If you want to be charitable to Arzest about the boss design of Sonic Superstars- and having just finished Trip Mode, I don't- the line of thinking must have been "well, if we don't have lives and game overs, and the timer is just there for legacy/score purposes, we can make the boss fights much more involved!"

Which could have been fine, but when the first phase of your final boss takes 3 fucking minutes with optimal play, maybe... maybe don't. Maybe don't fucking do that.
