so basically the hatsune miku lady is a person called anya reyes! she comes from,, not necessarily an overbearing family but ones who are depending on her success a lot (they live in like. an apocalyptic world with its main source of guidance being this very high-up sciencey official corporation and her parents are basically trying to get asylum there by convincing her to build some Grand Scientific Technological Marvel)

which she does! she spends her whole life constructing a...construction called the Orobo- the uh. the. Orub- the um. the Ouroboros Project (which is a nightmare to spell so let's just call it OBS for short) which is the first officially recognised time machine! yayyy!!

( it's important to note that OBS is not the first time machine. it is simply the first recognised one, as time machines are the second-most likely contraption to inadvertently ruin things massively if incorrectly used (the first-most being atomic bombs), and the first-most likely to erase any trace of their existence if REALLY incorrectly handled (mind-erasing devices take second place, as it was deemed the most incorrect usage of them would be as expensive and overly-complicated paperweights.))

this isnt plot relevant in any way. it's literally just random worlbuilding. funfact.)

so. OBS a) doesn't blow up, and b) allows anya and her family asylum inside the walls of this corporation. in fact, more than that, they're SO pleased about this invention that they even rename the corporation! this place used to be called the D.O.S.T. , or Department Of Space Travel after the fact they...made spaceships or whatever, but then renamed themselves to the D.O.S.T.T. , or Department Of Space-Time Travel. THAT'S how pleased they were. had to reprint all the paper napkins and monogrammed towels just for that.

and so, inside the D.O.S.T.T.s buildings, anya meets a guy called viktor cruz- who- you've guessed it! is the other guy i drew. he claims to have been there,, a little longer than her, but not by much- and has got in through the insane and wildly amazing way of umm...(checks my notes) passing the entrance exam. yeah they have one of those. first and last exam that man ever passed- but hey, it was enough!

hes a little less,, caught up on the existence of the OBS than most people- he's like oh sick that's cool but that's about as high as his levels of interest get on that matter and honestly anya appreciates that!! tying your life to one creation you didn't even really want to make yk. kinda sucks.

so they stick together <3 they're besties even- roomies, if you will

viktor helps anya dye her hair and get some periecings and really just be a bit wild with it all and in exchange she helps maintain his prosthetic (and sleep schedule) for that matter!

viktors whole thing is kind of like. he wants to find a nice hospitable planet somewhere and set up his own talkshow/podcast/radio kind of a thing and anyas like fuck yeah i wanna get out of here too can i come be a guest and he's like absolutely you can

you're in the habit of denying yourself things.

if someone asked you directly, you would say that you love a little treat. you like iced coffee and getting the cookie. you drink juice out of a fancy cup sometimes, and often do use your candles until they gutter out helplessly.

but you hesitate about buying the 20 dollar hand mixer because, like. you could just use your arms. you weren't raised rich. you don't get to just spend the 20 dollars (remember when that could cover lunch?), at least - you don't spend that without agonizing over it first, trying to figure out the cost-benefits like you are defending yourself in front of a jury. yes, this rice cooker could seriously help you. but you do know how to make stovetop rice and it really isn't that hard. how many pies or brownies would you actually make, in order to make that hand mixer worthwhile?

what's wild is that if the money was for a friend, it would already be spent. you'd fork over 40 without blinking an eye, just to make them happy. the difference is that it's for you, so you need to justify it.

and it sneaks in. you ration yourself without meaning to - you don't finish the pint of ice cream, even though you want to. the next time you go to the store, you say ah, i really shouldn't, and then you walk away. you save little bits of your precious things - just in case. sometimes you even go so far as putting that one thing in your shopping cart. and then just leaving it there, because maybe-one-day, but not right now, there's other stuff going on.

you do self-care, of course. but you don't do it more than like, 3 days in a row. after that it just feels a little bit over-the-edge. like. you can't live in decadence, the economy is so bad right now, kid.

so you don't buy the rice cooker. you can-and-will spend the time over the stove. you can withstand the little sorrows. denial and discipline are practically synonyms. and you're not spoiled.

it's just - it's not always a rice cooker. sometimes it is a person or a job or a hug. sometimes it is asking for help. sometimes it is the summer and your college degree. sometimes it is looking down at scabbed knees and feeling a strange kind of falling, like you can't even recognize the girl you used to be. sometimes it is your handprint looking unsteady.

sometimes it is tuesday, and you didn't get fired, and you want to celebrate. but what is it you like, even? you search around your little heart and come up empty. you're so used to denying that all your desires draw a blank.

