It's Just Djinn-etics - Raointean - Ms. Marvel (TV 2022) [Archive of Our Own]
We never really saw what happened when Aamir found out about the whole "Your great-grandmother was a djinn" thing (understandably so, as it would have seriously messed up the pacing), so I wrote it! Featuring Khan family adorableness

Ms. Marvel-ous!
Ms. Marvel (2022), created by Bisha K. Ali I’m not sure how this review is gonna go but go it must – this is it: my favorite! What happens on the show? Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) is an Avengers superfan. As such, the first-ever Avenger-con is a must! Unfortunately, Kamala is only 16 and her parents don’t support her skipping over to New York City to go to a ‘party.’ She sneaks out, has the…

Man, the multiverse saga is really messing with the very nature of reality. Like. It's not just parallel dimensions like Earth-838 or the Tobeyverse. There's also a ton of different eldritch realities superimposed over our own such as the Dark Dimension, the Noor Dimension, or Ta Lo. And, of course, the Quantum Realm.
This is some hiiiiiigh fantasy sci-fi shit, with a myriad of coexisting realities superimposed atop one another within a single universe of a vast infinite multiverse. All of which can interact with and bleed into each other through the multitude of extradimensional barriers that separate them from one another.
We are not in Kansas anymore.

IT'S MINECRAFT TIME AGAIN I said I might cook more minecraft stuff and I hath done it. A friend of mine asked if I would be designing the other default skins in minecraft as well, and the answer was YES
Summary of each of them is under the cut. If you don't want to be hit with a text wall then I'll see you in the next post when it comes out approximately 1,000 years from now!
Sunny:
Found by villagers, he was given to and raised by the village nitwit. He grew up into a kind, helpful, gentle young man, though despite his happy and carefree disposition, he is also quite wise and gives good advice to those who need it. He works as a fisherman, farmer, and general handyman for the iron golems in his village.
Efe:
A skilled swordswoman born in the Nether, and raised by wither skeletons. Witty, sarcastic, loyal, and a little dramatic are all words that describe her. There is an air of mystery about her though, given her strange immunity to wither an her occasional admissions of hearing whispers of the fallen Wither itself.
Noor:
Raised by pillagers, specifically an Evoker, Noor was raised a soldier. Serious, quiet, blunt and commanding, she has an intimidating presence even without considering her ability to use fangs.
Ari:
Ari was found and raised by a colony of monsters below ground. She grew up very self sufficient, kind, loving, and a little temperamental. Intelligent with her survival skills and friendly with her ability to make buddies wherever she goes, she adapts well to whatever situations she ends up in.
Makena:
Raised by a nomadic tribe of piglins. Known to be kind, quiet, reliable, gentle and slightly stern when she needs to be, she is loved by all who meet her. She has a special fondness for striders, given they were her tribe's mount of choice. She also loves traveling and seeing what all the dimensions have to offer.
Kai:
Stern and slightly grumpy since the day they spawned, they were a rare case of a builder appearing in the End, which they were found and raised by endermen. Kai's serious demeanor stuck with them as they grew up, but they also seemed quite frustrated and agitated sometimes given they didn't have the same capabilities as their enderman family members.
Zuri:
A funny, carefree and curious guy raised by a caravan of wandering traders. Zuri is truly the comic relief of the group, he doesn't have as good of survival skills or niche knowledge like the others do, but he sure is good at walking and he knows a wide array of items and their usage. He's also very good at haggling.

