So, to celebrate 100 followers on tumblr, I decided to draw some fanart for people. This community is so sweet. Every one of these artists has inspired me in some way.

I'm really sorry for those I haven't made art for. I may make a part 2 one day for those I missed. Who knows.

This was a really nice way to try out different art styles while mixing them with my own.

I was inspired by 2 of your pieces for this, the main one being the 3rd image for this post. The lambs dress is so pretty, I just knew I wanted to draw it flowy and dancing, and the second image I used is this post for the rendering style.

Rock god yuri. What more can I say these are really good designs. Showed them to my friend, and they loved them.

Decided to have them dueting, while Narinder can't sing lamb can always pick up that role.

Messy (but progressively getting better) design notes:

Epel was one of those designs that just clicked instantly with me, I had a vision of the basics I wanted all sorted in my head even before I gathered most reference pics. I don't expect this to happen again to a majority of the remaining cast though 😫

Watching those doll restoration/repainting videos while drawing helped me set the general mood I wanted for him, even though the final result doesn't show much of this inspiration, at least in my opinion... I love the makeup and face painting details these artists put on the dolls, but I was afraid too much of that would make his design too heavy-looking combined with the rest of the outfit. If I ever decide to design alternative outfits for this series, I'll try to show off more of this lost aspect there

For the character in itself now, I imagine him in this AU to be more free to do and act however he wants compared to his og universe counterpart. Still being supervised by Vil, but not in the same level as before. Probably the reason why he got all those scratches and cracks on his body, I like to think he's having a little more fun with being a gremlin and running around all he wants lol. And due to that, his skin care routine baisically consists in Elmer's glue, to stick any broken porcelain shards together. Vil is not exactly content about that, but he lets most of it slide at this point 👍

Epel's totally the type of kid who goes around the gardens to casually collect bugs like he's in animal crossing. Like this video I found on reels, which I don't reccomend watching if you have a phobia of spiders/insects/bugs/snakes/frogs/etc cause, you know. But anyway I think MH Epel holds this exact energy and it's- kinda terrifying! In a good way though. come on let this kid be a kid for once. I also think this more playful part of him fits well with the fact that he's a little doll. OH and the fact that og Epel grew up around the elderly back in his hometown kinda makes sense in this universe too, like, he's the type of doll some grandparents would keep in their old house as a family relic or something. Could very much be the beggining of a horror story.

I don't remember too much for the middle one that is slightly dimmer. Though I do remember that was the kind of IDEA behind her. She's also holding a knife cause of course. Why have magical powers to kill people when you can harness the power of K N I F E 7/10

I remember a little more about the jester marinette in the back. She had a whole thing with medieval research, jester research, and she also wanted to stab Lila cause everyone wanted to stab lila at the time. 9/10 cause I had a fun time with her

It was a cool idea and I always love when creators take inspiration from how similar Marinette's name is to another word for a kind of puppet "Marionette"

But before I forget, I'll end this post on one of my akumanette's that I tried to squeeze in but never got to. But I did make more art for and I remember the story!

I remember having a background planned but I never really got around to it. Basically the story was that marinette got akumatized but managed to take off her earrings in time. I think the reason for her akumatization was connected to figuring out the secrets that Emilie had been hiding with the peacock miraculous (BEFORE we knew that adrien was a sentimonster).

Tikki had to bring the earrings to Chat Noir and he had to find someone that looked ENOUGH like Ladybug that Hawkmoth wouldn't notice as much that Ladybug wasn't actually there. Enter Mireille cause at the time a few people were pointing out how similar she looked to the dupain chengs.

Akumanette's powers had something to do with casting depression? I think? In the form of dragons? Oh, Also she travels by walking on the dragons so thats cool

I don't remember everything but I did have a lot planned for her.

our chapters average at 27,000 words, the total fic length is already 3x the average novel length, and we lost one of the authors working on this fic. it must be so nice to only have to endure the wait for a chapter to be uploaded so that you can interact with it rather than being the one to actually write it.

im going to be cruel (no pun intended) to be kind: this is such an intense externalisation of blame. you are the ones in control of the fic length; the chapters could handle some heavy editing and it wouldnt make them any less wonderful (such as regarding the descriptions of mike and will's internal thoughts, not the action between the characters themselves). fic is free and its a gift to be able to read works that inspire our hearts and minds while we wait for the show, but then again, when at the stern of a juggernaut work such as this, one that will inevitably have many followers chomping at the bit on tumblr as well as ao3 (as you designed it to have!), you surely must be aware of something that only usually exists in professional marketing spaces involving customers + brand IP: the relationship between consumer and creator, and what they can give each other.

not 'owe each other' - nothing is owed, except perhaps basic human kindness. fans want your work, and its free, so we should be grateful; likewise, you want readers, feedback and clicks, and that should be free, too. but in order for this to work smoothly, there has to be fair give and take. i mean, if you wanted to monetize the fic i'm sure many people would pay to read it, but thats beside the point here.

what fans of this fic simply want is the same honesty and self-awareness from you that they might expect from any artist who has embarked on such am ambitious project. and this doesnt just mean transparency about potential uploading dates (which is already much appreciated by the majority!), or notifications about how hard it is to balance work and life (something most people on the planet struggle with). it means total honesty and hard answers. people like to know where they stand. plenty of writers (both professional and fan alike) abandon works for months, years at a time, and if the work is THAT good, people will always be thrilled to see a return. it's the mucking people about that is what destroys relationships - no matter how good your reasons are.

