Sonic Drive-In Franchise Locations Fined $71K
SDI of Neil LLC allowed children to operate dangerous equipment and pays $71K in fines. RENO, NV (STL.News) Federal investigators have found the operator of six Nevada Sonic Drive-In locations illegally allowed 14- and 15-year-old teenagers to work more hours and at times not permitted by federal child labor regulations and assigned them to operate manual deep fryers, a task considered a hazardous occupation. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division determined SDI of Neil LLC, which operates as Sonic Drive-In, committed more than 170 violations of the child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Specifically, investigators learned the Reno-based employer allowed the young workers to operate fryers without automatic fry baskets that move food in and out of hot oil and grease, which are prohibited jobs for workers under age 16. To resolve its child labor violations, SDI of Neil LLC and the company’s owners Taylor M. Cain, Ian N. Cain, and Quinn M. Cain, paid $71,182 in civil money penalties. The division also recovered $274 in overtime back wages and liquidated damages for two young workers denied overtime pay for hours over 40 in a workweek by the employer. Investigators also determined the employer hired one employee who was then 13 years old, which is under the legal age for employment in restaurants and other non-agricultural jobs. “While learning new skills in the workforce is valuable as teens grow up, federal law dictates how employers must protect children by making sure their first jobs are safe and that they do not interfere with their education or well-being,” explained Wage and Hour Division District Director Gene Ramos in Las Vegas. “The Fair Labor Standards Act allows for developmental experiences but restricts the employment of young workers in certain jobs and provides for penalties when employers do not follow the law. We encourage employers, young workers, their parents, and other stakeholders to take advantage of our many online resources or to contact the division for additional guidance.” The division’s investigation included the following Sonic Drive-In locations: - 1856 E. College Parkway - Carson City - 6250 S. Virginia St. - Reno - 2070 Reno Highway - Fallon - 1220 N. McCarran Blvd. - Reno - 1652 Highway 395 - Minden - 4995 Galleria Parkway - Sparks Specifically, the division found SDI of Neil LLC and its owners employed 14- and 15-year-old children illegally as follows: - Before 7 a.m., later than 7 p.m. on days between Labor Day and June 1, and later than 9 p.m. on days between June 1 and Labor Day. - More than 3 hours per day on school days, more than 18 hours a week in a school week, more than 8 hours on a non-school day, and more than 40 hours in a non-school week. From fiscal year 2018 to 2022, the department identified child labor violations in more than 4,000 cases, finding more than 15,000 children employed in violation. Room for Coincidence - Chapter 1
(@enviep1 on instagram)
Summary: With admissions approaching, you only had a few more shifts at a gentlemen’s club in Las Vegas. You weren’t expecting to meet the most infatuating men so close to your final shift.
Characters: Levi, Erwin, Reader.
Rating: Mature (for swearing and eventual smut) minors DNI
Warnings: swearing, stripping and uhm… heated dancing
Notes: it’s taken me so long to push myself to post this - this is my first time writing a series so I hope you enjoy
LAS VEGAS, NV, UNITED STATES.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 19TH, 2018
You loved your job. However, the reputation wasn’t the best, that’s why you usually kept it a secret. Of course, when you tell someone you’re a dancer they’re bound to be a little shocked, judgemental, you get the gist.
It paid the bills, exceedingly well. Well enough you could afford Chanel handbags, 7” heels, Dior lip gloss, etc.
Admissions Tests to a prestigious law school were approaching very soon, and if you passed you’d be straight out of this gaudy place and on a plane to New York. It’s been your dream since you first learned what the word ‘crime’ meant.
You apply one last coat of your cherry red, Dior lipstick and smirk. You check your ‘schoolgirl’ outfit, making sure nothing is falling out and smile to yourself. Waving to a girl doing her makeup next to you, you strut to the stage, to the centre pole. Your boss always said you were a spectacular dancer, especially on the front lines.
Levi groaned, hearing the snickers of his colleagues - he immediately knew they were up to something, even Erwin was untying his blindfold rather excitedly.
“Voilà!” Erwin beams, revealing the neon lights of… Levi searches around- for fucks sake, a gentleman’s club? You’ve gotta be kidding him.
“You’re joking,” Levi moans, distaste clear in his tone.
“C’mon Levi, like I said - let loose a little! We’re in Sin City! There’s no need to shy away, I’m as eager as I know you are, deep down.” He smirks, Levi finds himself getting irritated at the man’s shit-eating grin he’s seen far too much over the past few days.
“Just 20 minutes,” Levi practically growls - stomping to the back of the line leading to the club’s entrance.
