Hi. Could you write number 2 off the fluff list for Nolan Patrick? Thank you and have a good day.
Fluff: 2. “Stop looking at me like that” “I can’t help it, you’re just so beautiful” w/ Nolan Patrick
Tumblr media
Honeymoon
It's our second day of our honeymoon and we are currently in Amalfi, Italy. I woke up before Nolan and quickly but quickly, making sure I didn't wake up Nolan made my way to the sitting room which was attached to our room. I grabbed the book off the coffee table and then headed out to the deck.
I didn't even hear Nolan creep his way quietly onto the deck until the lounge chair beside me made the floor boards of the resorts deck creek as he sat down. I look over and Nolan stops himself from fully sitting down, seeing he disturbed me from my book not meaning to, to make his way over to plant a kiss on my forehead but I lean my head backwards so he can connect his lips with mine instead.
"Mornin' beautiful" he says as he pulls away and plops down on the lounger beside me.
"Hi" I smile back closing my book and setting it on the table beside me
"Keep reading, we don't have to go just yet" he assures me.
Today we had plans to hike the coast then afterwards go down to the beach and relax but I really only felt like doing the relaxing part, even though the hike was my idea.
"Can we just go down to the beach and relax instead?"
"No hike?"
"Nah" i say as I stand from my spot, "I'm going to get changed, then we can head down to the restaurant for breakfast" I tell him leaving him out on the deck.
I quickly get changed into a simply white bikini then slide on some light wash jean overalls before grabbing my crochet purse and sliding on some flip flops before heading back out to the deck.
"Ready?" Nolan asks me with a smile and I nod smiling back at him then grab his hand before we leave our villa. We walk hand in hand to the resorts little restaurant to grab a quick bite to eat before heading down to the beach.
The hill was steep and my flip flops were becoming uncomfortable between my toes so I slide them off and began walking barefoot down the rocky road
"What are you doing?" Nolan laughs watching me cautiously walk on the rocky ground
"My feet hurt"
"Well get on my back then" he laughs
"I'm fine" I say being stubborn
"Alright then" he says laughing slightly. As we continue walking down the hill I look over and catch Nolan staring at me grinning as he watches me struggle down the hill.
"Stop looking at me like that" I say to him smiling as I shake my head
"Like what?"
"You're staring at me with a huge grin on your face"
"I can't help it, you're just so beautiful" he says making my cheeks burn red, even married to the man he can still manage to make me blush
"Stop" I say covering my face slightly
"Are you blushing?" Nolan asks me teasingly
"Don't you dare tease me for blushing, rosey cheek boy"
"Hey!" he laughs out
We make it down to the beach and dress down into our bathing suits before I decide to put my feet in the water to heal them from the walk. Nolan races behind me as I made my way picking me up and running me down into the water.
When he drops me I hang on tightly to his shoulders so I don't fall, but instead I lower my self into the water. "You're lucky" I say to him splashing him as I let out a slight giggle
"You're right" he smiles down at me bringing me in close and kissing my lips.

A very Merry NHL Christmas
Warnings: Mild cursing, some sexual humor, talks of Christmas, Jesus and the holidays.
This was originally planned for last Christmas but ya girl had writers block. So enjoy this now. Let me know what you think!
Note: this is a small group of blurbs about all the couples currently in process on my Masterlist. This won’t include anyone who’s not currently being written about. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, and happy holidays to the rest🤍
Tumblr media
‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, the kids were asleep, and Matthew and Brady were trying to get Keith into a Santa costume without laughing too loud.
Chantal had one hand over her mouth as she watched them struggle with the zipper before finally closing the suit, and adjusting Keith’s beard. Brady was red faced, and coughing to cover his laughter as Keith whipped around and glared at him, while Matthew had one hand braced on his knee, the other holding his side laughing openly.
“I’m never doing this again.” He grumbled as he stepped into the boots and straightened up looking for the sack of presents. The kids had set up a hidden camera earlier in hopes of catching a picture of Santa putting presents under the tree. Taryn was outside picking up the reindeer food they had left in the front yard and making hoof marks on the front walkway, the milk and cookies had been disposed of and Emma, who would be spending her first Christmas with them since they got married, was sprinkling sand by the front door because south Florida Santa had no snow to work with. Noticeably pregnant Hallie rubbed her hands together and smiled excitedly. Keith placed the presents under the tree, keeping his back to the camera.
“They’re going to love this.” Chantal said giving her hand a squeeze.
Matthew was smiling at her from the doorway as he watched his dad carefully set out gifts and made his way over. He glanced down at her baby bump and rested a hand on it.
“Merry Christmas in there.” He said softly rubbing it “Can’t wait to celebrate with you next year. And by that time someone else will be taking up your space.”
“Uh I don’t think so.” Hallie said shaking her head “This mama is done….for a little while.”
“How many fucking-freaking kids are you guys gonna have Jesus.” Brady said around a mouth full of Christmas cookie. They were all looking at them mildly interested and Hallie wasn’t really sure how to answer.
Matthew shrugged “I guess until I don’t get it done on the first try.”
Her face burned in embarrassment, and she couldn’t believe she had let him answer, but the others were laughing. He threw an arm around her shoulders “But who am I kidding, that won’t happen. I’m 3 for 3. A triple champ.”
“Yeah kind of like an ugly, skinny, Conor McGregor.” Brady said elbowing him.
That started a scuffle and Hallie crossed her arms shaking her head, eyes moving over their house. Over the pictures on the walls they’d amassed over their years together. The ones that started with just them, and then their family, and then their children. Over the decorations, and lights, and ornaments the kids made for them at school that hung on the tree. Her life was so full, so wonderful.
Taryn bumped her shoulder and smiled, eyes moving around before coming back to meet hers “So? Is it everything you hoped for?” She looped an arm around her waist.
She nodded, reaching an arm around her “It’s more than I hoped for.” And then she laughed when Matthew and Brady’s scuffle dissolved and he came over and grinned at her.
“If you don’t stop fighting with Brady you’ll end up on the naughty list, and you won’t get any presents.” She said, reaching forward to wrap her arms around him, as much as possible, with the baby bump in between them.
“The naughty list is more fun anyways. It’s how I became 3 for 3.”
*************
Music played softly in the background of Pierre’s apartment as snow fell outside. It was warm and cozy, the house smelled of cinnamon, and Mila and Pierre were snuggled on the sofa watching the snow fall.
“It’s so pretty.” Mila said off handedly, eyes following the flakes as they blanketed the ground below them, creating a fluffy white blanket on the ground.
“Not as pretty as you.”
She rolled her eyes and tilted her head up to look at him “Your so cheesy.”
“It’s all part of my appeal babe…which speaking of. I have something for you.” He nudged her so he could stand and disappeared around the corner and came back with a box.
“Here.” Pierre said handing it to her. It was long and rectangular shaped and she took it before looking at him.
“Didn’t I tell-“
“Oh shutup.” He said waving her off “Stop trying to police my spending habits on Christmas.”
She giggled and rolled her eyes “Okay Jesus.”
He held a hand up to his chest “Did you just take the lords name in vain…on his birthday?”
“Okay now you shutup.”
“Open it.” He said nudging his chin impatiently at her.
She pulled off the paper, which was no easy feet as it was wrapped like a car ran over it, and pulled out a long blue velvet box. Inside of it was a shining, glittery diamond bracelet.
“Pierre!” She said mouth falling open “This is-“
“Nope!” He held up a hand “It’s not too much. You are worth every single dollar I spent on that, which is none of your business before you ask.”
Mila bit her lip. It was gorgeous, platinum with what looked like a hundred tiny diamonds, held together by a small clasp with her initials on it.
“Well?” He was smiling widely “Do you like it?”
“Of course I like it.” she held it out to him so he could put it on. She turned her wrist so the light caught the diamonds and smiled a little before looking at him.
“Merry Christmas Mila.”
*************
“Wake up! It’s Christmas Eve!”
Vince felt a weight bounce across his bed, rip the covers off of him, and a body wriggle under the blankets, kicking him out of his warm spot.
Josie had come barreling in the room, smiling so wide it could light up a city’s worth of Christmas lights.
“Noooooo.” He groaned eyes closing again. He reached down and pulled the blankets up over his head, and then pulled her closer, leaning down to kiss her deeply but she pushed away from him and tapped him on the lips.
“Uh uh. Santa says no funny business on Christmas Eve until we do something fun!”
“Well Santa can-“
“Ah! None of that or you won’t get any presents!”
She jumped out of bed and pulled the covers off of him, pointing at a neatly folded pile of clothing, “Get dressed. We’re going somewhere.”
He sighed and rolled over with a groan, but when he saw the look on her face he sat up. She looked so excited, hands clasped under her chin as she stood in the doorway of his bedroom.
“Okay, okay I’m awake.”
She squeaked excitedly and bounced from the room, leaving him to get dressed and brush his teeth. She was bundled by the front door as he came around the corner.
“So where are we going?”
“You’ll see.”
10 minutes later, he was chuckling as they stood in front of an outdoor ice rink, and he knelt down to tie her skates. He finally got them tied, even though her legs were shaking in excitement and looked up at her.
“Do you even know how to skate?” He asked as he adjusted her leg warmer over the top of her skate and then did the same on the other one.
“Nope!” She said brightly, tapping him on the nose and standing, hands resting on her hips “That’s why you’re going to teach me.”
He helped her out on to the ice and stood facing her, gripping both of her hands in his. He skated backwards pulling her along. It was slow going and he was laughing as she went split legged a few times.
“Hang on. I have a better idea.” He skated around her and pressed himself against her back, arms coming to rest around her waist.
“Hang on.” He said lowly in her ear.
Josie smiled with excitement as he started moving, allowing her to just let her skates sit on the ice without having to do anything else. She closed her eyes and breathed in, the winter air stinging her skin.
“Having a good time?” he asked from behind her.
“Always when I’m with you. Are you having a good time?”
“Of course.” He slowed down a little and walked over her shoulder to kiss her cold cheek “Even though I’m doing all the work. Santa had better reward me with a great gift.”
Josie giggled to herself thankful for Christmas with Vince.
And thankful that he didn’t know, she really did know how to ice skate.
************
“Smile!”
Mat snapped the picture of Leighton and Lucy in front of the tree and smiled.
“Beautiful.”
His first Christmas with his girls had been perfect. The entire month of December had been like something from a dream. Lucy had been to every possible Christmas event they could find on Long Island, often accompanied by her godparents, who were across town celebrating their first Christmas together. Snow angels, Christmas decorating, and even the first time she’d been in an ice rink had all happened in the part month and Mat’s heart felt so full it might burst.
“Let me see.” She squinted at the picture and smiled down at Lucy, who was looking more and more like her as she got older.
“Who’s that beautiful girl?”
He smiled down at them and stood up, setting his phone on the couch and picked up a box and went to hand it to Leighton.
“From Santa. I guess I’m not the only one who thinks you’re beautiful.”
She rolled her eyes and blushed, but pulled out a box and handed it to him. “Here open this first. I think you’re gonna love it.”
He sat on the sofa and pulled at the paper. It was small, enough to fit in his hand. The box was flat, with a cardboard lid and when he pulled it off he saw a blank sheet of paper that said “Pick me up.”
He glanced at her, to find her smiling brightly and she nodded “Go ahead.”
He gripped the paper and pulled, and from it another long sheet of paper fell like an accordion. He pulled it up to look at it and saw that it was t a sheet of paper.
It was a sonogram.
He whipped up his head to find that Leighton was now crying, cheeks red.
“Are you-Oh my god.” He reached forward to hug her, chin resting on her head.
“Are you happy?”
“More happy than I’ve ever been.”
She closed her eyes and breathed him in as he spoke again “This is the best Christmas gift I’ve ever gotten, and I love you.”
************
“Is this dress to short?” Ginny asked turning in front of the mirror. Beau leaned out of the bathroom and grinned in a way that was not appropriate on any level, but especially not on Christmas.
“Yes. You should definitely wear it. Can’t wait to take it off later.” He leaned back in the bathroom.
She smiled and looked at her closet for shoes. The Islanders Christmas party was in a half and hour and they were running a little behind.
She’d been on time until he came into the bathroom and cracked a joke about opening a present, which turned out to be his jeans and the rest of it was a Christmas story for another time. But not the kind you read before bed.
He walked out of the bathroom looking better than he needed to in a pair of grey pants and a black button up. Ginny paused while she slipped a shoe on, eyes moving from his face to his feet and then back up. He winked and smiled at her.
“Not bad huh? But you’ve got me beat. WOW.” He said as he took in her red dress, and heels. It had been a little over six months and she continued to surprise him by outdoing herself. This was the first big holiday they were spending together and tomorrow she’d be meeting his parents.
He stood staring at her “You look beautiful.”
She smiled and blushed a little. Though she was used to a slew of compliments from him, and she knew he was always being genuine when he said them. But it still made her blush.
“Thank you.” She said softly, slipping into her shoes and turning back to the mirror.
“Are Mat and Leighton coming?”
She nodded and sat at her vanity to find earrings “Yes. She said she has something for me.”
“Like a gift?”
Ginny shrugged “I’m not sure. She just said it was something I would love.” She smiled a little as she poked an earring in her ear.
“You know what I love? That dress. Gosh.”
She rolled her eyes and shook her hair over her shoulder to put in her other earring “Why are you being so nice to me? Keep being too good and I won’t let you unwrap my present later on.”
His mouth fell open “I think it’s supposed to be the other way around. Only people on the nice list get to unwrap presents.”
Ginny smiled at him over her shoulder “I much prefer my present openers to be on the naughty side.”
Beau leaned on the doorway, smile as wide as it could possibly get “Best Christmas ever.”
***********
“Stop laughing.”
“I’m not!” Nash giggled from the ground.
Travis was up on a ladder hanging lights from the archway inside the living room of their new house. She’d insisted for weeks that she didn’t want any there, until she announced she was throwing a Christmas party, and then decided the house wasn’t festive enough, which meant she’d shoved a bunch of lights into his hands and told him to hang them.
“Oh come on!” He yelled as he turned the bulb on one of the strings and the rest went out. He’d been fighting with them for 10 minutes “One goes out, they all stay on. One goes on they all go out!”
“Well at least we know that if hockey doesn’t work out, you won’t have a career as an electrician.” She said from the bottom of the ladder with a shrug.
He glanced over his shoulder “Ha Ha. I’m glad you’re having fun down there.”
“Of course I am. The view is fantastic.” She said with a wink.
Travis chuckled and went back to hanging lights, finally getting them all lit “Finally.” He turned to find her smiling at the bottom of the ladder, hands on her waist “How does that look?”
She nodded and pursed her lips “Perfect. Thank you.”
He shrugged “Don’t thank me. It’s the least I could do. And it makes you happy so it’s a win in my book.”
He made his way down the ladder and pulled her into his arms “Besides. A good deed on Christmas always gets rewarded and I-“
But he was cut short when there was an electrical pop and every light in the house went dark.
“It’s not funny.”
“I’m not laughing. You can’t even see me.”
He grinned “I don’t need to.”
She sighed and he felt her arms slide around his waist “We could just stay here…in the dark I guess.”
“But then how would Santa find our house?” As he said that the lights all lit up at once just in time for him to see her smiled widely at him.