your fic is wonderful and very, very memorable. you could take a big, undefined hiatus and people would, im sure, return, including me. seeing you admit that you have been prioritizing this fic over your mental health does not inspire confidence either, or even comfort - do i want to read something that has caused the creator such harm?

i think everything about this process would be happier for everyone if you set boundaries that work for you and didn't place blame elsewhere. after all, as you said, it's just a fanfic. it doesnt matter if you don't finish it. it doesnt matter if it takes all the way to s5 for 10.2 to release. everyone would, though, appreciate you taking a stance and being consistent (and therefore fair) to both yourselves and the readers.

please feel free to not post this publicly or do as you wish with it.

hello! thank you for your feedback and for sharing it in a way that is both kind and respectful. you make many valid points that i agree with -- we are in control of the word counts and could stand to edit down more, and we do recognize where being transparent about the reasons behind the chapter delays might not inspire confidence or comfort. i do, however, think that isolating one response/chain of responses to a particular ask is a little unfair, so i'd like to provide additional context.

i do not think that it's fair to say that we haven't been honest, self-aware, or fair, because we have been incredibly transparent throughout the entire run of the fic (over a year) about our writing process. just last month suni said she hadn't been working on 10.2 at all because abby had been visiting her house, and readily took ownership of that fact. there was a 4-month wait between chapters 9.1 and 9.2, and i was very open about the fact that i simply needed a break for at least the first of those months because i didn't want to write it. we have continued to maintain several times that we are not abandoning the fic, even if it takes longer between chapters, and have tried to stay as active as possible on the blog because we know that seeing us interact with asks Does inspire confidence. if you just scroll down and see how we have answered other asks inquiring about the upload, we responded kindly and respectfully.

what you interpreted as externalization of blame in that one (1!) ask response was me trying to provide perspective to someone who clearly lacked it. we understand that people will be frustrated about chapter delays, especially if we keep pushing them back, and this is also something that we have received feedback about before and tried to implement; however, it is also a double-edged sword where if we don't give an estimated upload, people get upset, or we give an estimated upload that we think is completely reasonable for us to achieve and then hurdles get in the way, whether it's writer's block or work or time with friends. i absolutely get the frustration on the receiving end, but something i have learned from being in this fandom for two years is that a pretty big majority of those who are interacting with fanworks are not creating it themselves, hence why my response -- while snippy and annoyed, because i was matching the energy, and will not apologize for that -- was contextualizing the whys behind the chapter delay: the chapters are long, the fic is long, we are down one entire body from where we started. the intention was not to shuck blame off of ourselves, but i get that intentions don't always translate into effect, so it's understandable that it was received differently.

we don't always respond to things perfectly. when we have a million and one asks inquiring about the next upload, one stray one that comes off the wrong way is likely going to set us off, because we are people, and this is not a job. we have set a boundary by disabling anon, and again, i cannot stress enough how much i appreciate that you've come to us with this feedback off-anon and with respect and decency. i get where you are coming from and again, agree with a lot of your points.

the only other thing i want to make clear is that this fic, no matter how much attention its garnered, should not be treated as a creator/consumer relationship that mirrors anything where the exchange of money is involved. not only is it unfair to apply this standard to fanworks, where it is illegal to monetize such content, but the entire purpose of fanworks is to celebrate what you are a fan of together. when you apply expectations on either end -- i am a fan of this work, therefore, people should create timely content for it; i am creating this fanwork, therefore, people should interact with it -- defeats the entire nature of fan-created work as a whole. while we have continued to be vocally grateful for the love and support our fic has been shown, we both maintain that we would continue writing and continue uploading even if we were getting less than half of the amount of interaction that we do. it's nice to have interaction, but not necessary, because we what write and post is done because we love it, and it's shared so that we can look back on it, so our friends can enjoy it, and anyone else who might want to. we are, of course, excited to share that world with anyone who cares -- we created the blog and the promo because we wanted to share it -- but that does not mean that the relationship between us and our readers should have expectations. we are all creating and enjoying this work for free for the sake of love for the characters, as the star trek obsessed housewives of the 60s (and the law) have intended.

Hello my little stars! How are you?

I mentioned in the last post in the series that I would be traveling for a week or two and that's why I wouldn't be working. Well I'm still traveling Lmao.

It's been a lot of fun, I'm visiting my Prince Charming and family, both of whom I haven't been to in a long time. Still, I couldn't stop thinking about KoW and Wish's Concept Arts. Disney sealed the fate of its fan artists by discarding so much good material, now they are embedded in our minds and we will not be able to rest until we see them realized. This is crazy but it's beautiful to see how much these discarded concepts generated creative potential in the fandom.

Because of all this I couldn't help but make some small sketches! And well, I came to show them here. They are not sketches of Comic panels, but they have something to do with it and I will show the photos and explain how.

This first one, very faded, are Magnificent and Amable's clothes (designed by @uva124, for the characters in @annymation's rewrite of Wish "The Kingdom of Wishes"). The drawings that Aled did are very complex, I don't judge her for that, in fact I thank her, she gave beautiful clothes to the centuries-old Disney villains and they are perfect. I really wish I could draw them with all the details, but I will do everything by hand, alone and seeking a minimally professional quality (I want to be a comic artist/book illustrator one day. This comic is my first step Lmao, and I want to do something that conveys the best I can give at the moment), so I need to make some things easier for myself. The costumes are one of those things.

