it’s so interesting to me that the fandom seemingly collectively decided years ago that emma was the goofy, happy-go-lucky golden retriever to regina’s black cat. maybe it’s just because they needed to contrast the two somehow? but it never quite felt right to me because emma, to me, is just as hardened and guarded as regina is, maybe even more so.
sure, she still has some idealism in her, still believes there is good in the world, but it’s not for her. that goodness is for everyone else. she doesn’t frolic, she doesn’t relax, she’s never known how.
to me, emma and regina are similar in every way but one: when the world broke regina’s heart, she gave up entirely on the idea of goodness and became determined to make the rest of the world suffer with her. when the world broke emma’s heart, she held goodness in her tightly balled fist and refused to let go of it, determined to take the pain away from everyone else and take it on herself instead. for emma, to love is to suffer on her loved one’s behalf. to bite her tongue and bear it through gritted teeth. she’s the savior; she exists to sacrifice. she’s a living martyr.
they are both bitter, jaded, spiteful women who have fought tooth and nail for every little bit of happiness they have. which is why no one can understand them but each other. no one can truly love them but each other.
anyway. i always wondered where that characterization of her being the goofy carefree one came from, because it’s so opposite to the emma i see in the show.

okay I'm like complaining again but I wanna hear other ppls thoughts on this because I'm too impatient to wait until I've gone through all the commentary for BrBa and BCS in search of answers to confirm or deny my suspicions but GOD A FEW THINGS ARE DRIVING ME INSANE and I apologize for this ramble being maybe a lil disjointed in advance
so like, first, this scene-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
if I look at this realistically it reads as Jake misinterpreting his and Jesse's parents talking about how Jesse's actions reflect back on them as genuine care, he's young, and I can imagine him having some insecurity in his parents care for him since we do know it is conditional, just Jake is currently meeting those conditions, but sensing that instability could've maybe influenced how he understood his parents talk of his older sibling.
but I just am having a hard time convincing myself that was intended when it was written... and this assessment from me could be unfair because - while I'm not quite sure at what point Jesse was no longer planned to be killed at the end of the first season - this does come from that first season, and I've heard there was a change in how Jesse was written after the first season and throughout the rest of the show there is NO evidence that Jesse's parents like, actually give a fuck about him, they actively make his life worse like when they kicked him out of his own goddamn house, and that all seems like those things have to be intended to make you think "wow Jesse's parents are awful!!!"
but then, not for me to complain about these two scenes in El Camino again but I'm gonna complain about these two scenes in El Camino again -
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
followed by this not too long after
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
because while if this movies thing of having blame being squared on Jesse's shoulders was just him talking to his parents it'd be easier to say "oh this is just a kid who was abused in a socially acceptable way not recognizing the abuse he went through and how that really did have a major effect on his life trajectory" but when these two scenes are put so close together it makes it really hard for me to not think that it's TRYING to say that Jesse is responsible for where he ended up even if they don't necessarily want bad things to happen to him
cause like I know, I know the writers are sympathetic towards Jesse but I don't think being sympathetic towards a character like him makes you immune to having harmful beliefs about addicts and criminals when they're so prevalent in wider society, like especially the idea that changing actions taken by individual people is the main problem that needs to be dealt with wrt addiction and crime instead of changing the structural problems that result in addiction and crime, like I've seen this mindset present in the fandom as well
I mean I know I have some evidence that at least Vince's ideas on justice aren't great with this bit from an interview about El Camino (also him having Jesse specifically say "I'm no cop killer" when Jesse would definitely know how cops are just another violent gang, like he could've just said "I don't want to kill anyone" instead of having cops on some higher level of innocence)
Tumblr media
like I dunno believing at all that there's a good way to end with Jesse in prison (and not as a way to show how awful prison is either, since he talked about the idea of Jesse finally finding some sort of peace in prison sleeping) is kinda fucked up!!! I do want to fight him for this alone!!! even if like glad he changed it but I dunno the fact that he believes this just makes it easy to believe that he really would!! blame Jesse to at least some extent for what he got into, like I think that he understands Walt manipulated Jesse but I just, I dunno!!! things in BCS kinda bother me too irt just general ideas of crime and drug use ect... but I'm much less familiar with that show in comparison to BrBa so I don't feel as comfortable pointing specific things in it
like... do Vince Gilligan and the writers of Breaking Bad see Jesse’s parents as shit parents who were abusive in a socially acceptable way? or do they really think that they really did their best? is it somewhere in-between? like "they were abusive but they still didn't know any better"? or maybe is it as bad as believing Jesse's parents tried their best and them being rich is supposed to show that he had all he needed to succeed and was just a fuckup (instead of it showing that his parents had all the resources they needed to help him and... didn't) am I just overreacting because I am protective of my girl and the people that I know exist like him and am suspicious of those writing about them if I don't know all their politics behind the subject? I know I've talked to some ppl who have vindicated me w/ some of this but please share ur opinions I want to know the wider ideas on this since I feel like I just don't see it discussed that often

