New Orleans Saints Draft Grade
Here is my grade and analysis of the New Orleans Saints 2018 draft
The Saints begin the 2018 NFL draft by trading up to the 14th overall selection to take UTSA defensive end Marcus Davenport. Davenport has seen his draft stock skyrocket after the Senior Bowl game showing impressive athleticism to go along with tremendous s length and effort during his college career with great ability as a pass rusher. Davenport has a high ceiling as a pass rusher but is raw as a run defender and has issues playing with great strength when taking on blockers. Davenport has the ability to become a top notch defensive end at the pro level but will need to have a lot of work done to become a consistent and complete defensive end. The next pick is UCF receiver Tre’quan Smith. Smith was the big play receiver for the UCF team with the length and enough speed to create big plays downfield along with showing very good blocking ability on the outsde. However he doesn’t consistently show the elite speed at the NFL level and needs to create separation and doesn’t always show great hands. Smith has good size and athleticism and has shown good overall ability to make plays at the pro level and could become a part of the Saints receiver rotation early in 2018. The next pick is Florida State offensive tackle Rick Leonard. Leonard has good height and strength to be an effective right tackle and could play at both guards at the pro level, he has good overall athleticism and power with good ability to mirror defenders in pass protection. However he lacks equal length for his size and will show slow feet and will need to improve his balance and hand fighting. Leonard should become the swing tackle for the Saints during the first season and could be moved to the inside if injuries happen again in 2018. The next pick is Wisconsin safety Natrell Jamerson. Jamerson had a tremendous showing with a 4.4 at the combine and was among the best with the vertical and broad jump while showing good ability in run support. However he has issues with his polish and has limited playing experience as a safety and has some issues with longer receivers along with being average at best when in coverage. Jamerson should be a limited player at safety but should be very impressive as a special teamer. The next pick is Kamrin Moore, cornerback from Boston College. Moore lacks great athleticism and polish in man coverage despite extended experience in the defensive backfield and will likely need to be moved to safety at the pro level and show great production in special teams to make the Saints roster. Boston Scott, runningback from Louisiana Tech is the next Saints pick. Scott was impressive when he took over as the top runner at Louisiana Tech and his impressive agility speed and acceleration he has many similarities to former Saints back Darren Sproles. Scott lacks elite power and size and will likely need to have limited snaps at least early in his career. Scott could see significant snaps as the Darren Sproles receiving back as a rookie though will need to make the team as punt returner and 4th back for the Saints. The last pick is LSU offensive lineman Will Clapp. Clapp has good size for an interior lineman and usually shows good agility, though he lacks the strength and consistency as a blocker that could hurt his ability to play early in his career. Clapp is a good lottery pick and could be the backup swing interior lineman as a rookie with hopes that he can add power and improve with his technique. The Saints draft will hinge on the success on Marcus Davenport after an incredible trade up in the 1st round and he is likely going to be the only starter in this draft class as a rookie but is a massive risk or reward. Overall the Saints draft is average and the grade should be a C though I have learned that the Saints have great success on picking up impressive pass catchers and solid situational players.

Impact & Potential From The 2018 Saints Draft Class
Impact & Potential From The 2018 Saints Draft Class
There were many teams that made an impact in their present and future predicament in the 2018 NFL Draft. The New Orleans Saints are one of those teams that found help in multiple needed positions while also taking multiple big risks. The Saints needed to make a few big moves as they found themselves falling in the power rankings to teams they beat like the Los Angeles Rams, who made huge…

Saints roster moves: Three draft picks, QB Tom Savage, RB Jonathan Williams lead second round of moves
The New Orleans Saints released a slew of veterans in the first round of roster cuts on Friday.
And the Saints' job doesn't get any easier on Saturday. New Orleans must release roughly 20 players — a number dependent on other moves — before 3 p.m. on Saturday to get the roster down to 53 players.
Former second-round pick Hau'oli Kikaha, return man Brandon Tate and veteran receiver Michael Floyd led the list of 15 players who were released on Friday, and veteran running back Shane Vereen was placed on injured reserve, another alternative for players who are battling an injury.
Follow along here as The Advocate tracks all of the roster moves for the Saints.