" Better something simple and well done than complex and poorly done." — This is my motto for this Comic and for my life.

The next sketches are related to aesthetics. I've been watching a lot of "Analyzing the Art" videos of some Disney films and I was inspired to adopt some "Disney Style" features in my arts for this comic (not everything obviously, because I don't want to be sued by Disney lmao).

What you'll see next is me trying to mix this influence with my own style in some KoW character sketches.

Speaking of aesthetics. Anny received Chiara's aesthetic from someone — the north star, "daughter of Aster", created by his magic at the very end of Anny's fanfic. This Aesthetic inspired me to create an aesthetic for Asha and Aster too and these were the results:

This moodboard is helping me with the artistic direction of colors, style and is a visual motivation to stay active at work.

This is kind of a wild thing to admit, but when my best friend and I were kids (like 12-13), we had an entire MHA RP and we used a lot of OCs we found randomly online. Obviously we grew out of that pretty fast, and as an adult now I look back on it with a little bit of guilt cause ya know, they were other people’s characters and I don’t think we understood why that was a weird thing to do at that age?

Anyway, long story short, Inori was one of the characters we used the most and I had honestly completely forgotten that I just saw him while browsing google one day and I loved his design, so I used him. I haven’t even thought about that RP in several years, but I thought you might get a kick out of knowing that Inori has been happily living on my Tomodachi Life island for AGES now. He’s one of the first Miis I added and he’s actually married to another person’s MHA OC (who we wrote as his love interest in the RP back in the day too 😅) He’s one of my favorites on there, and it didn’t strike me until today how his original artist had no idea about any of this!

I just thought you might laugh a little about it! I really hope that doesn’t upset or offend you in any way 😅 If it does, I genuinely do apologize. It’s not something I would ever do now, obviously!

TLDR: Inori is alive and well in my Tomodachi Life and my best friend and I really loved your art as kids :)

Genuinely feeling a mixed of things about this, so I waited to sleep on it before responding. And the lasting thought I had the past couple of days since getting this ask was "Oh yeah, been there, done that."

In my early internet RPing days, I too was just a kid that took random pics online willy-nilly bc I thought it no harm to do so, especially for something silly as a random rp online. Obviously, like u & ur friends, I realized later on how bad it was to just take someone else's character and make it your own, w/o consent from the original artist-- especially as an artist myself.

The overall thing I'm willing to say on this is that I'm glad you guys loved my art (and Inori especially apparently!! 😂). I can probably assume you guys weren't being malicious about it, and if someone had ever pointed it out back then, u probably would have stopped. 😅 But what's done is done, and I did get a laugh at Inori living in ur Tomodachi Life.

Edd (CREW • PROP/SET DESIGN)

Looking for a little extra cash one day Edd comes across a TV ad about a few spots open in the theater for an upcoming , unnamed production. Naturally his friends sat close by also watching. Together they decided they'd go in, try their hand at it and once the show was over put together all the money they got and split it equally. Edd easily got into props and set design because Bing knew he was an artist and for a director he's fairly lazy when it comes to assigning jobs and roles. Edd doesn't really struggle all too much with props and sets due to his prior painting experience. But the behind the stage activities and chaos get to him a bit. Needless to say he's just a inch more tired than his usual self

Matt (ACTOR • UNDERSTUDY)

Matt got assigned as an understudy for the lead role which he was pretty bummed out about at first! But as time went on the lead had fallen ill. Matt was the temporary lead! Good for him. Bing didn't really think about the repercussions of having Matt as an understudy for the lead but it's already pretty far in the show to change things around in Bing's eyes. He's just a bit stuck up... stuck up enough to make everything about himself and to be fair his, his well everything skills are a bit subpar. But not many people are signing up for this production he'll do!

Tom (BACKGROUND CHARACTER • AUDIO)

You would think Tom would just take one job but unfortunately just a week prior to this his guitar Susan had fallen apart (wow so unexpected amiright--.) In order to make enough money to fix her Tom had taken a background role. Should be easy, he has to say only one line! Well Tom doesn't know this yet but uhm! He has horrible stage fright, he freezes the instant he's made to act and this is just one miniscule line before he can just go back up to the sound stage and get that done but this one line stumps him. Will he be able to act by the end of pre-production??

Tord (LIGHTING)

Tord took lighting because it was there. Bing didn't care just as much as Tord and he could use a few dollars. Though he's the only one who openly finds it a bit weird that Bing is making a play that isn't even titled... and seemingly has little to no plot aside from a few things pulled from other movie scripts of Bing's past. He slacks off a lot and spends most of his time doing odd tasks and just floating around (occasionally causing mischief) (ok what am I saying he has purposely made stage lights fall on people before). He doesn't really like that the sound studio is right in the same room as the lighting booth. This will be fun.

Now that all the fun stuff is out of the way let's glance over at the rules and regulations!

Dimension Dyfenders Update!! (9/20/23)

HEY, HEY, it's September! You know what that means! (read the above)

Hello D.D fandom, hello followers, mutuals, friends and hello people who curiously stumbled upon this post. You all know who i am, but for those who don't, let me introduce myself. My name's Comet. I'm the co-creator and main artist in the indie webcomic series Dimension Dyfenders! As of right now, i'm attending art school and trying my best to work more on the webcomic while also attending on my studies and get better grades. Now, you might ask, "Comet, what's going on with this series now?", "Why haven't been there more pocket adventures minisode 1 parts lately?" Well, i got the answers right here! First of all, let's start with the most obvious one... The Pocket Adventures situation.

