I need more headcannons! I really love reading some of them and imagining if that were real from the Flipverse characters! 💖💖
Well I guess as long as someone asks then I can keep making these
-During Mocharia Life, for April Fool's day Didar did the old “not prank anyone” trick, he just made everyone think he was gonna prank them but never did
-Speaking of which, for Halloween, the spotlight was placed on Didar. As much as Petrona dreaded it, she asked Didar to come up with a few elaborate pranks to play on passing customers. The best prank they played was similar to this prank
-Isadora wants to be an actor like Budwin formerly was, however, Budwin really hopes that she doesn’t due to his past experiences
-Koilee has fantasies about being a siren, luring men to her koi pond and killing them. She doesn’t hate men or anything, nor is she crazy about them, it’s just something she thinks about
-Back in middle school kids tried to bully Xandra and Xolo for their looks. It stopped very quickly due to them showing their capabilities on how quickly they can traumatize people
-Sue’s hair used to be a lot longer, but then she had a meltdown and cut her hair short. (Yeah she was one of those people), and now she keeps it at the length it is
Edit: Ok I kinda don’t like the reason that Sue had her hair cut (but if you do I’m keeping it up) so I made another reason
-The reason Sue had her hair cut was because she was getting her hair trimmed while Mindy was an amateur and she accidentally cut off a long piece of her hair so she was like “well time to cut the rest of it off” so then her hair was super short. But then it grew out to the hair length she has now
-Petrona secretly likes sex jokes. She’s mostly a sarcastic person with dry humor, however, any humor that involves sex is almost guaranteed to make her burst into laughter. For professional reasons however, this usually isn’t known
-While thinking about what to be for Halloween, someone told Sue (don't know who but it was probably either Trishna or Didar) that she was already scary enough and that she didn't need a costume. Later she was seen chasing said person with a knife. (It was a fake knife but it was still scary)
-While hiring, all Mocharia crew members (everyone in credits) had to sign a contract by Papa Louie saying that they will never mention how they got hired to anyone outside the production (hm…)
-NuMarcus doesn't sell NFTs. He takes screenshots of them and THEN sells them
-Foodini once collaborated with Duke Gotcha to make a game show called “Not-funny News” (which is basically “Don’t Laugh News” from College Humor). There was even an entire episode exposing Duke
-Nick has gotten to a point in his life where every time he gets hurt, instead of crying out for help or reacting much, he just lies on the floor contemplating his life for a few minutes
-Timm isn’t a good dance teacher. He goes way too fast for the person
-Each city and town in the Papa Louie universe has different stereotypes about the people. Mentioned below is basically what people will think about you if you grew up in one of these places
(DISCLAIMER) These are all stereotypes for a reason. They’re not meant to be taken seriously, and they’re not factual):
Burgerburgh: It’s so incredibly boring that you just have to do things. You’re really really good at one thing, but then you’re terrible at everything else. Or you’re just decent at everything
Calypso: You’re nice friend material but you wouldn’t be able to keep a partner. You’re either super sweet to tourists or lowkey a prick to them
Frostfield: You’re a huge pushover who is way too trusting of people, but you could throw hands if you must
Maple Mountains: You’re brutally honest and always on edge for some reason
New Pepperton: You are INSANELY into geek culture
Oilseed Springs: You may be slightly passive aggressive and you got bored of chickens super quickly, but you know how to work with your hands
Oniontown: You like to joke about your trauma and you probably need therapy
Portallini: You think love is super important and believe in something that involves some sort of spirituality or paranormal whatever
Powder Point: You’re rather laidback for someone who lives in an amusement park, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go crazy
Sakura Bay: You care about the environment and like to keep things clean and perfect. Also you just know how to make things look pretty
Starlight City: You are competitive over everything and like to indulge in alcohol and fancy parties
Tacodale: You have some sort of rags to riches story or sob story everyone pities you over
Tastyville: No matter how different you may be from others, you have this energy that just screams you’re from Tastyville. You probably have some sort of big-shot dream but you can’t quite make it yet so you’re just here for now (Edit: You know what? I agree with people saying Tastyville is Ohio-coded, and from the absurd memes, I guess these people live in super hell. Papa Louie’s here after all)
Toastwood: You like to constantly put yourself in danger for fun. Also you’re a general risk-taker
Whiskview: You’re either annoyingly charismatic or you’re super shy around people. Also you’re probably gay

Dear Eddsworld fandom. Just because a headcanon is very popular, DOESN'T mean it's canon.
