An Alone!Ghost art piece came up on my feed and it made me think of some type of horror au for Alone!Ghost x Dust Mite. Maybe something inspired off of Silent Hill? Dust Mite who finds themselves lost in this nightmarish realm trapped inside of an abandoned military base that's been overtaken by ghoulish monsters. Having to fight for their life against unspeakable and sickening horrors. Trying to find a way out of this nightmare. Who is being hunted down by a figure that looks familiar in a way of a person existing within a dream. A face that you know but have never seen in the waking realm.

I'm here to ask you about you Bastard Children of Bones Riley AU before you explode. So, could you please tell me about your AU?

ABSOLUTELY I CAN

So this all started in DMs with Atohi (@/atohii, not actually tagging because I don't want to spam you, my love) who got me into Call of Duty in the first place. It was his special interest and I was like "oh, to show my love for my partner, I should learn more about what he's interested in" you know, as one does. And now it's my special interest, too.

But here's the thing: for my special interests, I create a metric shit ton of OCs. If I have even a vague idea for a character, it's spiralling out of control. This is how Lennie, the all-seeing Irish cryptid Chief of Logistics & Supply officer on the 141's home base, came into being. AND it's how I came up with Cam.

This is Cameron "Cam" Love Davis. I was using this avatar maker app and trying to make a version of Simon, but this one didn't really have the looks I wanted. So I was like "damn he looks like he could maybe be Simon's baby brother, just not Tommy". And then I was like "okay now wait, we all know Ghost's dad is a bastard who regularly slept around, so what if...?"

So Cam is Ghost's trans baby half-brother who felt his life lacked direction and never met Simon but always felt a connection to him. As far as he's aware, Simon's dead - and innocent of the Riley Murders - and he's following his footsteps into the military trying to make his big brother proud from wherever he's looking down from. And he does! He follows his brother's footsteps all the way to the 141 where Ghost, who doesn't know he had any half-siblings at all, oversees his training.

And so I was telling Atohi about all this and then I went "lmao you know it would be really funny if after the reveal Cam was just like 'yeah there's dozens of us let me add you to the groupchat'" and then I went "wait, what if...?"

So now, I have this au where there's a discord server with 21 people in it and 2 people too young to join, and the server is titled The Bastard Children of Bones Riley (1962-2015, RIH) and they all have the same dad and they all hate him and none of them ever met the Riley brothers even though they all knew they were related. (The youngest kid was born after the massacre, so she never had the chance to meet them.) In some versions of this au, the older ones all met for the first time when they showed up at Bones' grave for desecration purposes. (Most of them also brought flowers for Tommy, Beth, Simon, Joey, and Simon's mom's graves.)

And for Ghosts fans, I made the oldest of the Bastard Children have a mom who was an American tourist and went back to the States and had one Keegan Russ. So Keegan and Simon are half-brothers in this au, and Ghost Team does still exist, they just came into being under different circumstances and haven't interacted with the 141. Yet.

Dust Mite is also American, and like Sparrow, also spent most of their years growing up on the land of the red, white and blue. However, due to a speech impediment that they have that gives them a lisp, they've got an accent that can be mistaken for a few different things. One of those being a British accent. However, not quite.

When he speaks to the team, sure he sounds normal enough to them, but there's still just something slightly off with how he pronounces his words that makes it not sound just right.

"Why'd you sound like that?" Ghost interrupts Dust Mite's ramblings about something or another. Ghost wasn't really paying attention. More focused on the way the janitor said their words rather than what those words actually were saying.

Dust Mite tilts their head in that signature way that reminds Ghost of a mutt. Brows a bit darker than their light-ashy blond hair knit together with a look of confusion. And an unsure smile pulls at their chapped and chewed on lips. "What?"

"The way you speak, it's weird." Ghost bluntly repeats himself. Even having the gall to sound slightly annoyed with the fact that he's having to repeat himself.

He feels like he was punched in the gut when a look of discomfort flashes across Dust Mite's face. But as soon as it was there, it was gone. Replaced by their usual easy going grin, and a nonchalant shrug of their shoulders. Their gray eyes looking away from where Ghost stood leaning against a wall to instead look down at their scuffed up sneakers.

