In Vedic Astrology, the Vimshottari dasha system has been developed, which allows you to determine when the energies of the planets will manifest in a person’s life. Ketu and Rahu also have their own place in this system. The main period of Rahu lasts 18 years. It is believed that he can bring a very big take-off in his period if he is well-located, but if a person is strongly attached to acquisitions and is very proud of it, then at the end of the period Rahu can take everything. Rahu is the planet of illusion and intoxication, and in case of defeat in their periods and sub-periods, a person may meet with deceit or with a strong desire for forbidden foods and deeds.

Each planet governs a specific season of the year. Rahu along with Saturn governs the peak of Winter and falls between December and February in the Northern Hemisphere.

Vedic Astrology divides the year into 2 parts Uttarayana (Northern path of the Sun from Capricorn to Gemini - from December 22 to June 21) and Dakshinayan (South path of the Sun from Cancer to Sagittarius - from June 21 to December 22). It is believed that demigods and divine qualities are strongest during the Solar Northern Path, while demons and demonic qualities are strongest during the Solar Southern Path. During the month, Rahu is most powerful on the days when the Moon passes the nakshatras ruled by Rahu - Ardra (Gemini), Swati (Libra), and Shatabhisha (Aquarius).

The month between two full moons is divided into 30 tithi or lunar days. These 30 days are divided among themselves into 15 days of the growing and 15 days of the waning moon. It is believed that Rahu correlates with the 8 lunar days of the waxing and waning moon, but some astrologers write that the 5 lunar day also belongs to him, because. it is on these tithes that snake worship takes place.

Energy Update: Jupiter 29° Pisces

If you feel like everything is ending this week, it's because it is.

Sometimes, there are great astrological synchronicities that line up to show us that there is something greater going on, right now. Right here.

This week, and leading into next - all eyes are on Jupiter who is currently sitting at 29° Pisces - the very last degree of our horoscope wheel. Notably, Jupiter is the ruling sign of Sagittarius and we are in Sag season, and, Jupiter has made a rough square with both Mercury and Venus in the last week.

A useful way to view the horoscope wheel is to look at it as one life lived over many. Astrology is inherently tied into the concept of reincarnation - some believe that we are reincarnated over many lives to live each of the signs and learn each of the lessons; others believe that each us has a part to play in the collective lesson, that each of us is a reincarnation of the whole. 00° Aries is the moment of birth and 29° Pisces is the moment of death. Note how immediately after death, there is always a birth. Things have to fall apart to make way for something new.

As we sit in the liminality of this end of a Jupiter cycle, we are also sitting in the liminality of the end of a seasonal cycle as we approach the Winter or Summer solstice. For those of us in the Northern hemisphere (I hesitate to guess how astrology applies to the Southern), the deep dark nights before the Winter Solstice have a lot in common with the last degrees of Pisces.

Pisces, our mutable water sign, is concerned with deep and spiritual matters. There is a selfishness that begins with early Pisces - a why me - that turns into selflessness as the sign progresses. All of the trappings of being who you were fall away as you begin to merge with all that can ever be. This is the realm of the twelfth house and so I fear, despite my best efforts, it will remain beyond explanation. Just like when we breathe our last breath we cease to be an individual and become one again with the elemental aspects of the earth itself, so the end of Pisces is about something more - something greater than any one of us.

Something is dying inside all of us, as I think it does every year at this time. Jupiter is enhancing this. It is drawing us down even deeper and even farther into the shadows of the dark. If you're holding onto something that is passed its time, this may be a very difficult space to sit in right now. Do it anyway.

Jupiter crosses the threshold, dying to be reborn anew at 00° Aries, on December 20th. Our Sun is reborn anew on December 21st. This time in between isn't meant to be worked, forced, or cajoled - it is meant to be experienced. This isn't a time to do - this is a time to rest. This is a time to let go. To reevaluate. To regroup.

SIRIUS STARGATE

Today the Sun is conjunct the Dog Star of Summer, Sirius.

Sirius was known to the Ancient’s as the “Spiritual” Sun of our Sun.

As Sirius merges with the Sun, her rays filter down to Earth and light up our planetary grid, Shifting the energy percolating through the atmosphere.

Sirius, also called Alpha Canis Majoris or the Dog Star, brightest star in the night sky. It has a radius 1.71 times that of the Sun and a surface temperature of 9,940 kelvins (K), which is more than 4,000 K, higher than that of the Sun. Its distance from the solar system is 8.6 light-years, only twice the distance of the nearest known star system beyond the Sun, the Alpha Centauri. Its name comes from a Greek word meaning “sparkling” or “scorching.”

Egyptians knew the Star as Sothis. Sothis made her helical rise from the “Underworld” just before the annual flooding of the Nile signaling the Egyptian New Year.

Sothis is the Greek name for the Goddess Sopdhet, Our Lady of the New Year. She is also related to the Energy of Isis, and the Great Mother.

What I find especially interesting about this, is the feeling I have internally each year that this period, now, is the slow ramping up of the New Year. And it mirrors the lull many feel in midwinter, just after the traditional New Year begins.

It’s a time when I’m planning and planting seeds for the coming season of production that always feels as though it officially takes off at the Fall Equinox. (Which I believe is the Jewish New Year)

It’s made me wonder if any part of me had previous lifetimes in Egypt. And the memory of such is still embedded in my bones. I know I have in the land of Israel/Palestine.

When Sirius makes her yearly conjunction with the Sun at 14° Cancer, we have the opportunity to merge with Sirius/Sun energy.

She is of “the nature of Jupiter”. Expansive, spiritual, sweeping, exalted, philosophical, abundant, faithful, full of devotion. Sirius gives us honor, and people encoded with Her energy are often revered and renown. They are custodians and guardians of wisdom and care.

There is also thought to be a protective aspect to Sirius. That she helps people get ahead through protecting them from evil.

With Sirius’ relationship to the Great Mother, in the sign of Cancer, it’s a great time to tune into the energetics of the moment. How the atmosphere feels fully pregnant. Love, abundance, desire, satiation, holding, & slowness, all permeate the air.

This energetic, mirrors many aspects of the Static Feminine. The Great Round who holds and Gestates the World. The Womb. Can you feel that? Especially in the Northern Hemisphere.

     Yep, it’s that time of the month again. On June 21, at 7:08 PM MST, we have our sixth full moon of 2024. (Which means we’re halfway through the year!) This June full moon, known as the Strawberry Moon, is the first full moon of Summer (in the Northern Hemisphere).
