Nala is the first dnd character I ever made, about 4 years ago. if I want to be the tallest in any Champaign, ill play Nala. backstory ↘️

Nala traveled as a child with a group of barbarians, most of them human or half orc. she was one of the only dragonborn for miles around. she was praised for her strength and the natural magic that she has. she stayed with them and fought for her clan for about 17 years. at the same age she found she had an interest in society and people and culture, so she broke off from the clan and they are still on good terms. she is now traveling on her own and takes regular quests/battles for an income and is very social and loves going to bars and drinking, getting into bar fights, all the good stuff.

She loves traveling and meeting new people, she’s not old for a Dragonborn but she’s very experienced and knows her way around. She cares about others and has a strong sense to protect those who cannot protect themselves. She believes that everyone should get a second chance and that people can and will change for the better.

Meet the DnD party!

Me and my friends have a dnd campgain, and i have fully designed my character, but everyone else has not. While two of them have like one drawing of their characters but not designed fully, a few of them don't draw, and i really wanted to see them so i asked them to describe them to me with any references they have (i sent picrews and doodles quick examples which they could pick from and they had their own resources like heroforge and their minatures and doodles they did and other apps for other details which i tried to incorperate) and this is what i came up with:

(It was honestly do fun drawing and constantly sending images on the chat and asking for anything they want changes and then editing it. They all also gave me a lot of creative freedom which was super fun)

(My favorites to design were the satyr and vulpin (goatman and foxman) because you could get so much more creative with them

Now i will introduce each character, left to right

You all know and love him, you've seen her a lot on this blog, it's Toby! He's my character (and was designed forever ago) a gremlet outside of the dnd context, but a tiefling fighter in dnd. You can find details and backstory here

Here is Kinraeg, a half-orc cleric for the goddess Hecate. He is a drug dealer on the run. Saved us from dying so many times (the guidance spell is great) and he's always telling us not to die. Only thing keeping the party alive.

The owner on the character does draw and gave me one of the two most detailed references, so i basically copied it exactly while changing a few details he didnt manage to change himself on time. I also did get to play with colours thoug since he only gave me a pallette and told me that he wants the skin green and white hair and the other colours for the clothes.

The bane of my existence, Lagos. The satyr bard who became enemies with Toby in the first 30 mins of them meeting. I call it a lego piece. Im not sure Lagos' backstory but it came up on a small rowboat, half starved and suffering to our ship, where we took it in.

Lagos was probably the most fun to design, the owner gave me full creative freedom but with enough picrews and her own doodle do give me some guidence. I was allowed to go ham with the goat features and had fun thinking about where the fur would go and how the clothes would work. The skirt is based on trousers i recently bought and i thought the crop top was cool everything was also so fun (im so happy with the design, the goat eyes and the round head with a pointed chin to immitate a goatee and such. More details are in the image)

Grog the barbarian gnome is a guy Toby seems to interact with a lot. After all, they are both the tanks of the party. Im not sure the backstory but he does get drunk a lot. He bought daesyn's (the next character)'s griffin, Nala, and is the one who is seen carrying her all the time, second to daesyn himself.

Grog was the first one i designed, and it was a bit hard. Im not familiar with the body shape so it took a bit to get it right, but i eventually managed to get the shaped down. He was kind of okay to design, a good warmup, since he was a basic gnome with simple clothes, the most interesting part was the markings on the forehead which was the one image reference the owner gave me, since he cant draw (he sent some model headshot from some game or something)

Daesyn is the father of the group and navigator/ unspokenly decided captain of the ship. The human paladin (for the god Possidon) was once a man with a family, wife and daughter who he lost in the war. He has since left his ruined country and joined a group of travelers who found him drinking his sorrows away in a bar. He has since taken up the possition of of dad of the ship, and own a griffin named Nala

