Fundamentally, if the democrats lose the presidency in 2024, it will not be because of "voter apathy" or "the idealistic left" or Cornell West or whatever third party candidate the liberals end up blaming. It will be because the democrats have failed to meet the lowest standards of many Americans.

You can talk about strategic voting until you're blue in the face, but fundamentally, people need reasons to vote for a candidate. There are people in this country watching as their family members get slaughtered by American arms, sent to Israel by Joe Biden. You can scold people for voting wrong as much as you want, but fundamentally the way that democrats can win elections is by pursuing good policy. If the only argument you can come up with in favor of Joe Biden is that he won't do 1 or 2 of the terrible things that Trump wants to do, then that will simply not appeal to the people who are most intensely affected by Biden's failures (not to mention people who have moral objections to genocide, even when it doesn't affect them). You can scream and cry all you want, people are not going to just overlook his role in the ethnic cleansing of Gaza just because he is the Less Bad Genocider.

Whether you like it or not, either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump is going to win the election. The voting population not for either do not have enough to elect a third party, especially since none of yall can agree on which candidate you want.

I'm really fucking scared for the upcoming US election. It is looking like a strong chance that there will be a Republican House and presidency.

The US can't take that. The WORLD can't take that. I understand frustration with the Democrats. Goddamn, I really do. But more and more their strategy now seems to be "well young votes and leftists aren't going to vote in large numbers anyways, why listen?"

And yeah, I'm thinking about Palestine. Yeah, I'm thinking of Haiti. I'm not completely self centered. The Right actively wants blood. The dems are shit. The dems will not provide a peaceful solution. But the republicans are on a different, terrifying level.

And yeah, I'm selfish. I'm also terrified for me, and the people I love. I'm terrified for my medication, both for transition, ADHD, and others, that are specifically vilified by the right. I'm terrified for my career, which is dependent on federal funding. I'm terrified for the protected lands I've learned to love. I'm terrified for indigenous peoples. I'm terrified for my immigrant friends.

If you're taking a moral stand by not voting, or not voting Democrat, that is a choice written in Palestinian blood. And Haitian blood. And whatever other country the US has fucked up, and neglected the people of. You can take that moral stand if you want to. But you need to realize the cost.

And of fucking course it doesn't stop at voting. Don't be complicit in genocide. A vote is not complicity. As that other popular post said, a vote is choosing your opponent. And there's less terrifying opponent here.

As much as I would like to commit the gauche sin of "I told you so" on the debate of "Are Republicans & Democrats exactly the same on Israel/Palestine" (lol), even I am pretty shocked at how rapidly the gap has expanded. I did not have floating forcibly expelling the population of Gaza to build a casino resort on my bingo card, I don't wanna pretend that I did. I do think it reflects the animating structure of the Trump Admin has been intensely ambitious and having a "Gordian Knot" focus on doing things no one else could do, and most saw that coming as a general vibe, but still. Man.

Ironically I am someone who has discussed this option before - I am a huge skeptic of the idea that Gaza & the West Bank, two spatially-separated territories walled off by a hostile state, are gonna be one functional polity. It just isn't geographically feasible. I think them being two countries is a fine solution, let the Maritime Grand Duchy of Gaza bloom. But population transfers are a thing and have been decently successful at times. It isn't the ideal solution by any means - it is a ruthlessly painful thing to impose on anyone - but if you have incredibly intractable conflicts sometimes you gotta take the hard roads. Was the 1923 population exchange between Greece & Turkey the only solution to the mass ethnic violence of the proceeding years? No, but it was a solution, it did work. I have humility in the face of that.

But the lynchpin of that exchange is that both sides agreed to it. Greece and Turkey were both actual states, the Greeks in Turkey thought of Greeks-in-Greece as their countryman, and vice versa. There was buy-in by elites across both borders who got the people to go along. And in Israel-Palestine, that option could be on the table! After all, the West Bank - the State of Palestine - is right there! And hey, Israeli even has a bunch of settlements in the de jure territory of Palestine that they are using to contest those borders, the people of Palestine really hate those. And meanwhile Israel really wants to kill Hamas, an org buried in the tunnels of Gaza but not the West Bank, and wants to denude the security threat the Strip poses for them.

You can see the deal here, right? Israel swaps the Gaza Strip for the dismantlement of a bunch of West Bank settlements, and the populations get swapped, you stabilize the borders, and now have cohesive governance chunks. Obviously this does not Solve Every Problem, hell I don't endorse this idea (Hamas is, uh, gonna get a vote guys - with bullets). But if you were going to propose this concept, then this would be the logical thing to propose. This is the viable-ish solution in this idea space.

If peace was your primary goal of course - but it isn't, Israel is full of shit. They won't countenance making the PLO stronger and more coherent because they hate that shit and want to colonize the West Bank! And the Trump admin doesn't really care either, obviously. It is jut a very stark reminder of how little they care - they didn't even bother pretending.

Looks like the Pro Palestine movement shat the bed completely. There's definitely been a vibe shift ever since they turned on Black people. The DNC protests were a bust. Not to say these lingering ones aren't dangerous (they're probably even more dangerous than the bigger crowds at the encampments last semester) but they're just not attracting the same energy they used to.

There isn't jack shit we get for any of this, either. Our gun laws are atrocious. Our homelessness problem is out of hand. We don't get livable cities, transit, or infrastructure. You have recently had a whole lot of blogs post pro Palestine content to gain followers, before starting to shit on Kamala Harris and telling people not to vote for her and to just not vote at all.

Whilst it probably isn't Russian propaganda meant to get people to vote trump as they're telling people to just not vote, it's definitely propaganda to try and skew the election through voter turn out. Republicans have a higher voter turnout than democrats.

And it's likely that trump hasn't even signed off on these bot or farm accounts, there are many countries like Russia and Iran who benefit from Trump becoming president, enough so that they could be doing this of their own volition.

Truly apologetic for what I did to yalls dash tonight. I genuinely did not think I would spam that much because I didn't think I'd hear something bonkers every other minute.

I think theres a couple key take aways here though:

Kamala Harris was able to circle back to what policies she wanted to enact just about every time. Where as Trump would only refute her and attack her (or Biden)

Trump would repeatedly dodge yes or no questions

When talking about Israel and Palestine, Harris brought up wanting the war to stop, wanting a ceasefire, a two state solution, and that although Israel had a right to defend itself it has gone too far and should abide by international law.

In response Trump said she hated Israel and Arabs? For some reason?

Trump kept interrupting and for some reason they kept turning on his mic when it wasn't his turn

Trump said he didn't have a plan for healthcare, he only has concepts of a plan, because he isn't president. (This was in response to the fact that he said he would do something about the ACA during his presidency)

Trump claimed Democrats wanted abortion in the seventh, eighth, ninth month as well as "execute" babies after theyre born. (He was immediately fact checked)
