The #Muslim population of #Rwanda were seen as outsiders and not targeted by the genocide perpetrators. In this #mosque in #Nyamirambo, brave Muslims hid many Tutsi's from the Hutu's, who were too scared of the "Muslim witchcraft" to enter. Jour 13

DAY 13
This morning we are preparing for a long day. Indeed, after many  solicitations during the weekend, five appointments are fixed. First we go to Café La Classe to meet Fiacre Mutabazi, a young social worker who decided to work in a creative profession after his studies. He is co-founder of My story project, which seeks to portray inspiring men and women. His purpose is to show that it is possible to realize one's dreams, one's projects.
After the reunion of the group (some of us looked for water bottles, bananas and a printer during the interview) we reach the hospital Kibagabaga. No bad news to announce (be reassured dear parents!) but we have a meeting with the family planning. We set up interviews with a nurse and a gynecologist-obstetrician, in front of the waiting room.
We learnt a lot, for example the fact that in Rwanda the consent of both spouses is compulsory before taking any contraception.
Then we leave to eat in a very nice little restaurant, where several local dishes are placed on the table: various rice, beef, fries, beans, peas, matooke (based on plantain), fufu (Corn starch paste) ...
This noon was somehow singular. When we left the restaurant, we experienced an unexpected situation. A man collapsed on the ground, started spitting blood and convulsing. No one seemed willing to help him. So we tried to call for help, but after seven calls, no one answered. Thus we went to a pharmacy nearby but its owner seemed more amused than really worried. Then the man on the floor started shouting sharply and shrilly, then ended up talking. Passers-by told us that this was the usual situation for this man and that he was telling his story: his mother-in-law would have cast a spell or poisoned him, for no apparent reason. He asks for money so he can eat even if he explains that he would end up spitting blood anyway. According to him, he would get up in a few minutes, but we will not check it since we eventually left, although this experience left us a bitter memory.
In the early afternoon, we go to the regional stadium for an interview with AS Kigali soccer players. First of all, we are surprised by a police parade training, accompanied by a fanfare, before letting women's soccer training happen. We learn that 90% of the girls on the team play on the national team. Two of them agreed to be interviewed.
After a small football game, where we were able to attest Mélanie and Angeloos football talent, we return to the national stadium hoping to meet female taekwondoists. It's a failure, none of them are training tonight.
We head back to the villa*, where, after a quick dinner, we go to bed early, exhausted by that day.
* Small private joke from a french reality show.
