael Sussmann, a partner at Perkins Coie, who shared with him information that detailed alleged communications between servers in Trump Tower and servers located in Russia at Alfa Bank—an allegation that eventually was debunked. Sussmann was also the lawyer who spearheaded the handling of the alleged hack of the DNC servers. Baker admitted that it was highly unusual to interact with an outside counsel.
Mr. Jordan: [This] is the first time and to your recollection the only time an outside counsel had information and was wanting to make sure it got to the general counsel of the FBI, and it happened to deal with the Russia investigation.
Mr. Baker: I that that’s correct. Sitting here today, that’s the only one I can remember.
Baker had at least three meetings with Sussmann—the first in person and the following two by phone. During the subsequent meetings, Baker discovered that Sussmann was speaking to the media regarding the same information he shared with Baker.
Baker admitted during his testimony that he knew Sussmann had professional involvement with the DNC.
Baker acknowledged that he soon discovered that Sussmann was also speaking to The New York Times regarding that same information. The FBI later contacted The New York Times and asked the newspaper to hold off on publishing while the bureau investigated the matter.
The information that Sussmann passed to Baker also appeared in the so-called Steele dossier, in a memo dated Sept. 14, 2016. Notably, Sussmann met with Baker five days later, on Sept. 19, 2016. Baker had initially testified he believed the meeting took place sometime before the election. Lawmakers later provided a specific date.
The server and Alfa Bank were investigated by the FBI, and were also the subject of a journalistic investigation by The New York Times. Nothing was found.
The server in question wasn’t operated by the Trump Organization, but “run and managed by Cendyn, a vendor that organizes email marketing campaigns for hotels and resorts,” according to a Nov. 2, 2016, article by Slate. The traffic was simply “mass emails, related to loyalty programs, discount offers, and the like.”
During lawmaker questioning of Baker’s interactions with Mother Jones reporter David Corn, it was revealed that Baker was the subject of an ongoing criminal leak investigation by the DOJ. Baker admitted to having received parts of the Steele dossier from Corn. Baker testified that these sections were different than the ones already in the FBI’s possession.
Mr. Baker: My recollection is that he had part of the dossier, that we had other parts already, and that we got still other parts from other people, and that — and nevertheless some of the parts that David Corn gave us were parts that we did not have from another source.
Baker said he either knew or assumed at the time that Corn had gotten the dossier from Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson, whom Steele was working for.
Simpson had been hired by the DNC and the Clinton campaign through Perkins Coie to produce the dossier on then-candidate Trump. Former British spy Christopher Steele compiled the dossier, which the FBI later used as the core of the FISA application to spy on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
Baker told investigators that he personally reviewed portions of the Page FISA application, adding that this wasn’t something he would usually get involved in. He also admitted that he didn’t review the Woods file, which provides underlying documentation for the accuracy of facts represented in the FISA application.
Baker testified that he told Comey at some point that he thought the FISA “was legally sufficient.” Baker, however, appears not to have been aware of the politicized nature of some the information. He also acknowledged he had only read part of the FISA.
DOJ official Bruce Ohr, who was a key conduit between Steele and the FBI, previously testified to the joint committee that he had informed the bureau of Steele’s anti-Trump bias, and that the dossier was tied to the Clinton campaign and the DNC. Neither fact appeared in the final FISA application before it was approved by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.
Baker also said that he only became aware of the fact that Ohr’s wife, Nellie Ohr, worked for Fusion GPS—which had also employed Steele—from public reporting.
Mr. Ratcliffe: When did you become aware that the wife of the number four person at the Department of Justice was helping in the creation of the Steele dossier? …
Mr. Baker: To the best of my recollection, I think I learned about that through public reporting.
When asked whether he was aware of Bruce Ohr’s warning to the FBI, Baker responded, “I don’t recall ever hearing that before just right now.” Baker told lawmakers he was aware Ohr served as Steele’s back-channel to the FBI, but said he was unaware, however, that Ohr’s FBI handler, agent Joe Pientka, funneled the intelligence to FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok and FBI attorney Lisa Page.
Strzok and Page exchanged dozens of text messages expressing bias against Trump and support for Clinton, while playing key roles on the investigations related to both candidates. The discovery of the text messages led to the removal of Strzok from the Russia investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.
Baker told lawmakers he ordered an investigation into the messages shortly after reading them.
“I only read like a couple, literally a couple. But that was enough for me to hear, that it freaked me out. And I was worried and I thought we need to get on top of this quickly,” Baker said.
Baker said that, despite an ongoing investigation by the DOJ inspector general, he “consulted with other folks” at the FBI to put together a team to do a review the text messages.
The House Judiciary and Oversight committees—which interviewed nearly two dozen witnesses—concluded in December last year that the DOJ under President Barack Obama had treated Trump and Clinton unequally by affording Clinton and her associates extraordinary accommodations, while potentially abusing surveillance powers to investigate Trump’s associates.
Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated Baker thought his meeting with Michael Sussmann took place after the FISA application on Carter Page was approved. Baker in his testimony said the meeting took place sometime before the election. The Epoch Times regrets the error.”

