Today is Naru Osaka’s birthday so I figured it was a good day to share another Naru commission, this time requested by Mitsukara at @arikitari-josei-osaka-naru

Mitsu gave me free rein for her Naru request, so I decided to draw Naru in a Sailor Moon cafe inspired costume, with nods to both Nephrite and Umino 🍨 🍤

DIEALO Interview - May 2017

Also on another note... it feels like parts of this interview are a bit chaotic because sometimes they said things, acting like the interview was after their 1st anniversary even though it was before it. And sometimes they said things from the point of view of the interview time, which means before the 1st anniversary.

DIEALO is showing its strength, coming from the Kansai Visual Kei scene. This is the first time you appear in this magazine, so please introduce your band first! NARU: We’re Kansai band DIEALO. AKI: We’re DIEALO, a band made of unique individuals. JUN: Nice to meet you. We are DIEALO. NARI: We just held out 1st anniversary at OSAKA MUSE the other day. We’re DIEALO. HAKU: We’re a band made up of five strange people.

And next, please introduce the members! NARU: We are super strong, loud and crazy guys. Nice to meet you. AKI: I love guitars and computers. And pretty things. JUN: I’m DIEALO’s JUN. I like being at home.  NARI: Rather than 3 times I like to eat 4 times a day. I’m bassist NARI who’s mainly the one being in charge of driving the car. HAKU: I’m drummer HAKU with the loud voice. I like to be at home.

Thank you! Other than my first impression I’m relieved that you seem quite funny (laughs). You’ve held your 1st anniversary in April. We would like to review your past year of activity. What kind of year was it? NARU: It was a year that passed by in an instant. An important memory will be my own birthday live and the anniversary live on April 7th. AKI: It passed by in an instant. It made me feel that I grew a lot during that year. JUN: It was a year of repeated trial and errors. We challenged everything and became stronger. NARI: Everyone already said this but the year flew by so fast. It was a year full of various feelings. HAKU: Thinking back, this year passed by so quickly. It made me think that I have to improve a lot.

For your 1st anniversary you will hold a live at Osaka Muse on April 7th. The live hasn’t been held yet but at the time of the release of this issue he will be over. What do you think this live will be like? (interview has been held on March 28th) NARU: I wonder how it will be. I think it will be the most exciting thing we’ve done so far. AKI: I’m pouring everything I have into our live performances, so I think this will definitely be the best live we’ve held so far. JUN: The good points and the bad points. I don’t think I will regret anything. We’re gonna start in small live houses but they will become bigger halls. NARI: It’s an important point of the success we achieved during this year. That’s why I think all of the members will give everything they have at this live. HAKU: I think it will be a live where we will give everything we can do at this point of time.

I’m sure it will be an awesome oneman! And then, please give a message to the “you” that you will be after that live at Osaka Muse and also to your fans. NARU: Thank you for the hard work, me! And to everyone who came: thank you. Let’s walk ahead! AKI: No matter how hard you work, I think there will definitely be things you regret. But don’t lose hope! To the fans, all I want to say is “thank you”. JUN: To myself: did you already find your next task? Please give your best without burning out! To everyone: I like you so much I want to embrace you. NARI: Thank you for the hard work. There are so many things left to do, so let’s give our best! Everyone who has supported us, thank you. I think, because there are so many different people there are many different thoughts and feelings. But it makes me really happy that among them all you found DIEALO and support us. Thank you. On April 5th you will release your 3rd single and a live DVD. First, let me ask something about the single. The title is “FRUSTRATION”. Please tell us something about the concept and image. NARU: Eh, please ask JUN AKI: Ah, please ask JUN. NARI: Hm, please ask JUN. HAKU: Un, please ask JUN JUN: I wrote these three songs from different points of view and having various things in mind I’m not happy with. Answering these thoughts it got all over the place but I’d be happy if they reach peoples’ hearts in whatever way. We wrote negative lyrics and created a cover with a rather negative atmosphere but it doesn’t mean we should heading backwards. Including this thought we created FRUSTRATION.

Your live DVD shows your first oneman live. Watching live footage of that time what do you think about it yourselves? NARU: To tell the truth, I haven’t watched it. Everything was too wild… (bitter laugh) AKI: I could’ve done more at that point. That’s what I thought while watching. JUN: I didn’t know a lot back then. NARI: It felt nostalgic. More than now I think I wasn’t thinking a lot while performing. HAKU: It was a good memory in various ways.

I see, you all have different thoughts about it but also for your fans that’s probably an important memory. Please, in the end, send a message to your readers! NARU: Thank you for loving DIEALO this past year. Thank you for drawing this dream together with us. AKI: We’ve just started. Please treat us well also in the future. Thank you. JUN: Thanks to everyone who supports us DIEALO could become one year old. We will grow so that also people who don’t know us yet will come to know and like us. NARI: Thank you for this year. February 24 is the birthday of Chieko Kawabe, the fifth actress to play Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury in the musicals, who also played Naru Osaka in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.  She was the third longest-running Sailor Mercury in the musicals.
