the old gods are dead. we killed them with learning, with curiosity, with understanding the world around us. in their place we built new gods, and oh, how cruel they are. we created Economy and Capital and Market Conditions, greedy and grasping. on their altars we sacrifice time. we sacrifice pleasure. we sacrifice our bodies, our health, our creativity, our ambition, our pride. the old gods are dead. the new gods know this, and they bend our necks to their purposes so that we will forget that they exist only because we created them.

Ruins of Roman Emperor Nero's 'Theatre' Unearthed in Rome
Archaeologists in Rome think they may have found Nero's theater during a hotel excavation.
Archaeologists in Rome think they may have found the ruins of Nero's theater, a first-century imperial performance space that was widely described in ancient Roman texts but whose whereabouts had remained largely elusive.
The theater is named after Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, who served as Roman emperor from A.D. 54 to his death in 68. Officials are calling the discovery of the theater, located just east of Vatican City, "exceptional." It was likely where Nero rehearsed poetry and put on musical performances, according to ABC News.
More than a millennium after his death, Nero remains one of ancient Rome's most infamous rulers, accused of playing his fiddle while the city burned to the ground during an epic fire. While much has been written about the atrocities and poor governance that occurred under his leadership — he allegedly killed his own mother and two wives and lavishly and indulgently spent Rome's money — he's also remembered as a lover of music and the arts, leading him to offer public performances at his theater, an act that the elite usually didn't partake in. He was particularly fond of playing the cithara, a portable harp-like instrument with seven strings.

But when the powerful Praetorian Guard, the force in charge of protecting the emperor, withdrew their support of him, he reportedly took his own life, uttering "what an artist dies in me!"
Researchers unearthed a variety of artifacts scattered among the building's ruins. These included seven ornate medieval glass chalices, segments of bone used to carve out rosary beads, clay pots and urns, cooking vessels for baking bread, coins, combs constructed out of bone and numerous pieces of musical instruments. As for the remaining architectural elements of the theater itself, archaeologists unearthed marble columns and plaster decorated in gold leaf, according to ABC News.

"It is a superb dig, one that every archaeologist dreams of," Marzia Di Mento, the site's chief archaeologist, told reporters during a news conference, according to ABC News. "Being able to dig in this built-up, historically rich area is so rare."
The discovery came about as construction crews were working on reconfiguring Palazzo Della Rovere, a medieval palace, into a new luxury hotel, and was found buried beneath the structure's walled garden, according to The Associated Press.

Artifacts from the excavation will be put on display and added to a "city-run public databank to add to the wealth of information gathered over the years on life in Rome throughout the centuries," according to ABC News.
Archaeologists plan to rebury the theater once excavations wrap up.

Nero is famous for starting a fire in Rome and then "fiddling" while the city burnt, even though things almost certainly didn't happen that way.
There were four different films made of Quo Vadis, a novel by Polish author Henryk Sienkiewicz. Here's the poster from the 1913 version:
Despite its historical inaccuracy, the image of a ruler fiddling while Rome burned has been too delicious for satirists to pass up, as in this 1770 cartoon mocking George III:
Much more on the burning of Rome below:

Joey Shagoury is an undergraduate at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he studies world politics.
Roman Emperor Nero could only have dreamt of being as out of touch with the “peasantry” as Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. Nero, for his credit, actually watched Rome burn from his palace. Bass took a tropical vacation to Ghana, while Los Angeles was torn asunder.
Ghana’s critical importance to Los Angeles remains unseen, but for us peasant folk, we are not capable of understanding the multifaceted mind of Bass and the Democratic Party elite. The people of Los Angeles do not seem to understand either as they criticize and question their duly selected commissar.
Expecting water in your fire hydrants or firefighters who can lift a two hundred pound man are bourgeois questions that can only come from the problematic privileged middle class. These concerns must be ignored and put aside. The tastemakers at the DNC think it is far more important to attend the Ghanaian inauguration to virtue signal rather than to govern. At least California’s Governor Newsom was in state, but he too failed at answering questions or effectively managing the fires.

Can we believe a word he says?
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-project-2025-russell-vought-brendan-carr-b2650943.html

The US is a representative democracy, a Republic and many say Empire simultaneously. Is this the part where the democracy part dies as we turn into full on empire with emperors instead of presidents? Is this going to be the Rome burns moment for America? I sure hope not, but the writing is on the wall! Notice how Elon and Trump are both retweeting videos depicting themselves living in the Roman Empire or showing scenes of soldiers riding into battle during the crusades. 😣 Also Trump has made posts comparing the movement to Nazis. Does Trump not know about the Nero fiddling while Rome burned legend? 🤔 In this first video link on X below, the girl who is singing (Emma Kok) has disavowed whoever made it, making it look like she’s endorsing MAGA and Trump!

My MAGA friend is trying to convince me only OAN, Newsmax and Fox should be trusted on Project 2025! And everything below is “false and misleading” 🤔 It sounds like those who believe this are parroting Trump’s fake news line, that the free press is the “enemy of the people,” which started out as 80%, but has since moved up to a whopping 90%!
The free press called out corruption throughout every election I’ve voted for including democrat and republican, and MAGA wants me to believe they’ve all of a sudden turned to spreading lies, because of a “witch hunt” as Trump says. 😣 extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence! Makes more sense these people reporting the news are doing their job, no matter how upset that makes MAGA and Trump!