Will and Alyss are trans here’s my essay
We talk a lot about how funny it is that Flanagan unintentionally wrote the gayest love story between Halt and Crowley in TEY, but holy shit we don’t talk enough about how he also managed to accidentally write the two most trans characters ever.
Alyss and Will being trans is a semi-popular headcanon that’s been in the fandom for ages now, but I haven’t seen many people really dive into why this headcanon is so prevalent. I think that partially has to do with the fact that, like any lgbtq+ identity, it’s pretty difficult to clock someone as trans without relying on trans stereotypes. Really, any character in the RA series could be trans if you chose to believe it since being trans doesn’t look any certain way. That being said, I do think there are some pretty clear qualities and experiences that Will and Alyss have that feel very close to my own experience with being transgender.
Physical appearance is usually the first thing people point out/notice when talking about this headcanon. Will is short, more so than one might expect from a cis man. Alyss is taller than most men and also has a deep voice. I have mixed feelings about people pointing to this as the only reason they think they’re trans. I mean, it makes enough sense for it to be the only reason since one part of being trans is the fact that one’s body doesn’t match their gender identity. What I don’t like about that being the only reason is that there’s so much more to the trans identity and experience than “body don’t match :(“
But that’s the cool thing about Will and Alyss, their physical appearance effects their perception of themselves the same way it does for a trans person (or a cis person really, but it feels much more prevalent in trans people). In the first book, Will is clearly uncomfortable with his height; almost any time it’s brought up, he replies with “I haven’t had my growth spurt yet”, almost defensively. Then, as Will becomes more comfortable with who he is, you can see it bother him less and less. I love this bc it’s exactly what happened with my dysphoria as I transitioned. The more I got to know myself and discover myself, the less my dysphoria bothered me.
As for Alyss, she is so clearly so confident with her appearance. She never tries to hide her height or voice. Although we don’t get to see her journey with those qualities, the way she’s so confident feels like something the earned. It’s something she maybe used to feel insecure about, then decided she gets to decide what femininity means to her. Her height and voice contribute to her elegance and femininity rather than contradict them.
Another thing about Will is his name and how it relates to his identity. I know Flanagan didn’t intend for any of this to be some trans allegory, but goddamn can I relate my trans experience to it. Will grew up without a last name, and you can see how deeply that effects him. It wasn’t just that he was “Will no-name”, he was missing a part of his identity. Hell, he said verbatim “at least you know who you are” to a fucking owl because he felt so confused and unheard (which btw is the most edgy teen thing he ever did).
Though you can see this missing part of his identity bother him less as he gained a support system, it’s still clear that he felt like something was missing. If he didn’t feel like something was missing, he wouldn’t have been so incredibly happy when he became “Will Treaty”. And when he got his last name, you can tell he’s proud, not because he finally has an identity, but because he finally has a name to match the identity he’s spent so long discovering and cultivating. He no longer expresses any sadness or grief that he doesn’t have his father’s last name, because he doesn’t need it to know who he is. He’s Will Treaty, and he’s perfectly happy with being exactly that. This is the most trans-coded naming experience holy shit.
Anyway that’s all I have to say about this (for now at least). Go give your local trans friend a kiss.

I don't use twitter much anymore (since I got suspended for no reason lol) but I just wanna talk about the /morston bashing/.... It is unbearable on that app. People give the most asinine reasons why shipping morston or really anything that they personally dislike makes you morally corrupt in real life and deserving of harassment. It's really repetitive atp and I roll my eyes at it but all these years later and it's still very much prevalent.
So out of fear of being cancelled there is a severe lack of discourse and in-depth analysis surrounding John/Arthur's dynamic... and vandermorgan too, don't get me started on that.... Everyone loses their hair over a mildly "problematic" fictional relationship. Bunch of fake fujoshis.
It's always selective outrage, depending on what the majority in a certain fandom decides to like and hate on because most claims that deem ships problematic have actually no validity to them.
Take me back to the good old days when it was perfectly normal to fangirl over even the most obscure crack ship. When fiction was just fiction and not a reflection of your morals and political identity.
It's the same with liking villain characters. "you can't like this character!! bc he's EVIL!1!! he did this nd that ur just as evil for liking them you deserve to be tortured and stoned to death blah blah blah"
How utterly boring, and again it doesn't apply to every morally grey character. It hinges on the opinion of which character/ship the majority in a particular fandom elect to unequivocally bully
It's entirely subjective policing, which is absolutely ridiculous. Where do you actually draw the line?
I say if you are unable to engage with fiction on a level that's separate and disconnected from reality, if morally grey fiction corrupts your very soul and compels you act and behave in indecent ways, you should stop consuming it entirely.
Stick to your children's fables, kid.
None of this has any affect on my love for morston, in fact it strengthens it LOL. Shipping morston becomes almost like an act of defiance.
I'm grateful that at least on Tumblr and other spaces I can enjoy the fan art, fanfics or comics and knowing someone out there is raging and seething at the sight of it is kinda hilarious so it makes it all the more enjoyable. It's when they decide to feign moral superiority and launch their sheep following to attack and harass you with their nasty words wishing actual death on you irl, that is when it does get under my skin. That is just too far. But I think that is a reasonable reaction for me to have.