Burning Man Department of Public Works
This morning I went for a walk down Haight Street to get some tea and coffee beans from Gus’s. At the moment the San Francisco city utilities are digging up Haight street to replace pipes. Old Gas pipes are very dangerous, because pockets can form, which become land mines. As I’m strolling down Haight street I pass a young woman wearing brand new hard hat and a brand new yellow work vest. She was strolling in a prancing kind of way kind of “look at me”, not in that straight forward “I’m at work” way.
When she passed me something made me stop and turn and look at her walking away. The large patch on the back of her vest said “Department of Public Works” on a white panel with blue writing. Something about what she was wearing struck me. Her vest and hard hat were all brand new and her vest didn’t have the orange bits like all the other workers. Also the other workers didn’t acknowledge her.
She was also wearing black leggings, sooooo not appropriate work wear for a hard hat. One of my creative gigs is fashion and costuming. So it’s a thing I take notice of out of habit, to get costumes correct. There were women working with the men in a managerial capacity. Dressed like the men in scuffed work vests, jeans or pants, and scratched hard hats. Their stance and aura looked like they were at work, that no nonsense look.
I was scratching my head wondering what was up with the other chick. There was something about the black leggings and spotless new hard hat and work vest. Got my coffee and had a joke about it with the barista. The chick in the new hard hat wasn’t a scammer or anything, she was just weird. In Haight Ashbury weird is normal, which is why I live here.
I strolled back to the loft with my cappuccino, box of Darjeeling tea and Guatemala pale roast beans. Took cat for a walk to the back garden, dropped a vintage tea set from Goodwill off to my neighbor. We both love high tea. Then sat at my imac and it hit me. The chick in the new vest and hard hat and inappropriate pants was a first year alumni of Burning Man’s Department of Public works. It was the fine desert white dust on her boots, not chunky brown sand like the other workers.
Everybody who is a Burning Man virgin comes home with that look and prance of “I’m so cool”. I had it too after my first time at Burning Man. It’s kind of like a cult feeling, been in one of those too. But you do eventually get over it. You think your tiny house village is cool and weird? Wait till you are amongst hundreds of tiny house villages that are totally bent.
DPW Burning Man are the backbone of the festival who take care of all the hard work and icky bits. Rather than me try to describe them I included their info sheet and contact links for you to apply. Adventurers and those wanting a crash course in tiny house village management read on…
Department of Public Works - DPW
Black Rock City’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is the workforce dedicated to building the physical infrastructure of Black Rock City, the place Burning Man calls home in the Black Rock Desert. The DPW works side by side with all of the departments within the Burning Man Project. We also work with Burning Man participants, cooperating agencies, and our worldwide community to ensure that Black Rock City becomes a reality, and then vanishes without a trace. You can check out a full list of our mandate here.
It’s long hard work, and we have a damn good time doing it. Each year we bring together more than 700 people — some new folks, some returning crew — to build our team. We look for electricians, plumbers, heavy equipment operators, licensed truck drivers and bus drivers, carpenters, welders, auto mechanics, office assistants, dispatch operators, and Depot staff. We also look for unskilled, hard-working individuals who are eager to learn and who have a strong desire to help create the temporary city in the desert we all call home.
The DPW work season is a fast-paced, chaotic, large-scale event production environment. To work well with us, and to create a place for yourself within this aspect of the Burning Man event, you’ll need to have the skills necessary to function and thrive in this type of workplace. These skills include dynamic problem-solving, self-sufficiency, flexibility, emotional intelligence, and a generally proactive approach that keeps things moving forward. Solutions ensure that the show goes on.
You’ve also got to be able to deal with the setting. The Black Rock Desert is one of the harshest environments in the continental U.S., and it takes a conscious effort by the individual as well as the group to ensure everyone’s health and safety. Slackers, whiners, and exceptionally needy people need not apply. It’s tough enough out there, and if you cannot toe the line, we will have to ask you to leave.
The DPW Work Season runs from early August to early October, and has four distinct phases: set-up, the event, tear down, and playa restoration.
Set-up is where we ask you to show up in Gerlach, Nevada, in early August and work with us on putting the city together until the event starts. Working two weeks of set-up will earn you a ticket to that year’s Burning Man event.
The event is when most DPW crews are on call. However, if everything has gone according to plan, you will have the week off to enjoy the Burning Man event. If you WANT to work during the event, there are some DPW crews that keep working, and many other opportunities to volunteer with other departments and projects.
Tear down starts Tuesday morning after the event. Tear Down lasts about two weeks and involves taking apart everything we put together during set-up. The buildings come apart, the fences come down, and everything gets packed up and shipped away.
Playa restoration is the last phase of our work season. Throughout the DPW work season, you will have many opportunities to sign up for playa restoration. You can also sign up any time by emailing [email protected]. If you are selected, you will join an all-star team of professional environment-restoration specialists, dedicated to leaving no trace of our event in the Black Rock Desert. Playa restoration usually lasts for just over two weeks and brings us into the first week of October.
You can sign up to do set-up, or tear down, or both. Playa restoration candidates will be selected during tear down.
We will provide for your basic needs while you work for us: three meals a day, water and electrolyte drinks, access to laundry, kitchen facilities, and our own Rec. Center / Social Club, complete with internet access, a pool table, and a phone so you can touch base with the outside world now and then. Working with us for two weeks will earn you a DPW T-shirt, identifying you as one of us, for better or worse.
If all this sounds good to you, and you’d like to be involved, please go here to apply. We will add you to the list of potentials for the DPW crew, and keep you in the loop as things go forward. We do our best to select and notify crew by late May / early June each year. Please keep in mind that we don’t have room for everyone and that out of the hundreds of applicants, only 30-40 new people will be asked to join our team each year.
You can read much, much more about our operation in our current DPW Handbook.

