“Let me help you”
I was thinking Kakashi…surprise surprise...but really anyone you’re comfortable writing for/with…just love me some hurt/comfort (sorry if this is too vague!) hope your day is less annoying now :)
Kakashi shouldn't be here. What was he thinking?
It's bad enough he's already gotten blood on the window and now on the bathroom door.
Akami is not going to be pleased.
His fingers tremble as he tries to open the meager first aid kit she keeps under the sink. He's perched on the side of the bathtub, legs too shaky to stand.
As he sheds his flak vest, letting it fall back into the tub behind him, Kakashi wonders where Akami is. He expected her to be home when he tumbled through her window. The eerie emptiness of the house makes him uneasy so late in the evening.
Is he really here? Or has he hallucinated his return? Maybe he's still lying in that field, rain and blood pooling beneath his body--indistinguishable from one another as they mix in the mud.
Kakashi's breath heaves as he tries to apply disinfectent to the wound. He could try to heal it with medical ninjutsu, but his fingers are too shaky. And anyway, he's never been a very good medic. With his vision swimming, now, he might make the wound worse if he tried.
He yelps a little when he finally gets a good amount of the stuff on his wound. Fuck, that hurts.
He doesn't like to admit the wave of relief he feels when he hears the front door open and close, feels Akami's chakra step inside the house. He pushes the door open with his foot so she won't think someone's trying to hide from her.
Her footsteps are soft against the floor, but he can sense they're heavier than usual. Kakashi looks up when she stops in the doorway and it becomes clear why--Sasuke is asleep in her arms, head drooped against one of her shoulders.
Oh. He shouldn't have come here.
Akami glares down at him, the dark circles beneath her eyes standing starkly out against the pallor of her skin. She says nothing, just sucks her teeth and continues on to Sasuke's bedroom. Kakashi can just hear the sounds of his sheets shifting as she tucks him into bed.
He should leave. Clearly, Akami is not interested in entertaining him this evening.
When she returns to the bathroom, she closes the door behind her quietly and kneels down before him without a word. Normally, he'd love this--seeing her on her knees does things to him he isn't necessarily proud of--but she looks so exhausted now all he feels is guilt.
"Sorry," he says, his breath pushing a few strands of hair away from her face.
Her gilded eyes flick up to meet his briefly and she sighs. "It's fine."
It isn't. "I'll go."
She rolls her eyes. "Don't be stupid, you're already here. There's blood everywhere to prove it."
Kakashi winces, bites his tongue before he says sorry again, knowing she'll just be irritated if he does.
"Is Sasuke okay?" he asks instead.
Akami heaves a sigh, lets her forehead drop to Kakashi's knee. "He had a fever last night and it wouldn't go down. We've been at the Hospital all day."
Her fingers tremble almost as badly as his when she takes the disinfectant from him. He resists, not wanting to burden her any further than he already has. "Akami, it's okay, I've got it."
"Just let me help you," she snaps, glaring at him again, her pupils filed to the finest slits. "That's why you're here, right? For my help?" he nods mutely, recognizing that her irate energy is not entirely a product of his bloody appearance in her bathroom, but the culmination of all the stress Sasuke's condition surely caused her over the past twenty-four hours. "So let me help you," she repeats quietly.
"Okay," he says, relinquishing the bottle and the blood-soaked rag he'd used to apply it.
Akami cleans his wound without another word, wiping it clean and applying an antiobiotic ointment before wrapping a gauze bandage over it with much more finesse than he could have managed on his own.
"You should go to the Hospital tomorrow to have it better tended to," she says.
Normally, Kakashi would argue or lie, but he doesn't have the heart to do that to her now, so instead he threads his fingers into her hair and pulls her close so he can kiss her forehead through his mask.
"Okay," he promises, feeling her relax in his grip, her own hands coming to rest on his thighs, anchor herself. "I'm sorry about Sasuke," he says, "That must have been terrifying." She nods mutely, biting her lower lip in an uncharacteristic bid to keep her emotions from slipping out. "I'm glad he's feeling better."
Her voice is thready and thin when she answers, "Me, too."
