Many thanks to @calaisreno for the prompt that got me writing the story that's been rattling around in my head for a few weeks.
John Watson has been invalided home from Vietnam and is desperately trying to keep Watson's Tri-State Trucking, the family business, solvent. As he travels across New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, he notices a slender stranger. Late one night, they meet.
Prompt for May 1: Open
Everything ached. Everything from his shoulder to his big toe. The ache in his shoulder was dull and heavy. John tried stretching his neck from side to side to loosen it; experience told him it would be useless to try rotating the joint itself. The ache traveled down his arm in buzzy pulses that pierced his elbow and froze his ring and middle fingers. Lifting his hand from the steering wheel, he shook it violently before rhythmically squeezing it into a fist and releasing it.
Harder to bear was the burning pain from buttock to toe. No matter how many times he shifted his weight from one cheek to the other, the pain was constant. Ten miles outside of Binghamton his thigh began to throb. Just a little farther, he thought. Get to a truck stop or rest area, someplace populated and he’d catch forty winks. The lost time would be better than driving his rig off a bridge in desperation.
On the far side of Binghamton he pulled into a truck stop, parking well away from the other semis. After a quick trot to the head, he swallowed two aspirins with a swig from his flask and settled down in his bunk. The aptly named coffin sleeper provided just enough room to pull off his boots and shimmy out of his jeans before pulling the blanket over himself, but he didn’t care. His rig was paid for—much as he admired the newer Peterbilts with their fancy cabs that were as well-appointed as a Newark studio apartment, the 1962 Mack belonged to Watson’s Tri-State Trucking one hundred percent and only needed the occasional bit of doctoring and prayer.
Two days on the road with minimal breaks—the client in Buffalo paid a bonus for early delivery—meant John was exhausted. Despite the pain, he was asleep in minutes. His dreams were painless, pleasant, in fact. He was two-stepping ‘round the dance floor at the Bluebonnet, feet sliding on the smooth wooden floor, slow-slow, quick-quick. He swayed in sync with the music and his hips moved easily. Slow-slow, quick-quick. His partner was vague, as happens in dreams, but he didn’t care. His body felt loose, moving to the music—some cover band playing classic hits--and his partner was gracefully leading him around the floor. The hips beneath his hands were slender and their gentle motion filled him with a tingling that was the opposite of pain. Together they moved in perfect harmony like a set of well-matched horses at the county fair. Slow-slow, quick-quick. A welcome warmth surged below his waist and he pulled his partner closer. John threaded fingers through his partner’s belt loops to tug their bodies closer, allowing him to feel a bulge there, matching and meeting his own. Slow-slow, quick-quick. As he dug his hips against theirs, his partner came into focus; not a woman, but the man from the truck stop. Dark curls, sharp cheekbones, pale skin, cupid bow lips. A little closer and he could kiss that plush mouth.
Suddenly, the twangy music was overpowered by the screeching whine of artillery.
“Incoming!” John yelled as he pulled the stranger off the dance floor.
Cover, they needed cover. John scanned the bar for a table, an alcove, anywhere that might provide shelter. This was a complete clusterfuck—his head ached from the constant whine of missiles and the acrid stink of explosives. The dance floor was littered with spent shells and disembodied limbs. John pulled on the stranger’s arm, sending them both skating through the slick of blood covering the smooth wooden boards. His eyes were watering now, his nose dripping from the smoke and the smell of burning flesh. This is it—this is how he’ll go home, another body bag, another nameless number on the evening news— He is shaking, huddled on the floor with a stranger in his arms because there is no escape, unless….Unless this were a dream, if he were dreaming, he could wake up. Wake up, he willed himself, wake up, dammit…wake the fuck up, asshole!
He shut his eyes and covered his head with his arms—he owed it to Harry, to Dad, to at least try to survive—
“You’re all right,” soothed a resonant voice.
“It’s not all right,” John heard himself say, “it will never be all right…”
Cold. He was cold despite being soaked in sweat.
“Yes, I know,” the voice answered, “but you are all right.”
There was a hand on his back, firm and steadying. Whoever was with him was close enough that he could smell the coffee and peanuts on his breath. John found himself matching his own breaths to those of this nameless, faceless companion. He didn’t realise how disordered his breathing had been until it slowed into an ordered rhythm. In, two, three, out, two, three. Slow, slow, slow.
“That’s it. Breathe. Good.” The strong hand traced circles on his back in time to their respirations.
John squeezed his eyes tightly shut before opening them. The world around him came into focus. It was night—he was in his truck—the 1962 Mack that his father had paid off before he died—tangled in his blanket. Kneeling on the driver’s seat was the stranger he’d seen in Gouldsboro and Norristown and Buffalo.
“What…how’d,” John croaked, he swallowed hard and tried again, “what are you, how did you get into my truck?”
“Hanger,” the man said, “left your window rolled down enough to work it through, which makes sense given the temperature and humidity this evening, but you might want to consider a different sleeping arrangement if you are opposed to uninvited guests. An inch and half of space is an open invitation, although I wouldn’t have taken you up on it if you hadn’t been screaming your head off. I rather thought you were being attacked, but now I reckon it was just a nightmare.”

an idea i had was nhl!ranger reader is like fairly aggressive, yeah?
like she’s had to hold her own, and prove her own bc she’s a woman.
but against this one team, she’s absolutely brutal.
and maybe it stems from her old rivalry with one of the players, OOOH OR MAYBE one of the players almost ended her career in juniors??
i made a new player up for the sake of this being friendly for people who cherish the usa wjc players however they play for the hawks just cause.. she’d so have a vendetta against the hawks idk i feel like she’d despise them
like she’s just here to serve cunt, fuck shit up and curse a bitch out
also, i picture charlie with a scar in the front of her eyebrow, like where the hair still grows straight rather than to the side, due to where her injury was
this…. turned into a full fic. blame my perfectionism and incessant research, idk. there’s also minimal jack which is why the title is njd
the full story | hooked au, njd
u-20 world juniors, december 26, 2019. preliminary rounds
line brawls were your forte. not only were they fun, and usually harmless, but they also gave you a chance to prove that your physicality wouldn’t be an issue if you got drafted to an nhl team.
in a canada vs usa game, the rivalry usually called for some penalty minutes
currently, your helmet was nowhere to be found, your gloves were voluntarily discarded, and your nose was bloody.
