we have GOT to get weirder with arthurian retellings. david lowery and the slightly unsettling whimsy of his green knight is the only one that scratches this itch but i would like something even more rooted in magical realism and absurdism. i've been plagued with visions of arthurian characters living past their myth and becoming Something Else for months now... get into Morgan's necromancy more, the double Guinevere as a doppelgänger narrative, the whole deal with Merlin being entombed for years on end.

So I've tumbled back down the Trollhunters/Tales of Arcadia rabbit hole and I have to be honest, the Arcane Order doesn't make much sense to me. Mostly because they're missing a fourth element; water.

Usually when talking about elements of nature, especially from a fantasy/magical/mythological perspective, there are four elements. Earth, fire, wind, and water. Yet the Arcane Order, which is made up god like beings of the elements, only have three members. They are only three elements. And that seems so odd to me.

I can kind of understand if the creators were trying for a "power of three" thing with the Arcane Order, but that would make more sense if the Arcane Order represented something other than the elements. (At least it to me. I don't know about ya'll.)

Now another thing that make no sense to me is Nimue's (AKA the Lady of the Lake's) portrayal in Wizards. Why make her look like some kind of angler fish monster? She's an ancient goddess (of water I assume) that's older than the Arcane Order. She could have looked more impressive or goddess-like instead of monster-like. Then she only appears in Wizards. We don't see her again in Rise of Titans. Something she should have appeared in since the Arcane Order tried to destroy the world. A world where she lives. Something I'm sure she should have had a problem with. It feels like Nimue wasn't properly utilized in the series.

Now why would I mention the Arcane Order and Nimue in the same post? Well my ramblings come to this; I think it would have been neat if Nimue was a part of the Arcane Order or the creator of it (since its stated that she's older than the Arcane Order). She could fill in the role for the element of water within the Arcane Order. She could be known as "Nimue of the Dimensional Waters' or 'Nimue of the Enteral Waters' or 'Nimue the Originator of Water' or 'Nimue of the First Water' or something. That sounds like a much cooler concept to me.

We can take it a step further by having the other members of the Arcane Order, like Bellroc and Skrael, didn't like Nimue because of how she's kind to humans. (She did make Excalibur before Merlin imprisoned her, and she was willing to help humans out.) So they could have sealed Nimue away so that she wouldn't be able to interfere with their plans to destroy the earth and remake it.

So in order to stop the Arcane Order, the Guardians of Arcadia would have to seek Nimue out and free her from her seal. Afterwards, Nimue would help kick the Arcane Order's ass. And I bet that would better plot point in Rise of the Titans than what we got.

It looks so deadpan that it is almost funny. Especially considering that it is this guy.

I need you to understand that I find it rather funny. They chose to make Yousuke's chibi deadpan in BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, even though it's not how we see him.

Like why is he so deadpan? I need answers, please! It has it charm but it's also kind of a funny choice (to me).

Making Nimue's Dream Visitor in fact be how her dead foster mom Elva looked but she doesn't know that because amnesia but the Dream Visitor does indeed look familiar to her and elicit so many emotions in her that she can't pinpoint.

I’m a disabled, autistic woman in my 40s, and I love to ramble about 40k. And creating characters and scenarios. Often way more nsfw than the creators intended.

I particularly love Harlequins, Primarchs and Space Marines. Especially leaning into how inhuman they can be. Conversely I love characters getting the love and help they didn’t in canon.

Sevatar is my favorite. I love Night Lord humor. My own humor can be pretty black at times.