Worries
It’s the middle fo the night and I’ve got so many worries going through my head. Figured I should write them down and hopefully let them go.
Doula
I talked to two doulas and they were both very expensive. One had a nurse practitioner background and charges $4,000 and the other didn’t see to have as much experience and charges $6,000. What the hell? I’m starting to wonder if it’s even necessary to have one... There is a Collective that offer doula services below $2,000 so I should look into that. I also would want Nick to get involved, but he’s been so busy with work and preparing to teach his class that his mind is not in this at all. And I know it should focus on the work priorities, but it’s still frustrating for me to be doing all this by myself.
Contract
Rob from General Assembly days reached out to me about a FT work opportunity. With the pregnancy, I didn’t want to apply for it but offered to do contract work instead. So that’s what we’re setting up this week: 25-30 hours a week for a maximum of 3 months. I would work until end of October, and use November to prepare for the birth, and set up the apt. I’m going to have to commute to NJ for part of the contract, not sure how much. I’m worried that I’m hungry every few hours so I’ll have to cook/prep/pack a huge lunch bag with healthy snacks for the days I have to trek to NJ. Oh and I’m still no where close to getting my online portfolio updated...
Readings
We got a bunch of books to read in preparation for the labour, delivery, nursing, etc. I’ve been consumed with the registry and have neglected this important part. And when Nick sees me with one of the books, he worries that all I’m doing is baby-focused. Um, yeah, who else will be since he’s so busy?
Registry
I’ve been spending most of the last few weeks looking into registry stuff. It’s overwhelming and there is so much to read up about. I came up with a solid list and Nick took a quick pass at it. We went to test drive some strollers yesterday and looked at some other furniture. I also got some maternity clothes since I’m going to be seen in public that much more often, and for professional reasons. I’m also not sure how to share my registry with people. Some have asked for the info so that’s easy, but what about others who know about the pregnancy? Should I just send a general email telling them people about it?
Shower
Kara, Ngoc, Jerusha and Molly have offered to throw me a shower in passing. I’ve been mulling over it because I’d like to have one, but feel that it’s a lot of responsibility to take on. I won’t ask Jerusha and Molly because the former has enough family drama to deal with and the latter is trying to conceive herself and buying a house. I’ve asked Ngoc if she’d be willing to partner up with Kara but it was via text so although she agreed, not sure how she really feels about it. Also, she’s free only one weekend in October and I’ll be in week 32 by then so feeling it’s a bit too late. Nick isn’t even keen on having anything because he doesn’t like to be the center of attention. I also don’t know who to invite or whether they would even show up since every one lives so far away, NYC is an expensive city, and I’m afraid no one would show up anyway. Maybe I’ll just scrap the idea and just have a “Meet MiniBoo” party months after she’s born...
Nesting
I want to set up the apartment now but Nick doesn’t have time to help nor does he want to do it anytime soon. We had been waiting to do anything until we were sure the anatomy scan would be normal. Now that it’s confirmed, I just want to get a move on getting the bathroom window fixed, the curtain rod up in the bedroom, moving unwanted stuff out of the place, getting the kitchen floor and counter polished, etc. Nick can’t even get rid of his junk that he promised to get rid of years ago so I’m left overwhelmed with all this clutter. I’ll be able to do some of this once I’m done with the contract, but I’ll be huge by that point so not much can be done on my own and Nick isn’t the best at taking initiative...
Pottery
I did one market last month and it was nice that I was able to sell some pots off. But there are so many left at home that I don’t know what to do with them! Many of my pieces are crap but I feel bad just throwing them in the trash because that’s not sustainable. At the same time, it just sits in the apt taking up space that I’ll need. I also miss throwing a little bit. I haven’t done anything since coming back from Japan because of the drama at the studio. And selling online is not happening much, yet I’m not parting with boxes of packing stuff. Sigh.
Parents
My parents want to come right when MiniBoo is born. They want to help us with cooking and cleaning the place while we take care of her. Nick is adamant about wanting some alone time before anyone can come visit, including his own parents. I want both my parents here, but there is no privacy for them or us, which is fine with me, but not for Nick. He is having a nervous breakdown just thinking about it. I sometimes wished I had just married into my own culture and values... His parents are much more detached, still going on pre-planned trips abroad. They are away now, and they will be gone for most of October and November... I feel like that they just want to give us money and no much else. They don’t even mention visiting us to help with stuff around the house before their trips... I wanted Nick and his dad to work together in setting up the crib and dresser since we’ll be getting them from IKEA. That would be nice father-son bonding time, but nope, we’re on our own. I guess I should be used to it by now, but with a baby, I wanted to do some of the traditional family stuff. So much for that.
Overall
I’m just really pissed that I can’t just DO stuff. Nick is always saying NO and even when I tell him this is all stressing me out, he brushes it off saying his priority is to keep his job and make sure he gets his 4-month paternity leave. I get that, but then why can’t I just make the decisions without him having a say in everything? It’s so frustrating to me and it stresses me out to the point where I’m insomniac. He doesn’t get that time is running out to get things done properly and without stress. I’m trying to stay calm and collected for MiniBoo’s sake but the way for me to truly be like that is to get things done! Honestly, I thought writing all this down would help me but it’s just riling me up more. Blergh.

I need advice for my auto insurance claim! Please help!!?
I was in a car accident 4 days ago. My Mother was the passenger in my car (I was driving). I was on the off ramp getting off the freeway. All cars behind me were stopped. I was stopped waiting to make a right turn. An emergency vehicle was coming in my direction from my left. Therefore, I was waiting for the emergency vehicle to pass. The person behind me (large dodge ram truck I am in an '08 2 door Infiniti coupe) thought I went so he 'gunned it' to get in front of the emergency vehicle. Unfortunately, we had not gone so he pushed my vehicle out in front of the emergency vehicle. Luckily, I was able to turn my car out of the way. I did not hit anyone (no one was in front of me). My Mother and I were both put into a gurney and taken to a local hospital in an ambulance. We both had our seat belts on and suffered whiplash. We were released 5-6 hours later after x-rays, etc. We were both prescribed medicine. My Mother has had 3 brain tumors and has trouble with her speech etc. and any violent startling trauma can get her shaken up pretty badly and confused. I know she hit her head but, she is in pain but not nearly as much as I am. With my Mother's condition I don't know if this kind of thing can have negative effects later on. I know that my neck and back is pretty messed up. It hurts to stand for after 15 minutes or so. My car is pretty messed up and had to be towed. I plan on taking it back to the Infiniti shop to get all new parts. My car has all the upgrades in it so I want it to be taken care of. Am I allowed to take it to the Infiniti dealership or will Geico (the other persons insurance) not allow that, or does it not matter? The police gave the guy that hit us a citation. I have USAA and the other person has Geico. I just want to know exactly what to do in this situation. Since I'm out a car (I work for myself) I have been out (already) a decent amount of money for not being able to meet up with my clients. I spoke to my insurance today and they said that all my medical is covered since I had that already in my plan (without it raising my premium) and that I should get a settlement ON TOP of paying for damages to my car and getting me a rental, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to get taken for a ride. I've heard the horror stories of dealing with insurance companies. Any advice on what I should make a point of saying to the other insurance company, etc. Thanks in advance....""

Question about different garaging address on insurance policy?
I had had my license for 6 years in October, and called my insurance company to make sure my rate would go down. While on the phone, the rep and I got to chatting and I mentioned to her that I have been staying most nights (6-7 nights per week) at a different address for over a year now, but my license and policy are still listed at my mother's address. The rep explained the garaging address can be changed without changing the billing address if the two are different. Today I received an email about being refunded the difference at the end of my policy term. I didn't realize the changes would generate such a huge difference in price (The zip code of the town I have been staying in has a low crime rate and my mother's address is in a city). I realize people change their address to commit fraud, and now seeing such a difference in rate, I want to sure there is no legal ambiguity- I want to be crystal clear on what garaging implies and what I need to be aware of. 1) Am I in a gray area...If I go home for a weekend? If I lend the car to my brother for a few days? Do I need to be at the garaged address 80% of the time? 100%? I almost want to call them and ask to change it back just so as not have to worry. 2) Also, what would generate the bigger rate difference- the garaging change or the fact that I have had my license for 6 years? (is there a way to tell? Can I request a revised policy? 3) I am planning to replace my car soon, possibly donating it by the end of the year (very old car with continuous engine problems), so I will need to cancel my policy before it is up in April. Will this complicate things further? Any advice or resources are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and thank you for reading!""

Insurance Cost Starting Driver-?
Statement of Facts: 16 (soon turning 17) Good Grades, above B, honors Several after school activities (Student Council, if that is even relevant) Impeccable driving history (no infractions) State of Residence: Maine Rural/sub-city? Insured under fathers plan, also clean record (51 and 1 ticket?) Alright, I'm currently under my fathers policy and am driving his vehicle to school and back. Soon we will be purchasing a vehicle for my own, and I have a few questions. To be frank, I am looking at mustangs. Not v6s, but GT v8s, preferably standard transmissions. Dad's biggest problem is insurance, which is understandable. My question is how much said insurance would cost/ raise his existing policy? -I like this model because I want a vehicle with performance. When I think of performance, Muscle comes into mind. The quintessential of this and most feasible is a mustang. Many older versions (such as 1990's, early 2000's) so they are affordable, and I just like them. Also I know a considerable amount of knowledge for my age about vehicles due to helping in my grandfathers garage past summers and many weekend projects.""

