‘tis i, nonbinary transfem tuvok enthusiast and recently i’ve been pondering the dynamic between her and transmasc b’elanna torres…. i love thinking of them having long conversations together about gender and cultural histories and their life paths and mental issues (real)

also tuvok’s quote of “there is nothing wrong in choosing to live” would be such an emotional statement to tell b’elanna who canonically has depression (they just like me fr). anyways these are my thoughts today take care my friend!! <3

I don't personally see Tuvok as being a positive person for B'Elanna to talk to about much of anything personal without like, some sort of change to how they interact with one another since I think he'd both intentionally and unintentionally antagonize her BUT I can absolutely see them looking at each other and feeling the gender envy even before they know what that particular sensation is. Knowing B'Elanna I bet she'd worry she has some kind of weird crush on him hehehe~ Someone starts a group for queer members of the crew to meet but it seems like more of a dating thing and they're all human and no one else is trans so B'Elanna leaves and runs into Tuvok and is like "Oh! I didn't see you in there." because it's common knowledge by this point that Tuvok's trans but Tuvok just does that 'obviously.' look and goes "...No." so B'Elanna leaves her alone but they happen to run into each other next week and the week after and it eventually becomes an unofficial thing and it's a real rollercoaster. It's a real russian roulette of what kind of a time you're gonna have - sometimes it ends in a fight and sometimes it ends in the most insightful realization you'll ever have. tinfoil-encrusted brienne/sansa "foreshadowing" that makes me feral

so i love the blog @jonsaforeshadowing bc i think it's such a fun look at shipper goggles in this fandom regardless of your thoughts on that particular ship. while i do not ship j*nsa i think it's healthy to remember how absurd shipping in asoiaf is even if (especially if?) you are a shipper! largely bc like... what do we even think of as endgame in this series? being married? we know not everyone who marries in a feudal system even likes the person they're married to. also... pretty much anyone could die! and so many characters are thematically linked in significant ways that aren't necessarily romantic! so i think there's a ceiling on how sure anyone can be of any ship being endgame. especially since we may never get another main series book lmfao! so just want to be clear that i'm not coming at this from an angle of knowing better than people who prefer other ships, we are all equally right and wrong unless/until the series is completed IMO.

in that spirit i wanted to post my own niche shipper theories in wildly varying degrees of seriousness about brienne/sansa because i believe in gay ships' right to be as delusional as straight ships. mostly for fun but i'd being lying if i said i don't hope you read this and think "oh i never thought of them together but this eats! i should start shipping the one true pairing briensa and also read tumblr user g0lightly's post-canon fanfic mostly about them on AO3 🤔" while they’re my otp, I want to be clear that I only ship them as adults.

starting strong with the dumbest one: brienne's ancestor dunk has a romance with rohanne webber, a redheaded woman who has had several husbands/betrotheds die on her and eventually marries a lannister like sansa. i know ppl say this is about jaime bc rohanne is his great-grandmother but in the spirit of getting silly with "foreshadowing" jaime is now a sansa stand-in for the purposes of this post 🙂‍↕️

in AGOT sansa i, sansa says that joffrey is "so gallant, she thought. The way he had rescued her from Ser Ilyn and the Hound, why, it was almost like the songs, like the time Serwyn of the Mirror Shield saved the Princess Daeryssa from the giants..." as ned later points out, joffrey is nothing like the knights of the songs sansa dreams of. littlefinger's sigil is a giant. serwyn is one letter off from selwyn, brienne's father's name. perhaps brienne will help sansa get away from littlefinger.

mirroring (ha) the above point, in AFFC brienne vii, randyll tarly gives a whole speech to brienne about how he thinks her father would rather have a living daughter than a "shattered shield." while i think the shattered shield imagery in this text (also in F&B when jaehaerys has saera's lover executed and in ACOK sansa vi when cersei talks about highborn ladies' "golden shield" against SA) represents a "ruined" woman, i think the imagery is also evocative of a mirror shield.

in AGOT sansa vi, sansa reads about aemon the dragonknight, florian and jonquil, lady shella and her rainbow knight. sansa is related to lady shella whent and in ACOK brienne becomes a rainbow knight for renly's kingsguard. i can see brienne mirroring aemon the dragonknight in the sense that she and sansa would have a forbidden love like aemon and naerys but for different reasons.

in ACOK sansa ii, sansa prays for a true knight and a friend to champion her. of course, she gets dontos as her "florian" instead and learns that life is not a song. later in catelyn ii, catelyn meets brienne who later swears herself to bringing sansa to safety. catelyn notes her similarities to sansa. brienne is also connected to jonquil through her maidenpool chapters; does this mean sansa will end up with a jonquil rather than a florian? perhaps a jonquil darke type? idk but i want to believe!

also in ACOK, both brienne and sansa hang onto bloody kingsguard cloaks that were technicaly supposed to belong to barristan selmy. i have written about this in far greater detail here and here.

jaime is a sansa stand-in because they are both maiden-coded and called kingslayers (this is a deeply unserious point btw)

speaking of jaime, his attraction to brienne mirrors sansa's possible attraction to mya. both sansa and jaime are conventionally attractive characters used to being praised for conforming to their gender roles reckoning with the beauty of a gender-nonconforming woman when they have come to understand their own beauty through a conventional framework. i have also written about this in greater detail.

both sansa and brienne are paired up with a lannister twin who holds the gendered societal role they aspire to (queen and knight of the kingsguard, respectively). their respective lannister twins show them the dark reality of those roles while brienne and sansa fight to remain hopeful.

famous lesbian rhaena targaryen was too gay with larissa velaryon so larissa got shipped off to marry the second son of tarth. she also had a favorite from the vale named alayne royce. she also had a red-haired, mail-wearing favorite named melony piper - kind of like an inverse of brienne and sansa visually. her true love, elissa farman, was from fair isle which is kind of like the west coast version of tarth; they also had the same age difference as brienne and sansa. rhaena was the eldest sister, like sansa, and dealt with a lot of loss in her life due in no small part to the strength of her claim making her a sought-after bride. i am aware this proves nothing but i do seriously think rhaena is the in-universe historic figure sansa is most like. gay sansa confirmed!!!!!!!! (jk... unless...)

and finally, i present what is either my most tinfoil hat theory or my oh-shit-i-cracked-the-code theory: brienne is foreshadowed to be the next bearer of the hound's helm so when GRRM said there's "something there" with sansa and the hound, he was actually talking about brienne and sansa :) if you enjoy the idea of sansa finding love and beauty in a brave, gentle, strong protector figure with low self-esteem whose face is covered in scars but you also (very reasonably!) hate the idea of her ending up with a man who held her at knifepoint and tried to SA her when she was a child, may i suggest hound!brienne x sansa? again, on an age appropriate timeline!

and if you're curious what i mean by hound!brienne foreshadowing and shattered shield references, i've included my running list of quotes, an analysis of those quotes, and a conclusion below the cut bc this post is long! TW for canon-typical references to sexual violence.

i think the references to brienne being "the hound with teats" and later references to the hound cutting off women's teats may connect to pretty meris, a sellsword with the windblown who is theorized to represent what GRRM had planned for brienne after the five year skip. quentyn notes that it's said that men cut meris' breasts off. if this hardened sellsword is some version of GRRM's original five year gap plan for brienne, who's to say that she won't be the hound instead of a sellsword in the forthcoming books? but that's assuming we'll get more books lmao.

