You know. Most of what I've seen (and done) about Danny being in the Batfamily is that he's Damian's brother and/or Bruce's son.
But here me what.
What if Danny stole Damian?
Like, Damian fucks up somehow, probably something to do with Danny (nobody knows who he is so he';'s just a civilian in their eyes) and then panics because he may have accidentally killed this person and he may or may not be disowned or sent back to the League of Assassins.
Enter, one Danny Fenton. Halfa, failing grades and lover of space!
He uh, well, you know, steals the kid because he's obviously scared of something and you would think the law and now that Danny thinks of it that's perfectly reasonable considering this would've probably killed a normal human and wow the police in Gotham suck so he's now going to steal this kid away from Gotham before he ends up on the other side of very corrupted cops.
Of course, Damian does do a lil fighting here and there, a little stumped by how this person isn't dead but Danny managed to calm him down enough to get out of Gotham and you know what? Since he already stole him away, he might as well just go the rest of the way with it!
Que, ze batfamily being extremely concerned and flipping Gotham over to look for Damian only to not find him.

Finally getting help (pt 2)
This one actually is edited thanks to @basementqueercock! Thank you friend!
part 1 | Masterpost
-------
Vlad had been making a stink at the Gala about the Wayne brats taking his godson from him without his permission when the music suddenly cut out. Bruce Wayne himself stalked towards Vlad with an expression that was honestly a little intimidating, even if Vlad obviously wasn’t scared of such an empty headed pretty boy even if he was one of the richest and most influential people on the planet. He was Plasmius! He could take a rich pretty boy is he had to!
“Ah! Mr. Wayne, thank goodness! Your children have taken my Godson off somewhere! I’m sure it’s just a harmless prank but he’s a bit fragile and unpredictable so I really think that it would be best if-“
“Is he fragile and unpredictable because he’s pregnant and you knew?” Bruce asked low and dangerous. Silence spread out around them, even though there’s no way they could have heard they saw the look on Brucie’s face. He rarely got angry but when he did it was serious, when he did it usually meant someone had hurt a kid.
Vlad blanched for a moment, Danny had been so tight lipped about it, so unwilling to tell even those he trusted how did These people know?! “What? What on earth are you talking about? Of course he’s not pregnant, I mean he’s a boy!” Vlad huffed and Bruce’s jaw tightened even more somehow.
“He’s not leaving with you. Get out.” He said low and menacing, then raised his voice. “Sorry to cut the party short everyone but something has come up, a situation that really needs my attention so I’m going to have to put an end to the party early.”
“What do you mean!? He’s MY God son! MY heir! You can’t just keep him from me!” Vlad said, he knew that his eyes were starting to glow a little red but he couldn’t help it. “He’s MINE! Return him to me or you will regret it I swear!”
“See him out.” Bruce said dismissively to a handful of guards who had approached at the start of the commotion A lot of the socialites were already starting to see themselves out, now was not the time to argue, or even stick around when it looked like this might get physical.
“I will be back! I will be back with lawyers and police and the brat’s parents,” Vlad vowed but couldn’t risk fighting the guards any more than a usual old man would on the way out with so many eyes on him. Well he just needed to find a place alone. Then he could transform and come back, possess Bruce Wayne and make him do something heinous in public to ruin him for this.. this- this INDIGNITY!
-------
Bruce was having a hard time keeping his Batman expressions off his face as he saw that everyone was out of his house and he knew his children were having the same trouble. Dick looked like he was ready to bash someone’s head in and Steph wasn’t that much better. Damian was standing by the door, seeing everyone out with frosty politeness that no one would mistake as genuine. Bruce felt just a little bad, it wasn’t anyone’s fault what they had found tonight. No one else knew about the clearly abused teen they were currently harbouring, but none of the family could help it either. Bruce would send all the guests gift baskets once they could announce what was going on.
Alfred was on the phone with Bruce’s lawyers, sending them the mildly distorted audio from Danny’s earlier conversation with Cas and Dick, and the footage from Vlad Master’s outburst. That had the same sort of distortion over it too which was odd, he’d have to look into it. Cas had already informed him she thought Danny was a meta of some sort, maybe it was connected to that? Or maybe they were aliens? Though Danny being trans was currently the most plausible explanation for his pregnancy. They’d find out more later. What mattered was the footage of both of those would be enough for Bruce to get emergency custody while the family was investigated.
Tim was with Danny in the room Alfred had fixed for him, helping him settle in and lending him some clothes. Tim was the closest to Danny’s age and also one of the calmer ones right now so he was in charge of trying to make Danny feel safe and comfortable while the family took up battle stations to deal with the legal and logistical elements of this.
Bruce made sure everyone was out, the perimeter was secure, and Oracle was at her computer watching the security feed for anything suspicious including the pattern of distortion Vlad and Danny seemed to emit. He wasn’t sure how paranoid he should be about all this, but he’d seen the way Vlad’s eyes sparked red when he was angry and Batman was sure he was a lot more dangerous then he first seemed. And not just in the way that he was apparently willing to impregnate a boy young enough to be his son.
Finally he couldn’t avoid going to check on Danny anymore. Not that he was Really avoiding it, just that he knew this was going to be an exhausting and difficult conversation and he needed to brace himself for it. With every step towards Danny’s new room he felt the weight gather on his shoulders of what this child must have been through.
He knocked, and let himself in. Immediately clocking the way Danny tensed at the sight of him. Of course a rich older man would set off his alarm bells. Bruce gave the softest smile he could and went to pull out the desk chair across from the bed Danny was sitting on, well out of arms reach so he wouldn’t seem like a threat as he sat down. He glanced at Tim who nodded and went and sat on the bed next to Danny. Solidarity, willing to stand up against Bruce if Danny needed it, safety.
“Hello Danny, it’s nice to meet you. My children told me a bit about.. your situation,” Bruce said with a small grimace. “Would you mind if I ask you some questions? I promise I won’t judge you whatever you say, and I promise I am on your side. No matter what I will try to keep you safe okay? Just tell me the truth, it’ll help me do what needs to be done.”
“Alright Mr. Wayne,” Danny said, though he was still wary.
“Thank you, please call me Bruce. So first, what’s your full name?” he asked deciding to start super easy.
“Daniel James Fenton,” Danny replied softly.
“Your parents names?”
“Doctors Madeline and Jack Fenton,” Huh the fact that he called his parents doctor like it was part of their name seemed to be significant though Bruce wasn’t sure exactly what it meant.
“How old are you?”
“I’m 16,” He said. A little older than he looked but still no where near old enough to have the weight of the world on his shoulders like he did.
“And you’re pregnant?” Bruce asked as gently as he could, Danny nodded. “And you’re sure?”
“Yes,” Danny said softly and Bruce nodded, licking his lips a little.
“Did you take a test then?” He asked and Danny grimaced making a so so motion.
“It’s not… that simple,” He said softly.
“Can you explain it to me please?” Bruce asked softly.
Danny took a deep breath and licked his lips, hesitating, opening his mouth to stat, hesitating again and biting his lip. Bruce stayed quiet as he watched the conflict on Danny’s face. “You work with the justice league right?” Danny asked suddenly which seemed like a bit of a non sequitur to Bruce but he needed. “A bunch of the members aren’t human right?” Ah, Bruce nodded again. “And you’re okay with that?”
“Of course I am Danny,” Bruce promised, soft and reassuring. “People don’t have to be human or from earth to be people. Whatever is going on with you you’re still a person, and a kid, and deserve to be protected.”
“Okay,” Danny said as he scrutinized Bruce’s body language for any sign that he was lying. “Okay. I’ve never been able to trust any adults with this shit but I can’t keep doing this on my own so okay. I’m not human, not fully anyway, not anymore. These are..” He touched his stomach. “Like if you did an ultrasound you wouldn’t see embryos more like… Hang on Here.”
Bruce blinked as Danny suddenly, reached Inside himself, and before he could panic Danny had pulled out a perfectly round object that filled his palm. It shimmered with light from within, cold and sparkling with stars. “Our kind is more energy and light then anything else. This is Us, the mind, heart, everything we are is stored in our core the rest is formed around that. I mean for most of my kind, I’m still half human.” Danny said before replacing the orb inside him. “I have two other little cores inside me right now, feeding on my energy to develop properly, you could see them on an Xray. I don’t know how long they’ll take honestly.” He sighed caressing his stomach again.
“But I can feel them inside me, I can feel their worry when I’m scared, and their joy when I’m happy, and their love. They’re my babies.” He said with the softest most paternal smile on his lips. The bags under his eyes were awful, he was clearly exhausted and stressed, but his expression told Bruce Danny thought it was all going to be worth it for his children. It brought a lump to his throat he had to clear before he could speak again.
“Okay, do you have access to healthcare appropriate for your.. species?” He asked and Danny nodded. Though he was tight lipped still.
“There are protections for non-human species in America you know,” Tim said.
Bruce and Tim exchanged a confused look as Danny barked a laugh. “Not for MY kind, we were specifically excluded,” He said with a wry curl to his lips. “The shadow or echo left behind when a proper human dies, not sentient or sapient they say. Malicious and dangerous they say. To be captured or exterminated on sight. They would take me, experiment on me, probably put my babies in jars or something.”
Oh, oh fuck, he was shaking, eyes blank and glassy like he was heading towards a panic attack. “Danny! Danny look at me,” Bruce said as he leaned forward and Danny’s gaze flicked up to his face. “I don’t know who ‘they’ are but I promise I will do everything in my power to make sure they don’t get you. You’re clearly not what they say, and anyone who would hurt a child is not the good guy in this story.”
“Who are they?” Tim asked with an expression that promised swift and vicious retribution.
Danny took another deep breath. “The GIW, the Ghost Investigation Ward. They’re a government agency, they’ve been hunting in my hometown for a while. Early on we tried to call the Justice Legue, but I think they were jamming the lines or something,” Danny said looking down and biting his lip.
Fuck this poor kid really couldn’t catch a break! Bruce was sure that the ‘ghosts’ these idiots were hunting weren’t really anything of the sort, but he would look into this and see what he could find. Tim was clearly itching to as well bad he wasn’t willing to leave Danny alone with Bruce, good lad.
“And what about your parents? Do you think you could be safely returned to their home?” Bruce asked, as much as he wanted to keep Danny reunification was supposed to be the goal of fostering.
“No!” Danny nearly yelped sitting up straight. “No! They work for the GIW! They design most of their weapons. If they ever found I’d been contaminated- I don’t want to think the worst of them but even if they still recognized me as their son the babies-“ He cut off, wrapping both his arms around his stomach and curling in on himself.
“Okay, we’ll call child protective services, my lawyer, and the Justice League. We’ll get to the bottom of this,” Bruce promised Danny. “And you can stay here as long as you need to. Is there any other family you would want to go to?” Bruce asked, just to be sure, but he wasn’t surprised when Danny shook his head and grabbed a pillow to hug.
“And I know Oracle and Red Robin will be itching to find out more about this ‘government agency’,” Tim said. “I want to go tell them Danny, if Bruce and I go will you be okay on your own or do you want me to ask Cas to come stay with you?”
“Cas please? If she’s not busy?” Danny asked uncertainly and Tim nodded. Bruce was getting up before Danny spoke up again. “I have a sister, Jazz. She knows about me not being fully human, but not about the babies. She’s a good person, and she’s almost an adult. I don’t know, I just need you to know she’s good, and I don’t want to mess things up for her,” Danny said worriedly.
“Of course Danny, thanks for letting me know,” Bruce said with a smile already making plans to get her out as well. “We’ll let you know as soon as there are developments.” He promised before both he and Tim ducked out. They split up, Tim going to find Cas and ask her to go back to Danny before they reconvened in the bat cave, they had a lot of research to do.

