It was during a paperwork day and Penny was scrolling when she found an article on one of her favourite artists with a man that look remarkably like the BAU’s resident genius

So she hastily gets up and stomps out of her office to call for Spencer

When he comes to her office confused, not knowing what at all Garcia could want, he softly closes the door and turns back towards her stern face

“What did you-”

“How could you not tell me?!”

“Tell you what?”

“That apparently things went well with Y/N? And that the reason you stayed a few extra days in New York was to see her?!”

A woman he recognized, having been on the case of catching her stalker, not to mention that her face was everywhere at the moment

“Derek Morgan.”

“Y/N.”

“Um, you’re looking for Spencer.”

Sometimes we have to dig deeper on charts like being water - water or fire - fire isnt always enough . There are many aspects called trine , sextile, square etc2 and u know what even if the chart has many compatible indicators between two people , one bad aspect in the chart can literally be the reason for hating eachother or smthing bizzare in the relationship. So i think energies from real life interaction is needed + we need to look at the chart too ( so we can avoid them if they have bad aspects) . what’s your OTP for your muse(s)?

Neya & Thor are the only two applicable options here when it comes to things outside platonic/familial relationships. Opacho is 5 and Jack is also just a baby, but she's like best frienemies with Faolan. I know when you hear OTP its usually referring to romance but I'm super big on platonic relationships being OTPs!

That being said Neya x chemistry, she's not overly complex but Neya is a kind-hearted and deeply supportive type of character who despite often being in situations where she's in way over her head, is willing to persevere and overcome whatever obstacle that may be, especially when it involves people she cares about! If our characters build a relationship through our writing then I will never say no to it! This also applies to Thor! They have a good relationship built through us writing together and/or chatting about stuff via messages I'll never say no.

Hoo boy ok. So, Neya, for her era (and the author even states this in the manga) at 16 she's considered an adult. On that alone I'd do 2 years younger and 4 years older cause I'm just trying to think of how it'd be from her time period. Now, this ONLY applies specifically for [main verse || itsuwaribito] when she's in her canon universe or some other feudal-era settings. I understand she's still 16 and other people don't vibe with that, I don't force anything on people (at least not intentionally, if you ever feel like I write something that makes you uncomfortable please tell me!) and romance is never my first or main priority, I like crushes/gradual friends to dating/lovers etc when writing anyway. This also obvi needs to be discussed first cause duh. Also, I'm fine with like 'x character looks 16/17 but is actually 100+ years old' (I’m an Inuyasha girly uwu, so we love a good demon/immortal s/o pairing).

For the verse where she's stuck in the future, [verse || under a rock] she is by modern-day laws legally underage. I'd go for 2 at most maybe 3 years older, 1 year younger. For the sub-main verse set at the end of the series with her running her village [verse || nanushi] she's canonically an adult there so I can deal with 10 years older or whatever and when it comes to the monsters/demons/immortal characters, so long as both parties are consenting adults it's cool!

Thor's a talking rodent. He's adult age and would be considered a young adult by human standards I suppose. So as long as the other creature is adult-aged it wouldn't matter to him. I can't put too much thought into this one, trying to make the math make sense is gonna hurt my brain, but obviously NO child-age creatures.

Coschu x Surgechu was fun and I miss them :') Also, Thor and Elysia in general were my favorite platonic OTP that could have easily become romantic cause they loved and cared for each other so much as best friends who could have just as easily become something more if they wanted to </3

Hmm, not really? I have a very chill and go-with-the-flow type of mindset when it comes to building relationships and shipping in general. The more our characters interact, get to know each other and the closer they become the better! If there's ever a certain aspect of their relationship you wanna discuss with me privately or plot, then just shoot me a message!

Also, I never assume anything so if you're invested off the rip in wanting to pursue the ship beyond them being friends then once again just message me. I've only had two (2) actual ships during my entire time here on this site. I have a bad case of anxiety brain when it actually comes to shipping and I never wanna assume or push anyone into doing anything so it's rare I ever approach. I'll just sit and vibe and settle with my time in the friendzone while making up scenarios in my head like the dork I am.

Ok, after getting some answers on what multishipping is from an RP standpoint, I want to say yes I am. I'd have no issues with having multiple ship partners. Every character interaction is like in their own separate universes so like I can't understand limiting myself as a single ship. This is subject to change but like I said, I barely have any shipping experience.

More-or-less! As stated above I don't really ask or approach first for ships soooo if it happens it happens. I'm down for shipping off of chemistry through a gradually built relationship!

I find Sakura very shippable. Like, I have about 5 main ships I read/write, but I love her with a number of others. Namely:

My friendship pairings, where I have MAJOR hard-ons for her and their friendships (when done right obvi) are:

This man is *chef kiss*. I'm a sucker for Non-Mass fics & when Shisui is alive. I'm a ✨whore✨ for their friendship and dynamic.

But the point of this post is to explain my thoughts on Itachi x Sakura. I think they can work romantically - non-mass & mass - and think their dynamic works.

I think her learning the truth about the massacre and showing him the love and acceptance he deserves is beautiful. He's not used to kindness and he deserves to have someone as loving as Sakura. I also think if the Uchiha's were alive, Mikoto would be playing match maker to make sure Sakura ends up an Uchiha in one way or another (( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) hehehe)

~BUT I ALSO THINK~

That he would be the best supporting brother figure. Whether she would end up with Sasuke or someone else, I feel like he'd be a great brother to her. He'd train with her, make sure she doesn't kill herself training when his brother and Naruto go off on their own training, bring her little gifts when she's down & he can't come up with words, and is oddly protective of her.

Like that is CATNIP for me - along with Sakura and Shisui helping Itachi realize he likes Izumi and supporting his clumsy attempts at woo-ing her. It's so sweet. My poor child deserves to be happy and pain free, even if it's only in fanfic.