“Good man,” Erwin’s hands squeeze his shoulders, encouragingly. He’s happy with what he’s enabled, forcing Levi out of his shell. He wasn’t as stiff as he was when they first met, but that’s just Levi - he accepts that.
Their colleagues enthusiastically follow them, chattering amongst themselves rather boisterously.
Downing a shot of tequila, you return to the pole you were dancing on earlier and find two different men sitting in front of you.
The men usually sitting close to the stage are rich, snobby old men that chuck whatever spare change they have - but the ‘spare change’ to them are hundreds of dollars, and that’s why you love your job. If pleasing sweaty old men will earn you thousands of bucks per weekend night, you’ll happily do that.
These two are seemingly different, though. One’s rather small, the other rather large. Like George and Lenny, but you figure the big one is pretty smart and successful after identifying his suit’s brand. Yeah, must be pretty powerful, and built - you notice his biceps almost ripping through his blazer when he lifts the glass of golden liquid to his lips.
The short one looks scary, attractive, however. He doesn’t wanna be here, forced by the big guy you assume. You wonder what they do for a living, if they have partners, if they’re gonna ask for a private dance (considering the way they’re both taking in your appearance, devouring every wrinkle in your stomach as you twist around the pole, every movement you make with your cherry lips.)
That’s until you bite your bottom lip, they both synchronically look into your eyes. Piercing blue, striking grey- their eyes alone are beautifully intoxicating, intimidating, intriguing.
You waltz back into the dressing room, deciding to come out to play.
Swiftly sitting onto the short man’s lap, you bring his martini to his lips, intently watching his adam’s apple bob as he swallows.
“Mister I think I need a little help with my anatomy homework,” you whisper, wiping the bit of liquid that spilt from his lips. “Can you help me?”
“That’s not his department, sweetheart - Although I’m quite educated in that subject…” His friend interrupts, smirking tauntingly.
“What’s your name?” You bite your lip.
The bigger man licks his lips, “Erwin Smith.” He slips your hand into his, soft, and kisses your knuckles.
You blush, “how charming, Mr Smith.” You play with Levi’s tie, he looks up at you - eyes staring deeply into yours like he’s trying to inspect you closely. “And you?”
He shivers, tingles running from his neck to his spine. Swallowing dryly, he let out an unprepared, “Levi…”
You smile sweetly, feet swinging excitedly. “Now, Levi and Mr Smith, you look like you’d be interested in a little… privacy.”
“And what makes you think that?” Erwin asks, eyebrows raising as he takes a sip from his glass.
You bite your tongue, barely holding back from ruining all of this. They’re the ones ogling you like you’re a piece of meat - they’re lucky you’re even here!
“Because, I think I’d like that too,” you playfully giggle.
A few of their colleagues catch wind of this, chanting, pushing Levi and Erwin into getting a private dance from you.
Levi scoffs, “lead the way, Cherry.”
You oblige, taking both of their hands into one of yours, and leading them into the private rooms.
“Cherry?” You ask.
“Your perfume, it’s deceiving to wear such an innocent scent when you’re clearly a little minx,” Levi casually mumbles, Erwin is quite taken aback.
Levi has had quite a lot of women in his life, but considering how sceptical he was of this place earlier, he’s surprised, to say the least.
“Pink’s a nice colour on you,” Erwin muses.
“What? I’m not even wearing pink,” you reply.
Levi points at your cheeks, grinning as a surge of confidence floods his veins.
You wish you could recall what happened in those private rooms, but your memory is foggy.
The lights dim down, ties are loosened, collars opened, blazers are thrown on the back of their chairs. Mist rolls into the room, the atmosphere is lit by dark, pink lights. The temperature is benevolent, but after a few minutes of dancing so closely, your body heat radiates and turns the room hot. Sensual music fogs your thoughts, blaring so loud you feel the floor vibrate under your heels.
There are brief moments, clouded by hot and heavy hands touching your body. Both seated opposite sides from you, you dance in between them both.
You remember keeping their hands off you for the first 5 minutes. Then you found yourself craving their touch, allowing Erwin to grip your waist and grunting deeply as you grind into him. What was going on?
Levi managed to restrain himself, but he was a ticking time bomb as got even more worked up than Erwin. That’s all you remember, you’d never allow any men to touch you like that - but there was something about these men.
Erwin had never gotten this aroused before, he couldn’t believe he was so attracted to a stripper. He’d only ever been interested in successful women his age, but then there’s you: young, mustn’t be younger than 21, an erotic dancer at a bar in Las Vegas. Jesus Christ, there’s something about you that’s dangerous, really fucking dangerous.
