Bariatric Endoscopy Treatment in Ludhiana: A Revolutionary Approach to Weight Loss
Tumblr media
Obesity has become a global health issue, and in India, it is increasingly recognized as a significant concern. While traditional weight loss methods like diet control and exercise are effective, they may not always provide the long-term results needed for severe cases of obesity. Struggling with obesity can significantly impact your health and quality of life. Fortunately, advancements in medical technology have introduced innovative solutions like Bariatric Endoscopy In Ludhiana, Dr. Nitin Behl, one of the best gastro and liver doctors in Punjab, specializes in bariatric endoscopy treatment, helping patients achieve significant weight loss and improve their quality of life. This innovative procedure is ideal for those who are looking for a non-surgical option to manage obesity and its associated health risks.
What is Bariatric Endoscopy?
Bariatric endoscopy is a modern, minimally invasive procedure designed to aid in weight loss. It is often used for patients who are severely obese and looking for an alternative to traditional weight-loss surgery. The procedure involves the use of an endoscope—a flexible tube with a camera attached—to perform various weight-loss interventions inside the stomach, without the need for major surgery.
This treatment method is particularly beneficial for individuals who are not eligible for traditional weight-loss surgery due to health conditions or other concerns. Bariatric endoscopy can help patients lose weight, reduce obesity-related complications like diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea, and improve their overall well-being.
How Bariatric Endoscopy Works
There are several techniques used in bariatric endoscopy, with some of the most popular being:
Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG): This procedure involves using an endoscope to place sutures in the stomach, reducing its size and shaping it into a sleeve-like structure. By limiting the stomach's capacity, it helps patients feel full sooner, thus reducing food intake and promoting weight loss.
Intragastric Balloon: A balloon is inserted into the stomach via endoscopy and then inflated to take up space in the stomach. This helps patients feel fuller for longer periods, thereby reducing their appetite and aiding in weight loss.
Endoscopic Gastric Plication: This involves folding the stomach and using sutures to reduce its volume, effectively limiting the amount of food a patient can consume at once.
These procedures are generally done under sedation, and patients can return to their normal activities in a shorter period compared to traditional bariatric surgery.
Why Choose Dr. Nitin Behl for Bariatric Endoscopy in Ludhiana?
Dr. Nitin Behl's commitment to patient-centered care and extensive experience with weight-loss procedures makes him a leader in Bariatric Endoscopy in Ludhiana. ˖˙ ꔫ — FEELS LIKE SUNSHINE ˚
Tumblr media
꒰ synopsis : you’ve been having a tough time but kuroo is there to take care of you and remind you how loved you are. this fic is very indulgent so thank you for reading ❤︎ ꒱
꒰ contents : kuroo tetsuro x f!reader ; negative beginning but happy ending, hurt/comfort, non sexual nudity, use of pet names (sweetheart, beautiful, my girl) sappy at the end lol — WC : 1.8k ꒱
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Long day?” Kuroo asks, holding you close as you start to settle back home. The familiarity is swirling around you, yet you’ve never felt so out of place. You can’t even grace his question with an answer.
The world was muddled, gray. All of the colors around you felt muted and wilted away without the joy the sun brings.
It wasn’t often you felt like this, but in light of recent events, it’s become your new normal. A blanket of barbed wire wrapped around your shoulders, never letting you rest or relax completely.
You could see the look on his face, the worry etching along his beautiful features twisting the knife in your stomach, nausea rising up your throat. The buildup of bile threatened to spill out and you were choking back the words you desperately wished to say.
Life had a nasty habit of floating out of your grasp, the good things slipping through your fingers and leaving you holding nothing but vacant space, wondering what happened.
It wasn’t that your life had lack of love or enjoyment, but today all of it felt miles away as you’re faced with your reflection — everything bad staring back at you that makes you want to shrivel up and hide away, covering the mirror up in hopes it was all an illusion.
Insecurity and self-doubt chip away at you, taunting you as false memories try to validate all your worst demons, all boiling down to one simple thing.
The absence of hope.
The loss of light that causes darkness to flood in, sticky and invasive, a parasite that latches onto your flesh and bones, tormenting your mind with its lies that only selfishly feed into its lifespan.
Breaking out of it can be a terrible thing. It can hurt like hell — feel like it too as you rip apart something that’s glommed onto your skin and drains you of all the goodness you still desperately tried to hold onto.
