Just spent the last 10 minutes sobbing over 'Of mice and men'
Why George? WHY?????
(I mean I know but I'm still upset)
I loved Lennie, he is my favourite and I relate to him so much (he also heavily reminds me of my sibling). I understand that Stienbeck was being realistic but Idc
New Canon: they all got their farm. George grew all his crops, got his animals and little farmhouse, Candy stayed and helped in the house and Lennie tended to the rabbits, fed them all the alfalfa they could ever need 😭😭😭😭😭
#Of mice and men#lennie small#george milton#John Steinbeck#I will never again be confused when my friends cry on the final show if I sob for longer over characters I've known less than 103 pages#Can we pretend the book ends on page 82#No dead puppies#No dead Curleys wife#And no dead Lennie#I love Lennie 😭#Never has a character been more relatable#“I like beans with ketchup” me too dude#Also the whole petting soft things#And lack of social awareness#Idk if Lennie is meant to be autistic but close enough cause I feel deeply connected to him#My eyes feel weird now#Been rocking for 30 mins#And gonna continue

update on The Twins (iykyk) for the mutuals that are invested in my story🥰 AND MY HATER. 😠😠😠 you know who you are.
get ready for some big yap time!!!!!!!
ok this is actually about 1 out of the 2 and im gonna call him mr. eye candy because thats all he is to me alright!!!!!!! trust me on this!!!!
so for english lit we're studying of mice and men and my teacher did a thing where to 'understand' the character of curley's wife (only female surrounded by men, promiscuous + disrespected and objectified kind of character it was set in the 1930s you get the gist), she chose mr. eye candy to act as her and everyone else would take turns calling him really bad stuff (bitch and whore and allat) and he had to act sad and embarassed and all. (not the point but i DID get to enunciate my bitch really strongly and it felt so good)
and THEN our teacher turned it around and now we each had to FLIRT with him and he had to FLIRT BACK and uhm... do u see where this is going. lowk really awkward but he was SO INTO IT bro 😭and yeah he was all like 😏hey, and i had to go hey good looking 😉 (THERE WAS A SCRIPT. THERE WAS A SCRIPT THERE WAS A SCRIPT) and he went all giddy and lame like teehee you too 😘 and i wanted to drop dead right then and there. doesnt help that he was insisting on the eye contact bro JUST SHOOT ME ALREADY 😭😭😭😭
anwyays the end. ngl i find it a little odd our teacher made us do that but if it helps then i guess 🤷 somebody gotta bully me outta this stupid crush bc why did THIS occurrence stir up so much in me like ewwwwww stop

Of Mice And Men: Thoughts
(Warning: disjointed thoughts, spoilers)
It's one of the few pieces of literature that got me into tragedies
It was also the first John Steinbeck novel I've ever read and it was off to a good start for me so far. As someone who enjoys historical fiction, this book was like a window to 1920's post great depression America.
From the very beginning, Lennie and George dream of having their own plot to "live off the fat of the land". Begins with them at the stream, dreaming, and I love the cyclical storyline where it ends in the same spot, doing the same thing; the only thing different was that Lenny is shot dead by George.
Lennie seemed to be a doomed character from the very beginning. He seems to have some mental issues and constantly needs George's help and instruction. His liking for soft things and his inability to be gentle was his downfall, and his fate was sealed when he accidentally strangled Curley's wife.
What can we make of George having to kill Lennie because of this? Lennie had always felt like he was burdening George. I wouldn't know what went on in George's mind as he held the gun to Lennie's head. It clearly never was a good riddance to George to shoot Lennie. He shot him to save his life. Better for him to die by George's hand than by Curley's. We can see how distraught George is after the act, that Slim offered to take him out for some drinks.
The great depression vibe is strong in this novella. The foreshadowing is strong.
Crooks declared that he never saw any man get their own plot of land and they end up swamping and working for ranches forever. And that exactly happened. George and Lennie didn't get to do that.
Candy having to put down his old dog-- also foreshadowing of George having to put down his old friend, Lennie.
Though compact and only having six chapters, it's rich with tragedy and emotion in every page. Steinbeck's description of nature in the first chapter is also *chef's kiss*.
Heartbreaking piece. I've read it only twice or thrice, but I love it to death. I'm so glad I had it as part of my English major in uni.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________
Lennie was dead. George had killed Lennie. George knew it was for the best, but the pain in his heart felt suffocating. ‘George?’ a smooth voice called from the trees. ‘Oh, George,’ Slim crouched next to Lennie’s cold body.
‘How’d you do it?’ Carlson asked excitedly
George felt so tired. ‘I just did it,’ he said bluntly. Slim could tell from his voice that he hated himself in that moment. He sent Carlson a glare that said ‘shut up, you dunce’ and helped George to his feet.
