it’s so interesting to me that the fandom seemingly collectively decided years ago that emma was the goofy, happy-go-lucky golden retriever to regina’s black cat. maybe it’s just because they needed to contrast the two somehow? but it never quite felt right to me because emma, to me, is just as hardened and guarded as regina is, maybe even more so.

sure, she still has some idealism in her, still believes there is good in the world, but it’s not for her. that goodness is for everyone else. she doesn’t frolic, she doesn’t relax, she’s never known how.

to me, emma and regina are similar in every way but one: when the world broke regina’s heart, she gave up entirely on the idea of goodness and became determined to make the rest of the world suffer with her. when the world broke emma’s heart, she held goodness in her tightly balled fist and refused to let go of it, determined to take the pain away from everyone else and take it on herself instead. for emma, to love is to suffer on her loved one’s behalf. to bite her tongue and bear it through gritted teeth. she’s the savior; she exists to sacrifice. she’s a living martyr.

they are both bitter, jaded, spiteful women who have fought tooth and nail for every little bit of happiness they have. which is why no one can understand them but each other. no one can truly love them but each other.

anyway. i always wondered where that characterization of her being the goofy carefree one came from, because it’s so opposite to the emma i see in the show.

I know this fandom is probably dead so this will flop but:

Henry Mills with a partner who also calls him "Charming" meeting his family and the whole gang is confused.

meeting Henry's family was admittedly a daunting task. of course they were town heroes so you met them all before but never all at once and never in the context of you dating one of the youngest members of the family.

"so what is it you do exactly?" a perfectly shaped eyebrows raises at you from the head of the table, Regina Mills seems to share directly into your soul as if analyzing you for any small chance that you have intentions of hurting her family.

"oh well... I didn't really do anything in the enchanted Forest. at least nothing of note I was a circus performer with my parents before the ... curse." you purse your lips unsure if mentioning the curse was the right move.

"but when I came over I wasn't assigned a job obviously I was still just a kid so I went to school and now that we've finished that." the silent now that the curse was broken now that time was moving part of your statement left unsaid. "I've begun teaching at the daycare preschool room. I like the children."

Mary Margaret's face lights up as the knowledge that another teacher had 'joined the family' you listen and respond to her eager questions about teaching children so young twirling pasta around on your fork to appear busy and like you weren't ignoring the meal in front of you. eventually she grew tired and the subject changed and now able to catch your breath you smile. "Charming, can you pass the salt?" you don't notice Emma give you a weird look. and you don't notice the way that Regina's eyes widen when Henry's hand reaches for the salt shaker at the same time as his grandfather.

"Charming?" Snow echoes.

"Henry." you specify. At that Snow grins and David lets out a hearty laugh. somewhere from the table there's a mutter of "oh god they're multiplying" (spoken from zelena.)

I glanced at Henry for clarification. "my grandma calls Grandpa, Charming. he's kind of THE prince charming."

I love how captain swan met don't get me wrong but they really missed a trick not having hook be in storybrooke with them. He could've been cursed or even playing the long game waiting for the curse to be over so that rumple knew exactly who he was when he goes to kill him. Imagine rumple and Killian both failing to realise that the other isn't cursed. Imagine Killian meeting Emma when she comes to town and knows she's the one who breaks the curse. Imagine him first helping Henry make emma believe because he wants the curse breaking for selfish reasons but then begins to fall for her. Imagine at the pilot episode we see the clock tick and Killian looking up at the end of the episode and saying 'tick tock'. IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES.

(The fact that they didn't have the rights to Peter pan and the captain hook character until season 2 and that they wanted him in season 1 knowing all along they wanted him to be a love interest for Emma actually kills me. But we might not have gotten Colin 😭)

down the rabbit hole by amycarey is about emma, a book store employee, and regina, a prolific but reclusive children's author. it's sweet, and just the right amount of angst and fluff.

learning how to live by 1clevergurl is one that starts a little dark, with regina fleeing abuse. if you like hurt/comfort, look no further. bonus points for cute henry!!!

goodnight, dear void by @coalitiongirl is a must if you like rom-coms and meet cutes. it's like you've got mail had smartphones and was also gay.

Peter Pan Imagine/ You like me.