But his touch helps bring you back. The gentle brush of his fingers along your cheek refocuses all of your thoughts — attention landing right back onto him.
“That bad, huh?” Kuroo gives a small smile, one that plants a seed of hope back into your body. The little joy he carries on his face as he looks at you warms and nurtures it, the feeling beginning to bloom and blossom into a rebirth. “Aw, come here, sweetheart.”
The hug he gives you grounds you, pushing all the spiraling pieces of your mind back together, his love consuming you as his arms wrap around your body.
“Just been a little rough lately.” You mumble, cheek resting against his chest, the sound of his steady heartbeat a calming beacon of hope. After the agony of sailing alone in the dark for so long, your lighthouse stands tall, looking for you at every mile.
“I know.” He kisses the top of your head, giving you an extra squeeze. “But I've got you.”
“You don’t have to.” Self-sabotage floods your veins, your hands already trying to push against him, your body pulling away as you’d do anything to keep him from barring the weight you carried on your shoulders.
Kuroo lets you get some space, but you still feel his light touch you. The soft expression he had, the way his fingers twitched with need, already itching to have you back in his arms.
“I want to.” Not an ounce of hesitation wavered in his voice and you blink back a tear, desperately trying to hold your ground.
You wanted to give in so, so badly. But the thought of having anyone feel an ounce of what you felt scared the shit out of you. A last-ditch effort to protect them from you and all the hurt you held.
“I don't want to burden you.” The confession is but a whisper, secretly hoping that he didn’t hear you. But he does, he always takes it in and understands you even when your voice shakes.
“You couldn’t burden me even if you tried.” The fondness in his promise almost scared you, your walls screaming to be put back up. But you knew it was a lost cause, he was nothing if not persistent.
“But-“
“And even if you could,” he pauses, smoothing his palms over your cheeks and down your shoulders, pressing a lingering kiss on your forehead, speaking his next words against your skull as if your brain would be forced to take them in. “Then please, please burden me.”
“What—“ He cuts you off before you can try to doubt his plea.
“I’ve chosen, committed to loving you. All of you, no matter what. We’re a team, remember? So, burden me.” The fiery intensity in his amber eyes shows you there’s not an ounce of doubt, no hesitation to what he just admitted. It tugs at your heart in all the right ways.
His forehead leans against yours, gazing down at you with all the love and care in the world that it makes you feel silly for ever doubting it. The lingering feelings remain, something deep down inside of you that wants to come out.
“Tetsu, I don't even know where to start.” your voice is still small, vulnerability creeping up on you, pressing down on your back as you fall deeper into his embrace.
“Then why don’t we get a little more comfortable?” Kuroo asks, innocently enough. “Pouring out your heart out in the front foyer doesn’t seem ideal now does it?”
“No.” You shake your head, a hint of a smile lining your lips. The slight twitch fills Kuroo's heart with hope. He gently takes your hand, leading you further into your shared apartment.
He’s quiet for a moment and you wonder if he’s feeling the weight you carry on your shoulders through the mere act of holding hands. Before you can slip through his fingers, he holds on tighter, tugging you forward so he can wrap his arm around your shoulder instead.
“What do you say, beautiful? Take a bath, order some takeout, and maybe tell me what’s going on in that pretty little head of yours?” His other hand reaches up, gently booping you on your forehead, followed by the tip of your nose.
“Yeah.” The light begins to seep back into your soul the more you melt into his side, tucked away from the ugly thoughts that were invading your space these past few days.
To say you were lucky was an understatement. To have someone who’s willing to sit with you for as long as it takes until you muster up the courage to speak about your troubles is more than you could ever ask for.
The patience and care that exudes from the man beside you is almost infectious. Love pours from every word and every action he commits, flooding the walls of your heart until you have no choice but to open the doors and let him fully consume you. It only makes it easier knowing that he’s held the key all along.
“Get in there.” Kuroo smirks, jerking his head to the drawn bath, a waft of lavender filling your nose – the kind he knew you always loved. It crinkles your nose just right, scrunching it up in a blissful state that catches the sparkle of Kuroo’s bright eyes. Everything looked beautiful and your heart has never felt so warm, so cherished.
One of your favorite things about this apartment was the bathroom, as silly as it sounds. The high rise you lived in left big windows in every room, this one being no exception. The city lights shone beyond, letting you gaze out into the world when it didn’t have the opportunity to look back.
