having Troy as a partner would present a lot of problems, sure, like big emotions he can't quite process on his own, what he perceives as a threat, his little science experiments and hell, if someone dares to look at Nick in a way he doesn't like—be it with attraction or ill intentions—god help them.

but there are also things Nick wouldn't have to worry over, ever. Like if there's a weak spot in the fence? Troy's down there before the sunrise fixing it. Something in the pantry is getting alarmingly low? There's already plans to go loot a new location, he's not going to let Nick go without coffee or cigarettes even if he has to grow and grind the beans, and tobacco, himself. (though he'd rather Nick just stop all that shit, he can be easily persuaded to shut up) Troy doesn't get why taking care of the land, his home and Nick gets him praised because it's literally just in his nature to do what's necessary to survive, and survive well, at that. It doesn't really matter though, he doesn't need to understand why fixing a step Nick tripped over once or learning how to play some silly boardgame Nick loved as a kid makes him boyfriend of the year or whatever, just that he gets to keep making Nick happy.

Wizard of Oz is so iconic (no wonder we queers have loved it for over a century) because there is truly no funnier combination of found-family characters going on a quest than:

lots of heart, lots of bravery, a very flammable man all of 2 days old

lots of bravery, lots of intelligence, a living emotional rollercoaster with A+ Trauma

lots of intelligence, lots of heart, an apex predator with soul-crippling anxiety

an ordinary, barking, tiny dog in a world where all other animals talk

and their leader, a 12 year old girl from another world who doesn’t know where she is

I was thinking about DMT and DWW again and I just realized. How in god’s green Earth did she take the news about Gloria. All I can think of is that she’s like this one image the entire time Nick talks about it

ooh, is this about Ellie? god she really didn't do anything wrong. 'does nick even make it back to the agency' is an open-ended question, but i wrote ellie as like, a plucky adventure sidekick from a slightly lighter genre. like in the day-to-day she's saying 'jeepers!' while nick is poking at a mangled corpse with a stick. to answer your question, i think that picture about sums it up

Do you think the Wright Anything Agency has a sign that says 'It has been [X] days since Maya Fey was falsely accused of murder' hanging somewhere?

Like the Lawyer gang (+Trucy) are just sat around not really doing anything when all of a sudden Nick gets a phone call but the others just hear his side of the conversation which basically amounts to any combination of 'Yep. Okay. Got it.' followed by a 'Be right there.' before he hangs up, groans, and slowly walks over to the board and erases whatever number is up there and draws a big fat 0 in its place, gets his coat, and leaves without saying another word.
