I need to find that post I made a while back about unreliable and dishonest women being abused because it's relevant here. Gaiman doesn't just target vulnerability for control; it's also practical. Even though very few women lie about rape, if a woman is known for lying generally or for having memory problems, or hallucinating false scenarios and a man rapes her, who's going to believe her? Look what Gaiman tried to say about the first two victims who came forward, that the one regretted it and the other remembered wrong.
This is also why I urge you to listen carefully when a man disputes a rape allegation. Don't focus on the details he disputes--trauma victims commonly mess up details and people who are prone to lying generally will probably make some up. But what is he saying did happen? He's trying to put holes in her story, but what is his really? Early on Neil Gaiman confessed to having sex with two women who were both employee and tenant to him. That was rape to begin with. He had a number of women sign NDAs after sexual encounters with him. Why? Why would a consensual encounter need that? And he's not the only one. Lots of rapists do this. Don't fall for it.

Remember that story in the Sandman were the Author is given a muse by another author and he rapes and abuses her well maintaining a public persona of a writer of mind-bending fiction and strong female characters and at a party describes himself as a feminist Author before going home to abuse a woman?
Their are other Neil Gaimen stories that you can certainly read into now that the revelations about his sexual abuses have come out. But that one feels especially stark now.

girl neil gaiman has ALWAYS put me off — not in a “i could magically tell he’d turn out to be a rapist” way because that’s not how that works (though this is not the first time he’s had allegations against him, and i for one don’t need everyone else on board before i believe women) — but i literally do not get why people are like … so personally shocked it could be him. even if we ignore everything disturbing he has said about women, children, and sex, both in his writing and on his own, like at the very least, this is 1) a man 2) with money fame and power, and i thought by 2025 we were generally on the same page that there is always a real possibility that these men have used/will use their power to exploit or abuse women.
I think any self-confident and experienced grown woman (not even especially old) would agree with you. In fact, i've looked around a bit and apparently some women reported being told to stay away from him at cons. But that's the thing, he didn't look for women like us, did he? He targeted women who were inexperienced, fragile and/or isolated, as his type does.
I really encourage everyone to actually listen to the Tortoise podcast. There is a bit where you hear him talking to the last girl he abused, Scarlett, about "feeling still suicidal but staying strong" (i'm paraphrasing) after she in his words "tried to metoo" him. Two of the women say at first they weren't even attracted to him, he promised to one of them that he'd get her to meet David Tennant if she showed him her tits. He really is just a common loser. It brings me some consolation that his best defense for everything these poor women accuse him of is going to be that he didn't mean to rape them and is just a terrible fuck. He's so self-absorbed and pretentious that having to confess that will assuredly sting.

I will metion Neil Gaiman here and what he did to other women, so if you dont want to read about rape and assault please skip reading this one. The first bi female celebrity I discovered and liked was Amanda Palmer. I was a young teenager then and thought I was a lesbian. When I figured out that I was bi some time later, I didn't have any issues with it, partly because I knew cool celebrity bi women like Amanda Palmer. I loved her music, I found her attractive. I really liked her. I discovered that I prefered girls and decided to only date women and had two wonderful relationships. I was raped by a man after my last one. Amanda Palmer was also raped and assaulted and talked about it in interviews and songs. It took time to heal but after some years, I wanted to date again, so I tried dating apps. I met some really cool bi and lesbian women. But I also encountered a few bi (and maybe heterosexual) women who were fishing for their male partners. One time, I almost got raped by a man again because of one of them. One time, another bi woman confessed her love to me and made out with me only to reveal that her partner wanted to fuck me. One woman sent a picture of me to her male partner to determine if her having sex with me would turn him on. All of that hurt a lot. I stopped using dating apps a few years ago and have just been meeting women organically through shared interests or in real life. I just read an article about Neil Gaiman and the horrible things he did to a lot of women. His ex wife, Amanda Palmer knew about most, if not all of it. She sent him pictures of a young woman she had sex with and basically gave her away as a toy to her husband. I can't really describe what I'm feeling. I am not shocked because I never liked Gaiman and a lot of his work basically tells you what kind of person he is. I can't be shocked over what Palmer did either because she was with this man for years and found him attractive in the first place. I think it makes me feel more empty than upset. I didn't listen to her music for years, I don't think I even follow her anywhere on social media. Sometimes I maybe hum "map of tasmania" to myself in the shower. I think a tiny part in me was still a teenager who put her, at least as an artist, on some kind of pedestal. She is just like one of those women from the dating apps now. Disappointing. It makes me glad that I never followed in her footsteps with a lot of things, that I am gender critical and that I chose to only date women. Not sure where to go with this but I wanted to get this off my chest.