“Who cares? Nothing he could bring me would ever be a better gift that the one I have right here.”
***********
“Merry Christmas!” Sawyer yelled as she pulled open the door to find Nolan’s parents on the other side. She pulled them inside and out of the cold Winnipeg winter and into their cozy house that was full of friends and family.
Nolan was parked on a barstool at the counter watching Sawyer. She was having the absolute time of her life and just looking at her made him want to smile.
It had been a hard year. A hard few years actually but this one in particular had been rough. They’d had so much hope for Vegas and it had only been more of the same, and no one was sure that he’d ever be able to play hockey again. It was sad and scary and she held his hand every minute, but he’d come to terms with it now.
But he didn’t have time to think about it because Sawyer herself came bounding over, hanging mistletoe over his head and kissing him on the cheek with a loud “smack”
“Come on you Grinch! At least smile a little.”
He smiled and she made a face “I mean a real one. Santa is watching.” She pointed upwards.
“I thought that was Jesus who lived up there.”
“Yeah well then he’s watching too. So you won’t get any presents and you might get struck by lightning and that will ruin the whole holiday.” She grinned “And I’ll have to take all these decorations down by myself.”
He chuckled and reached forward, wrapping his arms around her shoulders.
“Thank you.” She said against his chest, quietly enough that only he could hear.
“For?”
“This.” She pulled back and gestured around “I know this isn’t your thing, but it means a lot to me that you let me throw this party.”
“It’s not that bad. I’d do anything to make you happy, you know that. My Christmas gift to you.”
She looked up at him and smiled the most beautiful smile “Your the gift that keeps on giving Nolan Patrick, and no gift could ever be better than spending my life with you.”
Nolan rested his chin on her head “Merry Christmas Sawyer.”
“Merry Christmas Nols.”
************
“Cash will you sit still!” Tyler grumbled as he tried for the third time to stick reindeer antlers on his head. Marshall, Molly and even Gerry were all sitting obediently, but Cash had shaken them off twice. Even though he was as uncooperative as possible, Ava was having so much fun. There was a magic in the air that only lasted one month out of the year that you couldn’t find any other time. The feeling of Christmas was unlike any other and it was the first one she was spending with Tyler, and the first one she could remember being excited for.
She was knelt down, phone in one hand, tennis ball in the other which had the attention of the other three dogs, waiting for Tyler to quit wrestling with their most unruly child.
“Freakin dog.” He said with a huff as he finally got them fastened and made him sit.
“Just like his dad.” She said smiling at him “Okay ready, hey guys!” She waved the ball so they all looked and quickly snapped several pictures before they all started moving with excitement.
“Got it!” she said tossing the ball.
All four took off running after it, skidding through the house and falling over each other like Bambi on ice, and Ava and Tyler both yelled “No!” as Gerry went flying right into the tree.
It swayed for a second before it fell in slow motion as Tyler raced forward to catch it, which he did, but not before it rained ornaments that hit the floor and rolled in all directions.
Ava covered her mouth the keep from laughing and hurried forward as Tyler tipped the tree back up on to its stand, and made a loud noise of annoyance.
“What’s so funny?” He asked when he saw her laughing.
“What’s funny is now you have to help me redecorate it. Since you conveniently seemed to be missing last time.”
“I was at practice.” He said eyeing her with a small smile.
“Sure. That’s why Jamie called looking for you.”
“That douche. Busted I guess. Okay I wasn’t at practice I was out-“ he reached into his pocket and pulled out a box “Buying this.”
She smiled and glanced up as she took it “That’s funny cuz I wasn’t here waiting for you, I was out picking up this.” She pulled a bigger rectangular box from under the sofa.
As they opened their respective gifts she heard Tyler make a noise like a gasp and an exclamation and she smiled. She’d had blown up and framed the first picture they’d ever taken together, them and all four of the dogs. It had been the first time Ava had let anyone take a photo of her in years, and Tyler was so proud of her for it. But she’d kept it hidden, telling him it didn’t take for months. This was the first time he’d seen it, and his eyes softened as he looked at it and then at her.
“I love this. Thank you it’s amazing. We gotta hang this.” He glanced around and picked a spot right by the front door “There. So people see it right when they get here.”
He turned as she pulled her own gift out, a silver locket with a tiny photo of the dogs on one side, and them on the other, and a date a time inscribed on the back.
“This is beautiful, but what’s this?” She asked pointing at the date and time that was engraved at the bottom.
“The day and time I saw you for the first time.”
“Oh my gosh.” She was blushing but he continued “That day and time changed my life. The only thing that could would have made it better was if you wanted to join the mile high club or something.”
She laughed and swatted his arm “Tyler!” She turned holding up her hair so he could put it on and then smiled “Thank you for this and for making every other day better than the one before.” She placed a hand on his heart.
“Thank you.” He said placing his hand over hers “For letting me.”
He squeezed her hand and then pulled her into a hug. He was warm, and she could feel his heart beating through his chest. Tyler smiled and squeezed her tighter. “Best Christmas ever. Don’t you think?” He asked glancing down. She nodded with a small smile.
“Better than all your others?”
“Everything with you in my life is better, Christmas included.” She closed her eyes and squeezed him tightly.
There really was something magical about Christmas.
************
“Ho Ho Ho!” Joel rumbled as he made his way inside of the Connolly’s house. He and Libby had gone home for Christmas and though they wouldn’t be able to stay long, there was no way they were missing her parent’s Christmas party.
“AH!” Heather screamed rushing forward to pull them both into a hug, as she had also voyaged home just for the holidays “Happy kissaversary lovebirds.”
Th house was packed with guests and family and friends, and Libby couldn’t stop smiling. It felt so good to be here in her parents house, on Christmas Eve, with Joel where their story had started. She’d kissed him for the first time right upstairs in her room, and at that moment their lives together began.
“What are you thinking about?” He asked from beside her, arm around her shoulders.
“Oh just about that Christmas Eve when I kissed you upstairs.”
“Uhm no.” He scoffed “It was me who kissed you actually.”
“Im thinking about-“ they turned to find Heather, standing with her sweater half open to conceal a bottle of wine under it. Discreetly they all made their way up to Libby’s room and out on to the roof, bundled in jackets as they each took sips from the bottle.
“Last time we did this we were teenagers.” Joel said from his spot next to Libby.
“The last time your mom had a party was when I was in Florida and you guys were in there making out, thinking we all had no idea.”
“Well you might, but my parents didn’t.”
Heather rolled her eyes “Yes they did Libby. They just didn’t think Joel had it in him so they didn’t care.”
Joel gave her a dirty look and an eye roll, and stared off into space for a second before he asked them “Do you guys ever think about what things would be like if you hadn’t moved here in 8th grade?”
“I don’t like to.” Heather said rubbing her arms “You moving here was the best thing that could have happened to us.” She said smiling at Libby “Because I gained a best friend and Joel finally found someone who would go out with him.”
Libby started laughing, breath turning into fog and Joel’s mouth fell open “On Christmas? Really Heather? Aren’t you already pretty low on the naughty list?”
“I live on the naughty list. Alright I’m not 15 anymore. It’s too cold for this, you guys coming?” She said as she climbed back in.
“In a minute.” She disappeared out Libby’s bedroom door leaving her with Joel on the roof. She reached forward grabbing his hand to hold it in her mittened one.
“If I hadn’t moved here in 8th grade, we still would have found each other some way.”
“You think?”
She nodded and looked out across town, at the black sky, white snow and twinkling stars above their heads “I do. Just would have needed some magic. Some Christmas magic.” She pointed at a star that streaked across the sky and disappeared before she rested her head on his shoulder.
“Can you think of a better way to spend Christmas Eve?” He asked.
She shook her head “No. I want to spend every Christmas Eve here, and every other day of the year with you until we’re old and grey. Promise me that?” She looked up at him, eyes wide under her glasses.
“Promise. Merry Christmas Libby.”
“Merry Christmas Joel.”

Men's Hockey (RPF) fanfiction recs:
Travis Konecny/Nolan Patrick
Tumblr media
"how to cherish your own shadow" 🔒 (E) by notthequiettype | 15,525 | Nolan thinks about praying. He thinks about TK, how good it's been to have him here, how easily they move around each other. He thinks about the stretch of days ahead of him once TK heads home. TK looks over and smiles, soft and crooked, and Nolan imagines leaning in to kiss him, pressing their bodies together. He smiles back.
"an illicit divide" 🔒 (E) by notthequiettype | 2,851 | TK unbuttons his shirt, opens his belt. He turns around and Patty's still standing in the doorway, a shoulder against the frame. "You coming over?" "Can't," Patty says, and drags his socked foot along the threshold between their rooms. "Against the rules."
"but i pinky promise i'll try" 🔒 (E) by anonymous | 12,152 | Nolan comes across one guy, just a scant two miles away, who actually has his face in his profile picture, which is a refreshing change. He’s cute, longish dark hair with a sneaky smile, and his name is Travis. Nolan has never started a conversation with anyone before, but again: antsy and horny.
"how winning is done" 🔒 (M) by jolach | 8,823 | Travis isn’t buying it. “Nah,” he says. “You’re not good.” He sees Patty whip his head around, ready to start shit, which normally Travis would be into, but– “You’re fucking...” he searches for a word, “awesome.” “Trav–” “You were a fucking monster out there tonight, that call was bullshit–” “Oh my God–” “You’re better at COD than me, I’ll never repeat that–” “–you don’t have to, we both know–” “You’re a goddamn smokeshow, you bagged a fucking NHL captain without even trying–” “Jesus fucking Christ,” Pat says.
"hear the river say your name" 🔒 (E) by notthequiettype | 2,481 | "Howdy's got plans, so." Pat says it like it's a whole explanation, low and easy. It's been a while since they've been in the same room, but the way they talk to each other, the half sentences and shorthand, it's all still there. They're good to go and Pat's leaving it up to him.
"teach me how to cry" 🔒 (NR) by notthequiettype | 693 | TK knows the second he hits the ice his season's done.
"Combative" 🔒 (E) by notthequiettype | 3,517 | "You know you could just fuck me without setting weird little benchmarks for yourself." "Yeah, but like, if I don't have a goal, how do I get better?"
"when i see your light shine" 🔒 (E) by notthequiettype | 4,700 | Patty says, "Hey" and TK pulls him into a hug, lets himself hang on slightly longer than is chill. Patty just spreads his big hand out between TK's shoulderblades and holds on back. When they pull back TK says, "What the fuck are you doing here?"
"this will be our year" 🔒 (E) by notthequiettype | 4,380 | When TK turns back around, there's a tall, handsome guy leaning on his elbow on the bar, two fingers rubbing at his temple under his shaggy hair. "What can I get you?" "What's the least annoying thing to order?" "For real or like how people are always asking bartenders what they like to make?" The corner of the guy's mouth twitches a little. The tops of his cheeks are flushed. "For real."
"absolute ultimate" 🔒 (E) by heroics | 4,669 | It’s a kind of ritual, now, that Travis and Pat spend at least the first night of every road trip at the hotel, bickering over the Discovery Channel.
"dial this lover’s heartache" 🔒 (E) by notthequiettype | 5,219 | TK hits Pat, 21, 7km away and pauses, mostly to size-up the bass hanging from his hand in his profile photo. TK swipes right because he likes Pat's wide, open-mouthed smile, like he's in the middle of a laugh, and the soft curve of belly sitting at his waistband in another shot. TK's not expecting the match to pop and it startles him into dropping his phone on the counter.
"just like this" 🔒 (E) by jesuisgrace | 1,144 | TK plays beautifully. He knows they should wait, but when TK rips his helmet off after the game and flips his disgusting, sweaty hair back, he wants to eat him alive.
"Slow and low" 🔒 (E) by bitter_leaf | 10,451 | “You really gave that girl a lap dance, eh?” “I fucking said I did, didn’t I—” Travis starts, irritated, because he just told Patty not half an hour ago that he did and— his stomach drops through the floor. Oh fuck. Oh shit. Oh no. No no no.
"take down some summer time" 🔒 (T) by manybumblebees | 2,507 | Summer is lake days and fishing and coolers full of beer, the boat kicking up spray in its wake, and Nolan coming to stand next to him on the deck in his too-short shorts, holding his forearm next to TK’s and complaining about his Irish skin, which burns and freckles but never tans.
"it's hard to look right at you (so here's my number)"🔒 (E) by backseats | 2,914 | “Why’d you, like…” Trav tries to kick his brain back into conversation-mode, momentarily distracted by the way Patty’s flushed all the way past his throat, down to the divot of his collarbone. “Why’d you call me, man?”
"Motivation" 🔒 (E) by connectknee | 4,696 | Kevin knows when to back off, the article said. He knows just when to shut up and leave Patty alone, something Travis has never known how to do.
"Strange Torpedo" 🔒 (E) by connectknee | 31,270 |In which TK is the unconventional first-grade teacher in charge of Nolan’s niece, and Nolan is trying to figure out what to do with his life after crashing out of hockey.
"Dead reckoning" 🔒 (E) by murkya | 10,768 | Patty came over after lunch, one eye hecticly red and his jaw occasionally grinding about as if something was wound too tight inside and he was stuck on trying to work it free.
"History, and other forms of strife" 🔒 (M) by murkya | 16,925 | Summer of ‘26, Nolan got traded to the Flyers. That was fine, just great. Shit happens.
"don't let me fall behind" 🔒 (T) by growlery writes | 2,187 | It happens quickly, too quickly, but this is how it ends: the guy is on the ground. The guy isn’t moving. Nolan is safe. There’s a knife in Travis’s side. Nolan is safe.
"keep it on a high note" 🔒 (E) by notthequiettype | 3,915 | Nolan has never been a particularly tactile person except for with the people he's been closest too. Nobody's expanded those boundaries like TK and Nolan likes the ease of it, that he has someone around all the time who he likes to be close to.
"hold on to your aftertaste" 🔒 (E) by notthequiettype | 8,305 | Kevin stops him at the door. "You are my beautiful, gay, virgin friend. And we are going to go take care of the one part of that description that's bothering you." It's strangely heartening and Nolan follows him in.
"Cheetle" 🔒 (E) by notthequiettype | 7,061 | Nolan made Travis kind of stupid in all these strange, inarticulable ways that didn't really have anything to do with how smart Travis wasn't, but instead were about like, how he felt.
"see you in the depths" 🔒 (E) by eversincewefellapart | 6,718 | "You're a virgin?" TK repeats incredulously.
"my heart is thrilled by the still of your hand" 🔒 (E) by callabang & manybumblebees | 3,139 | Patty tries a lot of shit to help with his migraines, but TK still isn't expecting to hear that he’s doing a “chastity cleanse” because Tazer said it would help him to “reset his mind.”
"save your first and last dance for me" 🔒 (E) by manybumblebees | 21,374 | They're several hours, a slow dance, and too many bright orange shots that taste of cinnamon and paint thinner into their joke date to G's wedding when TK looks up at Nolan and says, "Marry me." And that's just their first wedding of the summer.
"play with fire till your fingers burn" 🔒 (T) by manybumblebees | 6,048 | Nolan goes through his first NHL camp knowing three things about the guy in the next stall: 1. He talks a lot. 2. He likes to fish. 3. The ducks in his tattoo are named after the Ninja Turtles.