There's still blood to clean off the window. And the doorway and the tub, but they ignore it, opting instead to make their way to Akami's bedroom where Kakashi lies on his good side and pulls her close. There will be blood to clean off the sheets in the morning, too, but that's a problem for then. All that matters now is that their breathing synchronizes, their nerves stop rapid-firing and the fight-or-flight they've both felt for different reasons over the previous hours dissipates.
Because there can be no danger while they hold one another. Akami is Kakashi's safe harbor. He thinks he might be hers, too. Suddenly, he's glad he stumbled through her window bloody and trembling and dazed. Not because she helped clean his wound, but so he can be here for her when she needs him.
There's nowhere else he'd rather be.

Love me Mercilessly 🐶Kakashi x Akami 🐍 Chapter 33: Take me to your River word Count: 11k tw: thinly veiled attempts at humor, icky sticky fluff, implied sexual content, brief mention of violence, mentions of suicide, mentions canonical character death previous chapters: Ao3 or under my tag ‘Love me Mercilessly’
In the time since Akami’s pants were on backwards and she told Kakashi she loved him and he said it right back they had spent almost 2 weeks apart. Immediately after they had told one another what was so blatantly obvious Kakashi helped Akami fix her backwards pants by taking them off completely and making her feel so full of love that it was like he had turned her inside out.
They didn’t talk about it much more, mainly because they had left no time for talking, they had a few hours but none of that time was talking time, it was him inside her, whispering and moaning and cursing I love you time.
Akami didn’t need him to say anything else it made since now why he was acting the way he was. She had been so blinded by her own twisted up feelings that she couldn’t take the time to wait for him to squeeze his out.
Akami left his apartment that day, showered, ate and chugged close to a gallon of water during dinner (when she ate yet again) she had to rehydrate. She knew it was because she wasn’t sleeping well prior, and that having sex for close to three hours drained you of fluids in more ways than one—it was like having to replenish close to a year’s worth of electrolytes and all the serotonin and dopamine came rushing back in when she let all that stupid stress go. Stress that shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
She was exhausted from it all and luckily Sasuke assumed it was due to work, she didn’t correct him and took advantage of his affections. Like him making her a very watery mug of tea and being extra mushy while she read to him before bed —even though that usually involved him practically sitting on top of her. She took all she could get, she had been so happy. Ignorance was in fact not bliss; it was the complete and total opposite of bliss. This was bliss. Having Sasuke curled comfortably into her side and knowing that at the end of two weeks Kakashi was coming back…back home to her.
Akami kissed the top of Sasuke’s head and rested her chin over it after she shut the book—it was a new one, still revolving around a bird but this one had a plot with a couple of cute illustrations–after ‘ Birds of Prey’ he admitted he wanted something a little more exciting. So she took him to the library and let him take his pick. She even got him his own library card, he chose the design but was not pleased to have his photo taken. Thankfully the brightly colored stars and planets managed to outweigh the harsh mugshot of a photo.
Akami shut her eyes and ran her fingers across Sasukes’ forehead. She felt so much better about everything, it was like all that love she held onto had been sitting in her chest ready to break bone. But now it was pried out like an abscessed tooth. She was sure she wanted to be with Kakashi, whatever that meant and whatever that entailed. When he told her he loved her with his dopey smile and that searing hopeful look in his eye she knew he did too. All she had now was one teeny tiny pint sized problem… telling Sasuke.
She hadn’t thought much of it, but now that Kakashi was on his way back home and Sasuke was snuggled up in her arms–potentially against his will–like a grumbly reminder, she realized she had no idea how to tell him.
He was the main reason Akami wanted to keep everything a secret in the first place, he had enough crazy shit going on in his life. Sasuke wasn’t over what happened to him and he probably never would be. It wasn’t fair to ask him to share her with anyone. And it wasn’t fair to try the whole committed thing and not give Kakashi all she had. She was worried that she couldn’t have it both ways and she really didn’t want to give up either of them, she wanted to have it all. But Kakashi said he was more than happy with her half of everything and he let her in again.
“You’re squishing me,” Sasuke mumbled into her shoulder.
Akami gave him one last squeeze before releasing him from her death grip to tuck him into bed. She kneeled on the floor beside him and ran her thumb over his chubby cheek, “I love you so so much,” she said, “no matter what.”
“I know…I-I love you too,” he said in a small voice.
Akami kissed his head and Tobu’s too, and shut the door behind her.