the marvels spoilers!!
- i missed carol so much 😭😭 i was so happy to see her again!! however, as a delusional caroljess shipper, this movie made me realize how much i want jessica drew in the mcu but the chances are slim
- is earth really the best choice for those skrulls to stay on after secret invasion???? the US president hates them and is also hunting them down just like the kree. but lol fury should've just asked new asgard to take them in during secret invasion instead of creating a giant mess and then ditching them
(i hope this means a certain mr teddy altman was among the skrull refugees who fled to earth but i'm just grasping at straws at this point)
- it's pretty funny that nia dacosta decided to ignore everything from secret invasion and we should too since i KNOW fury never brought up that he harvested carol's DNA. it would've made the movie much more awkward
- the khans and fury were way too funny together. muneeba was great, as always 🫶🏽 the best aunty
- the poor SABER agents escaping via FLURKITTIES lmaoo
- THE PRINCESS CAROL DRESS
- i can only imagine nakia and bruno's reactions when they find out about kamala's adventures
- carol and sam both live in louisiana now!! neighbors
- kamala and carol are so CUTE! they're twinsies ♥️
- carol restarting a sun...damn. i do wish more emphasis was placed on that since thor nearly died trying to restart nidavellir's sun
- no binary form though? :(
- the villain was kinda boring and i don't really understand the whole quantum bands connection with the noor dimension thing
- KAYT BEESHUP AHHHH
- not kate trying to act cool as if she and kamala don't have the same energy when speaking with their avenger idols (clint and carol should meet)
- but kamala channelling fury lol
- kate needs to get better security though since people keep breaking in into her apartment. first yelena and now kamala
- i don't necessarily want peter on the mcu young avengers/champions team, but i do want him to meet them. kamala found out about kate and cassie so she can find peter, an actual teenage avenger, too
- BEAST BEAST BEAST
- maria as BINARY!!!!
- the suit looked pretty cheap though, which sucks because the binary suit is one of my fav carol outfits from the comics.
- is maria in the fox universe or is it just a "x-men" universe??? anyway it's not 838 for sure since professor x and maria are both alive. however, it would be pretty funny for monica to visit 838 post-MoM since she tried so hard to help wanda and then wanda murdered her mom rip
- carol and kamala are both gutted about monica getting trapped in another universe, but america chavez can get her back pretty easily if they knew she existed. hmm, looks like kamala needs to find another young superhero
overall: 7.5/10

so the MCU Red Daggers:
a) based all over the world, but seem to be centered in South Asia. b) trying to stop a dimension from pouring into their own through spacetime even tho c) they seem to have only normal weapons and tech, though some may be a little advanced and also d) despite their fight against the Noor dimension, they have no problem working with people who use Noor powers/tech or have Noor ancestry.
Also since the Red Daggers Kareem introduces her to (im assuming the teens at the bonfire were other Red Daggers tho that's conjecture) are p young, and also the way that they knew the Clandestine Ayesha had the bangle but weren't aware that it had since been handed to Sana - the one who actually was in Karachi - implies they had a pretty big base in India and might still have it.
Where am I going with all this?? So. You know who would be the perfect fit. For a young South Asian kid with spacetime powers that the Red Daggers would want on their side bc he basically let's them warp all over the world with less than a thought???
Tumblr media
QURESHI GUPTA.
The man. The myth. The legend. The twelve year old whose name I absolutely fucking hate bc it's a family name not a given name but it finally makes sense it's bc his parents weren't from EARTH-
Anyways skipping away to write fics where the Red Daggers are dealing with the ripple effects of all the jump points leaving the Noor unstable and giving a random kid powers and Kamran empathizing with him even as he uncovers a conspiracy about the Noor dimension and it's escapees-

Oh i know her mutant powers are there and are those. But the hard light in the comics doesn't come from the noor, is what i meant. That's why i was asking.
The Clandestine storyline in the mcu is just a stand-in for a storyline about the inhumans. Season 1 of Ms Marvel is based on the Crushed arc from the comics, which heavily featured the inhumans.
Noor is an Arabic word (outside of its Islamic origins), which translates to light in English. It's just a descriptor for how Kamala's powers look either way. It's like Kamala sometimes saying Red Dagger or Laal Khanjeer in reference to Kareem. It means the same thing.
Kamala is a mutant in the comics. This means her powers originate the same way as the other 100000000 x-men. There are no set x-men in the mcu to explain Kamala's powers, so they had to use the Noor Dimension and the Clandestines and all those things. Doesn't make sense to use it in the comics. The x-men exist, and she's been an inhuman for 10 years and she's heavily explored that part of her.