you’d concentrated on keeping the us players away from nico, and the guy who’d originally slid into the net and tripped him had taken most of your attention.
tyler shaw- a bigger centre who’d been drafted to chigaco the year prior.
you were holding up fairly well, until he took a stray stick off the top of the net and used it to shove your hand off his jersey.
you slid, turning so your back was facing him, and he cross checked you in the back of the neck, sending you forward and face first into the goal post.
a final time, he did the same near your shoulder blades, effectively keeping you down on the ice.
the room was spinning and the lights were too bright for your liking- you felt like you were ready to faint and throw up at the same time
dawson was quick to switch his fighting to shaw, quickly looking over at you to see if you were still conscious.
jamie drysdale had left what was essentially an aggressive, ill intended hug with the guy he’d picked up for the scrum to pull you over to the boards, giving an alarmed look to the coaching staff.
you weren’t responding to your name, or charlie. you were squeezing his hand but it was your only true sign of consciousness
most of the players had pulled away from their respective fights, staring over at you and jamie with looks of concern, some looking at shaw with looks of confusion- including his teammates.
when dawson was satisfied with his defence of his friend, he skated over, flexing his fingers in pain from punches.
he made it over a few moments before the teams medical staff, taking your hand and having jamie back away a little.
“you in there, char?” he took your neck guard off, knowing you’d always felt like it suffocated you.
you blinked, looking at him. he smiled, squeezing your hand.
“nico fell,” you murmured, worry laced in your voice for your goalie
“he’s padded like a marshmallow, rocky. i think you fell a little harder,” you smirked at his nickname for you, a mock of your likeness for fights.
that was all the reaction you had to anything for the rest of the night- a small grin.
when staff made it to you, you’d gone nonverbal again and you seemed to be slipping in and out of yourself. sometimes it looked as if you’d been out, couldn’t feel a thing, and other you were squeezing dawsons hand so hard you were cutting off circulation
the medical team had dawson and jamie help you off the ice, dawson staying with you in the ambulance since he’d been ejected from the game due to his defence of you.
when you were finally allowed visitors, the doctors let you explain to dawson- who you made promise to dumb it down and kid friendlify it for your little brother.
your neck was broken from the initial check. the doctors weren’t sure if you had paralysis until you became verbal again and calmed down enough for them to run necessary tests.
they concluded that other than some tingling in your arms and feet- you should be able to walk and eventually skate just fine.
you required surgery to fix the broken bones it your neck, but luckily the break did no damage to your spinal cord, so you’d be able to make a recovery.
they told you that other than your lack of ability to concentrate, which you assured them came long before the injury, you had no physical or memory related issues cause of your concussion
due to you presumably losing consciousness and going nonverbal after the blow, as well as your headaches and two consecutive seizures in the ambulance, they did imaging tests to see if you had any skull injuries or bleeding
you got lucky.
there were many opportunities for the injury to be career ending, even fatal- but the hospital assured you that you’d be able to return to mundane life in a week or two, after the concussion symptoms, and that you could return to sports once your neck was healed and you were cleared by your women’s league.
dawson was your caretaker, never leaving your side cause he was so anxious that the doctors had missed something- he needed to be ready to help if you needed him.
you tried to keep it lighthearted, despite your boredom and your throbbing pains
“my face feels eight feet wide,” you complained, eyes fluttering shut.
dawson stayed quiet, looking over at you for a moment and then returning to making you your lunch
“at least the several pints of blood coming out of my head made me look sick,” you chimed, smiling to yourself and pouting when dawson paid no mind
“mercer. you’re killing me, dude,” he sighed, coming over and sitting on the couch next to you.
“i was worried about you, y/n. i didn’t leave the waiting room other than to pee, i had nurses bringing me food cause they saw i wasn’t leaving. on the ice, i tried to make jokes but i was losing it,”
you leaned your head on his shoulder to the best of your ability with your neck brace, taking his hand.
“you’re still stuck with me. i’m too stubborn to die,” he finally cracked a smile, leaning his head onto your head.
“im holding you to that,”
-
january 5th, 2024. chi @ njd
you’d been dead silent ever since you’d gotten back to the dressing room since warmups.
tyler shaw had been marinating in the press box all season, and the team had chosen today to finally give him a spot on the fourth line.
when you saw his last name on a jersey you already weren’t fond of gliding around on the ice, your head immediately went back to the game that could’ve ended your life,
he’d been suspended from competing in iihf games since the incident, and his career had gone down hill from there, but the fact that he was still allowed on professional ice irked you to no ends.
dawson knew well enough why you looked like you were about to throw up, but your boyfriend and your captain were confused and concerned.
nico nodded for dawson to leave him to talk to you and sat in the now empty cubby, nudging your knee pads with his own.
“you alright, charlie?” you smiled softly at the ground, your soft spot for nico already grounding you.
“i’m okay, neeks,” you rested your head on his shoulder, the padding making for a comfortable spot.
“back in november you got enough penatly minutes against these guys to beat jack for the next two seasons, so how about we cool it today, yeah?” you giggled, wrapping both of your arms around nicos one that he used to pat your knee
“no promises. haven’t seen shaw since my last juniors game,” nicos lips parted, not having seen shaw on the ice during warmups and not clocking that your vendetta against the hawks was partly due to him.
“never mind. do crime, have fun, all of the stuff a captain absolutely wants to see,” he kissed your forehead and you laughed, looking up at him with a bright smile
“thank you, ni. your silly accent and questionable rule bending made me less prone to crimes,” he grinned.
“if you need a minute tonight, you’ll tell me?” you nodded and he hummed, staying in dawsons cubby while lindy spoke and up until it was time to get back onto the ice.

Debunking Myths About Chiropractic Care: What You Really Need to Know
Chiropractic care has been around for over a century, helping millions of people manage pain and improve their overall health. However, despite its benefits, many myths surround chiropractic services, causing confusion and skepticism. If you're searching for trusted "Chiropractor and Physical Therapy Passaic County NJ," you might wonder whether chiropractic care is right for you. Let's set the record straight by debunking some of the most common myths about chiropractic care.
Myth 1: Chiropractic Adjustments Are Painful
One of the most widespread myths is that chiropractic adjustments hurt. People often imagine that having their spine "cracked" must be uncomfortable or even painful. In reality, chiropractic adjustments are generally painless. Chiropractors use controlled, gentle pressure to manipulate the spine and joints. While you may hear a popping sound, it’s not your bones cracking—it's simply the release of gas from your joints.