It’s amazing how one moment you can feel so down in the depths of despair but looking out at the window from this height serves as a reminder of how far up from the bottom you are. The progress you’ve made doesn’t become exempt the moment things start getting tough again, it’s merely another test that aims to show you how far you’ve truly come.
As you crawl into the warm water of the tub, letting the bubbles soak away your worries and sing you melodies of relaxation, Kuroo goes the extra mile. Because of course he does. There were a few candles you kept in the linen closet for nights when you two wanted to have a romantic bath. He lights them anyway, adding to the cozy ambience, and your heart soars at the thoughtful gesture.
“Are you planning on joining me?” You ask, eyes on him, watching him scurry around the small space to make things perfect. His head whips around to you, gaze softening once again before something mischievous swims his golden irises.
“I thought you’d never ask.” Kuroo quickly takes off his clothes, not giving you nearly enough time to admire his toned body before he slipped in behind you, sturdy arms holding you flush against him. “There, now we’re all nice and cozy.”
“Thank you, Tetsu.” You sigh a breath of relief that had been trapped somewhere deep within, locked away with a key that had been thought to be lost. Leaning back against his shoulder, you realize how much you needed this — him.
His syrupy sweet lips brush against your head like the sun kissing the horizon as it rises once again. It fills you with warmth, support, gratitude. Everything wonderful in this world birthed from a simple kiss that held all the love you needed.
“You can always lean on me, I won’t ever let you fall.” Kuroo’s voice is softer than usual, a tone reserved for you and these tender moments when you need a little extra gentleness. The tender, reassuring words cradle around your ear and hold your heart steady as his arms loop around you, securing you in place. “I promise.”
You know your thanks will fall on deaf ears, that this simple task he’s doing for you is no sweat off his back. The only thing he craves to hear from you is your acceptance, your willingness to let him in so you can tackle everything together like the power couple you were meant to be.
“Okay.” You whisper out into the soft-lit room, letting the atmosphere of love and bubbles consume you, melting away your troubles like the wax that drips from the candles. “I will.”
“That’s my girl.” Without even seeing his face, you know he’s smiling. A proud grin he notoriously wears like his finest suit whenever he finally achieves his goals. The one he knew he’d sport in only a matter of time after he broke down your stubborn walls once again.
Tender hands rub along your arms, his lips brushing along your head as he hums to the tune that never fails to make you smile right back. The song you would often sing to each other in the sweet moments in your life whether it be slow dancing in the kitchen as dinner cooks, or moments like these where you’re tucked away from the rest of the world to be reminded just how much your souls are tied together.

ok I think I’ve played enough of the dlc where I feel like I can talk about it now and lift my spoilers embargo… overall I had SO much fun!! there’s so much to love about it and only a few things I didn’t like! more detailed thoughts under the cut:
Gameplay-wise, I thought almost every single boss was fun and rewarding to fight… my faves were Divine Beast Dancing Lion (best ost in the entire game by miles), Rellana, and Messmer. I also really loved the exploration?? My favorite kind of games are the ones where you have to sniff out every corner of the map in order to find hidden paths forward… the fact that you have to really poke around to find huge areas of the map, and how the traversal is so layered and non-linear, was THRILLING to me!! so much more interesting than the base game!!
Story-wise, what spoke to me the most was everything about the Hornsent… Belurat was my first legacy dungeon, and I was so wowed by the gorgeous unique architecture and the sheer desolation of the place that it really stayed with me. Both the environment and the Hornsent NPCs do such a great job of conveying the pain and tragedy of what happened to them, while at the same time, not simplifying them into some kind of faultless utopia… their society was proud and harsh and cruel (not just to others, but to their own people), but it was also bursting with art and culture, and it was home to everyday people who made delicious stew for their loved ones:
Tumblr media
“Scorpion simmered in a black soup. Traditional meal of the hornsent. Once made with love by a certain elderly woman for the family table. Having long gone cold, this soup gives off a rank, sour smell.”
Some of my very favorite NPCS were the Hornsent Grandam and Hornsent (the guy); I thought their quests told such poignant stories about loss and the meaning of justice and revenge (I especially think Hornsent’s quest complements Marika’s story so well!!). The way they portrayed this civilization’s downfall was so beautiful and tragic!
