Regulators unable to intervene with potential ponzi seminar
Unable to step into a regulatory grey area, New Zealandâs watchdogs rely on the media to spread a message of caution
Regulators had limited power to stop a cryptocurrency firm flagged as a potential ponzi and pyramid scheme from carrying out a seminar in Christchurch last night.
WEWE Global, which describes itself as âThe Crypto Multi-service Platformâ and apparently offers a cloud minting service, says its main selling point is a referral bonus, with users able to receive daily commissions from community members.
As pointed out by David Farrierâs Webworm newsletter earlier this month, it sounds a lot like a multilevel marketing scheme.
In a warning issued yesterday morning, the Financial Markets Authority said WEWE and associated company LYOPAY were offering crypto currency products and service via webinars and public events in New Zealand but were not registered on the Financial Service Providers Register as required by law.
It recommended exercising caution when dealing with the entities and listed a series of website domains they operated under.
Ticket sales to the conference werenât available through Eventbrite yesterday, but were previously advertised as costing between AUS$10 and $20.
A call to Novotel Christchurch Airport (the venue for WEWEâs New Zealand visit yesterday afternoon) confirmed the conference was going ahead.
WEWEâs Eventbrite profile shows it had previously carried seminars in New Zealand and that last nightâs visit was part of a February 4 to February 15 Oceania Tour, which included stops in Australia.
It had previously carried out (or at least advertised) an event in Auckland in December 2022.
The event
Headlined by WEWEâs Presidential Ambassador & Global Master Distributor Diego Endrizzi, the description for the event lent heavily on hard to understand crypto-speak and the underlying investment product is unclear.
It actively targeted desperate individuals.
âWe live during challenging times with tough economic conditions. Many people are fighting for survival with rising inflation, high interest rates, rising food costs and other essentials and need a âsolutionâ that works for them. Are you struggling financially, dissatisfied with you [sic] current situation, looking for a way out, a way forward?,â its Eventbrite page said.
Commerce Commission fair trading general manager Vanessa Horne said it was aware of WeWe Global and allegations made against it but it was yet to engage with it.
âWe are currently assessing the information received, to decide whether to open an investigation and what compliance and enforcement options that may be available,â Horne said.
âOur assessment looks at the nature of allegations and whether they potentially raise a concern under the Fair Trading Act.â
Any engagement with the business would only happen if an investigation was opened.
The Serious Fraud Office had lodged a complaint with the Financial Markets Authority (FMA), which regulates the offering of financial advice in New Zealand, leading to the warning notice.
If the FMA is concerned enough about the event to issue a public press release saying it is a potential scam, why hasnât it stopped the event going ahead?
Cryptocurrency is a shady area for the authority as it isnât regulated in New Zealand, though any New Zealand-based trading platforms must be registered financial service providers.
Because crypto isnât a recognised financial product, any regulator, be it the Serious Fraud Office, the Commerce Commission or the FMA, will find it difficult to intervene until a crime has actually been committed.
The FMA also doesnât have the power to regulate physical events.
When it comes to potential pyramid schemes sitting in a regulatory grey zone, New Zealandâs watchdog must instead rely on the media spreading a message of caution.