the threat of SA is uncomfortably present in brienne's AFFC chapters. whether or not brienne experiences the types of gendered violence mentioned above, i think that the hound's helm would provide brienne with safety from that threat of SA on the road. for male characters, on the other hand, it may just draw more attention from people who wish to kill the hound for (mostly) rorge's crimes. there is a lot of talk across the books and across POVs about the hound being dead. you get tyrion describing him as dead after the blackwater when we know that's not true, septon meribald (which kinda sounds like meris now that i think of it 🤔) tells brienne that he is dead, jaime talks a lot with the freys and lannisters about killing the hound. there's also a lot of talk about the hound killing other people, namely brienne and sansa.

since it's all but confirmed that sandor clegane is now the gravedigger on the quiet isle rather than the hound, i think that "death" in the context of the hound is about letting your old self die so that the new you may be born. brienne needs to let her rigid ideals about what it means to be a knight die and sansa needs to let her rigid ideals about what it means to be a lady die. i think that lady's death at least partly symbolizes the fact that sansa can be a perfect lady and still face dire consequences through no fault of her own. and for brienne, she will most likely learn through lady stoneheart that not all oaths can be kept.

some people take the below quote as romantic foreshadowing for sansa and sandor. i take it to mean that to sansa, sandor and his cloak represent the opportunity she had to escape the life of a dutiful lady in a castle. perhaps brienne will wear the hound's helm when she rescues sansa, and sansa will give her the hound's cloak -- brienne's very own kingsguard cloak -- to complete the "uniform" of the hound.

i also want to offer my debunk to the idea that sansa keeping sandor's cloak is marriage imagery. sandor does not give his cloak to sansa, he does not put it over her shoulders as is done in a wedding ceremony. he leaves it on the ground because he does not want to be a member of the kingsguard anymore. sansa chooses to wrap herself in the kingsguard cloak. to me, this signifies her growing disillusionment in the systems set up to keep her safe and the autonomy she has to leave that system. perhaps she will be brave enough to ask brienne to take her away from the eyrie (or wherever she ends up) when they meet (again, assuming we get more books lmao).

i think it's relevant that sandor's place in the kingsguard - and by extension, the cloak as a symbol - had originally belonged to barristan selmy. i did a thread on this in relation to true knighthood and brienne if you're interested in reading more. sansa has a heroic deed in common with barristan selmy that also involves the hound in ACOK: like barristan, she saved dontos hollard from execution by a cruel king that she was sworn to. sansa was sworn to joffrey as his betrothed and barristan was sworn to aerys as a member of his kingsguard. i'm not even anti-sandor, i just don't think that his redemption arc needs to or should include the girl he held at knifepoint falling in romantic love with him.

to conclude with my point about characters having deep ties within the text not necessarily equaling romantic foreshadowing, i want to acknowledge that i don't think brienne and sansa need to have a romantic relationship for these textual connections to be meaningful. one way another i think these two are meant to be important to one another's stories. however i think that putting these two together romantically would be a beautiful way to tie together some key themes (gender, true knighthood, romanticism, idealism) and set up some really interesting character development.

however the romantic in me loves the idea of the aemon the dragonknight figure in sansa's life being a woman, specifically brienne who has sworn to defend her without even knowing her. they're both women, so there's nothing for brienne to gain from sansa's claim and nothing for sansa to gain from brienne's claim. brienne is the gentle, brave, and strong person ned wanted for sansa and catelyn sent her in sansa's direction and i think that's beautiful okay :')

Great question! Prepare for an essay tho hhhh

I played Genshin at launch but got bored quickly and stopped before I even met Keqing or Ganyu. I learned abt their existence thru fanfics, while looking for some wlw fiction to read. “Cornerstone” in particular is a fantastic fic that was being updated at the time. The author put a lot of care and effort into treating those characters seriously, and fleshing them and their dynamic out, which the game generally fails at.

Their dynamic just instantly captivated me. The way they went from being at odds, with their clashing beliefs, to reaching a mutual understanding. To caring abt each other. And it was never just pure hate, but something much more complicated and nuanced.

Back then it was just voicelines abt each other, and both characters had barely any screentime in general, but it was interesting enough of a basis. I started playing again, missed Ganyu's og banner but was lucky to win my 50/50 on Keqing's once-in-a-lifetime limited banner lmao. And the more I learned about them, the more I liked them.

I not only love ganqing, but I also love both characters individually, their personality, story, design, gameplay, they somehow just have everything that’s interesting and appeals to me.

Keqing is the Yuheng of the Qixing, meaning one of the leaders of the country, approved by Rex Lapis. She’s very pro humanity and believes that humans should fare for themselves, rather than rely on the archon. Not many ppl dare to think this, much less say it to Morax's dragon-adeptus face during the rite of descension. So she’s seen as controversial and disrespectful, and Ganyu as a devoted follower who worked closely with Rex Lapis for thousands of years just doesn’t understand Keqing. Rex Lapis absolutely approves of Keqing’s belief, and Ganyu cannot comprehend it no matter how much she respects and trusts him. It’s a very interesting conflict, that eventually gets resolved, giving us the basis of their potential romantic relationship.

Keqing and Ganyu are both very devoted to Liyue, so they’re both similar but also different. They complement each other. Keqing with her modern approach, quick and efficient, straightforward and bold. Ganyu with her old approach, with her opinions and strength hidden, not very straightforward. A confident human who knows what she’s about, and half-qilin that feels lost between the two worlds. But after Morax’s passing, they manage to find understanding, they go thru character development now just in terms of their relationship, but also them individually, and in relation to Morax. They can change each other too. They can learn so much together, from each other. Keqing how to be more patient and deal with uncertainities, while Ganyu how to be bolder, voice her opinions more and just live more for herself.

Ganyu is no longer bound by her contract, but she remains with the humans. She’s working alongside Keqing, in this new human era of Liyue. And while their limited screentime is locked behind time-limited events, it really shows that change, it shows how they care about each other. It shows Keqing’s relations with the adepti and how interesting it is considering her beliefs, and especially with Ganyu’s mother figure.

You could technically just sum them up in popular tropes like “enemies to friends to lovers”, "mortal x immortal" or “opposites attract”, but I think it’s so much deeper than that. I find ganqing's relationship very interesting and unique bc of their personalities, relations with each other and other ppl as well as their country, the setting, their stories, their identities, the conflict and character development they go through.

The game only gives us crumbs, but it also gives so much space and potential for this pairing. It’s never fully explained how it all changed between Ganyu’s voiceline how she started understanding Keqing a little, and their interactions in moonchase/lantern rites, where they’re clearly on very good terms. But I think that’s fine. It gives us freedom to truly flesh them out. Genshin’s storytelling is pretty crappy in the first place lol, so I think it’s cool to just take the interesting ideas, and make something much greater out of it.

i have so many thoughts about ko that i dunno where to exactly begin, so have some lil bullet points <3

has always given off scary dog vibes -- people were always scared to go up to him in high school bc he just has :' ) intense features despite being literally so relaxed and easy-going. he's a softie until he's gotta actually be that scary dog

i'm really soft though bc ko is the kind of person who will make a point to ask more about the stuff you're into. he's not having any of this " oh let me stop talking bc you probably don't want to hear this. " no, he wants to hear it!! tell him about your fictional characters and your favorite constellations and the series you're into and literally everything you enjoy!!

generally, ko tries to be very conscious of the people around him, similar to chiyo, only he doesn't change his personality like she does. he just makes a point to understand what makes them comfortable vs. uncomfortable and acts accordingly.

for example, he won't force himself to be a chatterbox for you, but he'll remain engaged and never make you feel bad for talking his ear off.