Also the fact that the NPCs talk during combat is SO GOOD??? At first I was kind of annoyed that I had to summon Hornsent for Messmer’s boss fight to do his quest, but in the end I was so glad I did because his dialogue during and after the fight is incredible!! plus the NPCs talking to EACH OTHER during the Leda invasions?? and need I mention IGON… this is the real best new addition they made to the game
Now for the one big fat thing I didn’t like….
Tumblr media
so I had actually heard about the leaks before playing the game and was like ok. if this is true theyre gonna have to really justify this to me because my initial impression is uhhh. lol??? And now that I can confidently say that I’ve combed the game top to bottom for pieces of this story, I really dont think the game succeeds at justifying Radahn’s appearance?
What I mean by “justify” is that, in my opinion, if you’re gonna bring back a fan-favorite character who was previously dead, and not have it come off as cheap fanservice, it needs to feel like this character’s presence matters — that they have the necessary buildup, that their appearance has a significant weight to it, and that their screentime fleshes them out as a person in a meaningful way. I don’t think the dlc achieves this at all with Radahn. Yes, his appearance is directly foreshadowed if you do Freyja and Ansbach’s quests, but it isn’t enough to just state in advance that he’ll show up… my problem is that, even with these NPCs’ dialogue, Radahn feels like a total non-person. We hear almost nothing about what his thoughts or feelings about this situation might’ve been (just Freyja’s assertion that he would have approved of “endless war, to invigorate the soul”). We get plenty of insight into Miquella’s character because there’s so much material about him, but there just isn’t the same investment into Radahn’s character, which makes his triumphant return fall really flat for me.
I think for me what would’ve appropriately justified Radahn returning is if Freyja gave us more details about who Radahn was as a commander during the Shattering… like, some jumping-off point to really get a sense of what his motivations might’ve been… OR, they could’ve even added another Redmane NPC with views on Radahn that conflict with Freyja’s (there is literally a minor boss, the Red Bear, who was stated to have been a Redmane!!!)… what’s still a mystery is why Malenia tried to kill Radahn, and why he resisted, and the DLC doesn’t give us any concrete information about Radahn’s actions or goals during the Shattering that would have caused this. They don’t have to spell it out for us!! I just needed SOME attempt to engage with Radahn’s character in the DLC material if they’re literally gonna bring him back from the dead!! Because as it stands, he shows up and fights us without a word or even an expression, like a glorified action figure!!! it’s LAME!!!!!
totally loved the DLC except for that part. anyway stan Elder Inquisitor Jori

Hi there! And welcome to the fandom! The Zelda games are just about my favorite thing ever and LU is so so much fun
Also no need to apologize! You’re not bothering me at all! I’m always happy to talk loz hehe.
I’m gonna put the rest of the post under the cut cause it’s gonna be long. Also I don’t know they’re exact ages so I’m just gonna go off of general vibes
(All image credits to @/linkeduniverse)
Time
Tumblr media
Games: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask
Description: The oldest in the Chain (no one knows his true age save for himself and Malon and neither are telling), this time traveling hero saved both Hyrule and the parallel world of Termina in his youth. In the process, he accidentally split the timeline into three. He carries a lot of baggage as a result of the many losses he has experienced, though he has found peace in his love for his wife Malon.
Warriors
Tumblr media
Games: Hyrule Warriors (the first one)
Description: The only Link in the Chain who’s from a non-canon game (it’s canon to us), Warriors faced the horrors the battlefield when the evil sorceress Cia invaded his Hyrule. He may not have ever stepped inside of a true dungeon, but he’s an expert strategist. Though it’s not canon in LU, a lot of us hc that he knows Time from the war (Time was a playable character in the Definitive Edition of the game).
He is likely close to Twilight in age. These two are the second oldest in the group
Twilight
Tumblr media
Games: Twilight Princess
Description: A ranch hand and descendant of the Hero of Time, Twilight faced the Twilight Invasion with Midna. With the shadow crystal he wears on a band around his neck he can transform into a fierce wolf. Really, he’s a big softy though. He adores his adoptive family in Ordon Village and is a big brother to the kids.
In LU Wild knows him because of the Wolf Link amiibo companion in Breath of the Wild.