We're talking about the accusations of a "TERF conspiracy". We're talking about the people screeching then and now "b-but my show!" We're talking about the people acting like Neil Gaiman admitting to fucking his employee/tenant wasn't a rape confession. We're talking about the people claiming there were zero signs in his work or behaviour that he was a predator. And we're talking about the rape myths "well in her texts she says it was consensual!" "well she did have mental problems and might have made things up" etc. that people were bringing up as if such myths haven't been explained and debunked for decades.
Maybe some of you did take it seriously without making it about your show, without considering a possible "TERF conspiracy", without thinking an employer/landlord with an employee/tenant could possibly be consensual, without claiming there was nothing ever suspicious about the way Gaiman wrote about women and girls or how he encouraged parasocial relationships, and without buying into tired rape myths. Good for you! But the people above were very loud about it.
The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley used to be my favourite book. Then I learned what she did to her daughter and other children. I dropped her. Immediately. I didn't imagine a conspiracy, I didn't make it about me, I didn't whine about it, I recognized things in her writing that I could no longer stomach as fiction, and I stopped recommending the book.
That has not been the overall reaction of Gaiman's fans (or even non-fans I've personally argued with). That's what we're frustrated with, and I think it's pretty telling that you're more concerned with that than the large number of people who refused to believe it or made it about themselves, some who still do.
I'm annoyed as hell with all the radfems screeching that no one took the Neil Gaiman accusations seriously until now when that's absolutely not true???? People were shocked and devastated months ago when the news dropped. A video essay called "when your hero is a monster" was released a month BEFORE the more "official" news came out and corroborated the stories.
He'd already gone silent on tumblr, his main social media, because people were turning against him.
Good god, the need to complain truly does always outweigh reality with these so-called "feminists" who really couldn't give less of a shit about the victims and their treatment.