‘You did the right thing.’ He murmured reassuringly. George simply nodded, not fully convinced.
The group of men trudged back to the bunkhouse, Slim and George leading the way.
‘If only I’d gotten to that bastard myself.’ Curley said, agitated.
‘’spose it doesn’t matter’ Carlson said. ‘As long as he’s dead. That’s all that really matters. We’ll need to get your wife a grave site, and quick. All the good ones get snatched up in winter.’
George made a face at the change of subject. How could those men be talking so casually about a dead woman? Sure, she wasn’t the best but it didn’t take a genius to figure out that her life wasn’t perfect. And Lennie. He was dead. And these people were happy about it. He felt sick.
Slim noticed and pulled him aside.
‘Y’ok, George?’
‘Yeah, yeah I’m fine. Just a bit shocked s’all’
Slim nodded skeptically.
‘We’ll put you t’bed, yeah? Get some rest. It’ll help with the shock.’
They eventually got to the bunkhouse and George immediately got under his burlap bedding. Slim looked at him, concerned.
‘C’mon, Slim. He’ll be fine, just needs some alone time. He’ll get over it soon enough.’
Slim sighed and turned to leave the room. Taking one last look at George, he heard muffled sobs. His heart broke and he wished to go and comfort him, but he knew George would just brush him off. He wasn’t good at showing his feelings, nor was anyone on the ranch.
Later that evening, Slim brought George some soup.
‘George?’ he said softly. ‘George i brought you some soup.’
‘’m not hungry.’ Came the reply.
‘I know you don’t feel hungry George, but trust me, it’ll help’
George reluctantly shuffled to out his back against the wall. Slim had to hold back a gasp. George’s eyes were puffy, his usually porcelain face was blotchy, showing Slim how upset he really was.
‘Don’t want the others to see my like this.’ He said, horsely.
‘They’ve all gone into town,’ Slim explained. ‘All… celebrating.’
George’s shoulders slumped and Slim flinched as he realised that his choice of words probably weren’t helping George’s mood.
‘I don’t understand why they all hate him so much.’ George chocked out. ‘He did nothing to them. He got a bit rough at times, and sure he did things he shouldn’t have, but he didn’t deserve to die.’
Slim nodded sympathetically.
‘When… when I did it. He was talking about those blasted rabbits. I’m going to do it, Slim.’
‘Do it?’
‘I’m gonna get that ranch. I’m gonna grow alfalfa and- and live off the fatta-‘
A sob broke off his sentence. Slim looked over to see tears streaming down his face. ‘George, I know it’s hard. You need to understand that it was for the best. Curley would’ve gotten him eventually. And he would’ve made it a lot worse.’
George nodded, sniffing a bit.
‘Thank you, Slim. I know this is probably a but awkward for you.’ He laughed a little. ‘But I really appreciate you being here for me.’
‘Of course. We’re team mates on this ranch. You can always count on me!’
George smiled a bit, the first time that day.
Slim smiled too, his eyes flickering down to George’s lips. George’s smile slowly left his face as he lent towards Slim.
Slowly their eyes closed.
The tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
There was a few inches between their lips.
They got closer, and closer until…
‘Slim!’ A voice boomed through the room.
The two men sprung apart.
Curley stood at the door, arms folded, looking George up and down judgementally. ‘Me and the others are goin’ to get something to eat. Do you… you two wanna come?’ Slim looked at George, who was rubbing his face with his hands to try and hide the tear stains. ‘I think we’ll skip this one, thanks though.’ Slim said, sending Curley a polite smile.
‘What?’ Curley cried out in disbelief. ‘You aren’t comin’? Just to spend time with-‘
Slim cut him off sharply. ‘I said no thank you Curley. You enjoy yourself, but me and George are alright here f’now.’
Curley glared at George, before huffing and spinning on his heel and leaving the two men alone.
‘Y’didn’t have to do that.’ George said bashfully, avoiding Slim’s eyes. ‘Nah, I know… but it was worth it. Getta spend more time with you, don’t I.’
George’s faced burned and he hastily turned away. Gently, Slim cupped George’s chin. He carefully forced George to look at him. After sitting in silence for a minute they both leaned in.
Softly, their lips touched. Butterflies invaded Slim’s stomach as he pulled away. Although their lips had barely touched, he felt drunk on happiness.
‘Slim…’ George muttered. ‘We can’t do this, Slim. It ain’ right. Two men-‘
This time Slim cut George off… with his lips. This kiss was much more passionate, and George melted into it almost immediately. Slim held him closer, gently pushing him to the bed.
‘We can stop if you want,’ he said, smirking. George quickly leaned up, capturing Slim’s lips with his own.

The small town was founded in August 1883 and then mid September, 10 residents were killed in a massacre.