Insurance and Stepchildren?
I've been doing some research and have been able to find very little information on this topic. My husband and I got married recently and with our combined incomes, my son would no longer qualify for Medicaid (which had previously been his insurance). My husband asked his employer (who carries Aetna) if he could add his stepson and they told him yes, absolutely, they just needed his birth certificate, SS#, and a copy of our marriage certificate. We provided all these documents, and then they told us we needed to cancel his current insurance and provide proof of cancellation before they could cover him - which seemed strange to me, because I've had Medicaid as secondary insurance in the past, but we complied. We provided them with the letter saying that his coverage would be terminated effective June 1st. Hubby asked HR if everything was in place, and they said yes - as of June 1st, when his Medicaid expired, they would pick up coverage. Then yesterday (June 7th), HR approached my husband and told him that an Aetna representative called them and said that they can NOT cover his stepson unless I, the biological mother, am also on the insurance. This was NEVER mentioned to us previously and they knew he was not planning to add me as well - we never provided any of my documentation or information. I called Aetna and they told me that HR at the place of employment are the ones who determine this policy, and HR is telling us that it's the insurance company. So now my son is completely without coverage when they TOLD us that it would begin on the 1st. I have no interest in switching my insurance - I am covered under my parents' policy and it is very good. I am currently pregnant and I know my OB takes my current insurance and they have already preapproved all prenatal care and the birth. I might have considered switching if absolutely necessary had we known ahead of time, but we didn't, and now his insurance has lapsed as a result. So my question is - in my research, I came accross Obama's Affordable Care Act, which I know is the one that requires insurance companies to cover children until they are 26 and is the same reason that my parents' insurance company covers me. I read a couple different places that this same law also applies to stepchildren. So, under this law, is my husband's insurance required to cover my son?""

My car insurance and my driver license will be suspended?
Here is my story . Don't be harsh to me because I know my driving is bad I have been driving with this car for 7 months. I paid premium coverage. I did hit a divider myself and then I claimed my insurance in order to get my car repaired ( this time cost like $3000) After that 3 months, I hit a car in a parking lot. Another driver claimed my insurance and the insurance company paid them $600 to fix their car. After that 2 months, I again hit another car in the parking lot. I renewed my insurance in Jan. Before I paid $800 for 6 months, this time I paid $1900 for 1 year policy. Yesterday , I really hit another car on the road. I claimed my insurance again because the other driver's car really bad and I don't think I can pay off. My questions are : Should I pay deductible in order to get my car repaired because my car bad too and the body shop said It would cost 1k to 1.5k( because of the old damage) Will my license get suspended?

Car Rental USA Insurance?
I am getting really annoyed with trying to get a quote for car rental in USA. For basic rental I have been quoted $200. But then there are all the insurances: Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) Personal Accident and Effects (PAE) What do I actually need to have as they are really expensive!!! Adding just the first two takes my rental up to $500. I am very confused. What legally do I have to have? Someone told me the US insurance is strange cos you can get sued for an accident and end up paying thousands of dollars out to the person you hit. Can I just get insurance through my own car insurance here in the UK rather than paying $300 dollars??

""Pregnant with no health insurance, Texas?""
Is anyone familiar with Texas Department of Health and Human Services. I just found out I am pregnant yesterday, two days ago my husband was laid off work. His old company added an HSA for us in December and we were under the impression everything was fine with employment if they added this for our family. I finally had a family HSA as of 1/1/12 and then on 1/3/12 it was taken away. He worked 90 hours on his last paycheck almost the most of the year, and was told work is slow so he was being laid off. They also added back matching 401k this year too, yep! We have been trying for years and had no idea this would happen this way. It is just crazy! So I found out on the website for HHS of Texas the income level for benefits. I am right there underneath the level for 2 people. Do they include the unborn child as a 3rd family member yet? Also I saw that you have to list assest out like vehicles. We have two cars and that is it. We make payments on both of them, so is it possible they will deny us since we have these assets. Other than those we have no other assets. But I remember my mom being denied for SSI on my brother due to assets so I am worried. Please can anyone help ease my mind?""

Insurance question for 17 yr old driver (sports cars)?
At the end of the summer I am allowed to buy my own car. At that time I will have been driving for about a year and a half under my parent's insurance. I have 2 options as far a buying a car: putting about a $5000 down payment on a car and my parents paying off the rest before I graduate college, or buying a car for $5000. The cars I would buy for $5000 would either be a mitsubishi 3000gt or a nissan 300zx. I like both of these cars, but they're not very professional and since I hopefully will have whatever car I buy through college, I want something that doesn't scream hey i'm fresh out of high school and stuck with a sports car! As far as putting a $5000 down payment at a local dealership, my limit is about $16,000 at the most. For 16,000 I was looking at a used (obviously) BMW M3, Mazda Rx8, and Audi A4, or (if I get extremely lucky and stumble upon a) Infiniti G35. These cars look a little more mature than the ones I would buy for $5000.""

Can auto insurance carrier deny claim due to their insured simply ignoring request for signed affidavit ?
Hi Have a question. My rear bumper was lightly tapped by 17 year old new driver. Damage is minor and cosmetic at $425. My car is only three years old and in perfect condition. The insured provided me all his insurance information and said to file a claim through his dad's insurance carrier. I called local police department 911 line to report minor collision. Officer responded and insured admitted to police officer that he tapped rear bumper. Police officer looked at my rear bumper and refused to make a police report as he said cannot issue a report unless damage is over $1500. I begged the officer repeatedly to please provide me even an incident report or something official like an affidavit as the teenager admitted to officer that he hit my rear bumper. Police Officer simply drove off and left me on the side of the road with a stranger. Of course now four weeks later, the insured and his father have simply ignored phone calls, emails and registered mail attempts by his insurance carrier to verify version. (not sure what version would be needed as my black paint is on his front bumper) I called the insured and his dad hung up on me twice. The insurance carrier told me they are denying and closing out the claim due to insured not responding. They said this is totally legal under Illinois State laws. (basically too bad, so sad) By the way this insurance company has unacceptable rating with state insurance board and BBB. I paid a body shop $425 in cash to fix car yesterday. Do I have recourse as I see my options would be to file a complaint with Illinois Banking and Insurance or file a small claims lawsuit against insured and insurance carrier (but that is an additional $119 court filing fee) Any ideas would be appreciated.""