“Home Again, Home Again; Jiggity-Jig”
Silence. Dust. Stagnant air.
Months of absence had led to an eerie stillness within the Sanctum Sanctorum. Had anyone dared to illegally enter, they would've found an empty space that even ghost would think twice about inhabiting.
From within the shadows spawned a widening circle of magical sparks, slicing through reality like a spinning scythe. Seconds after its appearance, Doctor Stephen Strange sprang through the glowing portal as if launched.
The sorcerer tumbled until he came to a sudden stop against a bookshelf. He groaned and cursed as he rolled to a sitting position, watching the portal seal itself.
"We did it," Strange said as the last spark of eldritch energy dissipated. He got to his feet, and the Cloak of Levitation lifted from his shoulders, floated a few feet away, and then shook violently to free itself of its dusty coating gathered from the floor.
"Now, to figure out how long we've actually been gone," Strange thought aloud before coughing and waving the cloud of dust from his face. "Thanks for that. Let's get some of these windows open and air this place out."
Thirty minutes later, magical constructs were working feverishly to clean the Sanctum while Strange and the recently-arrived Sorcerer Supreme, Wong, chatted and walked through the Sanctum to check for signs of disrepair.
"Six months? Six goddamn months!? I tracked the days in Otherworld; it had to be at least a year!"
"Time moves differently there, Strange; you know that."
"That last stretch from the Green Chapel to the Portal was rough; Le Fay's armies had the most viable paths fortified.  If it wasn't for King Oberon and his forces, I wouldn't have made it back."
"Morgan Le Fay?" Wong's eyes widened slightly at the mention of the ancient sorceress.  "That's a name I haven't heard in a while."
"Yeah..." Stephen's eyes hinted at a deeper story that he was, as yet, unwilling to tell.  "She was...strenuously intent on keeping me in Otherworld indefinitely."
"Do I even want to know how you ended up there in the first place?"
"It was...a miscalculation. I was attempting to create a multidimensional portal so we wouldn't have to rely on America's powers so much. I was certain I had the incantations down, but..."
"I should list to you the different varieties of foolish you were for trying that, but I suspect you know them by now.  We'll have to strengthen the hex field of that dimension's barriers.  More work for me and the acolytes; thanks for that," Wong sighed.
"Always happy to help," Strange remarked with a smirk.  "Missed ya, buddy."
Wong simply grunted, but he couldn't help but reveal a slight smile of acknowledgment.
"Did I miss anything interesting?"
"The Noor Bangle has been found; an 18-year-old girl in Jersey City is bonded with it."
"Naturally."
"The Avatar of Khonshu was spotted several times in London and Cairo."
"Maybe I should've just stayed in Otherworld," Strange sighed, struggling to wrap his head around the snippets of news.
"There's more," Wong said as he followed Strange into the kitchen.
"Not on an empty stomach," Strange replied with a dismissive handwave as he opened the refrigerator. "Hungry? I'm STARVING."
"No, thank you; I need to get back to Kamar-Taj to consult with the other Masters and prepare for the consequences of whatever you may have, or may not have, done in Otherworld."
"You're so trusting, Wong. Really warms my heart."
Wong grunted in exasperation before drawing open a portal to his chambers, where a woman wrapped in a fleece blanket sat, waiting for him.
"WONGERS! Oh my GOD, you were taking FOREVER! Hurry up; we gotta start Season 3 of Breaking Bad!!! I've almost eaten this whole bowl of popcorn already!"
Wong sighed, then looked at Strange with cautioning eyes.  "Not a word, Strange."
"I'm sorry, but..."Wongers"?"  Stephen repeated in a mixture of disbelief and intense amusement.
"I'm leaving now." Wong charged through the portal in a hurried pace.
"Oh! Buh-bye, sorcerer guy!" The woman called out as the portal sealed itself.
"'Wongers'. That almost makes everything worth it," Strange observed aloud.

It's Just a Game - Raointean - Marvel Cinematic Universe [Archive of Our Own]
"Although, when Aamir really thought about it, it didn’t make sense that all “non-human blood” would show up as superpowers. That sounded like something straight out of a comic book!"
During the Marvels, Aamir stumbles upon an archeology lab on the S.A.B.E.R. Space station and learns that, just because he doesn't have superpowers, doesn't mean he's 100% human.