Levi was the same, thoughts racing through his mind - but his main priority was trying not to fucking jizz his pants like a teenager. If Erwin knew what was happening to Levi, he’d never live it down. Fortunately for Levi, Erwin was in the same situation.
They stayed for a while after their dance, waiting for your shift to end.
The two men manage catch you in the parking lot, trailing you like puppies.
Lit by only a few streetlights and the glowing moon, the car park was peaceful. There are barely any cars, a few in the back fogged up by god knows what. It’s chilly, being so cold at night - you wish you’d bought a jacket with you. You pace towards the sidewalk when you see a cab approaching, calling it over as quickly as you can.
“Yes?” You ask, strolling towards the car.
“You’re a really good dancer,” Levi has to jog to catch up to you.
“You’re just saying that because I gave you a lap dance,” you remark, turning around to him and Erwin.
“Technically, you did also ride me,” he mumbles.
“You sure as hell did that to me too,” Erwin chuckles.
Blushing, you wipe the smile from your face, “it was part of the routine..”
“Yeah right. Can we get your number? We’re in Las Vegas for a few more days-“
You cut Erwin off, “I’m sorry Mr Smith. I had a fun time with you both but I’m not allowed, bosses orders.” You slide into the open the passenger's seat. You see them both tense, desperately trying to get something out of you before you never see them again. “Thanks for walking me to a cab.”
Levi scoffs, “Can we at least get your name?”
“No, I kind of like Cherry,” you smirk as you close the door and instruct the driver to take you home.
You did want to give them your number, but the next few days would consist of studying, barely sleeping and complete stress. Plus, the attraction you felt towards both of them was so strong, it was… scary. Not once has a man had control of your emotions like this, let alone two?
Rolling the window, you blow a kiss and wave, the goodbye they really, really didn’t want. It’s the least the two men deserve, after patiently waiting for your shift to end. But they wanted to spend time with you, not for you to leave without even telling them your name.
“Fuck,” Levi mumbles, hand pathetically running down his face.
“Jesus Christ,” Erwin chuckles.

Omg PLEASE do a Harry x Draco x Teddy rec list
Your wish is my command, one (1) enabler was all I needed to go ahead 😂 full disclosure, I’m first and foremost a Harry/Teddy shipper and this triad comes second in my heart, but I love it all the same. Hope you enjoy these delicious treats just as much as I do!
Theirs by @malenkayacherepakha (2020, E, 1.1k)
Teddy wants nothing more than to be shared by them.
treat by @onbeinganangel (2021, E, 1.3k)
If anyone was going to figure it out, Teddy knew it would be Draco.
An Irresistible Invitation by @veelawings (2021, E, 1.3k)
A nightcap to celebrate and send Teddy off to Romania sounded casual. Until it wasn’t.
One More by @lqtraintracks (2018, E, 1.6k)
Harry gets Teddy going – and keeps him going; Draco helps finish him off. But with feelings.
we open at the close (hold me close) by @glittering-git and ChuckAl (2021, E, 1.8k)
Teddy gets what he’s always wanted.
It's Okay by @slytherco (2021, E, 2k)
Harry's too afraid to ask for what he really wants. Thankfully, Draco knows him well enough to guess and together, they can take care of Teddy in a way he's wanted them to for a long time. And that's okay.
Heart Is Where the Home Is by @lqtraintracks (2021, E, 2k)
Draco hates Ministry balls. Potter, Draco knows, isn’t too keen on them either and never has been. It’s the only thing they seem to agree on and share. One of the only things.
Sway by @lqtraintracks (2015, E, 3k)
Teddy's been away at work for a month and arrives back home a week early to surprise his lovers.
Three series by @unmistakablyoatmeal (2013, E, 3.4k)
Draco's never one to miss an opportunity. Especially when it comes twice in one night.
Five Years Since Bimbleswats by tryslora (2017, E, 4k)
It’s been five years since Bimbleswats, and Draco thinks that is definitely something worth celebrating.
A Form of Fire by @lqtraintracks (2019, E, 5.7k)
A smutty tale in which Teddy has an authority figure kink—and gets more than he bargained for, the Whomping Willow birch rod really enjoys its job, and damn Draco Malfoy looks good in Harry’s Auror robes.
Teddy, My Beloved series by @nv-md (2021, E, 6k)
Harry's birthday party is the perfect time for everyone to get what they've always wanted.
Happy Birthday Teddy Lupin! by @ladderofyears (2019, E, 7k)
A small tale where Teddy Lupin gets the birthday present that he's wanted forever.
Toeing the Line by @shiftylinguini (2017, E, 8.3k)
Draco wasn’t sure why watching his partner fuck Teddy until he screamed was somehow less morally iffy for Harry than just doing it himself, but Draco wasn’t about to judge. Not when he was balls deep, anyway.
