she used to have really toxic patterns. Narcissists, abusers, people forcing her to conform to their standards, never being at the top of their priority list

Well, before she'd just back down and apologize and wrongfully accept blame. Now she speaks her mind and stands her ground and calls them out on their shit. But not before telling them eat a bag of dicks first.

All the time with Mark. She had to be demure and quiet. submissive in every aspect. A stay at home wife and homemaker at a time when she wasn't ready to give up a career to be that way.

She doesn't deal well at all. she's very insecure about how she looks. Especially after so many kids. So the audacity of thirty bitches make her feel 'less than' and makes her worry that she's not enough or good enough

Thankfully, Esme and Tyler are on the same page with a lot of things in their lives and the life they share together. they're a team in every way possible. they haven't had the easiest road, but they both loved each other and wanted one another enough to put in the work. And they work on it all the time and have learned how to prioritize their marriage and their various roles in each other's lives.

She used to make fun of people who believed in soulmates. Until she met hers.

She used to have to abandon personal goals. Now she has a man that nurtures those goals and helps her achieve them

When it comes to men, it's a lot of work to get her to trust you. She's been betrayed and let down so many times. So it's about being consistent and not only talking the talk, but walking the walk

As soon as she realized she felt safe and protected that was it. but she does often joke that her vagina knew it before her brain did lol "If he doesn't give your vagina a heartbeat, he's not the one, sis."

Tyler is so stubborn. and he tracks sand through the house and doesn't throw his dirty laundry in the hamper lol

Her first love was in high school and was a girl. It's what she thought love should feel like and be like. it took her until she was almost thirty to experience real love, though.

If we're talking physical hurt, probably the second and last time her abusive ex husband put her in the ICU.

If we're talking emotional hurt, it's definitely when she lost a baby in the seventh month of pregnant. During surgery. Her husband had to make the decision to either save her or the baby, and he picked her.

Oh, does she ever. Her mother is pure evil. She never wanted Esme; it was a later in life pregnancy and there was five boys already and Esme was seen as a mistake. And was always reminded that she was. Her mother also supported and enabled Mark's (Esme's ex husband) abuse or her and views Tyler (of all people) as a POS. Forever insisting he's a drug addict and alcoholic and that he abuses, bullies, and controls her.

Over the years, she's realized that family isn't about blood. It's about who loves and accepts you and has your back even at the most ugly of times. Even when you're not an easy person to love. She has a lot of great people now in her life. A husband and kids, friends like Nik and Yaz, Koen, her step sister Riley, Clover and Andy. And let's not forget John Wick and Alcott :)

Esme is always willing and eager to bring aboard the outsiders that haven't known and acceptance and love.

The family she was birthed into is just pure shit and treats her horribly

She has some great memories of camping, fishing, hiking and such with her dad. And remembers that she could always count on him to show up for school events. She could always look out into the audience and he'd be there

I think her relationship with her dad encouraged her to be compassionate, patient, and understanding

She was always very studious and put her all into her studies, even as a child. And followed that right through to university

As a kid, she was always outside. She loved to bike ride, climb trees, fish, camp, hike. And she loved to journal :)

Esme is fluent in a handful of languages and it's enabled her to travel and learn about different cultures and peoples

I think she would describe them as stressful and overwhelming, but the fruits of the labour more than worth it

Her favourite subjects would have been English (both creative writing and literature), anything to do with learning a different language, drama, history.

Esme is a researcher. Her quest for knowledge is never ending. When Tyler was diagnosed was CPTSD and Bipolar 2, she poured herself into learning everything she could about the disorders, and reached out to other wives (and husbands) who had spouses with military induced PTSD.

When she was younger, she wanted to be a teacher or a nurse (pediatrics) but ended up going to the University of Phoenix and earning a degree in Psychology. She joined the USMC shortly afterwards and became an intel specialist.

She enjoys baking, crocheting, knitting, gardening, and more phyicial activities like camping and fishing, hiking and rock climbing, paddle boarding and swimming. While not much of a gym rat, she does a HIIT workout four times a week and regularly practices yoga.