Hey!!!! Welp. You’re asking about my girl Abi so you know I’ll ramble. Hell. It’s an essay now. Long post First things first - it’s hard to comment on Abigail being shipped with canon characters only because she’s a “forced” loner. No one, especially the women, talks to her very often except for Sadie and Tilly. The only men who talk to her besides John, later on, is Hosea and Arthur as far as saying something besides a greeting. She really seems like an outcast. 

But YES. Abigail gives me mega bisexual energy, too. If it wasn’t for John and her true love for him, I can see her maybe being a lesbian. DON’T KILL ME!! iT’S JUST AN OPINION. I can explain this later if someone wants.

 I think she loves John, and I maybe see her with Arthur but more like a platonic marriage. Those did exist back then.

When I read Arthur’s comments about wanting to marry Abigail, I did not see or sense any romantic notions. I took it more as “Let me step up for her because she needs a man and the boy needs a father”. Yes, he mentioned Mary, but I still don’t really think it’s love. I think it’s guilt over the women he’s failed in the past.  LH Arthur lusts after her, but he also lusts after Tilly, Mary-Bet, Karen, and Sadie so I don’t give that much credence. Back on topic, she really seems like she would do better with a woman/someone in the LGBT community. They might be more understanding of her struggles. Not guaranteed since women can be misogynistic...

Below is what she would look for in a relationship and what it would look ife she dated each member of the gang.

BUT She has a greater chance for equality. I think she constantly has to worry about what men want or viewing her as just an “easy piece of ass” because of her past. (I definitely believe Abigail was forced into her profession.) That or men think she’s manipulating them. On top of that, her dating a woman could partially stop these claiming she’s stringing/ manipulating men, imo. She could still do it to her LGBT+ partner if one really wants to follow that thought, but Again. Equal footing.   

 I think she’d have fewer communication issues as well. While Abigail does have her moments where I hardcore disagree with her, I overall think she’s a very depressed woman who only wants what's best for her son. She repeatedly denies her own chances for happiness telling John she doesn’t care what happens to her. She just wants Jack to be okay. She’s also absolutely devoted to those who show her any shred of kindness.  I think Abigail can also be far more vulnerable with a woman. I think with men, she doesn’t really feel safe enough. I think she shows this with John, but she seems to think it’s risky? Like she’ll get soft and then act like she wasn’t being soft. I don’t get it. John doesn’t make fun of her for any kindness/softness. He loves it and is very loving!! They are the best together when they snuggle at bedtime. Other than that, she’s surrounded by men and I feel like she would think that she can’t “afford” to appear too soft. Like she’ll be sweet with him and then seems to try to say something to appear tough again, imo. I admit, I sometimes struggle to ship her with others but that’s because she seems so much older than she really is. I was stunned when I realized she’s 22 in the main story and wasn’t even 40 when she passed. The ladies, John, Sean, and Lenny just seem so much younger than her. (She’s not interested in Bill or Micah, obvi.) I think it’s because she’s a pessimist who has seen so much of the bad of the world. I’m not saying the other ladies haven’t! but I think they still have hope where Abigail doesn’t. Sadie understands a lot of the shit Abigail went through and Abigail seems to understand her very well. They respect each other and realize that A. Abigail isn’t just a “naggy mother” and that Sadie isn’t “a crazy bitch”. I can see them working well, but I think Abigail doesn’t want a person of action like Sadie. She would want Sadie to give up Bounty Hunting and I don’t see Sadie doing something like that. I think if they could get over that then it would be easier.   I don’t think Sadie does. Sadie seems to want to travel and go on adventures. It’s why she leaves Beecher’s Hope. IDK if she’d actually settle down on a homestead again. There’d have to be a lot of negotiation. Sadie is also very firey and stubborn so if there are fights, I think they could get ugly - but I think they’d be able to work it out. I Just think maybe Jake was a bit softer and able to reach a different side of Sadie. Sadie and Abi are like watching two powerhouses. 

I can see her more with someone like Tilly because they are both strong women who are brave, kind, selfless, logical. They don’t take shit. They also both value stability, love, and family. Tilly is also constantly helping with Jack and adores him. I think Abigail trusts Tilly the most with Jack after Arthur and Hosea. On top of that, Tilly can give Abigail push back and has an interesting dialogue with her. She doesn’t just accept Abigail’s pessimism. She’s very firm and mature whereas a lot of the others aren’t as much. I can see them calmly talking disputes out and if not, I don’t see Tilly putting up with Abigail if she’s having a temper tantrum of sorts. I love Abigail, but she does get overly emotional sometimes. They’re both very kind, selfless, and intelligent. I don’t think Tilly judges Abigail and I think Abigail really appreciates that. I think Arthur, Tilly, and Hosea are the people who interact with Jack the most. The others don’t as often so that’s a point against any of the other women. That’s big because Jack is her number 1 priority. 