WEWE Global comes to Australian & New Zealand is WEWE.Global a Scam Or Legitimate? #ScamDemic
WEWE Global comes to Christchurch, got an email from David Farrier asking me to put together a few paragraphs explaining why this is not a good thing. For the last 12 months Iâve been exposing the Ponzi scheme HyperVerse, it is estimated that $4 billion has been lost to people that invested in this crypto opportunity of a lifetime. Originally people were told that if they invest $300 they would get $900 paid back to them in rewards in 600 days. Now they come out with different opportunities and rebrand themselves every few weeks. Like any Ponzi scheme itâs impossible for them to survive. Once the money stopped, the lies started and the community got angry. The so-called âcorporateâ behind it all promised to return peopleâs investments and claimed hackers had stolen the money. This is all part of the slow exit strategy. Many of the leadership team that have been promoting HyperVerse, who are called VIP5, jumped ship and started diversifying to other Ponzi schemes such as NovaTechFX and WEWE Global. One of the biggest multi-level marketers in the world who is promoting WEWE Global is Kalpesh Patel who has moved to Dubai. He recently travelled to South Africa running a promotion similar to Diego Endrizzi, who is travelling to 5 locations in New Zealand and Australia in February. WEWE Global Oceania Tour 2023 Pullman Melbourne Albert Park Sat, 4 Feb 2023 +61 3 9529 4300 Novotel Sydney Parramatta Tue, 7 Feb 2023 +61 2 9630 4999 Novatel Christchurch Airport Thu, 9 Feb 2023 +64 3 357 6610 InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort Sat, 11 Feb 2023 +61 7 5530 1234 Adelaide Convention Centre Wed, 15 Feb 2023 +61 8 8212 4099 These events are used to recruit new leaders and entice crypto investors into an opportunity of a lifetime. It is all multi-level marketing. They do not have a product or a service. They are selling a promise and a hope of big returns. Iâve tried to disrupt them as much as possible by contacting all the venues that are hosting the events, âWEWE Global Oceania Tour 2023â. Iâve also contacted the Serious Fraud Office who has lodged a complaint with the FMA. Donât be fooled by these men in suits who use crypto terminology. They are the scumbags of the planet, they are the modern day thieves who will rob you blind. The people that are falling victim are not youngsters, they are people heading into retirement who are trying to get their head around crypto, the blockchain, the ecosystem and the Metaverse. Many of the people that contact me on a daily basis have invested their retirement money and lost the lot. They didnât seem to fully understand what they had invested in. They trusted a friend or a family member who encouraged them to invest. I feel like I am fighting this battle alone, but if I can disrupt or slow these fraudsters down, I will do everything in my power to throw obstacles at them. They defraud people out of their hard earned dollars. Iâve created over 150 YouTube videos exposing Ponzi schemes and scams. I am currently investigating 50 like-minded Ponzi schemes. I havenât produced a video exposing WEWE Global yet. However, I can tell you they are in the top 5 Ponzi schemes happening at the moment. There is a real #ScamDemic out there at the moment. If it sounds too good to be true, it often is. P.S. If you like this article, please click âlikeâ or provide comment, as that will motivate me to publish more. Share and inspire. Thank you. Read the full article

Day 22. February 20, 2020. KaikĹura to Akaroa to Leithfield. 410km. 4932km total = 3065 miles.
Today the clouds were back but no rain was in the forecast so we went down the hill into town and I ordered a cappuccino and a lemon blueberry muffin to start the day at Pot Belly bakery. We chatted a little back at the hotel with a crew of 6 Harley folks from Wellington on 3 bikes. They were planning a New Orleans to Vero ride in October so we made a few suggestions. Made friends with a gigantic tame rabbit at the hotel before riding out around 9. It was a straight shot down the coast about 4 hours on the main Hwy 1 (I-95 equivalent) but this main artery has lots of construction, flag men stops, cattle on the road! Even in Christchurch there are red lights and lots of traffic circles. We had heard about the beauty of the Akaroa peninsula just SE of CHC and though it made for a big day, we rode through wine country and lots of farmland to slip into moderate traffic through CHC. Hard to believe this is the last day! As we venture onto the peninsula the road empties and we are chasing the sunshine. Cloudy until arriving here, the sun and colors emboldened by its rays lit up our windy curves along the coast. Apparently cruise ships pull into Akaroa for the views and beauty. A couple more construction zones and a nice flag man who let us roar up the hillside to catch up with the recently dismissed line of waiting cars and trucks. The last 10kms toward Akaroa scales the scenic mountains as we intersected with the well known Summit Rd. Unfortunately this road took us to the eastern bays of the peninsula in the opposite direction from where we needed to return our bikes back in Leithfield. As it was, our expected return was around 3PM today and we didn't have time to explore Summit Rd. today. We were literally arrested by the view as we rounded the corner and saw the view at Hilltop Tavern. We pulled in as if ensnared and parked by another biker who was equally spellbound. Top pic above. We lounged and I enjoyed a salmon pizza (pic) and a Coke but mostly the view which is saying something because the pizza was excellent! A fairly tame sheep made laps along the fence line on 6" of flattened earth munching the numerous tufts of grass and enjoying the occasional scratching by diners. Opportunistic sparrows awaited your lack of attention to claim any unattended food. It was around 68° and just a great way to wrap up the ride.