"You can't ship Paul x Tord or Tord x Patryck cuz they are father and son!" NO. DO A FUCKING RESEARCH.
This can be debunked in the PowerEdd episode, where Tord and Paul appear together as CHILDREN, implying that they are ALMOST THE SAME AGE.
Tumblr media
Are you sure they are "father and son" even though they appear as CHILDREN in the SAME FUCKING CLASSROOM? No they are not.
SAME THING GOES FOR THE "2004 Eddsworld are teenagers!!" THING.
DO. A. FUCKING. RESEARCH.
In the Christmas Special 2004 and in Zombeh Attack 2005, there's no mentions of their parents or even their school.
Also, do you see this?
Tumblr media
This is the Eddsworld STUDIOS.
This is NOT A SCHOOL. THIS IS NOT A HIGHSCHOOL. THIS IS A STUDIO. A JOB. A COMPANY.
And also, did you know that the real people ages AREN'T the same to the characters? THAT'S RIGHT!
The real people are in their 30s, cool. But what about the characters?
This was confirmed by Oblivian Downing (one of the Eddsworld illustrators) in his Twitter.
Tumblr media
Do you see birth year here? Do you see anything to prove their age here? Of course not? ME EITHER.
This just prove that the characters have vague age. THEY DON'T HAVE A CANON AGE. AND THIS GOES FOR ALL. THE. ERAS.
Do you think it makes sense for them to be an unknown age in one era, but their age in another?? I do not think.
Just because someone made ship art of 2004 Eddsworld, DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE DRAWING P3DO. Just because someone drew Paul x Tord, DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE DRAWING 1NCEST.
Edit cuz i forgot this
Another reason that makes people think that the teenager hc is ""canon"" it's because of Tord's tombstone in Zombeh Attack 2, where it appears that he was supposedly born in 1989.
Tumblr media
BUT that DOESN'T MAKE IT CANON cuz: Tord had not yet left Eddsworld at that time. Tord left in 2008 while Zombeh Attack 2 was posted in 2007, one year earlier.
Tumblr media
The characters weren't separated from the real people at that time because Tord hadn't left EW yet due to the hate he was getting (it was Tord who said that fans should separate the real people from the characters, and then the crew themselves said this later).
And nowadays this is no longer canon, because the characters are separated from the real people and nowadays they don't have a canon birth year or even a canon age (confirmed by Oblivian in this same post).
THOSE ARE JUST >>H E A D C A N O N S<<. If you really want to shove this shit down people's throats like it's "canon", how about you PROVE it's canon? How about you send screenshots of the EW crew confirming this? How about you send prints that confirm that Paul and Patryck are Tord's parents or that they are minors in 2004? You won't get it as it IS NOT CANON IN ANY WAY.
Before you attack someone because they allegedly drew something illegal, DO YOUR RESEARCH. Ask Kasafraz, ask Oblivian, but don't believe other people's words. I did ask Kasafraz about the 2004 Eddsworld and she said that "they don't think there anything that proves that they're minors", and Kas also said that the best for me to do was confirming that I don't headcanon then as teenagers.
And that's what I'm going to do. I DON'T HEADCANON 2004 EW AS TEENAGERS AND THAT SHOULD BE RESPECTED.
It's totally fine if u headcanon 2004 Ew as teenagers or Paul and Pat to be Tord's parents, but please, DON'T FORCE THAT HEADCANON INTO PEOPLE WHO DON'T HAVE THAT HC FOR THEMSELVES. This will just make you look like an ASSHOLE.
Don't be a coward. Do some research. It may take a while, but it will bring you a lot of knowledge.