I can’t comment on Mary-beth because I’m biased. I think Mary-Beth’s flightiness would really bother Abigail. (But it bothers me IRL so I might be biased. I’ve been compared to Abigail before. Yes, I know it’s weird.) Trying to be impartial - but I think she’d find herself parenting Mary-Beth.  ”Mary-Beth,you need to go do chores. Mary-beth, please come help me with this. Mary-Beth, we have bills to pay. Seriously. Put the book down and help with these chores. Mary-Beth, thanks for helping Jack with his reading, but why don’t we talk? Okay, maybe not......”  I think Abigail might do okay with Molly. She seems to think that Molly is a little pampered and naive. However, she never bashes Molly once and actually expresses worry for her. Same with Tilly feeling sorry for Molly. She’s very kind to Molly and I wish we could see them interact more. She and Molly actually have a few things in common like their love for the better things in life, the desire for stability, both having troubles with men, etc.  But IDK for sure! I feel like Molly could easily through Abigail’s past in her face and Abigail throwing Molly’s past in and that would get ugly af. Karen and Abigail is kind of weird combination. They are kind to one another and Karen was supportive of Abigail when Jack was taken.I just don’t see them together. They don’t interact.  ( A lot of them don’t.) If we’re including Miss Grimshaw, they REALLY wouldn’t work. They hardcore don’t seem to like each other and I think it’s because Grimshaw thinks of her as just a lazy whore. I’m not joking. She actually tries to force Abigail back into prostitution. She seems to think Abigail is just a freeloader. In some ways, I can see how Miss Grimshaw would say that. I do agree that Abigail could help with chores in camp - but Mary-Beth and Molly are just as guilty.  I think Abigail needs someone who is a combination of softness and strength. She needs someone who can round her sharp edges and make her feel safe. Someone who lets Abigail know that it’s okay to do things like hold hands, call each other pet names, etc. But she can’t deal with a whiner either. She wants an equal, not someone else to mother and I think that’’s the main complaint with her and John. *until rdr 1 that is.* I think any OC/reader/ would also have to help Abigail with her emotions as far as knowing what to accept and what not to accept. Again, I love Abigail and most times, she has a reason to be angry. People have the right to be crabby as well - but Abigail also has times where she just isn’t rational and needs to be called out. It has to be equal. Not just someone who lets Abigail do what she wants but also not someone who dominates Abigail. 

Fun fact about LGBT women: WLW can easily get away with less shit because they were always viewed as sisterly. I’m not joking. You could l literally kiss a woman or hold hands and people would comment think they’re sisters, cousins, friends, etc.  Men had it far more difficult, but in the Old West, it was very different. Hosea and Dutch could have gotten away with a relationship relatively easily. (As long as they weren’t in the East and avoided the Temperance movement.) Discussing pair-ups is actually fun.

Personally I draw the line at @ing anyone involved or using main tags for shipping purposes. And also I always say this is GOSSIP and SPECULATION like obvi we don’t know what’s happening.

But IMO like.... gossip is gossip right. We gossip about our friends irl and shit it’s just human nature.

This poll is simply about the smut itself, the writing, the characterisation during the smutty scenes, etc. Also...this is also the Magic AU round, so feel free to write smut that’s got a little magic involved. 

Voting will be based on your use of each individual trope (including the bonus halloween trope), your use of the theme, and your use of all four (or 5) tropes and the theme combined (best overall), as well as the bonus poll above. There will be also be a question in the poll for ‘most unique pairing’, which includes either romantic or platonic pairings. 

Theme Rules: For this theme, please choose a storyline from canon (Day trip, Memori meeting and then finding each other later, Clarke and Lexa’s political feud, Bellamy’s time as a double agent in S3, any storyline from anywhere within Seasons 1 through 6) and recreate the plot in a ‘magical’ modern setting. Swap out the canon characters for someone else, change the mood or feeling of a storyline, add things in or take things away, it doesn’t need to be identical, but it should follow a similar base plot line as the canon storyline. (Day trip, for example, would be a begrudging adventure between two characters, one of whom has some ulterior motive, and some kind of relationship development should occur between the two characters. Clarke and Lexa’s feud would be a feud between two characters who are in charge of some important thing (political, gang warfare, volleyball teams, you decide) who have real conflict, but must ally for some reason, who then develop a relationship of some kind, with some incredibly large betrayal by one character, and some major repercussions on the other.).  We are looking for the skeleton of the storyline, not an exact replica, be creative with how different characters and a different setting would change the way a storyline played itself out. Please let us know in the note at the top of your fic what storyline you are using, so we can make sure it’s clear, and so we can ensure you followed the theme. 

Trope 4 Notes: We are aware that most canon storylines do not include some kind of love potion/obsession brought on by magic/etc., so this is where we ask you to get creative. We’ve come up with a few examples of how you could fit the trope into canon, but you can also go in a different direction and simply add that into the canon storyline as something extra! Remember, bare bones of the canon plotline, not an exact replica! 

Some examples we came up with include:

Day Trip: the jobi nuts (obvi)

Becho's first meeting + mt weather plot: bellamy gets all kinds of stuff done to him when they bring him into mt weather, so maybe one of them is a sex pollen or love potion or something

Memori's story: when he finds her again in Polis, she has taken the chip, and is influenced by ALIE , so that could be a love potion instead or something

Clarke and Lexa’s storyline: Lexa could be under the effect of a love potion when she decides to ally with clarke, but she comes too before its time and she betrays her because she thinks it’s just the magic

This story is a modern AU and it is loosely based off of my experiences of playing The Sims 4 with the Dragon Riders. My tag for that is ashleybenlove Sims the Dragon Riders. This is also on AO3.

     Astrid growled. Just going to the supermarket to buy groceries meant she was confronted with the tabloid fodder that was currently proclaiming how she was cheating on one of her partners with four other people. Right there, as she was trying to check out. What trash! Not wanting to take it out on the retail clerk who had nothing to do with the tabloid’s contents, Astrid took a deep breath before she completed her transaction.

 It bothered her immensely to see those telephoto shots of her on a date with one of her partners, or kissing them, and then seeing a headline that said, “Trouble in Paradise?” or “Astrid Cheats Repeatedly!!!” or “Astrid Has Multiple Affairs!” or some other version of a clickbait title except with magazines.

 Maybe she should have Fishlegs shop for groceries. He was fantastic at this sort of thing.

 She could have stayed at home, cuddling with some of them. It was much preferable than being confronted by incredibly judgmental and highly inaccurate nonsense.

 At least all her partners knew it was garbage.  

 They knew the truth, and ultimately, that was most important.

 But… ugh, she didn’t want to be seen as a cheater, because it was categorically wrong.

 Plus, as a celebrity, she had to maintain a certain reputation, and unfortunately, she was beholden to public opinion in the way that only famous people are. And given that she used multiple social media accounts, she had to deal with that as well.

 She was currently ignoring her social media accounts.