The cruise back to Leithfield was smooth, in and out of the traffic circles as the reality of the trip's end hits. What an adventure. What a beautiful country. Easy to enjoy, geared for tourism, US dollar is strong here but sort of a long ride to get here. Worth it if you can make it happen! No problems checking in the bike and Kiwi (Carrie) was kind enough to again ferry us back to town, this time to the brand new Novotel at the airport. It wasn't even open when I booked it 5 months ago. It is a primo Novotel. We drove past the US Antarctic center where most all flights to and from our base originate. Carrie said she thought it was actually considered US soil, a la Normandy. There were 4 USAF C-130 aircraft with their newfangled curves props on the tarmac and some other jet. We also enjoyed riding there with our new Norwegian friend Per, who returned his bike and was also booked at the appropriately named Novotel. My room was so nice. Soundproof glass in a corner with views on two sides and seriously less than 200 yards to both the control tower and the Emirates A380 loading up with passengers. I went to the airport to do a little shopping since I didn't think they would be open at 4AM the next morning (wrong). Went back and met Ted and Per at the bar to enjoy the view and watch the world's largest commercial aircraft lumber down the strip and lift off surprisingly quickly. Felt like a little kid. âď¸ đł A spectacular dinner for me included dumplings followed by rack of lamb, garlic mashed, Caesar salad. Really a great last dinner in this fine land weirdly punctuated by the unexplained disappearance of our server, Imogen. Halfway through the meal we noticed she wasn't around. After a bit we asked other servers to have her come by, only to be met with shrugs that they didn't know where she had gone. Never found while we were there! đ¤ˇââď¸ A relatively early night since alarms were set for 3:30. Wrapping this now at the airport all checked in waiting for first leg to Sydney. Then on to LA, somehow landing before I left due to the date line weirdness and then on home to ATL. Glad to be done writing, what a commitment from folks who do it daily but also glad to have followed through and captured just some of the events, feelings and silly things from this journey. Great place to ride! Peace, out. âď¸ đ đłđż đşđ¸
PS. Back in ATL now. Though 30 hours of traveling couldn't have gone smoother. If you are one of the folks reading this along the way. Thanks for making the time to share my NZ adventure with me as it unfolded. Comfort class with an extra seat made a nice difference on the 13 hour leg from SYD to LAX. Flew right over the harbor and got good shots of town and the opera house. Nice to be home, too. Until the next adventure. ... đłđ´

Saturday/Sunday   Days 30 & 31 The final dash for Lyttleton and Christchurch
Saturday - at sea   They promised us a calm voyage up the west coast of NZ to Lyttleton: the port of Christchurch.  Well, they got that one wrong(!!!) and we were buffeted around almost all the way from The Snares to the port.  It was the last day (and two nights) of the expedition and it was all at sea.  There was a lot of administrative tasks to fill the day, with packing and preparing for land, paying shipboard accounts, returning borrowed gumboots and life jackets and so on.
They had a really great final recap session in the afternoon with a comprehensive review of our voyage and answers to many more questions. Dan had produced a wonderful 27-minute video featuring most of the highlights of the trip and they premiered that during the session.  (We were all given a copy of it, along with a timeline and some great maps of our voyage, on a USB stick when we left the ship.) He is a great photographer and the whole video is a truly brilliant reminder of so many aspects of the trip. It is also a great way for us to show people what the trip was like in quite a condensed and very visual format. We have shown it to some of our kids and the trouble is that as it plays, we keep wanting to pause it to elaborate or explain the experience, or add something of our personal touches to it.
There were also lots of thank you speeches â for each member of the staff, the Russian crew, even for us expeditioners. Â A particular highlight was a thank you to David Harrowfield, the historian who was retiring from guiding after 51 trips to the Antarctic. Â The whole wind-up session was all very emotional for most people. Â We had all contributed donations that we gave to David to pass on to the Antarctic Heritage Trust that works on the historic restoration projects down there.