Now, Pocket Adventures hasnt been online as of late, no next parts were being published, and im very sorry for that. The cause for it is the loss of motivation i had, which made me not work on it for a long while. Even when making new panels i feel extremely tired. Feeling like i should do something else (heck, i feel insecure about its panels when i draw them!) But fret not, that doesn't mean Pocket Adventures is getting cancelled. We still have loads of plans on the table and we can't wait to roll them out. But for now, we're taking a break due to IRL situations for example, art school. We, the team, have lives outside of making d.d content. We need to get our degrees and, well, try to survive life. But no worries, because I got plans to get back on D.D P.A Minisode 1 and finish it completely once winter break hits. As long as my motivation gets out of its hibernation phase. But still, i can't wait for you all to see the conclusion to minisode 1. (I just hope you dont mind if i jump right into the 'new designs' in the next pages)

Speaking of minisodes, I've been thinking of releasing minisodes only once a year than every saturday. Though this decision is not final yet. I don't want clout, in fact, i just wanna do what I love. Create stories and comics for everybody to enjoy. But if you guys would love for a minisode to release once a year or once in 3 months, let me know your opinions! Your criticism helps this series, especially its production, grow better!

Now, for the second and final question you may have asked… Thing is, Nothing has changed! But well, if you know me on my social media for my recent Crash Bandicoot fanart, then you might notice that Crash 4: It's About Time, especially it's artbook (and concept art by Nicola Saviori)... Has affected my artstyle, DRASTICALLY. So. The characters, of course, have went through some changes. I'd like to call this new artstyle... "The TFB Effect". As a matter of fact, Dimension Dyfenders (both its miniseries and full series) is going to have a brand new, more cartoony, zanier than ever artstyle! Don't believe me? See for yourselves. Starting with the main ones!

I decided to add a little bit of the good ol' Squash and Stretch to the characters to make them stand out more in the next comics. So of course, some of the colors have changed, especially designs and bodytypes. Oh, and not just that, our heroes have some new stuff, too! For example: Knockout's Dyfender Element is now refered as "Quantum Strenght", Paintdrop's is called "Cosmic Creativity" and Speedrunner's is called "Light Speed". Neat upgrades, eh? (Still, criticism is accepted.) Anyway, notice that in the first picture above there's something that says: "Dyfender Mode", right? Well, if you see that, that's because we are introducing something brand new to our heroes. Called: Omni-modes.

Now, "what are Omni-modes?", you may ask? Well, Omni-modes are modes that are set on the Dyfenders' Dy-watches, you may see that the Omni-Modes are, of course, the Dyfenders' alternate hero forms, to help them take on a mission in a different, more suitable form. When the day needs to be saved during night time (and rarely past bedtime), they activate Night Mode. For sunny beach days but still wanting to make sure nobody figures out their secret identities, Acqua Mode will be at their service. There are tons of different Omni-Modes to be shown (Especially, Pride mode, which was shown on this year's pride post.) So, yeah. Omni-modes will be shown in both the miniseries AND the full series!

Oh! And refering to characters, we can't forget about our main bad guys! Oh, you know, the Dajo-Crew? They got a bit of a make over to fit to the current artstyle! (ft. the updated height chart):

Now that we got that out of the way. let's just head over what will the future of the series look like as of right now. Starting off with the full series and pocket adventures. As said before, Dimension Dyfenders' artstyle changed. But that doesn't mean everything changed, things may be different (the more cartoony artstyle and the sillier tone), but nothing about the series has changed! And that means..

MORE POCKET ADVENTURES IS HAPPENING, THAT'S RIGHT! MORE D.D CONTENT COMING THIS WAY!

As for right now, D.D Minisode 1 may still be in development as we speak, but one thing that's completed right now is the script! Now that its finally finished, all thats left, is the panel and comic page-making (hopefully you wont mind the sudden character design changes, though.)! But in the meantime! We got some sneak peaks for not just one of the panels from the next minisode 1 pages, but also a never-seen before panel from the next minisodes of pocket adventures! (notice: some of these are not final and may change in the final product.)

That's not all! this franchise has got some new stuff coming in during it's run. We got so many plans, but this is the only thing we can show about said plans:

As you can see, you're gonna see some new characters in pocket adventures. While in the full series, you'll get some new characters too. Except... New baddies will be only in the full series, while in the miniseries then later in the animated series... You'll get to meet some new allies! So, keep your eyes peeled for them! And we hope you like them as much as we do.

Now, D.D has never shown a sign of stopping, even during hiatuses, so im happy to announce that more Pocket Adventures will be on their way after Minisode 1 has completed production! We're thinking of putting the upload dates on hold (which means, minisode 2 is delayed until further notice, sorry guys.). So please be patient when waiting for new minisodes.

And speaking of patience... I think I got a little something to keep you guys busy with while you wait... Introducing…

DIMENSION DYFENDERS TOONIES!

