DAY 16 OF FLUFFTOBER: Singing one another to sleep

Ship: Kora x Martha

After turning and turning around in her bed, Kora had to resign herself. Sleep would not come. Especially not with the headache and the stomach ache she have had for a few days now. But time was a rare thing these days. Kora had made sure every patient she have had in the few last days were treated first. Which meant forgetting herself and pushing through her own issues.

In her tired self, she was thinking. Trying to figure out what she could have caught. If it was the same thing that the other villagers had caught a few days ago. Wondering what potion could work on her state.

As she was thinking, a hand wrapped around one of her arm, pulling her back to her girlfriend’s arm. Martha’s eyes opened, tired but worried.

Kora sighed, facing her girlfriend with a guilty smile.

« … Sorry. Didn’t mean to wake you up. » She whispered softly and Martha shook her head.

« Don’t apologize. » She said softly before placing her hand on her face. Kora flinched at the contact and Martha grew more worried.

« What’s wrong? » She questioned and Kora shook her head.

« I can’t sleep. Headache and stomach ache. » Kora explained and Martha placed her hand on her forehead.

« You’re not burning up, so it’s not a fever. Could you have caught something? »

« Maybe… » She replied but as Martha kept on looking at her, worried, she closed her eyes with a sigh, continuing.

« But I think… the last couple weeks have been a lot as well. Lots of patients, stress, not much sleep… This might not have help too. » She admitted and Martha’s grip on her arm tighten a bit.

« It’s okay to take a break, you know? Matteo is still there if needed. You’re the first one to ask us to take care of ourselves. Why wouldn’t you feel the same about yourself too? » Martha scolded her lightly as she put her other hand in her girlfriend’s hair, playing with them as a way to soothe her partner. Which did helped as Kora felt herself relax a bit.

Kora knew Martha was right. It was no use being there if she was not in a state to do her job.

« … You’re right. » She agreed and Martha smiled softly.

« We’ll go see Matteo in the morning. See if he has something to help. » She decided.

Kora huffed at that, pouting.

« I could just make myself something. » She replied but Martha shook her head in refusal.

« Nonsense. The point is you taking a break. Not pushing yourself even more. » She reasoned and Kora knew she was, once again, right.

So she let her win this time.

« … Okay. Let’s do that. » She let herself be convinced.

Martha then got up and walked to the bathroom before coming back with water and another potion.

« Matteo gave me this as a temporary pain relief. It should help for a few hours, just enough to get some sleep until morning. » She offered Kora and she took both, thanking her partner.

As it slowly does its effects, Kora closed her eyes. Martha had put her hand in her hair again, singing a lullaby to help her girlfriend to go to sleep. A song her mother sang to her when she was young, she told her.

As Kora finally fell asleep, Martha smiled, kissing her forehead. She then closed her eyes, all cuddled up to her lover.

« Goodnigh, my dear. »

The Hunter's Attic | Character Introduction | Kora

"Is this real silver?" Henry asked, holding up the necklace. "It's heavy."

Kora's face seemed incredulous, "You think she could've afforded real silver?"

"She could afford this house," Henry said. "And a maid."

"I'm a volunteer," Kora lips made a thin line. "Besides, she only ever paid me for gardening."

Kora Todd was a friend and part time caretaker to Henry's aunt. Probably one of the few friends she ever had. That, and she knows all about the attic. Kora dismisses Henry's findings, claiming that it's "part hobby, part delusion," but Henry is sure Kora knows more about it than she lets on. Even nervous to talk about this stuff. Henry is certain that Kora knows what her aunt was into and what got her killed. She's determined to find out, if not just to find answers, then to spite them. Besides! What could Kora be so afraid of?

Again, I’ll answer for Cir and Kora (who no one has met yet, but I just wanna do it)

6:Does your OC have any supernatural powers?

Cir: Well, she’s a Jedi, so she can harness the power of the Force, though she’s not very good at using Force-based powers like “telekinetic throw” and things.  She prefers hitting things when she fights because only then can she take responsibility for the fight, in her mind.

Kora: No, but she’s a really good fighter.  She’s pretty agile because of her former martial arts training and relatively fit due to her job in shipping cargo, but as for the mystical thing, she doesn’t believe in that stuff.

23:Whats your OCs biggest secret?

Cir: She still has nightmares about the explosion that took her leg.  She tells Doc all the time that since they got together she doesn’t, but it haunts her almost every night.  It starts off with a flash and she can’t breathe.  She’ll wake up briefly to make sure Doc hasn’t noticed, and she’ll sometimes leave to meditate instead of sleep.  She hasn’t had a good night’s sleep in over a year.

Kora: She once designed a whole new concept for a starship, but got so fed up with not knowing how to store the hyperdrive in a logical spot, she tore it up and burned it.  It haunts her to this day.  Where the hell should that damn thing go???

Hoodies and old tees, jeans, combat boots or converse-style shoes (with the laces all loose so she can just slip them on).  He hair is either draped over one shoulder or in a side-braid.

pain: What's the worst pain your OC has ever felt? Do they have a high pain tolerance? (gonna answer this one with Kora!)