De Algemene Verwarring #82 - 29 November 2022
The eighty-second episode of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Tuesday November 29, 2022, and you can listen to it by clicking on the Mixcloud widget below. And if that does not work, here’s the direct link to the Mixcloud page:
https://www.mixcloud.com/MedialabKortrijk/de-algemene-verwarring-82-29-november-2022/
Pictured below is Jim Thirlwell, a.k.a. Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel or The Foetus All Nude Revue or Foetus Interruptus or Foetus In Your Bed or Foetus Über Frisco or Foetus Art Terrorism, or also Wiseblood, or Clint Ruin, or Manorexia, or Steroid Maximus... the picture was apparently taken in 1985, one year after the release of one of many master pieces of his: “Hole”. I discovered the work of Thirwell in the local city library, where they had copies of “Hole” and also of “Nail” in the late eighties, early nineties, I can still singalong all the lyrics of both of those albums. I played a track of the Hole LP in this episode, because I don’t think I have already played Foetus tracks in De Algemene Verwarring and I have to say that although I don’t listen to those records as often as I listen to for instance early Coil records, the work of Jim Thirlwell has had an important influence on my musical education.
Also in this episode is the confronting and Coil related track “Rape” by Zos Kia, but don’t worry, it’s not a heavy episode and there’s enough other music that will put a smile on your face, from the likes of Wild Zeros, The Scaners, Tampax, Oblivians, Los Streaks, Mordecai, Boris Dzaneck, Treasury Of Puppies, Goldblum, and we dub into the night with The Idealist! And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for this show. Enjoy!

154: Young Jessie // Shufflin' & Jivin'
Tumblr media
Shufflin' & Jivin' Young Jessie 1987, Ace
Deadspin/Defector writer David Roth coined a phrase for the idle pastime of recalling also-ran baseball players: Let’s Remember Some Guys. If you’ve ever sat around with friends who share a fandom and found the conversation pleasantly degenerating into taking turns naming Guys (e.g. “Oh man, Skeet Ulrich!”) and reacting (“Oh shit, I remember him!”), you’ve had the pleasure of Remembering a Guy. (I’ve uh homaged this bit a few times in this series already.)
youtube
Roth draws a distinction here between Guys and Dudes. A Dude is someone who had a respectable degree of success at the highest levels of their practice (made an all-star team; did an album the average stepdad has worn out multiple copies of), whereas a Guy is someone who was more of a workaday stiff who has become lodged in your mind for personal, arbitrary, or outright mysterious reasons.
To whit:
Soccer player Megan Rapinoe is unequivocally a Dude. Former Arsenal player Ray Parlour is a Guy.
The Pokemon Pidgeotto is a Guy. Bulbasaur is clearly a Dude.
Ex-porn star Carter Cruise is a Dude. Scarlit Scandal is currently a Guy with Dude potential.
Tumblr media
Guy. The wrestler Duke “The Dumpster” Droese is a Guy. AEW’s Britt Baker is a Dude.
Basketball player Detlef Schrempf is a Dude. Christian Wood is a Guy and it’s no one’s fault but his.
Tumblr media
Dude.
The talking doorknockers from Labyrinth are Guys. Ludo is an absolute Dude.
Border collies are a Dude breed of dog. Drevers are Guys.
I trust these carefully chosen exemplars have helped you calibrate your Remembering devices. So, based on what you know about the rules of Guy Remembering, would you say Young Jessie was a Guy or a Dude based on the stats below?
Active between 1953 and 2020, but best known for a short run of rock ‘n’ roll singles in the first decade of his career, some of them featuring guitarist Mickey Baker (among sidemen a definite Dude, otherwise technically a Guy?) and saxophonist Sam “The Man” Taylor (same)
Briefly a member of The Flairs (Guys) and The Coasters (Dudes)
Writer of the song “Mary Lou,” later covered by Bob Seger (Dude), Steve Miller (Dude), Frank Zappa (Dude), and The Oblivians (Dudes, within their specific niche)
Performed and recorded sporadically (mostly jazz) over the ensuing decades
youtube
Pencils down. What do you say?
Yeah, Young Jessie is obviously a Guy, but he’s a great example of the worthiness of humble Guydom, and the joys of Remembering Guys. There was a huge glut of talent working during rock ‘n’ roll’s first decade, and despite the public’s insatiable appetite for the new sound there wasn’t enough limelight, enough studio time, enough capital for most singers to get even a single whack at the pinata. To his credit, Young Jessie had enough onstage electricity, and enough craft in his pen, to cut thirteen singles between 1954 and 1963, including some work with the legendary songwriting duo Lieber & Stoller (Dudes).