ambassador katara became a famous trope in early 2014, with "Once Around The Sun" on Ao3. that fic also set the tone for zutara fics that came after it, the anti aang and ant mai sentiment, assassination attempts (on katara's life, for the most part) and zuko's council refusing to accept katara as zuko's lover. i've been in the fandom since 2010, not in the last four years, I worded my rant not in the best way, sorry for that. the four years I talked about are referring to zukka's rise in popularity. If you check Ao3, the first zukka fic there is from 2008. lt's a ship that did exist but not since the beginning and not with the popularity of nowadays. After that 2008 fic, the next one is from the same year and then another one is published in 2009. And then other three during 2010. And then nine during 2011. And the number goes up in next years but really rises in 2020 (atla was added on netflix that year and we were in quarantine, that gave people a lot of time to watch and create content). Also, the majority of the 2008-2013 are accessible only to registered users, probably in light to the fact the homophobia in the fandom was ery strong. fire lady katara was more prevalent, yes, but any fic (and fanart) you check from 2014 and foward will be more kely to have ambassador katara rather than ire lady katara and when they do have her as fire lady, is really towards the end of the fic or in sequences of ambassador katara. i honestly think the first ambassador fanfic was a zutara fanfic, before OATS, on fanfiction.net on 2007. the earliest ambassador sokka fic as you stated is from 2008, but I don't know which site you're using as a metric poor little zuko is a common trope in non-zukka fics (since the majority of atla fics are zuko-centric), even zutara ones, but the majority of the ones i see with katara being "meaner" than she was in the series and sokka "needing to intervene, are zukka. a good portion of "the gaang learns how zuko got his scar" also fall under that label i don't care how "homophobic katara" got started and this isn't me being rude, just honest. It's out of hand and it's an annoying fucking trope (don't now if I can even call it that) and while it isn't common as "mean katara and savior sokka'" it's just as misogynist. Some authors really tried to keep as a little saint and then dunk prejudice on katara I recognize there are zutara shippers who are misogynist to mai but I never denied that. I was talking about zukka and their treatment of katara, I don't see why I would mention mai when she isn't even included in most of zukka fics. If you want to talk about mai hate, be my guest, you're probably more well versed than me since I don't engage with mai related content, being it anti or pro someone before you mentioned suki tho and that's something i wish i had included in my original ask. the show really disregards suki as does the fandom, it's annoying as hell to read a fic and they diminish sokka's feelings or her or make her jealous bc he's dating zuko
Okay, so I did further research into this. And I was right in the sense that Ambassador Sokka was not just a Zukka thing. The earliest Ambassador Sokka fic I have found is a 2006 fic on fanfiction.net. It is a Sokkla fic. There seem to be a few of them, it might actually be originally a Sokkla trope. I also found an Ambassador Toph/Zuko also from 2008. I think it might have just been popular across most ships at the time. A popular trope in general as opposed to one assigned to a specific ship, however it seems to have started with Sokkla unless you can find an earlier one. (The fic is on fanfiction.net).
I was in the fandom in 2014 but I still don't recall a lot of Ambassador Katara fics. Maybe this is because I was not a hardcore Zutara shipper. I remember I saw a lot of Fire Lady Katara stuff but maybe that was mostly from before. I genuinely saw the ambassador trope with Zukka first. Also, the first 'Zukka' fic I found was from 2005 on fanfiction.net but it also used to be referred to as SoZu at one point by some people. (Ao3 was created in 2008 btw, you can just backdate fics to when they were originally created/posted since it is an archive)
Honestly, I do not know how you are encountering so much homophobic Katara, I have not seen it that much and I like Zukka a lot. I have definitely seen these 'mean Katara' whump fics a lot with various characters needing to intervene. Even Hakoda in some. But most I have encountered have been gen fics.
I just brought up the general misogyny in the fandom because I believe it is a huge problem that goes largely unaddressed (or at least not properly addressed). People just seem to like to point the finger at various parts of the fandom but it's everywhere and it's very upsetting. You pointed out the Homophobia in the Zutara fandom, so I brought up that they also have a misogyny problem as well. Because the whole fandom has one. (Also, I love Mai.)
I have never encountered a Zukka fic villainizing Suki but maybe I just got better at identifying when a fic is going to be like that after my experiences with the Zutara fandom in the earlier days when there was a lot of bitterness over the ship not being made canon. (Fanfiction to vent is valid, I just wish it was easier to filter out. No hate to Zutara shippers, being upset about your ship and making content to vent is completely normal)
It's normal to diminish the feelings of the canon ship when doing your own ship. They usually do that, otherwise the characters would be with their canon love interest. I can't think of a non-canon ship where at least one of the people in the ship has a canon relationship where they haven't done that. Zutara does that. Zukka does that. Azutara does that. Ect. It's kinda par for the course

i enjoy a lot of your metas and i'm curious, what is your opinion on writers who aren't familiar with or care about canon?
it depends on if you're asking about fan content or actual DC writers. with fan content i do think its fine for people to engage with content however they want to. i don't really like content that contradicts established canon, but i do defend its right to exist in the first place. OOC fanfic doesn't usually* effect already existing canon.
adding a read more bc i started to rant a bit. TLDR: fan content creators can do whatever they want. separately, i really wish DC held itself to a higher standard. both as a company and in terms of the actual comics that they publish.
(*i say usually, because a lot of newer canon content has felt... off. like DC took a short shallow look at how fandom simplifies characters and decided that must be what people actually want to see/what will sell more product. never forget that DC is a corporation, not an actual person who cares about the artistic integrity of what they're producing. and many of the actual creators of the comics they sell are mistreated and beholden to exec decisions based off of. y'know. marketing.)
in canon comics. it sucks. Talia is the most prevalent example of a character who was rewritten by someone who refused to read or engage with any of her preexisting canon. but it comes up a lot that sometimes a character is used by or given to a writer who doesn't care or might just straight up hate the character they're supposed to be writing. I have characters that I don't like and don't really care to learn about, but if i decide that i want to write something with them involved i consider it a matter of personal integrity to at least try to understand the characters already established personality and background.
it doesn't matter when it's independent fan content, or even a published AU series, but for mainline comics it is important to account for the fact that most of these characters have been around for decades and you shouldn't, nor do you need to, just make shit up about them.
also! an idea that i try and maintain for any kind of story is that every character is somebody's favorite. i think i got that from someone talking about how every pokemon is some kids favorite, but i think it can be a useful framing for a lot of fictional content. especially with something as widely known as DC, the chances are that much higher that every character you see is going to be someone's favorite. and i want to be kind to that. like, i don't care about Punchline in the slightest. i'm still putting off this fic with her involved because i want to learn her character a bit first to at the bare minimum acknowledge that there are people who might love her. i don't want to explicitly contradict some major trait of hers just bc i don't like her.
again, i don't really care if fans don't go through the trouble. but it's upsetting when DC itself doesn't seem to require any understanding of their characters in what they publish. in older comics, even when i think certain comics are poorly written, i can still see when the writer cares about the character they're writing. but so much of the newer stuff just feels hollow to me. i dunno, i stopped reading any n52 stuff bc of it so maybe it'll improve and i just won't notice.

