General opinion: I feel similar to him the way I feel ab fabia,,, held back by the writing. I always felt like he’s just like the typical good knight character who they don’t really delve more into as a person, other than the backstory/moments of him and Neo. Both him and Fabia are characters I’ve had to force myself to see more into bc upon first and second viewing I just really did not care much for them. I’d say I have a bit more appreciation for them now tho

I actually have a similar ask to this one which I'll write soon enough, but I've thought about the reverse in this exact scenario and I honestly could tell you it would not happen/wouldn't happen the same.

you couldn't tell cove you want to leave baxter for him before you leave him.. he would never reciprocate in that situation bc he feels like he'd already be disrespecting your relationship n baxter just by talking about it and then getting together.

compared to if you leave baxter and Then tell cove you like him, he'd be shocked and ask to wait bc you just got out of a relationship and he just couldn't bring himself to date you after that confession

basically you'd have to prove you're ready and not just saying it bc you got bored of baxter.

so it'll be at least a full year or more before cove would even bring it up again.

it's not bc he was giving himself time to start liking you back or time to prepare himself to reject you, he just wants to make sure you aren't saying that for a little giggle and that you've had time to move on from baxter. even if you stopped loving him, you loved him at some point and shared your life with him.

in the angst au, I imagine baxter always loved MC and that's why he's just letting things happen like this, and that he thinks this is his only chance to be loved back..

so compared to him, cove would be very blindsided and I actually think he'd be angry if you confessed to him before or after breaking up w baxter (more so if you do it before) and he'd ask for some distance and it'd be another year or 2, in fact closer to 2, before he is ready to accept your feelings.

cove takes his feelings for you very seriously, he wants to make sure your mind is clear when you're dating and even if he wouldn't consider baxter a friend, he couldn't bring himself to date you n be "happy" knowing that baxter is watching you move on so quickly.