Patients often feel immediate relief after an adjustment, and many find the experience relaxing. If you're looking for a chiropractor and physical therapy in Passaic County, NJ, rest assured that your chiropractor will always tailor treatments to your comfort level.
Myth 2: Chiropractors Aren’t “Real” Doctors
This myth likely stems from a misunderstanding of what chiropractic care involves. Chiropractors are highly trained healthcare professionals who go through years of education and clinical practice. They are licensed to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions, especially those involving the spine and nervous system.
Chiropractors complete extensive training in anatomy, physiology, and chiropractic techniques. In New Jersey, for example, chiropractors must complete a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree and pass rigorous licensing exams before they can practice. So, when you visit a chiropractor and physical therapy provider in Passaic County, NJ, you’re seeing a licensed professional with the expertise to help you manage your health.
Myth 3: Chiropractic Care Is Only for Back Pain
Another common myth is that chiropractic care is only beneficial for people with back pain. While it’s true that many people seek chiropractic care for this reason, chiropractors treat a wide range of issues. From headaches and neck pain to sciatica and joint problems, chiropractic care can help address various conditions.
In addition to treating pain, chiropractic care focuses on improving your overall wellness. Chiropractors aim to restore proper alignment to your spine, which can boost your nervous system's function and help your body heal naturally. If you’re looking for chiropractic care and physical therapy in Passaic County, NJ, your chiropractor can work with you to develop a comprehensive plan for pain relief and long-term health.
Myth 4: Once You Start Chiropractic Care, You Have to Keep Going Forever
This myth suggests that chiropractic care is addictive, and once you start, you’ll need to continue forever. This is far from the truth. The length and frequency of your chiropractic treatment depend on your specific health goals and condition.
Some patients only need a few sessions to find relief, while others may choose regular adjustments to maintain optimal health. Just like visiting a dentist for routine check-ups, many people find value in ongoing chiropractic care to prevent future problems. Your chiropractor in Passaic County, NJ, will discuss your treatment plan with you, ensuring it fits your personal needs.
Myth 5: Chiropractic Adjustments Are Dangerous
Safety concerns often arise when discussing chiropractic care, but chiropractic adjustments are generally very safe when performed by a licensed chiropractor. In fact, studies have shown that chiropractic care is a low-risk treatment option for musculoskeletal issues. Serious side effects are rare, and most patients experience positive outcomes after receiving care.
If you’re considering a chiropractor and physical therapy in Passaic County, NJ, know that chiropractic care is a safe and effective alternative to more invasive treatments, such as surgery or prescription medications.
Final Thoughts
Chiropractic care offers a natural, non-invasive way to manage pain and improve your overall health. Whether you're dealing with back pain, headaches, or looking to enhance your wellness, visiting a chiropractor and physical therapy in Passaic County, NJ, could be the solution you're seeking. Don’t let myths keep you from trying a treatment that could improve your quality of life.
By debunking these common myths, you can make informed decisions about your health and discover the many benefits chiropractic care offers!

Omg I love your blog 🥺 could I get a scenario or one shot with iwaizumi or Sakusa (or honestly any character you’d like!) where u run into each other at every tournament and it started out as a bitter rivalry but then they got rly worried bc u got hurt and they’re like “why do I care!?” Does that make sense? Ahaha 😅
~ just why do you keep running into the guy you hate most, especially when he equally hates your guts as well?
format: One-Shot
genre: fluff
- includes: Iwaizumi Hajime
Warning(s): swearing, slight mention of blood, enemies to lovers trope
---------------------------------------
“Oh look, my best friend’s here.”
“Fuck off.”
A sarcastic grin tickles your lips as you place a hand over your chest, pouting mock-affectionately as the dark haired spiker wipes at his sweaty neck with a damp towel. You adjust the gym bag on your arm as the rest of your team begins to warm up, already used to this turn of events.
“Aw, Iwa! You always manage to warm my cold, dead heart. If you have a crush on me, just say so. Are you some kind of stalker?”
“Hah? A stalker? You wish.” Iwaizumi stands as the red-headed one and popular brunette behind him stifle their amused laughter into their fists. “Who would like looking at your ugly mug all day?”
The spiker’s failed attempt to intimidate you with his height had your smile widening in challenge, the insult not hurting a bit. In fact, you lean a little closer, fake sniffing as if he had genuinely hurt your feelings.
“Yep. I definitely want this temperamental six year old in the body of a seventeen year old to show an ounce of interest in me. How’d you know?”
“How can I not show interest in things that perturb me?”
“So you are interested.” You wink. “Don’t hurt your pretty little head over using words that are too complicated for your brain.” You lean around him to shoot a sweet smile to his teammates, ignoring the flash of irritation across Iwa’s face.
“Issei, Oikawa, Hiro!” You flash a thumbs up, your pretty smile almost blinding. “You guys were cool.”
“Y/N-chan~ you’re such an angel!”
“Angel my ass.”
“Oh. You’re still here.” Your voice falls dejected as Iwaizumi gains an irk mark on his forehead. Glancing back at your team, you smile and wave at the other three. “Gotta go warm up, cheer for me!”
“Good luck!” Matsukawa calls after you, merely grinning when Iwaizumi shoots him an irritated stare.
“Not gonna wish the love of your life a good game?” Hanamaki questions, already beginning to walk off while smirking into his water bottle as his dark-haired friend merely scoffs. The teasing from his trio of “friends” wasn’t anything new.
“I don’t think that thing is capable of loving.”
“Yeah yeah, you love her, we get it.”
Iwaizumi groaned inwardly, sitting down tiredly on the bleachers to rest up as your team littered your side of the net. His jaw clenched when you offered him a lazy wave, kneeling slightly in your position as a libero.
There were many things Iwaizumi had could say about your character or even the irritating smile on your lips at his blatant annoyance, but he couldn’t deny how well your team mixed. Oikawa whistled lowly as Hanamaki absently mentions to Matsukawa about how the other team hardly stood a chance.
Iwaizumi blinks, feeling a pit of annoyance in his gut as the boys in the stands whistled at every save you made, the pit deepening even further at the smile you cast in their direction.
“You’ll get frown marks Iwa-Chan!”
“Shut the hell-”
“Oh shit! Y/N!”
Iwaizumi’s head whips back in the direction of your match at the sound of Hanamaki’s exclamation just in time for the collision.
