jake oettinger via fanatics view — 2024 nhl all-star media day — 02.01.24
[you and wedgewood are tight. i just wonder, what makes a good backup in the NHL these days? you know, it’s a bit of a changing dynamic, workload, and, you know, some teams have three goalies. like, what works between you two, what makes scott good as that number two.] yeah, i think, first and foremost, like, we just root for each other really hard, i think that’s, like — you can say that, you know, but not everyone really means it and you know, i know when i’m in there he means … he wants me to do my best, and he knows that when he’s in there i’m pulling for him. and we push each other a ton and … he’s just a great guy to have around, like, even — you know, if he was a — not a goalie, if he was just a guy on the team, we’d be good friends too, so, he’s just a great dude and i’m lucky to share the crease with him and we push each other a lot, we both wanna, you know, be the number one guy, so, um. you know, i know if i, you know, take my foot off the gas, that he’s gonna take over, so. [i know you’ve been, like — say, at the program, you were there with woll, you guys probably shared, but like — you guys were younger, were you at times, like, i’ve gotta check myself and be a little bit more positive?] yeah, for sure, i think that’s a — i mean, that’s the thing, like, about being a goalie. there’s only one net, right? so it’s … it’s a hard position, um … and for me, obviously, i want to play as much as i can and, you know — someone else doing poor doesn’t, uh, — like, help me in any way, you know what i mean? like, i know if i play my best then i’m gonna be the number one, so that’s kind of the only thing i focus on. i’ve had great relationships with every goalie i’ve played with and, um … i’m looking to do that the rest of my career.
uh, one piece of sports memorabilia you wish you could own?
well, for my whole career i was dying to get a henrik lundqvist signed stick and i just got one, like, two weeks ago, so it was, like, the best gift i’ve ever gotten in my life, so.
how’d you finally get it?
uh, my guy at bauer hooked me up. he, like, had a case? a bauer thing, and i thought it was gonna be an all-star stick. and he was like, open it up, and i opened it up, and it was one of his used sticks signed and it was … coolest thing i own.
how would you change NHL overtime rules?
i think i would do … ten minute overtime.
three on three still?
three on three still. and then maybe … try that for a bit, and if it didn’t work, maybe do no, uh — ‘cause, like, it’s such a big … everyone wants to keep possession, maybe do a no over-and-back rule.
finally – i know i’m asking a goalie this question – on a scale from one to ten, how superstitious are you?
i’m gonna go, like … four, five.
yeah?
pretty low, yeah. you can ask my fiancée, my teammates, my friends. it’s nothing too crazy, just go out there and have fun.
i’m doing a story on PWHL minnesota team. i just think that minnesota fans are amazing, because they watch those women from all the way out here. for someone who’s from minnesota, can you tell me what that environment is like?
yeah, it’s so special, i think, like, boys and girls high school hockey there is just, like, so important, uh … it’s kinda like football in texas, that’s what i compare it to, and, uh — i played in the state tournament, um, my freshman year in high school and that was, like, one of my favorite hockey memories of my whole career, um, so — it’s just so special, and i think, i mean … when i saw that they had 13,000 or whatever at the x it didn’t surprise me one bit, i mean, it’s the state of hockey for a reason, and, uh, just happy to see that league getting the support they deserve and the ladies getting the recognition they deserve.
are there any minnesota female hockey players who really stand out for you?
um, well, one i was gonna say is, i played with — when i was at BU i played with, uh, abby cook and jesse compher and they’re both in the PWHL now, and, i mean, we got to go watch them win the beanpot, and, i mean, the hockey’s great, you know — these women are so talented and, uh, deserve to have a place where they can play and, you know, get paid just like we do and, um, you know, i think minnesota’s such a good spot for it.
#hockey#stars#dallas stars#jake oettinger#scott & joseph woll are also mentioned but i'm not tagging them. this is character development. almost.#also there's some more stuff from this interview under the cut#some genuinely fun stuff re: the pwhl & how he'd change overtime & hockey memorabilia & his level of superstition!!#but the audio in this video was SO bad that i'm electing not to make myself listen to it ever again. as a kindness.#he did an interview w an official nhl podcast where he ALSO talked at length about wedge + the lundqvist stick. he's got a brand!#that brand is goalie4goalie#he's a goalie's goalie#though i will say on that note ...... saying he'd still be scott's friend even if he wasn't a goalie ......... that's True Love babyyyy#z:edit

i know it's not going to do much, but fuck it. I want fans, both queer and nonqueer, to wear pride merch. Hell, I want fans to actually make their own pride-based hockey memorabilia. I want fans to carry in signs protesting the changes. Even if the league bans them, I want them to do it anyway. I want fans to shout chants supporting players/coaches/gms/whatever that are queer, nonwhite, disabled, neurodivergent, and otherwise a minority. I don't know if there is a way to contact the NHL, but if there is, I want fans to send phone calls and emails to the league expressing their displeasure with how it's being run. I want fans to PROTEST. If the NHL isn't gonna welcome minorities, we'll make them do so.
#again i doubt people will actually do this#but i want it to happen#serious#nhl#hockey#hockey is for everyone#tbh i'd do most of this myself if i could afford to go to games (not that i want to go of course)#but for now i'll stick with making my own memorabilia with what i have#song:serious

johnny gaudreau has been my favorite nhl player since his college days, and I have no words right now. I have multiple jerseys of his, signed memorabilia, but I sadly never got to meet him and tell him how much i loved him as a person and a player. My love for him, if you know me offline, s was unmatched compared to any other player I obsess over online. This world is so cruel and I’m heartbroken. I’m so thankful to have seen him play on multiple occasions, but blue jackets games will not be the same without his #13 on the ice 💔😞