"Physically? Probably when I got stabbed through the chest by a gigantic, corrupted spike. Not the greatest, and I should have died from that, if not for my... for my wife. Emotionally? Ah! Maybe when I killed my brother. Didn't mean to, but then again, I didn't mean to hurt 'Liande by erasing all of her memories. And... well, I guess I caused her to die, too, since she gave up most of her remaining life force to save me. Fuck. Yeah, Hard to pick what's the worst pain, ah..."

How she probably have to constantly watches out from saying "I wish", because the last times she did it, she accidentally killed off both an entire village and her twin brother, but also was forced to erase herself from Brocéliande s life

How she is too scared at first to let Brocéliande knows what she means when she says she has nothing to wish for

And then not having to explain it once Brocéliande s memories are given back to her and she has so much guilt over being forced to help take those memories away in the first time, the unspoken words of the fact she *wished* she'd been able to give them back to her

And then how she probably almost tried to wish for Liande to live longer at the end, only for Liande to stop her out of love, because they both know it would only bring more pain and Brocéliande sacrificed herself willingly so that she could live, and others too.

How she probably keep a journal every time she wakes up from a nightmare in the months that follows Broce s departure to the afterlife with lines of wishes scrambled frantically on paper, because she cannot says the words aloud no matter how much she wants to cry it out

🌲- "I don't really want to connect with people. What's the point? If you're somewhat cool, we'll hit it up I suppose. If not, get off my face."

"...or that'd what I'd like to say. But if Liande hears me say that, she'll laugh and... ah, guess it's ok if she does... 'nyway, I guess I don't really care for people or about connections, but I do have a handful of friends I suppose. And my wife. She makes it really hard to not learn to care and connect a bit more to others though, sometimes. She's better at it than I am. I feel more at ease around her and the brats. It feels... easier to just be. Guess even I can be caught smiling in those cases, heh..."

💫- [ I really like that Kora does her best to appear hard and uncaring, and in many aspects she can be, but she does have a softer side that's pretty easy to see, no matter what she say. I also like the fact that she actually do love dancing and singing and playing music with others- again, she is pretty easy to mellow down as long as it's the handful of people she care about and trust]

🌸- I love my wife, of course. You would too, if you met Liande. I also love her cooking. Good thing too, considering it's part of her job. I love the stupid brats we look after, sometimes. Gotta keep them safe. I enjoy festivals. Not the stupid poshy kind with their stiff back and lack of fun- the proper kind. Loud, always shifting, full of life. I like to become stronger, too. Prove I'm useful for something...I just love being alive, for however long I still have left.

Let's go with Kora!

I've. Already said a lot about her I think since she's one of the main character in Heartbearer, the original story I keep thinking about for the past 9 years and rarely do anything with outside of daydreaming, but here we go!

Kora is a trans woman, and is relatively short (163cm tall / 5'4ft tall). She is quite strong, especially arm wise.

Kora used to have a twin brother. Their parents were... definitely not great. When they were still children, Kora got trick by a wish demon, and after another fight with her parents, made her wish; only to bring a lot of death around her. Terrified, she tried to run away with her brother, but the energy brought the attention of Decaying Demons, and her brother was devoured by their corruption. Kora almost got corrupted in turn, but was saved at the last second by Morgano.

The man managed to stops the corruption from reaching her heart, and Kora barely made it out alive, though she is aware the corruption will remain and her life will be shorter.

Morgano made her swear to never uses the wish demon' power again, and reluctantly took her in as his apprentice, wanting to keep an eye on the corruption and knowing someone like Kora could be used wrongly in the ennemy's hands.

From that point, Kora met Brocéliande, a sweet little girl living with Morgano's friend, Gwenaëlle. Kora was very awkward and the more they met, the more she developed a tiny little childhood crush on Broce. Unfortunately, everytime she met Brocéliande, it felt like the girl didn't remember what they talked about.

When they were teenagers however, Morgano had Kora breaks her promise to never use the wish ability again, ordering her to erase all of Brocéliande's memories concerning Kora and the encounters they had along other things.

It broke Kora's heart to do so, as Brocéliande and her had properly started to court by then and Brocéliande was the kindest person in her eyes. Still, she obeyed, and stopped meeting with Brocéliande, doing her duty from afar to protect her.

However, Kora got recently wounded during a fight and barely managed to drag her ass to Little Harvestport in the middle of the night where she knew Morgano to reside. She lost consciousness as the door opened.

To her shock, the first person she saw after waking up was Brocéliande- who treated her like a complete stranger, unaware of their past.

Morgano's last order to Kora was to protect Brocéliande with her life, and Kora has been doing just so since. She didn't tell Broce the truth until Brocéliande's memories were given back to her by her goddess, and explained to her that part of it was because the wish's side effect was that she was unable to do so, and partly because she had swore to Morgano not to do it, seeing herself as nothing but an obedient servant.

Brocéliande had already started to fall for Kora by that point and after the shock of it all having passed, the two of them officially started dating again and quickly married.

Kora wanted to enjoy all the time she had left with Brocéliande as she thought she'd die before Liande, and Brocéliande wanted to enjoy all the time she had left with Kora as she knew she was bound to leave this world once the fight over, successful or not.