Sunday Christchurch   The ship found a relatively calm anchorage overnight, but set off again quite early today so we arrived in Lyttleton as soon as the pilot could get us into the port.  Then it was getting our passports stamped by Immigration and a sign-off by Customs, lots more âthank yousâ and a few emotional farewells to staff and numerous passengers and eventually onto the bus to take us for a surprisingly long trip into the Christchurch city centre where quite a few alighted. We stayed on the bus with quite a few others who were heading to the airport (another fair distance) for flights later in the day.
At the airport, we collected our bags from the bus and trekked the 50 metres across the carpark to the Novotel where we were staying overnight. Â Fortunately, despite the early hour, we were able to get straight into our very comfortable room and enjoyed a leisurely cuppa and a sit down before even opening our bags. Â We did a minimum of organisation and set off to walk to the International Antarctic Centre half a kilometre away. Â (The Novotel is in a great location. Â We had been dropped virtually at the door, the Antarctic Centre that we really wanted to see was an easy walk away, and the airport check-in was only a hundred metres or so in the opposite direction.)
The Antarctic Centre is quite fabulous with lots of history and natural history exhibits, and hands-on experiences enough to fill in several hours. Â There is a penguin display where several rescued Little Penguins (aka Fairy or Blue Penguins) and New Zealandâs White-flippered Penguins were being fed. Â They have a realistic âAntarctic Experienceâ a few times a day where tourists can get rigged out (much as we were in the wild) and enter a big room at -18 degrees with snow and gale-force winds, etc. Â You have to pay extra to do that and having just spent days doing it in real life, we elected not to participate in that one. Â There is also an area where you can get smashed about as if in a ship in a storm, but again, we had the bruises to prove we didnât need to do that again.
It is an outstanding museum, crammed full of memorabilia, exhibits, information boards and hands-on devices and we enjoyed it immensely. Â Definitely worth visiting if you are ever near Christchurch. Â We had a pie (had been hanging out for some really good food!!) in a poorly-serviced dining area then returned to the display area to explore a bit further and watch a couple of excellent videos. There was a massive screen showing a 17-minute loop of life in Antarctica and another much longer one about a year at the McMurdo Base. Â It ran for well over an hour and was very US-centric, but we watched it all and it was excellent.
Back in our room, we relaxed for a while and took advantage of the free Wi-fi and fired off a few quick emails, mainly to the family. I had nearly 700 waiting for me â fortunately mostly spam but I still had to look through them to retrieve the kosher ones that had been placed in the spam folder in error. Â We had heard about the crazy panic buying of toilet paper in Australia so we slipped one roll from the hotel into our baggage in case we arrived home to find our apartment burgled and all our rolls stolen. Â This was just before the world finally imploded completely: an event that our return to Australia seems to have precipitated. Madness!
We had booked an early meal in the Novotel restaurant and it was excellent â much better than anything we had on the ship with the possible exception of one excellent Sunday roast dinner. Â Then an early night with the alarm set for 3am â that is not yet another typo â it really was 3am.