This post inspired me to think about secret identity logistics and I think Cass being so cavalier with her secret identity would actually help. Like, it makes the rest of the family's secret identities better because Cassandra Cain is obviously Blackbat/Batgirl. By contrast they would look even more civilian and if someone is not going to realize their kid is a vigilante is Brucie Wayne.
"But wouldn't they connect the dots to the rest of the family?" Listen, If those were bats they'd simply get out of the kidnappings and hostage situations they get themselves into like Cassandra. The fact that they always need to be saved proves they're, indeed, civilians.
Also, I doubt the math would math unless you knew very specific internal things to connect each vigilante to their civilian identity. Brucie is, for starters, as civilian as can get and thanks to the Mandela effect everyone is convinced that he was caught on camera making out with Batman anyways. So that's a non-starter.
Dick Grayson is trying to be a regular person, so the public would know he exists and comes back to important things but he's mostly out of the public eye. Plus, he's a police officer, why would anyone assume he's in kahoots with his little sister that was adopted after he'd already left Gotham?? And when he came back to Gotham for a while to take care of things for his father, is not like there was a new vigilante. It was still batman and Robin (the Robin was new, but Dick Grayson is an adult so, not likely).
Then we get to the big one: Jason is legally dead. You can't assign him any vigilante because he's mmm super dead. I'm sure there's a true crime podcaster trying to argue that he was the second robin and died doing robin shit, that's why Batman and Bruce broke up. But even if it's compelling, it's also considered in really bad taste. Also, can't be tied to Cassandra because she arrived after his death.
Tim gets a similar reaction to Brucie in the sense that there's no way he is a vigilante. He's the immunocompromised Twink from Forbes "30 under 30". He's literally physically incapable of being a super hero due to both a lack of Muscles and a lack of time. That boy has to run an entire massive money making machine and, for all gothamites know, he may very well be asthmatic as well. Plus, he gets kidnapped like crazy. If he was a hero he would at least now how to avoid being put in those situations. They suspect he's covering for Cass though, since he's smart enough to realize his sister is freaking Batgirl.
This means that even if Cass is Batgirl they can't really trace Batman, Nightwing, Red Robin or Red hood back to the family (not to speak of Batwoman, Catwoman, Huntress, Batgirl a 1 and 2, Oracle or spoiler). So at this point why would you even try to connect the others? Clearly Cass is the exception, not the rule.
Like, sure, Duke did survive the Riddler ruling Gotham and if you put some effort, it wouldn't be impossible to tie him to the We Are Robin movement. But also ...is it because he's black? Is it because he's the only black person from Gotham you know of?? His sister is a vigilante, and he is black, so he must be the black vigilante of course (He would be the one making this comments in social media through his sock puppet accounts and the True Crime/conspiracy communities would be too scared to touch that one with a ten foot pole)
Damian is another one where I think Bruce would do what he can to protect him from the press (partially for his own good and partially because he's the opposite of media trained). Most of the info the tabloids would get is from people tangentially related to him. Like, sure, he does look a bit like the new robin, and his sister is Batgirl. But, unless you're one of the people claiming he's the lovechild of Bruce Wayne and Batman (test tube baby??? Batman trans???) it wouldn't make a lot of sense now, would it?
Like Cass is so fucking weird compared to the rest of her family's civilian identities it makes them look rock solid by comparison.

Note
I would like a story where Damian becomes extremely protective of his wife and child after a dangerous event occurs.
i looooove writing about this kind of stuff! let’s say this is kind of an utopia but it could still happen, okay?
anyway
damian priest x reader
‼️angst and fluff
Tumblr media
wrong house
your life was perfect.
perfect like in one of those romantic comedy.
you had a loving husband, a beautiful daughter and a big house like you dreamed about when you were a kid. a huge living room, plenty of space for your daughter to run and play, a backyard pool and the classic white picket fence. you were in a nice and wealthy neighbourhood, surrounded by lots of parks and kind people.
what more could you ask for?
a couple of blocks away from your neighbourhood there’s been a few robberies, nothing major, just some teens thinking it was fun scaring old people, but police officers told you multiple times that you didn’t have to worry about it, that they have it handle it.
damian wasn’t so sure about it tho.
he made everything in his power to provide you with a beautiful house, a nice neighbourhood so you could feel safe when he was travelling for work so the idea of having teens breaking into people’s homes late at night made him shiver, especially when he thought about you and your daughter.
“are you sure it’s okay? i can come home early…you know it’s not a problem mi amor” he said through the phone.
“dam…” you said laughing “everything been calm for over three weeks, we’ll be okay…”
“i know it’s just…you know how i get when i’m not home, i’m only thirty minutes away from you and in case anything happens you give me a call okay?”
“i promise you dam…go back to training” you said laughing again.
“i will, tell maya that i love her okay? and that i miss her so much and that i will crush her with hugs and kisses once i come back home” he said smiling, thinking about his two years old daughter.
“i will i promise…go back to training, we’ll see you in a couple of hours…” you said giving him a kiss through your phone and hanging up.
you smiled watching your daughter being completely invested in the cartoon she was watching.
the evening went on normally.
you and maya had dinner together, you got her ready for the night but as usual she didn’t want to go to bed without having a goodnight kiss from her father, so, instead of going to bed, you spent the early night together, watching some cartoons and eating popcorn.
you watched the time and you knew damian would be back in an hour so you took a few seconds to close your eyes and relax a bit.
non even a minute passed that you heard some weird noise coming from the back door.
you knew for sure that damian wasn’t back, you didn’t hear the car and even if he was, you knew he never used the back door, so what was going on?
then you heard them, two, maybe three voices talking softly. saying how hard it was to open your door and that maybe they should go to another house. you prayed that they would let you alone but when you heard the click sound of the door opening you realised it was too late.
you grabbed maya into your arms and pulled her towards your chest. moving fast to the bedroom, you locked yourself in, and then you locked yourself into the bathroom, hiding maya behind you in the tub.
you knew you should have called the police, you knew that but the first person that came to your mind was damian.
you didn’t know what was going on, and if something bad was going to happen you wanted to hear damian’s voice one last time.
“please…” you whispered, waiting to hear his voice.
your hands were shaking and even if you were crying, you were praying no one would be able to hear you from downstairs.
“hey love” he answered.
“dam?” your voice broke.
“hermosa…what’s going on?” he asked, alarmed by the sound of your voice.
“dam they’re here…”
“who?” he knew who, he just didn’t want it to be real.
“someone’s in the house…dam, they’re in the kitchen, looking for something i guess, i’m in the bathroom with maya, we’re locked in…i know they never hurt anyone, they’re just kids but…damian i’m so scared, i don’t want anything to happen to maya” you broke down, trying to muffle your cries.
“listen to me amor, i’m coming back home right now okay?” he said and you hummed “you’re on the speaker, finn is with me and he’s calling the police right now, you stay at the phone with me okay?”
he didn’t know how he was able to remain so calm. in reality he was freaking out, just the thought of you and maya being in danger made his blood boil.
“is maya okay?” he asked.
“she’s okay, she’s scared too but she’s okay” you said, looking at your daughter’s face. she was confused and definitely scared but still she didn’t know what was going on.
“are you okay love? i’m coming back home, right now..you stay at the phone with me okay?”
“okay…” you said.
you hear the noise from downstairs growing closer to you, they were in the living room right now. you were lucky your house was big enough that you had the time to hide.
“damian they’re closer…i can hear them… i’m so scared…”
“i know princesa i know….keep holding on for me okay…i’m driving as fast as possible, keep holding on”
“i love you so much damian…so so much”
“don’t say that like it’s the last time you’ll say this…” damian’s heart broke, he couldn’t imagine how scared you must have been “i love you so much mi amor and i’m not going anywhere, ill stay at the phone with you, finn just told me the police is on their way…”
“okay…” you whispered.
damian kept talking to you but you stopped him when you heard the sirens ringing.
“police is here…” you whispered letting damian know about it.
you heard them breaking down the front door. you heard them chasing the kids around your house and you heard them calling your name.
you waited until they found you. they were police but you didn’t trust them enough to come out yet, you didn’t feel safe. the only place where you always felt safe was between damian’s arms and you couldn’t wait for him to be back.
you and your daughter were brought downstairs. you didn’t care about the broken furnitures, not when something worse could have happened.
damian ran into the house, fighting off police officers who told him to stay outside.
“my wife and my daughter are inside!” you heard him screaming, shoving past one officer.
“dam…” you said, tears running down your face.
“hey…” he whispered hugging you tight. maya was watching the whole scene with a confused smile. she was just a kid, too young to understand what was going on. one police officer was sat next to her, while you couldn’t let go of damian’s embrace.
“i was so scared…”
“i know mi amor, i know…everything is over now, you’re safe, you and maya are safe…” he kept repeating, more to himself, because he couldn’t describe how terrified he was when you told him someone broke into your house.
“i’m so glad she’s okay…i would have fought with all my life if something happened….”
“i know hermosa…she’s so lucky to have you as her mom, i’m so glad to call you my wife…and i’m so happy to see you both here alive, i’m so sorry i wasn’t here”
“damian, it’s not your fault” you said before he could blame himself “you’re here now and it’s all that matters”
“i love you so much…and you too maya” he said moving to bring her up in his arms.
she was just happy to see his daddy smiling at her.
“missed you” she said with her soft voice that always made your heart smile.
“i missed you too princess…and i’m not going anywhere for a long time” he said kissing her head “daddy is gonna stay here with you”
she seemed happy with his decision and so were you.
it was kinda selfish taking him away from his work but he knew that you wouldn’t trust yourself to be home alone for some time now and he didn’t want to leave you alone, never.