cryptiboy’s “I’m a little too excited for Halloween” Book Rec List
With October fast approaching and my love of books flaring back up, I thought I would make a list of some of my favorite books of all time. Not all of these books are horror (per-se), but I think they are all rather good. All of them should be rather funny, to say the least, and are all big contributors to my sense of humor.
Title: Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Author: Douglas Adams
Ah yes, we will start with a classic. Although I’m sure many of you have heard of this, I know it’s possible a few of you haven’t. If you like snarky banter, questionable morals, and weird ass british optimism in the face of death, or even if you just like a good sci-fi read, this book is definitely for you. Side note: this is part of a full series, and I recommend enjoying it fully. You may think it ends at So Long And Thanks For All The FIsh, but buddy, there’s still more books as well as multiple tv show and radio adaptations (none of which are exactly the same btw, just as the author intended).
Title: Going Bovine
Author: Libba Bray
It has been a while since I last read this book, so this summary won’t be as meaty, but if you want to see a delightful depiction of a harmless fuckboy and his dream girl (as well as a couple other great characters) going on zany adventures while he slowly dies, this is your stop. Oh yeah, and also: mad cow disease and garden gnomes. When I say wild ride, I mean wild ass ride.
Title: Horns
Author: Joe Hill
Either you know this book/movie adaption intimately, or have no idea what I’m talking about. (You know, with Dan Radcliffe? There we go.) With themes of good vs. evil, what it means to be evil or good, morals, religious imagery (heavy on the religion), and love, I could not even begin to start a trigger warning list for this book even if I tried. Severe trigger warning for rape though, I’ll tell you that. If you’re tired of all your beloved characters being nice and perfect, try out having all of your beloved characters be assholes who are each steeped in their own sins and vices. I promise it has funny parts.
Title: May Bird and the Ever After
Author: Jodi Lynn Anderson
But wait, you cry! This is a kids book! And I tell you this: sometimes kids books are just kids books, but sometimes they hold valuable subtext and lessons we can still learn and grow from. We follow a young girl who ends up in the land of the dead after chasing after her best friend and pet cat. Her cat is kind of an asshole, but you love him anyway. We also learn that death isn’t the scariest thing that can happen to you. If you want a relatable character with very real world problems dealing with them therapeutically in a semi-horror fantasy setting, hop on in, kiddo.
Title: The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight In Heaven
Author: Sherman Alexie
I have a confession to make: I still have not gotten around to reading this book in full yet. But between reading snippets and watching the film multiple times, I can guarantee this read is worth your time. It may seem like a standard coming of age story, but it also has a lot of really, really great undertones and subtext, as well as fabulous world-building, bonding moments (and not so bonding moments) and character development. Besides, it’s Sherman Alexie, who is brilliant.
Title: M is for Magic
Author: Neil Gaiman
You may be surprised to see that my Gaiman pick isn’t a novel. In fact, I find that a lot of people, even Gaiman fans, have never heard of M is for Magic before. My friend, welcome to the short story collection made of dreams. Composed of 11 short stories ranging from pleasant and fantastic to sending you those wonderful shivers, you may find a few familiar faces. Includes October In The Chair and How To Talk To Girls At Parties. Honestly, I cannot suggest this read enough. Despite its horror/thriller nature, it is still kid friendly (sometimes certain things are only scary to adults, as you may soon find out).
Title: The Thief Lord
Author: Cornelia Funke
Another one I’m sure you’ve heard of if you know anything about fantasy novels, but if you haven’t, I’m kind of jealous that your first time experiencing it will be as an adult. This was probably the first book ever read to me, as it was for many other kids, because it’s just that good. An escapism fantasy set in Venice, Italy that goes beyond too far. There’s mysterious magic, a band of rough, rowdy and lovable orphans, a very tired detective, a greedy old man with dubious morals, and in the center of it all, tying it together, is the young thief lord.
Title: Everything’s Eventual
Author: Stephen King
Another book of short stories, you say? Yes, I say, because maybe I enjoy short stories. Or maybe I haven’t gotten around to reading many King novels but I wanted to include him anyway. Some of the stories I’m not as fond of, but it’s more of a preference thing more than anything. If you like horror, I can promise there is at least one short story in here for you. Also, has a short snippet of The Dark Tower.
Title: A Night In The Lonesome October
Author: Roger Zelazny
Another book that I haven’t read recently, but is a classic in my immediate family. Follow a loyal dog as October draws near and he and his master must figure out who is friend or foe, who the players are, and whether the gates will open or close. As you read, you will be surprised to find more than a few familiar faces in this dark, gloomy London setting.

A Crack in the Wall
by Inappropriateggplant
There were many things Aziraphale knew by heart: the words in every rendition of the bible that he could get his hands on, the smell of old books and how to bring a smile on someone's face when their spirits were low.
What he didn't know was how to respond when Gabriel looked dead in his eye and said, "Crowley desires you, Aziraphale. There's a corruption, a disgusting lust in his heart, and he may act on it if you get too careless. He might even try to take you by force."

Since the world didn't end Aziraphale has been hoping for things to move to the next level with Crowley. But every time he tries to get close, the demon seems to shy away. Aziraphale begins to think that maybe Crowley just isn't attracted to him that way. He decides, against his friend Anathema's advice, to try witchcraft as a way of making himself more confident, attractive, and desirable. It, of course, goes wrong, because the angel misses the footnote that warns him not to mix magic and alcohol.
