August 27, 2024 - Kashmir Nuthatch (Sitta cashmirensis) Found in parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kashmir, and Nepal, these nuthatches live in hill and mountain forests. They eat insects, spiders, seeds, and nuts, foraging alone, in pairs, and in mixed-species flocks on tree trunks, large branches, fallen trees, logs, and mossy boulders. Breeding between April and June, depending on the area of their range, they nest in tree cavities, adding a layer of bark chips, seed husks, and dry leaves and often plastering the entrance with mud to reduce its size. Females lay clutches of five to seven eggs and both parents feed the chicks.

Clap for the Indian Flapshell Turtle!
The Indian flapshell turtle, also known as Lissemys punctata is a species of softshell turtle found throughout India, as well as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar. It prefers quiet, stagnant freshwater and muddy bottoms, and is most common in slow moving river and streams, marshes, ponds, lakes, and reservoirs. However, this species is also able to tolerate salt water to some degree, and therefore may also be occasionally found in salt marshes and estuaries.
L. punctata gets its common name from the leathery flaps of skin attached to its underbelly, which covers the limbs when they are drawn in and helps individuals retain moisture during the dry season. Female Indian flapshells are larger than males, with a maximum shell length of 35 cm (13 in) and a weight of up to 800 g (28.2 oz), while males reach a maximum of only 23 cm (9 in) and 550 g (19.4 oz). There are three subspecies of the Indian flapshell turtle which may be distinguished by the pattern on their shells. The nominal species, L. p. punctata and L. p. vittata both have smooth, dark brown or olive green shells, while L. p. andersoni has bright yellow spots along the head and back. The underbellies of all subspecies are typically white or pale yellow.
During the wet season, Indian flapshell turtles spend most of their time foraging for food. Their drab colouring allows them to hide easily along muddy bottoms or dense vegetation. L. punctata are opportunistic omnivores, meaning they will eat just about anything that they can find. They are known to feed on a variety of items, including aquatic vegetation, fish, shrimp, snails, crustaceans, mollusks, small mammals and amphibians, and carrion. Adults are predated upon by crocodiles; in the dry season, they may also be opportunistically predated upon by vultures, crows, and wild pigs, as this is when adults are more likely to either burrow into the mud to wait for rain, or move overland in search of water.
Nesting for L. punctata typically occurs at the start of the wet season and continues from June to November. Adult males seek out females and court them by stroking her shell with his flippers. If she is receptive, the pair mirror each other and bob heads before copulation. Afterwards, the female digs a nest close to the edge of the water and lays anywhere from 2-16 eggs. She may lay up to three clutches over the course of the wet season. Incubation typically takes 200-300 days, although some clutches may take up to 400 days to hatch.
Indian flapshell eggs are highly resistant to flooding, and may survive up to 24 hours of submersion. After hatching, the young are completely independent; survival is therefore quite low. Those that make it to adulthood begin reproducing at 2-3 years old, and may live to be up to 20 years.
Conservation status: The IUCN currently lists the Indian flapshell turtle as Least Concern, although recent studies have recommended the species be upgraded to Vulnerable. They are primarily threatened by hunting for meat and medicinal value, as well as poaching for the pet trade. Secondary threats include habitat loss or degredation and road moralities.