Stopper & Reeve by @vdoshu (2023, E, 10k)
Teddy gets his very first knot stuck in his fleshlight. And somehow that’s not the worst part of his day.
My Name in Your Mouth by @lqtraintracks (2019, E, 19k)
Sometimes, he likes to be owned.
And if you’re feeling particularly naughty, here are two scorching PWPs (I mean, what isn’t a PWP in this list??) with Teddy/others 🔥
Charlie Weasley's Fuck Autobiography by @lqtraintracks (2014, E, 14k)
Charlie doesn't think that this is his Fuck Autobiography. But it so is.
Beg and A Working Night by Anonymous (2018, E, 29k)
Teddy has spent the last fourteen years in America. When he comes back to spend his last year at Hogwarts, he quickly forms one goal: to have Harry and Draco as his Daddies.

Hi! I worked in NV in 2018! Clark County (Las Vegas) is like 70% of the population of the state, and is very very blue. Even the R's are pretty moderate. Washoe (Reno) is a tighter race, but should remain D. I mean, we did our job in NV in 2018 and set it up for 2020 to do great. If somehow he loses in NV I know EXACTLY who to blame and I WILL be publicizing those people's names and phone numbers.

And if today, all you did was hold yourself together, I am proud of you
It has been a year and a half since I’ve blogged (sad, I know). Every year or so, something big happens to me personally and/or in the world we are living in.
As of today, Sunday April 5th 2020, I am feeling the changing effects both personally and globally as we are living through this pandemic (check out my blog post from September 10, 2017 called Re-Building that has a similar theme - albeit no pandemic)
My last blog post in October of 2018 was when I left Austin and moved to Phoenix. It was a few months before I turned 40 and I had never had so many changes fired at me so rapidly in my life. As much as I loved Austin, I was missing my parents and sister and nieces who were all now settled permanently in Vegas. I wasn’t quite ready to return back to Vegas (Austin really changed the person I was when I left Vegas in 2013), so I headed to Phoenix, where my best friend was living. I figured it would be a good mix of some place new and being closer to Vegas.
My entire year in Phoenix was one of the biggest transitions of my life. I had gone from a solid network in Austin and making good money as an apartment locator/rental agent. I started over knowing no one but my best friend, got a job as a leasing manager for an apartment community, and started the education to obtain my Arizona real estate license. The national portion of the exam was not too bad but the state portion of the test was one of the hardest tests I have ever taken in my entire life. I failed not once, not twice but THREE TIMES and then they then decided to change the test AGAIN so that national and state were combined into one test. SO I HAD TO TAKE THE ENTIRE THING OVER AGAIN. I studied my @** off becoming so obsessed with this pursuit that I studied every chance I could, took prep classes and then finally passed! Heartbreakingly, I couldn’t pursue real estate full-time though because of my full-time job so I did what I could shadowing experienced agents and taking classes on my days off.
I’ll try to summarize the next 6 months...I had a falling out with my best friend, one whom I thought would be my forever friend; we were friends for over 16 years. The love of my life drove out from Austin and we tried to live with each other but it just didn’t work...He left and I was heart-broken. I fell into a deep depression. I could hardly do anything. I cried all day and could hardly get out of bed. To be honest, I was surprised that I actually held a job but I guess that was the only thing I looked forward to. I had to seek out professional help and I did, with every painful step. Fast forward to end of summer and I started getting better. With the help of a great therapist, I decided the best decision for me was to move back to Vegas and be close to my family. I needed the support and I wanted to be in their lives.
Once again, I started studying for my real estate license in Nevada (yeah, I know) but luckily Nevada is a reciprocal state and it wasn’t nearly as hard as obtaining my Arizona license. So I am on my 3rd real estate license (TX, AZ, NV) which is pretty cool! As of Decemember of last year I am with SMG Realty working alongside my dear friend Roosevelt, who has been an amazing friend and mentor. Just as I was gaining some momentum THIS HAPPENED...THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC.
Never in my 41 years of life have I experienced something like this! Never in my dad’s (almost) 68 years of life has he experienced something like this! It is a scary time to read about people dying and to be in the dark about such a deadly virus. The world has shut down and we are now all globally going through this together. It has been challenging adapting to this new normal and during this isolated quarantine period I am once again struggling to fight depression.
However, as scary as this is, there have been some positives coming out of quarantine. We are entering a new world. What is special is that it’s a collective experience, not just an individual one. We are being brought back down to the basics, having to be resourceful and find simple ways of exercising, eating and connecting with others! I am also rediscovering my love for reading and writing which were my passions as a kid.
