Alright - My goal this year is 50000 words. Period. I'm not aiming for a cohesive novel, just that good good word count. December 1. Nanowrimo is over.

I didn't come anywhere close to winning. In the end, I didn't even manage to meet my lowered bar goal of 30K. My total word count for the month is 26,226.

And you know what? I'm okay with that.

A few years ago, I wouldn't have been. Not meeting my goal would have been crushing. It would have made me doubt my worth as a person, not just my skill as a writer. In fact, I would have been panicking and nauseous every day throughout the month because I wasn't meeting my word count.

Now, though, that level of anxiety and unhealthy thinking is almost incomprehensible to me. That's a win. And I've got 26K words that I didn't have on Nov 1.

Now for December. If I can keep up a reasonable pace and consistency, I'll be doing great. And I'll be having just as much fun as I did while being so productive during NaNo, too.

You couldn’t possibly know what it’s like to be in love, you’ve never had a boyfriend before.”“Right,” I say, rolling my eyes, “Sorry for my ignorance.” I couldn’t possibly know what it’s like to be in love for what? Two months? I don’t add. But, of course Nanny Davis would know what love is. I mean, she’s been to second base, or fiftieth.

“It’s the curse, by the way.”

“What?”

“That keeps me alive. You said it yourself. Blessings have nothing to do with it.”

As if that wasn’t ominous enough, she was very clearly preparing to jump out of the window again. With the dizzying shadows of Beamwyn dancing around her, it seemed almost like the forest was going to wrap her up and drag her into its arms.

What, the trees clacked at me, is that?

“...You can use the front door,” I said. “Everyone’s asleep at this time of night.”

She flashed me a grin, swinging her leg over the sill. “Where would the fun be in that?”

And then she was gone, leaving me to deal with the after-effects of that smile by myself.

nano 2k17 : the queen of the air ingrid daughter of bram has been betrothed to fargrim son of evar for as long as she can remember, and dwarves can remember for a very long time. their marriage will unite ingrid's beloved tumunzar with the strange kingdom of dwionan, and hopefully stop a war. but when ingrid's cousin arfinn is murdered by fargrim's uncles, war comes to ingrid anyway. ingrid knows tumunzar stands little chance against dwionan's innovation, but her thrice-great grandfather hramfast-king is ancient, and mad, and will not back down from a challenge. to save her kingdom, ingrid sets out for dwionan on her own, determined to bring peace. with the help of hasira longlegs, a wood elf with a mysterious past, ingrid must cross the three kingdoms of men that separate her mountain from dwionan, and finally decide what matters more: duty to her family, or the freedom she's found underneath the open sky.

I think....I might actually attempt NaNoWriMo this year.  And I think I’m going to attempt writing an Aki-centric story.  Totally out of left field, but hell, he’s basically an OC, and I’m going to stick him in another setting that’s maybe not necessarily FF8 related.  I think he’s a strong enough character where he could stand on his own?

And oh yeah, I’ll have to do a shitload of world-building if I don’t use an existing world in which to write him.  Why the hell not, eh?

Does anyone else have little phrases that run through your head? You never know if you’re going to be able to fit those exact words into the prose of your story, but there is something about them that makes them impossible to forget

He dipped his head, murmuring something in the language of Te Wheke to her; she shook hers firmly, responding in the same tongue. Unsure of what else to do in this suddenly intimate moment, I glanced over at Henri.

Ex-lovers, he mouthed, screwing his face up in an exaggerated expression of disgust.