The death knell of American education rings louder with every passing day, an apocalyptic symphony heralding the collapse of civilization itself. January approaches not as a new year but as a grave marker for knowledge, for curiosity, for the very idea that a future might still exist.
Schools, those hallowed institutions where the fragile torch of enlightenment has burned for centuries, will crumble into nothingness under the weight of authoritarian hubris. Trump, a modern-day Nero, does not merely fiddle while Rome burns; he actively fans the flames, his every breath a gale-force wind of ignorance. He will shutter the doors of every classroom, silence the laughter and questions of children, and plunge us into a new Dark Age.
Imagine it: libraries torn down, their shelves raided for firewood; chalkboards left blank, monuments to a bygone era when truth still had meaning. The halls where history was taught will echo only with the whispers of despair, and the knowledge we once held dear will decay into folklore, told around campfires by the few who dare to remember.
Without schools, America becomes a land of illiteracy and superstition. We will barter for food with crude symbols etched in dirt. Children will apprentice not to teachers but to desperation itself, learning only the arts of survival and submission. Science will rot, replaced by mysticism; democracy will dissolve, for it cannot thrive without an educated populace.
This is the end we are racing toward: as if the year 1337 reborn in the ashes of progress. But worse, for unlike the people of that distant time, we had light and chose darkness. We had schools and chose to destroy them.

Hi I'm curious what would you define as "postmodernism" and "degenerates". just curious
Postmodernism:
This is a political ideology characterized by the idea that everything is subjective, everything is a social construct, all knowledge is created by humans so therefore there is no real concept of truth. In general, I have a very negative opinion of this ideology because it has a tendency to isolate people both from each other and from themselves. It obfuscates and deconstructs everything to the point where vaguely defined ideas (that can’t really even be defined, because under postmodernism, everything is subjective) take precedence over material reality.
I know that’s a lot to chew on, but I’ll illustrate why I dislike this line of thinking through a few examples.
You’ve probably heard people say things like “race is a social construct” and similar; this is postmodernist thinking. And while that’s technically true in the sense that how we define race is somewhat subjective based on visible traits rather than actual genetic difference (did you know that there is so much genetic diversity in the continent of Africa that two Africans from tribes who historically lived within miles of each other can be more genetically different than an African and a European?), dismissing the concept of race is dangerous because it also dismisses racism. Sure, maybe the way we classify race is flawed. But that doesn’t change the fact that very real and very dangerous oppression based on race has and still is occurring worldwide. The same is true for oppression based on sex, ability, sexual orientation, etc. We have to acknowledge material reality to address these forms of oppression, and postmodernism won’t do this because it’s too fixated on trying to prove that the concepts of race/sex/sexuality/ability/etc. aren’t real.
Another example is the concept of moral relativism. Since postmodernists believe everything is subjective, they don’t believe in universal moral standards. Which is dangerous—because this is how you get people defending things like incest, rape, and pedophilia. They will often argue that not every culture has the same standards (nevermind that in regions where such things are still legal, feminists are advocating against them just like they did/are in the west) and therefore it isn’t immoral to rape, legalize child marriage, etc.
Postmodernists also tend to be extremely individualistic. Everything is about them and what makes them feel good—who cares about how their actions affect anyone else. They focus their energy inward and are obsessed with personal identity to the point of micro-analyzing everything about themselves, rather than focusing energy outward and connecting with other people and the world around them.
In general, it strikes me as a very narcissistic mindset that is fundamentally detached from reality and real world struggles. I think it’s so prevalent on the internet especially because it’s appealing to people who want to live in a fantasy rather than engage with the world in a meaningful way, and recognize that their actions have consequences both to themselves and the people around them.
Degeneracy:
I feel like the way I use this word is different from how many other people do, but it me, it represents the ultimate mindset of hedonism and selfishness. In my mind, a degenerate is a person who prioritizes their own pleasure above all else, even the suffering of real people. Nero fiddled while Rome burned, basically.
I would call a person who abandons their family in a time of crisis to go on vacation a degenerate. I would call a parent who takes money that was supposed to be for their kids’ college fund and gambles it away a degenerate. I do consider porn use degeneracy, because it’s common knowledge at this point that the industry is fueled by rape and human trafficking and there is no way to guarantee the content you’re consuming isn’t that—you simply don’t care, because a few minutes of pleasure is more important than widespread abuse and suffering (especially given the violent nature of most internet porn, you’re literally deriving pleasure from the pain and suffering of a real human being). And on the flip side, I also consider conservative trad men degenerates—because they’re perfectly fine with treating another human being as a slave if it means creating this archaic fantasy life they have in their heads.

Back to the theory that the statements follow greek myths.
I thought the forth episode didn't fit the theory but it really does.
Initially, I thought it follows Nero's story playing fiddle as Rome burns and completely disregarded the myth of Marsyas and Apollo because I didn't think it fit the story.
But I reread the myth and it really does.
A small detail that I had fogotten is that the the flute in the story previously belongs to Athena but she doesn't want it anymore and curses the instrument and throws it away then a mortal picks it up and challenges the litteral god of music in a music competition.
(Also Athena is the goddess of knowledge so could be associated with the eye and very famously spiders.)
The story keeps with the theme of change because the violonist just like Marsyas wants to ascend to a higher status that is imposible to achive to begin with.
So all four episodes so far pretty closely follow a specific myth that either means that it's a consious decision that they made or that those stories are so deeply ingraned to thw collective consiousness that it just happened?
They way the stories are written follow all the tenets of a greek tragedy of hubris, atis, nemesis and tisis.
They want something that goes against the natural laws of the world, overestimationg their power, skill etc.
Atis the victim commits some type of mistake leading to their own doom.
Nemesis here is some type of intervention by the entities that we see from the perspective of the victim where there is some type of either punishment or wish dullfilment that ends terribly.
And tisis where the victim is seeing the consequences to their own actions maybe even death.
and they seem to consistently fail the catharsis.
#the magnus protocol#tmagp#tmagp spoilers#tmagp speculation#tmagp theory#tmagp greek mythology#its all four episodes it cant be by chance