Daesyn's owner was another one who gave me detailed reference, a figure made with heroforge which had a ton of detail that i honestly dont want to include since i like having simple to draw characters so i basically copied it one for one, while simplifying the armour down quite a bit. It made this one kind of boring to draw, but it was easy as i didnt have to think of anything new

And finally, the "accidentally" arsonist is Fizer, the vulpin. The alchemist helps Kinraeg with his drug making and totally accidently set our ship on fire which was the owner saying "im going to roll to accidently make an explosion when making potions" and then rolling to do just that... =_= he does make potions... sometimes (he rolls real low) but a few times they really did help

Fizer was the other most fun to design. The owner gave me a picrew which was just a headshot of a black mask with black hood and nothing else, so i had to decide how i would implament it. I think it turned out good, even though i thought it wouldnt work that well. I also drew various head and tuft shapes (with my warrior cat oc making knowledge) and told him to pick a combination of different options (kinda like a picrew) to decide fluff and ear shapes since he couldn't visualise it himself. It was fun to constantly go back for feedback, sincw he was also the one who most was telling me to change things, it made me glad cuz i want these characters to be their own and not just hem being fine with whatever i come up with. Same things with the colours

(I also drew this diagram with all of their eyes)(im glad that i was able to give everyone unique eyes and things because i struggle with that so much usually)(also i always draw boots as brown blocks with maybe some laces or something cuz i dont know how to draw good shoes, so im glad i made them all unique)(combining all of my different artstyles for each character and implamenting things from them into each character was super fun)

In pur campgain, we are on a pirate ship on an adventure to find and steal Possidon's trident (not sure why tbh), sailing through normal ocean, acid ocean and the such. With wonderous recurring npcs such as Jimmy the orc, Dave the shopkeap, Gobby Gobkins the 5yr old trickster (we hate him, how did we trust him with out court case), the slave who's name i forgot who we won by Grog winning an armwrestle in which the reward was eachother's souls, various pokemon: meridia napolean greg scooby and unicorn, our griffin Nala and Toby jr my rat who is... somewhere

Were you named after anyone? My first name? No. But my middle name I stole from an actor cause I thought it was cool

When was the last time cried? Like. Earlier today. I will cry tomorrow as well. That's how it goes.

Do you have kids? Absolutely not. Please god no. I am barely a functioning person. Also I'm not old enough for this to be considered

Do you use sarcasm alot? Sometimes? I dunno a normal about? You ask me to hand you something and I will say no while handing it to you. I guess this is sarcasm

What's the first thing you notice about people? I don't know if there is anything in particular I notice? Usually it depends on the person I suppose. I'm also just a pretty unobservent when it comes to people honestly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What's your eye colour? Brown. I do have sectoral heterochromia in one of my eyes but it's just a darker brown so it's not really noticeable. It's kinda cool though

Any special talents? I can make bubble sound effects. I can solve a rubix cube. I can bend just the top joint of my pinkie finger. My thumbs bend backwards. Actually useful special talents? no not really lol

Scary movies or happy endings? Happy endings usually. But this is mainly just cause I barely watched anything ever so most movies I have watched I watched when I was a kid. But I do love horror as a genre and I have a whole lot of horror movies I want to watch so my answer might change

Where were you born? Aoteroa

What are your hobbies? A lot of drawing, in theory dnd (but I hardly ever play so mostly its just worldbuilding for fun), playing music, I go through phases of various handcrafts

Do you have any pets? I say i have 3 1/2 cats, They're of varying levels of feralness. Gonzo who was a kitten when we found him is basically just a house cat. Spud will occasionally cuddle but is pretty skittish. Lion you can pat sometimes but he's really scared of people, and Nala is basically a complete wild.