Will an insurance company pay for a surgery if..?
..I had it before I got the insurance? Just about a month ago I had chest reconstructive surgery. I'm 18 years old so I have to be a full-time student to be covered by my parents' insurance. However, I realized I can't afford to pay for college. I have no job and I also desperately need a car. I want to take a year off to work and save money and get a car and then go back to college when it rolls around next year. However, my surgery hasn't been paid for yet and I only have until the 29th to drop my classes without being charged. If I were to quit college to work, how much would insurance be for me per month and would they even cover the charges of the surgery since I had it done before getting the insurance? Thanks.""
How much is classic car insurance in Ontario?
Hi, I'm looking at making a car purchase for the summer. I'm looking at a couple cars, including a '72 Dodge Dart and a '69 (?) Chevy Nova. I like both because they are, a) under $2000 dollars, b) are both in need of some TLC, and c) I've heard that classic car insurance CAN be cheaper than regular insurance. I'm 20 with a perfect driving record and a full G-license, but I know that doesn't usually matter to insurance companies. Any advice? I'd be buying for a daily driver, so is it even worth the effort despite the serious increase in cool-factor?""

How much cash will be taken due to the Affordable Health Care Act?

Can I have two Health Insurance Policies from different states?
Before you answer, please read this thoroughly. I am a student and Illinois Resident. I have PPO health insurance in Illinois that I pay out of pocket for. $1000 deductible, 100% covered. I go to school in Florida and have employer insurance in FL (ever since Sept 2008), but it's an HMO. The PPO my job offers has no deductible but is 80/20 coverage, so I opted the HMO. For the average person, it would make no sense to have 2 policies, but I'm not ordinary. I have many pre-existing conditions (some I was born with), hence the Illinois coverage. In Dec of last year, before my FL insurance kicked in, I had a multitude of issues which caused me to have to use my BCBS of IL in Florida where I'm attending school. Many of those things are at bay now, but for doctor visits, exams, etc to arise other than routine check ups, should I start using my FL HMO insurance and just use my IL insurance for when I visit home during breaks? Or should I just drop my FL insurance altogether? The reason this is an issue is b/c I am afraid I my rates will go up or they drop me if I continue to use my insurance which was meant to be for IL, but I have been using it in another state. Yes they will cover b/c it's PPO and it falls under the BCBS umbrella, but this is the risk I take. I will NOT drop my Illinois insurance because I have pre-existing issues that is NOT covered by my FL insurance, so switching isn't even on option. Plus they keep doing layoffs and my certainty at this job isn't guaranteed. Furthermore, I keep reading about fraud, this is not my intent. I am just trying not to have my rates rise anymore b/c I am a student and not making much as it is. I am looking for the best coverage because good health care is my primary concern. I am NOT trying to file a double claim with both insurances, and I am NOT trying to collect any money out of this. Things happen like the flu, ER visits, and any other reason to visit the doctor when you are sick or injured. I have a 2 week window during open enrollment to drop my coverage thru my job. I pay only $20 per paycheck for my FL HMO insurance. So the little amount really isn't that much to fret over, but I need to know b/c I don't want my IL insurance to go up or to be denied covereage b/c I have two policies out there. Someone please give me some guidance. :) I have called my insurance company on both ends, but I can't get a straight answer from either. It's always the you need to contact the other company for the answer . So I am running around in circles. I was even told to just find out after I use my FL insurance to see. I'm afraid to take the gamble.""
Why do people keep comparing health insurance mandates to car insurance mandates?
Car insurance mandates are done at the STATE level, in accordance with the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. constitution. Yet people (the president included) continue to claim that a FEDERAL mandate to buy insurance is no different than being required to cover your car. (Completely ignoring that you have to BUY a car before you must get insurance...the govt's basically saying they own your body...insure it or be taxed) So isn't a FEDERAL mandate unconstitutional unless you plan on writing an amendment to the Constitution so that such a mandate is in accordance with the Tenth Amendment?? http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0909/27384.html The questions from ABCs George Stephanopoulos highlighted a politically dangerous new aspect of the health reform debate for Obama as critics from Republican leaders to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce say his reform proposals amount to a middle-class tax increase. Obama promised during the campaign that Americans earning less than $250,000 a year would not see any tax increases from an Obama administration. Obama strongly denied that the mandate amounts to a tax increase saying it was no different than requiring people to have auto insurance and charging a penalty if they dont. He also said it was important for everyone to have insurance so that people who do carry insurance dont have to shoulder the load for people who dont. The excise tax is designed as an enforcement mechanism to ensure people will carry insurance.""