“You son of a bitch!” You yell at Peter as you walk away, but as you walk he grabs your arm and brings you back to him.

“Don’t act like you don’t like this.” He says softly

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?!” You get defensive.

“You like being controlled, you like me.” He looks deeps in your eyes

You were taken back and could barely think.

“So, I’ll do whatever I want to you, whenever I want, and you’ll let me. Because you want it-“ he says

“No.” You say looking down

“And you need it.” He pulls up your chin with the tip of his finger .

You swallow your dry spit and try to come back to reality.

“So princess, Neverland or no Neverland, I own you. Now, go to your room, strip off whatever dress the fairies made you this week, get into bed, and wait for me. Say yes.” He looks at you

“….Yes.” You say walking away and doing exactly what he says with a smirk creeping through your lips.

Wei Wuxian licks his lips and leans forward slightly, walking his fingers across the countertop aimlessly toward Lan Zhan. “You know, Lan Zhan,” he drawls, “A-Yuan says we’re both in the book.”

“Mn,” Lan Zhan responds, tracking the path of his fingers intently, “I am apparently Hanguang-jun, the moral upstanding hero.”

“And I’m the devious Yiling Loazu, who led you astray,” he smirks, peering at Lan Zhan through his lashes.

Lan Zhan meets his stare, head-on, lit from within like molten sunshine. “No,” he corrects, “not astray, Wei Ying.”

Wei Wuxian tilts his head, waiting for him to continue. His fingers stop their dancing, resting just inches away from Lan Zhan.

Lan Zhan shifts his own hand, bringing them even closer, their fingertips almost brushing.  

“The Yiling Loazu did not lead Hanguang-jun astray,” he says, eyes piercing as they flicker between Wei Wuxian’s. “They were partners, and…”

“Ah,” Wei Wuxian breathes, “the decent romance?”

Lan Zhan doesn’t answer, watching him closely. The pupils of his eyes have grown so large there’s only the tiniest ring of gold around the edge. He can see himself reflected in the black. He thinks he likes the version of himself that lives in Lan Zhan’s eyes.

They’re standing on the edge of a cliff, waiting for the other to take a step forward, bracing for a fall.

It should be terrifying, this sudden drop into something completely new, something entirely unknown yet so familiar. But Wei Wuxian is filled with conviction that no matter what, Lan Zhan will catch him.

It's as electrifying as it is calming, this certainty that here, with Lan Zhan, he is safe.

Wei Wuxian tilts his head to the side in a way he knows sets the unmarked skin of his neck on display. “I’m sure it was more than just decent, with a handsome hero like Hanguang-jun.”

Lan Zhan quirks an eyebrow, his gaze resting on the curve of Wei Wuxian’s neck, just as he’d hoped. "Handsome?"

“Well,” Wei Wuxian responds, tapping his index finger so it brushes against Lan Zhan’s fingertips. His skin is soft and perfect, just like the rest of him. “He isn’t wrong. You’re very handsome, Lan Zhan.”

“Really, Wei Ying?” Lan Zhan says, voice quiet and deep.

“Yep, definitely worthy of being compared to the beautiful Second Jade of Lan.”

“Is that so?” Lan Zhan shifts closer, the smell of him filling up Wei Wuxian. He smells so familiar, like something he knows intimately. Sandalwood, Wei Wuxian realizes, with sudden clarity.

Lan Zhan continues, “I would love to hear more about your opinion on my beauty and prestige, Wei Ying.”

“You don’t know anything about me, Lan Zhan. Why would you care what I think?”

Lan Zhan tilts his head, only just. “Do I need to? To want to know how your brain works?”

I commissioned this lovely artwork by the wonderful @lotuslate of a scene from my fic, once upon a time, 很久很久以前 where the entire cultivation world is cursed to live in the modern world without their memories and abilities, but of course wangxian find a way to fall in love all over again.

In a voice that probably held more desperation than Regina would have preferred to show, she asked, “Can we please not discuss this while we’re in the middle of the town’s square?”

“But what were those noises I heard from your room last night?” Henry earnestly requested of his mothers.

“You heard your mom kid,” Emma interjected, “Besides, we were just wrestling anyways.”

A look of absolute mortification twisted Regina’s face. She brought her coffee towards her lips, trying and failing to stifle an audible groan.