[Damian, recently drugged by Scarecrow's gas —NOT FEAR GAS— but JUST gas. That's what scared everyone THE MOST]
Pennyworth : [Is serving some cold water for his Young Master, aware Damian prefers it chill, but a bit cautiously knowing his current predicament] Young Master Damian, water with exactly 3 ice cubes-
Damian : [Very much not paying attention, just spacing out and fiddling with his bandages] The COLD doesn't exist, it is a mere concept society made to conquer HEAT's absence.
Pennyworth : Ah... Yes, Young Master Damian.
___
Bruce : [Is standing by Damian's room, wanting to ask questions, mostly about what he's feeling regarding Scarecrow's latest concoction] Damian? Can I enter?
Damian : Of course you can enter, Father.
Bruce : Thank you, Damian. [About to step in—]
Damian : But may you?
Bruce :... Ah. I see.
[The BatKids, just right behind him snickering in amusement]
Jason : *Whispering* Whoop-Whoop! The Grammar Police! [Laughing]
Dick : Well... He is right, Bruce. Because, you can but may you?
Tim : He reminds me of Mrs. Smith.
___
[It was early morning, and Tim was already awake, lounging on a chair while waiting for breakfast. But he wasn't aware he had company]
Tim : [Texting on his phone]
Damian : You look like a ladybug.
Tim : AH!- Oh, Damian... Whew, it's just you. [ Is scared out of his wits, almost hitting Damian with his phone as a reflex]
Damian : That should be scarier.
Tim :... True.
___
Tim : Hey... Damian? [He called after breakfast was done]
Damian : What.
Tim : [Tentatively] What did you mean... By me looking like a ladybug?
Damian : I am not sure as to why I've called you a ladybug, you just reminded me of one. Do you want to see my sketches of you as a ladybug?
Tim :... You made sketches of me?
Damian : Hm. [Just shrugged his shoulders, wanting to go back to his room]
Tim : I... I would like to, to see. That is. Yes.
Damian : Then follow, Drake.
___
Jason : What is happening to him? [Is motioning to Damian hanging out with Tim, very, very surprised seeing and hearing not one single fight]
Dick : I don't know, Jay-Jay, but I'm warming up to it!
Jason :...
Dick :...
Jason : The gas?
Dick : The gas.
___
Dick : Hey, Baby Bat! Whatchu' doing? [All sunshine and rainbows, sparkly, while leaning over Damian's frame]
Damian : I'm drawing you as DiscoWing.
Dick : Oh, Baby Ba—! [Tearing up with emotion—]
Jason : NO! [Actually LAUNCHED himself at Dick before he was about to even suggest a resurrection of his past version of Nightwing]
Tim : Damian. No.
Damian : Damian. Yes.
___
Damian : [With Barbara, Cassandra, Stephanie, and Duke— Having a Spa Day] You all are quite good company.
Duke : Thanks, Lil' D!
Stephanie : I know, right?! I always wonder why Tim and Co. never accept my invitations to unwind and relax after a SERIOUSLY so rough patrol—
Barbara : You didn't give an invite, Steph.
Stephanie : Oh, shush! Hmph, so what if I want to keep Damian all to myself?! He's such a cutie-pie when gassed!
Barbara : [Is shaking her head in fondness] I'm sorry about her, Damian. She's quite insensitive.
Damian : I don't mind.
___
Cassandra : Healed?
Damian : Since I woke up. The gas was a mere anesthesia.
Cassandra : Cunning. :]
Damian : Thank you.