"Ah, that. No'fing interesting or anything. Just a stupid speech impediment, tongue tied." Dust Mite explains. Trying to laugh it off but it sounds dry and makes Ghost's hands itch. He suddenly felt like he needed to punch something. Or someone.

Now that Ghost knew, it was like he couldn't no longer not notice it. As Dust Mite continued to explain, going on to make a soft joke about how they had hoped therapy had finally fixed him right up and that maybe they should sign back up for classes, Ghost noticed the little extra effort that was being put into some words. Especially the 'r's and 'th's.

Dust Mite fidgets, and not in their usual way, before pushing themselves off of the wall. "I got wowk- fuck, work. I've got work." Something shined in their eyes as the light reflected off of them. Looking glossy. "I'll taw- talk to you later."

"Wait-" But they were gone. Ghost stared at where the janitor once stood beside him. Unsure of how to feel about the vulnerability he felt he had been unwillingly let in on. Like he had unceremoniously ripped away a bandage from a deep and still healing wound. He really wanted to punch something now.

Just Some Guy (Carry On, Snowbaz, sorta (and Matt/Leslie??))

THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND HIMSELF. No, I'm not talking about Simon "Chosen One" Snow, but about our boi Matty Chris D. He is just some guy. It's Simon and Baz's canon 7.25 years at Watford from a perspective of an OC who couldn't care less about them, which led to some humourous situations. Dre, you actually motivated me to finish this story by giving me ideas for certain situations. I think this is one of the funniest ideas I've ever had and I'm glad with how it ended up.

Time After Time (Carry On, Snowbaz)

Time to go to the other MCD: Major Character Death. This idea had been in the back of my mind ever since Wayward Son got released and we didn't know whether Bazzy was immortal, so I played with it. Simon dies in the White Chapel and is Capital D Dead. No magic can bring him back kind of dead. He and Baz meet every 20 years when the Veil lifts. I think this fic was really challenging, because I had no idea how to end it, but I am glad that it kind of got 2 endings and it works. fatalfangirl on AO3 called this "upsettingly romantic" and I am inclined to agree. There's just this ache of looming heartbreak over the entire fic.

Step aside MCD (Matt Christopher Davis), because I think this is the funniest thing I've written. It's a non-magickal textfic. I am a sucker for textfics/epistolary fics so it's wack I've never tried one myself. It's, uh, filled with Little Numbers references because I can. I just loved writing the gang (Penny, Shep, Niall, Dev) being batshit insane at times and I loved adding ridiculous memes and lines to this. Even coming up with groupchat names was a hoot. AND since it's a textfic, I didn't have to worry about typos! Formatting was hell, though, but it was so worth it. Also, Simon/Fish OTP.

All shall know the wonder (Check, Please!; Zimbits)

This is actually, probably, my favourite Zimbits fic that I've written. It's the oldest on this list. I published it in 2020, but I think I started on it in 2019. I had a huge interest in Deaf culture in the late 2010s (I hate writing it like that) and that led to this fic. Jack is Deaf, so never joined the SMH. He still likes to play, though, and he and Bitty, who is on the team, meet at Faber at 4am on a Sunday. I loved writing this fic and I am glad that other people who know more about Deaf culture and ASL (yes, Jack is Canadian, but it's explained why he also uses ASL) also liked it. Oh, and I am a bitch for Camilla Collins, so I am glad I was able to give her a role in this fic. Camilla/Shruti is probably my Check, Please! crack ship.

Ljubim te (Glee, Klaine)

I genuinely love this fic, which is why I am so bummed about the fact that the sequel isn't going as swimmingly. Kurt and Blaine meet in Ljubljana, since I used to live there for 6 months, so it's a great way for me to reminisce over my time there. The story is mostly about comphet and the idea of exploring comphet actually came from Simon/Agatha. In this fic, Blaine and Quinn totally believe they're straight and into each other, ignoring the signs that *narrator voice* they are, in fact, not straight. I loved writing Blaine/Quinn (AS FRIENDS!).