Sky
Tumblr media
Games: Skyward Sword
Description: As very first hero, Sky became a self-fulfilling prophecy when he dove from Skyloft to the Surface to save his best friend Zelda. Don’t let his penchant for napping fool you. As kind and empathetic as he is fierce and relentless, Sky is a trained knight and a master swordsman. He knew the spirit within the Master Sword and honed the weapon into the brilliant blade the heroes after him wielded against Ganondorf.
Wild
Tumblr media
Games: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom
Description: Once a stalwart knight with the weight of the world upon his shoulders, Wild perished during the fall of his Hyrule and awoke 100 years later without any memory of his previous life. (I take it back, Wild’s the oldest in the Chain not Time XD). A survivalist with a knack for cooking and a penchant for chaos (and feats of engineering), Wild is every bit as competent as his companions. However, he faults himself for the destruction of Hyrule and suffers insecurity because of it.
Legend
Tumblr media
Games: A Link to the Past, Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons, A Link Between Worlds, and Link’s Awakening
Description: He’s called the veteran for a reason. The last in the line of knights who serve the royal family, Legend’s done it all and more. He collects all manner of items and is ready for just about any situation. He has a passion for adventuring and takes pride in his station as hero. But his last adventure to the island of Koholint left him with a broken heart and regrets. He can come off as sarcastic and even rude, but he has a soft heart.
Though young, he is extremely capable.
Hyrule
Tumblr media
Games: Legend of Zelda ‘86, Adventure of Link
Description: Born into a world ravaged by evil, Hyrule’s resourcefulness, courage, and stubborn resolve have taken him far. He is experienced with both combat and magic and can transform into a fairy via a spell. Humble and caring, he tends of underestimate himself despite his immense skill.
Four
Tumblr media
Games: Four Swords, Minish Cap
Description: Collected and level-headed, Four excels at teamwork. This comes from ample experience during his adventure wielding the Four Sword which divides him into four. He is a smith like his grandfather. He possesses the ability to see the Minish, magical beings that can usually only be detected by children. Though still in his teen years, he displays maturity in his interactions with his companions.
Wind
Tumblr media
Games: Wind Waker (maybe Phantom Hourglass and/or Spirit Tracks, as well??)
Description: He may the youngest of the heroes but he is nothing if not competent. Spirited, compassionate, and brave , Wind isn’t afraid to kick butt. The kidnapping of his beloved sister Aryll set him on a journey across the seas covering what once was the Hero of Time’s Hyrule. With the pirate princess Tetra, he defeated Ganondorf and saved not only his home, Outset Island, but the world.

Chap 12. Melancholy Natures, Queer Ecologies by Catriona Mortimer-Sandilands (part 3, final)
Queer Ecologies
‘what it might mean to inhabit the natural world having been transformed by the experience of its loss’?
‘[the queer artist's] natures are not saved wildernesses; they are wrecks, barrens, cutovers, nuclear power plants: unlikely refuges and impossible gardens. But they are also sites for extraordinary reflection on life, beauty, and community’ (344)
AIDS and Other Clear-Cuts
The artist (Jan Zita Grover’s North Enough) writes about moving from San Francisco, where she has worked as a personal caregiver to many individuals who were dying, and died of, AIDS, eventually to the woods of Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota hoping for ‘a geographic cure’ to her burnout and grief. (344)
‘in their persistence [grief, mourning], generate a form of imagination—an awareness of the persistence of loss—that allows her to conceive of the natural world around her in ways that challenge the logic of commodity substitution characterizing contemporary relations of nature consumption” (344)
“The north woods did not provide me with a geographic cure. But they did something much finer. Instead of ready-made solutions, they offered me an unanticipated challenge, a spiritual discipline: to appreciate them, I needed to learn how to see their scars, defacement, and artificiality and then beyond those to their strengths—their historicity, the difficult beauties that underlay their deformity.  AIDS, I believe, prepared me to perform these imaginative feats. In learning to know and love the north woods, not as they are fancied but as they are, I discovered the lessons that AIDS had taught me and became grateful for them” (344)
Rather than the landscape of her dreams, the land looks more like a candidate for reclamation. Through Grover’s research we learn that the region is one that been ‘systematically abused: logged several times, drained, subjected to failed attempts at agriculture, depleted, abandoned, eroded, invaded, neglected.”
Tumblr media
Jack pines are predominant in the region; tenacious, ‘the first conifers to reestablish themselves after a fire” (16), in their own way remarkable even as they are useless for lumber, short lived, and not at all the sorts of trees about which adjectives like ‘breathtaking’ circulate” (345) they are a loud testament to the violence that has generated them.