And then his breath caught in his breath so abruptly he almost choked.
You clutched your ankle, teeth biting so deep into your lip so hard Iwa swore he could see a bead of blood as you withheld an obvious wail of pain. Your teammate knelt by your side with a hand clamped over her mouth in shock, Iwa being able to make out from your teammates’ panic that someone had accidentally shoved you so hard to the side you swore you heard your ankle snap in an attempt to stabilize yourself.
“Y/N-chan!”
“Is she okay?”
But Iwa wasn’t listening, all distaste for you seeming to drown out of his system as he wondered,
wondered why the hell he cared so much about the girl who tried her hardest to get under his skin. Your witty retorts, your wide grin, the softness of your irises, and the pang in his chest every time you jokingly bumped your shoulder against his in passing-
that same girl who’s cheeks were now shining with spilled tears causing him to rise to his feet.
“Oi Iwaizumi, where are you going?”
He didn’t spare a glance to your teammates as they silently made way for the wide-shouldered spiker, dark eyes assessing the damage as he bent down, swooping you up into his arms as if you hadn’t weighed a thing. He ignored the stares and wolf whistles from his team as he hurried out of the gym and in the direction of the infirmary towards the specialists who were trained for these events, heart tugging at the sound of your whimpers.
“I’ve had dreams about this.” You mumble, eyes clenched shut as tears built up on your closed eyelids, arms wrapping around his neck tighter as you buried your face in his neck. “Please be hot, that’s all I’m asking for.”
“You’re still joking at a time like this?” Iwa’s voice cracks at the proximity, wondering why on earth his chest was pounding in his ears as your eyes shot open. Immediately, you begin to squirm, your face heating up as Iwaizumi continues his hurried stride, barely sparing you a glance.
“You’re taking me?”
“No.”
“Don’t be sarcastic with me!”
Iwaizumi leans his head in the opposite direction, away from the volume of your voice, but he couldn’t stop the slight tilt of amusement on the right side of his lips as you seemed distracted by the obvious pain in your ankle. Mission successful.
He ignores your protests to set you down, frowning at your claims to wanting anyone else to have taken you. Even the brunette one.
“See, now that’s just plain insulting.” Iwa’s eyes narrow at you as he finally sets you down on one of the cots, about to walk off to find the doctor before a hand weakly tugs at the bottom of his jersey.
“....I think they’ll come soon. Can you...just stay? Just until they come?”
Iwaizumi blinked. Then blinked again.
Iwaizumi clears his throat, recovering from his shock before pulling up a stool and grabbing a nearby first aid kit. He tilted your chin up with his fingers, his gentle touch causing your cheeks to flare up as your eyes took on a vulnerable edge.
“Why do you hate me so much?” It was genuine curiosity, anything to alleviate the strange heaviness in his chest when he acknowledged that fact that you despised him so.
Your eyes widen at the sudden attack, wincing a little as the cotton pad dabs at your lips, soaked in alcohol. “Why do you?”
“I don’t hate you.”
“Oh-”
“I just think you’re annoying as hell.”
“Well I think that not a single thought goes on behind those pretty eyes.”
“So you think my eyes are pretty?”
The silence is heavy as you shake your head no quickly, causing Iwa to click his tongue and scold you to stay still as he keeps his eyes trained on your-
oh god he’s looking at your lips.
“Yes.” You’re almost whispering, shyly avoiding his widened gaze as you lean away from him.
He stumbles over his words at your direct response, unprepared for the way in which you lean a little further back, eyes nervous and not at all the sarcastic gleam he knows as he swallows back the lump in his throat.
“Well,” and then his hand is cupping the side of your face as he tugs you closer, confusion swirling in his head as his heart surges him forward, practically mumbling against your lips in a daze before he could stop himself.
“I think you’re prettier.”
He wanted to smirk at how he could practically see smoke puff out of your head.
“Even if you hate me?”
“I’m honestly not sure I ever did.”
The distance is closed by you, a hand coming up to run your fingers through his dark locks as his thumb strokes your cheek, lips moving feverishly together as you attempt to pull back-
If he let you go, would you go back to hating one another?
only for him to kiss you back even harder as if he was satiating some sort of hunger, a smile growing on your lips before a shot of pain shoots through your leg, bringing you back to reality as you whine against his lips. Iwaizumi gasps, ignoring your giggles and assuring words that you’re fine, carefully laying you down on your back while elevating your ankle.
“Y/N.”
“First name basis? Look at us skipping all the necessary steps.” you tug your hair out of it’s knot, attempting to redo it with a hair tie between your lips as the pain in your ankle falls to a dull throb.
“What did....are we...?”
“Does the Iwaizumi Hajime want to know if we’re a thing or not?” Your smile has his cheeks flushing, stare becoming irritated.
“Oi. Nevermi-”
“Yes, idiot. Now run along and fetch my things, will you?”
He rolls his eyes at your playful wink, ensuring your injured ankle was positioned properly before beginning to exit the infirmary-
“And Iwa?”
“What is it, doll?”
Your chest leaps at the nickname, Iwaizumi beginning to smirk at the change in expression on your face before you clear your throat.
“Thank you.”
It was one of the most sincere things you had ever said to him.
Your unexpected boyfriend kissed you on the lips a second time after a few strides, any confusion within him seeming nonexistent as he tucked a strand of hair behind your ear. The way you gazed up at him had his chest doing somersaults, wondering if you were both just denying the attraction you felt towards one another before fate took its turn.
“Nah, I should be thanking you.”
“For what?”
“Hurting your ankle-”
“Get out.”
Iwa’s feeling like an idiot with the lilt to his lips when the door slides shut and something hits the door where his head would have been, the slight smile fading back to his usual scowl at the sight before him.
His three friends had identical grins on their faces, Matsukawa holding a #1 fan balloon and Hanamaki decked out in merch from your school. He narrows his eyes at the bouquet of flowers tucked behind Oikawa’s back. All obviously from the themed store of the tournament.
Guess he didn’t need to worry about whether or not you would enjoy his idiotic friends’ company.
“So you're whipped. Didn’t see that one coming.”
“Whatever.”
“Iwa, where are you going?”
“...to go get her things.”
“You so love her.”
“Shut the hell up and don’t enter her room until I get back.”