      “How was grocery shopping?” Fishlegs asked, later, as everyone worked to get their groceries put away.

 “Fine. It would have been great except for tabloids!” Astrid exclaimed. “You were right, you should have gone instead.”

 “I don’t take pleasure in being right about that,” Fishlegs said.

 She probably would have kissed him or he probably would have kissed her if they didn’t have bags full of groceries in their arms.

 “You didn’t run into any paparazzi?” Hiccup asked, putting away various canned food items.

 “I’d be happy to punch some for you,” Snotlout said, sticking various frozen meat items in the freezer.

 “Same!” Ruffnut exclaimed. “I’m always willing to fight paparazzi.”

 “Yes, I certainly saw some inside and outside the store, but I don’t think it’d be good publicity if my partners fought the paparazzi,” Astrid said. She released a sigh.

 “We could always flip the bird on our dates,” Ruffnut said.

 “Flipping the bird!” Tuffnut exclaimed.

 “Or yell at Internet commenters,” Snotlout said.

 “Oh, let me guess, the Internet’s talking about my love life too?” Astrid said. She growled. She did not want to deal with that. Far too overwhelming. The Internet could be overwhelming for anyone, but for a famous person? Even more so.

 Once the groceries were put away, Astrid sat on their lovely large couch, and was surrounded by her partners.

 Astrid sighed happily, snuggling close to them. She felt calm and safe and her worries drifted away.

 This was short-lived.

      Whoops.

 Checking her email was not fun. Ugh.

 She didn’t want to deal with this.

 She was tired of the assumption of cheating.

 And the way people treated women who they assumed were cheating really made her furious.

 She yelled at her computer.

 She wanted to take her computer mouse and throw it at the wall, letting it shatter—

 “Astrid, Internet blackout, remember!” Fishlegs shouted from another room.

 “They’re being misogynistic!” she exclaimed. “And they’re wrong!”

 A few moments later, Fishlegs entered the room she was in, and gently moved his hand to indicate to come with him.

 “Let’s go meditate, hmm?” Fishlegs asked in a calming, soothing voice.

 “I don’t want to meditate; I want to yell at people on the Internet!” Astrid exclaimed.

 “That’s not gonna help, you know that?” Fishlegs said softly. “Come on, we’ll all meditate together. It’ll be nice and soothing.”

 And it was.

 And it provided help to her situation because she realized she had a simple solution to it.

 Considering that she lived in a world where celebrities, such as herself, had social media accounts where they could sound off on their topic of choice, usually to promote their work and to interact with fans.

 She could easily just… come out with the actual truth, instead of letting the tabloids say whatever they want. She was allowed to do that. She would talk to her partners about it first, obviously. Just to make sure no one was outed without their consent.

 Thus, while they were relaxing together, she said, “So, I’ve been thinking about this whole… the tabloids and such think I’m a cheating whore situation.”

 There was definite negative reaction to the slur.

 “Yes, I know they’re misogynist jerks,” Astrid said. “Moving on. I think the best course of action would be if I released a statement, written or video, that is me saying: actually, I am a polyamorous person, and those five people? They’re all my partners. It’s all above-board, they all know about each other, and are dating each other as well. The twins are not dating each other, obvi, blah blah blah.”

 She saw Hiccup in particular nod in response, clearly thinking it made sense. Fishlegs looked to be thinking.

 “I won’t do it unless you all agree,” Astrid said.

 “No pressure,” Ruffnut said, in a teasing, joking tone. She paused and then added, “But all joking aside, I agree with you doing that.”

 “Same, actually,” Tuffnut said.

 “Yeah,” Snotlout said. “Do it.”

 “It’s bothering you, I think it might make you feel better, so I think you should do it,” Fishlegs said. He looked over to Hiccup.

 They all did.

 “I have no problems with it. You should do it. And I definitely agree with Fishlegs. It might make you feel better,” Hiccup said.

 “And I think we’re all in agreement that we want you to feel better,” Fishlegs said. He smiled at her.

 They all smiled at her, in that way that made her feel so loved five times over.

       As a result, Astrid took some time to write out a statement. The statement was meant to be a statement that could be used with or without a video complement. Whilst she definitely had some strong opinions about the media and the press (especially paparazzi), she avoided spending much time on addressing them, since their behavior was generally unlikely to change. She already had a good idea of the media’s response.

 “Astrid Hofferson Breaks Silence!”

 They did that a lot. Especially in the wake of celebrity deaths and responses of celebrities to that death.

 Once she had prepared a statement that she felt was satisfactory she had her partners read it so they could give her any feedback they might have had.

 And once she was fully satisfied with that statement, she set it aside and put it where she could reference it while she made a video.

 “A lot has been written recently about my romantic life. Which, despite the fact that I am a very famous person, I still have a right to privacy. But I still would like to clarify some things, as what has been written is wrong. So, those five people I’ve been seen kissing in paparazzi photos? Those are all my romantic partners. My name is Astrid Hofferson and I am polyamorous. These five people all know about each other, and with the exception of the set of twins I am dating, also date each other. So that’s about the sum of that.”

 Included in her statement was a brief description of polyamory from the Internet, complete with a source so that people who didn’t really understand it could do research on their own. In addition to that, she had hired a professional photographer to take some great photographs of her and her partners, together, smiling and happy. The main purpose of the photo session was to share pictures of her partners and herself on her social media platforms but the gang was incredibly happy and excited with the work the photographer did, that they made sure to get framed versions of the photos to hang in their home and digital versions to keep in their phones.

1. How long have you been writing?

Actually sitting down to type stories out? Eight years old. I've been making shit up since I could talk. I have it on good authority I am entertaining to listen to.