The concept of an independent (or alternative) class of recording artists didn’t really exist in Jessie’s prime—studio time meant somebody somewhere was willing to risk money on you in the hopes you might have the decency to reward them with a hit. There simply wasn’t as much willingness to invest in a longshot at stardom back then, and you needed, luck, fortitude, and ideally something special vocally to stand out.
Relatively few of Jessie’s peers had the juice to fill out a retrospective compilation, let alone one with the spring of Shufflin’ & Jivin’, which collects most of his work for the Modern Records label (’54 to ’57), plus a few previously unreleased tracks and a token entry from his time with vocal quartet The Flairs (the latter with Ike Turner [Dude] sitting in on guitar). These are pretty hot recordings in general, not far off the jump blues-derived sounds of Big Joe Thornton and Chubby Checker (both Dudes), and Jessie makes a good host. He’s believable when he asks a woman if she’d like seven or eight kids, and he has the strut needed to sell a hustler’s anthem like “Hit, Git & Split.” But he never managed to land a real hit, and he was ultimately the type of unflashy pro that had a more limited ceiling in his stardom-driven era.
But, for anyone who is a true fan of early rock ‘n’ roll and can’t get enough of this sound, this compilation (like Young Jessie himself) is an excellent find, and if you say his name among the right crowd, you’re sure to get an appreciative, “Hey, I remember that guy!” We should all be so lucky to leave such a fond legacy.

Bayonetta 3 in development exclusively for Nintendo Switch; Bayonetta 2 with Bayonetta available for Switch in 2018
There were several big game announcements yesterday during and around The Game Awards, but I did not expect this one. Nintendo announced that Bayonetta 3 is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch. While we don’t have any sort of time frame in terms of release, it’s clear that Nintendo has given developer Platinum Games their full commitment, since the angel-slaying witch will once again only be featured on a Nintendo platform.
Nintendo further announced that Bayonetta 2 will be making its way onto the Switch as well. The full retail copy will include a digital download of the original Bayonetta. Bayonetta 2 was previously a Wii U exclusive title, and I’m beyond thrilled that more people will be able to experience this incredible game than ever before.

Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 will launch on Nintendo Switch February 16, 2018.

Despicable Me 3 trailer and more
youtube
Despite the general sigh of exhaustion that can be heard every time an animated film gets an unnecessary sequel, I actually have pretty high hopes for Despicable Me 3. Illumination has proven itself more than capable of making solid followups to its first real hit; both Despicable Me 2 and Minions were actually decent films, despite the marketing team shoving the little yellow tic-tacs down our collective throat. And, hey, Sing was okay-ish. We have nothing to lose.

Maja’s STRAY KIDS Concert experience and thoughts (aka probably just me fangirling)!
Under the cut, cause I don’t know how long this will turn out to be.. Will also include some of my bad pics lol
Tumblr media
September 17th 2022!
The day my mind was blown to oblivian, cause Minho THE MINHO is actually real, like what an actual wild concept. Not in like a “I don’t see him as a real person” weirdo kind of way, but in a “I have only ever seen this dude on a computer screen and it’s wild that he actually exists” kind of way. It’s the same for all of the members of course, but I am nothing if not Minho biased lol.
Tumblr media
Ever since the evening the day before the concert, I was so freaking nervous. Like one would seriously think I was the one performing, that’s how nervous I was lmao. Guess it was the realization that I was actually seeing my dude of all dudes (read ultimate bias (sorry Seonghwa)) irl. Even now, just thinking about it makes my stomach turn lmao. I still can’t believe it.
I had a way better seat than I expected, and I really felt like they were SO close even though I was on the second floor. It was truly wild.
Tumblr media
When the concert started I seriously couldn’t do anything, but watch in awe. I was literally just shook SHOOK! They started with Maniac and Venom, which has never been my favourite songs, but they were absolutely amazing. AND THEN THEY DID RED LIGHTS AS ONE OF THE FIRST SONGS, LIKE WHAT THE HELL. Can’t believe one of my first looks of skz irl is them tied up by their necks??
When they said hello, I was just out of it. It was truly like an out of body experience, I could not with my excitement lol (in reality I just kept on saying “wahh” every five minutes).