21. What piece of widely accepted fanon do you disagree with? 🔫
okay i do not want to start an armed conflict so i will not say certain things. um i forget how "widely accepted" stuff is among the fandom outside my mutual circle but one that i know is prevalent and that pisses me off is the jokes about sisko being the dad of deep space nine. i know that sisko is an actual father, and it's an important part of who he is, but i honestly can't name a single member of his crew he has a fatherly relationship with. like kira? he's many things to her but not her dad. jadzia? she's a father to him! o'brien and sisko have got to be around a similar age, odo doesn't respect anyone from starfleet like that, julian you could maybe make that argument at a stretch but why would you? he's just not a dad captain despite being a captain who's a dad.
7. When did you start watching Star Trek? ⏳
i used to watch out of sequence episodes of tos when i was really young but i only started watching trek seriously when i was an older teenager, maybe 17 or 18? i can't remember off the top of my head
1. Your favourite episode? 💕
UGH i can never pick just one!!! i've been thinking a lot about in purgatory's shadow/by inferno's light recently bc me and my gf paused our ds9 watch right before those episodes so that's my provisional answer bc they do fuck. i'm always thinking about "victory is life" "today is a good day to die"

tbh even E/riels are disappointed with acosf but they don't say it to others although they talk about it among themselves lol I used to be one so I should know. acosf was Nesta's books everyone expected to see Elain more bc she was close to her and they also heard about the training so they were 100% sure they were going to see E/riel training scenes (the very one they accuse Gwynriel for being boring and they don't want Nessian 2.0 lmao) so when they didn't get that they started commenting on Gwynriel post of how they wanted Elain instead of Gwyn in those scenes (specially the shadows dancing around Gwyn and the private dagger lesson) and that's when the toxicity started and I knew this place was not for me anymore. even tho I used to be a bypass in the fandom and not actually fixated on the books I saw enough threats and bullying, it was bad. I came back on acotar fandom this summer after a very long time and even now the reek of jealousy from that side of the fandom is recognizable. the pure ignorance and delusion is quite amusing, they know E/riel won't happen but they have to make it look like they don't so their years of being obsessed with a fictional ship and bulling other fans, the author and publisher won't got to waist yk. bc when I read acosf for the first time I knew Gwynriel is endgame and even before that I wasn't a huge E/riel fan but I wanted to tolerate them for the possibility of them happening and not Elucien (after the end of acofas we weren't sure who would be endgame and I was quite sad bc I was more incline toward Elain and Lucien)
anyway if they were so confidence in their ship they wouldn't do none of that and let others enjoy their time being in the fandom.
Oop that’s some piping hot tea right there.
Honestly, why couldn't they just be as chill as Azris shippers?
Azris shippers understand that the likelihood of their ship is slim, but they can manifest and hope for the best. Through Love, all is possible!
Yes, it's quite possible! I can passionately support Gwynriel and Azris in tandem. E/riels can readily accept that Elucien is the endgame couple while finding delight in the hints and potentials of E/riel until the next book's release when perspectives may change. Although there may still be Neris shippers out there, I haven't observed any significant disrespect directed toward Nessian. It's possible that I might not be searching thoroughly, but it's heartening that it's not as prevalent as the mainstream rivalry between Elucien and Gwynriel vs. E/riel.
I perceived ACOSAF as a retcon of Elucien, as Elain's abrupt shift from suggesting Lucien move to Velaris to ignoring him lacked a clear explanation of their deteriorating relationship. More on this later.
I get why E/riel shippers held onto hope after ACOSAF, even though I viewed their connection as more platonic. Azriel's deep love for Mor was abundantly clear in the series, and the Hybern scene hinted at the endgame couples, particularly Moriel, which was reinforced by SJM's deleted Pinterest.
In my view, Gwyn embodies a blend of Mor and Elain, sharing Mor's trauma, the ability to fit in with "one of the boys," a girl-next-door quality, and an interest in combat, while also displaying Elain's quiet and reserved nature.
On a more serious note, it's entirely possible to appreciate a ship without resorting to belittling anyone, whether it's a character without proper canon context or an actual person. Doubling down and resorting to insults becomes even more embarrassing. Perhaps this is due to a reluctance to acknowledge the scarcity of E/riel content to draw from.
Ironically, my anti-E/riel posts stem from my restraint in responding to most of their takes but they aren't inclined to listen, and I lack a suitable outlet to release my frustrations.
Additionally, I take issue with the way many books romanticize red flags as desirable relationship traits. It's crucial to recognize that Azriel's hesitancy to be his true self around Elain is an unhealthy dynamic, and it's not Elain's responsibility to change that. When someone acknowledges their actions as a mistake, it's wise to believe them and move on. This situation is reminiscent of the problematic "Twin Flame" concept, which often excuses negative behavior under the guise of a deeper connection.
But, thats why I don't like E/riel in a nutshell.
Gwyn and Lucien are fictional characters written to have a lot of trauma in their backstories. While they are not real, I can easily consider what you say about them as a reflection of what you truly believe to real people who have gone through something similar.