2. What are the major themes of your current wip(s)? LONG ANSWER

omg I really dont know. I spent several hours over several days banging on this question in my head both in front of the computer and away from it only to come to the horrified realisation that I Don't Know. *gay panic*

I know the things I like to write about. I like to write about free exchange of culture, of mutual respect and fraternity with your fellow humans (which leads to themes of unity, unconditional love not only of people but of the world, and the gray area of what it means to protect those things without giving in to hate, indifference and intolerance. THE GRAY AREA IS WHERE I THRIVE.)

I like to write about intergenerational relationships (which leads to themes of obsolescence, changing of the guard, and how people, in general, not individuals, never really change. Like, there's For a Good Time graffiti on the walls at Pompeii. That is HILARIOUS.)

I write a lot about family, both born and found. (Everybody has a place and everybody is loved.) I write about mental illness and being queer (which all by itself leads to themes of not knowing your place in the world even if you have one. Frequently comes up against the previously mentioned theme)

So yeah. I don't know. My big WIP, the Aalee Rise series, is about a young woman on the cusp of adulthood going out into the world for the first time. It's her idealism vs reality. The other main characters in that cast are all foils re: various facets of societal structure and ideologies. One challenges her idea of government, another her idea of religion. She falls in love, her loyalties to her brother and parents are tested, she makes mistakes, she fights monsters and saves the world. A lot.

tldr; It's my sandbox and I just wanted to build castles in it. I don't really know if the castles will mean anything when I'm done. I hope they do.

3. What do you want people to take away from your story once they’ve read it?

My greatest ambition is that I could ever write a hero as beloved as the heroes I read about growing up, figures that reminds not to give up hope, to get back up when we're down, that the dark times ahead of us will come to pass.

At best, if I've done that, I'll be ecstatic and satisfied.

At worst, as long as you had a good time, if you didn't throw the book across the room in disgust, I'll take it.

4. Would you be excited if people write fanfiction about your wip(s)?

YAAAAS. I would literally never read it because Im terrified of accidentally absorbing someone's ideas and making them my own bc Christ alive that's a legal nightmare, but yes that would make my life.

5. What’s your go-to writing beverage?

Tea. Really strong and sweet. I make a fresh quart each morning and usually go through it by the end of day.

6. Who is your favorite oc? Tell me about them!

OMG ALL OF MY CHILDREN ARE PRECIOUS. (it's Aalee.)

Aalee Dering is the eighteen-year-old protagonist of my Aalee Rise series.  When we meet her in volume one (Worldwalk) she and her twin brother are setting off on their coming-of-age journey around the country. Her people, the Noruahai, have defended humanity for generations from unearthly creatures called asmic, and if she wants to become a licensed Marshal like her famous mother (and wow, she really, really does) she'll have to prove herself on her Worldwalk.

Aalee thinks with her heart first and always. She loves beautiful things, and all things are beautiful to her. She's quick to cry and struggles with anger, as well as distraction; she has trouble keeping focus. Good for getting into trouble. Not so good when it comes to being a responsible adult.

It would probably be easier if she wasn't of two minds on every single decision she has to make. She empathises with everyone, which can be paralysing-- how can she fight someone whose point of view she gets?

7. Do you feel that mistakes are important learning tools in the writing journey?

Mistakes are learning tools of life, darling. In writing they generally aren't the types that will destroy friendships, health, financial status, etc, which means they're generally easier to bounce back from. Unless you commit career suicide in some way...

8. Rank your ocs by their capability in a footchase (either running after or from smth, your choice)

1. Fall from the Aalee Rise series. He's a complicated human. Without getting into the context of the world he's from, he's hard to explain; but the short version is he's half-ghost so he can basically turn himself into the wind.

2. Rosie Frey from Color of the Stars but only when she's a lion. In her human form she's pretty normal.

3. Lynn Blythe (or any of the other vampires) from Echoes of Eden, because they're cheating cheaterfaces who use mystical vampy powers to be stronger and faster than humans

4. Sendmarshal Henley from the Aalee Rise series. Probably the fastest regular human. Imagine the most beautiful, tall, leggy black woman you can, all lean muscle and elegant grace, and now imagine her scooping you up and zipping out of danger with an easy smile on her face... *fans self* I stan.

5. When running headlong into danger to save someone? Aalee Dering. When running away? Frustratingly, satirically slow. She's one of those idiot heroes who stops to make sure everyone got away okay so Fall's always running back to grab her ("MOVE, IDIOT" "But that little old lady--" "FIRE-BREATHING MONSTERS. MOVE.")

9. Does your wip have romance? tell me about it!! if not tell me about a friendship/important relationship in your wip!! MORE LENGTHY BLAH

Relationships are the driving force of my writing. How one loves or is loved by other people, how they relate and engage with others, is how one grows, in real life and in fiction. There are a number of relationships in all my series that I'm fond of for various reasons. (For instance, even though she cannot STAND him, I'm eager af to write Eden and Lynn's relationship in Echoes of Eden because of how complicated it is.)

And as a rule all of my characters are queer or questioning unless otherwise stated, and I ship everybody with basically everybody else, and almost everybody has a love story in their history. (at least, their parents certainly do because I am a gross vile romantic and these fuckers came from somewhere.)

That having been said, for the sake of brevity I'll stick with Aalee Rise and limit myself to the Big Three: Aalee and her brother Elles, Aalee and her best friend Norah, and Aalee and Fall.

FAMILY: Aalee and Elles are twins. Born together and never separated, which stands out in a world where families are broken up by chaotic circumstances and random death on a regular basis. Aalee is easily distracted and has difficulty communicating her thoughts, so she tends to act on impulse; Elles is forever the cool head and the hand grabbing her by the back of the shirt to stop her from walking into danger. And after eighteen years of this... he's tired of it. He loves his sister, but he longs to see the world on his own terms, walk his own path. And Aalee doesn't share that sentiment. Not only doesn't share it, but is blown away when it comes into play. Her partner in crime wants to break away, and she does not take it very well. The first volume (Worldwalk) explores how their relationship suffers, grows, and changes due to this break.