Minho was of course Minho, and when he greeted us, he was like “you already know my name”ish and got us to yell his name, but then he was like “No, there’s something missing at the front” and everyone was like “???” and he was like “I’m Stray Kids’ Lee Know” as if we could know that was his intention. I love him and he is just ethereal and his humor is just amazing. Also, I have never been more happy to know Korean than I was at this concert. It really made it so much more fun, cause the members were all hilarious!!
Tumblr media
I don’t remember what it was, but at their ment, Chan said some kind of joke and Felix just went “Ah, how fun” in the most dry tone ever and everyone laughed. He seemed to be confused tho, cause I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean for it to be that dry lol.
Then (I think it was now?? Oh well) Minho and Seungmin were charged with having to introduce the new song, but it was just them meowing and barking at each other?? Minho got so red lmao. The song was Easy lol. Apparently the thing was that it was very easy to guess? Which it really was not.
I don’t remember everything in the correct order probably, but who cares lol. They also said they were going to try something new, and that the people on the second floor (aka me) would also get to see them close! So every time the light went out, everyone was just waiting for where they would appear again lmao.
Y’all, I got to hear CHEESE live? Like damn, absolutely amazing! I love CHEESE lol
They also did Lonely St. with standing mics!! Absolutely amazing if you ask me lol. But tbh the whole concert was, so yeah.
They showed their mashup for the new album and then they performed the three unit songs!! 3Racha began by absolutely slaying, and damn, rapper Bang Chan is back back!!! Then Danceracha went on to absolutely end me. Like my jaw was literally at the floor the whole time. It was sexy sexy sexy. Like Wow but times ten. Who knew that was even possible? And the Vocalracha ended the unit songs, by having the best song ever. It’s such a happy “I really like you!!” kind of song and they absolutely slayed, I can’t wait for the studio version for real!!
At the following ment, Minho was like “I have a question for STAY and you have to answer truthfully! Did you all do the STAY pose, when you met outside of the stadium?” then the other members went on about how it must be embarrassing to do, and Minho was like “I’m in I and I can do it?” and they were all like “You’re not an I. There’s no way you’re an I.” Then they went on to coming up with other things STAYs could do to see if someone was a STAY. Changbin (I think it was him) suggested finger hearts, but they all agreed, that that would be awkward if the other person wasn’t a stay lmao. They ended up settling for doing the skz greeting with eachother, cause that would be easy to play off, if the other person wasn’t a stay.
Tumblr media
They also performed Circus and Fam Korean versions!
After they performed Fam, they wanted to hear us yell their names but without the in-ears in. It went like *Chan says his line about I.N and we yell “I.N”* and everything went great until it got to, when we had to yell Hyunjin’s name. This is where, some people have probably seen the video online, if not you can find it HERE! Han said his line about Hyunjin, but like 80% of the stadium didn’t yell his name and it was just confused silence. Here is where I’ve seen some weird misunderstandings run around on twitter, about how “Korean fans never screams a lot for Hyunjin >:(” and “Why did nobody scream his name? :(” and “The fans didn’t know they were supposed to scream the names”, but take it from someone who was there and didn’t scream his name at first, it wasn’t like that at all. It wasn’t some weird “Korean stays don’t like Hyunjin kind of thing” like what even? It was just confusion! Han said his line which was just “Artist”, but it sounded so much like he said “I.N” and everyone was confused, cause we had already screamed his name once. That’s really all there was to it. So Han just repeated his line and everyone screamed “Hyunjin” really loud after that! It wasn’t at all any ill-feelings towards Hyunjin. It was just pure confusion lmao!
At one point they got into some carts(?) I’ll call them carts lol, and they drove around between the second and first floor! They were so close, like what even. They were like really really close, I still can’t believe it..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As it does at every concert, they have to say goodbye, and Han was tasked with the role of being the one to be like “We really want to stay, but...” and we, the fans, were all like “Awww :(” and Han was like “This makes me the bad guy” and everybody laughed.
Between them leaving the stage and the encore (Is it really an encore, when everyone know it’s going to happen?) there were three STAY games. The first one was, the camera filming someone in the audience and that STAY had to immitate the pose on the screen. Then the next one was immitating the dance and doing an ending fairy, and the last one was just for everyone to scream as loud as they could lol. That was also a reorcurring theme in the concert. The members kept on being like “that’s not enough” and making everyone scream even louder. No wonder my throat hurt when I got home lol.