Kakashi came over that night, he stopped at him place only to shower and change. He hadn't eaten since Team Ro departed The Land of That earlier in the day, but the only thing on his mind was Akami. They stayed awake, limbs intertwined and talked all night.
“Now what?” Kakashi whispered,
“I don’t know,” she whispered back. “We’ll think of something”
He snorted and rolled onto his back, he sighed and draped a hand over his stomach,  “Kam, I don’t know how to do this.” he said, “But I’m gonna try to give you half too.”
“I know,” she turned to look at the ceiling, and her hand found his. She said what she knew they both had been thinking, “I think we start by telling Sasuke.”
Kakashi made a strange noise and she turned to look at him, “I wanna be with you–” she started
“I do- I do too!'' he said, cutting her off, “I do too but there’s something I want to talk to him about first…and he already doesn’t like me so, I don’t know if, if maybe he won’t…”
“It’ll be okay” Akami said as if she sucked up all his confidence,
“How do you know?”
“I don't, I just want it to,” she said, "and despite how he acts, Sasuke does like you.”
Kakashi sighed, she rolled to her side draping her leg over his hips. She nestled her chin on his shoulder and cupped his cheek with her hand so he could face her.
“Hey,” she said, “I love you”
“Now you're just saying it to say it” he grinned.
“I am," She smiled her big serpentine smile, "what are you going to do about it?”
Kakashi pressed his forehead to hers and whispered, “Say it back.”

parental troubles.
Merry Christmas @akamikazae!!! <3 I hope you enjoy your day and have a few times off <3 I know we don't talk as much as I would like, but I very much like you a lot and I'm glad you joined the anxiety squad so we can talk more! I attempted to write your lady and I hope you forgive me if its not exactly what you have in mind. I wanted to write her with Ko first but then I decided on this situation in my AU! Hope that is ok!! <3
--
ikigai au, sharingan cult arc. uchiha kids are being attached so their parents come to the rescue so their sharingan can be stolen
sasuke and sakura had twins before sarada. both twins are @wrdn-tabris oc's - ren and takeshi (3)
itachi is alive, married to @uchiharomance's haruka and they have two kids (shisui (4) and mikoto (2))
there is also one mention of my sayuri and her son obito (5)
--
She didn’t have to ring twice before the door was ripped open. Sasuke’s hair was dishevelled as if he had run his hand through it one too many times and both his eyes were visible. Probably he hadn’t looked into the mirror for hours. He looked positively stressed out, which was such a strange view for him, especially in recent years.
“Upstairs,” he said and turned around without even saying hello and she just about found the time to discard her shoes and follow him before he disappeared around the corner to the stairs leading to the second floor. It had been about a year at this point since she’d last seen him, but tonight she’d suddenly gotten a call from his house and an urgent “Please come over”, so of course she had hurried there without a second thought.
Sasuke turned into one of the boy’s rooms. When Akami also entered, she could see what the problem was: Ren was turning on his bed, face red and sweating and eyes pressed close as if he was in restless sleep.
“We thought he was okay, but he suddenly started running a fever,” Sasuke said and sounded a little desperate. “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do to help him.”
She felt flattered that he had thought of calling her first and foremost, but there was also a part of her that was amused at witnessing his first struggle as a parent. “Where are the others? Sakura-chan and Takeshi?”
“Hospital,” Sasuke said and, refusing to elaborate, continued: “Can you ease this for him?”
Akami crossed her arms: “No.”
“Why not?” The look of betrayal in his eyes almost made her laugh out loud.
“Your son needs his father to take care of him,” she said matter of factly. “You can do it, every parent can and if you don’t know how, you will learn it now.”
It was true that his mission often took him away from his family and that Sakura, being a world class doctor, would probably be more responsible for exactly these situations, but Sasuke needed to be able to handle it too. They had two kids after all.
“Get a towel.” Akami gestured to the door. “Cold water in a bowl, look for fever medicine wherever your medicine cabinet is, come back.” She snapped her finger - he walked out instantly
She wondered for a second if Sasuke even knew where towels and such were in his own house, given how seldomly he checked in, but when she heard cupboards open and bowls being moved she felt at ease. She’d long since felt that he was probably back in Konoha more often than he was willing to tell the Hokage, Itachi or even her.
