wELL - The thing I adore about Puppets is they are what their creators 'assign' them to be - and depending on their clothes and hair they would be assumed either gender, or in some cases, neither!

TO ANSWER: The reason WB goes by 'He' is because that is how Bailey/Lulu refers to him! They/he/she/it has no concept of gender and probably wouldn't find it interesting even if he could grasp it. It is beyond him!

As for Lore: Corduroy Stew takes place primarily in a 60s -70s era, where these kinds of things weren't super acceptable. Bailey created WB as a male technically (for the sake of his audience) but allows them to walk the line. Bailey doesn't get along with other men/male presenting things super well anywho-

Hi raccoon anon here, I understand. it did get me thinking though, what would happen (completely separate from the curse au) if mesmerus straight up turned solider into a raccoon?

for starters, Soldier loves it

he still tries to run the team, marching around on the table during breakfast and chattering as if he's giving a speech. everyone just watches him while they eat, but sometimes someone will scruff him and set him outside and close the door so they can have a quiet morning

the only way any of the team is able to tell him apart from the others is he's larger than the rest and continues to wear his helmet over his head. it takes the team a while to even notice, since they're used to the raccoons running around anyway. but once someone notices that there hasn't been a 5:15 AM wake up call in a couple days, and the new raccoon, it's quickly determined what's happened

he's constantly running into things because he can't see and it's only then everyone wonders how he doesn't do that when he's a human

there's a long debate on whether or not the team even wants to turn him back. they call Miss Pauling as a tie breaker and she is baffled it was even a debate to begin with. it still takes some convincing to get them to go catch him and take him to Merasmus to try and fix this

Sniper, Spy, Medic, and Scout were the ones who voted to leave him a raccoon

Merasmus only did it because Soldier unleashed raccoons into his new house, again. it's the sixth time he's had to abandon a house because it became infested with raccoons and he was fed up with it, so as expected he wasn't too keen on reversing it. and he would've gotten away with it.. if the Mercs didn't start debating on who to call of the many mafias he owes money to

Soldier gets turned back in the end, but he still sometimes makes a chattering noise when he gets frustrated. and suspiciously every full moon, he's nowhere to be seen until morning when he walks into the base, wearing only his helmet and covered in dirt and trash

Scout swears he's seen a tail on him but no one believes him