It was only when the dark-haired spiker turned the corner, looking behind and in front of him before his back hits a nearby wall as he attempts to calm his heartbeat, swearing he had never felt such a wild surge of energy through his veins as his lips tingled with the taste of you. He sighs, touching the hair tie that he stole from you when he kissed you a second time from within his pocket, wondering just when his hatred melted into the exact opposite.
He was so whipped.

🥺 that mike lange story. But also those tags #sid loooves christmas #he loves giving presents #looks good in red #piles on the pounds fast #post hockey career as santa 😂😂👌🏽👌🏽
he loves his mementos and presents and is COMMITTED to them. scrapbooking. matching jackets. little pills with hidden motivational messages~*~ his love language is gifts and neck smooches and stalking geno. relevant right now are some anecdotes i sent a friend earlier this year for dorky sid gifts fic fodder:
1. Crosby's constant thoughtfulness would be impressive from anyone, much less someone of his stature.
"Sid always texts me happy birthday, he's always asking me like, how's Russia?" Evgeni Malkin said. "We talk and message all summer. He asks me how my skates are. He knows, like, everything. He follows my Instagram, I think (laughs)."
In addition to having a handle on those little details, Crosby is constantly providing those around him with memories and mementos. If the team is on the road and goes, say, sightseeing or to a sporting event and takes a group photo, Crosby will later send a framed copy to everyone.
When Ron Hextall and Brian Burke watched their first Penguins game in person, Crosby is the one who approached head equipment manager Dana Heinze and asked for two used game pucks to give to the new GM and president of hockey ops.
After the Penguins won in 2009, Crosby had jackets made for the three players on the team who had scored a Cup-clinching goal in Game 7: Talbot (Pittsburgh), Ruslan Fedotenko (Tampa Bay) and Mike Rupp (New Jersey).
"They were blue jackets with gold buttons, and each one had a patch on it that said 'GWG Game 7,'" Talbot said. "At one of our first team meals the next season, he presented us with the jackets and did a big ceremony with the music and stuff. We had a private room in the restaurant. I still have the jacket."
-The Consummate Teammate, Captain and Ambassador, Feb 2021
2. Merz: My first interaction with Sid was when we were on the bench, guys were talking about a teammate, and the first thing this 15-year-old says is, “Hey, guys. Let’s keep everything positive. Don’t talk about your teammates that way.”
Salcido: When we were getting ready for nationals, he found these little pills that you could put a hidden message inside. They unscrewed, and inside was a tiny scroll. He gave one to every teammate. … He had everyone fill one out. He didn’t tell anyone what to write, but he made it known that we all knew what the goal was: winning nationals. So we wrote on our scrolls, rolled them up and put them in the pill thing. We kept them with us everywhere we went.
-‘Is this real?’: Stories of Sidney Crosby’s year at a Minnesota prep school, May 2020
3. On “Butterfly Boy” Jonathan Pitre:
Though the Senators are his team, Sidney Crosby has always been Jonny’s favourite player. After the TSN documentary airs, Tina gets a call from the Penguins. Sid needs Jonny’s measurements. He wants to have a suit made for him by his personal tailor, Domenico Vacca.
“It’s the kindest, sweetest gesture,” Tina says. “Sid heard that Jonny went to a lot of games, so he wants him to look like he’s one of the guys.”
“I want him to feel like a pro,” Crosby says. “Here’s a guy who is going through something so painful, and his first thought is always, ‘How can I help others?’ When I was young, I’d watch on TV the players coming to the rink in their suits. That was a cool part of being an NHL player. I want him to feel that, to make it as real as possible for him.”
Tina tries to discreetly measure Jonny while she’s changing his dressings. But he’s way too smart for that.
“Um, Mom, why are you measuring me? Am I going for surgery again?” he asks.
“No, no!” Tina replies, trying to reassure him and come up with a good lie, all in the same breath. “The doctor needs them just to make sure they have proper dressings next time you are in.”
A few weeks later, the sharp navy blue suit shows up at their front door, along with a couple of ties, an autographed stick and a handwritten letter from Sid.
“His eyes just light up,” Tina says. “Jonny always liked to be well-dressed, and he just loves having his own suit. It fits perfectly. He looks so good in it.”
-Beauties by James Duthie (2020)
4. Pascal Dupuis inspired his Pittsburgh Penguins teammates on their run to the Stanley Cup, and Sidney Crosby found a special way of driving that message home.
Dupuis retired in December with lingering health concerns because of blood clots. Despite his NHL playing days coming to an end, the veteran forward remained an integral part of the Penguins and was in uniform to hoist the Cup after Pittsburgh's six-game win against the San Jose Sharks in the Stanley Cup Final.
On Sunday, Dupuis brought the Cup home one last time as a player to share a special day with his family, friends and hometown fans.
"Yes, it does feel bittersweet a little bit," Dupuis said. "You get the Cup, you want to celebrate. But at the same time I got a gift by the mail [Saturday]. Basically, it's a book of all the pictures of all the good stuff we went through. It came from Nova Scotia, so you guys can figure out who it came from (Crosby), but he couldn't give it to me during the season, he saw me skating a little bit.
"And he sent it [Saturday], before my day with the Cup, so he knew what he was doing to get me right here," Dupuis said, putting his fist over his heart.
-Pascal Dupuis shares Stanley Cup with family, friends, Aug 2016
5. In 2011, Crosby was out of the lineup with a concussion, and the Penguins made their annual visit to Children’s Hospital.
Crosby got along so well with one boy there and was so touched that he later asked Bullano to go back... just the two of them, no cameras, no attention.
When Bullano and Crosby met for the follow-up visit, Crosby appeared clutching a pair of Toys “R” Us bags, filled with a Transformer toy the two had discussed.
“He literally bought every type of this toy they make,” Bullano said. “[Crosby] had never seen it before and thought it was so cool.
“There are no pictures of this. There’s no video. He was laying in the bed with the kid. They were just playing. We were there for over two hours. I got to know the mom really well because we were just sitting there.
“The kid had no idea. Didn’t expect it. They had no idea he was coming. We got there and he said, ‘Hey buddy. hope you don’t mind that I came back.’ The kid couldn’t believe it.
“[Crosby’s] crazy cool about stuff like that.”
What’s crazy is trying to recount the many times stuff like this has happened with Crosby:
• The Little Penguins Learn to Play program has been around for nine seasons, outfitting now 1,200 kids with free head-to-toe hockey equipment. Not only does Crosby serve as the face of the program — which the NHL has now adopted — but he helps fund it, too.