"port stanley is for lovers" 🔒 (T) by manybumblebees | 7,518 | “Imagine–” Nolan chokes out, trying to stop laughing long enough not to totally butcher the delivery on this. “Bro, imagine making a whole town think we’re hooking up because you couldn’t shut up about me.”
"i'm dying, i'm dying to touch" 🔒 (E) by anonymous | 2,023 | Patty won't look at him. He's not paying any attention to TK, sitting there shooting the shit with Raff like TK doesn't even fucking exist. Fuck it. Fuck him. Fuck this.
"like home" 🔒 (T) by anonymous | 4,595 | The entire season feels like it’s going on in the next room, like Nolan’s watching it through a one-way mirror. Him on one side, hockey on the other. And then it stops, the whole season, the structure he's been clawing himself along and against, and... It's not a good week.
"if you leave the light on" 🔒 (M) by countthestars | 7,753 | “Do you really want me to come to Winnipeg?” TK doesn’t mean to blurt it out, but he’s not good at being subtle or holding back or thinking through any of the possible terrible consequences for his actions before he’s already done them, so. The question’s just. Out there. Ball in Patty’s court.
"the new three's company" 🔒 (M) by blaahaj | 3,000 | There are probably better ways to seduce your teammate than asking him to have a threesome with you, but this is working out alright for Travis.
"let's get drunk, i’ll pour my heart out through my mouth" 🔒 (M) by anonymous | 7,139 | Holy fuck, did he pick someone up last night? Travis isn’t in the habit of waking up with strangers, not really, but at least he’s in his own bedroom, that doesn’t— Wait. He knows those shoes.
"a line that we can just go cross" 🔒 (M) by whiskey_in_tea | 3,266 | Travis thinks about when he chipped his own tooth: how it felt to run his tongue over the unfamiliar jagged edge of it, over and over and over again. That’s the only reason he got it fixed, is because he cut his tongue on it, worrying at it, and that seemed unnecessary. That seemed, like, bad. He imagines saying to Pats, I’m worried about your tongue.
"I'm Your Wreck" 🔒 (M) by whiskey_in_tea | 7,126 | “If I was gonna,” Nolan says. “With a guy. Why would it be you?” “Because you love me,” Travis says, smug, shit-eating grin on that ratfucker’s face as he walks over to where Nolan’s sitting on the bed. Nolan tries desperately to trace how this night got so out of control so quickly and comes up with only: this is what happens when you make friends with the craziest person on your crazy-ass team.
"wild thoughts" 🔒 (M) by whiskey_in_tea | 6,996 | Nolan watches Travis’ hands, browned from the summer, scarred by fishing hooks and trigger pulls and ice burns and god knows what else, as they finish putting dinner on its plate. That’s the thing about Travis: he understands how to make the life he wants for himself. He’s not stupid, except about the things he’s fucking stupid about.
"working for it all the time" 🔒 (E) by whiskey_in_tea | 8,105 | It’s just, like, Travis thinks, as Patty lets go of his wrists and they walk inside together, Patty saying something about dinner plans. With other guys, there’s this static zone between them. Travis doesn’t think about it because there’s nothing to think about. But with Patty… it could happen. Just technically. It is possible. The door is open, he thinks, for the possibility of something. Not that he wants something to happen. But Travis has to admit that he thinks about it. He does.
"Surveilled" 🔒 (M) by notthequiettype | 639 | The thing about TK is that he doesn't lack impulse control; it’s that his impulse control was getting in the way of his life, so he just kind of learned to suppress it.
"Horseshoe Lake" 🔒 (E) by notthequiettype | 5,386 | "So, what, you just came over in the middle of the night to like, end our lifelong friendship?"
"Eye to Eye" 🔒 (M) by canary | 4,077 | Five times TK asks Nolan to talk about it, and one time he doesn’t.
"never have i ever" 🔒 (E) by anonymous | 5,653 | “Never have I ever kissed a guy,” he said, without really thinking about it. Nolan didn’t respond right away, and Travis realized about five seconds too late that that was probably a really weird thing to say.
"same building, different views" 🔒 (E) by atswimtwobros | 5,636 | Patty’s not always easy to read but Travis can tell that he hates this, being held down while Travis just looks at him. He can feel Patty’s pulse thumping in his wrists.
"haven't left your bed since" 🔒 (E) by heroics | 6,002 | "So, is it a rule that all bassists have to be really stoic and hot?" Travis asks.
"second sun came past the glass" 🔒 (E) by heroics | 3,614 | When TK glances at him across the elevator, Nolan leans against the wall and lets himself stare back. They start going up, agonizingly slow, dinging past each level. He really hopes nobody else comes in.
"headed your way with the devil on my fucking shoulder" 🔒 (E) by eversincewefellapart | 5,434 | They've been rooming since September and TK had tried valiantly, in the beginning, to strike up a friendship. When that seemed impossible, he attempted to go for a casual acquaintanceship at the very least. But Nolan consistently and coldly turned his advances down each time, shrugging into his big purple and yellow Laurier sweaters with his snapback pulled low over his eyes. TK has still never seen him hang out with anyone. He apparently runs a one-man show.
"only demons come to mind" 🔒 (T) by manybumblebees | 3,727 | Next to Nolan, TK’s slamming his gear around and swearing, and that, too, is becoming routine.
"sunlight on our clean clothes" 🔒 (E) by sarcangel | 19,923 | “Turns out I have a thing for centers,” Travis started. It came out pretty good, just a little wobble. “Or, um. Mostly one center. A center. Like, 6’2”, born in Winnipeg. Virgo. Likes cabins, dogs, weird music with violins and shit—”
"great expectations" 🔒 (E) by atswimtwobros | 5,287 | It's starting to give Travis a little bit of a complex, is all. or: the small dick fic.
"Close ain't close enough" 🔒 (E) by bitter_leaf | 33,590 | They’ve only got three nights left before they head back to Philly, training camp starting up a little over a week after that. With a heavy heart, Travis realises that he’s gonna head back home and have to deal with this same stupid flickering torch that he’s been carrying since Patty got put on long term IR that just will not go out, no matter how much he tries—and fails—to ignore it.
"Call me out (bring you home)" 🔒 (M) by bitter_leaf | 19,319 | Nolan’s gaze flickers periodically to the rear-view mirror as he barrels down the highway, one shaky hand shoved under his thigh, the other slung over the wheel. The road is quiet now that he's clear of the city but he can’t bear the thought of getting pulled over and having to roll his window down for some bored traffic cop, tell him he’s heading across provincial borders in the middle of a pandemic to get Manitoba’s favourite son to rail the existential angst out of him.
"break my bones" 🔒 (E) by anonymous | 3,387 | Nolan’s been here enough times that he heads straight to the counter. He does a double-take when he sees the new barista, then immediately kicks himself for being obvious. It takes a surprising amount of concentration to order coffee while acting like he's never gotten off to videos of the guy getting fucked to within an inch of his life.
"pictures of success" 🔒 (E) by whiskey_in_tea | 16,171 | “The trick,” Travis is saying, “is to get past where the waves are breaking.” He gestures to where the water is rising like a wall in front of them. “See how it comes up and up, then it starts falling in on itself?” The ocean crumbles, collapses, sprays them with spume. It seems angry. What’s it so angry about?
"all candor and style in the crook of your smile" 🔒 (M) by p3trichor | 12,031 | It’s a photo of Nolan on his knees with someones’ fingers in his mouth, lips slick with spit. Travis flicks by it almost too fast and he’s only got seconds to decide if he wants to screenshot it, if he wants to just give up the ghost right then and there.
"but your heart got teeth" 🔒 (M) by countthestars | 6,619 | Patty’s gonna wolf out. Travis has never seen him do it before.
"i saw you in the water" 🔒 (E) by LouLa | 24,944 | “Why are you always collecting my garbage like a weird, violent crow?” Nolan asks, bewildered. Travis doesn’t have an answer for that, he just shoves at Nolan’s face instead.
"Nothing to Prove" 🔒 (E) by canary | 42,342 | Nolan picked a college based on two criteria. One: That it didn’t have a hockey program. Two: That it was in some random corner of the southern USA, where the air was thick enough to bite, and football was the only sport anyone talked about in October. He should have known his dumb ass was still going to fuck it up.
"Sugar Honey" 🔒 (T) by canary | 3,904 | TK had always liked color. TK had always liked Patty. TK had always liked it when Patty smiled, and it seemed like he smiled all the fucking time in Winnipeg.
"How the Future Knew" 🔒 (E) by canary | 63,728 | It had been some stupid, throwaway picture from the gym. He’d been shirtless, taken a selfie in the mirror between sets. Nolan hadn’t been thinking about it, really, just like, oh, my abs look pretty good for this late in the season, and he’d thrown it on the gram. It had made some horny Canadian’s “boys next door thirst trap compilation” post on Tumblr. Nolan hadn’t heard of Tumblr before but apparently it was a thing. He’d gotten like, thirty DMs about it.
"the space between your words" 🔒 (E) by TheNorthRemembers | 18,189 | Travis visits Nolan during the offseason and starts spiralling into his insecurities after being told by Nolan's sister that she doesn't like him.
"Made of Glass" 🔒 (M) by makeit_takeit | 14,689 | Inside the locker room it’s pure chaos, noise and people and Nolan immediately feels overwhelmed by the sheer volume of it all, both literal and metaphorical. His heart lurches and his gut tells him immediately, this is a bad idea, and you don’t belong here.
"Things We Missed" 🔒 (T) by makeit_takeit | 4,622 | It was literally, unquestionably, like - the dumbest thing he’s ever done, hooking up with Hallsy. Because Nolan is very - . Like, extremely, super, totally, literal-hours-of-his-life-lost-to-conversations-on-this-topic aware, that Travis Konecny is mad jealous of Taylor Hall.
"Last Ones Standing" 🔒 (E) by makeit_takeit | 22,772 | At the bottom of the ad there’s a link, and Travis finds his finger hovering over the screen, lip still caught between his teeth. “I mean,” he says very reasonably, speaking out loud to his empty apartment like some sort of possibly-crazy person, “just applying doesn’t mean anything. Maybe I just fill it out, and see what happens. It’s not like I’m really gonna get picked to be on TV, come on.”
"Just Getting Started" 🔒 (E) by canary | 10,719 | Several things clicked into place. “Are you trying to court me with Bud Lite Lime?” Nolan asked in disbelief. “Dunno,” Travis said, with his crooked smile. “Is it working?”
"body's in trouble" 🔒 (E) by cloudsandpassingevents | 55,915 | “I don’t know,” Nolan finally mumbles. “I’m not, like, trying to – ” the rest of the sentence gets stuck in his throat. He takes a sip of tea to force it back down. “Like. I wouldn’t do anything drastic. But, like.” He gestures vaguely at the air between them. “If you had a bike that was broken, you wouldn’t just keep it around anymore, you know? Like, it’d just be useless. You’d throw it away. So, like, if your body can’t do stuff that it’s supposed to be able to do, then…” he trails off, chewing on the corner of his lip. “What’s the point, you know,” he finally finishes.
"when the night falls" 🔒 (E) by anonymous | 16,519 | In which Travis is strangely fascinated by the moody guy who keeps showing up at his coffee shop right as he’s closing. Well. The dude is hot. It’s not that complicated, actually.
"River for the Sea" 🔒 (E) by LoveLeah | 39,152 | It’s not that Nolan’s, like, hugely fucking into Travis. He literally barely knows him, but obviously he’s hot, tan and athletic with nice hair and pretty eyes and this dark tattoo just dipping out from under the sleeve of his t-shirt, wrapping around the thick muscle of his bicep.
"Bathe with You in the Sea" 🔒 (M) by LoveLeah | 2,549 | “Chase told us something,” his mom says. Travis' body feels fire hot under his parka, sweaty and closed in. “He says he thinks you didn’t come because--Travis, he says you told him you were gay.”
"Breathing Room" 🔒 (E) by makeit_takeit | 16,149 | “I dunno, dude.” Travis chews on the inside of his cheek, rubs his hand over the whiskers on his chin to feel them bend and slide and prickle under his fingers. “You ever just get tired of being in the city all the time? Just seeing like – airport, hotel, arena, bus, airport, and that’s it?”
"faith between our teeth" 🔒 (E) by waytoobright | 10,602 | For Travis, it feels like home. He knows the streets up and down every block, and he’s been working at his family friend’s hot dog stand since he turned fourteen and was legally allowed to work in the state of New Jersey. He’s got friends who work at other restaurants and shops down the boardwalk and everyone still comes back every summer. They all come rolling into town during the first few weeks of sun and sand, and then the summer really begins.
"The Strangest Trip" 🔒 (E) by makeit_takeit | 19,562 | Pat’s at the bar, back turned to the speeches. He looks like always: big, beautiful, perfect in his almost-pink-but-still-technically-taupe suit. Hair slicked back off his face, jaw clenched and trying hard to hide how much he doesn’t want to be here, gripping his wine glass a little too tight. Just looking at him, Travis can feel the almost desperate pull in his chest, the longing.
"Two Halves of a Whole Idiot" 🔒 (E) by littleconnections | 19,089 | Nolan's hair is getting long too, flicking into his eyes and Travis sits on the shore and watches, the pulling in his gut both familiar and not. What if I kiss him, he thinks.
"Friends Don't Look At Friends That Way" 🔒 (E) by Matriaya | 5,519 | Travis knows as soon as Sara suggests a threesome that he's gonna pick Patty. Obviously. Patty’s his best friend, and they see each other’s dicks like every fucking day at the rink, and he’s definitely walked in on Patty boning a chick before, so it will just be like that only… together.
"Hot House Grapes" 🔒 (E) by LoveLeah for Matriaya | 7,636 | Even after TK told him; after he found out he and TK both liked guys, he hadn't thought about TK as anything more than just TK. Like, he hadn't thought he wasn't hot, but he'd just never thought that much about it at all. Then they came back from the summer after their junior year, and Nolan walked into their dorm, and TK was sprawled out shirtless on the bottom bunk, dark tan and smiling, and Nolan took one look at him and was like: oh.
"Twice As Many Stars" 🔒 (E) by TheNorthRemembers | 230,251 | “Told you,” Nolan says, and it’s meant to be teasing but somehow his voice trails off into something softer at the look on Travis’ face. It’s not really surprise or shock like Nolan had expected, not entirely anyway. There’s disappointment there too, mixed with defiance and sadness. “You can’t save everyone.” The character's death screen is still showing, and it feels mocking in a way Nolan didn’t quite see coming. “I had to try, though,” Travis still says, unmoving for another second before he musters up a smile and presses the controller into Nolan’s hand. “You always gotta try.”
"in the name of being honest" 🔒 (E) by coastalhighway | 51,655 | From the moment the Flyers had stepped on the ice, Nolan had tried to catch TK’s eye, tried to make him fucking look at Nolan, but— The entire goddamn time. The entire goddamn game, TK never once met his eyes.
"Coming Undone" (E) by Linsky | 3,184 | For the record: Travis does hook up. A completely normal amount, even. He finds girls on Tinder and totally does go out with them. Just, that’s a lot of work, and sometimes he’s tired from hockey, and it just seems easier to stick to messaging. It’s still sort of like hooking up.