Now my personal theory based on facts pointed out on the wiki and the writing on the house on the right side of the town is this: Either the people who lived there were in a cult, worshiped something other than what was accepted in the area, OR were killed BY a cult.
The writing on the house says “unclean sinners” and “ill with sin” so maybe people did get sick, maybe that’s just what some religious fanatics thought they were. Or maybe they thought the people got sick because of their sins. Something else pointed out was the church has no cross. There’s a weather vane but no cross. Which points more towards the town was a different religion and outsiders of the town attacked them, killing 10 of them who were buried.

From the Red Dead wiki:
The town has much in common with Boston Township, Summit County, Ohio, otherwise known simply as “Helltown”. The church in Boston Township is almost identical to the one in Pleasance, and both were rumored to have been abandoned due to Satanists.
-There was also rumored to be a chemical spill in Boston Township in 1974, causing animals to change in size and behavior; the most famous rumored animal said to be lurking in Boston Township was a giant python. Similarly, there is a giant snake outside of Pleasance.

So
I just finished reading Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck for my Advanced English class and I am actually sobbing! Like, Lennie didn't deserve any of that! He was confused and scared when Curley's Wife started screaming! He didn't understand any of it and didn't know his own stength! Then he runs off to where George told him he would be safe and he hallucinates his Aunt Clara! THIS IS MADNESS! And then George arrives and tells him about the farm and their plans while pointing a gun at the back of his head! THEN GEORGE FREAKING SHOOTS HIM!!!!! THIS IS NOT OKAY!!!! HOW DARE YOU ALLOW ME TO BECOME EMOTIONALLY INVESTED IN A CHARACTER THEN HAVE HIM BE KILLED IN SUCH A SAD AND HEART WRENCHING WAY!!!!!!! I WANNA BRING JOHN STEINBECK BACK FROM THE DEAD JUST TO KILL HIM AGAIN!!!!!!! I AM RAGING AND SOBBING AT THE EXACT SAME TIME!!!!! 😭😭😭😭

Digimon tamers retrospective- Episode 20
Impmon got very lucky here. If it wasn’t for renamon rescuing him, indramon not taking the fight seriously, or yamaki unleashing the juggernaut, He would have been dead on the spot
Of course, the tamers are going to wish later that they didn’t let him run off…
Takato, kazu, and kenta don’t notice makuramon walking behind them, not until he swoops in for takato’s digivice
So, yamaki’s technobabble about electromagnetic energy and false proteins can be a bit much for the average viewer
My headcanon is that digimon on earth are like specters from code lyoko; their bodies are made of gas that has entered a solidified state(not unlike when the kids teleported to X.A.N.A.’s bases during season 4)
Oh shit, the monster makers are here
Headcanon: Curley based her nickname after her favorite of the three stooges
Another headcanon: daisy and Babel are totally married
Another another headcanon: shibumi introduced janyu to his future wife
Love that these guy are the ones who created digimon. Like imagine you worked together on a group project back in college, and then 20 years later the government say “your neopets are currently terrorizing metropolis”
“I know I could help if I could be a tamer” uggh, jeri feels so useless here(I’m not attacking her, that’s just what she feels) she wants so much to be helpful and it’s just
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/918c8bdefa8acfe1d6d56bffb2326486/7eb0edf1b8df5387-62/s500x750/b771fbf6c539d3d277118e9b30cb7933e597758b.jpg)
(This is also the first time we see her cry)
Kazu is the one to unlock the secret of unlocking blue cards. Don’t think anyone’s saw that coming
(Bet jeri feels even more useless now, considering kazu of all people was more help than her)
“So takato drew guilmon, and he’s a crummy artist” someone’s jealous
And now takato’s calling out attack names(man UP, Marcus)

A CONSPIRACY THEORY YOU KINDA BELIEVE IN — princess diana was murdered
ARE ALIENS REAL? — maybe the real aliens are the friends we made along the way

The New Titans #61

Jericho is about to jerk off Speedy in the lower right hand corner.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5f8fd95ae9ef7b1ae5acdc22db0273eb/add0ffc99ef782bc-c6/s400x600/29d63912b6d48d2efe6942d676140c7628e408c0.jpg)
I wish Judd Winick had believed this.
The entire story doesn't simply revolve around Batman's reaction to the death of Jason Todd and some punk kid presuming to think he can fix Batman because this chapter is in The New Titans. So the Titans get a few pages where they deal with a crank phone call.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b67e22ae2e5810e78d69ff93d1a71741/add0ffc99ef782bc-8a/s400x600/38e9d42a09ad0347587062a556f1827f47272795.jpg)
Also Jericho comes on to Speedy. And judging by the cover, it works.