On a personal level the message that has really hit home to me is that there is always going to be a problem, a crisis that is going to hit your life. But you will figure it out, you will get through it and you will be stronger than ever in the long run. It is inevitable that nothing is perfect but EVERYTHING works out the way it is supposed to. Those thoughts have prepared me now for ANYTHING in life no matter how difficult they may be. Through sickness and in health.
I am here for those that need me just as people have helped me when I needed it. Mostly I pray for those sick to recover, that everyone stay healthy and I thank those on the front lines in the healthcare industry and those in the food industry that give us access to food (and honestly some days that is all I look forward to!)
We will get through is! And we will be better than ever. Remember to be gentle with yourself and others. There is only so much we can control..
And if today, all you did was hold yourself together, I am proud of you.

San Juan, Puerto Rico -- In response to the current COVID-19 crisis 80 organizations from Puerto Rico came together to demand that Congress direct the Financial Oversight and Management Board (FOMB) to allow the Government of Puerto Rico to use the more than $9 billion in funds destined for debt payments to instead be used to support Puerto Rican families in this moment of crisis.
The signers urge legislators to direct the FOMB to use the 9 billion dollars in resources to provide community driven investments that would ensure free testing and healthcare services; institute a moratorium on evictions, foreclosures, and utility shutoffs; make sure everyone has access to food; provide school children with the tools necessary to continue their education from home and; increase significant investments of clean, local, sustainable energy sources to stabilize service for millions.
Organizations that have signed on to the letter include the Center for Popular Democracy Action, VAMOS4PR, Diáspora en Resistencia, SEIU, Power 4 Puerto Rico, Boricuas Unidos en la Diáspora, Make the Road New York, CASA, Taller Salud, Colectiva Feminista en Construcción and Construyamos Otro Acuerdo.

Letter requesting Congress direct the FOMB to release 9 billion dollars in reserve account for recovery CODIV-19 efforts in Puerto Rico.
Dear Member of Congress:
We write to you as organizations in Puerto Rico and stateside that are deeply concerned about the impact of COVID-19 on the island. Given Puerto Rico's crumbling healthcare infrastructure and aging population at greater risk of complications, the spread of this virus could result in an unprecedented human catastrophe. Congress should therefore direct the Financial Oversight and Management Board (FOMB) to allow the Government of Puerto Rico to use the more than $9 billion in funds destined for debt payments to instead be used to support Puerto Rican families in this moment of crisis.
Congress, through the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA), made the FOMB the trustee of the Government of Puerto Rico. Over the last three years, Puerto Rico has been hit by a series of natural disasters--hurricanes Maria and Irma, ongoing earthquakes, and now, the COVID-19 pandemic. These disasters have exacerbated an economic crisis, created by decades of budget cuts and neglect, that had left the island with $129 billion in debt and a crumbling infrastructure.
Over the last three years, the FOMB has forced brutal austerity measures that have further crippled health, educational, and other public infrastructures. These severe cuts created a budget surplus that has ballooned to a staggering $9 billion cash reserve as of February 28, 2020 -- the same size as Puerto Rico's entire operating budget in 2017 -- up from $1.8 billion in December 2018.
The federal government has failed to disburse billions of dollars allocated toward a just recovery to Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. Recent earthquakes have compounded Puerto Rico’s distress. Estimated damages reported by hardest-hit local governments on the island exceed $1.4 billion, and the power authority needs significant investment to rebuild one of its main power plants by this summer in order to stabilize service for millions.
Only two months after the earthquakes, with hundreds still living in tents in the south, the island faces yet another disaster. Today, hundreds of thousands are in their homes, struggling to put food on the table for their families and not knowing when their next paycheck will come. To make matters worse, 20.7% of Puerto Rico’s population is over the age of 65, which means that any response that does not provide the necessary support to the island could result in thousands of deaths.
In accordance with §§ 201(b)(1)(B) and 201(b)(1)(J) of PROMESA, it is the responsibility of the FOMB to account for all government services and capital expenditures that must be provided in order to adequately respond to CODIV-19. This includes providing community driven investments in: (1) ensuring free testing and healthcare services; (2) instituting a moratorium on evictions, foreclosures, and utility shutoffs; (3) making sure everyone has access to food; (4) providing school children with the tools necessary to continue their education from home and; (5) significant investments in clean, local, sustainable energy sources to stabilize service for millions.