"latibule" (E) by wolver | 40,601 | "You're Nolan Patrick, right?" The guy presses on whether he gets an answer or not (he doesn't), "Bro, it's sweet we get to play together. You're fucking sick; your stick-handling skills are off the charts, my man, this is gonna be so sweet." Nolan can fucking feel the vibrations of Travis stifling a laugh, but of course Travis isn't going to throw him a rescue line like the fucker that he is. All Nolan can really do is stare blankly -- his first choice of words are highly inappropriate and he smothers them into an unintelligible mumble.
"before the wave hits" 🔒 (E) by anonymous | 16,477 | It's not really a big deal, is the thing. It's just that Travis thinks it's kind of weird that they've been best friends for three years and he's never seen Patty's dick.
"let's get tangled up together" (E) by wolver | 3,236 | Patty's back. A slice in the life from training camp.
"he's kinda quiet (but his body ain’t)" 🔒 (E) by thestarsatnight | 2,956 | Nolan is looking at him and with soft, knowing eyes, because he knows exactly how taxing it is sometimes to manage anything past getting up, breathing, and going back to bed.
"Tazete Tazone" 🔒 (M) by soupbowlfulofsins | 7,464 | One drunk kiss does not a bromance make. So obviously, Travis and Nolan step up their bro-kissing game.
"So long, Honey" 🔒 (E) by TheNorthRemembers | 11,649 | Nolan and Travis have been friends since they've been kids and in love almost just as long. Nolan is a hockey player, but Travis isn't, but Nolan still comes home to him every off season.
"wouldn’t know where to start" 🔒 (M) by anonymous | 7,090 | Travis just keeps pressing, keeps touching Nolan the same way he always has, and waits for it to stop feeling normal. It never does.
"what we do when we stop thinkin" 🔒 (E) by Matriaya | 6,687 | Travis leans up and presses a kiss to Nolan’s cheek, right smack in the hollow of it, where the fuzz is starting to creep up. It’s no more than a second, lips on skin, barely a glance, but he can’t quite meet Nolan’s gaze as he pulls away. “For good luck!”
"Good For You" 🔒 (E) by TheNorthRemembers | 40,282 | Travis finds out that Nolan has a big dick and becomes obsessed with it, discovering some stuff about himself along the way. Nolan mostly just enjoys the ride.
"Does Anybody Know" 🔒 (E) by thestarsatnight | 3,509 | Kevin was beaming at him. “Better believe we’re gonna celebrate that hatty once this pandemic’s over, TikiBar.” “Sure, sure,” Travis said, bobbing his head. There was a lot he’d told these guys over the years, a lot that he’d shared with this team, but some things were just for him, even in the jumbled up excitement of his brain. Instead, he said, “Plenty of time for you to catch up, Hayesy,” and Kevin’s answering laugh was enough.
"Rattling Cages" (E) by LoveLeah | 48,562 | Nolan gets ditched, wears short-shorts, and tries to figure out his head. Travis buys a dildo, spends $2000 on Etsy, and makes a folder for all the Nolan pictures on his phone.
"worn but young" 🔒 (E) by grace | 28,525 | Somehow though, with Patty it’s all felt different so far, though he would never have guessed it would in a thousand years. Travis keeps looking back to check how far ahead he’s gotten and every time Patty is right there with him, pacing him quiet and calm. Acting like it’s normal to want the things with a friend that Travis wants, the constant closeness, acting like Travis isn’t bothering or taking from him at all. It makes Travis feel giddy inside, like bubbles fizzing.
"shines when the sunset shifts" 🔒 (E) by grace | 15,391 | Nolan feels all the things he’s been wanting to say to someone and can’t rise up and crowd in; a pressure, a weather system. I thought I was better. I’m not doing well. It is happening again. It will happen forever. Instead he says, “Does that hurt?”
"born to be crazy, born to be wild" 🔒 (E) by anonymous | 6,353 | Nolan was not throwing himself a pity party. Was he injured? Yes. Was he injured for the seven-millionth fucking time? Unfortunately. Had he succumbed, under the covers in the wee hours of the morning, to his weakest impulse, searching his name on Twitter? Also yes. Had that sent him into a shame spiral? Obviously.
"if you need me, i'm the same as i was" 🔒 (T) by donderwolk | 4,719 | TK clears his throat, tries to go for sultry again then, but it’s part of the bit now, a little in-joke between the two of them, says, “What are you wearing?”
"i miss this time, last year" 🔒 (M) by donderwolk | 18,048 | Travis calls him about two hours after the news drops, says nothing for a whole ten seconds, then comes out with just a, “Nolan.” It’s less a word, and more a sigh. A strange and desperate thing. They haven’t spoken in eight months.
"stuck in my head, heart, body" 🔒 (E) by donderwolk | 2,434 | God, what would TK even do if he just — showed up? Pretend, Nolan thinks. Knows, really. He’d pretend, at least for a little while, that Nolan standing on his doorstep in fucking Haddonfield unannounced and on Valentine’s Day was the most normal thing a guy could do.
"sing it in my sleep" (M) by fadeastride | 3,954 | It takes three days after leaving the bubble for Travis to check his phone. He deletes most of the texts unread, but there's one from Nolan that just says, "You should come see me."
"the most exciting thing I'd ever known" (T) by fadeastride | 3,072 | The first time Nolan starts to actually think about it, they're in Claude's backyard for some kind of "welcome spring" barbecue that's really an excuse to drink too much cheap beer and cook meat over a fire. Nolan's four, maybe five, beers in when he tells Travis that he's got the balance of one of those goats that walk sideways up mountains and that he could totally walk the fence like a balance beam. "You cannot," Travis says, smashing another bite of hamburger into his mouth.
"any thrill will do"🔒 (E) by hackysack | 8,372 | Pat copes with it the same way he’s been coping with every other part of the Philadelphia break-up: he goes on Grindr.
"hold (me) still" 🔒 (E) by notthequiettype & solarperigee | 3,343 | Nolan watches out of the corner of his eye as TK gets more and more jittery, before he finally springs to his feet, presses a kiss to Nolan's cheek, and announces, “I've gotta go jerk it so I'm not sitting here with a boner all game, 'kay?” Nolan doesn't know what drives him to say it, but the words are out before he can stop to think about them. “You can do it here, if you're quick about it.”
"occupying space" 🔒 (E) by toxica939 | 4,278 | Nolan loves him. The thought’s like a bruise. Something better left to poke at later, press down on, see if it hurts.
"I Wish That It Was Easy" 🔒 (E) by littleconnections | 10,393 | Getting stuck in a time loop has never made anyone realise their feelings any quicker.
"Someone Else's Solid Ground" (E) by Linsky | 21,757 | Nolan’s body has never been his friend.

imagine just waking up next to nolan everyday and you're always touching in someway. like his arm is lazily slung over you or your head is on his chest and legs intertwined. and when he wakes up his voice would be so raspy, his eyes would be a little bit darker than normal and his curly hair would look so good. CHAPTER 1
“How am I supposed to remain professional and behave tonight when you look like that?” Dylan said while leaning against the doorframe to my bathroom dressed in a head to toe black suit.
He had his arms folded across his chest, with a hungry smirk on his lips and his devilish blue eyes were taking in my golden dress. His smile told me he liked the fit of it on my body. His eyes told me he couldn’t wait until it was around my ankles.
“Are you so eager to ignore your professional obligations to just stare at a woman getting ready? Technically you should already be at the gala, mingling with some bunny at the bar.” I stated, smirking.
“And yet you still let me in here. Interesting that you’re breaking one of your rules so early tonight. That usually only happens when I have you on your back.” He teased.
“Are you insinuating something other than my good manners, Mr. Coghlan?” I asked, smiling in the mirror while trying to fasten the clasp for my back necklace.
Cogs rolled his eyes and pushed himself away from the doorway. Making his way over to me to help with my jewelry. His hands making quick work of it. Giving him a perfect excuse to caress my spine and make me instantly melt against him.
“Maybe I’m not the only one who’s eager, eh?” Dylan said, kissing my neck.
I steadied myself by grabbing his thigh as a gasping moan escaped my lips. Sometimes I hated when he used that move on me. It guaranteed my knees would buckle. A slight growl reached my ear followed by an instinctive buck from Dylan’s groin. Even through my dress and his pants I could feel he was hard already.
“Are you sure you don’t just want to start right now?” He whispered into my ear, pulling my hips even closer to him. His breath sent chills throughout my body. It wasn’t until Dylan’s hands reached my breasts that I noticed how wet I had become.
I smirked as he gently raised one of his hands around my neck. Keeping the other on my chest.
“I want to put so much of my cum in you that it’s still dripping down your thighs when your walking around that stupid gala downstairs.” I bit my lip at the image he created. I didn’t want to admit that a small part of me wanted just that.
A sudden knock on the open door announced my bodyguard Ben’s arrival. I smirked again but silently was relieved at the interruption. Dylan slowly removed his arms around me and caressed my back again, ignoring the death stare from Ben.
“Curtain in 10, Miss L.”
“Thank you, Ben. Can you see Mr. Coghlan out, please.” I stated plainly.
“Yes, ma’am.” Ben said nodding. He motioned his arm towards the door waiting for Dylan to exit the room first.
But Cogs just smiled at me with that look in his eyes again. He wasn’t going to leave unless I made him. So I turned around to face him. His 6’2” frame towering over me. His eyes shifted down to my chest. The plunging neckline exposing not only my tattoos but plenty of cleavage. Taking note of his distraction I swiftly grabbed his tie with my left hand while my right hand firmly landed on his crotch, tugging both to get his attention back to my eye-line.
“You behave, I behave. Now be a good little defensemen and get downstairs before I decide to terminate our contract, Dylan.” I said with a slight venom to my tone, releasing him from my grip.
He cleared his throat, straightened his suit jacket and hair as he turned to leave with Ben close behind, covering my back.
I sighed and sat down on my cushioned bench.
“Another close call?” Ben said entering the room again.
“Too close this time. Thank you, Ben. I mean it.” I said standing and readjusting myself in the mirror again.
“Perhaps the frequency of Mr. Coghlan’s visits are straining your work ethic?” Ben said smirking.
I scoffed. “Dylan isn’t fucking me senseless Ben. He’s not Patty.” Me saying Nolan’s nickname out loud made me stop. Mixed emotions filled my head and heart. I looked past Ben to a specific door that had minimal light showing from the bottom.
“Is the package secured?” I asked, my eyes misty.
“Yes ma’am. Like clockwork.” He said smiling. I sighed with relief.
My phone began to buzz as my alarm went off, seconds later I felt the warmth of my edible I had taken earlier settle my mind. Grabbing my wallet and phone I quickly made my way to the side elevator of my suite with Ben not far behind.
As the doors began to close I took a deep breath and said, “And so it begins.”

For those of you who follow ColeyDoes Things on youtube may have seen her latest update "The BIGGEST fandoms on AO3". Getting the pleasant surprise of seeing Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on the tumbnail got me so excited.
I always pictured the fandom of Hockey RPF as a niche on AO3. This fandom got me into tumblr, AO3 along with reading fan fiction all together. I've been part of this fandom for the last 8 years. Hockey in general is a big part of my life. I had so many thoughts, so much knowledge and for years it was the only fandom I read fanfiction for.
I am so excited to see it part of the 20 top fandom on a site like AO3. I didn't expect seeing this fandom so high up, and I'm honestly so excited seeing the video beacuse right now I'm 28 minutes in the video and she's going through place #15 and she still didn't get to HOCKEY RPF and I'm astounded and so excited. I can't wait to find out their placement on the top 20 fandoms. And all through the video I can't wait to see her reaction to the top ships and tags.
Seein in #12 SPORTS RPF and knowing that technically HOCKEY RPF should be under this umbrealla but in actuality HOCKEY RPF usually tagged only under HOCKEY RPF I'm shocked. I know how technically in the last year or so there was a booming in the romance genre of Hockey Romance Books, but I'm not quite sure what it did to the popularity of Hockey on AO3. Plus, hockey is well known as the least popular sport out of the major legues of North America so I am so surprised to see how popular it actually is.
Now after RAVING about the superiority of HOCKEY RPF VS. SPORTS RPF, apparently I was fundementally wrong and got dissapointed.
I was sure that AO3 seperated each and every "sport's field" RPF as a seperated entoty and not logged them together. Through the whole video I was waiting for the moment of the fandom I was so excited about being talked about. With each fandom she would look at the top ships and characters. Through watching the video I was debating with myself about the top 10 pairings. It's been a while since I looked up the exact list. So I was under no impression that Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin would be the number one pair. But as for the others I debated with myself. Just for the fun of it the list I had in my mind who is based on my personal experience and on various post about the top main paieings of Hockey are:
Sidney Croaby/Evgeni Malkin
Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews
Jamie Benn/Tyler Seguin (I know fhat it used to be their place, and I am well aware how they are barely any new fics about them, but I still want to believe they are on the top 10 pairs).
Danny Briere/Claude Giroux
Alexander Ovechkin/Nicklas Backstrom
Nolan Patrick/Travis Konecny
Leon Driasytel/Matthew Ktchuk.
Connor McDavid/Leon Driasytel
Sidney Crosby/Claude Giroux
Jeff Carter/Mike Richards (a girl can dream).
After getting it out of the way. What happened in the video was- she read a bunch of pairing from different sports. Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin was in fact the number on pairings. Which was extra impressive when you take into account the different feilds of sports. But in fairness it seemed like Hockey RPF was one of the OG Sports RPF with continued audience. And as for those two they had the benefit of playing with each other close to 20 years.
Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews also made the list, at around number 5. It made me so happy. As someone who was a big reader for 1988 it made me so happy. Also Coley didn't know how to read Toews so she read it as TOE-EZ, and through my mind I thought "Patrick Sharp would be so proud". Also it rather fitting to accidently hit a major theme in many of the 1988 fics, especially the older ones.
She also had a big surprise to see Omegaverse as one of the main tags. As someone who adores omegaverse and specifically reading it with the context of sports RPF it didn't surprise me in the slightest.
It also made me really happy to see the second most kudoed fic being a Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin wedding day fic. Especially because I know I put it in my marked for later list and there is a podfic version of it with 5 hours lengh.
Even though it wasn't to the extent that I wanted to, I still enjoyed the video and seeing even the mention of some major pairings who I read many fics about, gave me joy.

God look at Nico, pastry chef, all-around boyfriend material… I always forget about him but then whenever I see him I want to read all the fic about him. But with who??
anon i have to confess i am not a connoisseur of the nico hischier fanfiction scene though i know it exists. i know people ship him with jack hughes (i also do, though i don't really seek out fic) and jonas siegenthaler and back in the day with nolan patrick (i had a real fondness for this at the time but idk if it's still on anyone's mind at all). if you want recs other people might be able to provide but for myself i mostly just occasionally see pictures of him and write a little imagine for myself in my head and then move on 😂

Final Summer at the Cabin ~ Nolan Patrick
Summary: The small community of summer cabins was where you and Nolan met and where every summer you grew closer and closer. After some time apart your history is tested when Nolan invites Travis up to visit.