After not being able to find Nightwing last issue because the only thing they tried was paging him, Raven tracks him down instantly when Jericho needs to get rid of her to have some privacy with Speedy. She tracks him down using her powers of, um, feelings? and teleports directly to him. She has a recording of the message the crank phone caller left that can only be played on Dick's wrist computer (which I guess didn't have email in 1989? Not even Eudora or Lotus Notes? What good is Waynetech if they can't even make that shit portable?!). Meanwhile, Speedy spurts all over Jericho's face. Don't worry, it's off-panel. But I pictured it in my head! Nightwing figures out all the clues left him by Batman's crank phone call and meets up with Batman. No wonder Dick feels like Batman doesn't give a shit about him. What kind of a way is that to contact your son?! You can't just page him like everybody else? Oh! Nightwing's pager was presumably off. That's why the Titans trying to contact Nightwing was important! But Batman knew an alternate way of contacting Dick that wasn't too sappy or seemed too desperate or would end in some kind of intimate hug. Although the two do smile at each other when they meet up so I think that means they've reconciled?! Batman crashes into the building to capture Two-Face (or fall into two traps) while Nightwing goes around back to block off Two-Face's retreat. I bet if Two-Face knew that Robin had recently died, he wouldn't be poking at the Batman like this. When Batman finally catches him, Two-Face will be glad that Nightwing was brought in so he can save Two-Face's life. Nightwing turns on his homing beacon to let Alfred know they need help when he and Batman can't figure out Two-Face's plan. He's more responsible than I am. I'd never ask for help because I know Batman would yell at me afterward. I'd rather be dead in the collapsed building like Batman and Nightwing than have to face Batman's wrath. Oh yeah, Two-Face collapses the building on them! They're dead! I mean, obviously they're not dead. But they need to be saved! And I'm sure Alfred will dress up like Batman to save them and not send an inexperienced young Master Drake in a Robin outfit instead. Right?! The New Titans #61 Rating: B. Seriously, I don't know what's going on but Marv Wolfman's telling a pretty good story here. Although I wish it had a little more angst-ridden Batman rending his garments over poor dead Jason Todd. I know he's not prone to showing emotion but he can cry at least once, right?! I guess when he tells Dick, "I nee...I could use your help," that was him saying, "I'm so fucking lost right now, Dick. What the hell do I do now?! I can't even protect my sons!"

These Violent delights leads to violent ends
Such Violent Delight Often Leads to Violent Ends
By Shane Patrick LaGrange
This is dedicated to those greats, which passed to soon.
Wrestling, it is the age-old combat between gladiators. Good vs Evil. It is a violent world abet staged, but we the fans love it.
The square circle is their domain. Frequently, a myriad of guests appeared on the program. Curley of the Three Stooges, The Muppets to SNL’s Collin Josh. In case things went off script as they often do (That is how the conflict begins). To do this, I imagine celebrity guest must sign a form saying they will not sue. This lets the promoter knows, sure, hit me with a metal chair and put that Stank into it. Yesh, I would love to be face planted into the mat by Alexa Bliss. I would decline (not a fan of immense pain). Heaven help me if Rhea Ripley steps into the ring
Of course, not all, ninety- eight percent of wrestlers passed away to do organ failure or brain injury, or disease.
Browsing through various Wikipedia, wrestlers to follow on Instagram, I came across Nancy Benoit. I was saddened to hear about her sudden death. To countless fans, she was Fallen Angel. To others, Jenny Green aka the enigmatic Woman. These names are symbolic, as the harbinger of Kevin Sullivan. Where she went Sullivan was not far behind.
She was found dead, in her home. Both her and her son, both strangled. The crime was presented over her husband: Chris Beloit but alter waiting for his crimes in jail, decided to commit suicide.
I and my wife are huge wrestling. It started with Mid-South wrestling back in 1986.with Cowboy Bill Watts. This was my Saturday morning. No theatrics. Just guys beating the snot out of each other. Great strategy having them come out, so the channel will not be changed. I watch through TNT Nitro and the Nitro Girls. Yes, I know it is staged except where the belts are concern; then it was every man for himself or women as it is now. Thanks to the Bella twins for the rise in woman power, and not being the arm candy or ego strokers.
It got me thinking. Wrestling, like all contact sports is violent. Any type of sport event is going to be. Football for example back in the 60s and 70s, when Linebackers were assassins, and bonuses were poured out to players that took someone out like the Quarterback out for a season of two. Even though it is illegal, I can catch one or two being suitable about it.
This is my ode for some of the more violent ways, they died.
Janet Wolfe. Born 1933-1951. Her cause of death: in a match with Ella Walddek, was body slammed so viciously to the mat, it caused a ruptured vein in her stomach. She collapsed to the ring mat, later that night. Her death caused by a brain hemorrhage, and on 4am July thirty-eight., she passed away at the early age of eighteen.