Beyond | Terry McGinnis x Batsis with Batman
Synopsis:  Bruce Wayne has retired as Batman leaving Gotham in the hands of the Police, and young heroes to keep her safe, but with Batman gone criminals are no longer scared, and crime rate has increased. Just as Bruce has lost all hope, Terry McGinnis arrives at the scene.
NOTE: I refuse to believe that the epilogue of Justice League Unlimited exists. I prefer Terry McGinnis being simply Terry McGinnis and NOT Bruce Wayne’s son. That epilogue ruined everything about Batman Beyond. You don’t have to be a Wayne to be Batman! Bruce became Batman because it was his choice and he had a purpose, it has nothing to do with blood. So, for this story, Terry is NOT blood-related to the Waynes in any way.
Tumblr media
It has been five years since he wore the cowl. Five years after he had that one night he thought he was dead with the last thing he would see was a low-life scum and not his family. His beautiful wife and his amazing daughter. Five years since he had to resort to using a gun to strike fear into his enemies. No more. Never again. Since then he hung the cowl, closed the cave, and finally accepted his wife’s gift – a watch. A gift given for retirement. Since then he would wear that watch all the time to remind him of why he needed to stop being Batman.
Time was always the enemy. With time comes age, and with age are illnesses and the deterioration of the body.
Many of his comrades have gone – Leslie has died long before, Jim Gordon as well, due to a heart attack while in his office), Alfred has died in the most tragic death doing one last heroic thing for his family: saving Valerie from a gun-fire.
Valerie was there to witness everything and see the life leave Alfred’s eyes as he succumbed to his injuries. They found her on the ground, behind the vehicle they used for cover, holding her grandfather’s body and refusing to let go.
Worse of all, at that same year, she almost lost her father too because he was too damn stubborn to admit that he was no longer in his prime. That he was now an old man who depends on his technology to support his aging body and all the ailments he keeps from his wife (unsuccessfully keeping from his wife, he’s just too damn stubborn to admit it).
“What’s it going to take for you to understand that enough is enough, Bruce?” Vivian said as she sat beside her husband who laid in his hospital bed. Tears falling from her eyes at the scare they got.
Their family gathered in the room — Damian–who was his doctor–listening to him with a disappointed look, then there were Tim, Jason, Dick, and Cassandra. And Valerie. Sweet Valerie, who just witnessed her grandfather die in her arms, was standing by her father’s side with an unreadable look on her face.
“Viv,” Bruce spoke. He reached out to his wife and took her hand. “My love,” he called for her again when she wouldn't look at him, this time she turned to meet his tearful eyes. “You can take out the watch.”
“Bruce, are you sure?” Tim asked.
“I’m sure… it’s time. It’s long overdue,” Bruce turned to his daughter and reached out for her. With his arm open, Valerie joined her father and laid beside him so she could hold him tight. “I should have retired the moment you were born. I am so sorry for missing out on so many things… and for scaring you like that.”
“I’m just glad you’re alive,” Valerie whispered.
“It’s official,” Dick began. “The Batman’s done.”
As soon as he was discharged, he went back to the cave to put away his latest suit, lining it up with the rest. From his very first one, to the latest ones lined with kevlar and a heavy cape for gliding, a transmitter cowl; then to the Robins’ uniforms from Dick and Jason’s original uniforms, to Tim’s, Stephanie and Damian’s. Then there was Nightwing’s line up, along with Red Hood’s, Red Robin, Orphan, Batgirl, Spoiler, the Phoenix… and the red cowl and cloak that gained the name Red Bat by Gotham’s broadcasting network during their short-lived reign over Gotham.
He closed it all, shutting down the power, locking away the life he’s lived and turning the fortress to a museum that no one can ever see or know.
He spent most of his time with his family and running Wayne Enterprises with his wife who was now the Head of the Wayne Foundation. Vivian still works part-time at the university and does research, but most of her work is now with the Wayne Foundation, wanting to help more people. She joked that teaching was her calling and passion job, and philanthropy was her retirement job.
The time he spends with his daughter were ones he cherished. In the morning, the three of them would wake to start on their chores. While Vivian would start on breakfast, the two of them would be at the garden, tending to the flowers at Helena’s grave. Then he would drive her to school – he was insistent in doing so – before going to work. When at home they would dine as a family and spend time as a family.
But whenever he would hear or see the news about the rising crime rates in Gotham, Bruce couldn’t help but feel defeated. He has lost in this war. In the war he has waged against crime in Gotham. And when he would be somber, Vivian and Valerie would try to get his mind off of it or talk to him.
This was the truth of Gotham, he would tell himself and them. No matter how much I fight, Batman cannot change its people. The people themselves refuse, and those who do, know better than to stay here. Gotham is a test through fire. Gotham was and is purgatory.
~*~
Vivian was on her way home, driving on the bridge when he spoke to her a couple of minutes ago, and there was a group of punks who call themselves the Jokerz terrorizing a kid who crashed at his gate. Checking at his phone, he monitored the GPS icons of his wife and daughter to see where they were. Vivian was almost to the mainland, Valerie was just about to leave Gotham University.
He wasn’t going to let them walk into this, nor was he going to let them walk into his property too… and there was the kid.
Walking down the path that leads to the gate, Bruce made the sound of his cane prominent in each step he took, informing the gargoyle that guarded the manor of his arrival and to stand guard but not engage. Greg the Gargoyle has made himself a permanent guard of the manor ever since he’s reached a certain age, vowing to protect the state and its masters.
“Let’s carve a smile on this punk!” One of the Jokerz called out to his group.
Another tap.
Gregory opened the gates of the manor, startling the teenagers and the punks.
As they wondered in fear, Bruce made himself known: “Leave him alone. Get off my property. You’re trespassing!”
“Stand back, old man!” The teenager got up and tried to cover him.
A young man with a good heart, he thought.
“Aw, is that right?” One of the Jokerz taunted him.
“It’s okay, old man, I got this,” said the teenager.
Bruce walked past him to face the group and one of them, the one who wore the Joker mask, grabbed him by his shirt.
“Who do you think you are, old man? We’re the Jokerz!”
Bruce smirked. “Sure you are.”
When Joker-face tried to punch him, Bruce easily evaded and whacked him thrice with his cane until he was knocked down to the ground. Then the others engaged, trying to stab him with knives and hit him with bats but they were no match for him. He was Batman after all. An easy fight, and he was glad to see that he still got it –
Pain surged through his body.
His heart.
Clutching his chest, Bruce fell to the ground as he had another heart attack. No, he can’t. He needs to make sure his girls get home safe. That Vivian and Val were safe.
He wasn’t sure what happened but the next he saw was the teenage boy running to his side, the sight of Valerie appearing out of thin air and running to his side.
“Dad! Dad!” She skidded on the ground.
“Val,” he grasped her hand.
Valerie placed a hand on his heart and tried to help him. “Dad, please don’t. Please, stay with me. Please,” she muttered as she helped heal him.
I’m not going anywhere, Val, he thought. Not unil I know you’re safe.
~*~
“Go out now and you might find yourself in their trap,” the girl with black hair told him. “Stay. Wait for a couple of hours until you are bore out of your mind, then wait for another hour, then and only then do you leave. Better yet, stay and leave in the morning. There’s no bus here, so I can drive you to Gotham Central.”
He can’t stay the night but he’ll wait. She does have a point. As he waited, Terry started to roam around the manor to figure out who these people are, and then he saw the large portrait in the study. How could he not realize sooner?!
That girl was Valerie Wayne! The only daughter of Bruce Wayne and Vivian Pryor-Wayne.
Then that means the old man was Bruce Wayne!
How the hell did he find himself crashing to the gates of Wayne Manor?
As he pondered about the luck he had to be there – he was sure Wayne was going to make him pay for the dented gate – he heard noise coming from the clock.
A bat was stuck inside the clock.
~*~
She should have kept an eye on Terry McGinnis. After getting her father to bed, Valerie asked Terry to stay for a bit and wait for the coast to be clear before leaving. Crap, she shouldn’t have had him in their home in the first place. But she can’t just let him go to the Jokerz trap – she even informed her mother about the group of punks driving motorcycles that might cross her path heading to Wayne Manor.
Or maybe she should have locked him in the living room until she returned. But that’s not good manners – as her grandfather would say, or her mother, or Dick and Tim. So, she trusted him that he would stay put. But no.
For some strange luck that was not on their side, Terry fucking McGinnis found the clock and walked inside the Cave and found the biggest secret that Gotham hides.
The identity of Batman.
“Geez, no wonder he could fight,” Terry mused, but before he could explore some more, a strong gust of wind pushed him away from the line up of uniforms and was pinned to the walls of the cave. This was no ordinary wind.
And he was right to suspect because from the shadows Valerie Wayne appeared with eyes glowing bright blue, her hand stretched out with her palm facing his direction, and her black hair flying around with the gusts of wind.
“No one ever taught you not to snoop around?” Valerie mused.
“You’re a — you’re a meta-human?” Terry gasped.
“Close enough,” she smirked. “You know, I can’t let you out of this place with you knowing about all of this.”
“Valerie!” Bruce’s voice boomed in the cave.
The sound of her father’s voice had her release Terry from the winds that pinned him to the wall and fall to the ground with a harsh thud.
“Oops,” she muttered.
She did that on purpose.
Bruce walked up to him with a nasty glare and sneered: “Get out!”
 ~*~
Vivian was not expecting to see her husband and daughter in the Batcave after Bruce closed it for good. After receiving the alert on her phone from Bruce’s heart monitor, she sped up in her drive and used a spell to warp realities to have her car jump from the long winding road to the grounds of Wayne Manor. When she got home, she looked around for Bruce, scared to death if something have happened to him and she wasn’t there.
And there was.
If there wasn’t he wouldn’t be in the Cave.
“Bruce!” Vivian ran down the stairs.
“Viv,” Bruce greeted her and before he could ask how she was she tackled him to an embrace.
“What happened? What’s going on?” Vivian turned to her daughter and reached for her hand.
“Someone saw the Cave,” Valerie spoke.
“What?”
“The Jokerz chased a kid all the way to the Estate. I had a minor episode after I…” Bruce trailed off.
“After you what?” Vivian narrowed her gaze at him.
“Nothing I couldn’t handle.”
Valerie scoffed. “Really? If it was nothing, I wouldn’t have had to jump from GU to here, Dad. What if that kid was some punk too?”
“But he wasn’t.”
It was a losing battle. She knew it, and Valerie knew when to just go with what her father says: “He helped me get Dad inside the manor. I told him to stay for a while and wait until we’re sure the Jokerz were gone and I left him for a bit. And he found the clock and the Cave. It’s my fault.”
“Is it something that we should worry about? I can contact Damian,” said Vivian.
“Damian took an oath, Vivian,” Bruce reminded her.
“Then Tim.”
He said nothing on the matter. As of now, Tim was part of Wayne Enterprises’ Board of Directors and is working as the Vice President on Wayne Technologies. Tim can easily track down the boy, Terry McGinnis, and keep an eye on him but Bruce didn’t want to disturb him for this. Besides, while he remains to be Red Robin in certain occasions, Tim has his own life now, a family with Bernard to take care of.
Seeing her father’s lack of response, Valerie said, “I’ll tell them in the group chat. They should know considering Batman has a support system that is the same size and demographic as the Wayne family anyway.”
Before Bruce could protest, Valerie had already hit send and her phone was getting chat notifications nonstop.
“Come on, let’s head upstairs,” Vivian took her husband’s arm and led him back. When she sensed her daughter’s missing footsteps, she turned back and saw Valerie looking at the Red Bat costume on the case. “Val.”
Valerie turned away from the uniforms and ran to join her parents.
~*~
Warren McGinnis was murdered in his home.
The name McGinnis caught Valerie’s attention when Bunny mentioned it during their meet-up lunch dates between Gotham University and Gotham Academy (since Valerie graduated three years early, she’s been going to Gotham University, taking engineering and criminology classes, wanting to wait for Bunny before they apply for Yale, just like their parents). As soon as she got home, she told her father about the news and just as she expected he said nothing about it.
“It has something to do with Powers,” Valerie said.
“What makes you say that?” Damian asked whilst continuing his work in the kitchen, making dinner for everyone in the manor.
“Warren McGinnis was is part of Powers’ team in Powers’ Tech. I remember him in Wayne Tower with Derek Powers when they’re proposing a partnership with Wayne Tech. Tim there was something bad about Powers and didn’t budge.”
“And the fact Father would kill him if he agrees to it. Powers is dirty. His whole company is,” Damian placed a small plate of food for Valerie to taste and keep her occupied while they waited for their mother to come home and for Bruce to come back from his walk with Ace II.  “You still need to work on your detective skills, little sister.”
“I’m working on it,” Valerie said as she ate. “But Damian, someone has to stop him.”
“Who?”
“Powers. You know that he rose to power as soon as Batman disappeared. He took advantage of the fact that the crime rate is rising and the system is total shit – no offense to Barbs.”
“Again. Evidence. I think you’re being too reliant on your magic, Val. You need to work on finding the connections that would lead to the truth. Magic can’t solve everything.”
Valerie frowned as the memory of that moment she held her grandfather’s body, hoping her magic would save him. “You don’t have to remind me.”
Damian sighed and messed with her hair. “Stop thinking about this, Val. It’s not your job. Let Red Robin or Nightwing do it.”
Valerie scoffed. “Nightwing is too busy leading the Titans since the Justice League retired. Red Robin is there with him too. Batwoman’s gone, along with Oracle… Cassandra’s traveling and doing her work wherever she goes. Steph has moved on too. And who knows when Jason’s coming home.”
Damian frowned. “Let them handle it. The best you can do is give them a lead with this theory of yours.”
“Be a bystander, you mean. I find it hypocritical that Dad let you do the hero thing and not me.”
“It wasn’t the life we chose, Val. Dick and Jason were given a chance to have a new life with it. Cassandra and I? We were born into it. We had no choice… it seems it was just Tim who really understood the job from the very beginning,” Damian sat beside his sister and took a piece of the food he made. “The war we were fighting then… to have to wear that mask is not something a kid your age should be doing, I understand that now. Trust me, I was throwing a tantrum like you when I was your age and when I was younger. The life you have now is the one we all worked hard fighting for. We want you to live without ever having to go through what we did.”
“I know.”
“You sure? Looks like you don’t.”
Valerie slumped on her brother’s shoulder and sighed. “I just… I have all of this power, and you guys practically taught me how to fight —”
“For self-defense, Gotham is not a walk in the park.”
“—and you expect me to just watch as Gotham go down like this… all your hard work gone. It’s like you just gave up.”
Damian sighed.