FRIEND: Aalee's best friend of ten years is Norah. They met as little girls in a monster-ravaged town; Norah was entertaining the youngest orphans with a story and Aalee joined in. The pair of them spent a long night keeping civilians from panicking while Marshals battled asmic beyond the walls of the bunker. They exchanged addresses and became penpals over the next few years, since both of their parents travelled and they were rarely in the same place at the same time. That changed suddenly when Norah lost her father. Since then, Norah's family and Aalee's have lived in the same town. Norah is her warm hand in the dark, her shoulder to cry on, the first person she tells any good news. for Norah, Aalee is the only person (at the beginning of the story, anyway) with whom she can be her real whole self. They love each other no matter what.

ROMANCE: And then there's Fall. Aalee meets Fall when she rescues him from being murdered in a back alley-- except, oops, turns out it was a sting operation to catch the killer because he's not actually the helpless filthy vagabond she assumed he was; he's actually a powerful Marshal who was on assignment. Stuck together for various reasons, he becomes a mentor to her on her worldwalk, while she blatantly digs into the mystery of who he is, which turns out to complicate their lives, the lives of their friends and families, randos they happens across, their enemies, and also God's. To say they fall in love with each other is an understatement of cosmic proportions. They choose each other.

10. Do you believe in the advice kill your darlings?

Yeah but I take the advice as intended; which is not, as most assume, kill your fave characters, but to get rid of that which does not work, even if you love it. That pearlescent line of dialogue, or that golden bit of allegory? Doesn't matter how much you love it and how proud of it you are, if it does. not. work. it HAS. TO. GO. (save it in a new file to reread when you feel down and scrap that shit from the main file.)

that said re: killing characters, in my youth I was very much of the George RedRum Martin camp of "KILL THEM ALL" but as Ive gotten older my main focal point has been "What purpose does their death serve?" Death is not the only sacrifice worth writing. So while I am not afraid to kill my characters, I do take the nature of their deaths in the writing very seriously. There has to be a point.

11. Do you prefer plotting or worldbuilding? Why?

WORLDBUILDING MANYEXCLAMATIONPOINTSGOHERE! Plotting is like the maths of writing. It's measurement, it's brickwork, it's demolition when the wall you put up last week is three feet too long and now you have to scrap it and start over. Vital. But not my favorite part.

Worldbuilding is the art. It's the music your OCs hum and the stories that they treasure and the faith that holds them up when the crap you throw at them might tear them down. It's the story behind the jacket they wear and it's the reason they nod to the altar when they enter a place of worship and it's the meaning of their names. It's the magic. How the world works, the little details that make it real to the reader because it's real for your characters, is my favorite part of writing.

Writing plans for 2018

i was tagged by @onceuponamirror thank you love and I’m really excited for your writing plans! You should be so proud of what you’ve accomplished so far ❤️

my writing goal for this year is to follow through on things, because I tend to have a lot of ideas or a lot of Beginnings but a lack in motivation to continue, or specifically a lack of confidence. But I really want to start creating some of the content I wish existed instead of feeling disheartened that it’s not out there. So first off:

I will revisit my baker Betty au and refine it. In this, Betty is 30 and has recently moved to Riverdale after having grown up in New York. Her parents both died which sent her into a spiral and culminated in her ending things with her husband (a non-important oc) leaving her fancy job in a NYC restaurant and opening a bakery in a small town. My main goal here is to actually map out an ending and find some semblance of a plot instead of rambling on for 15 pages about personal growth and structural inequality. This is probably a huge indicator that the majority of my writing experience is academic, huh. Lol.

i want to work on a Beverly Marsh centric fic that explores abuse and survival and friendship. It will be an au and if there is a romantic pairing it may end up being Beverly Marsh/Kay McCall and then endgame of course she’s with trans girl Ben Hanscom because I don’t know if I can handle not giving those two a happy ending (in saying that I really don’t want the focus of this story to be romance and will probably be dealing heavily with Bev/Tom because. I have a lot of emotions to work through).

I want to write a losers club student activist au, I was inspired by Richie’s offhand comments about his youthful political leanings toward socialism (idc if it was a joke I take a thing and I run with it thank you and good day). Also write what you know I guess ? I want this fic to be set in the 60s though in order to follow book timeline but that will take a LOT of research so who knows whether this will come to fruition. Like I said. My goal is to follow through.

Lastly a huge project I want to pursue is a Luna/Ginny fic, where they’re in their early forties. Ginny, fresh from a divorce from Harry, her kids all having left home bar Lily who is at Hogwarts, rekindles her friendship with Luna who is travelling to obscure places across the globe to search for a creature of myth. Ginny, only semi believing the creature actually exists, quits her job on a whim and follows Luna. I want this to be 100k+ and it could likely be the biggest thing I’ll ever attempt but I just. I love post-divorce older women finding themselves and the love they want because I genuinely hate the way fandom tends to focus only on finding love in your teens or twenties, and that marriage is like… the End. I want a love story that is only made possible through ending a marriage. (But the divorce between Harry and Ginny is amicable and they remain best friends because ouch I couldn’t like…. have them be anything else). (Anyway). This fic will have: rediscovering joy through drastic life change, travel and fantastical elements (obvi, it’s hp), friends to lovers, blunt but at times oblivious Luna, smitten but at times distant Ginny, camping in the woods and bathing in the rivers, and most importantly ‘This is Not how I thought my life would turn out, but it did, and I’m grateful for that’.

Phew. If I can tackle even one of these projects that would be a Huge accomplishment for me tbqh. But these are the kinds of stories I want to write and want to challenge myself to create.

Kdrama: Tomorrow With You Review

Same age in real life omg I've never seen a pair so perfect.