Now, you may be wondering: "What is THIS?" D.D.T (Dimension Dyfenders Toonies for long), is a brand new miniseries of comic strips that comes out during the weekends. (Starting in October, the end of september, or during the holiday season! No promises, though.) It's a little something i can make up while you guys wait for the next Pocket Adventures Minisodes. Oh yeah, here's one of the cover for it, too! It's not much, but i know you guys would go NUTS for it:

This will be about how the Dyfenders handle their superhero and school lives in everyday situations. (No worries, the action isn't gone. There might be some strips about school, but there will be more strips about their superhero lives, guarantee!). It's also about what The Dajo-Crew does when they aren't invading dimensions, get into some shenanigans at the castle and also when they plot evil schemes. some strips will be either original with a new short story or a recreation of old strips from phase 1 (not a final decision of course, but you can tell us if you like this idea)! One thing to point out is that some of the strips might take place before some minisodes, now thats another thing to notice, right? And that's the only "spoiler" I can give. So, sorry, no more! OH! And for any of you voice actors reading this who are like: "Wow, i wonder when this series will get a comic dub / animated series. If i'm lucky enough i might be able to voice act for it!" … Boy, do we have a treat for you all. Which will be posted in a few hours. both on bird app, bluesky, insta and on here!  The only thing I have to announce is that during the d.d stuff's production and during art school, i'm not gonna be online on social media. (until during normal/long weekends and festive days.), but no worries, the series is still alive and kicking, even when there aren't posts about it for a few months! Though, in some days, i'll be able to make and share some art for it! You're all in for a wild ride for these months and for 2024! Oh, and about Dajo's account. I'm planning to bring it back. But, Dajo is currently busy conquering Dimensions, but I can assure he hasn't abandoned Sinstagram completely. You'll see more of his influencer side, too. Songbird's Voyage

Those of you following me over on YouTube or Twitter may have noticed a new character appearing as the face of my most recent song. I didn't have all the details worked out yet so I wanted to hold off on going too in depth about them, but I am happy to say that I finally have some more info ready to share with you all!

First of all, I would like to once again thank @aziebites for designing this character for me to use, it did an amazing job. Originally, the character was meant to just be for the one song, but Azie did such an amazing job that it inspired me to elaborate on the character and their story.

What is this project?

Well, after my last album, I wanted to go back to my roots and try to come up with a concept album. However, that's going to take a LOT longer than a normal album of mine would, and I don't want to just stop releasing music in the meantime. As such, this new project is going to be released episodically with each song acting as a fraction of the total story. Then, all the songs will be compiled into an album for streaming after they've all released on YouTube.

The reason for this is to allow me to take my time with the project and deliver a level of quality beyond what I normally would, forcing myself to make sure every song can stand on it's own. But even beyond that, it allows me to still release individual songs without having to also be working on an album at the same time. I do all of this in addition to my day job, so it can be a lot of energy to try to make so much all the time.

The reason I chose to release it like this goes beyond just logistics, too. Those of you who have been following me for a while know I hold a special place in my heart for cartoons and the culture surrounding the early 2000s. As such, I like to think of this staggered release schedule as similar to waiting for a new episode of your favorite show to come out.

Who is Songbird?

I won't share too much as a lot of Songbird's journey is abstract and the beginning of their story is suppose to be a mystery, but I'll share this blurb from the album description: "As we know it, existence is composed of different lands that sort of float in an endless void that we call Nothingness. Because of this isolation, each land has grown and evolved in very different ways. You know others solely like us, but we have friends from all kinds of different lands. Like Marina in the land of water spirits, or the old innkeeper at the edge of time.

So now, you wonder how we get to the other lands, right? Well that's where the River Dragons come in. The rivers that run through each land are so strong, they cut right through the Nothingness. People like you and I are too weak to swim through the rivers, as they would simply toss us into the void. But the dragons' scales protect them from the water, and if you are kind like them, they let you ride on their backs and take you to other lands."

When can I expect the next song?

That's the fun part; you can't!

Joking aside, I do have an outline of how to story will go, but actually getting each song written and produced for something of this caliber is going to take time, and I can't predict how long will be between each installment. Additionally, I want to try to get art made for each song which will take time for the artists as well. Luckily, I have a reliable circle of people now who I know I can go to for the art, so it's just a matter of money really.

However, if you do want to try to help speed things up, I have a few options. I recently paused my Patreon after a series of events that left me unable to keep up with it, but I will be resuming that sometime soon. I also have a Ko-Fi where you can donate if you want. Did you check out the first issue of the new Ultimate Spider-Man? I'd be curious to see your thoughts

I was planning on letting it pass by me, zen-like. I kind of... disapprove of the entire concept. The more redundant universes Marvel creates (note that I say redundant, in that I like some AUs with recognizably different heroes and story lines) the more it approaches a DC-like level of story fragmentation, where nothing has to matter and everything runs on vibes. Every new restart survives an even shorter amount of time. It's a death spiral.

But alright. I may not know who Hickman is but some other people seem to like him. I'm Charlie Brown, the new title is a football, here's some of the whistling my foot makes as it flies through the air.

First off a disclaimer: comics are into longform storytelling these days, so almost nothing happens in this issue by design. This is a setup, not a story. I can point out some pettier dislikes, but I can't know what might turn out well yet.

I get that this is going to tie in to the Maker, but calling this USM is a bogus decision that is going to cause so much confusion down the line. It's like they didn't want to admit they were setting up yet a third story. See above grouch about redundant universes.