Word Count: ~3.8k
Warnings: drinking
A/N: This is quite rushed but I wanted to get something finished because I’ve been promising to do that for awhile. I also know that the whole Nolan/Travis friend dynamic was played out in fics like 4 years ago but I didn’t want to put too much thought into another friend for the fic.
Picking up a pair of jeans from the pile of clean laundry on the end of your bed you fold them carefully before dropping them into a large box on your bedroom floor. “I don’t know, mom. I should just start looking for jobs once I get back,” you say, your phone on speaker sitting next to your pile of laundry.
“You have your whole life ahead of you to look for jobs. Just come spend spend the summer at the cabin with us. You know, you may not have a whole summer off to spend there for a long time once you get a job.”
The cabin. Summer at the cabin. It brought back incredible memories from your childhood. As soon as school would wrap up for the year you would pack up every article of summer clothing you owned and pile into the car with your parents to drive an hour up to the cabin on the lake that your parents had bought the year you started kindergarten. The little community held many memories and a few close friends, other kids of families who owned cabins to occupy during the hottest months of the year.
But after high school you moved away for university and between jobs and internships and summer courses you were never able to make it up to the cabin for more than a long weekend here or there.
“I don’t know, I-.”
“I heard through the grapevine that Nolan is going to be there this summer,” your mom cuts in.
Dropping the sweater you were in the midst of folding you stare at the screen of your phone. “And what does that mean?”
“Well I know you too had so much fun together every summer and you haven’t gotten to see each other for a few years so I thought you might like to see him again.” You wait a second and before you have the chance to say anything your mom continues on. “And that last summer you were both there the whole time, you two were really cute together. Maybe you could revisit that.”
Your mom was always a big fan of Nolan. But you didn’t expect one summer fling to leave such a lasting impression on her. “It was one summer, mom. Not even the whole summer either, and it was barely anything. We made out a whole bunch over like a month and a half, not exactly the stuff of romance novels now is it?”
“It was a month and a half after you having a crush on him your whole life.”
“Oh my god, I’m not coming to spend three months at a cabin to see a boy I had a crush on when I was like seventeen.”
“Fine, when you put it like that,” your mom begins, huffing loudly. “At least come up to see your family then. You don’t have to stay for the whole summer if you don’t want, just come for a bit.”
“Okay, I will.”
Two weeks later and you’re sitting on the beach in front of your cabin with a can of vodka soda and a book, working on the beginning of your summer tan. The sun was hot on your skin that was glistening with a layer of sunscreen. Just as you go to turn the page you hear a voice calling your name. Turning your head you shield your eyes from the sun to see the figure approaching you. Tall and handsome as always you can’t help the smile that spreads on your lips.
“Heard a rumour you would be here,” you call as Nolan gets closer before dropping down onto the sand beside you.
“I’m not the one who hasn’t shown up the last three years,” Nolan teases. “Congratulations on graduating, I ran into your mom on the way down, she said you graduated with honours.”
You can’t help but roll your eyes. “Of course that would be one of the first things she says to you,” you giggle. “It’s really not that big of a deal.”
“It’s a big enough deal to keep you so busy you couldn’t even come back to see us over the summers.”
Groaning dramatically you tip your head back to look up at the sky. “Everyone is really on my ass about that,” you laugh. “Anyway, how long are you sticking around here for?”
“I have to head back for training camp at the end of August.”
“You mean I have to put up with you for three whole months?” You can’t help but notice the way your stomach feels alive with butterflies sitting next to him next to the beach and joking like you hadn’t been separated for years.
Nolan laughs at that, shaking his head. “I’m the one who has to put up with you.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You scoff.
“Who rubs your sunscreen onto your back every hour? Or the aloe when you end up burning anyway? I can’t even remember the amount of times I’ve had to take care of you when you had a few too many drinks, and-.”
“Okay, stop,” you laugh, reaching over and playfully pushing Nolan to get him to stop teasing you.
“Okay, okay,” Nolan chuckles, standing up and reaching his arms down to grasp your hands. “Let’s go get ice cream.”
Gathering the items you had at the beach you drop them off on the patio on the way up the road to the tiny little store in the centre of the community that sold everything from ice cream to fishing tackle.
“Any plans tomorrow?” You ask, walking along the sidewalk next to Nolan.
“My friend from when I used to play in Philly is coming up for a bit tonight so we’re going to go fishing tomorrow.”
“I see,” you hum. “Who, um, who’s your friend?”
“Travis,” Nolan tells you, pulling the door to the convenience store open, the bell above the door jingling to announce your arrival. “Are you still on that strawberry ice cream kick?”
Looking up at Nolan you feel a small smile growing on your lips, that he would remember that the only ice cream you would eat the last summer the two of you were here was the strawberry swirl ice cream. “It’s not a kick, Nolan. It’s a lifestyle.”
Walking up the counter Nolan orders and pays for both of your ice creams before the two of you wander slowly back to your cabin, taking the time to catch up on everything you had missed the last few years. “Bonfire tonight?’ You suggest as you get back to the cabin, sitting on the steps that look out onto the lake.
“Absolutely,” Nolan replies without hesitation. After awhile Nolan heads over to his family’s cabin when he gets a text from Travis that he had arrived. Heading back inside you spend a little extra time showering and doing your hair and makeup. You knew you shouldn’t care about what you looked like. Nothing was going to happen with you and Nolan, that ship had long ago sailed and he had definitely grown out of your league.
Once the sun had set Nolan sent you a text to let you know that the fire was going and to come over whenever. After gathering some drinks you head down the short path that connected his cabin to yours and down to the beach where a small group of people were standing around the fire.
“Hey,” Nolan calls and you drop your bag of drinks onto the sand before walking over to him. “This is Travis,” Nolan introduces you to the guy standing next to him.
“You must be Y/N,” Travis says. “Heard a lot about you.”
“Oh god,” you groan, looking over at Nolan. “Hopefully not terrible stuff.”
“Not terrible,” Travis jokes. “Do you want a drink?” He asks, gesturing to your empty hands.
“Oh, I brought some,” you tell him, walking back over and grabbing a drink from your bag.
Eventually everyone finds seats around the fire, Travis in between you and Nolan. After a few drinks and a lot of small talk Travis turns his attention to you.
“So are you coming fishing tomorrow?”
Shaking your head you finish off your watermelon white claw. “I wasn’t invited,” you tell him jokingly. It wasn’t untrue but you didn’t mean for it to come off as anything other than a joke.
“Well I think we could probably change that,” Travis tells you, glancing over at Nolan who was very evidently pretending not to listen to the conversation you two were having.
“I’m not much of a fishing….person,” you inform him, leaning back on your hands as you stare ahead of you at the fire.
“You don’t have to fish,” Travis says. “Just come on the boat and look pretty.”
Giggling you turn your head to look up at him. “I think I can get on board with that.”
“Perfect,” Travis chuckles.
As the night continues on you talk more and more with Travis, getting to know him a little better. At least as well as you can get to know someone once you’re both drunk and giggling at almost everything that’s being said.
“Well I should probably call it a night soon if I’m coming out on the boat tomorrow,” you eventually say, gathering up your empties into a bag that Nolan had brought down from the cabin.
“How far is your place?” Travis asks, stumbling to his feet.
“Not far,” you tell him, pointing up the beach to the path. “Just up there.”
“Let me walk you,” Travis suggests.
You’re a little taken aback by the offer but you nod in agreement a moment later. Crouching down you wrap your arms around Nolan who was still sitting on the ground. Your chest was pressed to his back and you rest your head on his shoulder. “See you tomorrow,” you whisper in his ear.
Nolan reaches up and squeezes your hand. “Have a good sleep,” he mumbles.
“Thank you.” Leaning over you kiss his cheek gently before standing back up.
“And don’t be late tomorrow,” Nolan calls after you, knowing your track record of sleeping in during the summer.
Walking next to Travis you feel a slight tension between the two of you. “So, what’s your deal with Nolan?” Travis finally asks.
“Hm?” You hum, broken from your trance. Looking up at Travis you wait for him to go on.
“You know, like, are you two more than just, uh, friends?”
“We, um, yeah…I mean, no, we’re just friends.” You contemplate spilling the truth, that you seemed to still have feelings for Nolan after all these years, that Nolan had been your first real crush, that the two of you spent a month and a half together, happily spending every waking moment together.
“Oh,” Travis says and you can’t tell if it’s doubt or surprise in his voice.
As your cabin appears in view you point towards it. “Well, this is it,” you tell Travis. “Thank you for walking me back.”
“No problem,” Travis tells you. “So, there really is nothing happening with you and Nolan?”
“No,” you giggle, leaning against the railing to your deck. “I mean, we did, you know…but that was years ago.”
“Hooked up?” Travis presses.
“No, we never had sex. It was the summer after high school, I was still a virgin and kinda scared to lose it. But we spent the last part of the summer kind of…together, I guess,” you mumble, the alcohol making the words slur together.
“Oh…shit,” Travis mutters. “So you were actually something, not just a hookup.”
“I guess,” you shrug, staring down at the ground in hopes that Travis wouldn’t notice the way your heart ached at the thought of you and Nolan once being something, something that no longer existed between the two of you.
“So earlier when I asked if you were more than just friends?” Travis pries.
“We are…we’re just friends now. I promise, we’re just friends now.”
“Okay,” Travis says, leaning into the railing on the opposite side of the stairs that you were standing on. The two of you hold eye contact for a few moments beyond what feels casual.
Finally you look towards the door, your whole body swaying with intoxication. “I guess I should go inside.”
Travis nods, stepping back from the cabin. “Goodnight.”
Stepping up a few stairs you glance back at Travis. “See you tomorrow.”
The next morning you power through a bottle of water, a couple advil and a pancake breakfast that your mom had made before heading down the dock where you were meeting Nolan and Travis.
“Good morning,” you call as you approach the boat, a cooler bag with drinks and snacks over one shoulder, another one with a towel, book, and sunscreen in your other hand.
“Good morning,” Travis replies, catching the bowline that Nolan throws with noticeably unnecessary force. “We get it, you’re strong,” Travis quips, though Nolan fails to respond to it.
“Someone seems grumpy,” you tease as you get closer, swinging your bags into the boat.
“I’m not grumpy,” Nolan mutters, hoping into the boat and extending his hand out to yours to help your into the boat.
Reaching over you take his hand, letting him support you as you drop down into the boat. “Nolan, seriously, are you okay?” You ask quietly, standing so close to him that you were almost touching.
“I’m fine, Y/N,” he nearly snaps, reaching over and turning the key in the ignition, the sound of the engine coming to life one of the only sounds on the morning lake.
“Okay,” you mumble, sitting down on one of the seats opposite him, your eyes finding Travis who was looking at you with equal levels of confusion. Sure, Nolan wasn’t the most chipper person, but he would almost never snap at you like that.
Shortly after you’re floating halfway across the lake, the engine turned off as Travis and Nolan sit in silence with their fishing rods in the water. You can’t help but feel like maybe you shouldn’t have come, feeling like you were interrupting the fishing trip. Taking your book out of your bags you pull your legs up onto the seat you were in, hoping if you made yourself as small as possible while involving yourself in your own activity Travis and Nolan could at the very least talk.
When you finally look up from your book your eyes connect with Nolan and you wonder how long he’s been staring at you. Smiling gently you see the corners of his lips fight against a smile of their own. “You two don’t seem to be getting very lucky,” you comment, hoping to break the tense silence.
“We need a good luck charm,” Travis chuckles.
“And what would your good luck charm be?” You inquire, setting your book down.
“Why don’t you come closer and see if it’s you,” Travis suggests.
Rolling your eyes playfully you stand up, walking to the stern of the boat and sitting down on the seat between Nolan and Travis. “So, like, how long does this usually take?”
“Awhile,” Nolan deadpans.
“Oh my god, Nolan, I’m going to throw you overboard,” you burst out jokingly. “You’re being so fucking cranky so either tell me what your problem is or drop it,” you tell him.
“I told you I’m fine,” Nolan insists. “Now you need to drop it, you weren’t even supposed to come today.”
“Jesus, man, you don’t have to be so mean to her,” Travis chimes in.
“I’m not being mean,” Nolan defends. “I just didn’t invite you here for you to hang out with Y/N this whole week.”
“You know what, just take me back to the dock, I’ll go home.” Standing up you walk over to your bag, stuffing your belongings back into it while trying to blink away the tears that were forming in your eyes. You hated yourself for getting upset about something so inconsequential, but the thought of Nolan not wanting to spend time with you after so long was heartbreaking.
“Y/N, no, wait,” Nolan huffs, standing up and walking over to you. “I didn’t, I didn’t mean, I’m sorry, that came out wrong, I want to spend time with you.”
Nolan’s hand lands on your arm but you swing back and shake him off the second it does. “Don’t touch me,” you mutter, zipping your bag shut and dropping it onto the ground. You refused to turn around till Nolan had stepped back, hoping that if there was even a foot of distance between the two of you he wouldn’t notice your glossy eyes.
“I’m sorry,” Nolan repeats, this time his voice is softer, almost pleading.
“It doesn’t matter, Nolan. I didn’t mean to get in the way of your boys trip so please just take me back so you two can hang out.”
“I don’t want you to go,” Nolan whispers, gently turning you around so you were facing him. “I really don’t.”
“Then why are you being mean?” You whisper, wiping away the tears that had pooled in your waterline.
“I didn’t mean to be, I’m sorry,” Nolan tells you, pulling you into his chest. You can’t help but give in, wrapping your arms around him, letting him hold you in a tight embrace. “Would it be mean if I threw you into the water right now?”
Scoffing you push him away, giggling. “Yes, that would be so mean.”
“You threatened to do it to me first,” Nolan defends with a chuckle.
“But I didn’t do it,” you point out, sitting back down and reaching for your book again.
The tension dissipates slightly after that, though you spend most of the morning reading and sipping coolers in your own little world on the boat. That was until you started to pull off your t-shirt and shorts, exposing your bikini clad body. “What?” You ask, noticing Nolan glancing over at you.
“Are you going in?”
Shaking your head you sit back down, adjusting the straps of your bikini. “No, it’s just hot.”
“Okay,” Nolan mutters, turning his attention back to where his fishing rod was hanging over the side of the boat while you stare at him curiously for a few more minutes.
A few hours later neither Nolan or Travis had caught anything and the three of you decided to head back in to spend some time on the beach instead. Spreading your towel out on the sandy beach you pull your sunscreen from your bag, glancing over at Nolan. “Can you put some on my back, please?”
“Yeah, give me a minute,” he replies, in the midst of spreading out his own towel.
Travis steps closer, taking the sunscreen from your hands. “I’ll do it,” he offers.
“No,” Nolan suddenly snaps, turning around and staring at Travis. “No, you can’t.”
“What?” Travis asks.
“Why?” You add at the same time.
“Stop, stop fucking flirting with her, Travis. It’s pissing me off,” Nolan says, eyes glued on Travis.
“I’m not, man. I just offered to put sunscreen on for her,” Travis defends, hands raised in front of him.
“That’s bullshit, you’ve been flirting with her since you met her and you need to cut it out, she’s mine and you need to back off.”
