Fell into a wormhole reading about Bill Everett, the golden / silver age comic book artist, and found this striking cover of a character I never heard of before.
Amazing-Man was created in 1939, in response to Superman (as many superhero characters created after 1938), by Bill Everett, who would create the sub-mariner Namor in the same year. The Amazing-Man series ran until 1942 from issue #5 to #26... There were NO issues #1 to #4, that's because at the time several titles were discontinued after only the 1st issue, so buyers started to avoid buying 1st issues to avert the deception of never getting an issue #2. Which led to lots of companies publishing new series on later issue numbers, that way giving the false impression that their characters had months of stable publication. I found this fascinating...

Amazing-Man was a Centaur Publications character and it's owned by Marvel Comics today. There's another Amazing-Man at DC, but that one was created as a homage to Bill Everett in 1981, the character's civil name being William Everett.
Also, is my mind in the gutter or that cover is a bit suggestive? Apparently Wonder Woman and Doll Man were not the only BDSM coded characters in the golden age...
Amazing-Man #5 (1939) is in public domain and you can read it here!

I never feel as human as when he is near me. Vashti tells me there is something different in me when he is near. I don’t know how to tell him the truth, so I just smile and nod. But there is something different in me when he is near – it’s true. He makes me feel like the sun.
– excerpt from the private journals of Prince Namor of Atlantis, the Avenging Son, and the Scourge of the Seven Seas
-
It was strange to Namor that there could be such a beautiful, mundane day amidst one of the worst wars the surface world has ever known. Somewhere on the European continent, there were men dying for what they believed was right. Amid blood and screaming, lives were being lost under the tyranny of evil. And yet, the sun shone like a beacon in the sky above, the ocean glimmered like a jewel, and Namor was flying.