The fiscal plan should be revised to reflect these expenditures instead of ever-increasing austerity measures. We must prioritize these critical investments in the public health and safety of Puerto Ricans over debt repayments. Continuing to prioritize austerity measures for the sake of debt repayment will undoubtedly result in preventable deaths. Upon certification of a revised fiscal plan, these funds must be made readily available through any necessary legal and budgetary actions.
For all of these reasons, we believe that Congress should direct the Fiscal Management Oversight Board to allow the Government of Puerto Rico to use more than $9 billion in funds destined for debt payments to be used to support Puertto Rican families in this moment of crisis. Not doing so could spell disaster for hundreds of thousands.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely,

Las Vegas, NV
– Members of UNITE HERE’s Culinary and Bartenders Unions have voted to authorize a citywide strike. 25,000 union members participated in two voting sessions throughout the day and 99% voted yes.
Union contracts covering 50,000 union workers expire on June 1, 2018 at 34 casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown Las Vegas, including properties operated by MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment Corporation, Penn National, Golden Entertainment, Boyd Gaming, and other companies.
50,000 hospitality employees who are preparing to go out on strike after June 1 include: Bartenders, guest room attendants, cocktail servers, food servers, porters, bellman, cooks, and kitchen workers employed at the casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown Las Vegas.
“A strike is a last resort. We want to come to an agreement, but the union and workers are preparing for a citywide strike if contracts are not settled by June 1,” said Geoconda Argüello-Kline, Secretary-Treasurer for the Culinary Union.
“We support innovations that improve jobs, but we oppose automation when it only destroys jobs. Our industry must innovate without losing the human touch. That's why employers should work with us to stay strong, fair, and competitive.”
“I voted yes to go on strike to ensure my job isn’t outsourced to a robot,” said Chad Neanover, a prep cook at the Margaritaville, a Caesars Entertainment property. “We know technology is coming, but workers shouldn’t be pushed out or left behind. Casino companies should ensure that technology is harnessed to improve the quality and safety in the workplace, not as a way to completely eliminate our jobs.”
“I don’t want to go on strike, but I will,” said Adela Montes de Oca, a guest room attendant at the Aria, an MGM Resorts International property. “The company is more profitable than ever because of the hard work we do, and I’m going to keep fighting to make sure that we have a fair share of that success.”
The Culinary and Bartenders Unions are negotiating new contract language to provide greater measure of security for members including workplace safety, sexual harassment, subcontracting, technology, and immigration. In addition, the Union’s economic proposal seeks to provide workers a fair share of the employers’ enormous anticipated cash flows and Trump tax windfalls.
In 1984, thousands of Culinary Union members went on a citywide strike across the Las Vegas Strip for 67 days which crippled in the Las Vegas hospitality industry until contracts were settled.
The Culinary and Bartenders Unions are encouraging Nevada locals, elected officials, political candidates, and tourists to support workers by not patronizing hotels and casinos in case there is a labor dispute on or after June 1, 2018. In an event of a strike, please do not cross picket lines.
The Culinary Union, Nevada’s largest union, maintains www.VegasTravelAlert.org, a website intended as a service for meeting and convention planners and all other travelers who need to know whether labor disputes could affect their plans in Las Vegas.
Labor contracts for the below 34 casino resorts expire midnight May 31, 2018:
ABOUT THE CULINARY UNION:
“Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165, Nevada affiliates of UNITE HERE, represent over 57,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno, including at most of the casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip and in Downtown Las Vegas. UNITE HERE represents 270,000 workers in gaming, hotel, and food service industries in North America.
The Culinary Union, through the Culinary Health Fund, is one of the largest healthcare consumers in the state. The Culinary Health Fund is sponsored by the Culinary Union and Las Vegas-area employers. It provides health insurance coverage for over 143,000 Nevadans, the Culinary Union’s members and their dependents.
The Culinary Union is Nevada’s largest immigrant organization with over 57,000 members - a diverse membership that is approximately 55% women and 54% Latino. Members - who work as guest room attendants, bartenders, cocktail and food servers, porters, bellmen, cooks, and kitchen workers - come from 173 countries and speak over 40 different languages. The Culinary Union has been fighting for fair wages, job security, and good health benefits for working men and women in Nevada for 83 years.”

Bowl Previews: December 15
It’s that time of year again! Bowl season is a celebration of a job well done and a fun time for players and fans to go to unusual places and face new teams. The first day is jam packed with games, most of them are G5-only affairs.
Cure Bowl: Tulane 6-6 (5-3) vs Louisiana-Lafayette 7-6 (5-3) (Orlando, FL)
This should be the New Orleans Bowl matchup but they didn’t let me make the decisions. Tulane is playing in their first bowl game in five years and their first under head coach Willie Fritz. The Green Wave rallied from a 2-5 start (with an assist from the schedule letting up a little bit) to enter a three-way tie for first place in the AAC West division. The rebuild is on track.