You feel your breath get caught in your throat when you hear Nolan call you his. Because it wasn’t true, but you wanted it to be so badly. But you couldn’t handle him being possessive after so many years of not being anything but friends. “What?” You whisper.
“No, shit, I didn’t mean, I just,” Nolan stammers but you’re already gathering your things. “Y/N, wait, I didn’t mean that, I mean, not like that. We just, we have a history and he’s my friend and just-.”
“Save it, Nolan, I’m going home.” Quickly scurrying up the beach you refrain from looking back, not slowing down till you’re at the front steps of your cabin, your eyes meeting your mom who was sitting on the front deck with a drink in her hand.
“Everything okay?” Your mom asks, noticing your frazzled appearance.
Shaking your head you collapse into the chair beside her, recounting the events of the afternoon.
“And how do you feel about it?” She asks.
“I don’t know,” you whisper. “I think I, um, might still have feelings for him. But he can’t claim me like, as his if he’s not going to, you know, actually make me his.”
“So you do want to be with him.”
“I didn’t say that.” Sitting up straighter you look over at her with wide eyes. “I didn’t say that.”
“Sounds a bit like you did.” Your mom brings your drink to her lips, taking another drink. “I’m going to get dinner started, you want to help?”
Nodding you get to your feet, heading inside to the welcome distraction of making dinner. After dinner you have a couple more drinks with your mom while watching reruns of the bachelor till she heads to bed. As you’re getting ready for bed you hear a gentle knock on the front door of the cabin.
“Nolan,” you say quietly when you open the front door. “What’s going on?”
“I wanted to talk, to apologize, I guess.
Leaning against the doorframe you wait for him to go on.
“I guess I was jealous, seeing the way Travis was talking to you last night. I really thought he was flirting and then you two left together and you know…”
“No,” you shake your head, arms crossed over your chest. “I don’t know.”
“Obviously you guys hooked up, you left drunk together, I know what happens, I’m not dumb. And-.”
“Nols,” you interrupt, reaching over and placing your hand on his forearm. “We didn’t hook up, we didn’t do anything.”
“You didn’t?”
“No,” you laugh, shocked that he would even think that. “We walked back, he asked me about you and I and then I went to bed. I wouldn’t do that, Nolan. He’s your friend and we used to be…whatever we were. I wouldn’t do that to you.”
“Oh,” Nolan mutters, his cheeks bright red. “Is that the only reason you wouldn’t?”
Swallowing heavily you shake your head. “No,” you whisper, taking a step closer to him.
“Can I kiss you?” Nolan whispers, his hands ghosting over your hips, waiting for permission.
“Yes.” Reaching up you slide your hands along his shoulders, one hand finding its way to the back of his neck as he leans down, lips pressing against yours gently. It only takes a couple seconds before the kiss grows heated, your hands grasping at his t-shirt, fingers curling into the soft fabric. “Nolan,” you whisper against his lips.
“Yes, sweetheart?” Nolan whispers, with the same sweetness that he showered you with the summer you two were together.
“I can’t do this again, not if it’s just going to end in August.”
Nolan presses his lips to your forehead before tugging you into a tight hug. “What if it doesn’t have to?”
“Then that’s different,” you mutter into his chest, wiggling a little more space between the two of you in order to lean up and kiss him again. “Then this is exactly what I want.”

so this was for the Summer Fic Exchange that @antoineroussel hosted this year and i got assigned to write a fic for @luvsherleafs
this was my first time doing a fic exchange so it took me a while to figure out what i wanted the fic to be about and making sure i met the requirements - so far i had a few mutuals read it so it made sense and that nothing was wrong so i'm hoping you liked it
*i couldn’t exactly think of anything to write at first so i used multiple prompts from both this list and this list*
the prompts i used/based the fic off are:  person A can’t sleep so they wake up person B - person B is exhausted but they stay awake with person A until person a falls asleep +
“I wanted to say i love you for the first time without stuttering but that failed”
warnings: mention of injuries, fluff

     1. After a game
There were many benefits that came out of your friendship with Nolan. Never having to use a step stool whenever he came over because of his height and how he was tall enough to reach the highest shelves. Even growing up, he’ll sometimes put things up high so you’ll have to ask for his help or getting to go to games and sometimes getting to see the behind the scenes stuff before and after games. He was one of the nicest people you could call a friend, even if sometimes he looked like he was virtually unapproachable. It just depended on who he was with but overall he was one of the nicest people you know, and could trust and depend on him.
The final buzzer sounded off at the Wells Fargo center, signaling the end of the game. You tried to hide yourself in the crowd for the entirety of the game and hoped Nolan wouldn’t see you. He was a little disappointed you couldn’t make it to the game because of work, especially when he was playing hockey professionally for the first time again after a rough season and managed to get a hat trick, wishing you could see it, and tried to hide the sadness behind his celebration during the game.
People began to exit celebrating the win as you waited until it was clear enough to go back. It was normal at this point for you to wait by the doors of the locker room seeing that everyone knew who you were after seeing you multiple times with Nolan. The doors opened as each player began to leave with their respective partner if they came to the game while everyone said their goodbyes. Travis noticed you quickly by the familiar “Patrick 19” jersey you wore and you glanced back at your phone as he walked up to you.
“Hey stranger,” someone said, making you jump
“Jesus TK, don’t do that!” you told him, grabbing your chest before hugging him.
“Patty’s just doing an interview right now so he’ll be out soon,” he said as Karly walked up to the two of you.
“Figured, seeing how he played tonight,” you replied as Nolan exited the room, just ready to go home
“Alright man, I’m done are-” Nolan began, but broke into a smile when he saw you.
“You’re here? I thought you had work?” he said surprised, giving you a hug.
“Well technically I did but I managed to get off early. And by early I mean, I have to go in early tomorrow,” you explained as you pulled away from his hug.
“Well that sucks but I’m glad you made it!” He gave you another hug, as TK and Karly left.
“Of course I would make it and I’m glad I did.” You started to walk out, but he stopped you.
“Thanks, uh,.” Nolan hesitated, wanting to get his feelings together to tell you how he feels. “There’s something I need to tell you.”
“Go ahead, what is it?”
“Uh, we’ve been friends for a long time and I started to realize something...” he started,
“What I realized was-”
“Patty! C’mon! We’re going to celebrate!” Claude yelled over at him.
“What were you saying? It sounded important, tell me as we walk.”
“No, it’s fine. Um, it can wait.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah of course,” he nodded as they left together, upset to lose the chance to tell you while riding an adrenaline high and good energy
         2. After a heartbreak
It hadn’t been that long since Nolan tried to tell you how he really feels. He knew what he was doing especially since you were already in a relationship and didn’t want anything to ruin your friendship. It’s what runs through his mind most of the time but he sees you’re always happy when you’re out with the person you’re dating and sometimes it hurts him but he won’t admit anything yet.
It was another Friday night and while it was still the regular season it didn’t mean that he didn’t get to have days off. When he did, he tried to enjoy them as much as he could since they gave him time to think, whether it was just about hockey or if it was just about his personal life, and it was some of the few times where he didn’t have to worry as much. The most he did that day was go for a run, skate, and run errands, now he was relaxing watching whatever piqued his interest. Nolan was soon snapped out of his thoughts when he heard knocking on his door. He didn’t order any food nor was he expecting  anyone to be at his and Kevin’s apartment for the night since Kevin was out and had his own keys. Pausing his movie, he got up and opened the door to find you standing there with tears streaming down your face.
“Hey what happened?” Nolan asked, concerned, stepping aside to let you in.
“He cheated on me,” was all you could say when you walked into the apartment and into his arms for a much-needed hug.
Nolan couldn’t help but tense up a bit after you told him that but quickly relaxed and took you to the couch to sit down. Going into the kitchen to grab you some water, he thought about whether it was the right time to tell you how he felt. When he came back he found you drying your eyes before looking up at him as he handed you the water and sat back down.
“You okay now?” he asked, not knowing what to say
“I don’t know how I feel. I’m feeling so many things at once, but now I just feel like I’ve been betrayed. I told him he has until tomorrow evening to leave,” you tried to explain but can’t help feeling frustrated. Nolan nodded, listening to you and shaking off the urge to hurt the guy, knowing it would hurt you more.
“Do you want to stay here tonight and then tomorrow I can go with you back to your place?”
“Yeah I’d like that. I’m sorry for bothering you on one of your days off-”
“Y/N, it’s fine. You can always count on me to help you no matter what is going on or what happened.”
“Thanks Patty, you’re gonna make a lucky girl so happy someday,” you smiled at him, not knowing how badly he wanted to be with you.
“Yeah I hope so,” he mumbled, watching you get comfortable and engrossed in the movie.
Throughout the rest of the movie Nolan couldn’t pay attention to what was playing on his tv and just let it play until he looked down and realized you’d fallen asleep with your head on his chest. It was late and he didn’t want to disturb you, but still wanted you to sleep comfortably. He gently shook your shoulder and whispered your name to wake you..
“Hey, Y/N? C’mon let’s get to bed. You don’t want to sleep on the couch, I’ll sleep in the guest room and you can take my bed,” Nolan said, and he picked you up to take you to his room. You were too tired to protest and your head still hurt from all the crying so you couldn’t argue with him.
Nolan laid you down on his bed before pulling the covers up and leaving some painkillers on the nightstand for you to take in the morning in case your head still hurt. You soon closed your eyes again as Nolan left his room to get settled in the guest bedroom for the night. It wasn’t his bed and he had trouble sleeping but soon his eyes started to close with the tv in the background as he thought about you before slowly falling asleep. The only problem was that you weren’t able to sleep. After Nolan left, you felt your sense of security and the one person you knew you could always trust was in the other room. You wanted him to be with you but you didn’t want to bother him thinking that he’d be most likely asleep after seeing him try to hide his yawns when you were venting to him. After staring at the ceiling for a few minutes, you got up and went to the living room to see if he was there before not finding him there. Slowly going back, you decided to check the guest bedroom and slowly opened the door to find him asleep with the tv on. At first you didn’t know whether or not to awaken him before walking in quietly. You never noticed how peaceful he looked when he slept and it killed you to wake him.
“Nolan?” you whispered hoping he’d wake up, but he didn’t. The most he did was go from sleeping on his side to his back.
“Nols? Patty?” you tried one more time, this time shaking his shoulder. He opened his eyes, momentarily disoriented.
“Y/N? You okay?”
“Yeah, I just couldn’t sleep. Couldn’t stop thinking, and I felt safer with you and-” “It’s okay, c’mon,” he said, scooting over making room in the bed.
“You sure?”
“Yeah, it’s just sleeping,” he said, cringing slightly at his words.
“Just sleeping,” you echoed, in a thoughtful tone that you’re not sure he noticed as you slipped into the bed beside him.
Despite being more comfortable, too many thoughts were running through your head, keeping you from relaxing.
“Nols?”
“Hmm.”
“Are you mad that I didn’t listen to you the first time you met him?” you asked hesitantly, scared of his answer.
“I’m not mad, it was your choice to make. I’m just disappointed ‘cause you deserve a lot better.”
“Thanks. I’m too tired to talk about it anymore.” You roll over to face him.
“It’s okay. What do you want to talk about?” He gave your arm an encouraging rub.
“I’d rather hear what’s on your mind.”
“Oh, just how the rest of the season is going to go, if anything’s going to set me back, how much I l-” he cut himself off
He didn’t want to put any pressure on you by admitting his feelings while you were vulnerable, and especially didn’t want to lose your friendship
“How much you what?”
“How I value our friendship…”
“Yeah, keep talking...” you said sleepily and he continued to talk about his hockey schedule, and what plans he wanted to make for the off season if they didn’t make playoffs… and so on until you both dozed off
      3. At a party
It was the holidays which meant holiday parties happening and you were going to be invited to every single one of them. You somehow managed to make up excuses for some that you didn’t want to attend, saying you had either other plans or that your family was in town and you wanted to spend time with them. At this point you didn’t remember whose party you’d gone to and whose party you hadn't gone to. The only one you felt most comfortable attending was Claude and Ryanne’s annual Christmas party. It was an expected invite considering how close you became with the team after they understood how close your friendship was  with Nolan. They felt like a second family now..
The house was crowded with the team and their families, children running around and playing with each other, adults watching them carefully while talking to each other as Christmas music played softly in the background. You were talking to Karly and Ryanne about the rest of the season and your plans for the holidays. You glanced over Karly’s shoulder to see Nolan chatting with Phil and Bee before locking eyes with yours and smiling. The two women noticed you were distracted and exchanged glances, before Ryanne spoke up.
“So, Y/N, when are you and Nolan going to stop eye fucking and admit your feelings for each other?” she asked you innocently, making you choke on your drink.
“What?” you squeaked in confusion.
“You and Nolan? I mean we know you like each other.”
“No, we-- we’re just friends. I’m still fresh from a breakup— I’m not--.”
“Oh please-” Karly began, but Nolan interrupted just in time.
“Hey, can I borrow you?”
“Yeah, I’ll talk to you two later,” you say, ignoring the knowing smirks on their faces as they sipped their drinks and turning their backs to you while walking away
You and Nolan made your way through the crowd of party-goers, making sure not to hit any of the kids. Stepping onto the porch, Nolan closed the doors before walking over to where you were leaning over the wood railing. The night was quiet and the only noise that the two of you could hear was the faint holiday music playing back inside the house. Neither one of you spoke but you could tell that Nolan wanted to say something by the way he was fidgeting and hesitating when he’d try to speak..
“I need to tell you something.”
“Can we talk?”
You spoke at the same time, making you laugh.
“Go ahead, you go first. You seemed like you needed to get something off your chest,” you say, and his shoulder relaxes a little.
“Thanks. I haven’t been sure how to say this,” ” Nolan started
“There’s this girl, and a lot of people seem to know I like her, the only problem is, whenever I try to tell her I get interrupted…”
“I’m sure you’ll get your chance,” you say, unable to truly encourage him, but wanting him to be happy.
“About that, we’ve known each other a long time, and I’ve kept it to myself…” he paused to take a deep breath, clearly nervous
“What is it?” you asked, hating to see him uncomfortable
“Y/N,  I’ve been scared to say--”
“Hey guys it’s Secret Santa time, c’mon!” Claude called, sticking his head out the door.
“We’ll be right there!” you replied before turning back to Nolan.
“What were you going to say?” you questioned as he shook his head with a sigh.
“I don’t wanna have to rush through it, let’s not keep them waiting.” he said giving an awkward smile before walking towards the doors. You didn’t say anything as a frown etched upon your face before shaking it off and putting on a fake smile and walking back inside.
The rest of the night was filled with curiosity, this was the third time he tried to tell you something but someone or something got in the way. The rest of the night he couldn’t keep his eyes off you as you laughed and talked with everyone as they opened with whatever gag gift they had gotten.
     4. During a training session
You’d do anything for Nolan and he knew that. You were there with him during his draft day and he would always text and call throughout the entire time he was getting drafted. Whenever he asked you to go to a game before and after the NHL you’d always make sure that you didn’t have anything to do that day so you could go. There was only one thing you gritted your teeth through, and that was training with him. It didn’t matter whether it was on the ice or whether it was lifting weights you’d still go with him, because you liked the quality time you got to spend with him. He usually would cut you some slack if you looked really tired, and just let you sit on the bench while he finished his sets. This was one of those days where he had asked you to train with him by himself before the rest of the season continued after the holidays.