Ren groaned and she put her hand on his forehead. He was quite heated up, but not life threatening if he would get some medicine and sleep. She wondered what had happened, especially with Sakura in the hospital with Takeshi too. There had been some commotion in the village during the day. She wondered if that was related and hoped it wasn’t.
Sasuke came spriting back, water spilling over the edges of his bowl. He sat down in front of his son and then looked up at Akami. “You are smart, you figure out what to do next”, she said and leaned against the cupboard behind her.
“Medicine,” Sasuke murmured and put the bowl down. She watched him open the little bottle and fill a bit of it on a spoon he had brought. His hand was slightly shaking when he brought it up to Ren’s mouth and forced the boy to drink it.
Ever since she’d known him he had been such a serious person, often frowning, always questioning. As an adult he had grown even more distant, wore mostly black and covered half his face so that even less of him could be seen, but here he was, his full worry and fear of being a bad parent on display. In the end his good heart always won
Ren took the medicine and Sasuke dowsed the towel in the water he had brought and put it on his forehead. The little boy whined a little at the sudden cold, but then eased back into his pillows. Soon he’d be asleep from the medicine and then his little body could recover.
Sasuke got back on his feet and wiped his own sweat off his head. “This is more stressful than getting away from a group of rampant cultists,” he murmured.
“So will you tell me what happened to Takeshi?” Akami put her head to the side. “Both kids caught the cold?”
“They were attacked in the morning,” Sasuke grinded his teeth together. “Coordinated attack on all the people related to the Uchiha, but they targeted the children first. Not only them, Itachi's and Kakashi’s son Obito. I was lucky to be in the area and having a gut feeling that something was up. I found the boys surrounded in the forest, but Takeshi was already seriously injured…”
Akami sucked in a breath of air and clenched her fist.
“..I took him to the hospital and Sakura took over. We thought Ren was alright, if shaken up, but now he suddenly got a fever…” He looked down at the child.
Who would do such a thing? Attack a bunch of 3 year olds to get to their parents? “What did you do with the attackers?”
“Cut their heads off,” Sasuke said coldly.
She smiled. “Good boy.” If he hadn’t done it, she surely would have.
“What about the other kids?” she asked, while mentally already replanning her morning so she could drop by the hospital and bring Takeshi some get-well-soon sweets.
“Itachi got to the guy before he could even touch Shisui,” Sasuke said and sounded a little proud. “Guess they thought they could fool a blind guy, but Itachi is Itachi.” Indeed, Akami thought, Itachi might have stopped being an active shinobi but he had always been outstandingly talented. “Haruka was sleeping with Mikoto in the inner house so they didn’t even notice what was going on.” Mikoto was so tiny, Akami didn’t even want to imagine what would have happened if they’d gotten to her.
“Obito was alone,” Sasuke sighed. “But Naruto heard him yell and came to his rescue. He brought the boy to Kakashi where we all found ourselves eventually.”
So that was what all the commotion had been about. Akami had seen soldiers running back and forth, but in the nature of Konoha being a ninja village this hadn’t seemed that extraordinary. “So what was it?”
“Someone wanted something from an Uchiha. Maybe revenge? They got access to the village without being spotted by the security system. Looks like we have a traitor around.” He let out a deep breath. “Everything seems to be adjusted for now. The biggest concern right now is that Kakashi’s wife is out somewhere on a solo mission.”
That explained why she had seen Saya leave the village in full ANBU updo. It was so rare for her to run missions these days.
Ren turned over and groaned a little. Sasuke instantly reacted and pulled the towel from his forehead to douse it in cold water again. Akami remembered suddenly how it had been when Sasuke had been first sick under her care. You never wanted to see your own kids suffer like that.
“They will be fine,” she said. “Both of them are strong and have strong parents.”
He didn’t turn to her. “I wonder if I’m ever going to be cut out for this.”
“You already are. You called me, because you know you needed help. If you weren’t cut out for this, you would have just left him there.” Akami slowly tried to get his hair back in order as if he was still 10 and too late for school. “You will never stop learning with these things, but you’re not doing too bad.”
“Maybe I’ll stay a little,” Sasuke said.
“That would be good, you need to keep an eye on him tonight.” She looked at the sleeping boy.
Sasuke got back up. “No, I mean here. Maybe I’ll stay here to make sure everything is fine. Put my mission on hold.” He clenched his fist. “Make sure they don’t come back.”