Louisiana-Lafayette was the champions of the Sun Belt’s West division, finishing the regular season with a 7-5 record before losing to Appalachian State in the first ever Sun Belt Championship Game. The Ragin’ Cajuns are bowling in Billy Napier’s first season and the future looks bright. It’s the first time that ULL is playing in a bowl that isn’t in New Orleans.
-
New Mexico Bowl: Utah State 10-2 (7-1) vs North Texas 9-3 (5-3) (Albuquerque, NM)
The most exciting FBS game of the day goes to the matchup between Utah State and North Texas. The Aggies tied with Boise State atop the Mountain West’s Mountain division and have had their best season since 2012. Unfortunately head coach Matt Wells has left the team to lead Texas Tech, but the Aggies have gone far under his leadership and should be proud of their season.
Mean Green coach Seth Littrell almost left, but he’ll in Denton for another season after passing up the Kansas State job. This should leave UNT fans very happy, the team has bowled in each of Littrell’s three seasons. North Texas had a very good year in 2018, one of their best in recent memory. If it wasn’t for UAB’s miraculous run, the Mean Green would have won the West division.
-
Celebration Bowl: North Carolina A&T 9-2 (6-1) vs Alcorn State 9-3 (6-1) (Atlanta, GA)
It’s the HBCU national championship game!
North Carolina A&T has been a mainstay in the Celebration Bowl, making their third appearance in four years. The Aggies won the MEAC after overcoming a few uncharacteristic stumbles. NC A&T is the favorite, and the future looks bright in Sam Washington’s first year at the helm.
Alcorn State is playing in their second Celebration Bowl, having played in the inaugural game where they lost to A&T 41-34. The Braves are 9-1 in games against FCS opponents and proved themselves the best team in the SWAC with a win over Southern. Fred McNair has won the SWAC’s East division in each of his three seasons at the helm.
-
Las Vegas Bowl: Arizona State 7-5 (5-4) vs #21 Fresno State 11-2 (7-1) (Las Vegas, NV)
The only P5 vs G5 matchup on the day and one of the few that will be played this bowl season. Many people, myself included, scoffed at the idea of Herm Edwards doing well at Arizona State. The Sun Devils aren’t quite improved from the level they played at under Tod Graham, but they haven’t fallen off either, and it’s only Edwards’ first year at the helm.
Fresno State will be the definite favorites in this game. The Bulldogs have proved themselves to be one of the best G5 teams in the country two years straight. Fresno has a pretty good offense and a defense that will give ASU a very hard time. There’s a reason that the Bulldogs are the Mountain West Champions, and they have a great chance to be one of the select few teams to win 12 games in 2018.
-
Camellia Bowl: Georgia Southern 9-3 (6-2) vs Eastern Michigan 7-5 (5-3) (Montgomery, AL)
Eagle bowl! It’s not a very sexy matchup, but this game is a happy moment for both programs. Eastern Michigan, the perennial punching bag of the MAC, is bowling for just the second time since 1987. Chris Creighton has done a masterful job bringing the Eagles to respectability and after last year’s hard luck season EMU should celebrate playing a warm(ish) weather game in December.
Georgia Southern led a charmed existence in the FCS, and continued their success upon their transition to the highest level. Then coach Willie Fritz left and the Eagles plummeted under Tyson Summers. Chad Lunsford has taken GSU back to their beloved triple option and in just one year has Georgia Southern competing in the Sun Belt once more. Neither won a division, but they’ve both made great progress this season.
-
New Orleans Bowl: Middle Tennessee 8-5 (7-1) vs Appalachian State 10-2 (7-1) (New Orleans, LA)
It’s a battle between the Sun Belt champion and the Conference USA runner-up. Middle Tennessee has carved out a nice little niche for themselves and are playing in their fourth bowl game in a row. This was the first division title that the Blue Raiders have won in their six seasons in C-USA.
Appalachian State has carved out an even better niche in the Sun Belt. The Mountaineers are perennial contenders for the league crown, have won their third straight conference championship, and the first ever Sun Belt title game. Unfortunately head coach Scott Satterfield has already left for Louisville, but App State will certainly be the favorite in this contest.

Are You Moving To Henderson? 7 Things You Need To Know BEFORE YOU MOVE!
So, you're thinking about moving to Henderson, NV. Maybe you just landed a job there, or you merely want to experience something new. Whatever the reason may be, you want to consider the pros and cons before hiring a team of Henderson movers. Here are seven things you should know about Henderson before you make the move.