They Survived a Massacre. Then the Lawyers Started Calling.
Survivors of mass shootings and other tragedies are typically in shock for several weeks after the incident. Some states require lawyers to wait 30 days before soliciting wrongful death or personal injury clients, but many do not. If you were a lawyer and a state had no regulation on soliciting business, how long would you wait before contacting survivors for new clients? Why? What are the ethics underlying your decision?
It was late one night in February when a barrage of Facebook messages started lighting up Christopher Hansen’s phone. Each one included an image of a stranger whose life had been upended by a mass shooting. Just like Mr. Hansen’s.
There was a photo of a woman who had survived the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, smiling beside an orange memorial ribbon. Another showed a man holding a placard with the words “Vegas Strong.”
The photos were coming from John Groff, the office manager of a law firm hired by Mr. Hansen, a survivor of the Orlando Pulse nightclub massacre in 2016. And they were accompanied by messages from Mr. Groff, who appeared to be using one mass shooting survivor to recruit others as new clients.
“We need this one,” Mr. Groff wrote, according to screenshots provided by Mr. Hansen. “Reach out to him.”
Mr. Groff sent a link to a news story about a woman whose eye had been shot out in Las Vegas.
“I want this case,” Mr. Groff wrote.
The shooting rampages that have terrorized communities across the country have spurred lawsuits from the ever-growing ranks of victims and survivors seeking a measure of justice. And many survivors say that within days of the traumatizing events, they face relentless pressure to sign representation contracts.
“We’ve all gotten a thousand phone calls from lawyers,” said Chad Robertson, who survived the Las Vegas shooting and helped administer a handful of survivor support groups on Facebook.
But even in the high-pressure world of solicitations, Mr. Hansen and other survivors’ experiences with the firm they hired after Orlando stand out as unusual. Clients described Mr. Groff going to extraordinary lengths to snag more business for his firm. Two men also said that while they were being asked to solicit more clients, Mr. Groff sent them sexually charged messages.
In the weeks after that shooting in June 2016, Mr. Hansen said he was approached by Mr. Groff, who said he was with the Law Offices of Conrad J. Benedetto, a Philadelphia-based plaintiffs’ law firm. The firm also has offices in New York, New Jersey, Michigan and Arkansas, according to its website.
The firm’s work has ranged from personal injury cases to environmental contamination, civil rights complaints and bankruptcies. But it has also pursued mass shooting cases after attacks at the Pulse nightclub, the Las Vegas concert and at a church in Sutherland Springs, Tex. The firm’s website touts its work on shooting cases. It has filed at least one lawsuit so far stemming from a mass shooting, joining with other firms to sue a security company that once employed the Pulse gunman.
Hundreds of families have turned to the legal system after mass shootings at Columbine, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, Las Vegas and more. Often, they find themselves facing a multiyear legal crusade, with slim chances of success.
The primary people responsible — the gunmen — are often dead or do not have nearly enough wealth to compensate even a fraction of their victims. Federal laws insulate gun makers from legal liability.
Despite these hurdles, some victims say they go to court to expose safety flaws, law enforcement lapses or negligence at a theater or concert venue where gunshots erupted. Others sue to pry open the private internal records of gun makers. A lawsuit can become one more way of speaking for the dead.
Two survivors of the Valentine’s Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., have sent letters of intent to sue to the school district as well as local and federal law enforcement agencies over the response to the shooting and the multiple unheeded warnings about the gunman.
States write their own rules governing how lawyers can solicit business, sometimes requiring them to wait 30 days after a wrongful death or personal injury before approaching potential clients. California law does not allow firms to solicit people who may still be too physically or mentally scarred to make reasonable decisions about hiring a lawyer.
Jamie Lynn Gallegos, who survived the Vegas shooting, said she was still in shock when her phone started ringing about two weeks after the attack in October. From 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., calls poured in for her and her husband, their sons and others who had gone together to the Route 91 festival, she said.
“They were relentless,” said Ms. Gallegos, who with her husband transported Las Vegas gunshot victims in the bed of their pickup truck.
Getting involved with the Benedetto firm forged an accidental brotherhood for Mr. Hansen and a few other Pulse survivors who signed up as clients. They appeared together on a rainbow-colored float at Boston’s gay pride parade last June.
This year, they went on cross-country trips organized by the firm to meet other mass-shooting survivors in Las Vegas and California. They ate at glittering Las Vegas restaurants and saw the Grand Canyon.
But three of the men said they began to feel more like sales executives, sent to draw more business for the firm by making promotional videos and appearing at meetings with other mass-shooting survivors.
“They were using our story,” Mr. Hansen said in an interview.
The men said they did not raise their concerns with anyone at the law firm at the time, including Mr. Benedetto, the owner, or with any state agencies that regulate professional conduct.
Mr. Benedetto said his firm treated all of its clients with professionalism and respect. In an interview, he said that his clients have his cellphone number and “can call me to voice any complaints.” That never happened, he said.
“It would be unfortunate if any unsubstantiated and false allegations have been wrongfully spread through the community,” Mr. Benedetto said in an email.
He added: “We represent victims who have been seriously injured and emotionally distressed and we respect them and will always support them to the fullest moral, ethical and legal standards.”
Brian Nunez, a client who left Pulse moments before the shooting and felt traumatized by survivors’ guilt, joined up with the firm and flew to Las Vegas in January for what he believed was a support meeting with victims of the massacre there.
“When we got there, the setting changed completely,” Mr. Nunez said. “It was, ‘You guys, you do your job and get other people to sign up.’ That’s it.”
Mr. Nunez said he was asked to record a promotional video for the Benedetto firm, “saying who we are, what our tragedy was and what they’ve done for us.”
“I didn’t even feel comfortable recording it,” Mr. Nunez said, though he went through with it.
Javier Nava, a restaurant manager who was shot in the abdomen during the Pulse attack, signed up with the firm and joined the Las Vegas and California trips, also believing the meetings were aimed at helping survivors share their stories and connect with one another. But he said the gatherings felt like recruiting seminars.
“They wanted me to share my history, but get more clients,” Mr. Nava said. “This is the deal. They are using me.”
Mr. Groff, the law firm’s office manager, is also listed as an administrator of a private Facebook group called Survivors of Mass Shootings whose mission is to “help each other through our healing process, rather it be a few days or a lifetime.”
Many of the state rules that regulate legal advertisements require that direct mail and advertising circulars include prominent disclaimers to make clear they are soliciting business. But often, those rules make no mention of Facebook groups, online messaging, friend requests and other everyday modes of communication.
It was during the trips with other survivors that two of the men said they also began to have uncomfortable interactions with Mr. Groff, who they said arranged their travel, took them out to meals, provided their tickets and drove them from meeting to meeting.
Mr. Groff is not a lawyer, but he served as a primary contact with shooting survivors, clients said. He could be personable and funny, and spent hours with the men, traveling and talking and winning their confidence, they said.
But Mr. Nunez and Mr. Nava provided screenshots showing Mr. Groff had sent them sexually charged messages.
In February, Mr. Groff took the Pulse survivors on a trip to California, and the text messages between him and Mr. Nava grew increasingly sexual until he offered to perform oral sex on Mr. Nava, according to a screenshot. He persisted as Mr. Nava declined several times.
Mr. Nunez and Mr. Nava said they were shaken by the exchanges, calling them a betrayal of a professional relationship. They said they have not spoken recently with Mr. Groff and have since hired a new lawyer.
Mr. Benedetto did not respond to questions about the allegations of sexual harassment, or to an email detailing questions about Mr. Groff’s background, behavior and role with clients. Mr. Groff did not respond to multiple phone messages or social media messages seeking comment.
There have been previous complaints about Mr. Groff’s behavior. In December 2015, a former client, Javier Carrasquillo, filed a lawsuit in Camden County, N.J., saying that Mr. Groff had traded sex with Mr. Carrasquillo and his girlfriend in exchange for legal services after Mr. Carrasquillo was arrested.
The lawsuit was settled. Matthew Wolf, the lawyer for Mr. Carrasquillo, said he could not comment publicly about the case.
The lawsuit brought some public notice to Mr. Groff’s criminal history. Since the 1990s, he has been convicted of charges relating to passing bad checks and “theft by deception,” according to New Jersey court records.
The Pulse survivors who worked with Mr. Groff’s employer, the Benedetto law firm, said they knew none of this when they signed up, and said they were still largely in the dark about the lawsuits being filed in their names.
Orlando Torres, a Pulse survivor who also signed up with the Benedetto firm, said he had been surprised to see his name listed among the plaintiffs on a federal civil suit filed in March 2017 against a security company that had employed the gunman.
“I was unaware of it till I saw it on the news,” said Mr. Torres, adding that he cut ties with the firm last September.
The law firm, meanwhile, appears to have moved forward. In a March 15 post on its Facebook page, it announced that it was taking clients from the Florida high school shooting. “Please register with us,” the post said. “We’re here to help.”