Owen Hart is the most tragic death. Trying the TNT’s argument with Flair and the New World Order, trying a Sting like maneuver where he would drop down holding a baseball bat, the cable snapped, sending falling fifty feet.to the canvas. Below, after attempting a Sting like move, where he would be lowered via a cable. No one was sure what to make of it; everyone expected him to slowly get up. He died on the spot, and thanks to Jim Ross, the family launched a suit, receiving eighteen million for her and her son.
Christopher Barton Von Erich. Otherwise known as Chris Von Erich of the high flying Von Erich family. Trained by the legendary Fritz Von Eric himself, he died by a self-inflicted gunshot to the head after learning of the unfortunate demise of his brother, Mike Von Erich in 1987. November thirtieth, He was shot in Baltimore. Shot to death by an angry husband (see expose in Hustler Magazine.2008), that Chis was seeing.
JYD-The Junk Yard Dog otherwise known as Sylvester Ritter, he always entered the ring with his signature chains and dog collar, an incredible athlete, JYD passed away from a single car accident, June 1st. Most notably, he became the First Black wrestler, to be make top star of wrestling. Never one to bring in someone new to get rid of a group, JYD went off against rule -breaking Michael Hayes. Finally, the Freebirds splashed hair cream in JYD’s face blinded him. Later, in a steel cage match, still blinded, he and Michael “P S “squared off. Hayes never one to read the contract being more in interested in the money and video’s, it was easy to slip in a “Ringer,” like Thunderbolt Patterson.
Chris Adams. He was best known as the Gentlemen Wrestler. In April 2000, he, and his girlfriend, was found inside a friend’s apartment. Overdose on GHB and alcohol. He (Chris Adams), recovered, but Linda Kaphengst died at the hospital ten hours later. Chris was arrested and indicted. On a manslaughter charges, for the death of Kaphengst. In October 2001, while awaiting trial, he was fatally shot in the chest during a drunkard brawl with Brent “Booray” Parnell. The gun owner claimed self-defense and was acquitted of all charges.
Wrestling star, Joan Marie Laurer or best known as, Chyna ; On April twentieth, 2016, was found dead in her Redondo Beach, California in April. She was forty-six. Anthony Anzaido, her manager, becoming concern after the superstar was not into her social Media outlet. Went to see in her apartment. The cause of death was eighter drugs or natural causes.
Ms. Elizbeth and Randy “Macho Man” Savage, secretly married to the soft-spoken woman. Randy Savage was a man I considered to be wound tighter than a Swiss watch. He died while suffering a heart attack and ran his car onto a tree. Elizabeth Ann Hulette aka the beautiful Leggy reserved and soft-spoken Ms. Elizabeth. She was also ringside along with Savage while he partnered up with Hulk Hogan to face Andrea the Giant and Ted Debase. Ms. Elizabeth ripped her skirt revealing her panties. Distracting The Giant which gave Hogan and Savage enough time to gain their breath. Her Siren come hither Helen of Troy looks, caused many a feud between George: The Animal” Steele, Honky Tonk man, and Ric Flair.
In conclusion, not all wrestlers perished by those other means, discussed, with several, it was plain natural cause or unknown cause of death.
Tired of the numerous storylines, I took a break from the sport. Especially after TNT’s New World Order and The Powers that be.
Today’s superstars, their life in the squared circle, is just as touchy. Such names as John Moxley, Judgement Day, Ronda Rousey, Liv Morgan, Damage Control and Roman Reign” Acknowledge Me!! “(To name a few). Ladder matches, the I quit, Their in-squared life more brutal. More impulsively, not so much the billions of storylines (exaggerated). It is still that battle over titles. Interference in matches, retaliation backstage, that fans tune into.

idk if anyone has read Of Mice and Men and if ur reading it for class or dont want the ending spoiled dont keep reading but
it’s horribly disturbing. speaking as a woman and a vegan i hate the whole thing. one of the main characters consistently murders animals because he is simply too big to not hurt them and he doesn't realize he’s hurting them until they are dead, but it’s played off as not a big deal, oh Lennie’s done a thing again, whatever. and George keeps giving him mice, and a then a puppy, and they’re both just killed by Lennie. i feel like everyone just brushing off the fact that he just killed an animal definitely leads into how he reacts when he murders Curley’s wife. btw, he murders a woman and i get the point of the book, it’s to make you think, is Lennie responsible for this bc he’s mentally disabled and he didn’t mean to harm her, but it’s absolutely awful. the description of her murder is terrifying and the focus of death is on Lennie, and then on Curley. genuinely, my teacher needed to have warned us, if he’s making this book assigned reading, that this book is deeply triggering and terrifying, and horribly violent towards women. i’m so unsettled and upset.