Uncle Ben being alive instead of Aunt May is a hell of a decision. But I like Hell Of A Decisions if they're pulled off with confidence. I miss og USM's ponytailed gentle old hippie Uncle Ben, I admit. He had a surprising amount of characterization, which I always liked about that series.

I... do not get... why they are homewrecking Robbie + JJJ for Ben. Like, I'm kind of offended on Robbie's behalf. og USM already put some of Robbie's plotlines into Ben--I mean, Ben Urich's hands, but this is more based on 616, isn't it? Robertson's personal moral compass and how that interacts with his job and his safety and his journalistic ethics AND his relationship with Jameson's short-sighted tendencies have been the core of his character for 60 years. Could we not think of something new for Uncle Ben to be doing instead of overwriting an existing character relationship and adding next to nothing to it? And Robbie's there and just kind of fine with the Kingpin's proposal as far as we see so far. This is probably my biggest complaint.

The kids could be an interesting element, but we don't really see any of that yet so it's purely potential.

The Harry fans seem to like this new Harold and his visual design so far. I suppose he's not fully flavorless but the flavor that is there is like. Salt and pepper.

MJ could stand to look older and have more characterization but that is not an original observation. Wait, she's definitely based off her 616 self and not her USM self isn't she? God why DID they call this USM, this is a structural publishing nightmare

The Goblin design is what people think the Raimi goblin costume was, which is not exactly a compliment. Also I *know* I'm the Goblin Fan but are there, really no other villains you could think of to open with? No? Is this the only plot point that's ever going to get adapted over and over again? Maybe it will be good and I'll be glad, I think! And then imagine Charlie Brown and the football again.

Another thing that really got me was the churning camera angles on some of the simplest scenes here. I respect the dutch angle hustle, Chechetto, but if I'm feeling seasick while trying to follow a scene where people have a conversation while sitting down then you might want to rethink your strategy.

To misquote Roger Ebert for a second, "the penciler has learned from better comics that artists sometimes tilt their panels, but it seems he has not learned why."

I’ve created another digital artwork. This time, it’s a fan art that has been sitting in my mind for a while, just waiting for the right moment to come to life. And finally, that moment has arrived. As someone who constantly seeks ways to combine my artistic skills with the causes I believe in, I wanted to make sure this piece reflected a story I admire and a message that must be shared. Bringing this fan art to life was challenging and rewarding, as I poured my heart and soul into every detail.

This week, you see, is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week, and it got me thinking deeply about a particular animated short film that moved me to the core. That film is "Cuerdas," a Spanish animated short film by Pedro Solís García. It’s an emotional masterpiece that tells the touching story of a young girl, María, and her friend, a boy with cerebral palsy who remains unnamed throughout the film. This short film left such a lasting impression on me that I felt compelled to pay tribute to it through my fan art.

In my artwork, I’ve depicted the two main characters from “Cuerdas”—María, the kind-hearted and vibrant girl with a zest for life, and her best friend, the unnamed boy, who has cerebral palsy. His condition means he is confined to a wheelchair, but despite his limitations, María’s love and care bring so much light into his life. The dynamic between these two characters is what captured my heart. Their friendship is a beautiful example of unconditional love and support, showing that true connections can transcend physical barriers.

I took great care in creating the visual details for this artwork, particularly focusing on capturing the tenderness and innocence that María and her friend share. María’s appearance is cheerful and bright, just as it is in the short film. She wears a school uniform—a navy blue sleeveless vest over a white shirt and a blue plaid skirt. Her short brown hair is neatly styled with a pink headband, decorated with a small flower. It’s a simple accessory, but it adds a touch of personality, representing her joyful and sunny nature. Her wide, sparkling blue eyes reflect her compassion and genuine care for her friend, showing how she sees beyond his disability and treats him with love and friendship.

Now, the unnamed boy in the wheelchair—his expression is a bit more subtle but no less meaningful. I wanted to capture the way he looks at María with admiration and happiness, despite his physical limitations. His eyes are bright, golden-brown, and filled with gratitude for the friendship he’s found with María. He, too, wears a school uniform similar to María’s, but instead of a skirt, he has green shorts, allowing his legs to rest comfortably on the wheelchair’s footrest. His body language, while restricted due to his condition, still shows how much he enjoys being with María. He is seated in a wheelchair, which I designed with careful attention to ensure it looks practical and comfortable.

“Cuerdas” was released in 2013, and even though it’s a short film, its impact is incredibly profound. Directed and written by Pedro Solís García, the film tells the story of María, a young girl who forms a deep bond with a new student at her school—a boy with cerebral palsy. Unlike the other children, who either ignore or pity him, María goes out of her way to include him in her life. She invents a game involving ropes—or “cuerdas” in Spanish—which allows them to play together in their unique way. The ropes represent not only the literal method of communication and play between María and the boy but also the metaphorical connection that forms between them.

I think that’s what makes this film so special—it highlights the power of compassion and understanding, especially when it comes to friendships that transcend barriers. Watching María care so deeply for her friend without any expectation of reward or recognition is a reminder of the pure goodness that exists in the world. It also serves as a powerful reminder of how we can break down barriers of isolation for those with disabilities, simply by extending our hands in friendship, just as María did with her friend.