Travel Quarantines: Enduring the Mundane, One Day at a Time May Samali knew sheâd reached her limit when she saw a tentacle emerging from her hotel dinner in Sydney, Australia. âI called downstairs and said, âIâm a vegan now, thank you!ââ she said. âIt was just so much fish. Iâd gotten to the point where even thinking about it made me gag.â Ms. Samali swore off the seemingly unlimited seafood while in the middle of a required quarantine in the Hotel Sofitel in Sydney this December and early January. An executive coach, she was repatriating back to Australia after her U.S. work visa expired. In addition to an excess of fish, Ms. Samali was confined to her room all day, forbidden from stepping outside, for two weeks. Air travelers around the world are finding themselves in similar situations, enduring mandatory government quarantines in hotels as they travel to countries that are very serious about containing the coronavirus. Their quarantine is not the cushy experience of shorter-term quarantines or âresort bubblesâ found in some destinations like Kauai and the British Virgin Islands, where you are able to roam relatively freely on a resortâs expansive grounds while waiting for a negative coronavirus test. This is the more extreme, yet typical experience of quarantine life. These mandatory quarantines involve confinement to your room, 24 hours a day, for up to two weeks (assuming you test negative, that is). And with some exceptions, you are footing the bill â quarantine in New South Wales, Australia, for example, costs about $2,300, or 3,000 Australian dollars for a two-week quarantine for one adult, and up to 5,000 Australian dollars for a family of four to quarantine for two weeks (in January, Britain announced a mandatory 10-day quarantine from high-risk areas with a similar cost of about $2,500 for one adult). Travelers now journeying to countries with mandatory hotel quarantines, which also include New Zealand, mainland China and Tunisia, generally must have compelling reasons to do so â visiting ailing family members, âessentialâ business travel or permanent relocation. Most accept the inconvenience and inevitable claustrophobia of the quarantine as the price of traveling. But while there can be comfort in establishing some kind of routine resembling normal life, travelers find themselves craving human connection, fresh air and, well, different food (the staff at the Sofitel happily accommodated Ms. Samaliâs request; she is still off fish). Travel quarantine might seem manageable, even familiar, for those who have been living in places with shelter-in-place orders and working from home. Pete Lee, a San Francisco-based filmmaker, wasnât concerned about the quarantine when he flew to Taiwan for work and to visit family. âI was a little bit cocky when I first heard about the requirement,â said Mr. Lee, during his eighth day at the Roaders Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan. âI was inside my San Francisco apartment for 22 out of 24 hours a day! But itâs a surprisingly intense experience. Those two hours make a big difference.â Destination: unknown Much of quarantine life is determined by your hotel. And depending on where you are traveling, you may get to choose your quarantine hotel, or you may be assigned upon arrival. Mr. Lee, in Taiwan, was able to choose and book his quarantine hotel from a list compiled by the Taiwanese government, complete with information about location, cost, room size and the presence (or lack thereof) of windows. He also footed the bill. Similarly, Ouiem Chettaoui, a public policy specialist who splits her time between Washington, D.C., and Tunisia, was able to choose a hotel for her weeklong quarantine when returning to Tunis with her husband in September; she based her selection, the Medina Belisaire & Thalasso on price and proximity to the Mediterranean Sea (âWe couldnât see it, but we could hear it ⌠at least, we told ourselves we could!â she said). Brett Barna, an investment manager who relocated to Shanghai with his fiancĂŠe in November, could select a district in the city, but not the hotel itself. In an attempt to improve their odds, Mr. Barna chose the upscale Huangpu district where, he hoped, the hotels would be higher quality. âThere were four possible hotels in the district, three of which were nice enough. And then there was the budget option, the Home Inn,â he said. Mr. Barna and his fiancĂŠe, to their dismay, ended up paying for quarantine in that option, which had peeling wallpaper and bleach stains on the floor thanks to aggressive cleaning protocols. In Australia and New Zealand, thereâs no choice in the matter â upon landing, your entire flight is bused to a quarantine hotel with capacity. In most instances, travelers do not know where they are going until the bus pulls up at the hotel itself. Joy Jones, a coach and educator who is based in San Francisco, traveled to New Zealand with her husband, a New Zealand citizen, and two young daughters in January. She learned before their departure that they would have no say where in the country they would be quarantined. âThat was probably the hardest part,â she said. âI could put together a bag of activities for my older daughter, and plan on doing laundry in the sink. But not having an answer to where weâd be â after more than 21 hours of flying, with masks â would we have to get another flight? A three-hour bus ride?