“Call me immediately if they do,” Akami poked into his chest. “So I can partake in the beheading.” He snickered a little. “Also, just call me in the morning, tell me how he is, how Takeshi is.”
He smiled and oddly reminded her of the person he was before he left the village all those years ago. “I will. Thanks for everything.”

This is an exchange fic for @akamikazae for the Beautiful server we’re in together 🥰🥰🥰 I saw an opportunity to have some Kakashi and Sasuke bonding (in their own special way) and jumped at it, but of course I couldn’t miss a chance to include a beautiful OC for Kakashi to love. I hope I did them justice 💜💜💜
Thank you to @lemony-snickers for being a beta reader for this fic 💜💜💜
Pairing: Hatake Kakashi/OFC
Words: 2944
Two hours and twenty-three minutes.
That was how long Kakashi had to pick up groceries, get to Akami’s place, make dinner, and set everything up before she was due to return home. He’d taken every precaution to ensure he wasn’t a second late with his preparations, even forgoing a visit to Rin and Obito so that he could ensure he wasn’t late.
Today was not a day he could be late, but as always Kakashi was faced with the fact that the world hated him and wanted him to fail in everything he did.
Even making a nice dinner for his girlfriend, without hindrance, seemed too much to ask judging by the three-block lineup that led to the grocery store.
“Come on,” leaning a little to his left, he peered down the seemingly endless lineup. “Since when do people line up for the grocery store?”
A new restaurant he could understand, or a brand new spa. There were always lineups into the spas, even the older ones that had been around since the village was founded.
A grocery store, though. There was nothing he could think of that would explain people lining up and waiting for three blocks just to get into a grocery store.
“It’s valentine's day,” He’d sensed Sasuke’s presence nearby, but he hadn’t thought the kid would approach him so it was a little surprising to hear his voice directly beside him. A surprise that must have been evident in his expression, judging by the smug laugh Sasuke gave him. “For a Jonin you’re bad at noticing your surroundings.”
He could argue that fact, but there was no point. Sasuke didn’t know half of the things he did, and if the kid wanted to feel like he’d accomplished something by sneaking up on a Jonin, Kakashi would let him. There was no harm in letting the kid have a moment of triumph.
“Valentine's day?” He repeated, struck suddenly by a horrible realization. “You mean…”
Slapping a hand over his eyes, Sasuke groaned. “What does she see in you?”
A question Kakashi asked himself every day. There was no doubt in his mind that Akami was way out of his league, but every day she chose to be with him.
A small blessing the universe granted him after a lifetime of loss and one that could be snatched away from him at any moment just like everything else he loved had been.
“So,” peering down the line once more, he sifted through his options. Waiting was possible but judging by the time it had taken him to move two feet it would result in a very late dinner. Only one option could get him back to Akami’s in time to cook and set everything up, but he was going to need Sasuke’s help to make it work. “Any chance you’d help a guy out.”
“Doing what?” The kid scuffed.
“No one in this line is going to get mad at a twelve-year-old cutting in line,” if they did everyone else in the lineup would shame them for it. “So if I give you some Ryo you could head to the front of the line and slip in before everyone else.”
An odd sense of familiarity washed over him when Sasuke placed a hand against his hip and glared at him with an intensity that only a stubborn kid could radiate but Kakashi chose to ignore it just as he ignored many things in his life. “You want me to do your shopping for you?”
“It would help me get home quicker,” he explained, cringing at the slight desperation he heard in his voice. “You wouldn’t want me to be late with dinner, would you? How would Akami feel about coming home after a long day of work and having to wait for a nice home-cooked meal?”
Sasuke simply rolled his eyes. “Alright,” he extended a hand towards Kakashi and smirked when money was placed into it. “But only on one condition.”
Kakashi scolded himself for not seeing this. It only made sense that Sasuke would want something in return. When he was a kid he’d done the same thing to Minato-Sensei after being asked to pick up some flowers from the Yamanaka flower shop for Kushina.
“What is it?”
“Teach me a new jutsu.”
Kakashi stared at the kid, processing what he had just heard before narrowing his eyes into a glare. “Aren’t you still in the Acadamy?”