is truly such a romantic and isn't embarrassed about it!! the only time he gets a lil embarrassed is when he has to tell someone that he writes romance manga bc 9/10 times, the person is always " what??? that doesn't suit you at all! " and he has to laugh it off

tbh it kinda irks him like :/ can he not enjoy heart-fluttering moments :/ without it seeming weird :/ stop putting expectations on him pls :/

his favorite manga is lovely complex bc he really likes the unlikely pairing of a tall girl and short guy, it made him laugh a lot, and he likes that the couple didn't easily get together. their feelings weren't entirely mutual at first, and they later have some hiccups to work through. it was a fun read while still somewhat realistically portraying romance in his opinion! it's basically the manga that made him want to start writing and drawing his own :' )

his manga also follow that same kind of theme -- plenty of fun moments mixed in with more realistic portrayals of relationships and only the fun cliche tropes/plots like being forced to share a bed. none of this protagonist witnessing a moment between two characters that could be misinterpreted and proceeding to feel hurt when she could've just spoke to her love interest and solved the issue unu

i know i said he's so nice but also i need y'all to know he'll bully you ( lovingly ). if you aren't taking care of yourself, getting in your head, or generally doing something that he disapproves of, he's being mean and bickering with you until you get it together, and honestly?? it hasn't failed him yet asdf

It's definitely been like... a growing appreciation for the pairing, not only from the episodes themselves but from the fan creators (shoutouts to necr0dancin and requyem btw. ALSO shoutouts to DonutKittyBowBow on AO3, go read their Stars, Roots, and Trick-or-Treating series if you haven't, it's great)

The thing about John and Jack is that they're both just guys. Like in the sense of Candybats being two dumbass young adults in young love, Smokydonuts is two dumbass grown adults managing to find love in each other, if that makes sense.

Personally I like seeing them develop into a romantic relationship over the series rather than already being A Thing, but I'm down for already established stuff too

Jack is definitely the more outwardly affectionate of the two, but even then I imagine the ways they show affection are much more discrete, simple gestures and the like. It makes the softer more domestic moments all the sweeter :>

Also the angst potential is immaculate. Even ignoring the funny cult stuff, John is most likely a widow. He could have SO many hangups about how he feels like he's "betraying" that old relationship as he comes to realize just how much he loves Jack! Jack helping him move past his grief!! Like y'all!!

And this is something I pointed out like right after Deadly Smiles aired, but there is such a gold mine of potential shenanigans of John's daughter thinking John and Jack are already dating and I am so sad nobody's tapped into it (in a similar vein, the cult burning down John's house literally gives an excuse for him to live with Jack. Come on people /lh)

Also like. I think another reason the pairing's grown on me is that Tender Treats really made me love Jack dksjfs -- he's a goofball that is fully capable of kicking ass, and he just cares a lot! When I was doing a SM rewatch and got to the Newgrounds ending for Deadly Smiles, you can see Jack is concerned that John is uh. Getting a bit too invested into the cult investigation, but despite that goes along with it bc he knows how important it is, yet still manages to pull John's mind off it for just a little bit because Jack knows he needs a break

In general they just balance each other out excellently -- John is gruff and keeps his cards close to his chest, while Jack is more open and lighthearted. And because of the fact they're almost always together, they have one of the most fleshed out dynamics in the entire show

Maybe this is another reason I like the ship - we get to see John finally show his hand so to speak, something we've only gotten hints of with the photos of his daughter, and I love seeing the stoic characters open up

my friends been trying to get me to watch ds9 for ages, and after a several month hiatus ive finally started watching again, and it sort of helped me clarify a bit of why ive found it so hard to get 'in'. its a combo of so many things.

i preceeded watching ds9 by watching 95% of tng (skipping a few episodes, ie The Naked Now). and that means that part of me, however unfairly, is comparing tng at its peak (like seasons 3-5 or so) to ds9 s1. and that is unfair! bc s1 of tng also isnt that good! but i watched that with no expectations of quality, and now that i know what star trek CAN be, s1 of ds9 is a bit weak. not bad! just finding its footing.

relatedly, ds9s pilot sucks shit. i dont like it. its a two episode character study and somehow i come out of it feeling like i understand sisko less than i did after the first episode. also just personally i dont find religion an interesting plot, especially on a character who... isnt... part of that religion. (compare sisko in the pilot to kira in Battle Lines. THATS the good shit. battle lines is a really good episode imho)

everyone kept telling me ds9 was really good so a weak s1 is. unfortunate

i just have not found an 'in' to liking Dax. she just doesnt interest me. the most interesting shes been so far is the few times when she and sisko are just like. bantering? bc its when you get a sense that she has literally anything going on that isnt just her job. to that, she has the unfortunate job of being the Main Science Gal (vs Obrien being the Engineering guy, and Bashir being the Medical Guy). and that means shes being compared to Data. And im sorry but Data's my fucking blorbo, my hometown boy, my perfectly aged wine, and so on. she never had a chance.

related to the way people have tried to sell me on ds9, whenever ive mentioned my lack of investment in Dax, ive been assured that she gets better. Particularly once Worf shows up and they start a relationship. and while im certain that will be good - i like worf! hes not my blorbo but, yknow, he's my guy - it sucks to me that dax only gets more interesting once a man shows up and she enters a romantic arc. that sours me a little pre-emptively

and theres probably arent really fair criticisms? im sure if i wanted i could try to properly unpack why the ds9 pilot failed for me and started me on a bad foot for the whole series beyond just 'religion plot boring', maybe more into the vein of 'its weird that sisko is the chosen one when he has no connection to this religion, this region, or this culture', or present a nuanced critique of why a heavily character focused episode is a choice that doesnt work for me when its the start of a series with an ensemble cast, but 🤷. and my dislike of dax definitely isnt fair.

but i feel like i gotta unpack it in some capacity as a way to help me get over the growing pains and find where ds9 hits its stride. because there has been some good stuff! odo and quark are exceptional together, with an excellent dynamic that already is more than just one note, with a usual rhythm and the ways it interacts with the episode plots to bring the two closer together and further apart.

when bashir isnt being horny, he's great! he was the character i was most excited to see, weirdly enough, bc im a sucker for a hot man with a british accent and man! bashir! and he's got good potential to be interesting, and i know he will be, even outside of the widely accepted pairing with the cardassian guy (which, thats a lil cringe but in a cute way instead of a bad way, like when hes trying to flirt with dax, bc that shits bad)

and there have been really good episodes so far, i think! Battle Lines is really good, bc it explores aspects of Kira's character and how her religion is important to her, and also Kai Opaka is a really good character. I liked The Nagus as a way to get a bit more into Quark's head and the ways he is similar to and different from his companions and peers. that shits good. I think Progress was really interesting. I also enjoyed If Wishes Were Horses, minus the bit with the two dax's. like yea the scene was funny but i also wanted to smother my boy bashir with a pillow. stop! being! horny! and so on.

idk. i needed to get words out to unpack myself. i wanna give myself the chance to enjoy the show. i already forewarned my friends that i was probably not going to get as far as Voyager (which. well. mixed bag. also theyre the bastards who do the fucking holodeck thing with the village and *smashes the ship* stop that) but i do want to watch ds9. i am excited for it. i just need to get into it.

LEVI Gives: acts of service

This is one is talked about a lot, but Levi shows his love most often through doing things for you, even if you haven’t asked anything of him.

He’ll go out of his way to make your life easier and/or more comfortable in any way that he sees fit, and he doesn’t expect the same in return; it truly just makes him happy to know that he could have done something for you.

It includes bigger things like assembling furniture for you, building you something completely from scratch, or cleaning your car for; and also small things like making you a cup of coffee or tea, or even just holding your bag for you after a long day.

Needs: physical touch

Classic touch-starved man who doesn’t outwardly ask for physical touch, but doesn’t back away from it when you initiate it.

After some time, he’d begin to initiate himself, he just needs to get comfortable with the idea of it first; but after he is, it’s really cute to see. Catch him on a lazy morning, and he’s especially touchy; or find him after a long day of work, and he’ll cuddle himself right into your shoulder.