I’m sorry but “might have definitely dated” sounds funny af
Anyway personally I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Whether people believe Leah dated Jordan or not (i think it’s kinda insane not to but i get it for people who weren’t around at a time. The last Valentines day when they posted for. each other Leah also liked some tweets from a woso journo praising the gay couples who were brave enough to post each other for making everyone feel like woso is a welcoming community. Patting herself on the back there Leah 😂)
What was i saying… whether people believe they dated or not it’s been pretty well known or at least suspected that Leah was into girls even before she started dating Jordan. She used to get spotted quite often at a gay club in MK, Pink’s, even tweeted herself about going there once (and got hate from a bunch of weirdo men. as an 18 yr old. imagine ffs), first day after deleting Jordan from her insta after they most likely broke up she was pictured at a wlw event.. she didn’t waste any time there lol
And I don’t think Leah herself is too hung up on labels and would feel insulted. Most people i know see gay as an umbrella term anyway. See the comment she made on this insta post replying to her friend:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CTIHUQ-Kl9S/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
“Big dyke vibes” lmao. Unless she meant “big dick vibes” which fair play to her ig 🔥💪
Anyway that’s just my 2 cents. You’re never gonna see me going to her insta and commenting “gay ass outfit” under her posts but i also don’t think we should police people that hard and be so overprotective. I feel like Leah gets infantilized a lot by the fandom bc people are under the impression that she was trying to become more private with Jordan and didn’t want anyone knowing about their relationship. When in reality they’ve just been broken up the entire time. It was only hopeful delusion and i think deep inside fans knew bc the change up was too sudden and without any real catalyst. I would’ve been suspicious if it happened when Leah was named permanent captain and gained popularity but it happened before that
Hm, yeah. I just think that I've been in too many fandoms where shipping between friends (most often) is way too prevalent, which probably is why I feel kinda iffy about certain rumors and whatnot between some players (not Leah in particular but), because there's been alot of celebrities that have actually spoken out about how uncomfortable shipping makes them.
Which is also why I don't really like to talk about possible couples or those kind of things (some ships are just unhinged too)
It was very clear that there has been a falling out between her and Jordan, which I assume would be the break up but friends fall out all the time without making it public.
Also the gay club thing I find so funny, like idk why but Leah is so funny(not the right word but)

to be frank, I don’t think dean is closeted lol.
I think he’s afraid to be loved but he’s got many many moments in the show where he’s clearly open with men and women, along with fulfilling his own romantic needs through hookups. it makes much more sense to me for dean to have fallen in love with cas, misunderstood and believe that cas doesn’t return his feelings (bc early seasons cas kept disappearing every time dean wanted him to stay bc he’s got his own misunderstandings about everything) and then tried to live on. it still works with a lot of other popular analysis, I just find the idea of assuming a character to be closeted just because they have trauma and are coded to be gay or bi, to be….restrictive?
it’s used very very often in fan interpretations of queer coded characters and sometimes becomes reductive of the character themselves. dean’s grown a lot from season 1, his issue is never that he doesn’t understand himself but rather he doesn’t have much hope for things working out the way he wants them to (whether that be a peaceful life or simply opening up more to Sam or Cas). he's extremely open and clear about his feelings with anybody who isn't depending on his stoic pretense (or rather he sees them as depending on him always having his shit together). so I see him as someone who knows his own romantic inclinations, but is extremely unlikely to try to pursue a relationship now
(ofc headcanons and AUs are all well and good, i just found the prevalence of the closeted tag on dean in fandom to be. conflicting, personally)