“There’s an awareness of what a person in his position can bring,” Penguins vice president of communications Tom McMillan said. “I think he activates that as much as anybody I’ve seen during his playing career.”
• After a recent practice, Crosby noticed a local family in the Penguins dressing room, approached them, introduced himself, learned their story and wound up giving them a signed stick.
Nobody asked Crosby to do that, and he wanted zero credit when discussing it a couple days later.
“For people who have the opportunity to come in here, people dealing with certain things, if you can brighten their day a bit or spend some time with them, it’s something that’s special for all of us,” Crosby said.
• A few years ago, through a team charity event, Crosby befriended a 4-year-old Amish boy with cancer. Crosby remarked to Bullano how much he loved talking to the boy because of how engaging the boy was and how he wasn’t consumed with technology. Crosby even tried to visit the boy but learned he had passed away.
• He learns the first and last names of the kids who attend his hockey school in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia.
“Two kids came from Japan its first year,” Bullano recalled. “He was so blown away by that. He couldn’t wait to meet them.”
• Earlier this season, the Penguins welcomed Grant Chupinka, 24-year-old cancer patient, into the dressing room. Crosby chatted up Grant and his parents, Steve and Kim.
He spent his usual time — about two or three times the requirement. Gave the tour. Then found out the Chupinkas didn’t have tickets for that night’s game and decided he would pay for them to go.
“I’m sure he could just give them an autographed puck or something, but he takes his time to go out and see them and talk to them and get to know them,” Brian Dumoulin said. “It speaks volumes for him and who he is as a person.”
Spend any length of time with Crosby during his visits with those less fortunate, and a few things become obvious.
One, Crosby is really good at these. Smooth but not in a slimy way. Sweet. You know how when you’re around someone talking and they go out of their way to make eye contact with everyone around? That’s Crosby.
He’s also humble, always introducing himself like those he’s meeting don’t already know. Holding a hand is no issue. And Crosby is the rare 20-something pro athlete without kids who acts every bit like he does.
“It is not an easy situation to talk to someone with terminal cancer,” McMillan said. “A lot of people couldn’t do that. He has an amazing ability to do that and make that person feel good.”
Crosby has welcomed several Make-a-Wish kids and tries, if at all possible, to schedule such events for practice days — to maximize the time he’s able to spend.
He’s developed a special friendship with Patrick McIlvain, a soldier who nearly died when he took a bullet to the head in Afghanistan. McIlvain actually does physical therapy with one of Crosby’s sticks.
A former club hockey player at Cal U, McIlvain comes by every year, and the Penguins don’t even bother to tell Crosby. Either he already knows or immediately stops what he’s doing to come say hello.
“He’s not doing it to leave a legacy,” said Terry Kalna, Penguins vice president of sales and broadcasting. “His numbers leave the legacy. He’s just a down-to-Earth, good guy.”
Before a visit, Crosby has Bullano email him what is essentially a scouting report on who he’s going to meet. He likes to learn about them, their situation and what they’ve been through. As much information as he can ingest. Crosby never just swoops in, shake a hand and leave.
“As much as anyone has ever seen, he accepts the responsibilities of being not just a professional athlete but a star professional athlete,” McMillan said. “He views it as part of the job. Like coming to the morning skate. That’s just what you do.”
Put another way, “he owns those moments,” says Kalna.
Said Bullano, “He’s just a good human being.”
-When it comes to giving, Sidney Crosby does as much as he can, Feb 2017
6. When Crosby received a generous signing bonus on his Reebok deal, he wanted to share it with everyone.
“He gave everyone on the bus gifts,” says Oceanic radio commentator Michel Germain. “Him sharing his bonus with all the people he’d been travelling with for two years, that impresses me greatly. I think the most important thing about Sidney Crosby is his personality and the kind of human being he is. What he exuded. The inner richness he’d already developed.”
-Superstitious and generous, Dec 2006
7. also this simply because it makes me ;w;
Even in defeat — no, especially in defeat — Sidney Crosby proved why he wears the "C" for the Penguins.
After the game, with his heart sinking and his season over, the Penguins’ captain bent over, sank to the ice to pick up the puck, took it to linesman Tony Sericolo and then skated to his team’s handshake line.
I immediately thought of a View from Ice Level I’d written on Crosby making sure a retiring official was sent away from PPG Paints Arena properly. I knew picking up the puck wasn’t for the same reason that was, but I also knew, in some way, it was connected to Crosby’s awareness and respect of the game.
“It was for the Islanders,” Crosby told me after the game, his eyes swollen from a first round exit – by way of a sweep to make it worse. He told me how the winning team always wanted the puck, and it was his way of providing it for the Islanders.
Crosby looked me right in the eye as he told me this, just as he did with every other member of the media to come to him after the loss.
I could tell from those swollen eyes and the way he sat at his stall, by himself with his hands folded as he stared blankly, that Sidney Crosby is much more used to being on the receiving end of a puck when a series ends than he is at retrieving it for the winning team.
That scene. His swollen eyes. Staying in the locker room until most had left – talking to anyone who needed him. Most of all, though, picking up the puck that prompted my question in the first place and making sure the right people got their piece of their own history.
It all adds up to one thing: In victory and in defeat, Crosby respects the game above all else – just as he’s always done.
-Even in defeat, Crosby shines, April 2019

Sweet as Pie
With some much needed time off, and excitement crisp in the air, you had flown over to Jersey with your husband Henry for Christmas to stay with his family, and they had been delighted to have you both back on his homeland. You settled in to Henry’s old room, unpacking all of the gifts you had brought for his family. You knew his nieces and nephews were going to love you even more when they saw what would be lying for them under the grand Christmas tree in the living room. Secretly, you were their favourite - not that they’d ever tell their poor Uncle Henry.
The large home is tidy, but scattered with family members in every room, all feeling at home in the place where Henry and his brothers grew up. You’d been able to catch up with the relatives you didn’t often see, and promise to spend some quality time together over the holidays.
It was so sweet to watch all the children’s faces light up on Christmas morning. You were glad that you and Henry could be spared an extra few moments in bed, being the only childless couple in the house. Yet moments later, Kal had leapt onto the bed - much to Henry’s annoyance; “down Kal, careful now” - as soon as he had heard the pattering of his small friends’ feet out in the hallways. And what Kal wanted, you usually gave him.