It makes him happy to know that you seek him out for physical comfort, and that he can begin to do the same. Also, he loves the feeling of you playing with his hair, it’s a surefire way to get him to fall asleep.

HANGE Gives: quality time, physical touch

Hange likes spending time with you, and loves roping you into their favorite hobbies, activities, and antics. Even something as simple as a 3 minute FaceTime call to ask them a quick question is enough to put a smile on their face.

Quality time for Eren can also be mistaken as him spending all of his free time annoying the hell out of you, but it’s really just him being Loving.

When he’s not annoying you, he really does just like to be in the same space as you, even if you’re doing your own things. He likes having you around because you comfort him even if you’re not directly speaking to or interacting with him.

Words of affirmation come out of him in a very matter-of-fact tone. It’s almost as if he’s not consciously trying to affirm you or flatter you.

To him, he’s just saying what he believes is an objective truth: of course he thinks you’re smart and talented and pretty and fun to be around. If those things make you feel good, then it’s a bonus, but really, he just means it like it’s a fact of the universe.

He’s not the best at giving gifts, but he does love to receive them, and honestly, he’s very humbled and flattered whenever you give him something that you clearly put a lot of time and/or effort into.

He almost feels undeserving of it, but he loves it all the same, and he really does cherish it. Even if it’s something as generic as a pair of shoes he was talking about, it still means a lot to him that you would remember and buy them for him.

Though, he certainly gains a lot of confidence over time, he still likes to leave you little presents to find when he’s not around. Something as small as buying your favorite candy and putting it in your coat pocket, or leaving flowers at your place.

He’s also very thoughtful, and when he does get you a bigger gift, or something to celebrate an occasion, he always makes sure it’s perfect.

He does it to make you happy, and when you’re happy, it makes him happy.

He won’t ask for it, but it’s really reassuring to hear, and it makes him feel really good, and relieved to know that the person he loves thinks highly of him.

If you told him you’re proud of him, he might… he really might malfunction a bit, but your words would stick with him. The next time he was going through something hard or even just doubting himself, he’d remember what you said to him and it would give him a little push to get through it (and maybe be nicer to himself as a consequence).

Not necessarily an affirmation, but it also flatters him to hear that you think he’s attractive. Though, be careful when and how you say this, because he’s very… easy to excite.

Mikasa lets you know how much you mean to her, and how much you mean to everyone in your life all the time. She doesn’t want you to ever feel like you’re less than you are.

She loves hearing about your progress or achievements in work/school and is quick to tell you that she’s happy for you and proud of you.

She’ll also do anything she can to help you out, so acts of service a big thing for her. She doesn’t want you to have to go out of your way to do something she could handle for you.

That isn’t to say that she thinks you’re incapable of fending for yourself; rather, that she would like to ease your pain whenever and wherever she can.

She doesn’t realize how much she likes/needs this until you guys start spending more time together; and it’s in your absence that she finds herself missing you more than she’d anticipated.

She doesn’t even mind sitting idly by while you’re busy or doing work, so long as she gets to be by your side. It also brings her a sense of comfort to be able to take care of you during this time; having snack breaks with you, occasional tangent conversations, and reminding you to rest when necessary.

Just. Just let Jean tag along to whatever you’re doing like a little golden retriever and he’ll be so damn happy. It doesn’t matter what—buying makeup, going on a walk, heading to the grocery store—he just likes spending time with you.

Though he—and anyone who expresses themselves in quality time—completely understands there are moments where you need to be by yourself. But if you don’t mind him being there, then he’ll take the opportunity to be with you.

He looooves to give presents, and even though he can get kind of embarrassed by it and try to play it off as nonchalant, he’s quite thoughtful and romantic with his gifts.

He lives for doing stupid (borderline illegal) shit with you, and to his credit, you’ve never gotten caught. He really just likes to hang with you and make you laugh and make memories the both of you won’t ever forget.

Help this man. No, really, literally, help him, even if he says he doesn’t need help, he’ll appreciate it in the end.

From stuff like tutoring him for a class, to packing him lunches (beyond Lunchables, but inclusive of a strawberry-kiwi CapriSun, nonetheless); it’s a love language Connie didn’t even think he would like.

He fucking loves it though and never shuts up about anything you might do for him; always thanks you a million times and puts you in a loving chokehold and pinches your cheeks in appreciation.

You end up talking about almost everything because it turns out that Changbin’s gone way longer than both of you thought 

Chan eventually emerges from his bedroom and waves at you 

He orders fried chicken for you guys 

You and Jeongin continue talking while eating 

Chan finds it super cute

Jeongin’s playful around you 

But he doesn’t want to make himself appear immature 

But you like when he’s being playful so you slowly ease him into being more comfortable 

He still just wants to impress you so you like him back

He realised it when you were over for a regular movie night 

You fell asleep in his lap

Riddle Rosehearts ~ 1/10

The chance of this actually happening is pretty low, not gonna lie. Not only is Riddle quick to anger, but he is a bit too strict on rules and following them. Mitsuki very much values her freedom, so I feel like they'd squabble more frequently than anything.

Trey Clover ~ 7/10

I can see it. They'd probably bake together, and his vibe is a lot more caring and loving than many of the others in the game. She'd probably get flustered though if he ever tried to help clean her teeth. Even if they aren't dating, Trey is definitely a person Mitsuki puts her trust in.

Cater Diamond ~ 7/10

Let's be honest, he's only a 7/10 bc I'm biased. Shhh.

Anyways, Cater's casual demeanor probably makes him a great companion for Mitsuki. I can definitely see a "friends to lovers" kind of trope going on with them. Sprinkle in some angst from both of their traumatic backstories, have a happy resolution, and you're good to go.

Ace Trappola ~ 3/10

Friend only. Sorry Ace, you're just not dating material... yet.

Maybe when you're older buddy.

They'd be great friends though. He's just too... brash? Not sure how to put it.

Deuce Spade ~ 8/10

For some reason, I feel like they'd really hit it off. A former delinquent, trying to turn his life around as an honors student, paired with Mitsuki, who was heavily bullied as a kid, yet has recovered and learned to grow from that?

It oddly works. In the past, they would have been enemies, but meeting later in life like this makes them two peas in a pod.

Leona Kingscholar ~ 7.5/10

LOTS of playful teasing. And I thoroughly mean that.

I feel like he'd have a relationship with Mitsuki similar to Ruggie... but she'd refuse to do chores for him unless they were super close. Overall, I can definitely see this happening, but Mitsuki might not be fully satisfied with the relationship.

Ruggie Bucchi ~ 8/10

Mitsuki would definitely heavily relate to him and his background, so they'd probably become close through that. The one big problem in this relationship would be initiating it. But once they finally start dating, it'd go off with virtually no hurdles.

Mitsuki is still probably a bit suspicious of him at first, though. You can never truly come clean from some things, I guess.

Jack Howl ~ 2/10

Sorry but..buy... this one's a no.

The first problem is his tsundere-like personality. Jack has a hard time admitting aloud what he wants, more so that many of the other characters. He also makes it obvious that he wants something, but still won't say it. Mitsuki probably knows what he wants, but without explicit, verbal consent? Nothing is going to happen.

The other problem is just his physique: he is heavily active, and very much "buff". Mitsuki's not really into that romantically. Overall, they'd probably have a mutual distant respect, but nothing further.

Azul Ashengrotto ~ 10/10

This one is another one that I think would go off really well. They both have been harshly bullied and shunned in their pasts, and Mitsuki has plenty of experience in working at cafés. Their ideals of benevolence are similar, too. Their relationship would be a perfect example of the "Boss x Subordinate" trope.

Their cautious personalities, but their gradual trust in each other, initiates one of the best romances possible on these rankings.