“You can’t save people from themselves, Val,” the sound of their father’s voice had Valerie sit up. Bruce entered the kitchen without making a sound – even when he had a cane – and looked at her with solemnity. “My parents. Your grandparents told me to never give up on Gotham, and I didn’t. I fought all my life until I ended up like this. The truth is you can’t save Gotham from itself. The people here refuse to change. They like how the system is now. And for those who the Batman has inspired and changed, they knew better than to stay here.
“Gotham is a purgatory, and the best way to start again is by leaving it. And the reason why we don’t ever leave… is because we live at that boundary between purgatory and paradise. We get the chance to have luxury but also seeing the suffering of those from afar. Reminding us of human nature.”
“Father,” Damian warned him.
“Your brother is right. The life you have now is the one we wish for all to have, and you know damn well why you can’t wear the cowl. Not after that stunt you pulled.”
Valerie winced and looked away.
“Alright, that’s enough. You made your point,” Damian stood and hid Valerie from their father’s gaze.
Bruce Wayne is a good and loving father, but he can also be cruel with his words. Especially when he wants to prove a point.
“If you have anything on Powers, hand it over to the Commissioner,” Bruce told her. “But that’s it.”
“Yes, Sir,” Valerie muttered. Her response startled Bruce and he started to regret his harsh words to her. But before he could apologize, Valerie got up from her seat and said she was going out for a walk, then exited the kitchen through the backdoor and left. But she didn’t leave exactly, she stayed by the side of the kitchen and listened to what they were going to say.
Damian sighed. “Just as we thought you’d ease it with the harsh words when you had Val. She’s not like the rest of us who can brush it off when you’re being a total asshold. She’s…”
Valerie knew that. She always felt like there was a huge difference between her and her family because they were in the family business and she was…
She was the ideal they have.
She loves them but there are times when she feels so alone.
Bruce narrowed his gaze at his son. “Your sister is strong and has a strong and kind heart, and full of hope.”
“Then why crush that hope with the things you say?”
“Because being too hopeful can also bring danger to her. It would lead to naivety or, worse, create an idealist or an extremist. It’s good that she understands how the world is. She’s stubborn too. Too damn stubborn…”
Damian watched as his father sat down on the seat and sighed deeply. “She still won’t go to Yale?”
“She refuses until Bunny graduates. But I don’t think that’s just the reason why.”
“Falcone and Maroni.”
The leader of the gangs who were partially involved in the death of Alfred Pennyworth.
Bruce nodded.
Valerie had enough eavesdropping and left. Joining her was Ace II and Andromeda — her pet dog — and they did not return until her mother came to get her at Alfred’s grave.
 ~*~
Terry McGinnis had guts. She’ll give him that.
Days after him calling out in their gate comms, asking to see her father, and then claiming that Powers had something to do with his father’s death and the nerve gas he’s been making with Kaznia, she came home to the sight of Ace and Andromeda tied to the gate with one line. She was about to release them when a batarang shot out and cut it. Valerie looked up and saw her father’s figure standing by the window telling her to get inside immediately.
Terry McGinnis has stolen the Batman suit.
“I’ll go after him,” Valerie told her father.
“No,” Bruce flatout said.
“But Dad!”
“I said, no,” Bruce turned away from her and turned on the Batcomputer. The old thing hasn’t been used for a long time now. “McGinnis, can you hear me?”
“Whose that?” Terry’s voice sounded in the speakers of the computer.
“It’s Wayne.”
“How are you –”
“There’s a radio receiver in your cowl. Now, you need to listen to me, McGinnis. I want that suit back and I want it back now.”
Right, a teenager is going to do what he tells them to.
“Now is not a good time.”
“THAT SUIT IS NOT YOURS! YOU HAD NO RIGHT!” Bruce exclaimed.
It was the first time Valerie ever heard him raise his voice outside of the training mat, and it made her flinch.
“Somebody had to do something. You weren’t going to,” said Terry.”
“I’m warning you.”
Through the camera of the suit they could see Terry running from the guards that were chasing him.
“The suit works better even better than I thought it would.”
Valerie smirked at his comment. Walking up to her father’s side, she watched closely at the feed they were getting. “I wouldn’t taunt him, McGinnis. The old man’s not as patient as he used to be.”
Bruce turned to his daughter with a frown and she just shrugged.
Terry chuckled. “Good to hear from you again, Princess.”
“This is for final warning,” Bruce said, but Valerie was sure that was directed at both of them. “This is your last chance. Better take it.”
“No thanks, I’m having too much fun.”
“Fun, huh?”
Bruce pulled up the protective casing of a button and pushed it. Activating whatever it was he programmed in the suit. In the middle of his fight, Terry’s body was paralyzed with Bruce shutting down the suit.
“Dad,” Valerie said as she saw Terry get beaten up and the teenager asking for help. Begging Bruce to release the system override. When he still refuses to move, Valerie was about to push the button to save him but her father grabbed her wrist, muted the comms, and said to her: “This is the first lesson. For the both of you.”
“He's going to die!”
“Until you understand what's at stake. The risks. You can never go out there.”
Valerie glared at her father. “I know perfectly well what's at stake. I saw it, didn't I?”
“I know. But he doesn't.”
They heard the gun cock. Bruce looked at his daughter and released her hand. Valerie pushed the button and unmuted their comms.
“McGinnis, I gave you a break. Now bring that suit back,” said Bruce.
“Love too, but I got these guards all over me,” said Terry.
“There's a broom closet up against that wall. Can you get to it?”
“A broom closet?”
“Do it!”
Terry ran to the door and escaped inside the room. “Now, what? I’m sitting ducks –”
Bruce got up from the seat. “Your turn,” he said to his daughter. “Hurry, he needs your help, Penny.”
“McGinnis,” Valerie took the seat before the Batcomputer. “I’ll open a door for you at the far end of the wall.”
“What door? There’s no door there.”
Opening the map of Powers’ building, Valerie focused at the location where Terry was and focused on the image of the prints and creating a path for him. It was the first time ever used her magic at a long distance. Her magic, as her mother would call it, was mostly technological and reality bending magic. She is able to understand anything with a single touch, can recreate its form by understanding its components. She believes it was her interest in technology and engineering that influenced her magic’s outlet. Her mother had the forces of nature, fire, and life. She had technology and reality.
“Walk past it,” Valerie told Terry.
“What?!”
“Do it!”
“If I walk into a wall…” Terry ran and instead of slamming into a wall, he went past it and was at the other side. “How did you?”
“Now, bring back the suit,” Bruce said at the comms. “If you don’t, I’ll shutdown the suit again. This time, for good.”
“I read up on you, Mr. Wayne. How you lost your folks,” Terry began. “The guy who murdered my dad is in that transport, this is my one chance to nail him.”
Maybe that was what got him. Dick did tell her that Bruce’s way to keep kids like them from joining the wrong crowd was to put them in a colorful costume, spandex, make them fight crime, and find closure.
“The hover pad is at the Northeast Sector,” Bruce gave in. “After that you come back with the suit.”
Terry chuckled. “You got it,” he said and ran to chase the chopper about to leave with the man he was after. Turning the comms on mute for a moment, Bruce told his daughter. Whether it’s a success or not, you open a portal and you bring him back here when you think he’s in danger. Understood?” He said to Valerie.
“Yes, Sir.”
Bruce frowned. “Val…” he began.
“We can talk about it later, we’re still on a mission… and I still need your help,” she turned back on the comms. “Making sure this idiot comes back alive. I don’t want to have to get a corpse out of that suit and bury it somewhere in the estate where the cops won’t find it.”
“Don’t worry, Princess, this idiot isn’t planning on dying in this suit,” Terry spoke.
“Call me that again and I will shut that suit, McGinnis.”
Bruce smirked and leaned on the computer, watching as his daughter and this young man reminded him how it was before.
Terry was able to reach the chopper before it could be airborne but it meant he had to find a way to get in while keeping a strong hold while using one of the gadgets in the suit to open it. Inside, he was about to attach the pilots but when he got to the front, no one was there. Who was manning this flight? The question was answered when the man who murdered his father appeared.
Their fight led to them sending the craft crashing to the water, but as soon as the helicopter touched the surface of the water, Terry felt an arm grab him and pull him through something, and one moment he was in a helicopter about to crash into water, the next he was at the floor of the Batcave.
“What the –” Mr. Fixx began, utterly confused, to find a cave instead of the seafloor. Before he could see more —
WHACK!
Mr. Fixx fell to the ground with a sure concussion after getting hit with a staff. Looking up, Terry found the last person he expected to be wielding it, he was thinking it was Bruce Wayne but it seems everyone in the Wayne family knows how to fight.
“Thanks –” Terry froze when the staff was pointed at his face and at its very end, he saw the high-voltage taser that was threatening to electrocute him.
Valerie smirked. “You’ve had your fun. Now, the suit.”
“And I thought we were getting along well.”
“Wanna join him in the Dreaming?”
“The what — you know what, fine.” Terry got up and removed the suit, leaving him in his underwear and shirt. “Mind if I borrow some clothes?”
Valerie took the suit and handed it to her father. “I can lend you some of my brothers’ old clothes. I’ll leave you two to catch up.” She turned off the taser from the staff and with a push of a button, the thing shrunk to the size of a baton. The last Valerie heard as she went up to the clock was her father telling Terry: “I’ll call in Red Robin and have him take this one to the GCPD. You don’t need to worry about the GCPD making under the table deals. A contact of ours will make sure that does not happen. And Valerie will open a portal for you to head home.”
And that was it.
~*~
Mary McGinnis’ home was a lovely and modest place. After knocking on the woman’s door, the Wayne family was welcomed inside by the woman and excused herself to wake her son. Alone in the living room, Valerie helped her father to sit down, even when could do it on his own, and Vivian sat beside Bruce.
“I’ll do the talking,” said Bruce.
Vivian chuckled. “Worried we might embarrass you in front of your new friend?”
Valerie smirked at her father, and Bruce did not appreciate their teasing.
When Mary said that Terry will be out in a bit, she offered the Waynes some coffee and came back with a tray of black coffee with sugar and milk.
“How old is Valerie?” Mary asked them.
“I’m eighteen,” Valerie answered.
“A few years older than Terry! I guess this is your last year at Gotham Academy, then?”
Seeing how awkward the question was for her, Vivian and Bruce answered it for their daughter. “Valerie graduated three years early from Gotham Academy, she’s now getting a degree in engineering at Gotham University,” said Vivian.
“Is that right? You must be a genius then!”
“After that, she’ll be heading to Yale,” Bruce said, mostly a reminder for his daughter who has been putting off the chance to go to an IV League university.
“I will, just as Bunny graduates,” Valerie muttered.
As they waited, Bruce then told Mary a proposition he had for Terry, one that he and Vivian agreed would be “good” for him. Their small talk got cut short when Terry finally got out of his room.
“Terence, sorry to disturb you at this hour,” Bruce said in a way that was not how Terry knew him to be.
“It’s okay,” Terry shrugged. “You’re Professor Vivian Pryor.”
Vivian got up and shook his hand. “It’s nice to finally meet you, Terrence. Bruce and Val has told me so much about you.”
For a moment, Terry was sure her brown eyes glowed gold for a second there.
“You never told me you knew the Waynes,” said his mother.
“Well, actually…”
“Why, I owe this boy my life. He defended me and my daughter from a bunch of hooligans once,” said Bruce.
The sight of Valerie raising a brow and getting pinched by her mother almost made Terry laugh.
Bruce continued. “I tried to repay him but he absolutely refused.”
“Mr. Wayne wants to offer you a job,” said Mary.
“I find that in my old age, I can use a part-time assistant. With my wife working more at the Wayne Foundation, and my daughter at university –”
What?! Terry turned to Valerie in disbelief. But she looks like to be the same age as him!
“–I could use a part-time assistant. A goffer. Go-for-this, go-for-that. An ally as it were. Would you be interested?”
“Of course, he would!” said Mary. “It would be wonderful to work for someone as famous as Mr. Wayne.”
“Does it include driving the Princess to her classes?” Terry joked.
Valerie glared at him and his mother chastised him for it.
“I drive on my own,” said Valerie.
“You’re my part-time assistant. And Val doesn’t like having one. She never liked it whenever we would hand her to a babysitter then,” Bruce said, to ease the tension.
“Alright. Yeah, I’d take it,” said Terry.
“I warn you, I can be a difficult task master,” Bruce got up. “I expect nothing short but excellence from all who work from me.”
Vivian got up as well and added, “I’ll make sure he doesn’t take it too far. You’re still young and have a lot to learn.”
“I think I can handle it,” said Terry.
“Very good, Mr. McGinnis,” Bruce shook his hand. “Welcome to our world.”
~ Extra Ending ~
The knock on her bedroom door pulled Valerie from her work. Turning from her desk, she saw her father standing by the doorframe, like a vampire waiting for her to let him in. And like a vampire, indeed, he only stepped in when she gestured for him to enter.
“Need something?” Valerie asked.
“Yes… I simply want to talk,” Bruce sat on her bed and patted on the space beside him so she can join him there. Valerie left her desk to join her father, and waited for what he has to say. “Ever since I retired from being Batman… I know that I’ve changed. I became cold and full of frustration, and I would lash it out on those around me, and sometimes it’s you who gets it. Your mother called me out for it many times and yet she still stays at my side. Patient and understanding… and you have been patient too, my dear, and because of that, I am so sorry.”
“I understand why you’re like that. For almost thirty-five years you were Batman, you had a mission. You had hope, and suddenly something like that happened… then all the work you did is just going back to the very start. What you said is true, though. It’s Gotham who won’t change, and it will always need a Batman.
“And I think with you having McGinnis here as Batman would warm you up a bit. You would smile more, like you always do before.”
Seeing the sadness in her eyes, Bruce took his daughter by her cheek and had her look at him. “McGinnis has his strengths, and you have yours. Things changed between us since I retired but what hasn't changed is how much I love you, Val, and how proud I am to have you as my daughter… this is just your father turning to a senile old man.”
Valerie laughed and brought her father to an embrace. “I missed you, Da.”
Bruce smiled to hear the old way she would call him and held his daughter tight. “We’ll be fine, I promise.”
Releasing her from the embrace, Bruce placed a kiss on her forehead and got up, bring his daughter with him. “Your mother is in the kitchen making Jason’s favorite.”
“Jay’s coming home?”
“Only to visit, then he’s heading out again. Vivian mentioned that his leg was hurting more now, and he needs another session with her healing. But your mother has called Damian to come and check it out too, Jason’s just stubborn to turn to Damian for help sometimes.”
“Poor, Jay,” Valerie laughed.
“While we wait, mind helping me with the upgrades of the Cave, and to set up a training regimen for Terry? He has the will to be Batman, but he’s still not as good as a fighter.”
“Permission to kick his ass, Dad?”
Bruce laughed. “Granted, Penny.”