Wait, you've been a Sunny fan for 8 years?! You've got to tell us how it's been in that time!!! What's the vibe been like here in that time and how has it changed? What were the big fan theories? Was r/iasip always such a hellhole dumpsterfire? What are the big things from the fandom back in the day that we don't know about but should?
Ooooh lets see what I remember-
Charlie reigned supreme- like really and truly so many blogs and so, so much content was Charlie Charlie Charlie, everyday, all the time and I mean he still is insanely popular but definitely back in the day Charlie in the show and of the cast was easily the most popular, like it felt like 7/10 posts were about him. Glenn was next in line but I do distinctly remember Kaitlin and Rob didn't have as much content about them, at a certain point I kinda was the Kaitlin Olson tag, that's not me being up myself I just used to be in her tag constantly and it'd be a lot of posts in a row of just me- the girls of the series def didnt always get the love they should and I'm not really sure that's changed much ☠ But yeah this was also around the time that everyone was also going gaga about Pacific Rim so that def made Charlie even more popular too.
Macdennis has always, always been a popular pairing but their popularity 100% has skyrocketed the past few years, and I mean SKYROCKETED. Like they're on par with some wildly popular mlm ships nowadays and it's lowkey so funny to see em in the ring with like. destiel 😂 now when I go in the tag it seems half the posts feature mac and dennis, which is notable to me bc Mac especially was kinda... Unloved is not the right way to phrase it bc fans have always loved him but Rob/Mac def didn't get /as/ much love back in the day. Like people often spoke of him as the weakest character but after season 13 I think he's gained more appreciation.
Fans have def gotten much bigger on theories and stuff these days, I'm sure they had em back then too but it wasn't as prevalent and none particularly stand out, it was usually just the "X characters are secretly sleeping together" type beat. I also remember a popular theory that everyone was going to die in the inevitable series finale but then the show never got cancelled and I dont know what that was about?
Reddit has always been messy and there def was a pretty big us vs them type vibe between sunny fans back then- though it was less reddit vs tumblr and more "straight dude bros" vs everyone else like I remember so many posts being like "Ugh straight dude bros don't get the show" I probably made some of those posts 😂 Lots of "Mac isn't actually gay" too which is very, very funny in hindsight- No one ever thought they'd canonize his sexuality.
Ummm... Probably the most notable thing to me tho is seeing how popular the cast has become, like 8 years ago Danny was the only "Big name" Like the media absolutely spoke of the show as these no name people and Danny Devito. I mean that was not totally the case for Charlie, he was becoming more and more popular and gaining traction in the mainstream with pacific rim and the likes but with Glenn, Kaitlin and Rob they were definitely not super well known outside Big always sunny fans so seeing them go from that to Rob being besties with Ryan Reynolds and stuff has honestly been super interesting and funny. Like I remember posting rob and kaitlins wedding pictures and getting so many people going WAIT THEYRE MARRIED?? it was hilarious to see the transition.
Yeah those are probably the biggest changes I can think of- it's gotten more popular which explains most of it, shipping has def become a much bigger thing as well, ships were pretty chill back then, there wasn't too much fic or art so thats different now :)
OH BUT ART! There's always been wonderful fan artists but nowadays wowee!! some amazing art for the series, like much more abundant! That's the gist of it :)

vera talks mlb: the movie — thoughts and drabbles
I cant even breathe rn, I watched the movie 4 hours ago and here’s my (now) settled thoughts about it.
picture of how I felt in that moment:
Tumblr media
warning: spoilers for the MLB movie :DDD
so I have been a fan of this show since it came out, god I was FUCKING 16 then and now I’m 24 jfc…. it’s so wild how much time has passed.
now, the main show was SO good until season 4. I stopped watching the show all together because of how messy the plot was, Gabriel being the biggest pos known to man & how stalkerish they made Marinette (not to mention totally delulu and borderline insane (though, with all due respect, its a lot for a 15? 16 year old ???) but they could have written it better imo.)
not only Marinette but Adrien still being a small minor role (it’s always ladybug doing the damn thing but chat noir is left doing nothing it’s fucking sad he deserves so much better) and him just being shit on the last 3 seasons. he deserves more screentime and character development.
I also couldn’t handle adrien being a senti-monster, but we ain’t gonna talk abt that.
so I left the fandom all together.
but this movie. this. god. damn. movie.
this is HOW THE SHOW SHOULD HAVE BEEN WRITTEN IN THE FIRST PLACE. the character development with Marinette and Adrien is AMAZING and feels more realistic to me— they really drive on how unlucky Marinette is and how lucky adrien is (to an extent for adrien, but I digress). and the whole library scene made me giggle it was so cute. Marinette being infatuated but not a stalker was nice to see.
movie ladybug & chat noir sparked my feelings for the fandom all together. how cocky chat noir is, ladybug being anxious to fail but finding solace with chat made my heart all warm. every scene they had together I was kicking my feet and screaming like a child. (they own me, lol)
I have to specifically mention THE FUCKING FIGHT SCENE WHERE CHAT NOIR HAS LADYBUG PINNED TO THE WALL BC WHEN IT HAPPENED I HAD TO PAUSE, LEARN HOW TO BREATHE AGAIN, COLLECT MY THOUGHTS AND CONTINUE. THE PURE TENSION IN THAT MOMENT. “I really should go home now.” “don’t” DO YOU WANT TO KILL ME ?!?!?! GOD IM STILL SCREAMING ABT IT 😭😭😭 they had electric hearts babe DONT EVEN LIE
their chemistry in the film just. made me feel things. they have an amazing dynamic and it was utilized. i wish it was more prevalent in the show series—the banter was everything.
I definitely was caught off guard when cristina wasn’t singing, but I got used to it
master fu was also super good too !! I defo prefer him in the show but movie fu slayed
chloe being chloe but not overdoing it made me :)))).
even alya and nino were written exceptionally.
tikki was written well, loved her, but plagg made me give him the side eye… where is his annoying ass. he can make fart jokes but please keep his sly demeanour.
gabriel was extremely well written, might just be the best character that was re-vamped imo. his storyline made sense and it wasn’t completely heartless…. using the miraculous and him slowly getting weaker and weaker made so much sense. (the musical number tho, SO FUNNY)—but god, when he found out chat noir was adrien he stopped. stopped everything. he loves his son so much, just as much as he loves emilie. we’ll see where the potential next movie goes with him, but lord his character is what I wish show gabriel was like.
the end scene at the ball made my jaw DROP. marinette looked amazing in her dress oh my god— and then the almost kiss I was MAD but also happy bc after that it opened the door for a sequel so ILL TAKE IT.
also when marinette takes off adrien’s mask and puts it on was so fucking cute 😭 the atmosphere was all warm and wholesome.
also giving props to chloe because her gold dress ate down.
sabine gave me helen parr vibes and i don’t know why.
tom being the overprotective dad 😭
anyways, i probably missed some things
but this movie, in my opinion, ate the show for breakfast and became the meal i’ve wanted for several years. MOVIE IS 1000x better than the show series and i stand by that statement forever.
if you haven’t seen it, watch it immediately.