They came back for the “encore” and they performed HAVEN!! MINHO’S VOICE IN HAVEN LIVE!! VERY IMPORTANT!! I absolutely am in love with him in a non delusional way, of course.
When they did their ending ments, they were all so happy. They were all talking about how it was a dream to perform at the KSPO stadium, and how STAY made that dream come true and how thankful they were. Felix talked about how it was the first time they were able to get that close to the fans (when they went in the carts and had to literally walk through the fans to get back to the stage), and he had never seen the love in the fans eyes that close before. He said he wondered if he really derserve all that love, and I can tell you he does! Am I tearing up writing this? Maybe.. Chan said all the fans were like 🥺🥺 looking at the members that close, and it was cute and there was so much love.
Minho was very serious in his ending ment. He said it’s good to be serious sometimes. He talked about how, when he got back from the US after the tour, he had some time to himself and he kind of had an identity crisis? He said he thought a lot about who he is. Is he Stray Kids’ Lee Know or is he Lee Minho? He said it’s very important to take some time to yourself and be serious and think about stuff. He said that STAY should also take some time for themselves sometimes!
Tumblr media
At the end nobody wanted them to leave and they didn’t want to leave either. Chan kept on asking if they should just start from the beginning again, and he started imitating the sound of the intro to the concert version of Maniac, and some of the other members joined in. In the end, they did have to go. Felix was the last one leaving and he kept on yelling “I love you STAYs” and it was just really wholesome.
Anyways I love them a whole damn lot. I still can’t believe I saw them live. I didn’t really know how to feel, when the concert was done lol. Surprisingly I didn’t cry at the concert or anything, cause I think I was in lowkey shock lol. I was yesterday too, but now, writing this long post, I am suddenly really emotional and touched lol. This was a big day and I enjoyed every single second of it (even though my buttcheek kind of hurt from the hard seat lol)!
I love Stray Kids and Lee Minho a whole damn lot. That’s just the end of it.
Oh, someone posted a fancam of THE WHOLE DAMN CONCERT on youtube.. damn

Battle #25
Reatards: Grown Up, Fucked Up ( Side B )
Vs.
The Jam: All Mod Cons ( Side 2 )
Reatards: Grown Up, Fucked Up ( Side B )
The Reatards were an American garage punk band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1995. Originally a one-man project by guitarist Jay Reatard, the group's sound was marked by raw, stripped-down instrumentals and lo-fi recording quality. After distributing privately pressed cassettes and EPs, the band released their debut album Teenage Hate in 1998. It was followed by this album, Grown Up, Fucked Up a year later. By that time, the group only sporadically performed as Reatard began exploring other endeavors, but in 2005 he reformed the band for their third and final studio album. Much of the Reatards' discography remains a subject of interest, leading to reissues of their work years later. Jay unabashedly credits The Oblivians as a source of inspiration for their style of crude, distorted, lo-fi garage sound. Reatard was so enamoured with the Oblivians' music, he sent their guitarist Eric Friedl some of his home recordings hon which he did everything...guitar, vocals and drumming on a bucket. How’s THAT for DIY!?). It was impressing enough to Friedl to arrange a record deal on his independent label, Goner Records. Relatively short lived as they were, though, The Reatards put out some raw, high energy, REAL MUSIC. You can hear it in the chaos. Just as quickly as the6 formed, Jay went on to other things. Unfortunately he unexpectedly died in 2010. It seems he had died of "cocaine toxicity, and that alcohol was a contributing factor in his death. Sad because after he s time with a The Reatards, he went on to do quite a few things and become a pretty prolific musician in his own right. But this, this is his humble (?) beginnings. Keep in mind practically no song is over about 2 minutes. Every bit of it intense and from the perspective of a fresh faced teenager. First song Side B is “Tonight I’ll Come”. It’s tha5 fast nasty lo-fi you love. Born in the garage and surprisingly channeled and clear, consideration given t the aforementioned recording techniques. The next jab, “Get Outta Our Way”, is decidedly more rock ‘n’ roll than punk. “Who Are You” is another quick fix while “All the Walls Are Closing in” sees a desperation and violent undertones take hold. DT shakes level intensity. “Miss You” is pretty Stooges in nature...just raw power (#seewhatididthere). “Eat Your Heart Out” follows and you can really hear the young essence in Jay’s voice here. It’s a banger that lingers though. This kid did his homework. “I Want Sex” is of course on the mind of any teenage boy but it’s a cover not an original. Meh. I like the originals better. They don’t need to do covers and the6 certainly had the material!! “I’m Gonna Break Down” is very indicative of what this music sounds like. It could break down at any moment. Now, we’ve reached the bonus tracks and an obviously different recording session. That’s the only drawback of this style. You can almost never recapture the EXACT SOUND from any previous sessions because it’s so so happenstance. “Your So Lewd” (note, it IS misspelled ) and “She Will Always Be With Me” have a nasty, distorted vibe while the final cut “Busy Signal” has more garage slop grace and goodness. It’s quick licks with sick fits. His vocals are so young and raw. Recalling Teengenerate and The Motards or X-Ray Specs. 11 songs PER SIDE!! That’s a whole album or set list for most bands! This may be a new RRW RECORD (#seewhatididthere). R. I. P. Jay.