Nolan was up early and already at your apartment ready for the day while you were still in bed before he knocked on your door. He knocked multiple times until he finally decided to use his spare keys. As he was about to insert the key, you opened the door, tired with a look on your face while he was smiling ready for the day.
“Nolan, you’re one of my oldest best friends and I love you, but I hate your guts right now.” you said grouchily while walking away and into the kitchen after letting him inside, missing his pained expression over your ‘I love you’.
“You agreed, and offered to be my workout buddy when everyone else bailed. So technically this is on you. You could’ve politely declined and that  would’ve been fine, you know that” he said as he grabbed some mugs for the coffee you started to prepare for the two of you
He got caught up watching you move about your kitchen, comfortable and beautiful even though you’d argue that you were a mess. No matter what you were wearing or how you looked, Nolan would always compliment you in some way. It was until he noticed that the shirt you were wearing was one of his from his Brandon Wheat Kings days making him smile at the memory of you at his last game with them. He never had a problem with you taking his clothes seeing how often you stayed at his place, both in Philly and in Winnipeg and he offered you to wear his, especially if you two went out and you were wearing something uncomfortable.
Nolan snapped out of his thoughts when he heard the coffee machine beep before grabbing it and poured it into the mugs, preparing yours by memory before handing it over to you. The two of you exchanged light chit chat until you went to get changed to head to the gym and not the ice today based off of his outfit.
The ride to the Flyers gym was quiet. You usually got to listen to Nolan talk about his plans for the offseason if they didn’t make it to the playoffs or anything that came to his head, but not today. You could tell something was bothering him. The only sound through the entire ride was the playlist he had made for the two of you that shared all your favorite songs, even songs you loved that you didn’t tell him or show him were on the playlist.
When you both arrived, you both went your separate ways and did your own things. You couldn’t help but look at him whenever he did pull ups, his shirt rising a little, showing off his v line, and you needed to try to focus on keeping good form while you lifted your weights. You got lost in your thoughts so much that  you were startled when Nolan touched your shoulder to get your attention.
“Sorry, you were really deep in through. You okay?”
“Yeah of course. What do you need?”
“I need you to spot me,” he said
“Sure, sorry I have a lot running through my mind right now.”
“I know the feeling.” He grunted as he added weights onto the bar.
Nolan began his set while you spotted him, and you were unable to resist taking a peek at the tattoos that scattered his thighs, noticing a new one next to the winged heart. A small ghost and a tall ghost, an homage to your Halloween costumes as kids that you’d thought would be funny because neither one of you could think of anything better. He hadn’t mentioned it to you, only the ghost on the skateboard.
“Hey, when did you get the ghosts tattooed?” you asked when he set the weight down
“Um, not too long ago, I got the one on the skateboard and it felt incomplete so I got the little one too. Completely slipped my mind.” He laughs, seeming a little embarrassed
“I love it, it feels nostalgic,” you say with a smile
You headed over to where the medicine balls were and grabbed one to do some squats, and Nolan decided now was as good a time as any. You were alone, and couldn’t possibly be interrupted. So he swallowed his nerves and walked over to you.
“You’ve been such a support system for me since we were teenagers, and the tattoo reminds me of that,” he began.
“I think it’s really sweet, Patty,” you replied
“The guys have always teased me like brothers  since I joined the team and I told them about you, and how important you are to me...” he stated as you listened carefully
“And during those times they would always make fun of me for never saying this but, Y/N, I lo-” he tried to say before getting cut off by the door opening loudly revealing Coots and Jake
“Are you fucking kidding me?!” Nolan groaned under his breath, heading out of the gym without another word.
“What was that about?” Coots asked.
“Something about his tattoo?” You said, unsure, and quickly grabbed both of your stuff to catch up with Nolan.

        5.  After an injury
Going to games was a normal thing for you. Nolan made sure there was a ticket reserved in your name for every home game so you could attend. At first you were more comfortable in the stands than in the box with the wags, but eventually you would join them later on. The only time you didn’t watch a game in the box was whenever you were on a date and they had suggested you go to a game. He hadn’t minded, preferring to see you happy and not upset and that you had a good time with them. During those times, he would do anything to get your attention and show off that you were friends with a professional hockey player. You’d give him the side eye while glaring at him, occasionally telling him to stop messing around before going over to where a kid was around you and tossing them a puck.
That was one of the things he enjoyed about being a player, not only his love for the sport but also seeing kids happy. You always enjoyed watching him play but it also sometimes made you nervous seeing how accident prone he was, especially knowing he’d do anything to protect his teammates. He was a big guy, but some of the guys he went head to head with were bigger and it couldn’t end well. It made you worry that fighting could worsen his migraines and how he already had to sit out an entire season because of them. He would lie about being in pain but you could see right through him.
He had gotten his migraines under control when they happened but you always knew that something could trigger them again. You’re the first person he’d admit to being in pain to, and you’d always help him through the migraines until he felt better again. Nolan sometimes felt bad that you’d put your life on hold just so you could be with him no matter how many times he’d told you that you didn’t have to stay. It was one of the reasons why he loved you. You’d always put others before yourself and would take time out of your day to make sure that they were okay.
You were sitting in the box with Karly, talking ahead of the game, watching  Moose lead them out onto the ice for warmups before the game against the Rangers. You saw how Nolan began to skate around half the ice while shooting pucks in trying to get past Moose. Karly noticed the way you were watching Nolan, but kept her thoughts to herself, already knowing about all the interrupted confessions through TK. She knew things would fall into place for you both, at the right time.
The game was going rather smoothly against the Rangers during the first and second period, despite no one scoring but close goals happening a few times. Third period is when it started to worry you because of how you saw Nolan becoming frustrated with himself after missing a shot. It wasn’t until a couple minutes later that he was shoved into the boards head first, causing his helmet to come off. You jumped out of your seat and grabbed Karly’s hand, hoping he’d get up as his teammates skated over to him. You knew it was serious when you spotted the team medic and saw TK pick him up to get him off the ice and into the locker room.
You waited a few minutes to see whether or not he’d come back and sit on the bench but it wasn’t happening, so you got up and headed to the locker room. You were used to his injuries throughout his entire hockey career both in the NHL and in juniors but they still scared you every time and you didn’t want him to miss the rest of the season, especially if they needed to clinch a spot in playoffs.
Before you got to the locker room you ran into TK, who was coming to look for you
“Is he okay?”
“He could be worse. He won’t be able to finish the game and might miss a few more... they want him to get an MRI just in case,” Travis explained as the two of you reached closer to the door
You walked in moments later, and found Nolan reclining, clutching an  ice pack to his head over a towel. He was staring at the ceiling trying to keep himself focused and alert. He turned to look at  you, sitting up straighter and gave you a weary smile already knowing what you were going to say but nothing came out. You couldn’t say anything but returned his smile, sitting next to him on the free chair as Travis gave Nolan an encouraging nod and returned to the game.
“Hey,” he mumbled.
“Hi, how are you feeling?” you asked, brushing the stray hairs away from his face.
“I feel peachy keene,” he tried to joke, making you smile a bit as he cleared his throat.
“Hurts like a bitch,” he admits quietly
“And I broke my promise to you again.”
“It’s hockey, fights and falls happen.” You grabbed his free hand
He knew that was his chance to finally tell you seeing that no one can interrupt him this time as Travis told them to wait a while before they go in after the game before he left to get you. He took a deep breath and all the anxiety he was feeling left his body.
“Y/N, I need you to listen to me for a sec.”
“Yeah, of course, go ahead,” you replied with a concerned look on your face.
“We’ve been friends since we were in middle school. You were the new kid and I was the dorky kid that sat next to you.” he started as you smiled at the memory
“It took you a while to warm up to me since I annoyed you almost every single day trying to get you to talk and it worked. You’ve stuck by me since then. Through my horrendous mullet that you hated, whether it was my natural hair color or the bleach blond which I don’t regret by the way, even though I know you hated it, and now with my professional career. You’re always with me throughout all of my injuries and you were with me when I got drafted. Hell, you even moved to Philly with me even though I didn’t ask you too. My family loves you and considers you as another child to them. I’ve seen you at your worst and at your best, your happiest and your saddest,” he groaned at the end, having rushed through the words, making his head throb.
“I've been in love with you for the longest time and I’ll always be in love with you,” he stuttered through, throat already dry from his confession
Your silence makes him worry, and he tries to look at your face, but you smile and he relaxes.
“You’re so important to me. I never wanted to ruin our friendship by admitting my feelings…I love you too.” You say as your words made him look at the ceiling, as his cheeks flushed
“We’ve been hurting our own feelings about each other, haven’t we?” he laughed looking back over at you
“Yeah we have,” you agreed
“If I’m honest, I wanted to say I love you for the longest time without stuttering or failing and it happened” he laughed before continuing
“Can I-”
You interrupted him with a kiss, reading his mind. When you pulled away, you rested your foreheads against each other for a moment, pulling away just in time to see  around 18 men pour through the door on top of each other, looking at the two of you before quickly getting up, making you two laugh.
“Sooo?” Travis asked.
Neither of you spoke a word, holding up your intertwined hands and smiling, causing everyone to start cheering, but immediately shushing themselves when they saw Nolan wince at the loud noise.
“I'll let you get changed. I’m going to go wait with the other girls. I love you.” you said to him kissing his forehead, avoiding his cut and stroking his hair again.
“I love you too. I’m so glad I get to say that now. I’ll see you outside”

CHAPTER 2
The Golden Era Gala had been a hit in typical glorious Vegas fashion. My shows always were. Mingling afterwards between the various owners, sponsors, players and their wags (at least the ones who didn’t hate my guts for obvious reasons). Even getting surprised by celebrities who probably loved hockey more than their day job. (Jon Hamm)
More than half way through the night and I had already caught Cogs eyeing me three times. Hunger rippling throughout those icy blues even while talking with some blonde bunny at the bar. She being clearly interested, him clearly inflating his ego for the moment. It always amused me when he tried to make me jealous. The only man who could do that was currently on LTIR and hiding out in some cabin in the Canadian wilderness, supposedly “healing”.
A loud laugh behind me made me turn away from Dylan’s gaze.
“THERE SHE IS, the star of the night.”
Gary Bettman’s voice was unmistakable even in this crowded of a room. Like most of the NHL payroll (which oddly included myself now), the commissioner was tolerated.
“Enjoying yourself, Bettman?” I teased.
On either of his arms were two of my gorgeous girls. Also paid to tolerate him.
“You and Sin City spoil me, L!” He laughed again. I smiled at the fool as he made his way past me to the bar. Ben appeared by side, always there when I needed him to talk business. Still not sure how he does that.
“Make sure those girls get double tonight. Bettman is going to bore them to hell.” I said plainly.
“Already done.” Ben stated. He was looking over at Cogs who was still blatantly eye fucking me into oblivion.
“He’s on number three.” Ben added.
I took a deep sigh realizing how aggressive Dylan would become later. I was going to have plenty of marks tomorrow.
“Tell him it’s his last or no visit tonight. Give him his key, hopefully that will sober him up a bit. It’ll give him an hour. We will do the debrief in the elevator.” I said. Ben nodded and left to attend to the defenseman.
“L!” A deep male voice said next to me.
I turned to see Brayden Schenn smiling down at me with his lovely wife Kelsey next him beaming.
“Hello, newlyweds. I’m so happy you made it!” I said hugging both of them.
After a bit of small talk and catching up the Schenn’s, Brayden yelled over to group of younger players.
“NEIGHBS, over here.”
As the player he called walked over to us it was hard not to notice his eyes. There was a softness to him but something underneath his calm approachable demeanor made me blush. Though slightly shorter than Cogs, he was filling out his white dress shirt quite handsomely, accompanied with dark blue slacks. He smiled and I couldn’t help but smile back.
“L, this is Jake Neighbours. Our rookie left winger.” Schenn said. Jake extended his left hand.
“A lefty huh? Nice to meet you, Jake.” I said shaking his hand and lingering my finger as I pulled away. He smirked again.
“Nice to meet you too.” Jake said. Even his voice carried a distinguished weight for someone so young. It wasn’t until Ben came over to me that I realized I had been lost in Jake’s eyes during an awkward silence. I excused us and turned to Ben.
“One of the girls around Foley said he let slip a phone conversation with McPhee. Mr. Coghlan is in the mix for a trade. Also, he’s anxiously waiting for you by your door.” I sighed.
“Does he know?”
“He will be notified in the morning.”
“Hmmm, either way his contract with me will still stand. We will have to look into a compensation travel addendum to send to Bettman. Also, Ben, please give Mr. Neighbours an envelope. I’m intrigued with this one.”
He nodded, then pulled a gold and black envelope from inside his coat.
Turning back to the Schenn’s, I caught Jake staring at me, which made me blush again.
“My apologies, I have a previous engagement I must attend to. I do hope you enjoy the rest of your evening. Ben?” Ben then approached Jake with the envelope.
“Lady Luck smiles upon you, sir.” Ben said.
I was already heading through the crowd but I could feel the curious stare from Jake’s eyes on me as he watched me disappear from the room.

Moving from Philadelphia to Las Vegas proved to be harder than you or Nolan could have ever imagined. The city was different from Philly, where you both had lived for the better part of three– nearly four– years. On your down days or days spent without Nolan, you could drive maybe fifteen minutes to a friend’s house. Now, yours (and Nolan’s) best friends are a four hour flight away.
The trade was something Nolan wished he could say surprised him. But deep down, after the Flyers were eliminated from playoff contention and the fact he was missing from the last season, he felt dispensable. He felt useless, helpless even. You tried to remain optimistic for him, but your optimism only took him so far. You remember the heartbreak on his face when the news was broken to him, the tears streaming down his face as he called TK and Hayes to break the news to them before anyone else could. Nolan became cold, distant, and you remained patient with him. You knew how much he loved Philadelphia and its people.
When his trade was final and published for the world to see, he asked you to move across the country with him. His hands molded into yours as he stared into your eyes and asked you to come with him.
“You’re the only piece of home I can take with me… the only piece I’d want to take with me.”
You didn’t hesitate. The answer was simple: a confident, reassuring yes. You loved Nolan, the idea of being without him hurt. So you sent in your resignation, hugged your family and friends goodbye and got on the plane all the way to Las Vegas. This was your new adventure with Nolan, and your excitement outweighed the nerves. You were hopeful and so was he. As long as you had each other and that was all that mattered.
You were both trying to find your footing when you made the move to Las Vegas, hoping that your routines would sync up just like in Philly. But with Nolan spending most of his days in the T-Mobile arena and you on the search for a new job, you barely saw your boyfriend. When you come home he would be fast asleep, and when you were just waking up he was on his way out. And on days you’d expect to spend with him, new plans suddenly emerged and had Nolan running out the door. It was frustrating, to say the least. He was always leaving, bonding with his new team in the summer training camp, and even getting into boyish trouble with Brett. He took any chance he got to explore the city, failing to invite you and effectively leaving you home alone. You didn’t want to believe that he was doing it on purpose, that maybe Nolan was truly just that dumb. Dumb enough to leave his girlfriend alone in a new place, forgetting that when you agreed to move you both had promised you would do this together.