Noah: Where's Julie?
Vivian: Noah, this is a school. Someone like you can't be here.
Noah: Just tell me where Julie is and I'll go. She's not staying with you anymore, right?
Vivian: Like I'd tell you.
Noah: You're not going to tell me where my own wife and son are?
Vivian: No, I'm not. Now leave before I have to call the police, and we both know why you won't want that after all the shit you've pulled. Julie might be trying to protect you, but I sure as fuck won't.

Noah: Fine, I'll find her myself.

Julian: Hello?
Vivian: Hey Julie, it's me. Are you alone?
Julian: Kind of. I have Jaspy with me. What's up?
Vivian: It's Noah. He just came to the school looking for you.
Julian: What did he want?
Vivian: He didn't say.
Julian: I need to talk to him.
Vivian: No, you don't. He was totally hostile. Let the lawyers handle everything.
Julian: I need to do this for my own sanity, and we both know I'm gonna do it no matter what you say.
Vivian: For once, can you not be so stubborn?
Vivian: *Sigh*
Vivian: Fine. Let me come with you.
Julian: No, you'll just scare him off.
Vivian: Someone needs to be there in case he tries something. If not me, then Damian. Someone.
Julian: Fine.

Bats on the road 2
Cass: mamma mia, here we go again, my my~
Whoever's riding with her: *scared shitless, because she do not care about the law, and anytime she sees someone on the road or even close to it, she'll brake so rapid the car is going to flip*
Steph: oh my god, Tim, you're sooooo boring. Put on some music! Speed up!
But also:
Steph: shut the fuck up! Don't tell me what to do! You literally doesn't have a license, Tim!
Duke: yeah, no. I actually could make a license, I'm old enough now, but I was driving without it already for like 3 years. It's not like police could even catch me if they tried.
Duke don't know what the road signs means. He knows the stop sign and like three others. The rest he interprets as he rides.
Damian: *can't reach the pedals*
Alfred *driving perfectly*: oh yeah. I taught Master Bruce how to drive. If he's Batman, he needs to be fast.
They don't know he's got a loooong criminal record back in UK

You've vaguely mentioned Eli's life pre-bullet to the head before so I was wondering, is there any part of his old life that's liable to come back to haunt him eventually? Ex partners, old debts, stuff like that?
if anyone it'd most likely be his ex partner, who i frankly have not developed very much under the guise of "many of eli's memories from Before He Was Shot In The Head has been muddled resulting in a return to his bolder personality from when he was younger". he's got a name like damian, or ethan, or nathan (eli genuinely can't remember so neither will i!!!!)
anyway very long post about what happened pre-new vegas and what may come back to bite him in the ass that got away with me under the cut. SORRY IT'S SO LONG!!!
Tumblr media
eli only remembers bits and pieces of this, but the essential bullet points of that mess is as follows:
eli gets into a travelling caravan that wants to see more of the world outside of shady sands. the caravan's leader is damian/ethan/nathan/gathan/kathan. he is very charming and very lovely to eli, as are the other people in the caravan (~about 7-8 people large, with 2 brahmin.)
he decides this is an excellent opportunity to pick up being a mailman to earn some caps along the road in addition to being the caravan's travelling engineer/repairman.
they make a happy bunch, taking on non-violent freelance work such as scavenging, repairs, ranching, trading, transport... making a good amount of caps for necessities and a treat or two. they get along, and eli is more and more charmed under the arm of dathan/iathan/rathan, and eventually confesses to him, much to the guy's delight and they start a Thing that eli is too scared to put a label on for fear of being booted out of the group by Creating Drama
they travel into utah and arizona.
-than is very hot and cold with eli; one second he'll be nudging shoulders with him and telling him sweet things, and the next he's yelling at eli for being too much of a burden because of his leg. (this is where eli gets very good at maintaining his leg brace.)
as they travel in utah and arizona the idea of becoming a caesar's legion protected caravan grows teeth in -than: there's more than enough work and it's no surprise that CL caravans are well protected and reap various benefits that simply don't come with being freelance.
while resting for the night sometime they're approached by a CL scouting squad and the leader has a drink with -than. obviously a recruitment effort, and it solidifies the idea for -than - but the scouting leader requires a buy-in or offer for caesar of some kind, caps, a valuable invention, or (you guessed it!) a pretty slave.
and boy, isn't eli just the prettiest thing?
so they start to travel together towards a bigger legion camp, but the CL scout doesn't exactly keep this deal under wraps, and espouses to eli the wonders of being a slave under caesar's legion. he could have such a wonderful life being his, not having to worry where he slept, when his next meal is, hell, not having to think at all! wouldn't that be wonderful?
eli escapes that mess the very next night. being small and quiet's always had its disadvantages, but not that night.
eli ends up escaping to the nearest town without a CL flag and pays what he can to another caravan to bring him along, that he can fix things real good and pay them a little more from his paycheck from the mojave express.
he manages his way back to shady sands to his sister camille, who's working as part of the local police force (still under NCR?) in the city, but the anxiety that -than knows where he might be gets to him and he starts travelling in california again, jumping from caravan to caravan and town to town delivering mail and earning what he can by offering repairs and gun/armour mods.
up until he lands the strange job to new vegas.
so like i said before eli really doesn't remember a lot of this, all he knows 100% is that there was a guy named -than who tried to sell him into the legion in exchange for a caravan contract, and he managed to run away. he gets bits and pieces in dreams that make his heart rate increase by 200% but that's really it. i imagine -than was probably very unhappy he escaped and the big fat paying contract with CL either fell through or he got something subpar, and holds a grudge against the one person who decided not to go along with his plans for once.
and if you made it here thanks for reading!!!!