Which is why, at 6.45am, Kal dragged you and in turn, dragged Henry down to the living room where the rest of the family sat, with the kids lit up like the Christmas tree that their plethora of presents laid under, grinning to their bleary eyed parents who’d barely had a wink of sleep on the cold winter morning.
“You’d think after 6 years it gets easier” you’d heard someone murmur, and so you’d decided to put the kettle on for those poor souls. Luckily for you, 45 minutes later, you’re able to snuggle back into bed with Henry, warming your feet on his legs to annoy him. You kiss the offended pout right off his face, before feeling his beefy arms wrap around your waist. It’s the last thing you had recalled, as you dozed off in his arms only seconds later, feeling his fingertips rub against your hip softly.
------
The kitchen was bustling with about 10 bodies all completing their various tasks; cooking, washing, baking, roasting, timing and tasting. Well, you had kicked your husband out of the kitchen for sneaking a taste of your dessert before it was ready, chastising him out of the door.
“You can either help properly or go and play with your siblings” you had bargained while he’d grinned, leaning against the doorframe. He raised an eyebrow, looking you up and down like you were a pastry he was keen to ravish himself; “But who is going to compliment the chef?”
With that, you’d folded your arms across your chest, blushing at his words. The cheek of that man was not lost on you, and it still got you every single time.
And you loved him for it.
------
The meal was a total success. A wonderful soup starter, followed by a small appetiser, and then the most magnificent turkey. Feeding over 20 people - now probably closer to 30 if you were to include the children who were growing up so quickly in front of your eyes - had proven to be difficult, but it was a challenge the family had clearly tackled before.
You had been so excited to prepare the desserts, and present your dish. However, halfway through the day, somewhere between the main course, watching your nephews with their new toys, and the dessert course of the delicious homemade Christmas feast, you’d fallen asleep on the sofa completely tuckered out. Your legs rested on Henry’s lap as he’d covered you with a hand-knitted blanket that he’d once slept with as a boy. Henry’s mother speaks up, careful not to wake you. She has a gleam in her eye, not that you or even Henry notice, too wrapped up in your own cozy sleepy bubble together by the fire.
“Dessert can wait” his mother says to the gaggle of children and adults swarming the living room, “go out and get some fresh air.”
She turns to the children, specifically. “Do not disturb your Aunt, okay?”
------
Your cheeks are warm as the fire heats the living room, and after a particularly competitive game of rugby with his brothers, nieces, and nephews, Henry quietly checks on you. He had left the room earlier when you had shifted your legs slightly, taking the opportunity to get some fresh air himself. It had indeed been a long day. His brothers had questioned your tiredness briefly, making sure you were well. With the knowledge that you were simply sleepy, they had begun to joke that you obviously just couldn’t keep up with the rest of the Cavills - despite having married into the family for 2 years and been around for the holidays for 4. Henry had promised them that you were fine - that you still weren’t used to the long trip back to the island for the holidays.
Not exactly a fib, he’d thought.
Kal was laid beside you, loyal as ever, watching out for anyone who may disturb your rest, sending a rumbling growl towards anyone who approached. Except Henry.
While checking on you now to make sure you were still comfortable and resting well, he smiled, taking a picture of you wrapped up cosily by the fire, at peace in his childhood home, completely at rest and ease with him and his closest relatives. Petting Kal softly, he thanks him for looking after his mama so well.
“So?”
His mother, he hears. She’s alone for once as there was no one rushing to check for updates on food, no enquiries about the house, or any funny stories woven into a ten minute tale from her grandchildren. She’s alone, with her hands on her hips and her eyebrows raised.
Henry stands up straight. There’s nothing that can wipe the tremendously cheesy grin off of his face. He can’t even speak. Even after dessert had finished, you were the one who would be doing all the talking, the telling, the explaining.
“Mum-”
“Henry. She’s not ill. and i know you’re sensible enough to not be up the whole night with your wife...at least under my roof. So…?”
He looks over at your peaceful form, and then scratches his neck, blushing at being caught out, but also ecstatic that he can finally say something about it.
“She’s eleven weeks. We’re expecting a baby next summer”
With that, his mother almost leaps with joy over to her son, who she hugs closely despite the obvious height barrier.
“Oh i knew it, I knew it! I’m so happy for you Henry, for you both. I thought, ‘She normally loves that bread for starter’, hm? Oh my boy! A father!”
With her proclamation, Henry finds that he has tears in his eyes as he holds his Mother close, finally glad that it’s not just a little secret between the two of you - well, the two of you and Kal, who had already been a stellar protector and big brother.
“We had planned to tell everyone after dessert…we’ve known for nearly 2 months and it’s been killing me that I couldn’t say. We’ve had to be so careful-“
“Henry?” he hears your quiet voice from across the room, as Kal’s collar jingles. He turns to see you sitting up from your nap with Kal booping his nose at your stomach. You’re scratching at his head, thanking him for being such a wonderful boy, while looking up at the two Cavills.
It takes less than a second for you to realise what is happening in front of you. Your jaw drops and louder than your previous call, you exclaim, “Henry you told her?”
“She worked it out! Practically forced it out of me.” he grins, holding his hands up as his Mother pretends to smack his arm.
You stand, watching not to step on Kal or any stray Legos that your nephews have left strewn across the floor, and walk over to hug her. She’s been so caring and kind since you’ve joined the family all those years ago, and you know that she will be an incredible Grandma to your little one.
Breaking apart from the hug, you find Henry pulling you to him carefully, letting you melt into his side. Kissing your forehead he asks, for your ears only, “Good sleep? No pains? Sickness?” He has a small crease of worry between his brows and you always do your best to soften that small tense area with regular updates and sweet kisses.
“Yeah i’m okay honey” you reassure him, patting your stomach, “this ones growing up a storm in there”.
And they really are. Henry’s mother cannot believe she’s seeing it, and mostly can’t believe she missed it. You’re already showing, but a large loose sweater -probably one of Henry’s old ones that has since become yours - over your dress, has hidden a sizeable roundness to your stomach that you were excited to finally show.
“How did I miss this!” Your mother-in-law gasps, causing you to grin, and Henry’s chest to puff with utter pride and excitement.
“I know it’s bordering on having too much to eat, but we’ve been hiding it for a couple weeks now. Doctor thinks that baby’s gonna be big. Just like their daddy.” You explain, giving your stomach another gentle rub, surprised to find Henry’s hand there on it already.
