he appears as though he was born twenty-nine years ago but is actually twenty-nine, he is a faerie who lives in mystic grove as the owner of the secret garden, and is in no fantasy. he looks an awful lot like harry styles.

Oliver was born to a faerie mother and a human father, although he knows little to nothing about his mother. He grew up in the human world, and has only returned to the fae realm once. He found it an unfamiliar landscape, and although it was pleasant being around a community that understood him so deeply, he yearned to return to his life and the people he knew in the human world, so he came home. He hasn’t returned, but plans to visit again eventually. 

He was essentially raised by his father, who did his best, but wasn’t a particularly good caregiver. He had never really wanted to have children, and so bringing Oliver up was more like a chore than a pleasure. He loved Oliver, but their relationship was quite unconventional, and Oliver was put to work around the house from a very young age. They lived on the outskirts of Greywood, and relied heavily on town amenities. 

Oliver always knew he was a faerie, that wasn’t something his father hid from him (and besides, the pointed ears sort of gave him away), but whenever he asked about his mother and what she was like, his father would get angry and then go silent, refusing to answer any of his questions. 

At the age of 19, he realised that he was pansexual, and plucked up the courage to tell his father. He had anticipated that his father wouldn’t be thrilled, but he was absolutely furious, more angry than Oliver had ever seen him, and he disowned Oliver right there and then on the spot, and fled Greywood. Oliver hasn’t seen him or heard from him since. He was devastated, and had never felt more alone. He ended up starting a relationship which he poured all his energy into, but after two years of being together, they left him in the middle of the night just like his father had, with no explanation and no further contact. Then came Elenora.

Oliver and Elenora had been at school at the same time, and knew each other’s faces from around town. They were never in the same class together given that Oliver is a year younger, but they were drawn to each other from day one. Despite not really having much of a friendship with her, Oliver was bereft when Elenora left for College, and when she returned from her studies, he promised himself he’d make an effort to get to know her.

The pair became friends quickly, bonding over their disappointing fathers and absent mothers, and they both opened up to each other about their fluid sexualities, supporting and encouraging one another to step into who they each truly were. Eventually, they ended up together when Oliver was 26 and Nelly was 27, and their relationship was passionate and fiery. They loved each other deeply, although neither of them ever made the move to make things official, despite spending most nights together for the better part of a year. They were both terrified of commitment, and Oliver didn’t want to be abandoned yet again. 

Things changed when Elenora accidentally got pregnant, and the pair were just beginning to talk about making their relationship a little more official when she tragically miscarried. Both were grief-stricken, and Elenora had made up her mind that Oliver only wanted to commit to her because of the baby, so after a tense month of trying to reconcile, the pair ended things for good. They are amiable with each other now, and Oliver is still in love with her, but they haven’t spent any time together since ending things. 

Now, Oliver owns his own little floristry, and is quiet content living in Greywood, but he is determined to find out more about his mother.

“I suppose that is true,” he responded with a light nod.  “Yes, it has been interesting to say the least.  Norma has a proclivity to find trouble, truly she is talented.”  Thaddeus somewhat jokes.  There have been several times she had been called into the school for the young girl’s behavior.

“Completely understandable, I barely have time for the gardening club.  But I try to do at least two hours a week if I am able.”  Being a single parent was hard and although he had wonderful friends and an incredible sister, ultimately he was responsible for Norma and she took a huge portion of his time outside of his job.

It made sense, perhaps he would enjoy this place.  Being a nervous nelly, he wasn’t sure he would enjoy it.  However, he did it mainly for Norma so she could grow and be more social.  “So, what do you do for a living?  Been in Greywood your whole life?”  He questioned, trying to be social.

"Well we are busy all of the time and I just try not to think about that," she laughed as they watched the children play, "It's easier to manage if you don't think about it, I suppose. So did Norma start school this year then? That had to be hard on Dad. How are you doing with it?"

It was typical that someone in town knew the name. Usually it was her parents with as popular as they were but her brother was also very well known. "Yes, he's my brother. Honestly I'm supposed to be a part of that club too but I haven't been since the kids were born. Scheduled just get out of control, you know how it is."

"Mostly, they are for this," she shrugged and crossed her arms as they spoke. A subconscious need to protect herself, "Kids make friends everywhere they go so socializing them is easier than people think but as parents," she shrugged, "We forget to talk to other adults sometimes. It's nice to know we aren't alone out here."

Hello Soso! Thank you so much for the ask!

And for a little fun- why I don’t I do the one that I wrote for Mason and Nelly!- I Prefer You Before All! I adore writing for a more, genuine, sweet detective with Mason even though my detective for him is definitely not any of those things haha!

⭐ I said this in the actual post, but I did plot all of these out before the demo got released. I thought a date at Haley’s would be a cute idea to write about, to which it was actually inspired by your ask about what kind of drink she preferred haha! I was not prepared for what actually happened with the bakery scene, so let this be what we all wished happen instead of what actually did haha!

⭐ “You’re always so goddamn nice about things”, Mason almost chuckled, and she gave him a wide grin in response to that, not knowing what to say to that as the feeling of bliss seemed to fill her chest, his last moment of hesitation nearly forgotten.

“Well, thanks?”, Nelly finally managed to say, suddenly extremely aware of the rosy blush on her cheeks, and then a rare streak of boldness pushed through, “Was that a compliment?”  

“Take it as one, sweetheart”, he said, giving her an almost half-smile, and the gently moved closer to her, the tension that was in his shoulders since they walked in seeming to fall away.

This is probably my favorite exchange in the whole fic, and I absolutely adored writing it! This would have been very different if it was Mari I was writing for, and writing soft M in any way is something that I love as well! Hopefully this stayed true to Nelly here! :)

⭐ “On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur, l’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux”               It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye. 

I absolutely love Nelly’s tattoo, and I spent quite a long time trying to make sure I had the most accurate as possible English translation, and then I realized just how well it actually fit with her route, and I had to include it! It is such a good quote! :D