NO SECOND LEADS. I absolutely love it when the focus is only on the mains, with no pointless distractions or love triangles that go no where. I love it. i rly do

They honestly looked like a legitimate couple, I feel like I could spot several moments when they even broke through their actual characters and ad-libbed it out or something

Many people were also complaining about how slow (I assume they meant relationship progression???) it was, and got annoyed over their "back-and-forth-ness"?? honest to god, yes they were so beautiful that I barely noticed it. But also, it was so logical to me, the process they went through in which they lied to each other & then failed to communicate until later. Like, it didn’t piss me off because it made sense...? I didn’t see anything wrong with it? It went a little like: 

Yoo So-joon hits on her because he knows how they’re connected by death.

He tries to shake her off, but realizes who she really is (a fellow survivor).

He becomes interested again.

THEY FCKING GET MARRIED in FCKING EP 4 IF THAT IS SLOW TO U, THEN STFU AND GTFO

He obvi don’t love her fully, but she’s already heads over heels

She feels suspicious af and he doesn’t tell her stuff (that even his friends know). And he gets angry easily while he tries to protect his ppl, but keeps his secret hidden.

She got sick and he pulls off his romantic but materialistic resolution.

He opens up to her a little bit more and they cry it out.

He makes a wrong move again and then is basically forced to reveal his secret.

She’s like what the actual fuck is wrong with you, but comes to terms with it.

They get closer, but she feels empty because she rly don’t know much about him and he is as careless as ever.

Her heart breaks over the reality of him disappearing so easily.

So-joon is slowly realizing the future that’s in store for them.

Tries to call it quits and play noble idiot, but she won’t take his fake, snarky ass.

So they make up and he really really really realizes that he must change the future, no matter what. He has nothing left for her him but her.

He tries hard. but doesn’t try hard enough.

By the time he disappears & she waits for two years, they are basically one heart.

By the time they reunite they are the cutest couple in the world.

I think a big issue people had with So-joon’s character was that "he didn’t love her" when they got married, but I think that wording is extremely misleading and not entirely accurate. Yes, I don’t think that at that point he could say "I love you" to her with sincerity, but it’s not like he flat out was disgusted by her or hated her…?? It was more like, he was not fully aware of what he was getting himself into, by getting married. Not just to her, but the concept of marriage and the commitments that come with it in the first place. That was what he was not on board with, which is how he may have come off as indifferent. But we all knew that Song Ma-rin would change him for the better because the ones with flawed intuition always get taught a good lesson or two from their loved ones.

I swear I think I counted properly, but they kissed like 9+ times and probably hugged like 15+ times like omfg I’m pretty sure that is a record

Can I also just mention that for me, when a couple wipes each other's tears, like when one of them actually takes their fingers and smushes the falling teardrops, that is just game set. To me, that solidifies their relationship as one where 1) they aren’t embarrassed to cry in front of each other 2) they care enough to show tender affection for each other 3) they sympathize together. And that is exactly what they did. MORE THAN ONCE excuse me.

The Plot

A lot of people complained about the various flaws within the actions of the characters and the mechanics of time-travelling. Honestly… like I mentioned earlier, since the OTP was so convincing to me, the holes in logic kinda flew past my head. Like, I didn’t dissect them too deeply because I was so distracted, or I just didn’t bother

Don’t you see that their progression only felt natural?? You start out with one side that is overconfident about the commitment as if he’s strolling through a park while the other is lovestruck, but always smart enough to know when bullshit is going on, and is never afraid to call the other out for it. It only took a matter of time for them to find real and genuine appreciation for each other, and it was worth it.

"WTF were you thinking moments" & justification:

So-joon letting Song Ma-rin go home by herself while Kim Young-jin was still lurking. Ok I have no solution to this like you honestly....DID YOU NOT LEARN FROM AHJUSSHI THAT YOU BASICALLY GOTTA STICK TO THE PERSON LIKE GUM IF YOU WANT THEM TO BE SAFE?? U HAVE TO HAVE THEM IN UR SIGHTS AT ALL TIMES.

So-joon getting onto subway and ultimately getting stabbed. Ok, he even said himself that he wanted to catch him with his own hands because if he doesn’t now, he'll get away and who knows how much more havoc he could wreak? The police would do no good being there blatantly, and so he had to hold out since he was the bait anyway. He just should’ve been smarter with defense, like c’mon man let’s not get cocky with your fighting skills now.

So-joon letting her run onto the street. Ok yes, he def should’ve reacted faster and realized what kinda danger she would be in after being aware of it for like 2 years aiya. But I assume it was a spur-of-the-moment, blinded happiness kinda thing. They were cute af and they were happy and like who really thinks that hard y’know???

So-joon just bracing himself and Ma-rin for the car crash. He was facing their deaths, I assume. Yes, they could’ve just jumped out of the way, but at the same time, he had already mentioned that he just wanted to enjoy the small moments they have together, instead of always trying to cheat and change fate. If they were meant to die in that moment, he was going to take it as is. (which is lightweight greedy bc wb marin???? but whateves lol).

I really do think that the story-line was extremely tightly woven to begin with. Even up until episode 16, we saw scenes from episode 1, and vice versa; everything fell into place perfectly and the details were down to each minute of their lives. Everything was very clearly thought out and i felt like they picked and pulled at certain pieces at the proper times and revealed others at the most crucial of times, too. Props to the writing team for creating such a complex & dynamic web of characters and events that spanned nearly 3 decades.

The Cinematography

Stunnnningggggg. Especially that iconic moment in episode 1 when he pulled her out of the path of an oncoming truck and talked to her for the first time, like the way the sunlight was hitting the camera, it was just something else I swear.

Overall, the colors were warm and fluffy, but the future def always looked more bleak and dry and dark.  Beautiful dualism with a strong impact.

Also can I just mention that when So-joon disappears, it’s also very mystifying, the fast wisps are quite a touch.

Also ngl the couple themself was extremely aesthetic; like they are both very attractive people & when attractive people cuddle a part of you kinda just dies inside, y’know??

The Emotions

Ok I admit that my reactions were probably overboard because I was so attached

but straight up this is the kind of drama my heart was searching for.