Jade Leech ~ 4/10

They'd work so much better as friends. They do get along well personality-wise, but interest-wise?

They'd contend. A lot. Mitsuki is a city girl through and through: mountains and mushrooms can only intrigue and entertain her for so long before she loses interest.

Floyd Leech ~ 6/10

Mitsuki handles his mood swings like a PRO. She's also really observant, so she'd quickly catch on to the fact that he is much smarter than he appears to be on the surface.

Unlike Jade, I feel like Mitsuki might actually date him, but the chance is slim. She'd still let Floyd squeeze her, though.

Kalim Al-Asim ~ 2/10

Nope. He's much too chipper... and dense. Mitsuki would get tired of his personality very quickly. She'd also probably feel awkward if he tried to gift her anything for free, unless it was food.

Jamil Viper ~ 7.5/10

They're really not all that different -- they'd just have a hard time trusting each other, especially after the incidents of Chapter Four. If he starts being more honest, though, especially with himself and his feelings, it'll definitely work out.

Definitely. He's been compared to Riddle before, but unlike Riddle, his "rules" have a purpose -- their positive outcomes when followed. This tough but honest and real love is something Mitsuki heavily appreciates and admires right from the get-go.

The only point of contention would be Mitsuki's self-care, as she hasn't really put in too much effort towards her skin-care: her skin just naturally stays clean, for the most part. Instead, most of Mitsuki's bodily care goes toward her hair, which has certainly paid off.

Other than Mitsuki's imbalance in self-care, though, these two would get along almost perfectly.

Rook Hunt ~ 7/10

At first, I think Mitsuki would find him creepy, especially considering the way he talks. But over time, she'd definitely grow to trust in him and appreciate his honesty. They'd probably date eventually, if they were given time to do so.

Epel Felmier ~ 4/10

Mitsuki would probably see Epel more as a brother. Their relationship is that of a familial bond.

Especially since they look so similar. Literally. Mitsuki would probably be mistaken as his actual biological sister. And there are plenty of ways in which they are similar, but enough differences to give them that sibling bond.

Overall, it would probably never get romantic. Even if it did, they'd both probably suppress it in the back of their minds.

⚠️BRIEF SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 6 IN THIS ONE (nothing too story-heavy). You have been warned.⚠️

This one... I honestly have no idea. Part of me says yes, and that it would be perfect, but the other part of me says they'd work better as friends.

For pros, Mitsuki enjoys rhythm games, and is extremely good at them. Her childhood best friends frequently took her to the arcade, so she's familiar with video games and their controls.

However, Mitsuki mostly plays video games for their stories (besides rhythm games) -- the same goes for anime. And all of the "games" he talked about in chapter 6? Most of them don't have "story" or "thought" put into them. They're brainless, and even the simple plot for the last Galaga-like game that he describes is, well... simple.

And these are the ones Idia LIKES. So she might have a hard time relating to him there. Overall, I don't know about this one (which is why it's in the middle).

Mostly though, she doesn't know too much about him, so there's some distance. There'd probably be some mutual respect, but unless they suddenly decide to hang out more, nothing too interesting will happen.

And no, she doesn't find him "hot" (gasping sound effects).

Lilia Vanrouge ~ 9.5/10

Probably third place of all the boys. If we had place rankings, Azul would be first, then Vil, and then Lilia.

Lilia, despite not quite understanding modern human society, has a really good grasp on human life and what it means to live as a mortal. The "death cycle", so to speak.

Guess who's also experienced way too much death in their past? Mitsuki.

Mitsuki would also probably look up to him, especially with his war general past. Their common interest in music (and possibly gaming) would unite them together very quickly. Not only that, but Lilia can talk about non-mortal things to Mitsuki.

And she actually understands it. It doesn't just go through her head.

Also, she can cook. So.

Overall, this is the pairing of "two 'old' people who don't quite understand humanity yet. <3

Silver ~ 7/10

Mitsuki and Silver would definitely take naps together. No questions asked. His calm and more mellow nature is also soothing, and he can talk to animals?? Yes??

I don't have much more to say on this one, but it can definitely work.

Sebek Zigvolt ~ 2/10

Sebek is too... loud. And overbearing. And dramatic. Mitsuki worries and is cautious, but she knows when not to worry. Sebek worries TOO much, and often makes unreasonable statements and claims. She'd probably want to steer clear of him more than anything else.

tbh my overall feelings after this event were acceptance and disappointment. i tried to keep my hopes low and my dreams small. more so after the whole part 1 announcement and after them now explaining what it meant, i was prepared to gain nothing from this event. or crumbs, max.

i was kind of right, kind of not. let me bring up some things i felt good and bad about:

good:

pluto. definitely. i really loved the whole concept and i love to see more gls happening. i have some doubts but i'm carefully optimistic about this and wish we can place this one and last twilight in the same basket amongst other brain-altering shows. also, absolutely love them pairing namtan and film. they seem like a good fit.

we are. i was hoping for a series with several main couples and this feels like one! a bit surprised they didn't give separate shows for both pondphuwin and winnysatang, but i think they will work as a group too. ecstatic about seeing marcpawin return. and aouboom!! the story seems very simple but it might work for me the same way hidden agenda eventually did. a bit scared about them stuffing four couples into the same series tho bc of screen time and everyone's story developing enough but we shall see.

my golden blood. it was half hilarious and half exactly what i've wanted. the main pairing surprised me which was only a plus in my books. the setting seems... cliche yet something i will enjoy. i just hope they do it right and don't fall into too many cliche bl tropes. heard it is a wattpad adaptation which makes me shiver but there might be potential (and hopefully better special effects hhh)

the trainee. excited to see offgun as a couple again even if we haven't gotten cooking crush yet ;; they just bring me such joy when they're together! and here i thought not me was forever going to be their last bl... also excited to see sea in this one!! we got to know very little about his character throughout the trailer but i guess he's having a romance with piploy? kind of hoped his solo project would offer a bit more variety in the characters he gets cast as (soft, sweet, smiley, shy etc.), but sea as a cute nerd is always a good look.

ploy's yearbook. the cast seemed good and the setting felt heartwarming. hoping they have similar vibes with the warp effect. bc this one could be wonderful if done right. i'm actually very excited for both jimmy and earth's romantic storylines in this. it's going to be a bit weird to see jimmy act with some girl but i think i will love it. (please make me love it doc)

(jimmysea in solo projects also means this will expand the currently in the making jimmysea cinematic universe, so watch me au the heck out of their new characters and their stories once we see them)

bad:

both remakes. i'm not a big fan of remakes of series that have already been done somewhere. it feels like a cheap option to me and i really hoped both geminifourth and earthmix had gotten something better/bigger. don't get me wrong, i love kieta hatsukoi (i've never watched ossan's love so i cannot say anything about that), but the japanese version is already so good it's hard to top that. plus i always favor original plots over remakes bc i feel like remakes lack surprise when it comes to the plot if they're not changing it completely which often goes very wrong. i felt the same about cherry magic last year and that has not changed.

the lack of originality. i feel like nothing lived up to the same surprise feeling as last year's line up? everything felt very... plain, for some reason. all the plots feel like i've seen them seven times before. or maybe they're just not up my alley but nothing really left an impression. there are a couple of ones i feel really indifferent about and a couple that i didn't mention that make me think i might watch them depending on the feedback but that's about it. which is not lot compared to last year and me wanting to watch almost everything from there the moment they dropped the trailers. (this is excluding the ones i mentioned that i will watch. also pls i put the "get them out of school!!" wish there for a reason, i think they misheard me and put Everyone in school)

feeling insane about the fact that we are getting another LOL concert for may tho bc the last one was a blast and i really loved the concept. the lineup also seems to be around the same as it was last time (with perthchimon taking over ohmnanon) which means they already work well together and the show will most likely be even better with last year's experience under their belt. i am so ready to watch it, be it through a livestream again or possibly in real life.

