Being a transperson who passes is kinda strange
Like I AM transgender, I will always be connected to and love my community, and I will always mourn my childhood and even my girlhood.
But in large sense I don't feel transgender, in every social sense I'm not, for the last few years I haven't been misgendered, or clocked, or been asked my pronouns, or had to wear a binder since top surgery. All my documents are legally changed.
I am in everyway except in my memories and emotions and private body, a cis male.
Being transgender is my whole life, because it's, yknow, my whole body and my past, so it's very weird to have this disconnect of my transgender identity and how I live my life.
Idk if this is really articulating well but I hope this makes sense.

People need to stop assuming that the term trans has to mean either AMAB Transfemmes or AFAB Transmascs. IT IS AN UMBRELLA TERM FOR ANYONE WHO IS NOT CIS. Need me to repeat it? Yes, of course it includes AMAB transfemmes, and AFAB transmascs. BUT it also means us enbies, and YES this does DAMN WELL include:
AMAB neoboys, demiboys, libramascs, and solarians
AFAB neogirls, demigirls, librafems, and lunarians
Quoigender, Pomogender, and Gender Apathetic people
trans AFABs who are still women and trans AMABs who are still men
Agender, gendervoid people
Xenogender people
anyone who just doesn’t feel quite cis
Even if you’ve never changed your names or pronouns, or gotten hormones or surgeries, you’re still trans
Don’t worry, you ARE valid and you ARE still trans
I love you all <33

A customer at work just (accidentally) gendered me correctly and that made me so happy. I never really realize how much I don't actually like she/her until someone Actually uses they/them for me.

Maya Yamato, huh? Well, I don't think she's cisgender.
So, Maya Yamato. I don't believe she's a cisgender woman. And I actually have a few reasons why. They might be kinda iffy but whatever I wanted to show them anyways
So I'd like to start with the pronoun she refers herself with, jibun. The jibun in pronoun is used my mostly males and quiet literally means "oneself" or "myself" depending on the context. Most of the Bandori girl use the typically more feminine pronouns of "Watashi" and "atashi". Now, also remember that Japanese pronouns are very different from English pronouns. The typical male pronouns of "Ore" and "Boku" can still be used by females, since in some cases "Boku" and be a sort of cutesy way of referring to them self. "Ore" Is also a way to show superiority. "Watashi" and "Atashi" can be considered more casual and cool pronouns and are more gender neutral, just used by females more. So though jibun is used by mostly males, it can also be more gender neutral, or tomboy-ish. However, I feel like that can add quite a bit to the point I'm trying to make.

Next, I'd like to talk about the way Maya dresses. She typically dresses more androgynous than the other girls in Bandori. She also keeps her hair shorter and and typically considered "unfeminine" according to most Japanese standards for woman. Femininity is actually pretty important when it comes to woman in Japan. So though this can be a case of a tomboy, I feel like it can also be a case of the gender.

Maya also knows little to nothing about makeup. Most people can argue that it's actually kinda normal to have no clue about what makeup does or how to use it, but we have to remember that this is Japan. In Japan it should be common knowledge on how to use makeup and stuff like that, so her not knowing how to use makeup is a big old no-no. This can add to the point I'm trying to make.

Also, Maya's personality. She's really nerdy and likes things that are typically unfeminine. In one of her events, it shows that she's very interested in the wilderness and knows a lot about it. This is typically an unfeminine thing. Her behavior of her laughing and being a nerdy is all unfeminine, and since we've already established that femininity is very important in Japan, I feel like this can all add up to Maya's gender.
Now, with all of these points combined, you get a Maya Yamato that isn't cisgender!
So then, what is Maya? Well, I headcanon her as a non-binary person. Now, non-binary people can still be feminine too and use she/her pronouns. That's really the same for any gender identity. Also, a woman can still be masculine, I just feel like I need to say that so any tomboys don't get mad. You can headcanon her as anything. This isn't me trying to push my Headcanons on to other people, I just wanted to share something and yap about Maya Yamato in a long unnecessary post about her. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