“I am,” Sasuke confirmed with a shrug of his shoulders. “But I’m already ahead of the rest of my class. There’s nothing Iruka-Sensei can teach me.”
That was a lie. While Iruka may have only been a chunin he still had a wealth of knowledge that he didn’t share with his classes. The jutsu was considered too advanced for the academy students and Iruka wasn’t a man who made a habit out of teaching his kids anything outside of the assigned curriculum.
Kakashi knew Sasuke’s plight though. To be a prodigy meant that Sasuke would always feel like he was being held back by the rest of the class. He was unable to advance until he finally graduated and took on the rank of genin.
“One jutsu,” he agreed, holding a single finger for emphasis. “What style?”
Sasuke’s eyes widened for a second, but he swiftly got his emotions under control and returned to his regular unimpressed expression. “I’ve only learned fire jutsu to date.”
“Then we should stick to fire jutsus,” Kakashi decided. It would just earn Sasuke more unnecessary praise if he were to teach him another style before he became a genin. “I can think of a few you might like.”
“One that’s not an Uchiha jutsu, preferably,” the kid insisted, holding out a hand toward Kakashi. Placing the small list of groceries he’d written for himself into Sasuke’s palm, he watched as the kid closed his fingers around it and swiftly as he turned his back to him. “Though, you wouldn’t know those anyways.”
Holding his tongue, Kakashi watched as Sasuke made his way toward the front of the line. It wouldn’t do him any good to correct the kid, and it wasn’t as though he knew about the Sharingan that Obito had gifted him or the fact that he’d learned some of the Uchiha’s fire-style techniques while working alongside Obito and Itachi.
That information wouldn’t do Sasuke any good anyways, so there was no point in providing him with it at this time. Instead, he’d take the time Sasuke was gone to think of just which jutsu he was going to teach the kid.
“One Akami won’t get mad at me over,” he grumbled to himself as he took a step out of line and allowed the person behind him to claim his spot. “But which one?”
There were more than a few he could choose from.
Mission accomplished.
Not even five minutes after he’d left Kakashi’s side, Sasuke returned with a bag in hand and a sour look on his face. “Never ask me to do that again,” he insisted, holding the bag out towards Kakashi. “The place was crowded.”
Unsurprising given the lineup Kakashi had found himself stuck in.
Peering into the bag, he smiled when he saw all of the things he’d asked Sasuke to retrieve plus an intriguing-looking bag of coffee with a snake smack in the center of the bag, A perfect gift for Akami. A little gift he was certain she’d love. After all, If there was one person in all of Konoha who understood Akami better than him, it was Sasuke.
“This is perfect,” not only did he have everything he needed, but he still had over two hours to get himself to Akami’s house and prepare everything. “Thank you.”
He tried his best to smile, a small sign of his appreciation for Sasuke’s help, but judging by the way the kid took a step back and cringed he was willing to guess it hadn’t turned out as warm as he was trying.
“That’s weird,” Sasuke grunted. “You’re weird.”
“Well, you’re stuck with weird,” closing the bag, he gripped it in his left hand and held it off to his side. “Now, would you like me to make enough for three tonight?”
Most days Sasuke would join them for dinner. It was something Kakashi had to get used to at first, but these days he almost felt like they were missing something on the rare night when Sasuke would stay out late training or hide away in his bedroom.
“No,” turning his back to Kakashi, the kid sighed. “I see you two being cuddly enough most days. It’ll be three times worse tonight.”
That wasn’t particularly true considering neither Kakashi nor Akami was the ‘cute cuddly’ type of couple, but he decided not to correct Sasuke this time. A night for just the two of them sounded nice.
“In that case, I’ll meet you after you finish class tomorrow if I don’t have a mission,” that last part he had little to no control over. If Lord Third wanted to send him away on a mission he’d simply have to accept it and chose another day to train with Sasuke. “I think I have the perfect Jutsu picked out for you.”
A chunin-level fire-style jutsu that he was certain Sasuke would have no problem learning. Anyone else would struggle with it, but Sasuke was a prodigy of his generation. There was little doubt in his mind that the kid would be able to learn it easily enough, and if he needed support and guidance Kakashi would be there.
He’d be a terrible teacher if he didn’t at least make sure he learned the jutsu properly.
“Tomorrow then,” Sasuke agreed. “Good luck tonight.”