overall, i did enjoy this evening but nothing will probably top the 2023 event for me. until part 2 drops and we can go through this insanity all over again!

on the wonder duo (part 1)

(BNHA Analysis Post Ahead! This isn’t explicitly romantic, but it is an analysis of the relationship between the two most popular characters in BNHA--Katsuki Bakugou and Izuku Midoriya. Split into two posts because I realized that this was gonna be long as HELL)

everyone knows the win to save and save to win parallel. How they are supposedly two halves of a whole perfect hero (which, previously, was defined as all might)

but ever since bakugou and deku started working as one—growing together to win AND save and continuously reminding each other that they shouldnt try to do things alone, ive realized that its BECAUSE theres two of them that they surpass all might. its not a case of deku and bakugou both being 50% of an ideal hero, but rather i think that they are 100% of what all might SHOULD HAVE BEEN from the very beginning.

as early as the AM v AFO battle in kamino, we see the effects of all mights flawed existence. the fact that he, the greatest and supposedly infallible symbol of peace, was destroyed—society had begun to collapse. there was suddenly no pillar to hold people together and the impacts were so severe that even in the latest chapters of mha it keeps on getting worse. the truth is, all mights biggest mistake was the burden he placed on his own shoulders

with bakugou and deku... its different.

its different for them because down to their attributions, they seem like two halves of a whole person.

i think that the wonder duo are going to surpass all might because of the fact that they work together.

1. Complementary Colors

I’d like to first preface literally everything I say by the fact that I am not an expert analyzer or literary major in any way. I am literally just some random fan on the internet who has wayyy too much time and looks wayyy too deep into things, but here we go!

A common thing we see when we talk about bakugou and deku is the way they are... sort of an inverse of one another.

Down to the design of their features and the way they move, Deku is the obviously softer of the two. There’s an intentional contrast between the two of them, in the way that Deku’s drawn with round shapes and curvy hair and the way Bakugou is literally all spikes and half-mast eyes and rough muscles. Bakugou’s movements too are languid and showy, with the way he leans when he walks and splays his legs and kicks open doors. Katsuki, in a casual sense, is loud and dramatic. 

Deku on the other hand s finicky. He jitters when he walks and he’s often fidgeting and mumbling. Comparatively, the aura he radiates is energetic and frenzied, even self-conscious to a point unlike Bakugou’s calm and confident movements.

the point is, there’s a clear difference in how either of them are designed and what exactly they are supposed to represent. They utterly complement each other down to the way they behave and even their main colors (red-orange and blue-green) being literal complementary colors.

Now, moving to my more ungrounded points, this is quite a bit of a stretch so I’ll try as much as possible to make sense of these with hyperlinked sources because. yeah.

Down to their names, I think Deku and Bakugou both symbolize something deeper. I think that the way Hori expresses characters and what they’re meant to do is something that we have to pay close attention to when we talk about the Wonder Duo’s rise to success.

Izuku Midoriya (緑谷 出久), as some of us may know, does have an interesting meaning when broken up. According to a lovely fan translation of his name, ‘Izuku’--while not an actual name used commonly in real life--means to ‘Come out’ or ‘Long time’. ‘Midoriya’ on the other hand means (Midori) ‘Green’ and (ya) ‘valley’. The translator further pointed out that his first name ‘Izuku’ could be a reference to him being the first legendary hero to come out of the long-running All Might Era. (or, if you’ve been reading @/bakugoukatsuki-rising’s posts, the first significant anime protag in a long while to come out as queer, ppfft)

but that isn’t my focus right now.

We know that Hori LOVES telling stories with names, and more often than not in the BNHA universe, names alone tell us a lot of things about the characters. When referring to Izuku’s last name, Midoriya, it’s important I think to step back and realize that hey, maybe there’s something more to Green Valley than just the fact that his motif is all green.

After searching for a lil on the specifics of green valley, I’ve found out that across many cultures, the colour green and valleys in general tend to represent life. From dream analysts, to Christianity, and even old Taoist teachings, valleys are seen as areas of fertility and escape. They are seen as safe havens and often escapes for people to come to after running away from bad circumstances.

(Sound familiar?)

Deku, in essence represents life and peace. He represents being the “salvation” that the world in BNHA needed. To me, it sounds like Horikoshi is trying to say that he is the long-awaited hero in the sense. The one that people can feel will create a society that feels safe for everyone after years of All Might just saving people from themselves as a band-aid solution.

On the other hand, we have Katsuki Bakugou (爆豪 勝己), who’s name we commonly know means (Katsuki) Winner and (Bakugou) Explosion Master. He is essentially, the champion. The power. His name means success and power and all the things that make up winning.

When putting them side by side, it then becomes increasingly... interesting to me how their names almost perfectly slot into All Might’s save to win and win to save mantra, and how they are both quintessential parts to what made All Might as a hero.

2. Hero Too!

Now, I’m not even gonna really TOUCH much of what happens in canon. If you want me to do a step by step breakdown of their arcs in regards to the plot of manga and anime, feel free to send me a gratuitous ko-fi tip so I can pay for the headache I get after trying to organize my thoughts into word vomit.

What I WILL talk about on the other hand, is the subtle shift both of them slowly have in regards to how they look. Bakugou and Deku, while growing up, seem to have MANY many parallels--but before I elaborate on all of that, I wanna talk about something else.

Detour: Deku’s Red Shoes 

We all know the iconic symbol being Deku’s red shoes. For all his life, save for some outfits like his hero one, we see Deku more often than not wearing his signature red sneakers which have become a running joke in fandom.

But the funny thing is, in Japan, red shoes seem to have an interesting connotation.

In 1922, a popular Japanese nursery rhyme was written, called “Red Shoes”. The interesting part to me about this song was the symbolism that, in my tiny pea-sized brain, I could connect to the story of BNHA.

The story goes that there was a little girl with red shoes named ‘Kimi’. She was from Shizuoka prefecture (which, if you didn’t know, is most likely where Musutafu supposedly is) and was raised by a single mother. When she was young, her mother had to entrust her with a foreigner under the impression that they would give her a better life in America. The stranger is a man named Charles Hewitt (who was described to have blue eyes) and supposedly took her away. 

The singer of the song (supposedly the mother, but some argue it was written from the perspective of a childhood friend) believes that Kimi is happy and living a better life away from them, when the reality of the situation was much worse. The young girl with red shoes in actuality had Tuberculosis, and thus the foreigner whom she was entrusted to had left her to fend for herself and eventually left her to go to America while she died alone and orphaned.

“When I see red shoes, I think of her.”

A very interesting story with very interesting implications indeed.

Anyway, moving on to the more... “nuanced” and connected parts of this section, I have every reason to believe that Bakugou and Deku were simply MEANT to be working together down to how they dress. Now, I’d like to discuss their hero costumes.

At the start of their series, using these godawful pics for reference, it’s clear to see that neither of them seem alike in any way--reflecting the dissonance in their relationship at that point in canon.

ough. deku why. (yes we know why its because you love your mom you stupid little bunny <3)

Anyway, we see an immediate gap in how the two of them are. Deku’s first costume is one that reflects how he treated his dream of being a hero. He was still in that childlike idolization phase, the one where his dreams and aspirations were hinged on pure feelings and inspiration from All Might. Katsuki on the other hand was a lot more tactical--professional to an extent. The gap between their respective development with their quirks is something that is clearly felt in every fashion decision they’d made.

(Notice how Deku’s green is a lot brighter and less like the green accents Katsuki has all over his costume.)