And yes, you made every effort to go out and meet new people. You even signed up on Bumble for the soul purpose of making some friends. There were some good interactions, but you can’t lie the notion of meeting someone on apps that are the likes of Tinder made you uneasy. And add to the fact, those conversations fizzled out quicker than you’d like. You were happy that Nolan was adjusting, being buddy-buddy with his new teammates, but to say you weren’t envious would be a lie. You felt stuck, sinking into metaphorical quicksand as you struggled to keep up with your boyfriend. And it didn’t help that he failed to include you.
You bent over backwards, trying to reach him but Nolan always managed to keep himself so far away. You felt like you were on standby in the new city, only there as your boyfriend’s crutch, something to keep him stable until he didn’t need you anymore. It was as if you had become dispensable. When you agreed some months ago to come to Las Vegas, you had envisioned that the both of you would take on the city together. But here you are, spending another night in while you watch your boyfriend enjoy the perks of living in Sin City without you. Anger brews in the pit of your stomach, annoyed that Nolan had yet to text you about his whereabouts and further plans, or even just as a general acknowledgement that you– his girlfriend– exist.
What time will you be home?
You sit there, the TV illuminating the dark room. Your friends are fast asleep on the east coast, and you lack them here in the city. So you sit there, alone and hurt. To say you feel exhausted is an understatement. You don’t care that he is out without you, or that this is the fourth night in a row that he’s done it. You’re frustrated by the lack of communication. You’re hurt because you did everything to make him comfortable, to make your little home just as it was in Philadelphia, and he couldn’t do it for you. Your patience is wearing thin, and you aren’t sure how long it’ll hold until you break.
The door opens quickly and slams shut. Footsteps are soft, just a little louder than the soft hum of the television. You don’t bother to look at Nolan as he steps into the living room from the foyer. Nolan jumps, surprised that you’re awake. He wasn’t expecting you to be sitting there, much less awake.
“Hey bean, why are you up so late?”
“Was waiting for you,” You mumble, “Didn’t know where you were.”
That was a lie. You knew. Thanks to Brett’s close friend’s story, you knew every club they had ventured off to. Omnia, Tao, Hakasan. They didn’t hold back tonight.
“Oh… Sorry.” He walks over, leaning down to press a kiss to your temple. You lean away from him, dodging his kiss. Nolan regains his posture, a perplexed look on his face. “Y/n?”
“Let’s just go to bed.” Your finger presses the red button on the remote, darkness engulfing the room as you shut off the television. There is a soft glow from your bedroom, and you use that to guide you through the room. Nolan watches you as you move farther from him.
He doesn’t come into the bedroom right away, the sound of glass clinking and cabinets opening and closing telling you that he is grabbing himself a drink. You didn’t bother to wait, your body and mind exhausted. The covers are soft against your skin, smelling just like your laundry detergent. Fresh, comforting. You lay there, back to the door, eyes shut as you attempt to fall asleep before your boyfriend joins you– if he joins you.
Nolan’s footsteps grow louder as he nears the bedroom, and he quietly shuts the door. He is quick to strip off his clothes, leaving himself in just underwear before he climbs into bed next to you. He slings his arm over you but you are quick to brush it off. Nolan holds himself up, weight on his elbow as he looks over at you. You still refuse to look at him.
“What’s wrong?” You don’t answer, “Hey, y/n?” He rests his palm on your shoulder, rubbing it against your arm.
That’s when you break. The gesture is supposed to be of comfort, but it only tears through the facade you put up to appear okay. One touch and you are forced
to face the fact that you aren’t okay. You finally turn over, looking over at him. “Are you tired of me?”
He looks at you, bewildered. “No, never.”
“Then why have you been pushing me away? Pretending I don’t exist.”
“That’s not true, y/n.”
“Why am I even here?” You mutter, climbing out of bed. Your skin is heating up, and you’re sure that your ears are visibly red. “Why did I even move to this city?”
“This was supposed to be a new adventure for us, bean.” Nolan moves to the edge of the bed, sitting before you as he watches you pace the bedroom.
“No Nolan, this is your adventure.”
“Y/n-“
“No! Don’t say my name like that, like you think I’m being unreasonable. I’m not. I’m so happy that life here has been working out for you, that you’ve been adjusting well. But I’m drowning here. Getting used to living here has been so hard for me, so don’t try to talk me down, or say whatever it is. I just want you to hear me and understand that I am having a hard time.”
Nolan tries to reach for your hand, to pull you back down to him at a last effort to make you feel better. But once again, you are quick to move from his grasp. He is quick to his feet, walking to you and gripping your arms to hold you in place.
“Let me hold you.”
“I don’t want you to.”
And he let’s go. You register the hurt on his face as he steps back and away from you. Tears rim his eyes, making those baby blues glossy. The tip of his nose begins to turn red, and you know it isn’t long until his ears do too.
“Y/n, I’m trying here.” Nolan’s voice is just above a whisper, tone teetering on sad and frustrated.
“You’re trying tonight, Nolan. You haven’t tried since we got here. When was the last time we spent time together, just you and me? The last time we went out on a date? The last time we had sex?” He doesn’t answer, knowing full well that you have a point. Life in Sin City had whisked him away from his duties as a boyfriend, and truth be told he never took a second to consider you in the whirlwind of it all. You take his silence as a sign to continue, “I know that you’re busy. I know how important your work is for you, and I would never take that away from you. But I’m not asking for much, just a minute of your time. What’s changed? This was so easy back in Philly, so why is being together here so hard?”
The silence in the room is thick. Nolan makes his way back to bed, sitting at the edge and looking right up at you. “I don’t know what you want from me, y/n.”
His answer makes your blood boil. You scoff, “You know, these past three or so months, I’ve tried every way to reach you. I did my best to make Vegas feel like even an ounce of what Philly was, even if it is just in this stupid apartment.” Your heart was beating out of your chest, “And I do all that to be forgotten, cast to the side.”
“I’m not trying to leave you alone, and I haven’t forgotten that you’re here. But I’ve been busy, y/n.” He rubs his face with his hand, pushing his brown hair away from his face. “The season is about to start.”
“Yeah, and then it’s less and less of you for the next 6, maybe more months.” Your fingers take through your hair, pushing it away from your face, “I’m so fucking tired, Nol. Tired of being a placeholder in your life, tired of waiting until you find convenience in me being your girlfriend.”
“So what do you want me to do, hold your hand throughout all this? To be at your beckoning, anytime and anywhere? To just always be available whenever you need me?” Nolan’s voice grows loud with frustration, fingers angrily pushing his hair back.
“Well that’s what I’ve been doing for you, haven’t I?”
There it is, the deafening silence once again blanketing over the room. You both just stare at each other, afraid that the next words to tumble out of either of your mouths would be something regrettable. Some time between all of this, tears managed to spill over and wet your cheeks. Your heart aches as you look at Nolan, who sits at a distance because this time, you pushed him there.
“You asked what I want from you…” Your voice shakes, “well maybe I want a thank you. I want to feel appreciated. Maybe I want to know that my boyfriend still wants me here and that moving was not a complete mistake!”
“So then maybe you should go back.”
Nolan’s words slice through your heart, straight through your gut. He watches you, unaware of just how brutal his words are. He watches as every emotion contorts on your face, the tears spilling faster than before. He watches as the simple sentence breaks you right before his very eyes. You choke out sobs, looking away from the man in front. Your relationship was at a standstill, egos too high for compromise. He would never concede, admit that maybe he had left you to your own devices. To admit that you were right, that maybe he really is moving too fast through life and he’s forgotten all about you.
“Is that what you want?” Your voice quivers, eyes hesitant to stare into his own. “Do you not want me here?”
“Of course I want you here, but I don’t know what else I can do for you, y/n. This… all this is my life now. And I’m sorry that you feel left out, forgotten, I wasn’t purposely trying to make you feel that way. If there’s anything to take away from this, it’s that I didn’t mean to make you feel like you were cast to the side.”
There isn’t anything else to say. What could you say? All you could really do is fall apart, so that’s what you do. You crawl back into Nolan’s arms, allowing him to wrap them around you as you break. You cry into his shoulder, squeezing him tight as if it were the last time.
“Maybe this city isn’t made for you and I.” Nolan mumbles into your hair, his large palm flattening your hair, “Maybe the change was too much for us. Maybe we jumped in it too quickly, got way in over our heads. All I know is now, I want you to be happy. And maybe being here with me isn’t it anymore.” His hold on the back of your head is firm as he kisses your temple before moving you off of him. “I’ll sleep on the couch tonight.”
You watch as he stands, grabbing a pillow and another blanket for himself. He doesn’t look back at you, doesn’t say another word. You wait until he is just as at the doorway of your bedroom to finally ask a question you didn’t want to ask. “So is this it for us, Nolan?”
He stops, back still to you. You watch as Nolan’s shoulders shake with each breath he takes. Once again, he turns and looks at you with his pretty blue eyes, this time holding so much sadness and hurt. “This is it.”
He doesn’t say anything else and walks out of the room. There aren’t any words to describe the sadness slivering through your bloodstream. This wasn’t how either of you picturing the night ending. You would’ve never thought that this was it for you and Nolan. In a blink of an eye, you’ve become a piece of home he no longer needs. Sobs shake through your body as you walk up to the window, looking out into the city that you hate oh so much.
God, you think to yourself, it’s brutal out here.

Nolan woke up to the unsettling feeling of your empty side of the bed.
It was the fourth day of training camp and now that he’s back full time, you figured it’d be best to make him breakfast everyday just like you always did before he needed to take time off the ice. For most part, he was getting better and that only made you want to take good care of him more.
Even if it meant having to wake up before the sun rays hit your bedroom window.
Nolan rubbed the sleep off his eyes as he went downstairs wearing only his boxers on. His hair was still all messy and tousled from his deep sleep but he didn’t mind. What he did mind, however, was how your waist moved along the serene rhythm of your morning playlist, just as his gaze tread onto his sweatshirt you were wearing; its hem resting just above your hips before his sight finally gets absorbed by your ass indecently covered by the sheer material of your pink laces as if to forfeit the sole purpose of wearing any undergarment at all.
Nonetheless, it did wonders for him.
You were too preoccupied with fixing your boyfriend an extra packed ham and cheese sandwich (for you knew how he tends to snack in his car), ala Nolan Patrick, when you felt a set of familiar strong hands graze on your hips, lightly pushing the hem of his sweatshirt just so he could get a better view of your behind.
“So beautiful.” He voices, husk and heavy as he kisses the sensitive skin at the back of your ear.
“Morning.” You tilt your head a little to the side so as to give him enough space to bury his still groggy self in the crook of your neck, his steady breathing sending shivers up your spine, causing you to immediately forget your morning task.
“I made breakfast.” You tell him. A remark that was later on acknowledged by a small peck placed endearingly on your exposed skin.
“What’d you make me, hm?” He hums, still quite fond of nibbling his nose on your neck, maintaining to leave the same kisses he’s been giving you.
You can’t help but smile and take your hand to softly pat the side of his cheek when he lifted his head up. “The usual, this sandwich, and your green juice for the road.”
Nolan didn’t bother to answer and was instead hooked on brushing his lips on your neck, placing idle and faint bruises while he’s at it.
You needed to take the cheese placed across the kitchen island, ergo having to bend over, clueless that such movement would wake the already heated man standing behind you.
Nolan was quick to cage your hips in his grasp. Evidently coaxing you just as you feel him on your back. Thick, and very much aroused.
He wasn’t much of a talker, not that he needed to say a word. Nevertheless, you try to suppress a grin for you already know what’s about to happen next.
The shuffling sound of Nolan’s boxer shorts was what you heard in an instant. His dominant hand squeezed onto your ass, preventing himself from ripping your panties off. He did it once when you wore that fresh black Fenty you’ve pre-ordered and let’s just say he’s learned his lesson not to fuck with any of your lingeries.
You didn’t mind him and instead let him get busy with his stuff just like you were with preparing his food. Not long after, the fabric that was once covering your bottom, slides off with ease as Nolan lets it fall onto the floor, resting just atop your feet next to his already discarded undergarment.
You feel Nolan’s head poking against your skin whilst he takes time spitting on his hand before gliding his fingers down your slit in order to ease your walls as you take him. You let out a sudden moan at the contact, his fingers enough to awaken all your senses.
“Already wet for me, eh?” Nolan steadily stands behind you, anchoring his veiny length upon your entrance. Once he’s set, he holds your hips with his hand, the other supporting his cock as he finally pushes into you, feeling your walls tighten around his member upon contact, your warmth sending him to overdrive in seconds.
A muffled groan escapes from his lips as he furthers himself through you. The strokes he makes starting off at a slow and gradual pace, the firmness of his grip on your wrist growing all the more stiff. Nolan breathes heavily next to your ear, both your bodies undeniably close, basking in each other’s warmth and eagerness to get off.
As Nolan sought his pleasures in the comfort of heating up the kitchen with you, you start wrapping up the sandwiches you’ve made and snuck them inside two designated zip locks. “Fuck.” You whimper when he hits the spot, jolting bolts of electricity you didn’t know your body could process. Nolan finds your hair and starts gathering it in his fist, “Clear the counter.” he orders, this time, his voice almost turning into a growl because of the heavy grunts he tries so hard to stifle.
You quickly oblige and carefully sweep the materials you’ve used in one swift motion. Once Nolan sees he has enough room, he pushes you down the cold marbled surface of the island, beginning to pick up at a speed that ought to make you wail from underneath him.
“Nolan,” You pant at the pleasure he was giving you. You feel his wholeness hit your core, slamming on your walls like it wasn’t seven in the morning. You don’t hear a word from him. Instead, his hand trails down onto your shoulder, gripping on your skin just as his other retained its position on your hips, his fingers digging through you whilst his thrusts deepens the closer he feels to reaching his high.
“You’re a good girl, aren’t you?” He breathes the word out, leaning over, lips touching the back of your ear as he starts nibbling on it.
The walls of your home were filled with your wails and endless moans as you begin to feel the build up forming in your middle. Nolan kept thrusting in you, evidently fond of hearing you scream his name so early in the morning.
Your legs begin to wobble, almost failing to support yourself at the amount of pleasure coursing through you at once. You grip onto the counter just as one whole stroke from Nolan reasoned your breaking point, elating your body with the same indescribable ecstasy you have always craved in more ways than one when you’re with him.
Nolan felt his own too, following how your walls sucked the life out of him. He quickly pulled his shaft out, taking it in his hand as he took the remaining clothing covering your body just above your waist before he starts jerking off on your back, moments after he’s made you cum.
Not long after, Nolan’s robust groans filled the room, signaling the hot liquid he squeezed out on your back. He then presses himself on your skin, ensuring that he gets it all out, letting most of it drip down to your ass.
Once he’s got himself covered, a yelp escapes your lips when his cold hard palm comes in contact with one of your cheeks. He gives it a firm grip, fairly fond of the art he’s graced your body with.
With a smug smirk now apparent on his lips, Nolan gives you a quick peck before whispering in your ear, “I’ll go get the water running.”