A glimpse into a jam-packed day! It was the day to discover the man island of Kalsoy. Woke up early enough, filled our tummies and we headed off to Klaskvik on the neighbouring island of Bordoy. It’s advisable to get to the ferry station early enough as the ferry only holds about 16/17 vehicles. The first row is for the citizens and the 2-3-4 for the tourists, buses, etc. We got in 2 hours prior to our departure time of 10 am. Got over to the island in less than 20 mins. Getting off the Ferry was quite something. The cars are lined in a very specific way as they are gestured in by the ferryman. The same way they are instructed in, they are instructed out.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/df204ebb8e919b8c118c78bf855b777b/18b2cb768f12eab1-2f/s540x810/a719e4e899f16d9e44fa37c7bca2d02f201add98.jpg)
Exploring Klaksvik before boarding the ferry station on the opposite side
Well, we were waiting for our turn but then this car lined parallel behind us decided he wanted to get out first. The ferryman gestured us to wait and started instructing this white Toyota out. When the car came neck to neck with us, we realized there was no driver in it. The ferryman noticed it at the same time as us. With his two hands holding the car in place, while his colleague went around looking for the driver of this white Toyota, he gave us a little head nod of disbelief. Of course, it was a woman!! I had predicted it, I am a woman, yes and I am going to say this. Women are the worse drivers ever. They won’t cause crashes but they will, however, cause daft mistakes that might lead to a blunder and they probably wouldn’t even know of the damage they caused coz they will be so oblivious. Miss Curley tops came down and finally turns off her engine and put her car in park! Our side-view mirror barely managed to live.. and we decided to stay the hell away from her and drove out, on our way over to to the village of Trollanes ( way up north).
Parked the car in the tiny village and hiked our way over to the Kallut lighthouse. The weather was treacherous and the hike fairly intermediate. let’s just say it kept us on our toes with the heavy winds either pushing us forward or pulling us back. We were at the lighthouse in less than 45 mins… couldn’t stay long as there was no point being slapped mercilessly by the winds. Enroute I met this black sheep, who by far is the most defiant little creature I met. Normally you can never get in very close proximity of sheep, I was convinced that he was blind as I was in touching distance – almost at an arm’s length from him. He definitely wasn’t blind as whenever I would extend my arm out to touch him or even gesture to touch him, he would move an inch backward but would never keep his eyes off me.

Clicked this picture right in his face, no zoom needed- he was quite brazen, or maybe it was me Afterall, I was the one visiting his territory!
We had a face-off and in the end, we both decided that it was enough time wasted at staring at each other. The lighthouse hike is lovely, it is short enough and keeps your focus all throughout as certain areas need your attention and skill. Way down was faster and of course easy enough and it was time to head over and say hello to the Selkie. The seal woman or the selkie is a steel statue of the seal wife, right on the Mikladalur harbor.
This is the story of the Selkie :
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6c03c1b6e679ada4557ac84e15693dfe/18b2cb768f12eab1-a8/s540x810/b12e1c8750b825feaea607e9f4b008879498197c.jpg)
The legend of Kópakonan (the Seal Woman) is one of the best-known folktales in the Faroe Islands.
Seals were believed to be former human beings who voluntarily sought death in the ocean. Once a year, on the Thirteenth night, they were allowed to come on land, strip off their skins and amuse themselves as human beings, dancing and enjoying themselves.
A young farmer from the village of Mikladalur on the northern island of Kalsoy, wondering if this story was true, went and lay in wait on the beach one-Thirteenth evening. He watched and saw the seals arriving in large numbers, swimming towards the shore. They clambered on to the beach, shed their skins and laid them carefully on the rocks. Divested of their skins, they looked just like normal people. The young lad stared at a pretty seal girl placing her skin close to the spot where he was hiding, and when the dance began, he sneaked up and stole it. The dancing and games went on all night, but as soon as the sun started to peep above the horizon, all the seals came to reclaim their skins to return to the sea. The seal girl was very upset when she couldn’t find her skin, though its smell still lingered in the air, and then the man from Mikladalur appeared holding it, but he wouldn’t give it back to her, despite her desperate entreaties, so she was obliged to accompany him to his farm.
He kept her with him for many years as his wife, and she bore him several children, but he always had to make sure that she didn’t have access to her skin. He kept it locked up in a chest to which he alone had the key, a key which he kept at all times on a chain attached to his belt.
One day, while he was out at sea fishing with his companions, he realized he had left the key at home. He announced to his companions, ‘Today I shall lose my wife!’ – and he explained what had happened. The men pulled in their nets and lines and rowed back to the shore as fast as they could, but when they arrived at the farm, they found the children all alone and their mother was gone. Their father knew she wasn’t going to come back, as she had put out the fire and put away all the knives so that the young ones couldn’t do themselves any harm after she’d left.