As time progressed however... their costumes changed. The colors, the silhouettes, the practical functions, most things.

we begin to notice a few similarities.

As the show goes on and we see more evolutions of their costumes, it almost seems like they begin to look like a matching pair. Deku’s green grows darker and almost teal in nature, while Bakugou’s orange is veering towards red territory. This is important to note because red-orange and blue-green as I said earlier were complementary colors as compared to simply orange and green. The minute shift is something I really wasn’t quite sure was intentional, but something I find interesting to pick up nonetheless as the colors they used to accent their costumes begin to match up.

Secondly, I think and important thing to note is silhouettes. The way that both Bakugou and Deku’s costumes are designed follow a lot of parallels that typically we don’t see with the rest of 1-A. For one, they both have a combination of tight long-sleeved tops with a bulkier set of bottoms. They also share the use of utility belts and metal pieces typically worn around their necks. Deku has his bunny-eared hood that mimics All Might’s hair, while Bakugou has his orange and black explosion ear-pieces that mimic his own quirk.

i don’t think any other people in class 1-A match each other as subtly yet strongly as these two. Uraraka and Deku and Bakugou and Kirishima do come close however.

“But Codi, you fucking knob!” I hear you plea. “This is such a reach and tells us practically NOTHING!” And yes, I’m inclined to agree with you! You’d be sort of right in the idea that this is a reach. Maybe I am looking too much into this, and maybe it really isn’t that deep--but I do think that them subconsciously matching outfits means something quite brilliant.

In the way that their costumes are designed, each aspect of either outfits have a very logical explanation. The changes were strategic and made with their fighting styles vividly in mind, so what that tells me is that BECAUSE these costumes are so complementary or similar in nature (Bakugou’s reinforcing his arms while Deku reinforces his legs), these two are implicitly showing the audience that their combat styles are complementary as well. 

The evolution of their design choices and similarities tell us that even unknowingly, their minds line up in strategy on the battlefield--a clear exhibit for why they would be INCREDIBLY POWERFUL as a Hero Duo to begin with.

When I look at their hero costumes side by side, I see a mirror. I see the way that these two are reflections of each other and are strong where the other isn’t. The point I see in BNHA repeatedly is that EVERYONE HAS A WEAKNESS. Nothing is infallible, regardless of how hard you train or how powerful your quirk is. Everyone will always have a weakness, but the significant difference I see when fandom discusses the future of Pro-Hero Society is that the new generation is finally raising itself to be RELIANT on each other. 

Observing their fighting styles and the simple use of their quirks, its obvious that they are indeed two parts of a whole hero. Bakugou, who’s quirk emphasized his arms and hands and the power that comes from it, while Deku who’s quirk now emphasizes his legs and lower body and the way he’s always running to save people.

IN CONCLUSION:

As they become heroes, it is easy to assume that if nothing else, Bakugou and Deku will cover each other’s weak spots (especially when you consider the way Deku probably won’t be able to keep using his arms with the way both the anime and manga are going...) (also chapter 285, anyone?)

Part Two: Interactions, OfA

I will never not hate the argument that something has to be canon or endgame in a show or movie because “it happened in the books” rather than making changes or following the organic chemistry. You shouldn’t force something just because it existed in another adaptation. And the thing is, it only seems to apply to ships. Tons of other things can be changed and there’s no issue. But if you change a relationship, it’s going too far. An obvious example is Michael and Maria. I love them in the original show, and in the books, but it doesn’t mean rnm has to tell the same story or do the same things. Writers should be allowed some creative freedom to make changes even if they have an original inspiration for their story. I mean I’m a giant fan of skamverse, and they are restricted from changing a lot of things due to the original story rights, yet the remakes still find ways to make their stories feel different and original by making the changes they’re allowed to. Rnm doesn’t have a lot of those same restrictions, so why not take that opportunity to make their story original? Beyond updating things for the world we live in today, Michael and Alex have chemistry whereas Michael and Maria do not.

But another recent example, where I’m seeing a lot of the same things happen, is in Nancy Drew. I’ve binged the entire thing fairly recently, and it’s amazing by the way. Full disclosure: I never liked Nancy and Nick together. I’ve never felt chemistry between them, and I always considered them to just be sort of hook up buddies. So the lack of spark really didn’t bother me. When they tried to turn it into a serious romantic relationship, it was incredibly boring and I felt completely disengaged. And I love both of them as individual characters. I love every single character on the show. It’s a great show (and much better written than rnm too like I’m in love with this show for real real.) When Nick and George started spending time together, I was like okay now this is chemistry. This works for me. And now that they are together, I absolutely love their relationship. And on the flip side, I’m absolute Nancy and Ace trash. I’ve been shipping them for a long time, pretty much since the beginning of the show but that’s only gotten stronger as time has gone on. I love the dynamic of Nancy who is so driven, controlled, sometimes obsessive, and pretty walls up with someone like Ace who is chill and loyal and funny. (Also side note Ace and Bess’ friendship is the best best best). I absolutely love that there is this inherent trust between them. Like there’s never any questioning between them about each other and whether or not the other is right. They have this underlying bond that is shown to us regularly. The show-don’t-tell is very strong with them. And they have chemistry! Even though I already felt it and suspected it in season one, in season 2 it’s become very obvious that they are setting up a relationship for them and it’s a lovely slow burn. But I’ve seen pushback. I’ve seen anger. Even though it seems a big majority of the fandom is here for Nick/George and Nancy/Ace, there are some people who are pissed off because Nancy and Nick are book canon. I never read the Nancy Drew books. Maybe a couple when I was young, but I don’t really remember anything about them, and when this show started I didn’t know how many if any of these characters were from the books other than Nancy herself. So finding out Nick and Nancy were canon in the books (and Ace didn’t exist even though I love the theory that he’s a Hardy boy bc we don’t know his last name that would be amazing) means absolutely jack squat to me. They are amazing characters, but they just do not have great romantic chemistry. I didn’t have a real issue with them being together or anything, but I had zero investment and it felt like they were hookup buddies at most. It never felt like they were meant to end up together.

So now we are seeing a similar argument with Nick and Nancy as we do with Michael and Maria. (The alliteration lol). They should end up together because “it happened in the books”. Even though Nick’s chemistry with George and Nancy’s chemistry with Ace are fantastic and it’s boring with one another. For the record though Nick and Nancy are still better in the chemistry/romance department than m!luca. Even though Michael’s chemistry with Alex is fire and it’s practically non existent with Maria, they still need to end up together? Even though most of the audience is on board with these alternate pairings, the books should be followed. I just don’t understand that. Is it really better to force these lackluster relationships instead of letting them follow a different path where the dynamic and chemistry is better?