What makes “Cuerdas” even more touching is that it’s inspired by real-life events. The director, Pedro Solís García, based the story on his own experiences with his son, who has cerebral palsy. Knowing this gives the film an extra layer of emotional depth, as it’s a personal reflection of the challenges and joys that come with caring for someone with a disability. The authenticity of the film adds a heartfelt sincerity to the story, making it even more impactful for viewers. Through "Cuerdas," audiences can witness the beauty of friendship and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

As I was working on this fan art, I couldn’t help but think about my original characters (OCs), Arlon and Liliana. In some ways, I realise that “Cuerdas” had a deep influence on how I developed their relationship. Liliana, much like María, is the kind of character who befriends Arlon, despite his differences. In my stories, Arlon is autistic, and while his autism presents its own set of challenges, Liliana never lets that get in the way of their friendship. She’s patient, and understanding, and finds creative ways to connect with him, just like María did with her friend in “Cuerdas.”

The friendship between Liliana and Arlon is one of the core themes in my narratives. Liliana’s empathy and determination to be there for Arlon remind me so much of María’s relationship with the boy. She doesn't see Arlon’s autism as a burden but as a part of who he is. Through their friendship, both characters grow and learn from each other, just as María and the boy did. There’s something so pure about the way Liliana and Arlon interact, and I think that’s why I felt such a connection to “Cuerdas.”

Arlon, much like the boy in the short film, sometimes struggles with the world around him. He doesn’t always communicate in typical ways, and his sensory sensitivities can make certain situations overwhelming. But Liliana never gives up on him. She finds ways to make their friendship work, even when it might seem difficult to others. In many ways, their story mirrors the one told in “Cuerdas”—a story of understanding, patience, and the belief that love can bridge any gap, no matter how wide it may seem.

Creating this fan art was my way of honouring both “Cuerdas” and the relationships that inspire me in my creative work. I wanted to capture that same sense of hope and connection that the short film so beautifully conveys. The bright colours, the cheerful expressions, and the overall warmth of the scene are my tribute to the message of inclusivity and friendship that “Cuerdas” represents. I hope that viewers of my fan art can feel the same emotions of joy and unity that I experienced while creating it. It is a reminder that love knows no boundaries and that understanding and acceptance can truly bring people together in beautiful ways.

As I reflect on the impact that “Cuerdas” had on me, I realise how much art, in all its forms, has the power to change perspectives and open minds. A simple animated short film, just a few minutes long, can leave a lasting impression that stays with you for years. That’s the magic of storytelling—whether through films, books, or visual art, it allows us to see the world from new perspectives, to understand experiences different from our own, and to grow as individuals because of it.

My hope for this fan art is that it resonates with others who have seen “Cuerdas”, or even those who haven’t, but can feel the love and care between the two characters just by looking at it. I want people to see the beauty in the friendships that defy limitations, and to remember that everyone, no matter their abilities, deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. Art has the power to transcend boundaries and connect us on a deeper level, reminding us of the importance of empathy and compassion in our interactions with others.

Creating art is always a personal journey for me, but sometimes, like with this piece, it feels like so much more. It feels like a way to connect with others who share similar values, or who have been touched by stories like “Cuerdas.” I hope that this artwork serves as a reminder of the power of friendship, and how, with a little bit of love and creativity, we can all make the world a better place for those who need it most. Together, we can create a more compassionate and inclusive society.

here's the design! so she drowned (or rather, was drowned by someone else) at 16 after being stalked for a couple months and eventually kidnapped. not exactly the lightest story, but bc it was so traumatic her brain erased the memories, and she doesn't find out the real cause of death until much later in the story, when kye comes across a guy who lived in kyrie's town and gets the full story.

her outfit is themed after ophelia for. obvious reasons. i looked up paintings/common interpretations of ophelia and found that she was commonly depicted in a white and gold dress with reddish-brown hair half up. oh, and flowers. so i ran with that. the white streaks in her hair were actually not part of the initial plan, but when i was using the bucket tool it left blank streaks and i just thought it looked nice.

for the flowers i chose forget-me-nots because she loses her memory, and then the hands on the skirt represent her fight to stay alive (both while drowning and before) and how she reached out for help in the months leading up to her death but no one answered. she's also, in a way, reaching for her lost memories, who she used to be, etc etc. the blue thingy in the back was initially supposed to be a mermaid tail as like. a single callback to the little mermaid (and the fact that she was a really good swimmer, so it's ironic that she drowned), but i took the mermaid aspect out & added in the two eyes.

the eyes are like. the feeling of being watched. the eye at the front will always look at kyrie no matter what, and the eye in the back will look at anyone else it can find, as if pleading for help. i just noticed the bracelet? not sure why that's there. probably just for fun. anyways the ring with the star on it is from a play called 'the princess who had no name', which is about a princess with amnesia who's trying to find out who she is and where she came from.

and finally, the weapon! it's meant to be a sparkler, like the little fireworks yk? it's a callback to the very first draft of her character from like 2 years ago, back when the kyries shared the name lylie instead & i had written absolutely nothing about her character. but i was reading through the old plot/character info a while ago and i found out she apparently really liked fireworks??? that was like my only piece of info about her. i figured since she'd changed so much it was only fair i put a little something from her roots. but the sparkler can also represent how 'bright' she appears to be; people are drawn towards her, for better or worse.