She is obsessed with Target. It is her favourite place to shop and she goes there at least three times a week, even if she doesn't need anything. Sometimes it's just to wander around and drink a caramel macchiato from Starbucks. She also talks Tyler into going with her. She always wants him to tag along so she can be with her 'person'

She owns fifteen pairs of Crocs, ten pairs of Uggs, and almost two dozen pairs of yoga pants

She has several tattoos (including a large peacock that begins on her back, snakes around her left rib cage, and has the head of the bird just below the middle of her breasts. When she met Tyler, she had a handful of piercings: the tongue, below the middle of her bottom lip, left nostril, and three holes in each ear and two cartilage piercings in the top of the right ear

Trivia Tuesday!

For the awesome Creators Club @bardic-tales

I write for the Extraction fandom, and my OC Esme (Drummond/Rake) had a list of five face claims that I kept switching back and forth between lol. Rachel Bilson was the OG Esme; I wanted someone that could fluctuate between fresh faced girl next door to stunning and sexy. Someone petite in stature that looked innocent and sweet, but was in fact assertive and strong. I especially wanted her to be the opposite to Chris Hemsworth's/Tyler's stature. He's six three and just a big boy lol. After much going back and forth, I ended up settling with Rachel (my long time girl crush) and Esme was 'born' and evolved from there :)

I also started writing the fic before the movie was released. Not in depth, but things scribbled down here in there. At that time, all that was released was Chris' character's name and what he'd look like in the film :)

FOUR AND A HALF YEARS LATER

The Continental Hotel, New York City

Esme watches her daughter as she sleeps; the child’s dirty blond messy and wild, her long and lanky frame clad in a pair of Incredible Hulk pyjamas pants and a My Little Pony top. The clothes she’s been wearing when they’d been forced to flee into the dead of night; leaving behind all of their belongings save for whatever could be stashed in a single duffle bag and the little one’s favourite doll and stuffed animal. Even in slumber, Millie’s fear still lingers; a thumb tucked securely and comfortingly in her mouth and her nose still stuffed from the amount of crying she’d done. She’d been hysterical; terrified by the sounds of gunshots and the cries of injured and dying men and the sight of the corpses that lay strewn in the darkened hallways. Her world suddenly turned upside down; forced to abandon all her possessions aside from Posie and Franklin and the patchwork quilt from atop her bed.

The four-year-old had settled easily upon arrival at the hotel; comforted by Charon’s quiet voice and gentle demeanour and the cuddles he’d given her as he carried her up to their suite. She’s been there before and knows it’s a safe place; no harm can come to her when she’s behind their walls. She’s surrounded by people that love and protect her; Auntie Nik and Uncle John and Abuella; the woman who’d been posing as Millie’s nanny but had secretly been placed within the home to keep a watchful eye on both mother and child. And she has her momma of course; sticking tight to Esme’s side and needing more reassurance and comfort and physical contact than usual. She’d manage to crack a smile and offer up a giggle when ‘grandpa Winston’ arrived; bringing with him Millie’s favourite storybook a handful of chocolate chip cookies and a glass of warm milk he’d ‘smuggled’ from the kitchen. And when sleep finally began to claim her once more, she had become uncharacteristically whiney and demanding; wanting comfort from no one but her mother and insisting that Esme cuddle with her. Even an hour and half later she still doesn’t have the heart to move the little one; her fingertips repeatedly drawing slow, methodical patterns on Millie’s back as she remains snuggled tightly into her side.

She is everything that Esme could have ever wanted. Beautiful and intelligent, intuitive and curious, compassionate and gentle, yet possessing a fieriness and tenacity that simmers just under the surface. Full of both giggles and sass; endlessly optimistic and finding joy in even the smallest of things, yet not afraid to stick for herself or others. She had spent years dreaming about being a mother; what her baby would look like, how their voice would sound, what their likes and dislikes would be, and all the things they could experience and enjoy together.

I’m going to tell her if she doesn’t shut her mouth, I’m going to mess her face right up!”

“I don’t know if you should…”

“And how stupid is her name? Emma-Leigh…”  (dramatic roll of the eyes) “Momma says it’s the stupidest damn thing she’s ever heard.  And that the spelling is even more stupid. I mean, just spell it normal! Her name is EMILY. Spell it that way. Sheesh.