What sports do you play/have played? I did ballet for like 7 years growing up. I played one season of football (soccer if you're american). And then on and off muay thai, mma, and wrestling

How tall are you? 5'3

Favourite subject in school? Drama or history probably. I was a chemistry nerd but I dropped it as a subject. It got to much about the maths for me

Dream job? For the most part I don't have one, I do not dream of labor etc etc. But for the sake of the question I'd like to be a tattoo artist. I dunno I just want a job that I can be a functional person and make art and have hobbies and live my silly little life. And I need to be able to make art in some form or else I will simply die so. whatever I can manage

Can I still share some best and worst moments? I'm going to anyway: (for most of these I'm the DM unless I state otherwise)

The Bear Incident. So, it was the first session for 2/3 of the players, characters: Nivaira and Hecate (third player, character: Izumi was also new to DND but not at the table at the time as they couldn't make it :( ), and Nivaira and Hecate had to go to Ammon, an important NPC's house. As their first ever combat encounter, I gave them a very nerfed down Angry Bear in the Road. Nivaira and Hecate both ran past the bear. A few hours later ingame, Izumi and another NPC, Relania walked along the same road. Izumi and Relania started fighting the bear, eventually killing it. A few sessions later, they discovered that the bear had a bounty on its head. So, they took the bounty, and was asked for proof of death (usually means a head, right?). The party took. The Entire Bear. Into the town. The bounty giver was utterly confused as to why they've done this, and now my party dislikes him. I don't think they'll be taking many bounties from him for a while...

Bad Players (not the same group!). So, another party I used to DM had characters Nala, Torrin, Azriel, Varayel and Sariel (NPC, because it used to be just Nala in the party but then more ppl joined and nobody wanted Sariel to leave-). The party was looking for Lana, another NPC who used to be in the party when it was just Nala, who had gone missing. Azriel and Varayel, iirc were not there for this session, but we'd had weeks of filler sessions and I wanted to kickstart the story again, so I decided to give Nala a plothook. Cato, Lana's brother, appeared, going around a corner. Nala, instead of listening to the obvious plot hook, sat down in the middle of the road and ate a sandwich. In game. They did not even have sandwiches. Suffice to say, Nala and Torrin (who was only there to be Nalas bf) left the party soon after. The campaign stopped for other reasons.

Plant Research (ending with a nicer story). After the events of the Bear Incident, the good party got given a mystery quest, in which a girl, Ruby, needs escorting to her grandma's house in the woods. The party seem to thing Grandma Winnie is a hag, no idea where they got that idea from! Anyway, they stalked the two for a bit, and saw Winnie and Ruby picking some plants that look poisonous to the party. So the party. Spent hours. Researching these plants. Asking the Apothecary/herbalist, looking at Ammon's private library for any mention. I had not planned the plants to be even a thing. I had to make up on the spot some plants that are similar to Nettles how there's Dead Nettles (which are fake nettles) and actual Stinging Nettles with poison in. Really tested my improv skills that session and I'm so glad Hecates player takes notes BC I have forgotten the name of the plants and any and all info about them.

Is your character pessimistic or optimistic? Why are they this way? How has this outlook affected their actions?

Nala (DnD, and most of the time goes by "Mausi" lmao) is very optimistic. Partially because she's still very young (A few weeks ago she turned 5, which is her species's equivalent of 18), and she's been fairly sheltered before her journey. Happily adopted, etc. Her optimism took a hit after her Uncle Uvi died in a battle against some small fire bat-like monsters, but thanks to the powers of necromancy, he was revived, allowing Mausi to go back to her usual optimism. The world it just so BIG and there's so many INTERESTING THINGS and so many people you can HUG!!! She hugs just about everyone she meets. For the record, she's a 55cm (1'10'') small mouse, and she has hugged the 3m long cobra leader of the assassin's guild.

Lyla (World of Darkness) is also fairly optimistic. There's no specific reason, she just believes that most people are inherently good, even if there are bad people in the world as well. She doesn't ask for anything back if she helps people out (a rarity among World of Darkness vampires), and will always try negotiation before fighting. Unless you hurt her friends including her pets, in which case, she will cut you on half (as she has done with a miniboss who targeted her dog).