DELICATE✰ CHARLES LECLERC.
INTRO: who's y/n anyway? ew.
— the one where everyone tells you who are.
warnings: ignore the timestamps please, online harassment.
masterlist ✢ next
Soft jazz is playing in the living room of y/n y/ln's apartment in SoHo, with all the curtains pulled back the golden hour feels like a golden infinity. We're already in our second cup of coffee, a specialty brought from Veracruz, Mexico by y/n herself.
This is not our first meeting, y/n and I go back a few years, when the box-office hit 'Supercut' sent her straight into stardom and earned her a place in the public's heart. Since then, there has been no other way but up for the young star.
From humble beginnings and a list of failed castings, roles as an extra and endless photoshoots with stock images, y/n knows what it's like to work hard to achieve what you want.
"Sometimes, when I look back at my struggles I wonder what made the universe align in my favor. Hard work only gets you so far, I am incredibly lucky too." She says, eyeing the framed picture of the wrap-up day of her very first movie 'Loneliness', where she played the daughter of a struggling waitress.
"I was in about six scenes, but I couldn't have been more thrilled. It was the first time I felt like a real actress."
Of course, there are other aspects of her life where y/n is extremely fortunate. It has been two years since she started dating Asian-American hearthrob Aidan Kim. Looks like 'Supercut' really was her luckiest strike.
"We do like to keep some things to ourselves," y/n laughs after I ask her for an update on her relationship, I want to know the details behind the lovestagrams we get on a regular basis. "We love and respect each other deeply."
Night has fallen in SoHo and while y/n shuts the curtains, I take my surroundings in once again. A loveseat with a stain on the cushion, a coffee table that Aidan brought from a trip to Nepal where he filmed his newest project, framed pictures of the couple and their families crowd the room. This is the home they have built for themselves.
Some may argue that y/n's specialty are romantic comedies where she gets to play the doe-eyed love interest to the dark and handsome male protagonist, but y/n has her sights set on bigger things. An Oscar nomination, maybe?
"I have fun with the movies I make, but I do want to expand my horizons. I have so many ideas I want to try, I just need a shot to prove myself." She beams with hope, in an ideal world, type-casting wouldn't be a thing.
Speaking of tall, dark and handsome, just as we're about to wrap things up, the door to the apartment opens and Aidan Kim himself comes through bearing a bouquet of roses and bag of take out. A sheepish grin bursts through his face as he realizes the interruption, and does his best attempt to disappear, not before giving a proud thumbs up to his girlfriend. This peek into their private life is enough to see how much they love each other.
"Thank you so much for coming," y/n has been an excellent host this evening, and I am happy to leave her to attend to her love nest. "It was a pleasure."

O Que Podemos Fazer Para Ajudar?

Snow Leopards!1!1!!

Did you know snow leopards are more closely related to tigers than they are to leopards? How misleading!
Taxonomic Info
Uncia uncia (also sometimes referred to as Panthera uncia.)
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum : Chordata (animals that possess a notochord.)
Subphylum: Vertebrates (animals that possess a backbone or vertebrae.)
Class: Mammalia (mammals like us!)
Order: Carnivora (organisms that consume primarily meat.)
Family: Felidae (cats.)
Genus: Uncia (snow leopard.)
Geographic Range
Snow leopards are distributed throughout high mountain ranges in Central Asia, particularly the Himalayan mountain system. They have been found in Bhutan, Nepal, and the Siberian region of Russia. About 60% of their range occurs in China!
Habitat
Snow leopards live in temperate regions, and prefer to sleep in steep, rocky and broken terrain. Cliffs and ridgelines are also fair game. They live in elevations of 900 to 5500 meters or higher. (2952.76 ft - 18044.62). In winter, snow leopards migrate to lower elevations to follow their prey. They tend to generally avoid dense forest cover and cultivated fields.
Did you know snow leopards are referred to as "ghosts of the mountains" due to their reclusivity? Spooky!
Physical Description
One curious thing about snow leopards is how long their tails are! Their tails equal to roughly 75% to 90% of their total body length! These long tails are used for balance in their rocky and steep homes, and can also be used to cover their extremities in harsh winters. Their average weight is around 35 to 45 kg (77 lbs - 99 lbs). They have no pronounced sexual dimorphism, though males may be slightly larger in general. Snow leopards have characteristically large paws compared to other cats. These adorable large paws are an adaptation for walking on snow. They also have relatively long hind legs that are adapted for agility and jumping ability. Snow leopards have long and thick coats that shed twice per year, and yield a thicker coat during the winter. Their small rounded ears are an adaptation to minimize heat loss in their cold environments. In comparison to other cats, snow leopards have much larger nasal cavities, and smaller heads relative to body size.
Snow leopards can't actually roar, so they often chuff and make other calls instead!
Reproduction
Snow leopards are solitary, and do not associate with mates unless its mating season. Since it takes a long time to rear cubs, female snow leopards mate every 2 years. They are polygynous (males mate with more than one female.) in the wild, but some captive snow leopards are known to have become monogamous. After a pregnancy of about 90-105 days, a litter consisting of 2-3 cubs is born. (1 to 5 cubs can also occur.) They are born blind and in a warm nest made from their mothers underbelly fur. As most mammals, they feed on milk from their mother until they are about 5 months old. For roughly their first year of life, snow leopard cubs are dependent on their mother.
Did you know snow leopards cubs are undeniably adorable?
Lifespan
Since snow leopards are so hard to find and record, its difficult to determine their average lifespan in the wild. It's thought to be 10 to 12 years. Captive snow leopards have lived for up to 25 years, though the average is 18 years.
Behavior
Snow leopards are crepuscular, meaning they are most active at dawn and dusk. They are highly mobile and move from one location to another on a daily basis. Due to their elongated legs and large paws, they have excellent jumping abilities, and can climb pretty well. Their preferred method of hunting is to stalk and then ambush their prey from above, using rocky terrain and shrubby vegetation to conceal themselves. Snow leopards generally avoid one another, and mark travel lanes by using scent and scratches on trees.
Did you know snow leopards can jump as high as 50 feet? How acrobatic!
Food Habits
Snow leopards are active hunters, and are opportunistic predators. They are capable of killing animals more than three to four times their own weight, but will also settle for much smaller prey in harsher times. The primary prey species of snow leopards are blue sheep. Other prey species include ibexes, markhors, argali sheep, urials, Himalayan tahrs, serows, gorals, musk deer, wild boar, Tibetan antelope, Tibetan gazelles, goitered gazelles, wild donkeys, and wild yaks. Smaller prey include marmots, hares, pikas, voles, mice and birds. Snow leopards have few natural predators other than humans, though interspecific killing between leopards and snow leopards can occur.
Conservation Status
Snow leopards are endangered, and in the past 2 decades, populations of snow leopards are suspected to have declined by 20% due to habitat loss, prey loss, poaching, and persecution. They are commonly poached for their beautiful pelts and their bones. You can learn and help snow leopards here!: https://snowleopard.org
Personal Opinion
-Very pretty kitties -Love their coats -Adorable -10/10