I always love it so so so so much, (although realistically speaking, it’s only fantasy ones that can pull this off w/o it being some noble idiocy shit) when the force that is keeping a couple apart is a force that is greater than themselves. It’s more than them just choosing to not be together. It’s them wanting so desperately to be together, but circumstances, in the best kind, life and death ones, prevent them from doing so. The reason I like these kind of situations so much is seriously because that’s where all the love comes out. The pain of love.

It was so so so soooooo excruciatingly painful to watch So-joon and Ma-rin's future unfold the exact way he saw it would. It tore me to pieces because I could feel Ki-doong's hopelessness from losing his best friend to a murderer, Ma-rin's deathly painful heartbreak from simply NOT knowing what in the world is going on or what will happen (and for her dad to tell her to move on), but just having to wait, and So-joon's very own inability to fix it all. Oh dear lord watching him visit her grave in the future where she no longer exists, that shattered my sanity because it hurt so much.

I literally cried in the smallest of moments. When he disappeared in front of her eyes, I burst into tears along with her because her crying was so beautiful (yes, actually tho), but at the same time, I felt it deep down inside. It felt trivial, to cry over that one moment, but it also meant so much more than that. It represented a real fear of losing your loved one, and o dear lord i can’t.

Like I said, the heartbreak was everything I’ve been wanting. It felt so raw. In those moments where even he cried because he was so scared for the future (after eating in the tent with ahjusshi, calling ahjusshi on the phone in the cafe, reading her letters sent to him from her past self), knowing how much was on the line, and how much he just wanted it to be okay, it hurt so much because I had so much hope along with him. I honestly didn’t expect them to allow their future to play out the exact way he saw it; I rly thought that they’d pull some plot twists because that’s what dramas do......... and so when everything really did unfold painfully, my heart was unprepared and it tore apart. Even though I knew that they would be together in the end no matter what, I didn’t know how, and everything still hurt like fking crazy.

I know a drama does it right when I can feel the pain physically in my own chest. When it suddenly feels so heavy and ache-y that I kinda wanna give up in life a little bit. That's when a drama pulled the right strings & carved a good-sized void in my heart.

The Special Connections

I, tbh only decided to watch this because I found out that Kim Feel, my eternally favorite musician, sang an OST for it, and I was feeling extra down from his military enlistment. What a beautiful gem he brought me to. When his voice played at the still frames in the ends of some episodes, my heart filled with this indescribable sort of happiness and longing.

The "seoul station" that So-joon refers to is actually called Si-cheong station, one I manage to catch a geofilter for back when I was in Korea!!!!!!!!!!! It was an exciting discovery, to find out that the exact route So-joon takes back and forth is one that I have traveled on myself.

Idk if this really has to do with anything, but the director also directed Oh My Ghostess and King of High School, so everyone kept saying that this drama would be a rom com BUT BOY WAS THAT SHIT DARK AS F*CK IDK WHAT Y’ALL HAD IN MIND BUT like, no no, no, that was nowhere close to the other 2 dramas he made. It was a beautiful change of atmosphere nonetheless.

The Message

The fact that Ma-rin is a photographer speaks volumes. For a man who is infatuated with the future and has lost focus of the present, just one photograph can speak volumes. A photograph captures the present and instills a moment in time. For Marin, this is what her life's work depended on; this is what she lived by. Capturing the present and cherishing individual seconds in time. And for So-joon, this is exactly the kind of person he needed to save him from himself and his future selves. So so so beautifully laid out.

Even just the ending line: "today". Like akjfkjdagkahkgdhlanjak, if you don’t get the message from this then you are just... idk wtf you’ve been watching LOL. Granted, the drama is called "Tomorrow With You", but clearly that is not what they are tryna get at. That was the theme throughout the entirety of the drama with So-joon being an apprehensive wuss, but the reality of it is to face the present, and live for a today with you. Love love love <3

Favorite Moments

When he asks "So... do you like me?" and she replies "Was there ever a time when I didn't????" LIKE IDK something about the trivial-ness of both statements yet how deep they hit home.... like obviously, they like each other or else they wouldn’t have gotten so far. But the fact that he had a need to reiterate that, and the fact that she was like "dude have I not made myself clear how much I like u" like that is just so adorably cute and squishy goals to me omggg.

When she sniffs him as they walk home from dinner and giggles and says "Hehehe husband smell" OMG WHY R THEY SO FREAKING CUTE I JUST--.

When he disappeared right before her eyes, it shattered everything in me.

When he grabbed her and saved her from the accident, it was one 2-sec move that altered entire lifetimes, for better or for worse. It was beautifully shot, despite it being an extremely cliche move. It’s okay. It was gorgeous and it’s def my favorite wrist grab to date LOL.

When he started crying because he saw the car accident on the news and he legit was dropping tears, but she laughed it off and hugged him and her smile was so sweet and innocent but he’s legit in agony and it was just so cute and heartbreaking at the same time LIKE HONESTLY that phrase is what describes this drama in a nutshell. Heartbreakingly beautiful.

Despite its flaws, this drama was honestly what I’ve been looking for so so so long. It’s definitely not my number 1 because there were things it could’ve done better, and each episode did not stand out like a number 1 drama should have, but it definitely tore me to pieces, out of joy AND despair. I loved it to bits and I will never forget this gorgeous couple and their journey that transcended time.

So much. I feel so much about Charlie? He’s such a real person dealing with something he knows is so much bigger than him and he’s good at what he does and there had to have been so many personal sacrifices to get him to where he is now and he’s not super well rounded canonically but what I love about his character is that its not hard to think of him as a well rounded person because the base we have is so natural to work off of??? If that makes sense? Like he’s not an outlandish character he feels genuine and grounded and real like, I could meet him in person irl and he would fit in with the universe. He’s such a grounding character and the main reason MTL can, at all at any point, feel like it could be possible.