Indeed, once she had reached the shore, she had put on her sealskin and plunged into the water, where a bull seal, who had loved her all those years before and was still waiting for her, popped up beside her. When her children, the ones she had had with the Mikladalur man, later came down to the beach, a seal would emerge and look towards the land; people naturally believed that it was the children’s mother. And so the years passed.
Then one day it happened that the Mikladalur men planned to go deep into one of the caverns along the far coast to hunt the seals that lived there. The night before they were due to go, the man’s seal wife appeared to him in a dream and said that if he went on the seal hunt in the cavern, he should make sure he didn’t kill the great bull seal that would be lying at the entrance, for that was her husband. Nor should he harm the two seal pups deep inside the cave, for they were her two young sons, and she described their skins so he would know them. But the farmer didn’t heed the dream message. He joined the others on the hunt, and they killed all the seals they could lay their hands on. When they got back home, the catch was divided up, and for his share, the farmer received the large bull seal and both the front and the hind flippers of the two young pups.
In the evening, when the head of the large seal and the limbs of the small ones had been cooked for dinner, there was a great crash in the smoke-room, and the seal woman appeared in the form of a terrifying troll; she sniffed at the food in the troughs and cried the curse: ‘Here lies the head of my husband with his broad nostrils, the hand of Hárek and the foot of Fredrik! Now there shall be revenge, revenge on the men of Mikladalur, and some will die at sea and others fall from the mountain tops until there be as many dead as can link hands all round the shores of the isle of Kalsoy!’
When she had pronounced these words, she vanished with a great crash of thunder and was never seen again. But still today, alas, it so happens from time to time that men from the village of Mikladalur get drowned at sea or fall from the tops of cliffs; it must, therefore, be feared that the number of victims is not yet great enough for all the dead to link hands around the whole perimeter of the isle of Kalsoy. THE END
In the evening we decided to explore the village of Leirvik, a neighbouring village to Nordagota which is where we are staying. Enjoying the ice cream and walking through the tiny streets admiring the Faroese way of living and discussing their charm and hospitality. The evening was then spent in the company of my Faroese friend – Flovin who is an aspiring YouTuber, the best one by far. Here is the link:-

Of Mice and Men Essay
Yo. It’s been a while. I’ve always said I was quite an irregular poster.
But I’m here to post what I consider to be one of my greatest achievements to date, 5th March 2017.
I just completed a 1.5k+ word essay on the book ‘Of Mice and Men’, on the modified topic question of “Every good story needs a hero.” Does Of Mice and Men have a ‘hero’ character? And if so, who is it and why?
I’d like to dedicate this essay to Sian for their help in coming up with ideas for some of the harder characters like Curley, and believing that I could write this in a day, which I did manage.
Here we go. This is a whole days worth of work for me. I’m off to bed now.
Not all stories have a clear and defined ‘hero’ character, but that does not mean that the story is a ‘bad’ one. A story does not have to have a single ‘hero’ character, rather all characters are heroes in their own way. Each character is both ‘good’ and ‘bad’, there is no totally bad or totally good, only an in-between. Being a hero is a subjective, a singular reader’s perspective differs to the next.
A mere stablehand. A nigger. Proud. Aloof. Crooks the negro stable-buck was segregated from the fellowship of man that existed in the close quarters of the bunk house. He lived in a totally different world to what we in exist in now. Here in modern Sydney, the level of discrimination and hatred that was directed towards him over the course of his lifetime, made worse by his hunched back would not have been stood for, it’s more than barely legal, it’s prosecutable. The racial discrimination and slurs went above and beyond what anyone should ever have to go through, and yet he persisted. He knew that if he kept to himself, and left the white men alone, the racial language and actions against him wouldn’t be as bad, but no matter what he did it would always be there. Unescapable. The way he treats his possessions shows that if he had anyone willing to befriend him that he wouldn’t treat them like the dirt he was considered to be. His patience in such a dire time is truly indicative of a hero waiting for his time to come.
Mrs Curley, AKA Curley’s wife as she is simply known to us, was shown as nothing more than a tart and a whore though her provocative behaviour is most likely a hidden desire for fulfilling her personal dreams and hopes of a man to love and take care of her, as seen in the barn in Chapter 5 when she lets Lennie stroke her hair. Her own weaknesses led to her death, it’s a classic Aristotle model of tragedy in which the hero is seriously flawed, taking them down the path to their own downfall. Mrs Curley’s plans to seduce the ranchers failed, ultimately ending in her tragic death at Lennie’s hands, a pristine example of Robert Burns “the best laid plans of mice and men / often go awry” from the 1785 poem ‘To A Mouse’.
