It seems like conditions out there aren't ideal for life at all, but fungi seem to adapt to anywhere, any interesting mycology outside the outpost? Any that's bothered your adorable plants?

A few small species can survive out there yes! It’s always a delight to see orange bubbling from underneath grey rocks, and to wonder about the mycelium beneath.

But fungi are a big part of my work! You’re right in that they can seem to thrive anywhere, in fact my current fungi task is working on perfecting what I’m nicknaming “Gamma Guzzlers”. Trying to harness that mushroom resilience.

These little shrooms can feed on radiation, and the hope is that by selective and accelerated breeding, I can create a super species that could potentially mop up a lot of fallout. I have planted a few colonies outside, and results so far have been fantastic! Luckily ■■■■ speeds up the breeding process greatly, it’s almost as if I have evolution itself as part of my toolset. I can monitor the melanin levels being produced, how they react to the radiation, and so far it has been going great.

As for outside species contaminating my greenhouse, luckily we are yet to face that problem! The airlocks into the facility are really sterile and thorough, this work is incredibly delicate and external forces could very much meddle with the little ecosystem.

I didn't have someone claiming that only royalty at Versailles were allowed any access to toilet facilities, and everyone else had to walk around with miniature chamber pots strapped to their butt under their dress (men were apparently outta luck!) on my "Versailles myth" bingo card, and yet here we are.

Anyone that knows Ben Franklin was at Versailles knows that man would have written home immediately wbout how the women at Versailles walk around with teeny-weeny chamber pots strapped to their bodies underneath their dresses.

Abigail Adams, too, for that matter. Just for different reasons...

About your plasma shear project: are you making the blade adjustable, or is it gonna be a fixed size one?

Oh yeah, the plasma shear! I made a post about it here a while ago.

For right now, it doesn’t look like I can make it much bigger than it is right now. This thing EATS power like you wouldn’t believe, so sustaining a larger blade may be tricky. The power bank it’s hooked up to, while it still fits into a backpack like holder, is still quite big. Anything larger would have to be hooked up to mains for sure. But, like any other girl, I have always dreamed of owning a large plasma sword. If I can make it a little more efficient, maybe one day, haha. The shear is really just a side thing right now though, so I should probably save any breakthroughs for my assignment. And for now I can excuse needing a pair of shears for the greenhouse, what reasons would I have to build a sword??

it's just that my school is being a b word, so they decided to hold exams earlier than other schools. but the exams haven't even started yet