2, 6, 18 and 23 for Black Clover and if you know it, Fairy Tail <3
Okay okay! We've got some more attention for Fairy Tail coming in! Thank you for the asks, for both fandoms!
2) Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
BC: I can ship YamiNacht but more as a crack ship. I take it 30% seriously... I'm more for the BroTP of those two.
FT: Erza x Minerva. I've seen the ship. I know I'm not hallucinating that. But I prefer them as enemies to friends.
6) Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
Oooohhhhh... That's... I don't think that's ever happened to me before. I've learned to like ships that I first thought didn't make sense. But I don't think I've ever gone from distinctly hating a ship to enjoying it.
I mean, I used to really hate Kyoujurou x Akaza (not BC or FT but it's the only example I have) but now I can kinda enjoy and laugh at it. But only when it's discussed by very specific people in specific contexts. So I can't genuinely say I went from hating to enjoying Renkaza, I just learned to like when certain people write it.
Sorry if the answer if dull and underwhelming. That's just my experience...
18) Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased?
Not shipping something popular doesn't mean you're in denial. It just means that you don't happen like what a lot of people do like.
For a non-shipping example, I don't like nuts/nut flavored snacks. I'm not allergic. I just don't like them. But nuts are very prevalent in snacks and desserts, super popular. It's not that I'm in denial that nuts are good and people like them, they just don't appeal to me. I have tried eating nut-based products but I just keep reconfirming that I don't like them. It's the same thing with shipping, it's about how a ship appeals to a person. And sometimes the most popular thing won't appeal to someone's tastes.
As for biases, I can't really write that off because everyone will always have a bias/opinion about everything. I will prefer the "childhood friends to lovers" ship over the "fling that became more" ship; that's my bias. And if a person's bias happens to be against a "popular" ship, telling them that they're wrong for having their opinion is not going to do anything except cause trouble.
PSA: if someone doesn't like a "popular" ship that you happen to like, that's fine. It's their opinion and you do not have to devote your energy to disagreeing with them/convincing them to like the "popular" thing. It's as simple as telling yourself to not care about it.
23) Unpopular character you love?
BC: SOLID AND NEBRA! THE MIDDLE SILVAS GET SO MUCH FLAK BUT I LOVE THEM AND WANT THEM REDEEMED!
FT: There are unpopular characters in Fairy Tail? I'm distant from Fairy Tail so I'm not quite sure which characters are unpopular or just... very minor characters that don't get much attention. So my answer for this will be the Oracion Seis group. Erik, Sorano, and Macbeth are a little popular I think but not Richard or Sawyer. But let me tell you, Richard's backstory episode made me cry when I rewatched the Oracion Seis a while ago. Soft spot in my heart for Richard!

No the posts were definitely hating on fem luke and especially the reply one posted by the author of the not the boy cheating fic. Which you liked so don’t backtrack now.
Alright, so I'm off work now and went and reread the two posts you guys are referencing. This will be in response to all the anons in my ask box rn.
Idk about you, but I don’t have to think “wow I would write this myself, every word is like it came straight from my brain, it is now gospel to me” to hit the like button on a tumblr post as I scroll. I do it because I found it in someway interesting or relatable. I'm still getting used to ppl even noticing me on here, but I wasn't trying to tell fem!Luke writers they are inherently bad, that's not even what I got out of those posts--if I had, I would have just kept scrolling. I see now quite a few people found me doing that to be hateful though, so I'm happy I could explain my own opinion when someone wanted it. I, again, apologize for unintentionally hurting anyone; fictional characters mean a lot less to me than living breathing humans.
Rereading my tags, people may be mad I put "anti fem!Lucerys"? I usually add anti to things if they're talked about with any sort of critique, just bc I want people who have that tag filtered to not see anything approaching criticism on their dash. (I have anti alicent hightower filtered out, for instance, so it's annoying to me when people don't tag it properly). I like criticism/hot takes for most things lucemond but I know a lot of people don't.
Unlessss it's that I wrote fans who refuse any portrayal but fem!Luke being “weird (not good)"? I was being brief since it was just tags, but was referring to how many people have such a preference that they hate on everything that doesn’t fit their fem/bottom view of Luke. It's weird, it's not good. My fic somehow filtered out most of them by my first few chapters, so I got lucky, but that's always been concerning for me to see in other comment sections. DLDR, ya know?
As for the second post, the part that 'people should just go for Aemondxfem!oc more often' was a controversial statement I wholeheartedly agree with (not that it matters?? people can use the name Lucerys however it pleaseth them). But also I liked their last few paragraphs that reiterate what I’m telling you now—I’m not here to police anyone. I’m not here to force anyone to like what I like or be careful about the things I think are important, or vice versa. This fandom is soooo tropey and polarizing in every way and that's fascinating to me, and I do think some weirdly-prevalent tropes in this ship can contribute to stereotypes when they’re used en masse (honestly I have way more personal dislike for toxic abusive Aemond being romanticized, let's not even start)….but I’ll say it again, my opinion literally means nothing and at the end of the day I more care that people enjoy what they like. I would be a hypocrite otherwise.
You can be mad at me if you want. Your prerogative. But someone asked me to clarify, so I did, and people can make of it whatever they will and unfollow me etc etc if that will help. I'm just now noticing the lucemond tag is flooded with talk about this (and some fun fem!Luke recs)--it's definitely a bigger deal than I ever thought to make of it while doomscrolling last night, so my wisdom failed me there.
Shout out to those genuinely hurt by me--idk how many, but y'all are valid.