The Jam: All Mod Cons ( Side 2 )
The Jam have been RRW contenders before and went quite far. They were an English mod revival/punk rock band during the 1970s and early 1980s, which formed in 1972 at Sheerwater Secondary School in Woking, in the county of Surrey. They get lumped in with punk a lot but really blur the line between power pop and punk with blues riffs thrown in for good measure. They also drew off the energy of bands like The Who and The Kinks for that mod sound. At the helm was Paul Weller, the heartbeat of The Jam. He went on to form The Style Council and later had a successful solo career, of which he still enjoys. Weller wrote and sang most of the Jam's original compositions, and brought that distinct snotty, throaty, often gruff, and decidedly British sounding vocals. A great example is his pronunciation of the word flowers as flars. Though they shared an "angry young men" outlook, short hair, crushing volume and lightning-fast tempos, the Jam wore neatly tailored suits where others wore ripped clothes, played professionally where others were defiantly amateurish, and displayed clear 1960s rock influences. The Jam had political lyrics, condemning police brutality ("In the City") and expansionist development ("Bricks And Mortar"). Even condemning the monarchy, pre Sex Pistols. By only about 6 months though. All Mod Cons in specific was after the initial success and had put some pressure on the band to maintain. They released a few singles first which appear on the album but the album only came after positive reactions to the singles. “Billy Hunt” has something unique in the pronunciations. I love the way his name is said “Billy, Billy, Biiiiilll-eeeee”.
“It’s too Bad” has a lovely wandering bass line that has a warm, relaxing, inviting personality. Too bad it’s so short. “Fly” contains soft and slow acoustic introductions. It builds, like a baby bird learning to flap its wings until the point of flight. I suppose that’s the point. Some good, rockin’ guitar picking and slick riffs show up in “The Place I Love”. But this side really kicks in on the next two tunes. “ 'A' Bomb in Wardour Street" was a Weller original. And one of their hardest and most intense songs, as well as the aforementioned singles. Weller cursed the violent thugs that plagued the punk rock scene over a taut two-chord figure. It became their most successful release since ”All Around The World”. The cowbell is surprisingly catchy and is one of the more rocking tunes, and of course there is a bomb exploding at the end so literal truth in advertising. “Down in the Tube Station at Midnight” was the second single and helped The Jam really regain their former critical acclaim. The song was a dramatic account of being mugged by thugs who "smelled of pubs and Wormwood Scrubs and too many right-wing meetings". Rich and textured bass really drives the whole thing. Good harmonies with thundering drums. A train interrupts the tune so as to give it a realistic feeling. Like the Clash but cleaner and snappier dressers.
Today it was The Reatards who were grown up, but fucked up in the process. They burned 107 calories over 17 minutes and 11 songs. That is 9.73 calories per song and 6.29 calories burned per minute. The Reatards earned 26 out of 33 possible stars. The Jam put out the call for all Mod Cons. They took 20 minutes to burn 128 calories over 6 songs. They averaged 21.33 calories burned per song and 6.40 calories per minute. The Jam earned 14 out of 18 possible stars. Today it appears The Jam are RRW winners!