“the diminishment of this landscape mortified and disciplined me. Its scars will outlast me, bearing witness for decades beyond my death to the damage done here” (20) But still: the love emerges, painfully, gradually, intimately. (345)
She experiences the landscape in terms of loss and change, rather than idyll and replacement. It is all personal; it is all about developing a way of making meaning that recognizes the singularities of the past and takes responsibility for the future in the midst of intimate devastation. (345)
‘Environmental hubris’—fly fishing, the introduction of non-native fish to the river, changing temperatures of rivers caused by logging and diversion; specific policies, politics, and technologies that have had effects on the rivers, the fish, and the other species throughout the river and the north woods (356)
A refusal to demonize the ‘invasive’ species; Grover herself is ‘invasive’ both culturally and personally (white settlers and big city imports) thus her ethical claim is not for purity but for an active and thoughtful remembering of historical violences in the midst of ongoing necessity of movement and change (346)
Seek relationships with Clear-cuts and landfills in order to bring to the foreground the massive weight of human devastation of the natural world; “a discerning eye can see how unstewarded most of this land has been. The charm lies in finding ways to love with such loss and pull from it what beauties remain” (81) (347)
“she does not romanticize the dying even as she might mourn their loss to the world; instead [through Grover] we witness each loss as particular, irrevocable, and concrete: she is their witness” (347)
Can we learn to see these landscapes as creation as well as destruction?
Rather than mourn the loss of the pristine, she carefully cultivates an attitude of appreciation of what lies before her, beyond the aesthetic wilderness to the intricate details of human interactions with the species and landscapes of the region. In this manner she comes to be able to find the beauty in, for example, landfills and clearcuts; far from naivete or technophilia, this ability is grounded in a commitment to recognizing the simultaneity of death and life in these landscapes, the glut of aspen-loving birds in the clear-cut, the swallows, turkey vultures, and bald eagles near the landfill.

It is necessary to face our fear and pain; we have to make room in our relationships with the natural world, queer and otherwise, for the recognition that that is what we might be feeling in the first place (355)

Like Giants
Humans, Gods, and the Timelord caught between them:
AKA the beautifully optimistic view of humanity by a Time Lord
Nine says he would make a very bad God. Ten says a Time Lord with too much power would become vengeful.
They’re both right.
Time Lords are alluded to as very uncaring, very aloof people. By the Time War, they are apparently just as bad as the Daleks. The Doctor runs from them for a reason.
Because when they are Gods they are terrifying. But the Doctor’s terror always stems from too much emotion rather than too little. The end of Dalek is Nine’s darkest moment. He holds a gun on Rose while she is showing mercy because of the traumatic loss of Gallifrey.
Loss makes Ten in particular…frightening. After losing Rose he nearly commits genocide again in the Runaway Bride.
The moment of Godlike arrogance in “Christmas Invasion” where he changes the known future of Harriet Jones’ tenure has devastating consequences, allowing the Master to come to power. It’s a great reminder of what happens when the Doctor is given too much power.
The Time Lord Victorious is terrifying because it is the Doctor losing everything over and over after rebuilding himself twice.
For the first time, the Doctor feels like he is owed something.
But what is also terrifying is just how human the selfishness is.
—————
Of course there are moments when they are presented as Godlike that are purely heroic.
Ten’s in particular stand out against his almost unnerving humanity.
I love his “I’m the Doctor” speech in Voyage of the Damned. It’s clearly him doing the equivalent of psyching himself up before a game, because nothing he says is going to mean anything to the people he’s protecting. It’s a short, simple moment holding so much weight.
Nine has a wonderful way of pointing out the best of humanity to help Rose discover space to find empowerment, just as Ten does for Donna. Nine does it for the couple in Father’s Day. There’s a wistful, non-malicious envy in his reaction to the magically mundane story of how the couple in the church met.
Ten takes this wistfulness and runs with it. There’s something so beautiful and so deeply tragic that he is the Doctor who chooses shoes meant specifically for running.
There’s this sense with Ten that he not only loves humanity, but desires to be human. From embracing certain forms of domesticity, to the devastating way he processes grief.
Obviously, he knows when he is weird, he also just doesn’t care about social niceties. However, he might be a genius, but he doesn’t understand every intricate detail of human experience.