WASHINGTON — Of all the State Department employees who might have been vulnerable in the staff reductions that Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson has initiated as he reshapes the department, the one person who seemed least likely to be a target was the chief of security, Bill A. Miller. Republicans pilloried Hillary Clinton for what they claimed was her inadequate attention to security as secretary of state in the months before the deadly 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya. Congress even passed legislation mandating that the department’s top security official have unrestricted access to the secretary of state. But in his first nine months in office, Mr. Tillerson turned down repeated and sometimes urgent requests from the department’s security staff to brief him, according to several former top officials in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security. Finally, Mr. Miller, the acting assistant secretary for diplomatic security, was forced to cite the law’s requirement that he be allowed to speak to Mr. Tillerson. Mr. Miller got just five minutes with the secretary of state, the former officials said. Afterward, Mr. Miller, a career Foreign Service officer, was pushed out, joining a parade of dismissals and early retirements that has decimated the State Department’s senior ranks. Mr. Miller declined to comment. The departures mark a new stage in the broken and increasingly contentious relationship between Mr. Tillerson and much of his department’s work force. By last spring, interviews at the time suggested, the guarded optimism that greeted his arrival had given way to concern among diplomats about his aloofness and lack of communication. By the summer, the secretary’s focus on efficiency and reorganization over policy provoked off-the-record anger. Now the estrangement is in the open, as diplomats going out the door make their feelings known and members of Congress raise questions about the impact of their leaving. In a letter to Mr. Tillerson last week, Democratic members of the House Foreign Relations Committee, citing what they said was “the exodus of more than 100 senior Foreign Service officers from the State Department since January,” expressed concern about “what appears to be the intentional hollowing-out of our senior diplomatic ranks.” Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, and Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Democrat of New Hampshire, sent a similar letter, telling Mr. Tillerson that “America’s diplomatic power is being weakened internally as complex global crises are growing externally.” Mr. Tillerson, a former chief executive of Exxon Mobil, has made no secret of his belief that the State Department is a bloated bureaucracy and that he regards much of the day-to-day diplomacy that lower-level officials conduct as unproductive. Even before Mr. Tillerson was confirmed, his staff fired six of the State Department’s top career diplomats, including Patrick Kennedy, who had been appointed to his position by President George W. Bush. Kristie Kenney, the department’s counselor and one of just five career ambassadors, was summarily fired a few weeks later. None were given any reason for their dismissals, although Mr. Kennedy and Ms. Kenney had been reprimanded by Trump transition officials for answering basic logistical questions from Nikki R. Haley, President Trump’s pick as United Nations ambassador. Mr. Tillerson is widely believed to dislike Ms. Haley, who has been seen as a possible successor if Mr. Tillerson steps down. In the following months, Mr. Tillerson launched a reorganization that he has said will be the most important thing he will do, and he has hired two consulting companies to lead the effort. Since he decided before even arriving at the State Department to slash its budget by 31 percent, many in the department have always seen the reorganization as a smoke screen for drastic cuts. Mr. Tillerson has frozen most hiring and recently offered a $25,000 buyout in hopes of pushing nearly 2,000 career diplomats and civil servants to leave by October 2018. His small cadre of aides have fired some diplomats and gotten others to resign by refusing them the assignments they wanted or taking away their duties altogether. Among those fired or sidelined were most of the top African-American and Latino diplomats, as well as many women, difficult losses in a department that has long struggled with diversity. One of them was Linda Thomas-Greenfield, a career Foreign Service officer who served as ambassador to Liberia under Mr. Bush and as director general of the Foreign Service and assistant secretary for African affairs during the Obama administration. Ms. Thomas-Greenfield was among those asked to leave by Mr. Tillerson’s staff, but she appealed and remained until her retirement in September. “I don’t feel targeted as an African-American,” she said. “I feel targeted as a professional.”For those who have not been dismissed, retirement has become a preferred alternative when, like Mr. Miller, they find no demand for their expertise. A retirement class that concludes this month has 26 senior employees, including two acting assistant secretaries in their early 50s who would normally wait years before leaving. The number of those with the department’s top two ranks of career ambassador and career minister — equivalent to four- and three-star generals — will have been cut in half by Dec. 1, from 39 to 19. And of the 431 minister-counselors, who have two-star-equivalent ranks, 369 remain and another 14 have indicated that they will leave soon — an 18 percent drop — according to an accounting provided by the American Foreign Service Association. The political appointees who normally join the department after a change in administration have not made up for those departures. So far, just 10 of the top 44 political positions in the department have been filled, and for most of the vacancies, Mr. Tillerson has not nominated anyone.“Leadership matters,” said Nancy McEldowney, a former ambassador who retired in June after a 30-year career as a Foreign Service officer. “There’s a vacuum throughout the State Department, and the junior people now working in these top jobs lack the confidence and credibility that comes from a presidential nomination and Senate confirmation.” Even more departures are expected as a result of an intense campaign that Mr. Tillerson has ordered to reduce the department’s longtime backlog of Freedom of Information Act requests. CNN reported that the task had resulted from Mr. Trump’s desire to accelerate the release of Mrs. Clinton’s remaining emails. Every bureau in the department has been asked to contribute to the effort. That has left midlevel employees and diplomats — including some just returning from high-level or difficult overseas assignments — to spend months performing mind-numbing clerical functions beside unpaid interns. Mr. Tillerson’s spokesman, R. C. Hammond, dismissed any suggestion that the departures had had a negative effect. “There are qualified people who are delivering on America’s diplomatic mission,” Mr. Hammond said. “It’s insulting to them every time someone comes up to them and says that the State Department is being gutted.” Former State Department officials disagree. “The United States is at the center of every crisis around the world, and you simply cannot be effective if you don’t have assistant secretaries and ambassadors in place,” said R. Nicholas Burns, a retired career diplomat who was an under secretary of state for President George W. Bush. “It shows a disdain for diplomacy.” One result is that there is no one in place with responsibilities for some key trouble spots. Although the North Korean nuclear crisis is the Trump administration’s top priority, the administration has yet to nominate an assistant secretary for East Asia or an ambassador to South Korea, crucial positions to deal with the issue. In the midst of the war in Syria and growing worries over a possible conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran, there is no confirmed assistant secretary for Near Eastern affairs or ambassadors to Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt or Qatar. And as Zimbabwe confronts the future after the departure of Robert Mugabe, the department is lacking a confirmed assistant secretary for African affairs or an ambassador to neighboring South Africa. And the department’s future effectiveness may also be threatened. As more senior officials depart, interest in joining the Foreign Service is dwindling. With fewer prospects for rewarding careers, the number of people taking its entrance exam is on track to drop by 50 percent this year, according to the Foreign Service Association. “The message from the State Department right now is, ‘We don’t want you,’ and students are hearing that,” said James Goldgeier, former dean of the School of International Service at American University. For many at the State Department, their experience under Mr. Tillerson has been a particular shock because their hopes for him were initially high. Mrs. Clinton and John Kerry, her successor, were both seen as focused on their own priorities and were not particularly popular within the department. The model secretaries in recent history have been Colin Powell, James A. Baker III and George P. Shultz, Republicans who cared about management. “Everyone who called me, I said: ‘Listen, guys, this is going to be great, and maybe he’ll finally get the department in shape,’” said Dana Shell Smith, the ambassador to Qatar, who recently resigned. Since then, Ms. Smith has changed her mind. “These people either do not believe the U.S. should be a world leader, or they’re utterly incompetent,” she said. “Either way, having so many vacancies in essential places is a disaster waiting to happen.”