The king cobra is a species of large venomous snake endemic to the Asian countries of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines. Despite its name and appearance, the king cobra is not a true cobra, but is instead the sole member of the genus Ophiophagus a sister clade to the cobra genus Naja. King Cobras are solitary diurnal creatures which inhabit forests, bamboo groves, mangrove swamps, and agricultural areas where they feed primarily upon other snakes but are also known to occasionally feed upon birds, small mammals, and lizards. King cobras are themselves occasionally killed and eaten by mongooses, honey badgers, certain birds of prey, and other king cobras. Reaching an average length of 9-13ft (2.75- 4m) with the largest known individual being 19.2ft (5.85m) long, the king cobra is the largest venomous snake on earth. The king cobra is not considered aggressive and usually avoids humans and slinks off when disturbed, but is known to aggressively defend incubating eggs and attack intruders rapidly. When alarmed, it raises the front part of its body, extends the hood, shows the fangs and hisses loudly. The king cobra's venom consists of cytotoxins and neurotoxins, including alpha-neurotoxins and three-finger toxins, which affect the victim's central nervous system, resulting in severe pain, blurred vision, vertigo, drowsiness, and eventually paralysis and cardiovascular collapse. As such bites from this species are medically significant and may result in a rapid fatality (less than 30 minutes) unless large quantities of antivenom are administrated. Breeding typically occurs from march to may, after mating the female will build a complex chambered nest out of leaf litter where see then lays 7 to 43 eggs. Which she then incubates for some 66 to 105 days. Under ideal conditions a king cobra may live around 20 years.

December 27, 2024 - Pale-headed Woodpecker (Gecinulus grantia) Found in parts of Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos, these woodpeckers live in forests and shrublands. They eat ants, beetle larvae, and other insects, foraging in pairs or family groups often on small tree trunks and large bamboo. Breeding from March to May, they excavate nest cavities in dead trees, decaying stumps, or bamboo where females lay clutches of three eggs.