uh hi i was planning on posting a timjay fic for christmas but uh. that obviously didn't happen, and i have no idea if i'm ever going to finish it now, but it'd be a shame to let it rot in my notes, so. here is my partially finished timjay christmas fic :]
Christmas time always makes Jason astutely aware of just how alone he is. He’s seen the creepy spy camera footage of the Wayne holiday party. Not the one hosted by Brucie Wayne, but the real one, where Dick and Bruce try their damndest to make nice for Damian’s sake, and everyone pulls the Christmas crackers and gets overly excited for the shitty prizes contained within.
They’re always an intimate affair, Bruce, Alfred, Dick, Cass, Damian, and sometimes Tim. Jason feels his own absence deeply when he sees them, but he doubts they do. He won’t ask Bruce if he gets an invite, and he won’t admit it’s because he’s scared to hear the answer. The entire point is moot anyways, considering that even after all of these years he’s been playing nice with the Bats, and he still refuses to set foot in the manor.
He’s sitting on a high rooftop at the edge of Burnley and Newtown on Christmas Eve, watching shoppers and retail employees stumble home while the night shift and partiers take up their place. The city is bustling at this time of night, with street lights flickering and car horns honking. He can almost pretend he’s part of something, even from all the way up above it all.
Just as he’s trying to gear up to start patrol in earnest, a shadow goes flying by two buildings across from him. He watches the figure with mild interest, until it comes into the light and he can make it out to be Red Robin.
Jason wonders what he’s doing out here, sure, crime doesn’t stop for anyone’s birthday, even if that birthday belongs to Jesus himself, but It’s usually on a lesser scale around this time. Typically they can get away with having Jason keep an eye on the city with the help of a police scanner and have everyone else available for backup.
Jason watches as Tim gets closer and closer on each swing, until he lands next to him with a flourish that is found in everyone who has ever held the Robin mantle. Jason shifts slightly so he’s angled towards Tim and asks “What are you doing here Birdy?”
Tim plops down next to him with a big huff, from here Jason can see Tim’s face better. The domino only covers his eyes, and with them hidden he looks younger than he is. It’d drive Tim crazy if he said something about it, if he pointed out how even after all these years protecting the streets, the people probably still think he’s a high schooler, but to do that he’d have to admit he was staring, so he keeps quiet.
“The party was too…” Tim makes a nonsensical gesture with his hand, waving it back and forth and twisting a bit at the wrist “y'know?”
“There are so many” Jason replicates Tim’s motion “that you could be talking about that I honestly have no clue man.” This elicits a chuckle from Tim and seeing him smile, even so minutely, makes Jason realize that he’s quite sure Tim hasn’t done so at all since he landed.
Soon TIm’s shoulders fall once more and he looks down at his boots, one is bouncing along with his knee. He opens his mouth without saying anything a couple of times, little starts and stops of a sentence, until he settles on a simple “It’s been five years since my dad died.” He pauses for a good little while again, fiddling with the seams on his gloves until they’re perfectly aligned. “Christmas and Bruce and just… All of it makes me think about him on a good day, it got to be too much and I… Left.”
Jason takes that in slowly, he can’t say he hasn’t been feeling the same. He knows that Tim holds guilt over his fathers death. Jason can’t quite understand how that feels, except for in the way that everyone who has ever been left alive feels guilty that someone they loved did not. Regardless, he knows it must weigh something horrible on the other man.
What a pair they make. Waiting for Christmas together and yet not. Both alone by a self imposed prison of grief, while the people they love sit happily in front of the glow of the fireplace.
At least the person Tim is mourning is actually dead.
Jason realizes he’s been sitting there a bit too long without saying something so he shuffles a little so he can knock shoulders with Tim.
“I miss my Mom, Catharine that is. Especially around Christmas time. She loved Christmas.”
Tim twists so he can look at him, and the expressive way his lenses widen to stare at him has to be a security risk. “My Dad loved Christmas too. At least in the last few years. He, and I, and Dana would drive out to see the lights every year. Dana hated turkey, said it was always dry and tasteless, but Dad was determined to get her to like it, so we’d all crowd into the kitchen and try to make an actually good turkey. I don’t think Dad liked turkey that much either to be honest.”
Jason’s pretty sure Tim hardly breathed for that whole story. Jason and Tim are friendly to be sure, but Tim rarely if ever speaks up for much more than witty one liners, challenges to air hockey, Mario Kart, or rooftop racing, and mission briefs when it’s him and Jason.
Jason knows Tim has it in him to be chatty. He’s seen him talk Superboy’s ear off about skateboarding and he’s crashed at Dick’s apartment enough times to be used to finding Tim sitting at the kitchen island prattling on about his Wizards & Warlocks games, but that doesn’t usually extend to him.
Even just that short little story, especially about something so personal, feels foreign to Jason. He’d long since given up on anything more than a working friendship with Tim, especially after the less than warm reception Tim gave him when Bruce took him on as Wingman. He doesn’t want to get his hopes up, Tim is clearly lonely and hurting, but he can’t help it.
“Mom and I would rent skates for the evening for the frozen trails in Robinson Park. Have you ever been? They’re so pretty at night.”
When Jason chances a glance over at Tim he finds him smiling at him. He can’t see his eyes but his lips are quirked up minutely at the corners. Jason’s glad he made the right choice there, he didn’t know Tim well enough to say if ‘bond over dead parents’ was an acceptable conversation direction.
“I’ve never been no. I hardly knew how to skate until Bruce taught me.” Tim drums his fingers on the ledge before he adds “Do you want to go? It probably won’t be too busy with how cold it is tonight. You do have skates in your uniform don’t you?”
Jason startles a little, he kind of figured Tim would be on his way soon. He’d either work through his Bruce issues and head back to the manor, or he’d call Superboy and hang out with Young Justice. But he seems pretty settled on hanging with Jason for some reason.
“Uh, sure yeah. I do. We can do that.” Jason’s always thought it would be more practical to have high tech no-slip boot soles instead of extendable skates in their uniforms. Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to axe the design after years of twirling around Mr. Freeze on skates as a child. Stupid Bruce.
the plan from here was that they were going to go skating and then tim would invite jason to spend christmas with him and dana and they'd cook a turkey together <3 but. alas.

I have a Dick Grayson request!
I don't know if you do vigilante s/o but I was wondering if you did could you write how he would react when he finds out that the crazy person jumping off buildings with his alter ego is also his gn s/o? I always find the different takes on the reader finding out about Nightwing but I really want to know what you think his reaction would be?Anyways, this might not be something you'll write but I just figured I'd ask
Lots of love and admiration for you and your works
❤️
A compliment and a Dick grayson ask??omg made my day ( I promise he isn't my favorite I love them all equally)
Ive never really written vigilante reader..or even imagined one but I can try
Dick Grayson x vigilante!s/o
s/n- supername
"There's an armed robbery at the children's hospital on 34th" reported Tim onto the batcom.
"I can get there in 5" replied Dick.
"Take hood with you, he's on 39th " Ordered Batman
"I don't need a babysitter..especially not hood"
"HAHA, Ill be there as soon as I'm done beating up this creep who was cornering pretty girls" Jason says cheekily.
"wait ..I dont think i need you here hood, or even I'm needed..S/n got here first. She's tying up the perps as we speak"
"Unmask her Nightwing, even I couldnt figure out her identity and she has been spotted in too many crimes around gotham" said Oracle
"You can't passible think THE s/n is a criminal" tim replied shocked
"Haha timmy has a thing for s/n just cause she was caught buying rock shirts from the shady stores he loves" Jason teases
" NO REAL NAMES ON THE COMS JASON, also Oracle is right. Best to be precautionary" states Batman.
Nightwing approaches s/n. "OH JEEZ, hi your scared me haha. Not that you're scary. You're really hot , I mean your partner probably finds you hot but not me. I'm just random vigilante...Uh anyways Ive called the police they're on their way so I think my work here is done!" You say hurriedly after spotting your boyf-nightwing approaching you.
"Well good work here s/n. But I actually had to speak to you alone. " "Me? why??"
"I need you to unmask yourself. Batman's orders . You cant trust me, you know I'm one of the good guys and we have been on multiple cases together. Plus you are kind of in my city"
" Well I- dick listen." "How do you -" You take off your mask to reveal yourself.
"I was about to tell you dickie..please don't be mad" "MAD? ME? MY SWEETHEART IS A CRIME FIGHTING ASS KICKING SUPERHERO! I KNEW YOU WERE TOO STRONG TO BE A BARISTA!. I mean I do wish you told me before" "I just didn't know how you would take it. You always talked about how much you loved our domestic intimacy and simplicity in our relationship and i-" Dick takes your hands in his "We can still have that baby, just because you are a superhero doesn't change anything. Youre still the best thing that ever happened to me and now we can even spend more time together as our alter ego. We would be a great power couple!" Says dick, pulling you into a passionate kiss.
"EW EW THE ROMANTIC SPEECH WAS GROSS BUT KISSING NOISES?" Yells jason into the coms
" NO DICK HOW COULD YOU, MY SUPERCRUSH MAN" Cries out tim
"shit i forgot to turn off my comms" whines dick
"NO REAL NAMES ON THE COMS !" Orders Bataman
"Bring her to the manor once you have discussed the - the revelation. There is much to talk about" Says Batman.
"I'm Surprised Y/n is even real" Joins in Damian.
"WHY WOULD I LIE ABOUT HAVING A PARTNER" yells Nightwing into the comms while you try to muffle your laugh.
"Well, I am no one to comment on your mental state NightWing, But it is questionable"
You pull away Dick from the comms before they all start bickering- and giving bruce a headache. Sure there was a lot to discuss but dick is the best batboy to be a vigilante partner to. He would be understanding and non restrictive and the perfect partner in fight. Communication is easy with him and he trusts you and gives you your space to be yourself. After all, its all these things that make him love you for you.
sorry if there is anything offensive i don't usually write gn!reader cuz I'm a cis female and I don't proof read. Also english is not my first language. Lmk if there's anything offensive and ill change it.