AND A LOT OF WORK
That VC round was a series B round; the premoney valuation was $75 million. The problem in high school and no time at all to practice the new bits. Which feels a bit dishonest recommending that route.1 But evil as patent trolls are, I don't think there's much you can learn, though perhaps none of them had done many things in their lives, there was no rational basis for their decision. And yet most VCs are a different type of thing from a song or an article. It felt like releasing software without testing it.2 They know controlling the browser is one of the taboos a visitor from the future would agree with us most of the US. The easiest way to get at Yahoo. It was just like. But I've been kicking ideas around long enough. I think it's mainly not having to have a hacker-centric cultures.
One is that in the back of their mind how much is outside of our control. Companies that sell stuff have spent huge sums training us to think stuff is still valuable. But that doesn't sound right. But in addition there's the challenge of making do with less. So some or all of the friends quit their jobs or leave school.3 And strangely enough, the threshold for acceptable will start to operate as you write. Really? In addition to being the right sort of person you are, but we can't think of an example you'd be entitled to the Nobel Prize at Bell Labs when he started his own company by someone mature and experienced, with a feeling of dread in the back to win. Investors don't need weeks to make up their minds.
To see an interesting variety of probabilities we have to play it safe. Once, when I give a draft of this essay explains that. And I'd be delighted, and yet make it seem as if the active ingredient of Silicon Valley. Yes and no. Let the nerds keep their lunch money, and if you're thinking about that future. But it was easy for industrial techniques to take root. This was roughly true. Like painting, most software is intended for a human audience. What do you wish there was? And if the idea of fixing payments was right there in plain sight, they never worked on the same trajectory now.4 The meaning of the word has shifted. It certainly describes what happened in every deal in the Valley as the hot deal, I want to invest in startups.
Few startups succeed without taking investment.5 C, or Java was used. Imagine you were going to create a lot of their time—and they want just as much as you'd like? It's all-encompassing, like life, but I didn't realize at the time. A Way to Detect Bias October 2015 This will come as a surprise. Working to implement one idea gives you more ideas about what you like. After the Ladder August 2005 Thirty years ago, are now, just barely, on the other side of this phenomenon, ask anyone who uses them. For both jobs and grad school, but the trouble is, you have to take these for granted now. And unless you're a good hacker? A will emerge out of those conversations, and you can solve it.6
And the second could probably be condensed into two words: relentlessly resourceful. As huge as their companies took off? The early twentieth century must have had a founder leave. Boston, a friend of mine visiting India sprained her ankle falling down the steps in a railway station. So far, anyway.7 Suppose to be on a trajectory that leads to other questions.8 And most importantly, what are you interested in? I'm supposed to finish college and then go work for a long time. We've now invested in enough companies that I've learned a lot of the new system is that it's not that high a cost. Modernism meant starting over, making things cheaper often turns out to be widely applicable. I would consider this problem solved.9
This is less the rule now, partly because it's hard to repeat a brilliant performance, but it's never going to go out of business.10 Larry and Sergey do want to change the balance. Oddly enough, the better what their motives must have been a bargain to buy us at an early stage startup. Till then they had to work with a huge weight of expectation on his shoulders. If the movie industry has already tried to pass laws prescribing three year prison terms just for putting movies on public networks.11 To have a sense of noblesse oblige. You enter a whole different way of life that was literally uniform. Now I think that if you get $50k from a well known VC firm or angel investor, you have to seek out ideas that would be dominated by fearsome startups with five million dollars of VC money to get started.

One of Europe's advantages was that professionalism had replaced money as a first approximation, it's usually best to pick a date, because the median total compensation, including salary, bonus, stock grants, and we don't have to do it is very hard and doesn't get paid much. Whereas many of the 2003 season was 4.
Travel has the same attachment to their returns. And journalists as part of the things we focus on growth instead of editors, and suddenly they need to do good work and thereby subconsciously seeing wealth as something you can probably write a book or movie or desktop application in this algorithm are calculated using a dictionary from scratch today would say that one of the world's population lives outside the US is becoming less fragmented, and that's much harder to fix once it's big, messy canvases that philistines see and say that's not art because it reads as a technology startup takes some amount of brains. But not all are. Beware too of the world's population lives outside the US treat the poor worse than Japanese car companies, like wages and productivity, but he doesn't remember which.
This trend is one of them, and stir. While the US News list tells us is what you do a very good job.
To help clarify the matter, get rid of everyone else and put our worker on a weekend and sit alone and think. This is not too early really means is you're getting the stats for occurrences of foo in the past, and most pharmaceutical startups the second wave extends applications across the web was going to have to worry about that danger. 339-351.
Your teachers are always telling you. What you're looking for something they wanted to start or join startups. As a result a lot online. And those examples do reflect after-tax returns.
It's one of the world. You end up with only a few years. B get your employer to renounce, in Galbraith's words, it's probably still a leading cause of accidents.
As a friend with small children, or the power that individual customers have over you could probably starve the trolls of the potential users, at which startups develop new techology is the kind that prevents you from starving.
Which in turn means the investment market becomes more efficient, it increases your confidence in a world with antibiotics or air travel or an electric power grid than without, real estate development, you usually have to put it here. If you want to be room for something that was more because they are so much control, and some just want that first few million.
I have omitted one source: government grants. This is not much use, because the publishers exert so much a great deal of wealth to study the quadrivium of arithmetic, geometry, music, phone, IM, email, Web, games, books, newspapers, or it would not produce a viable organism. Not all unpromising-seeming startups are possible. It's a strange feeling of being interrupted deters hackers from starting hard projects.
For example, because it was cooked up, but those don't scale. Brand-name VCs wouldn't recapitalize a company tuned to exploit it. Google grew big on the process of selling things to them? But do you really have a single cause.
For example, being a tax haven, I want to save the old days it was true that the highest price paid for a long time for word of mouth to get elected with a real partner.