â They didnât. Ms. Jones and her family were taken to Stamford Plaza in Auckland, just 25 minutes from the airport. Pim Techamuanvivit and her New Zealander husband, however, were not so lucky. After arriving in Auckland from San Francisco, they were promptly directed to board another flight to Christchurch, and to the Novotel Christchurch Airport hotel. âAt that point, we just really, really wanted to get to the hotel!â said Ms. Techamuanvivit, the chef-owner of Nari and Kin Khao restaurants in San Francisco and the executive chef of Nahm in Bangkok. Relief at arriving â finally â might be the initial reaction, but it doesnât take long for reality to set in. The hotel room is all that youâll see for a not insignificant period of time. As Adrian Wallace, a technology project manager who was quarantined at the Sydney Hilton in August after visiting his ailing father in Britain, put it: âThat moment when the door slams ⌠itâs reminiscent of the opening scene of âThe Shawshank Redemptionâ!â Mr. Wallace said, referring to the 1994 prison movie with Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. Passing the time The challenge is managing the tedium. Working remotely helped pass the time for a number of the travelers, including Tait Sye, a senior director at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, who traveled to Taipei, Taiwan, from Washington, D.C. in November. Mr. Sye attempted to maintain East Coast hours for the majority of his quarantine at the Hanns House Hotel, working from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Mr. Wallace ran a half marathon around his Sydney hotel room (he was unable to adjust the in-room air-conditioner and got very sweaty). Mr. Barna and his fiancĂŠe in Shanghai had date nights on Zoom, since official policy required them to quarantine in separate rooms. A major highlight of their days came when a hotel employee, clad in full, hazmat-style P.P.E., knocked on the door and pointed an infrared thermometer at their heads. They were not allowed outside. In New Zealand, travelers who test negative for the virus are allowed on the hotel grounds for supervised constitutionals after checking in with guards at multiple checkpoints (masks and distancing are still required, and the rules can quickly change if there is any threat of an outbreak in the country). The ability to get fresh air and walk was crucial for Ms. Jones, and a key part of the routine she created for her family. Other aspects included morning yoga, remote school, nap times, playtime and art projects (her husband worked remotely from the bathroom). âWe decorated a paper horse that we hung in our window â every day, a different part of it â that was a favorite activity. Weâd have dance parties. And weâd watch a movie every night. We did what we could to bring some fun into it,â Ms. Jones said. Three meals a day Meals become very important in quarantine life, to mark the passing of the time and as regular occurrences to break up the monotony of the day. Food quality, though, varies widely, as Mr. Sye learned in Taipei, where meals were ordered from nearby restaurants. He recounted the highs of a Michelin-starred meal from Kamâs Roast Goose and the thoughtfulness of a Thanksgiving dinner decorated with a paper turkey to the low of an absolutely terrible pizza (at least it was accompanied by a beer). For Ms. Techamuanvivit who documented her quarantine in Christchurch on Twitter, ordering food and grocery delivery was a life-saver. âIâm a chef. I suppose I am, shall we say, a snob!â she said. âAs a restaurateur, I donât have much love for UberEats. But ordering Indian takeaway proved to be important.â (Others who had delivery options available similarly cited them as game-changing). Ms. Techamuanvivit spiced up hotel meals with leftover Indian pickles and found that Greek tzatziki sauce ordered from the grocery store worked well as a salad dressing. She and her husband also treated themselves to nice bottles of wine from the hotel restaurantâs wine list (In Australia and New Zealand, quarantined guests were limited to a delivery of six beers or one bottle of wine per person per day, perhaps to ward off belligerence. In Shanghai, alcohol was not allowed). Seeking connection on social media There are Facebook groups dedicated to hotel quarantine, by region and even by specific hotel, where members share tips for boiling eggs using in-room kettles and âcookingâ with an iron. They were also a source of community; Mr. Wallace, who learned of the Sydney Hiltonâs Facebook group while on the bus from the airport, participated in a daily Zoom call with members of the group (the meals of the day were a constant topic of conversation). Mr. Lee moderated filmmaking conversations on Clubhouse, an invitation-only social media app, and spent time on Tinder while in quarantine; he connected with a woman who was nearing the end of her confinement in another hotel across town. Ms. Jones documented her familyâs quarantine experience on her private Instagram account, showing forts made of blankets, paper airplane competitions and âbowlingâ with water bottles and a crumpled ball made of paper. She was touched that friends and family, both in New Zealand and in the United States, sent her family meals, treats and toys for her daughters in response to her posts. âIt was a really cool way to feel love, and connection, from such an isolated space,â she said. Air India No Longer Available on Sabre GDS
Sabre has confirmed that flight and fare content from the troubled airline, Air India, is no longer available through its GDS system. The two companies have been partners for over 20 years.
