Inktober day 29: Corrosion

May I present @enden-k ‘s phenomenal OC Saran from their original work Amygdala. It’s a paranormal romance between Vika, a man with a ghost-related sickness, and Saran, a vengeful ghost with the phenomenal eldritch theme of eyes and eternally watching. I really like the eyes, you can probably tell. “Soul Snatching” eyes is just such a great concept. And combined with a bunch of other eyes always watching? Perfectly my vibe, my own little brain guys frequently have some sort of all-seeing eyes type power. It’s cool! There’s also the bonus of Saran being an “evil” entity but truly loving Vika. I enjoy the nuance of morality and relative “good” and “evil” that often comes attached to the paranormal genre. I’ll stop here before I write an entire essay on the morality of ghost revenge. I genuinely cannot wait to see more and learn more about the Fear Seekers, fears, and the story! I highly recommend Enden-K both for their amazing stories and for their fantastic art!

Happy STS! How are the chores divided among your cast? Is there a person who prefers to do the dishes or someone who will do anything to get out of doing dishes?

Hey Charlie, happy STS!

This is actually a perfect ask for Spark Signature, as most of the cast co-own/operate a bar. Chores and business tasks are mostly shared, but everyone definitely has their preferences on what they'd rather be doing:

Vy spends most of their time at the bar mixing drinks, chatting with guests, and cleaning. They live in the bar's upstairs apartment, where their household chores also consist of cleaning (especially the bathroom, which is the bane of Jacqui's existence). Despite their proficiency with alchemy, their skill with cooking ends at instant ramen (although they can get a perfect soft-boil on their eggs every time).

Jacqui handles the bar's finances and manages/cooks for their limited menu. She also mixes and serves drinks, but doesn't prefer this task and pretty much only does it when coverage is needed. She lives in the apartment upstairs with Vy, and handles the cooking when she can (she is a good cook, but has limited energy so that doesn't happen every day. She and Vy order out from the Thai place down the street frequently).

Paris bartends and serves as the bar's security; he's skilled at incantantions (spoken magic - specifically, weaving his spells into mundane-sounding conversation), so when he tells people to leave, they tend to listen. Not terribly involved in the 'behind the scenes' aspects of the bar, and doesn't want to be. Numbers kind of make his head spin.

Welwi manages market research (finding out what patrons might be interested in seeing served at the bar - beer research takes up most of her time on this front), product purchasing, and building upkeep. For this last point, she uses wards to try to deter 'bad energy' from entering the bar, as well as pest prevention. While Vy was initially skeptical of the former's efficacy, they have to admit that the bar has relatively little drama.

Rune bartends and manages the bar's social media presence and tech integrations. Xe's responsible for the bar's ordering system, inventory management system, and the roleplaying table in the corner of the bar (which, while it was made for the crew's benefit, has become a major attraction of the bar - Contents Flammable is famous in South Seattle for the live roleplaying games they sometimes play during operating hours).

Two years ago me barely even touched google sheets. Today me is constantly like “hmm you know what I could do with all this information I’m gathering? Make an intense multi tab spreadsheet as a quick reference guide :)”

Desire and mistake for the not so nice OC questions 😊

Going to go with two OCs for this one, so enjoy! mistake: What’s the worst mistake your OC ever made? What led to them making it? Have they been able to fix it? How have they moved on?

For Saran Aeducan, the worst mistake she ever made was killing her brother Trian during the events of her origin. Much to her shame, making it was easy for her; she was already hot-headed at the best of times and was incredibly combative towards Trian, and all Bhelen needed to do was manipulate that just so into the outcome he wanted; it was all too easy to convince her that Trian had her worst interests at heart, considering the state of their relationship.

Of course, she can't fix it. You can't bring back the dead. She does eventually move on from it, but she doesn't really put her guilt and grief over it to rest until after the events of Awakening, so I'd say it takes her about a year and a half or so to really move on from it.

desire: What’s one thing your OC wants more than anything in the world? Are they open with that desire? Why or why not? What would they do to fulfill it?

For Bela Brizkel, the one thing she wants more than anything else in the world is to be safe: both for herself, and for her eventual loved ones. She keeps that desire close to her chest thanks to her upbringing in the underdark, where it was hard to trust anyone and even the ones you did trust usually still had a knife to your throat. As for what she would do to fulfill it, well... at the start of her journey after being abducted, she'd do anything. To me, part of the fun of her eventual replay is seeing if she sticks to that mindset.