Candy’s name is one of the most fitting in Of Mice & Men. The soft-spoken amputee is the first character we meet on the ranch. From the moment he met George and Lennie, he welcomed them, though he may have simply dismissed them as just another couple a’ men passing through, until he hears George and Lennie’s dream. His heroic offering of his money to fund the purchase of their dream land is exemplary of a self-less man who simply wishes to see others reach their goals. When he and George discover the body of Curley’s wife, he aids George in the cover-up of her death, giving us a glimpse of his mindset that if he were to be discovered it wouldn’t matter, he was coming close to his time to go, similar to his dog.
In the novella of Of Mice and Men, Carlson, one of the ranch workers there at the time of George and Lennie’s stay and is more one of the silent background with a few standout scenes. His first scene in which we get a real glance of who Carlson is as a person is when he convinces Candy that his dog should be put out of its misery. Carlson’s forcing of Candy’s hand, as well as getting others in bunkhouse such as Slim who carries power, was all in name of the dog, who being “all stiff with rheumatism” wouldn’t have had a good life in the lead up to his shooting as his health deteriorated, and it would have declined as the weeks and months past. The dog’s combined conditions were not only detrimental to itself but detrimental to the health of those in the bunkhouse who had to share close quarters with the canine. Carlson as an occupant of the small, tight, shared quarters was heroic in that the diseases the dog could very well have easily transferred to one of the workers and spread like wildfire throughout the farm. He went after Lennie for the same reason that he went after Candy’s dog. He believed Lennie was threatening to the farm rancher’s lifestyle.
The boss’ son. Temperamental. Curley is hard to view as a hero and likeable from a modern day perspective, but if we were to be transported back in time to the Great Depression with the same mindset and knowledge of the local lads at the time and gone through the same struggles to survive that they suffered, he would truly be considered heroic in his actions and dead-set revenge wish to get back at the one who had taken his wife from their world, a true 'manly' quality for that time period. Though he is constantly antagonistic of the fellow workers, believing himself to be above the others, with the possible exception of Slim, he was simply acting on his testosterone and the reactants or stressors in his life.
The strong and silent character of this novel is clearly Slim. Slim’s longtime role on the farm is being the jerkline skinner, the job of head mule skinner. Though on the farm his position commanded respect, his word taken for granted along with his authority on any subject, his personality was quiet, asking for no trouble, kind. His gentle temperament has a high chance of being one of the reasons he kept his bitch’s pups. Many in that time would have shot them or sold them off for anyone willing to buy them as it was hard times and men did what they could to get by. Although he joins the other men in the whorehouse, all have their flaws and weaknesses. True heroes care for all man and animal kind and treat them as equals. Both Slim and Carlson show this trait. Slim didn’t want to go after Lennie, but as he’s still just a worker on the ranch and could be fired at a moment’s notice. Our jerkline skinner didn’t retaliate when Curley went after him believing Slim was getting down and dirty with his wife behind his back, he defended the innocent Lennie who had no idea what he was doing.
The first to speak in Of Mice and Men was George calling Lennie’s name, trying to keep his companion from making himself sick. He became an unknown hero from the very moment in which he took on Lennie as his companion and cared for him after his Aunt Clara died. George himself laments in Chapter 1 on what he could do if he didn’t have Lennie weighing him down, though he almost regrets his monologue when he inwardly realises that no matter what he says to Lennie, no matter how often he rants and gets mad at Lennie, Lennie is never going to remember. George’s protectiveness of Lennie and valiant efforts to keep him out of trouble shows that he does care for Lennie and tries to keep him out of trouble, it’s just impossible to be guarding Lennie 24/7. In putting Lennie out of his misery, George saved him from the only other two possible options he had. Lennie could have gone away to jail to most likely face the capital punishment of death for killing another. His only other option would have been death by another rifle at the hands of Curley, tortured and murdered in cold blood. George’s actions saved from a world of pain, when he pulled the trigger on the Luger aimed at Lennie’s head, he in a way heroically saved his friend a world of pain and suffering. Took him away from impending misery once and for all.
The simple-minded and endearing abominable snowman from Looney Tunes is unforgettable when he picks up Daffy Duck and says “I will name him George, and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him.” The easily lovable snowman was based on this character, whose last name is ironic when you consider his physical frame. His physical frame definitely does not indicate his demeanour though. Lennie has his dreams and hopes for a better future just like any other of the other characters. He’s the most likeable thanks to his childlike simplicity which masks and hides nothing of his thought process from the world. His kindness and innocence show him as an unlikely hero if like many, we took each character at first glance and the levels of meanness shown by the others compared to the softness of Lennie.
Our subconscious’ automatically root for the best heroes, although not all are easily likeable at the first meeting, e.g Severus Snape in Harry Potter who we later learn held grudges toward Harry due to his parents actions and others misgivings around him. We as readers must learn to adapt our behaviour when reading, and not automatically jump to conclusions about characters and their ulterior motives before they have even finished a conversation.