When your only real reason for a relationship is “it happened in the books/source material” it’s not good enough.

oooooooo, yea i can totally see that with kevin/thea. they're both former ravens and they were successful ravens, which means the raven's conditioning was especially ingrained in them. so yes i definitely agree that they could bring out the worst of their raven histories in each other, especially bc i can see them withdrawing from outside influences and isolating themselves rather than going out of their way to reach and form meaningful connections with other people who could stop them from slipping back into their old habits

they're partners after all, and as the raven's teach, you only need your partner

i think that the same thing would happen with daysten, though not on the same scale as with kevin/thea. kevin/thea would be falling off a cliff whereas daysten would be more of a downwards plane descent

and i think that's really sad, for kevin especially, just how many relationships i can see him in that that could drag him back down into the nest. i think it's because of his choice to reclaim exy for himself, because exy is also so intertwined with his trauma and his conditioning. he walks a very thin line with it, and this is why it would be so easy for him to stay with thea long term or get with neil, because he was raised to be totally co-dependent and totally focused on exy. he will always have to approach exy with an extremely sharp eye and a lot of nuance because the line between what parts of it are good and bad for him is blurred. he could choose these relationships and really think that he's in love just because he's not being abused and he has another person there and he's playing exy, and never realize how happy he could be either with the right person (either romantic or qpr) or single and just living a varied and fulfilling life

it's also important to note though, that thea is a very hard character to feel strongly about the relationship dynamics of, because we really see very very little of her. she only appears in one scene in the books and there isn't much more info about her in the ec. she's by no means a fully fleshed out character

but like also,, what we see of her isn't exactly... kind

and i think the fact that kevin never talks about her or seeks her out in times of stress is very telling. a good partner in a healthy relationship should be a person that you first and foremost want to take your problems to because you trust them to help and support you through them. kevin makes it pretty clear, indirectly, that he and thea don't have this kind of relationship

and i also want to stress, just like when i said kandrew would be a toxic romantic relationship, i'm not saying that KEVIN HIMSELF is a toxic person or that all of his relationships would be bad, and the same applies to thea. i don't view her as an abusive or toxic PERSON, i view her as the wrong partner FOR KEVIN. likewise, kevin is the wrong person for her

a real rare-pair i have is renee/thea, because renee is both kind and gentle, but is also someone familiar with violence and rage. i also get a similar energy out of the both of them, one of barely-contained power

in all honesty the best possible future i can see for kevin and thea is one where they try to make it work long-distance while kevin is still on the foxes, and when they see each other kevin is able to see all the raven conditioning that's still in thea because the foxes are still the primary influence in his life, and they're the furthest dynamic possible from the ravens

and he tells her this, and tells her that they can't be together because of that, but that he's still there for her. she may not be able to see the full extent of the harm the ravens did to her yet, kevin can't see the full extent of what was done to him, but he'll be there to help her through it

and he makes even more of an effort to call her, after that, to talk to her and question her and check in with her to make sure she's not isolating herself. and they honestly become closer broken up than they ever were together, talking about the nest to someone else who lived it

and maybe later on they can expand that and make some sort of support group for former ravens, where they can confront and deconstruct all the things that happened to them in the nest together. it's a little bit like AA or NA

and kevin and thea are able to stay in each others' lives and they're able to see that they're better for each other with a little bit of distance between each other than they are as a couple

I find this slightly fascinating because I think he's actually verbalising what I've seen many other readers do when they look at the facts, and realise yes, this is a romance, and yes, there are already strong sexual undertones - but they cannot reconcile what is objectively on the page with how they personally feel about the pairing, and try to kind of intellectualise why courtship and intimacy don't really apply to Jaime and Brienne the same way they might any other romance.

there is sex all over the place in ASOIAF. Just a few POVs who have sex in their chapters include: Tyrion, Jon, Daenerys, Catelyn, Asha, Cersei, literally Jaime - so why would there not be room for Jaime and Brienne specifically to have sex?? it is VERY much that type of story.

here is what I find very telling, and what I also found very telling in D&D's JB 'sex scene'. I think we are seeing awkwardness imposed upon JB from the perspective of the reader here. like yes, I agree, their first time would probably be a bit awkward - Jaime has experience with only one person, and Brienne with no one, but I'd say perhaps the majority of 'first times' are awkward. but if it's a consensual encounter between two people who are sexually and romantically attracted to one another..... you have to explain, on what basis do you think it would be 'unsuccessful'? what is going to poison this encounter? what is fundamentally 'not right' about it?

I'm going to take a guess that there is something about Brienne, an ugly woman who presents in quite a masculine way, having sex with a beautiful man, that strikes a lot of people as 'not right'. I think it struck D&D, even though they had Gwendoline Christie of all people to ease them into the idea. it just flies right in the face of what so many people consider 'sexy', and so they work to get the sex out of it. there is a reason that D&D adapted Jaime and Brienne's love scene the way they did, and it has a lot more to do with their discomfort and awkwardness around the pairing than it has anything to do with the characters themselves. and without meaning to project that onto this tiktokker..... i'm going to hazard a guess that given the prevalence of these bizarre non-arguments, some of that discomfort factors in here too.

She is and she is not. You can be right and wrong, I can be right and wrong.

Personally, I think she's his fiancée/wife. I can be right and wrong.

But-

There's evidence-

1) In the OP song Suzue was featured lying on the hood of a car and Daisuke's silhouette kicked the camera, preventing us from looking at her exposed body. It's like he's trying to protect her innocence. Ofc this could also be Haru's silhouette but no. Here's the evidence-

This is clearly Daisuke's silhouette since his hair is slicked back and he also has a cut-out line on his jacket.

Haru doesn't have that.

2) Also OP song, the creators had left us so many clues I'm still surprised that no one payed attention to details.

In every picture Daisuke's sitting on the sofa and serving looks. He doesn't care about Modern Crime Investigation or First Division Investigation squad, he looks at the camera and smiles. The only odd pictures are with the grandma and Suzue. With grandma he's not smiling, probably bc his parents deceased when he was very young so grandma is the only family member left. And then we have him smiling again but not at the camera, he's smiling at Suzue this time. I mean, she's sitting on his lap and they're looking at each other smiling. It looks pretty romantic if you ask me.

3) Creators never called her his "sister", only a "woman". She's also not addressing him with "brother", she's calling him by his name. Only older sisters are supposed to call their younger siblings by their names without using honorifics. But younger siblings should call them "older sister" in return, that's how Japanese tradition works. But we never heard him using any honorifics for her yet.

Furthermore, in the latest tweets it has been confirmed that Suzue is younger than Daisuke. She's 25 and he's 27. Normal couple's age. She's not his older sister.

4) When he talked to Haru about his past he said "I had a father and I had a mother", he never mentioned having any siblings. + When they finally reached Suzue they never said that they were family-related. The only clue we have is their shared surname Kambe. She can be his sister or she can be his wife.

Sure I can't deny that they both have dark hair and that his eyes are bluish and her grayish, but hey it's not like these features are rare in Japan. Moreover, it's been scientifically proven that people choose their love interests that resemble either their family members or themselves. They look similar but on the other hand they don't look that much similar.

In her character sheet doesn't stand that she's his sister. It would be appropriate to write "the other heir of the Kambe fortune". Why are they making her so secretive? There's no point in hiding who she really is.

5) This picture-

So this post is from the official FKBU instagram account announcing the broadcasting of episode 2. What is that ring emoji doing there? At first I thought it might even be mistaken when you write the word ‘airing’, changing the last word into a ring. But the thing is, this was originally written in Japanese so that emoji was deliberately placed along with a picture of Suzue.

"Stay tuned" + ring? I'm waiting for the confirmation.

6) Many noticed that Daisuke and Suzue aren't wearing any rings.

The reason for this is probably because she’s working a lot with her hands, we saw her doing something in her workshop so she’s obviously putting it away. Daisuke probably doesn’t wear it in order to protect her, people who seek revenge usually choose to hurt the person through their loved ones so it just makes sense. Detective job is dangerous and it mustn't be taken so lightly.

This is the only time she wore rings. Maybe the shining one is there for a reason?

7) When she seduced Isezaki Daisuke didn't have a reaction. He insisted that they should tail Isezaki in order to find his drug dealer. This proves that Daisuke has trust in her and that there weren't any awkward moments between the pair because they knew that it was all for the mission. On the other hand, I don't think that he'd allow something like this to happen to his baby sister.

8) People speculated that Haru will leave the two at some point because he disappeared from the picture.

This will allow some room for further analysis and explanation of their relationship. This could be the moment where we'll get the actual reveal.

9) In the novel she was in love with him and he was oblivious of her feelings. The story has an open ending in which they could either end up together or not. Tbh I'm just cheering them on. He also bought her a turquoise ring for her birthday. ^^