21 Savage即將出現在NFL球場上?
在NFL季前賽前往往是會有重大變動的時候。綠灣包裝工隊的 Darnell Savage 改變了他的背號。
Tumblr media
Darnell Savage
Savage 剛加入NFL的時候是背號26,但最近把背號改為21,防守後衛Natrell Jamerson讓出這個背號,讓 Darnell Savage 正式的成為“21 Savage”
Tumblr media
21 savage
“21 Savage”這個名字在嘻哈裡具有重要意義。亞特蘭大說唱歌手Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph AKA 21 Savage。在我看來,Darnell很有可能是 21 savage 的粉絲。

Most noticeable difference from last year, so far, is the tempo of practice. Very little downtime between snaps. Everything going quick.
— Zach Heilprin (@ZachHeilprin) July 25, 2019
New practice drill: RB and defender start back to back, run apart 5 yards or so, then turn and meet at an angle. One way to practice tackling without pads. Haven’t seen the #Packers do that before.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) July 25, 2019
Ton of throws and checkdowns to the RBs during the early portion of team drills & 7-on-7. #Packers
— Zach Heilprin (@ZachHeilprin) July 25, 2019
Saturday is just shoulder pads, Sunday is full pads for those coming to Green Bay for the weekend. #Packers
— Jim Owczarski (@JimOwczarski) July 25, 2019
Ton of offensive skill rotation today, and the head coach says initially it is about keeping guys fresh but also seeing what / who works – but once guys earn more reps LaFleur said they’ll get them. #Packers

DeShone Kizer
In team drills, Kizer gets a free play and throws into double coverage. Natrell Jamerson tips it up and Chandon Sullivan picks it off in the end zone. #Packers
— Zach Heilprin (@ZachHeilprin) July 25, 2019
Kizer just had two touchdowns throws in a row, the first evading an all out blitz with a prayer throw caught by the fullback who rolled into the end zone, the second a dart over the middle into the end zone

Trevor Davis made noise in minicamp as a WR. We know what he can do as a returner but I don’t think most people realize just how good he is on special teams coverage units. He just exploded up field for a would be tackle on kickoff drills – at a totally different speed.

Aaron Jones is showing off his hands in the pass game, just shared a shoestring grab on a low throw from Kizer and earlier had a nice backpedaling TD catch in routes on air (catch reminiscent of his TD catch in Seattle last year)

Seeing a lot of fullback in the #Packers offense, same as the spring. Life looking good for Danny Vitale right now. Seems that position is making a return.

Rashan Gary
Rashan Gary with a “sack” of Tim Boyle against Alex Light. Rashan Gary makes things look really really easy sometimes. Doesn’t feel like a rookie at all.
Blitz not picked up, Kizer gets it out hot, receiver stumbles but takes it in for the TD. I think Baylis.