With that, he was gone. Kakashi could still sense him easily enough, but anyone genin level or lower would think he’d disappeared into thin air. Another example of his skill.
“Tomorrow,” Kakashi spoke to himself, glancing down at the bag that hung from his hand. “For now, I have some food to cook.”
With two minutes left on the clock, Kakashi turned off Akami’s stove and set the pot off to the side to cool. The sweet smell of Mapo tofu filled the kitchen, and the onigiri he’d worked on for just over an hour molding into perfect little triangles sat in the center of the dinner table.
He’d even managed to set up the table so that Akami’s new bag of coffee was sitting in front of her seat waiting to be noticed.
All he had to do now was wait.
The sound of the door sliding open echoed through the air at that moment, alerting him to Akami’s arrival. One minute early, but he wasn’t about to complain. “Kakashi?” her voice called out to him. “Are you here?”
“I am,” he confirmed without hesitation, knowing all too well that any seasoned shinobi would reach for their Kunai if they didn’t hear a familiar voice right away. “How was your day?”
Shoes clattered to the floor and in just a few seconds Akami appeared in the doorway. An exhausted look in her eyes seemed to disappear as soon as she saw the meal waiting for her.
“What is this?” she propped herself up against the side jam and watched him with curious eyes. “You don’t usually cook.”
“I don’t usually have time to cook,” he defended himself. “But today is special. I wanted to surprise you.”
Perhaps he’d read too many of those cheesy romances his friends teased him about. The ones where the man would cook up a brilliant meal to show his lover just how much he cared, with all of their favorite foods and candlelight to add a little bit of romantic flare.
Maybe it was just because he was feeling lonely. The two of them hadn’t been able to spend a lot of time together in the last month because of back-to-back missions Lord Third had been sending him on and now that he had an opportunity to make up for that he was determined to do so.
“A surprise?” a smile tugged at the edges of her lips. “Is this just because? Or did you feel obligated to do something for Valentine's day?”
“A bit of both,” he admitted. “Actually, I’d forgotten all about Valentine's day until a certain overprotective Uchiha reminded me this afternoon.”
Akami rolled her eyes. “Did he call you names again?”
“Not this time. He’s just struggling to understand why you would want to date someone like me.”
“And let me guess,” straightening herself up, she slipped a hand behind her neck and pulled her long black hair forward so that it draped over her shoulder. “You’re wondering that too?”
She’d read him like a genin-level book. With no hesitation and no remorse she’d laid his own insecurities in front of him, and worst of all she did it with a smile. Not just any smile either.
That smile.
The one that shone in her eyes so bright that he was certain he’d be blinded by it and left him feeling weak in the knees.
“Stop that.”
“Stop what?” she asked with a mischievous smirk.
“You know what you’re doing,” stopping directly in front of him, she lifted a hand and gently placed it over his chest. “I made you dinner.”
“You did,” she agreed. “And it smells delicious.”
“So you should stop teasing me.” It was a hopeless cause. He knew it was a hopeless cause but he had to put his foot down or Akami would get bored. She enjoyed a challenge and there were few people in the village willing or capable of giving her that challenge. Partially because of her cunning and sharp personality, and partially because no one really knew how to deal with someone who’d been trained by Danzo as a root operative.
Kakashi knew, though. He’d known Tenzo since they were kids and while he had a vastly different personality from Akami their training was the same. They knew how to toy with people and how to read them.
There was almost nothing that could get past them. Even Kakashi, with all of his genius, was easy for them to read. They may not have been allowed to foster their own emotions but they’d learned well how to read and use the emotions of others against them.
“Hmmm, perhaps I should,” reaching out toward him, she gently laid her hand against his cheek. The warmth of her skin invited him to relax and unwind. “You didn’t need to make me dinner.”
“I wanted to.”
“I don’t celebrate Valentine's day.” she continued to argue, though her voice was too tender to hold any real weight in the words she said.
“Then it’s not Valentine's day,” he fired back, fully willing to play along with her. “Dinner is a treat because you deserve it. The sweets are a gift from me and Sasuke because you’ve worked hard and even the great Akami needs to spoil herself once in a while.”
Her hand dropped from his face and came down to settle over her mouth, just barely covering the smile that now stretched across her lips. “The great Akami?” she repeated, chuckling a little as the words reached her ears. “Were you bitten by one of those romance books of yours? You’re not usually this cheesy.”