Although it’s usually called out for comedy, it’s best utilized for drama.
Nine has that beautiful “It was scared!” moment.
Sometimes it’s given less focus, and simply slipped into dialogue.
Nine calls humans stupid apes in high stress situations, and apparently he insults species when he’s upset. Even Ten, who is known to love humanity, also pretty regularly disparages them. In his first appearance he calls us monsters. He makes one-off comments disparaging humans in Rise of the Cyberman, Army of Ghosts, 42, Human Nature. and the Poison Sky.
Planet of the Ood is one of the rarer times that he goes out of his way to highlight human cruelty to Donna.
————
Series 3 has lot of interesting moments.
In “Smith and Jones” he has a long scene which he (intentionally) pretends to be human. He creates this domestic fantasy where he’s got a wife and a home where he brings people round for dinner. Even more interesting is that this is his suggestion to “help” the villain appear more human.
In Human Nature we see the Doctor literally become a human. He falls in love and allows himself to be a product of the times. His moments of heroism are supposed to be the Doctor leaking through, but are passed over off as “ordinary humans being capable of extraordinary things”. He also allows himself to be swept up by the environment as opposed to standing against it as the Doctor would. John Smith’s incredibly horrible treatment of Martha being the prime example.*
His stoic and remorseless punishment of the Family contrasts with his mostly sweet human persona. He tries to convince Joan that he’s capable of the same love and compassion but she disagrees. I agree with her, I think John Smith and The Doctor both want to be in love, John just didn’t have all the emotional inhibitions that the Doctor does.
She also points out the Doctor’s failure to account for possible casualties just so he doesn’t have to have more death on his conscious. Once again, I agree, this was a massive oversight on his part.
————
Midnight. This episode is genius for so many reasons. It is the Doctor’s most dire misunderstanding of humanity, as well as the Doctor’s most personal look at being on the receiving end of humanity’s worse impulses. He begins socializing like a normal, if enthusiastic person. But once the mystery begins…it is the best, most subtle example of the Doctor’s pathological need to understand things and his tendency to assume authority over others. Only this time he goes too far. His leadership turns to hubris. So many times, he goads people into risking their life to sate his curiosity. He knows humans are curious and takes advantage.
He keeps talking to the entity but declares no one else should. Part of it is that human bit, curious and wanting to help a possessed Skye who he bonded with earlier by talking about missing Rose. The rules keep changing though, and even he is scared. They call him out for his hubris, while growing increasingly paranoid, especially when discovering he’s not human. He gets frustrated at the descent into the worst of humanity and without thinking, he snaps “because I’m clever!”
He knows what he’s done so impulsively: thrown away the last bit of goodwill he had. He can’t talk his way out anymore.
And this is the most alone and most afraid the Doctor has ever been. It’s the most horrific near-death encounter for him: his inability to be enough like the humans he loves brings the absolute worst out of them.
—————
The Doctor says that it something human to believe two contradictory things at once.
The Doctor, ironically enough, believes two contradictory things about humans.
He believes, at least when disappointed in them or in his lowest points, that humans are monsters. (It’s the reason Fourteen gives that randomly cynical speech in The Giggle. It isn’t all humanity he believes this of. He’s talking to himself because he’s mid breakdown. He’s not 10, he’s softer and more splintered).
But he doesn’t believe that. Not really.
“I was made homeless…and there was the Earth.” - Voyage of the Damned
There’s a reason that the Doctor who has all of time and space always returns to Earth.
In the End of Time, Ten and Wilf have a scene where they sit and talk about their relationship and war and Time Lords.
And the Doctor tells Wilf he’d be proud to be his son.
It’s the Doctor’s most intensely vulnerable moment. He is so terrified that he agrees to carry a gun. (He also does this to make Wilf feel better. This is the last era that I feel understands how The Doctor feels about guns. It makes sense to the character and the arc he’s on at this point and this point only. He doesn’t even use it and ultimately won’t do anything against the enemies he’s facing).
This scene strips down the Doctor like no other scene. And it’s in this scene that the Doctor tells us the only thing you need to know in the end about how he sees humans. How for all he says otherwise, humans are the beings he sees as aspirational, the ones he, a Time Lord, looks up to.
Wilf says, “We must look like insects to you.”
Ten smiles tearful but genuine. He shakes his head slightly. And he says:
“I think you’re like giants.”