NFL notebook: Which Bucs QB will start?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears .
And coach Dirk Koetter knows who it is but is keeping it a secret.
Jameis Winston reported back to the team on Tuesday, giving the team access to its usual starter, after his three-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick started during Winston's absence and became the first quarterback in NFL history to threw for 400 or more yards in three consecutive games, leaving Koetter with an intriguing dilemma.
Koetter said he has discussed his quarterback plan with Winston and Fitzpatrick but declined to share it with reporters. The
--The New Orleans Saints placed cornerback Patrick Robinson on injured reserve, according to multiple reports. He broke his ankle Sunday in the team's overtime win over Atlanta.
Players on injured reserve must miss eight weeks, so the earliest Robinson, 31, could return is for a Thanksgiving night rematch against the Falcons in New Orleans. The team has not announced a timeline for his recovery or whether he will return this season.
The Saints lack depth at the defensive back position. They waived the defensive backs they drafted this year -- fifth-rounder Natrell Jamerson and sixth-rounder Kamrin Moore -- and both have found homes with new teams. Now, New Orleans is left to hope that P.J. Williams or Ken Crawley can assume the starting role.
--The Buffalo Bills traded veteran offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse to the Carolina Panthers for a future conditional draft pick, the Bills announced.
Carolina cut tackle Corey Robinson to create room on the roster.
Newhouse, a TCU product, was a fifth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2010. He played three seasons with the Packers, one with the Cincinnati Bengals, two with the New York Giants and one with the Oakland Raiders. Buffalo signed him to a one-year contract in March.
--The Tennessee Titans plan to sign journeyman quarterback Austin Davis because of injuries at the position, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.
The Titans targeted the 29-year-old to provide veteran insurance with starter Marcus Mariota bothered by an elbow injury and backup Blaine Gabbert in concussion protocol.
Gabbert suffered a concussion in last Sunday's victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars and might not be cleared for this week's contest against the Philadelphia Eagles.
--Former Oakland Raiders linebacker Neiron Ball is in a medically induced coma following an aneurysm that burst in his brain, according to multiple published reports.
The 26-year-old Ball reportedly has been in the coma since Sept. 16.
Ball has battled a rare blood vessel disorder called arteriovenous malformation, which is an abnormality in the connection between arteries and veins in the brain or spine. The diagnosis was made after he experienced headaches in 2011 as a member of Florida's football team.
--Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen is under hospital supervision after an incident at a Minneapolis hotel on Saturday.
Head coach Mike Zimmer confirmed at a press conference that the Vikings ordered Griffen to undergo a mental evaluation in a letter sent to Griffen and his agent.
According to Deadspin, which posted a copy of the Minnetrista, Minn., police report detailing the incident, Griffen leapt out of an ambulance on his way to the hospital for the evaluation.
--Head coach Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers were looking at quarterbacks on Tuesday with Jimmy Garoppolo out for the season. Colin Kaepernick was not among the veteran passers invited to the workout.
Shanahan said the 49ers already have made contact with former Miami Dolphins backup Matt Moore. NFL Network reported the long list of players the 49ers are evaluating includes Matt Simms, who was with the Falcons when Shanahan was offensive coordinator there, along with Tom Savage, T.J. Yates and Kellen Clemens. Yahoo Sports reported Kyle Allen, an undrafted free agent who left school early after playing for Texas A&M and Houston, also was scheduled to meet with the 49ers.
Reports of trade interest from the 49ers in other veteran quarterbacks -- Tyrod Taylor of the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets backup Josh McCown -- are unlikely to bear fruit. Browns head coach Hue Jackson said Monday that Cleveland would not trade Taylor, even after No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield was promoted to the starting job.
Story Continues
--Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the roughing the passer penalty is blurring the line of what he defined as a "man's game."
"The way I see our future is I see a real serious emphasis on youth football, amateur football. I see it reflected at the high school level. Then a step above that will be the collegiate level and I see a collegiate game that certainly has a lot of finesse in it but is a great game and makes these kinds of adjustments we're talking about," Jones said on 105.3 FM in Dallas on Tuesday.
"But when it comes to pro football, to use a boxing term, that's when you put the 6-ounce gloves on. That's when you don't want to fight with those 10-ounce gloves or you don't fight with those head gears. Everybody's being really paid to go out and you're paid a lot of money to go out and incur those type situations that have more risks in them. It's real important that pro football distinguish itself as a very physical game relative to the game at college, relative to the game at high school and amateur. That's very important. Now where to find that balance, that's one thing but when we get to a point in the future in time you'll see pro football where they've put the 6-ounce gloves on and where the men are playing."

The Saints’ Secondary Scramble Continues: What are Some Options? – (All Saints Considered)

Last year the Saints took several hits along the secondary throughout the season. Come 2018, they made strides in shoring up the depth across the secondary drafting two formidable defensive backs that could play multiple positions in Kamrin Moore and Natrell Jamerson. They also promoted practice squad standout, Arthur Mauler to the active roster at roster cuts.…