If you’d thought Kal was protective, Henry was another thing altogether.
He’s still grinning as you kiss him, before you pull away to speak more to his mother about all the details, especially when you’ll be coming over to Jersey again. Kai follows you closely, making sure you’re staying safe. He’s known that there’s something up with his mama, there has been for weeks, especially with the way his master looks after you now.
Henry, deciding to be sneaky while the two women in his life are currently distracted chatting, takes another taste of the dessert you made, now set out on the kitchen. The worst part is, he thinks he’s got away with it.
He realises he doesn’t the second you smack his hand from the dessert.
“Strike two Mr Cavill! Step away from the pie.”
“And if I don’t?” he raises an eyebrow, watching your reactions as you hold a butter knife in your hand trying to look at least vaguely threatening - failing miserably. “Maybe i’ll strike out tonight, hm?” he continues with that wonderfully mischievous glint in his eye, taking cautious steps towards you. “You look even sweeter than your pie with this little bump here. Maybe I’ll have a taste later after all.”
Henry’s mother had not been right in her assumptions, for under her roof, you and Henry were not sensible at all.

Sally Willburg/"the New Jersey Snatcher": [29]
Amazing art by @fanofrandomawesomeness and @joanathedummy
Born to an American upper-middle class family of doctors and lawyers, Sally was born with a genetic disorder that made her slightly sociopathic and unable to understand or feel physical pain. While she lived a wonderful childhood, bonded well with her older rebellious sister June, her younger and horror geek brother Max, her baby cousins, and her nieces and nephews (ended up loving kids and would oftentimes babysit for free), and lived up to her religious parents' expectations of being an successful entrepreneur, Sally never felt "normal", much less fit in with her immediate family or relatives. As an intersexual woman with both male and female genitals, she felt both masculine and feminine—it didn't help she was a theatre kid (came out as bisexual) and a former athlete during highschool. After graduating from college with a bachelor's degree, Sally settled down in Hackensack, New Jersey, setting up her doll store within her small manor (bought with a loan from her parents, graciously). When her hobby-turned-profession started to bore her, her sociopathic tendencies started making themselves known.... causing her to kill small animals and insects she captured in her home. Then when a man tried to sexually violate her in an alleyway, gouging his eyes out felt oddly satisfying. Now, after eight years of murdering the scum of the earth, going toe-to-toe with the infamous Charles Lee Ray, Sally ranked up a total of 99 kills, all undiscovered. And she's planning to make Chucky her next trophy, taking his abused bride for herself.
Her rivalry with the Lakeshore Strangler goes back to his first 20 or so killings, when she started her profession as a serial killer. Back then Charles was more of competition than someone she needed to get rid of because they kill innocent people. Her logic was that as long as he stayed away from her and her family, she didn't care. Then her, Charles, and Tiffany were in the same grocery store by coincidence, and Sally, suspicious of how strange Charles acted, went up to the couple and decided to make small talk, chalking it up to her mistaking them for celebrities (haha). To "apologize" for her mistake, Sally invited both to public party she was going to that needed more guests. After drinking and a few dead bodies later, Tiffany and Sally chatted while Charles was busy looking for another victim in the party, buddying up to each other. Sally didn't show it, but she started forming a small crush on Tiffany (not Charles, because she sees him as a misogynistic arsehole with how he treated Tiff). After that, they went their separate ways and haven't get in touch until the end of Seed of Chucky, which gave Sally the advantage to get closer to Ms. Valentine/Jennifer Tilly while she was "single", giving her the attention and gratitude Chucky never gave her, and happily raised Glen and Glenda as if they were her own kids. She does plan to marry and impregnate Tiffany, gaining a family of her own.
Sally Willburg has long jet black and layered hair, tan skin, dark brown eyes, and wears gothic makeup. She often wears skimpy clothing to attract disgusting men and women in order to kill them, whether it's by slitting their throat, banging their head on the wall, snapping their neck, gunshot, stabbing, playing twisted childhood games with them ("Hiding n' Go Seek", "Tag", "Blue or Red pill"), or simply bringing them to a remote forest to hunt them down like animals due to her shared love of hunting with her father when she was younger. She often writes "book reports" on her victims, after stalking and researching about them, in her study/office. Most of them were rapists, pedophiles, rich and greedy people, human traffickers, other murderers, etc, all wallets and possessions stolen by Sally to pawn off the valuable while keeping the money. After Charles Lee Ray died, she gathered all the information about him and wrote a three inch book discussing his childhood life, adult life, his family, and the infamous legend of Chucky the killer doll. Behind Tiffany's back, Sally made a report about her as well.
Her doll form, made by her in her doll workshop, has a fragment of her soul, due to Tiffany doing the ritual after being persuaded by Sally. The plan was that a small part of her would be in the doll in case Sally died or her body became paralyzed/bedridden. They are not connected by a hive mind, but Sally (the doll) acts the same as Sally (the human). The doll is often packaged and sold to children to spy on their parents to see if they are abusive, in which the doll would murder them and hide the evidence.
She would often foster orphans, due to her love of children and to keep a low profile as a doll maker who simply wishes to bring joy to the world. All children are well fed and healthy, and sleep in their separate rooms.
Her relationship with Tiffany was better than Tiffany's marriage with Chucky: less abusive and argumentative, and filled with more appreciation and affection. And their chemistry in bed was safer and bloodless, made with gentle love and aftercare. Tiffany became Sally's healthy addiction to combat her murderous sadism. But her rivalry with Chucky gets in the way between their love, leaving Sally with having to bring Tiffany's common sense back to reality after another successful murder or scheme, reminding how cruel Chucky is and that he has done nothing but used and cheated on her. Near the end of season 1 of Chucky, when the truck of Chucky's were being driven by Andy, the doll form of Sally pushed Tiffany out of the truck, ordered Andy to jump out on her mark, and blew the truck up with all of the Good Guy dolls inside, thankfully had gotten herself out in time with minor bruises and scratches. It is then Tiffany (the doll) finds out Sally was working with Andy and Kyle with killing Chucky dolls the entire show, allowing her to reveal her deep love for Tiffany: "You deserve better. A better life. A better husband. Not him." And she saved Nica from being an amputee.
But even after all these years, Sally still hasn't aged. Something keeps her young and healthy, but it isn't an amulet or a book of evil; maybe an entirely different entity altogether...
