Nephelai is the setting of my speculative biology project, and a very weird planet.

The best way I can describe it is that it’s a cold venus. Its atmosphere is mostly composed of ammonia, methane, and nitrogen in copious amounts, resulting in a powerful greenhouse effect that warms the planet despite its distance from its low-heat star. The resulting cloud cover also blocks all light from reaching the surface.

 Cloud formation is spurred by temperature gradients between layers of the atmosphere, which help insulate the planet and promote even more temperature difference. The intense polarization results incredibly frequent, violent storms, which happen to also be the main energy source for surface-bound life. 

That’s right, life on Nephelai is electricity based! The combination of cold temperatures, reliable electricity sources, and ammonia-based physiology make this method of metabolism more efficient than typical chemical metabolism, at least for macroorganisms. Energy is gathered and exchanged through raw currents rather than molecular vectors, though organisms do still need to eat to keep their physical cells intact. The line between consumer and producer is blurred here, with many fascinating combinations of both lifestyles.

Anyway here’s a medley of surface organisms, described from left to right. Absolutely not an exhaustive list.

Figure 1: A species of tree analogue. Basically a living lightning rod. Prolific across the planet, and extremely important for all ecosystems they’re in. Owners of the largest battery organs on the planet, which they use to survive for years at a time without storms.

Figure 2: a mobile tree analogue! Part of a whole niche known as ‘stormchasers’, organisms that follow the wake of thunderstorms to harvest energy. Gigantism is common in this niche for the same reason it’s common in the deep sea. Inhabits the plains of the equator’s hurricane band.

Figure 3: Another stormchaser, this one smaller but faster. The ‘head’ is a purely sensory bulb, with the brain being inside the main body. Eats other organisms for the material aspect of its diet.

Figure 4: Mid-sized predator. Uses bioluminescent spots on its knees to hunt by sight, but is overall more of a hearing-based hunter. Their taxonomic class has no external tail-rod, and instead drains using conductive ‘fangs’ in its mouth.

Figure 5: Kyliyts. One of two sophont species. Cosmopolitan, flying pack-hunters that’re allergic to making permanent settlements. Live in inseperable groups of siblings called flocks.

Figure 6: Tipoon. The other sophont species. Rat-sized, very gregarious scavengers/ambush hunters that live in communities of high population density. In the same taxonomic class as Figure 3.

fall in love with her friend who carries a handful of napkins for you, who calls your name when she sees you even though you've never spoken

fall in love again and again:

when your friend from summer camp meets you for breakfast, one hundred miles out of his way on her drive home the next year when you don't go;

when your friend from middle school draws a picture of you in a game of gartic phone and remembers the outfit and hair style you always draw yourself with;

when your friend from high school reassures you that you're wanted at the movie night she's planned

…Hey, on IETYD3.

Making that big spiel on my alternate storyline idea has reinforced a certain view I have on this game:

[spoilers for IEYTD3, btw]

Dr. Prism allying with Zor may have been a mistake on Schell’s part.

Like, for one thing, there’s the extremely obvious ideological contradiction; Dr. Prism wants her robots to be “her lasting legacy”, but apparently sees no issue in her legacy being tied to the guys who tried to nuke multiple cities.

If she were a third party, this issue would be resolved almost immediately; she’s stealing Zor’s resources, in order to overturn both Zoraxis & the Agency, and make a world without either “form of control”, as she puts it.

Then at least her plan’s flaw is sensible; she has failed to realize that she would be just as controlling as Zor was, instead of “I’m going to enlist the help of a person who would immediately steal my work from me should I succeed, and this will never cross my mind.”

But for another thing, I feel like Third-Party Prism — and by extension, my ending for IEYTD3 — would send a much clearer message than the canon ending.

Like, we can all tell the robots are metaphors for the A.I. Boom, right?

Well, I think that the strongest message you can make about the Boom would be that “this technology, no matter how groundbreaking, will be taken by the powers at play for their own ends, regardless of the intentions of their creators”.

And what better way to embody this message than Zor commandeering a robot army to do all they desire with, and kicking out their creator to boot?

I’d say that sends a pretty strong message, wouldn’t you?

i'm making myself laugh thinking about this but I wholeheartedly believe madame morrible absolutely HATES the thought of glinda and elphaba being together like the mere mention of gelphie would probably send her into immediate cardiac arrest and it's not even because she's homophobic or anything I just fully believe she dislikes glinda so so much she's just like this is absolutely NOT happening in my house.

glinda and elphaba are having their gay ass moment and she's like "I sense a disturbance in the force; the wind is telling me those fucking lesbians are at it again."

like IK this woman hates to see glinda's fruity ass coming for several reasons but first and foremost I believe it's because she's so fucking ANNOYED by how much elphaba loves and cares for her, like this pink bitch is throwing a wrench in her plans just by EXISTING and being herself.
