Nachdem das Revier geklärt ist, beginnen die Blaumeisen mit der Wahl eines Nistplatzes. Als Brutplätze dienen ihnen, mit Moos, trockenen Halmen, kleinen Zweigen, Haaren und Federn ausgepolsterte Baumkronen, Baumspalten oder auch Baumhöhlen. Wenn das Nest fertiggestellt ist, wittert das Männchen seine Chance, fliegt über mehrere Tage Balzflüge und darf seine Partnerin, nachdem sie überzeugt ist, dann beglücken. Ab April beginnt die Brutzeit. After the territory has been clarified, the blue tits begin to choose a nesting site. Treetops, tree crevices or tree cavities padded with moss, dry straw, small twigs, hair and feathers serve as breeding grounds. When the nest is complete, the male senses his chance, flies courtship flights for several days and is then allowed to please his female partner after she is convinced. LITTLE SILK

This is Little Silk, she is a Bantam Silkie chicken. She is the only silkie/bantam that I have in my flock. She has wonky feet, 10 toes!This picture was taken because it was the first time I caught her in the nesting boxes. Why am I sharing this? Well, I entered a few pictures of my flock into a calendar contest for Hoover's Hatchery. About a month later on Dec. 8th I received an e-mail informing me that Little Silk had won the spot in the calendar for January!How Amazing! I was ecstatic! To say the least.This is still very exciting to me since I am currently still waiting to receive my calendar.My aunt, who is very into my chickens (especially Little Silk) and also excited about her win, ordered many calendars to hand out to our family and friends. Big stuff over here on The Huls House of Hen.

Looks like these two hens are going broody and there’s not much we can do to stop it! We kick them out of the nest all day long but by the end of the night, they end up in the same box together. The two pictures above are from different days. I guess we won’t be expecting eggs from these two through the winter. (at The First Best Thing Farms)