i saw this going around on twitter :3c lolz
facts abt me to SHOCK my followers!!!!!!!!!!!!
- when i was 12-13 I ran a decently popular instagram account within the object show community (laugh at me i used to be an oscer...) where i posted out of context images and most of the suggestions I got were just cropped porn. the account got banned and i couldn't appeal because I didn't have my own phone number since i was literally 13 LMAOO
- most popular tiktok got 170k likes and it was a portal 2 shitpost. I deleted it because it didn't fit my account
- I had a hyperfixation on 80's pizza animatronics at one point (NOT FNAF) and I waz genuinely a part of the chuck e cheese fandom. its unironically very toxic and like half the people involved are either racist or pedophiles so i almost got groomed by a 30 year old guy
- I met one of my best friends who i still actively speak to through animal jam roleplays
- I may have caused 100s of dollars in property damage to a zellers store when i was 5 bc I knocked down a cabinet display with jewelry but I genuinely cant tell if my brother was just lying to me about this one so it's up to interpretation
- my pokemon card collection is worth over 1k
- when i was in middle school I was a little shit and wrote a bunch of anonymous reviews to my school about how homophobia was extremely prevalent and imnot kidding like a month after that they started the GSA club. Im still convinced that I did that.

Wait what dumbassery got tweeted? I wanna see it so I can laugh
lol okay under a read more bc i was like "i don't have the energy rn to spark a whole discussion about this" but then it got kinda long anyway so. the tweet itself is your average annoying twitter bullshit but it speaks to a wider pattern that really fucking pisses me off and worries me so that's what this is about
someone tweeted this, which had like 900 likes and multiple people in the replies and qrts going "omg did she really do this/when did she do this" and op would be like "it's a joke," to which the reply would always be "oh well it does sound like something she'd do."
Tumblr media
it's a) not funny in the first place lol and b) a very common type of joke to make, hinging on this widely-accepted idea that frank and lynz hate each other and are petty about it, and that lynz abuses gerard & is extremely controlling. both of these things are literally completely fabricated but people just believe them, and it really goes to show how all these people who hate lynz sooo much don't hate her for the reasons they claim to. these people could not any more transparently give less of a shit about jimmy urine's abuse victim when it really feels like they gleefully use her as an "excuse" to make frerard "jokes" where lynz is a villain. it's disgusting and so so insensitive. domestic abuse is also such a fucking disgusting thing to accuse people of with literally zero evidence besides the kind of thing that was touted on blogs like ode2's, including things like "lynz saying she deadheads the flowers is her sending messages that she emotionally or physically enjoys beating gerard into submission" and "the way gerard's behaving on instagram (i.e. not using it very often) just feels fishy to me...something must be wrong" and "frank and lynz are sharing coded messages about hating each other via opossum memes on their instagram stories or in their instagram likes".
my point is: if you really hated lynz THAT much for reasons such as her association to msi and the tweets where she claimed to have indian descent and was weird to people who called her on it, then you should not need to invent additional reasons to hate her. you would also have to admit that those two things are not exclusive to lynz since everyone in mcr also has extensive voluntary associations with msi, most of all gerard and frank, who have also done/said racist things in the past, and you would have to come up with reasons why you are willing to forgive them but not lynz. i also don't like lynz and find a lot of her actions distasteful but it's literally impossible to get a reasonable explanation from any of the mcr fans who hate her SO much for the depth of this hatred without them including complete fabrications or deeply bad-faith suppositions (or actively misogynistic comments) in those explanations. it's extremely transparent and only goes to show how little these people care about the actual genuine issues related to jimmy/msi and weird racist comments/claims.
also as a side point i don't understand why people also love to act like frank is a perfect innocent in any situation to the point where they'll literally make up reasons to like him or claim that he's on "their side" (e.g. the idea that he hates msi when he was a vocal fan). i love frank so much but fandom as a whole seems to have such a weirdly distorted view of him, despite him being the one in the band who's most open about his thoughts and feelings/life in general. or maybe for that reason? he certainly seems to be the one people project onto the most with a lack of self-awareness about what they're doing, idk. it's weird though frank is such a lovable and admirable guy but sometimes i see the way some of his intense fans talk about him and i honestly feel like they're talking about a different person? of course none of us really know him at all but idk i really feel like the version of him that exists in the most prevalent fan-driven frerard narrative is so bizarrely separate from reality skfjfkssk. idk anyway that's kind of off-point, the most important thing here is that if you make things up about frank or attribute your own opinions to him when he hasn't actually said anything like that (e.g. hating msi or hating lynz) you're gonna get further and further down that rabbithole and end up setting yourself up for disappointment when frank inevitably doesn't behave/think the way you want him to irl lol.
so anyway i qrted that tweet, and op deleted their account between my second and third tweet here lol.