In the early years when he first started, Simon didn't cancel class. It was kind of well known at that point. He'd rather spend the class chattering about his wife than cancel class, so imagine everyone's surprise when he sent out the collective email detailing that he was canceling class because his wife was in labor.

What.

He sent them the slides for the day and a previous recording from a while back, letting them know that class on Thursday would be on zoom — a link that he will post onto the class canvas eventually.

He signs off the email with a photo of the baby locked by a password hidden in the slides, and he replies to everyone's congratulations once you're back in the home. He ends up staying back to teach the rest of the term from home because he was taking care of the baby

It was something briefly mentioned on his rate my professor, detailing how Professor Riley had "Moved the rest of our semester online because he wanted to stay home and take care of his wife. How did the school allow this?" and "I for one loved the online classes and congrats to him for finally being a father — 5/5 for my semester tbh" but truth was while the rate my professors ratted him out, his students didn't mention that class was moved online at the time.

So, when he lets his class know that he'll be out for a couple of weeks and moving class online, everyone sends in their congratulations early, earning a furrow of his brows and a laugh from your lips as he reads his emails to you.

"They really read their RMP reviews huh?"

"Sure did. I didn't even mention it this time. I barely talk about our daughter." He hums, hand on your bump as the second kicks at it.

"Well, I think I walked in once or twice." You hum. "Besides, they like it online."

"I do too." He mumbles, pinching at his daughter's cheeks as she giggles. "But most people don't pick up enough when you teach online."

"That's true." You take the berry from your daughter's hand as she hands one to you and presses another to Simon's lips.

"Thank you, sweetheart."

She nods, eyes glued back onto the screen as you glance at the recent check-up results.

"You bet Johnny's gonna cancel class too?"

Uh, anyway, Shane is actually besties with Sam (he'd rather die than admit it though) and they constantly do things to spite Joja and Sam can actually get a good reaction from Shane with some of his jokes. Sam and him were kind of awkward at first, but after a while Sam saw him at the saloon one day and went "HEY!! MY BUDDY SHANE!! COME PLAY POOL WITH US!!" so loudly across the building that everyone turned to stare and Shane almost sped-walked out of the place out of embarrassment (he def stayed and played pool but kept his head down to avoid stares).

Sam constantly talks about funny things Shane does and Abigail and Sebastian are like, "??? The quiet, grumpy town drunk??" But after Sam dragged Shane into so many pool games, Shane loosened up and started a tournament with the old arcade games between the four of them (he kicks everyone's asses at it) and now Seb and Abbi are starting to get it.

There's a competition between him and Sam on who can steal the largest item at Joja without getting caught (Shane has the lead with the pizza he gave farmer)

After Shane stops drinking, Sam is adamant on getting Shane to like joja-cola with him (he's not winning, unfortunately)

One time, Sam bet Shane that he could drink a 12-pack of Joja-cola during one break at work and threw up everywhere from the crazy amount of carbination it has (Even though Shane cried actual tears from laughter, Sam still owed him a pizza because Morris made Shane clean it 😭)

Shane will leave Sam maple bars in his work locker when Sam is having a hard time with his family and denies that it was him (Sam knows) His excuse when caught is that he and Jaz prefer the other donuts in the pack

Shane SUCKS at comforting others, but Sam appreciates the awkward conversation because it just means his buddy is trying to be a good friend.

They both run a secret page that basically makes fun of Morris by posting bad photos or just making a meme out of him