recommended digital releases, october 27th
a large majority of the music i listen to these days is done at work through a premium spotify subscription. the hardest part seems to be trying to remember when an album i’ve been anticipating finally comes out on whatever random friday.
i figure i’m not the only one so every friday i’m aiming to post five new releases from the past week (or so) as well as five recent releases from the past couple months that are available through spotify (and presumably the other streaming platforms).
new releases from the past week (or so):
half forward line "the back of mass" on jigsaw [spotify, bandcamp] half forward line is a new project from brian kelly (so cow) and niall murphy (oh boland) with cíarán o'maoláin rounding out the trio on drums and recording. they've assembled an album of a dozen garage pop songs full of nervous lyrics that they recorded quickly in a rural irish pub.
headroom "head in the clouds" on trouble in mind [spotify, bandcamp] headroom is the solo project of mountain movers member kryssi battalene. her electric guitar and (occasional) vocals front a full band in the bardo pond/heron oblivian heavy psych vein.
daniele luppi with parquet courts and karen o "milano" on thirtieth century [spotify] daniele luppi recruits parquet courts and karen o for his latest album. strong vocals from andrew savage and karen o sit over solid, if straightforward, post-punky pop songs.
v/a "seven inches for planned parenthood" (self-released) [spotify] an hour and a half of indie comedy and music to raise money for planned parenthood. one third of it was recorded live at largo, including john legend and st. vincent dueting on a cover of 'loving you'.
wireheads "lightning ears" on tenth court [spotify, bandcamp] like clockwork, a new year brings a new wireheads album. for their fourth album they traveled from australia to anacortes, washington and recorded at phil elverum's studio with calvin johnson. the arrangements seem like they were jammed out quickly and then captured live.
slightly older stuff:
dmitry evgrafov "comprehension of light" on 130701 [spotify, bandcamp] dmitry's second album for fat cat's "post classical" imprint combines horns, strings and drones for a moving record that builds its own identity even when the influence of max richter is omnipresent.
the gotobeds "fucking in the future plus ifve" on comedy minus one [spotify, bandcamp] the earliest gotobeds recording are collected here including their debut cassette and several singles. their first steps as a band weren't at all hesitant- instead they're immediate, unfussy and anthemic trash punk.
laraaji "bring on the sun" on all saints [spotify] laraaji "sun gong" on all saints [spotify] numero group just announced they'll be reissuing laraaji's 1984 album 'vision songs, volume one' so it seemed like an good time to discuss his latest work for the brian eno-affiliated all saints label. on "bring on the sun" laraaji uses numerous acoustic instruments (harmonica, harp, tabla) to builds loops that sit somewhere between ambient and new age while traces of folk and blues songs weave through them. "sun gong" is a drone ep built around layered and processed recordings of gongs.
patience "white of an eye" single on night school [spotify, bandcamp] third synthpop single from the solo project of roxanne clifford (veronica falls) adds a guitar for the first time to up the new-order-iness. the b-side slows it down with dreamy multitracked vocals over looping synths.
patsy "la woman" ep on la vida es un mus [spotify, bandcamp] the new orleans quartet drop a mini album of garage punk with hints of hardcore. goner records fans should dig 'em- maybe they'll make an appearance at gonerfest fifteen next year!

#OneGameAWeek Challenge Week 3 | Dyscourse (Owlchemy Labs, 2015; PC)
I have a hard time putting my feelings about Dyscourse into words. On the one hand, it's a cute indie adventure game that is inoffensive all in all. On the other, it hardly brings anything new or notable to the table. As far as games funded by Kickstarter go, it's certainly not the worst I've played, but there isn't anything about it that warrants a purchase. Though its minimal choice-based narrative style and cut-out paper aesthetic is charming, the lack of music and overall content makes it hard to recommend.

Goblin Alert, the first new studio album from Quintron & Miss Pussycat, comes out on Oct. 19. The record continues their established "swamp-tech" sound, but this time takes a turn in a new direction with live drums and guitar. Goblin Alert features Sam Yoger (Babes, AJ Davilla) on drums kit and Danny Clifton (Room 13, Jane Jane Pollock) on hollow body guitar.  To be released by Goner Records, the new album was produced by Greg Cartwright (Reigning Sound/The Oblivians) and recorded Pulp Arts studio in Gainesville, FL.