1. Crime Rates Several sources have reported that Henderson, NV, is ranked the second-safest city in the United States. According to research conducted by AdvisorSmith, Henderson had a relatively low crime rate in 2020 compared to other large cities in the country. The report shows that 10.7 violent crimes and 14.3 property crimes are committed per 1,000 residents per year. This is excellent news because it is safer than Las Vegas, where crime rates are much higher. However, it would be best to consider installing a security system in your home, as residential break-ins occasionally happen. 2. Family Friendly Henderson is more family-friendly compared to other cities. For example, unlike Las Vegas, where many places do not permit children, Henderson has plenty of delightful sites with activities for the whole family, such as parks, nature trails, and other fun attractions. Numerous shopping centers, hotels, and restaurants are located in the city, so families can shop, lodge, and dine to their hearts' content. Spas and retreats are also available if you want to relax and pamper yourself. Additionally, families can thrive with a more suburban feel without too much hustle and bustle. Attractive neighborhoods filled with luxurious yet affordable houses make Henderson a lovely place to settle down. Plus, if you want to see a show or attend an event in Las Vegas, it's only a 20-minute drive away. However, a drawback is that Nevada is notorious for having a poor public school system. If you feel you would like your child to have better educational opportunities, you should consider reputable private schools (although costly) in the vicinity. 3. Climate and Surroundings The weather is nice and sunny in Henderson, and there are plenty of gorgeous mountain views. Lake Las Vegas provides a relaxing, peaceful break from desert surroundings. This city has adventurous hiking trails and lush green golf courses if you enjoy outdoor activities. Lake Las Vegas also makes water-related activities, such as boating and flyboarding, possible. Captivating views of wildlife make this location a great area to settle in if you are a nature/ animal lover. Stunning varieties of flowers and plants occupy this region along with animals like sheep, deer, pronghorns, and tortoises. Remember, predictors like coyotes and poisonous snakes can be around, too, so make sure you are careful and vigilant when watching your children and pets. It can get pretty hot and dry in the desert, so be prepared. Temperatures can go over 105 °F (40.6 °C) in the summer, making it easy to get heatstroke if you are not careful. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water because dehydration is a potential threat due to the climate's dry heat. 4. Cost of Living By moving to Henderson, NV, you could save yourself some extra money since Nevada has a relatively lower cost of living than the expensive nearby state of California. Furthermore, the property taxes are lower. Nevada's state and local property tax collections per capita in the fiscal year 2018 were about $1,044, whereas, in California, it was approximately $1,680. Furthermore, Nevada has no state income tax, which means less money coming out of your paycheck. On the other hand, California's state income tax rates can be as high as 13.3%. The downside is that there are fewer high-paying job opportunities. Because the focus is mainly on tourism, there is a slew of seasonal jobs that leave workers unemployed during the off-seasons. For instance, people will find work near Christmastime, but jobs will quickly end after the holiday season comes to a close. The poverty rate for Nevada is 12.5% based on the percentage of people who had incomes below the poverty line ($25,926) for a family of four in 2019. Henderson has an overall poverty rate of 7.9%, which is slightly better than the overall state's. 5. Traffic Because the area is extensive, a personal vehicle might be necessary to get around. On the bright side, the traffic is better in Henderson in comparison to the urban area of Las Vegas. However, if you live out in Henderson but work in Las Vegas, you might have to make a commute, which is around 20 minutes or longer if traffic is significantly backed up. 6. Demographics Henderson is not a very diverse city, with most of the population being white. People who identify as Hispanic or Latino only make up 16.8%, African Americans make up 6%, and Asians make up 8.2%. 7. Water Quality and Supply In the past, magnesium production for the U.S. military during World War II was in Henderson. After the war, the area remained an important center for the chemical production of components of rocket fuel. At the time, harmful wastes were not disposed of properly and created complications in the soil and water supply. Since then, serious efforts were made to clean up these hazardous materials to make the city suitable for living. It has been reported that most of the harmful wastes are cleaned up, and the water is safe to drink. Because Southern Nevada is one of the driest communities in the country, droughts are not that uncommon, and the vulnerability of its limited water resources is evident. Therefore, community efforts to conserve water are practiced in this location. The Takeaway Although there are some cons to moving to Henderson, NV, there are plenty of pros to consider. Deciding what is most important to you will help guide you in making your final decision. Ask yourself if the pros outweigh the cons and if you can picture yourself living in this location. If living in a family-friendly suburban community would fit your lifestyle, then you should think about relocating to this beautiful desert oasis and book a moving company in Henderson right away. Henderson movers will make relocating easier, so you can enjoy your new home in no time!