“Perhaps,” he shrugged his shoulders and took a step back, waving a hand out towards the dinner table. “You’re not going to dump me because I’m a little cheesy, are you?”
Akami rolled her eyes. “I think I can forgive your cheesiness,” she fired back without hesitation. “As long as you keep making those delicious-smelling meals.”
“Is that all I’m good for?”
“No,” closing the distance between them once more, she laid a hand over his chest. “You’re good for a lot of things, Hatake Kakashi.”
A shiver ran down his spine. “Don’t do that.”
“Don’t do what?”
“Don’t say my full name,” he clarified. “Everyone gets something from their parents, even if they don’t like them, and you…well.”
The smile dropped off her face. “If you say it I’m walking out the door right now and you’re eating dinner alone.”
Kakashi wasn’t an idiot. He could tell that she was serious about her threat and he’d put too much effort into making the perfect dinner to risk her walking away angry. So, he swallowed his words and wrapped both arms around her waist instead.
“Mmmm, good choice,” Akami reached up and poked his nose. “Oh, and there’s just one more thing.”
“The mask?”
“The mask,” she confirmed. “There’s no one here but me to see that handsome face of yours.”
Handsome. The word felt wrong when he heard it, even if it was said with that pretty voice. He refrained from wincing, but there was no doubt in his mind that Akami had seen the pained look in his eyes.
The fact that she didn’t immediately tease him about it was a gift. One he wasn’t about to let go to waste. So, without any further hesitation, he reached up, tucked a finger under the top of his mask, and pulled the cloth down off of his face. Exposing himself to one of the only people in the world to whom he was comfortable showing his face too.
“There it is,” her lips stretched across her face into a brilliant smile, and her hand settled against his cheek once more, the cold feeling of her skin easing the warmth that had built up in his face from wearing his mask all day. “Just as handsome as I remember it.”

Akami’s existence to Kakashi and Sasuke is so great that I’m seriously curious how the Shippuden plotline will be reflected. Obviously you don’t portray Akami as a godly fixer of all their problems but emotional support is such a huge deal! And Akami no matter how flawed endeavors to provide that. I have so many questions
Would Sasuke leave despite everything? Or would he leave specifically to protect what he has now?
If he does, how will that affect Akami and Kakashi? Will they break up?
On a similar note how would Akami react when it is Orochumaru of all people that causes this
How will Akami react to Obito being alive??
Of course, you may decide to not write any of this but your story is so good it got me stoked wondering
Thank you for sharing your creativity with the fandom!
Hi wow oh my gosh anon ! Thank you for this very thoughtful ask!! It was a delightful thing to wake up to in my inbox💕 I really really really enjoy getting to know what my readers think so i appreciate you reaching out with such wonderful questions and kind words! 🥰  I do 100% plan on writing about nearly all of these things—I am actually working on these later chapters now as I chug along on the next one! While I totally do not mind chatting more about this, I’m not sure that I want to post all the big spoilers on the main blog! (No pressure at all but if you felt comfortable, you are more than welcome to dm me about it here/or chat via discord!*)
I am going to vaguely hint at answers just in case you don’t feel comfortable doing so but I’ll put it under the cut
First a hinting reminder that Lm only slightly deviates from canon—(my deviations come mainly in the smaller events)—and there is going to be an eventual happy ending!!!
-As you mentioned Akami is flawed—and as hard as she tries to be supportive, some new developments may make that a bit challenging for her
-Sasuke has a lot to love, and with that comes a lot of confusion and difficult choices -Akami and Kakashi have a lot of roadblocks ahead, and have butted heads quite a bit in the past -- though they have come this far their healing journey is far from over. Despite their differing opinions there will always be love there
-It is no secret Akami hates her father, and has a tendency to let her anger get the better of her, but as far as Sasuke knows her parents are dead -Obito is a lil shit ! (And thats all I got to say about that for now hahah)
And lastly I will say that the chunin exams are going to be quite a hurdle for all to overcome! ;)
*my discord just in case akamikazae
thank you once again for your interest in my Oc and story--it truly means so much to me my dear anon <33 I hope you continue to enjoy where Akami and her story goes--and you are always welcome in my inbox/dms whether you remain anonymous or not :)