The Symbolism and Significance of Diamond Jewelry in Different Cultures
Tumblr media
Introduction
Diamonds have captivated human imagination for centuries, symbolizing various ideals across different cultures. From representing purity and strength to signifying eternal love, the allure of diamonds transcends borders. This blog delves into the rich symbolism and cultural significance of diamond jewelry worldwide, highlighting the emerging trend of lab diamond jewelry.
Diamonds in Ancient Civilizations
In ancient India, diamonds were considered talismans that offered protection and strength. Worn by warriors into battle, they were believed to imbue the wearer with invincibility. The Romans, too, cherished diamonds, adorning themselves with these precious stones as symbols of wealth and power.
European Traditions
Europe has a storied history with diamonds, particularly within royal circles. The British Crown Jewels, for example, include some of the world's most famous diamonds, such as the Koh-i-Noor. The tradition of giving diamond engagement rings began in Europe, with Archduke Maximilian of Austria presenting one to Mary of Burgundy in 1477. This tradition has since evolved, with modern designs now often featuring lab diamond jewelry, which offers the same brilliance and durability as natural diamonds.
Diamonds in Asian Cultures
In China and Japan, diamonds have historically been used in various cultural rituals and believed to bring good fortune. In India, diamonds play a crucial role in weddings, symbolizing eternal love and commitment. The tradition of gifting diamond jewelry during significant life events remains strong, with an increasing shift towards lab diamond jewelry due to its ethical and sustainable attributes.
African Heritage
Africa is home to some of the world's most famous diamond mines, profoundly impacting local cultures and economies. Diamonds have traditionally been used in African cultures to signify status and wealth. Today, there's a growing awareness of the ethical implications of diamond mining, leading to a rise in the popularity of lab diamond jewelry, which ensures conflict-free sourcing and supports local economies without the environmental toll of traditional mining.
Diamonds in Modern Western Culture
In modern Western culture, diamond engagement rings symbolize love and commitment. This trend was popularized in the United States during the mid-20th century, thanks in part to De Beers' iconic "A Diamond is Forever" campaign. Hollywood celebrities continue to influence diamond jewelry trends, with lab diamond jewelry gaining popularity for its eco-friendly and ethical advantages, appealing to a new generation of consumers.
Cultural Symbols and Meanings
Across different cultures, diamonds are universally associated with strength, purity, and eternal love. In some cultures, diamonds are also believed to have healing properties and bring good fortune. The emergence of lab diamond jewelry has introduced new dimensions to these symbolic meanings, combining traditional beliefs with modern values of sustainability and ethical sourcing.
Ethical Considerations and Modern Perspectives
The diamond industry has faced scrutiny over ethical issues related to conflict diamonds. This has led to a significant shift towards lab diamond jewelry, which is created in controlled environments and guarantees conflict-free origins. Lab diamonds offer the same physical and chemical properties as natural diamonds, ensuring that consumers do not have to compromise on quality or ethics.
Choosing Diamond Jewelry with Cultural Significance
When selecting diamond jewelry, it's essential to consider the cultural significance and personal symbolism attached to the piece. Lab diamond jewelry offers a modern and ethical option that respects traditional values while embracing contemporary concerns for sustainability. Whether for an engagement, a wedding, or a significant milestone, choosing lab diamond jewelry can reflect a deep appreciation for both cultural heritage and modern ethical standards.
Conclusion
The timeless appeal of diamonds spans cultures and centuries, symbolizing a myriad of ideals from strength and purity to eternal love. As the world evolves, so do our values and preferences. Lab diamond jewelry represents a perfect blend of traditional symbolism and modern ethics, offering a sustainable and conflict-free alternative that honors the rich history and significance of diamonds. Embrace the cultural richness and contemporary relevance of diamonds, and let their brilliance continue to inspire and enchant across generations.

Hey! I don’t know the comics super well - why is Iman so insistent that MCU isn’t Earth-616?
Honestly she's just messing with Kevin lol.
But initially the MCU was coined earth-199999 to differentiate it from earth-616 (which is main comics continuity). So she's saying that calling another universe earth-616 such as the mcu destroys the sanctity of the concept of 616. Also the mcu is different from 616 so calling it another number suggests that within the mcu there's a world somewhere in the multiverse where earth-616 exists and all the decades of comic history exists and the mcu characters could one day even visit that earth.
She's correct though. The mcu is special in its own way and main comics continuity is special in its way but both are VERY different from each other. So they should have different designations.
If you mean specific examples one is ofc Kamala is an inhuman with stretchy powers and she emerged from the terrigen cocoon in earth-616.
But in earth-199999 / mcu she's a djinn from the Noor dimension with super pretty purple light based powers. And she's a mutant.

This weekend I finally had a bunch of old film developed and started to scan it. These photos were taken on a trip to New Orleans with my mom and brother last winter. The last one is my brother holding a baby alligator on a "gator tour" thing. This work feels like it has a more intimate dimension to it than most of what I've shown and I would like to keep exploring this direction as part of the project. I'm going to a discussion between painter Brayan Ramales and artist Frank Dorrey at Whaam this wednesday so I'm planning on doing the reflection on that. - Noor