the first fandom i remember like really being hyperfixated on was.... miraculous ladybug................. BUT i didn't make any fanart for it, so instead you get the very first real piece of art i ever made on my computer :)

shoutout to me for drawing those wings by hand. i didn't know how to use the flip tool so i just spent like 4 hours trying to make them symmetrical. and now i can't even remember how to draw butterfly wings. smh

i'll go with that aubrey piece from one of the earliest questions. i like how the emotions came across in both her expression and the coloring, and how much more fluid the pose is. i think the shading & rendering is neat. overall it's a big improvement from the piece i was redrawing so im really proud of that & it's nice to see how far i've come in a relatively short amount of time

using the same drawing, uhh... idk there's some stuff with the proportions that like. sometimes looks fine to me and sometimes looks off? i really just eyeball anatomy and stuff so it's not always particularly Good. i like the colors i have here but they're not the colors i was intending to use. i didn't really know how to draw the jacket and everything i did with the top just looked strange so they're not As Detailed or 'good' as they probably could be? there's parts where i got lazy and all that but all in all i really like this drawing and nothing big really jumps out at me, these are all just nitpicks

I think oils are cool, but I've never used them. long dry times so you can work on and blend areas for longer, but then having to wait for it to dry over days... it forces you into doing a specific approach to get things done, which is neat cuz it affects the way things look. however I don't have the space to have wet canvases lying around and my neurotic ass would worry too much about handling generally toxic oil painting materials. and the cleanup... no thanks...

9. What are your file name conventions

i think people who keyboard smash filenames and toss them into a folder live their lives in a completely incomprehensible way. what da hell.

anyway i usually do [topic]_brief-description or something like doodles_[mm-dd-yy] if it's a collection of misc stuff. If I am drawing for a specific fandom consistently it has its own subfolder I shove everything into but I still keep the filename prefix so I can do a windows search later. its not actually that organized or helpful because I don't keep to the system that much... -_-; my tagcen stuff might be labeled TAGCEN_shelterdogrizz.clip or character-specific like basil_lessofabitch.clip. the important part is just to label it enough that I can remember what's in it with the thumbnail/filename combo.

I started putting dates on stuff more both in the filename and in the canvas cuz my window file properties was fucking up and overwriting the "date created" field so I never knew when I started drawing something. I have bad memory so this is the only way I can keep track of time.

I usually clear out my pictures folder every year or so (and then back that archive up in 3 different places)

I started doing [yyyy-mm-dd]_filename more though because I got lazy about archiving and year-first made it easier to sort. I'm sorry for doubting my coworker on this it's actually a better choice

also when I save out duplicate versions or part1/part things I use filename_A, filename_B, filename_C instead of numbering them. holdover from fighting maya all my damn life (it will automatically increment trailing numbers when you duplicate meshes and uh. it causes conflicts. so I always use letters now)

if I'm working on a big file or a long project (rarely) I save out a copy of my file to serve as a checkpoint intermittently. this way if the file I'm working on gets corrupted for whatever reason I only lose some progress instead of all my progress. you want to get used to doing this if you don't want to get used to tragedy and file loss

20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy

people get so dramatic about drawing mechas and armor. it is not that bad. but I also think it's fun to figure out how to approximate/simplify designs, so that probably has something to do with it.

also i spent a lot of my youth drawing red vs blue fanart so I was forced to come up with halo 2 armor design shorthand one way or another. I'm burying the lede by not bringing that up first LOL

Have I ever told you how much I love Tharja from Fire Emblem? Cause this ain't her lol! It's Razmi from Indivisable and one of my fav's from that game. And yet another pic I'm extremely proud I commisioned. Probably because there's very few pics of Razmi without Bon over her head and I like when people experiment with this stuff.

Original description: When I played Indivisable for the first time and came across the character of Razmi it was pretty much a “love at first sight” scenario. Seriously, all though out the game she remained one of my favourite character. Her dialogue, her design and really she’s just a likable character for me. I mean, I love pretty much all the character in this game anyway, especially the main character Arjna, but Razmi is waifu! And also Thorani. And Bohzai… And I guess maybe that one massive snake lady, look you get my point. So it was inevitable that I would get a commission of her one day and now here we are. Razmi in some Gothic Belly Dancer attire. That’s actually a genuine style of belly dancing two. I didn’t even know that until a few months ago thanks to another user here on DA who’s also into it. And given Razmi’s personality and design I thought it would be fitting to put her in this particular outfit. Well, I was actually torn between her and Tharja from Fire Emblem and either could of worked just as well given how both are similar in design, both are socially awkward, both use dark forms of… magic and both… sound… identical… Wait a minute! *Goes to look up the voice actress for both Tharja and Razmi.* … Wow, so I’m NOT crazy! Both character not only have similar qualities, but also are both voiced by Stephanie Sheh. I’m convinced someone working at Lab Zero was a fan of Tharja and she was an inspiration. Although apparently in an early prototype Razmi was actually voiced by Christina Vee. The same voice actress that plays Shantae. Considering she and many other characters WERE going to be added into the game as guest characters that’s both surprisingly ironic and also saddens me because that never ended up happening. ☹ And no, for those wondering, despite my massive love for Shantae she alone WASN’T the sole reason I wanted to play this game! It was actually on my radar well before I even learnt about her planned inclusion. Mostly because of my friend who also loves this game and said it was great. And also I enjoyed their previous game Skullgirls… Even though I absolutely suck at it. It was more the characters than the actual game I liked with Skullgirls. Is there anything else I can think to add here? Other than I love Razmi (again) and love how this pic turned out I can’t really think of anything.