Kristin Hays, vice president â global communications for Sabre, said, âWe are very disappointed that Air India decided to withdraw from Sabre. We believe that access to Sabreâs global network of travel agencies provides great value to Air India. We have worked with Air India for the better part of a year to reach a new agreement, in anticipation of the existing contract expiring and after receiving a termination notice from the carrier. Unfortunately, after extensive negotiations, we have been unable to come to a new agreement. Our teams will continue to work with Air India to finalize an agreement that meets the needs of Sabre, Air India and travel buyers.â The Indian airline has been looking for a new investor since 2018 and speculation is rife over whether the airline will be able to remain in business. âSabre remains committed to GDS agreements that meet our airline customersâ unique needs while also balancing the needs of the travel buyers who rely on Sabre for robust travel content,â added Ms. Hays. Aman Signs Fourth Resort in Japan
Aman has signed its fourth resort in Japan, an all-season retreat situated on the high slopes of Mt. Moiwa on an untouched nature reserve in Hokkaidoâs Niseko region. The Niseko region is renowned for its abundant snowfall and long ski runs in winter, while the summer months are equally appealing, with mild weather ideal for hiking, mountain biking and river rafting. Scheduled to open in 2023, the Aman Niseko will feature just 30 guest rooms and 31 residences, a spa and extensive wellness facilities, two pools, a two-storey kid's club, and a number of restaurants on an expansive 187-hectare site.
Paying homage to Japanâs ryokan (traditional inn), Aman Niseko will frame forest and mountain vistas from every angle, while incorporating open fireplaces, private Furo bathtubs in each room and onsen facilities. Terraces will offer sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, and wooden accents throughout the interiors will provide warmth, depth and a sense of bringing nature within. Vladislav Doronin, Chairman and CEO of Aman, said, "The announcement of Aman Niseko follows the recent and successful debut of Aman Kyoto. Aman Niseko is designed in harmony with its expansive and serene surroundings and the resort and residences will embrace Amanâs devotion to detail and impeccable service. This all-season resort will be a haven of peacefulness immersed in the purest Japanese scenery with the renowned thoughtfulness of Japanese hospitality." The resort and its residences have been designed by Kerry Hill Architects, also responsible for the design of Amanâs other Japan properties; Aman Tokyo, Amanemu and Aman Kyoto. GTR Opens Air Cargo Hub at KLIA Air Cargo Terminal 1
GTR (Ground Team Red), a joint venture between AirAsia and SATS, has launched its air cargo hub at the KLIA Air Cargo Terminal 1 (KACT1). Located at the former low-cost carrier terminal in Sepang, the facility spans 93,000 sq ft and was built at a cost of MYR 23 million. It adds additional storage to the existing 40,000 sq ft warehouse, and the combined facilities will handle 300,000 tons of air freight annually, strengthening Malaysiaâs goal of being a regional logistic hub. The new air cargo hub enables GTR to expand its capabilities by handling both narrow and wide-body aircraft cargo operations and has motorised material handling system that facilitates efficient handling of Unit Load Devices (ULDs).
The new air cargo hub also has a purpose-built 10,000 square feet cold-chain facility for specialised handling for perishable and pharmaceutical products and dedicated zones for dangerous goods, pets and valuable cargo handling. Modern security cargo scanners offer both horizontal and vertical views of cargo to enhance detection. Malaysia's Minister of Transport, YB Loke Siew Fook, said, âI would like to congratulate GTR on the launch of their Air Cargo hub today, and their efforts to enhance airline ground handling operations in Malaysia. It is an impressive facility and will help to further elevate KLIA and klia2 as a key logistics gateway, in line with my Ministryâs National Logistics Masterplan to develop Malaysia as a logistics hub. I would also like to see GTR replicate this facility, in particular their cold-room capabilities to other airports in Malaysia to add further value to our ambition of developing Malaysia as a logistics hub.â Ground Team Red CEO Kevin Chin added, âWe expect KLIAâs air cargo to grow steadily. With global eCommerce players investing in the region, the increased capacity and digitalisation will enhance air cargo handling services. We will continue our efforts to strengthen Malaysiaâs position to become a world class logistics hub in the region by adding capabilities in other parts of Malaysia.â See latest Travel News, Interviews, Podcasts and other news regarding: GTR, Cargo, Freight.