you’re a bender in the batfamilypt.2
Blood bender
At first you didn’t want to be adopted you wanted to be by yourself. It was like that since you were born
Your dad killed your mom because he wanted you to follow his steps. Become a blood bender. He told that every 100 years the avatar would appear, what is an avatar? Well according to your dad the avatar was an evil person who would try to destroy the world…..Liar
After you discovered the truth which was until you were 13 years old. He tried to get rid of you. “It doesn’t matter I’ll just get another kid and if he doesn’t do as I say I’ll kill him to!” You were tired… so you killed him, yeah you got used to it by now. But that certain day that you changed orphanages.
“Listen up everyone! Is either you all shut up or you all die!” The joker said laughing loudly. Great you just changed orphanage and you are already in danger. A woman nearby started crying, the joker notices and pointed his gun at her. “Ohhhh someone wants to die today!” The joker said.
You wouldn’t gonna let the poor woman die so… you bended the his blood to puppet him and break his bones. “AAAA WHAT THE HELL!?” Once the Joker was dead you stoped. The police showed up and some men in weird costumes who not gonna lie they looked scary.
After a long time a man in a fancy suit showed up and started talking with the people who runned the place and they were looking at you. You had a bad feeling.
Here were you at a weird guy’s car. “So M/n that’s your name right?” Oh boy… “yeah” Bruce was curious, you weren’t as scared as the other kids were. “How old are you?” “14” “… and how do you feel about… being with a new family?” You knew he wasn’t good at asking questions “I mean I prefer being alone. Which means don’t ever talk to me unless is necessary.”
Bruce knew this was going to be hard. Why did he have to adopt another kid? And one that seems that he hates his life? Yeah no. You two got out of the car or limousine. Either way it wasn’t like he didn’t have both.
“Kids this is M/n, M/n this are my children, Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian.” “Hi” that’s what you said before you bolted upstairs. Jason couldn’t hold himself together. “ well! Another brat!” Jason said before looking at Damian. “Who are you calling brat you-” Dick hold Damian back before he tried to kick Jason. “Guys he’s probably just overwhelmed. He just had an encounter with the joker and he’s probably traumatized. Right?” Jason snarled at Jokers mention. “It doesn’t matter Dick. The joker is dead and I have to find out who killed him.”
“Hey M/n can I come in?” Dick asked outside your door. “Why?” “Just you know hang out to know each other” you opened the door and let him and his brothers inside. “what do you all want” Jason was loosing his patience “ didn’t you hear we want to know you! And help because well no one is the same when they interact with the joker” that last part he didn’t scream. “How do I say this the nicest way possible…umm I prefer being left alone and I’m not interested in talking with any of you.” You said as you left the room
It was like that until Dick started questioning himself if he was a good brother. Damian didn’t like it which meant Jason was gonna join him.
You were knocked out and tied into a chair. When you opened your eyes you were surrounded by two people one adult and the other one looked like a 15 year old.
“Where the fuck am I?” The taller guy grabbed a bat and the smaller one grabbed a knife out of his pocket. “WOW! Dude you said just to scare him!” You recognized that voice. Jason. Damian carefully knocked out Jason.
Damian was so close to cut you with his knife “how dare you hurt my brother!” So close to making the cut and you using your bending abilities the door opened. “Damian stop!” Dick screamed which startled Damian who accidentally crushed his knife into your skin. “AAAAHHHHHHHHH!!” That really hurt. Dick tried to help you but you pushed him away and used blood bending against Damian. “I’m not letting any one hurt me again especially you, you stupid piece of shit!” While Damian twisted and screamed on the ground Dick tried to stop you. “Stop!” You used your own blood to do a cut in his arm. “AAAAH” you ran away. “Tim follow him!” You saw a person in a weird suit running towards you. “ what’s goin on!” Jason said waking up. “There’s no time let’s go!”
You saw a way out a pond. You used your abilities to go under water and then you were gone… no signs of blood nothing. “Where is he!?” “ he is there” they were so worried that they didn’t notice a wave going towards them. “Hey guys…” “not now Jason” Jason tried to tell Dick and Tim but they wouldn’t listen . “ how did you lost him!? Your Red Robin you’re telling me that he outran y you!?” “ it wasn’t as easy as it looked dick he is really fast!” Jason tried to push both of the arguing brothers. “Moveeeee!”
You were runing out of breath. “Shit!” You were bleeding really bad not like it’s new. It’s always been like this…
you’re alone.
—————————————
Hey yall! This is an alternative version of pt 1 where you male reader are a blood bending master. Hope yall like it! 😊

I honestly don't believe that any of the batfam have their driver's licenses except Dick and Alfred.
Bruce: went on his wee batman retreat a few years after the time he should've been going for his license and was way too consumed with angst to do it before then. plus he's rich and Alfred can drive so what does it matter.
Dick: did not get his license for ages cause Bruce honestly forgot it was a thing he should probably encourage his children to get. Finally got it when he joined the police because he can't be illegally driving the police cruiser.
Jason: died at 15 and finally got back to Gotham full of rage at 17. He's reluctantly back in the family at 19 and none of the others have clicked that his drivers license is definitely fake because Jason refuses to be legally resurrected. Jason claims that he's an amazing driver anyways.
Cass: does not care to have a license and frankly does not understand road rules. despite this she gets around very quickly and no one knows how.
Steph: is desperately trying to get her license but no one can give her lessons because her mum's in rehab, Alfred's always busy, and Dick is in Bludhaven. She won't ask Jason because he doesn't know the road rules.
Tim: didn't know licenses were even a thing for wayyyy too long. only drives when he's Red Robin anyways and wouldn't be carrying a civilian license while in costume because that would be the dumbest way to reveal your identity. If he really needs to get somewhere a driver can't go he just calls Kon.
Duke: wants to go for it but is too scared to bring it up. especially when the only cars for him to practice in are WAY too expensive for his inevitable crash
Damian: too young but has definitely tried to convince Bruce to pay someone off to let him take the test

Been re-reading spy x family, which I'd apparently not touched in two years.
Not every shounen can be chainsaw man, but spy x family is still pretty good at holding consistent themes and executing strong tonal shifts. You'll never understand people's hearts, but you should accept that most people believe they're doing the right thing, regardless of how absurdly wrong it is to you. And that war sucks.
Yor's real job doesn't really fit the aesthetic/political vibe of the story. The assassin stuff tends to fall to the wayside as the series goes on, presumably because a) as the series trundles through terrorists and secret police and child-smackers with begrudgingly understandable motives, it gets harder to rationalize Yor's job as just murdering bad people when you know she's not smart enough to discern that for herself - she's literally just following orders - and b) can we be serious and acknowledge her interacting with other ladies leads to far more memorable moments? Melinda, her coworkers, especially that bitch Camila >>> fight-tournament-adjacent murder mission.
Yor is less developed as a character than I remembered. She's more like a sexy sidekick to Loid and Anya than she is a main character. Somehow her brother's background has more depth, which doesn't really make sense
like she's not bad, I like Yor, but after a while I kinda got why commenters became significantly more invested in the romantic development between a six year old and a girl who says shit like this
Tumblr media
27yo assassins who are still scared of kisses can only hold your attention for so long. The hivemind has progressed to shipping themselves with Loid instead.
it's good to read stories with a variety of active old people. The elderly are everywhere in here. I like this.
Soy x family is such a skilled comedy. it's like I'm watching a master brew their craft or something. 10,000 folded steel but except with reaction shots.
They're really dragging their heels in advancing the story. I stopped reading around the time Anya read Damian's mother's mind, which was over two years ago? And they still haven't explained wtf that freakfest was about??
Damian's brother appeared for two pages and I could hear autistic teen girls around the world twirling their hair. Whoever designed him knew what they were doing.
No seriously, star-crossed lovers war flashback between two minor characters? That's what they've been doing while I was gone? Explain mom yandere right now!

Do you think the Wayne family get caught in bludhaven when ever they miss Dick. Like just commit a random but harmless crime until the police send Officer Grayson to spend time with his family.
Bruce goes speeding. Jason will vandalize the police station. Tim will just appear with random objects stolen from the nearest police officer. Cass will also appear and scare everyone and then just follow Dick. Stephanie will cover everything in glitter and somehow replace all the donuts in the police station will celery. Damian will walk around the police station will a small army of strays. Barbra will set up a meeting that will last hours. Duke challenges the nearest officer to a staring contest, he wins and gets paid five dollars every time he wins.
Every member has their own way of getting the polices attention and making Dick spend time with them. They also sometimes switch tactics just to annoy. See Jason breaking every traffic law he can within an hour, it was a bet. Bruce losing multiple staring contests. The less said about Cass’s pranks the better. And multiple batkids somehow managing to convince every shop within bludhaven to not sell donuts to any and all police officers.
If Dock wasn’t such a good cop he would have been fired or transferred forever ago. That and the one time they tried Bruce ended up crying and making a scene for hours, the media had a field day with that.

Would They Have Been Superheroes Without Bruce/The Batfam?
Dick - possibly yes, but not a very good one. He doesn't have great impulse control. He's so angry. (He's ADHD, with all the executive dysfunction issues and emotional regulation problems.) He needed someone to help him build boundaries for himself. He would have created himself a team and a community, but probably would have searched out other teens. I think he'd have a lot of scars from bad decisions and mistakes.
Jason - probably not. Even if he got to a point where his entire focus wasn't survival, young Jason was too much a part of his community. Putting on a mask is a distancing tactic. I can see him helping people when he sees trouble, but joining some sort of outreach program seems more likely than superheroics. He might have joined something like We Are Robin, though!
Babs - She would be doing good. Fighting political corruption, fighting police corruption, working as an information broker - I'm not sure she would have gone for 'superhero' without the Bats (maybe 60/50 odds?), but she was searching for SOME way to change the world. I think vigilantism actually limited her - but it also helped her develop into who she became.
Tim - Very unlikely. Tim would be SUCH a different person without the Bats. And out of everyone, he requires the most things to line up to push him into the spotlight. He doesn't have the same need to do right as most of the others, but he does have a deep sense of responsibility. And a need to be part of something. I think philanthropy was more likely that vigilantism, but I hope he would have found something.
Steph - Definitely. I'm not sure how long she would have lasted. I'm not sure if she could have stayed a good guy if she was on her own - she was SO scared and angry, and had so little training, and making the tough choices requires enough safety and space to think. But most other heroes and teams would have been better for her than the Bats were.
Cass - All she needed was a spark to become a hero. It couldn't have been anyone - they had to show her that helping was possible, and had to carry enough darkness she could see herself in them. It took her until she was 16 to find someone like that. But it definitely didn't NEED to be the Bats.
Damian - It would have been very difficult without the sense of a legacy to live up to. Damian fights against heroism for quite a while. Someone different COULD have taken Dick's place and put in all that work, but it seems unlikely. Like, he's never doing it on his own!
Duke - from what I've picked up about his start, he was going to do something anti-establishment. I think that if there hadn't been a GOOD option, he might have found himself somewhere bad, at least temporarily. But he also has a pretty good head on his shoulders and a strong sense of right and wrong, along with the superpowers ... I can see him becoming a Marvel style teen superhero.
Summary (Saying nothing about non-superheroic world-assisting choices):
Yes - Steph
Probably - Dick, Cass, Duke
Maybe - Babs
Unlikely - Jason, Tim, Damian