Life as We Know It
You had always thought of your life as planned out. After college, you landed a job as an event coordinator for the Anaheim Ducks, where you got to mingle with players, staff, and other fans. Everything seemed to be falling into place—until the unexpected happened.
Trevor Zegras, the charismatic and talented center for the Ducks, was more than just a coworker to you. He was your best friend, the person you could rely on for a laugh during stressful days at work. But one fateful night changed everything. You had both attended a party thrown by the team, where you watched as Trevor charmed the crowd with his infectious energy.
After a few too many drinks, you ended up back at his apartment, laughing and reminiscing about old times. It was a comfortable space, filled with hockey memorabilia and the scent of his favorite aftershave lingering in the air. You found yourselves talking about everything and nothing, the conversation flowing easily.
Then, as the clock struck midnight, Trevor leaned in closer, the atmosphere shifting. “You know,” he said, his voice low, “I’ve always wondered what it would be like if we crossed that line between friends and something more.”
Your heart raced at his words. You felt the same way, but fear of ruining your friendship held you back. “What if it ruins everything?” you replied, a hint of apprehension in your voice.
He shrugged, a playful smirk dancing on his lips. “Or what if it makes everything better? We’ll never know unless we try.”
In that moment, you made a decision. Maybe life was about taking risks, and perhaps this was the opportunity you’d both been waiting for. So, with a surge of courage, you leaned in and kissed him.
The kiss was electric, igniting a spark between you that had been simmering beneath the surface for years. Trevor pulled you closer, deepening the kiss as you melted into him, feeling all the worries of your world fade away.
As the weeks turned into months, you navigated the complexities of your new relationship. Life as you knew it changed dramatically. You became the couple everyone admired—the one that supported each other through wins and losses. Trevor’s playful banter and charm made you laugh, while you grounded him when the pressures of the NHL got too intense.
However, with the highs came lows. Your relationship was put to the test as the season progressed. Trevor faced scrutiny from the media and fans after a tough loss, and you could see the weight of it on his shoulders.
One evening, after a particularly challenging game, he returned home visibly upset. You could feel the tension in the air as he plopped down on the couch, burying his face in his hands. “I just can’t do this right now,” he mumbled.
You sat beside him, your heart aching for him. “Trevor, it’s okay to feel overwhelmed. Just know that you’re not alone in this. I’m here for you.”
He looked up, his eyes weary. “I don’t want to drag you down with me. You deserve better than this.”
You shook your head, determined to support him. “But I choose to be with you. We can face this together.”
In that moment, Trevor took a deep breath, a hint of gratitude shining through the sadness in his eyes. “I don’t know what I’d do without you,” he admitted.
With the playoffs approaching, you both leaned on each other for strength. Trevor found solace in your unwavering support, and you reveled in the warmth of being there for him through thick and thin.
As the final game of the season approached, the pressure mounted. The stakes were high, and everyone felt the tension. You arrived at the arena, your heart pounding with anticipation. You spotted Trevor warming up on the ice, his focus intense.
The game was exhilarating, filled with ups and downs. You cheered loudly from the stands, your heart swelling with pride as Trevor scored a goal. But as the game progressed, tempers flared, and the intensity escalated. The final moments were a whirlwind, and when the buzzer sounded, you found yourself holding your breath, waiting for the outcome.
As the final score flashed on the screen, the arena erupted into cheers. The Ducks had won, and you felt a rush of elation. You rushed down to the ice, scanning the crowd for Trevor. When you spotted him, you felt your heart soar.
He caught your eye and skated over, a huge grin on his face. “We did it!” he exclaimed, pulling you into a tight embrace. The adrenaline and joy of the victory enveloped you both.
“I knew you could do it!” you shouted, feeling a mix of excitement and relief.
Trevor looked down at you, his expression turning serious for a moment. “I couldn’t have done it without you,” he said, sincerity in his voice. “You’ve been my rock through all of this.”
In that moment, you realized that life, with all its unpredictability, was a beautiful journey. Together, you had faced challenges, celebrated victories, and built a love that defied expectations. And as you stood there, basking in the glow of triumph, you knew that no matter what life threw your way, you would always find a way to navigate it together.

We Could Be the Only Ones Here
Whispering jokes/loving words/dirty talk in a lecture/school/church/meeting/event. Trying not to react in fear of disturbing everyone else who’s trying to pay attention.
part of my Valentines Day prompts requested by @thewintersoldierdisaster | word count: 0.5k | warnings: none!
After a long and grueling season for the Toronto Maple Leafs, you were ready to relax celebrate everything that your boyfriend William did achieve this year. One of which was being nominated for an NHL Award.
William was in the running to receive the Lady Byng trophy and while maybe not the most prestigious award, you were proud of him for being recognized so much this year. First with the All-Star game and now this. It also didn’t hurt that if William won, you would be dating the most gentlemanly player in the league.
The summer sun beats down on you as the two of you walk the red carpet, cameras flashing and fans calling out his name. You happily watch him sign his name onto dozens of jerseys and posters and Leafs memorabilia. Slowly, you two make your way into the main auditorium, finding your seats before the lights go down. You applaud each winner that is announced and politely laugh at the jokes told.
Although, for you, it’s take a tremendous amount of effort to pretend to be amused by the scripted quips because – like most of the NHL’s media – the jokes just weren’t landing. They were dry, stiff, and a little too forced.
“They really need to stop media training you all so well,” you whisper into William’s ear. “Everyone sounds like they’d rather be experiencing a root canal instead of doing this.”
You smile when you feel William’s body shake with laughter; laughter he tries to hold in as to not disrupt the broadcast or the people sitting next to you. His reaction just eggs you on though as you continue.
“Maybe we should get you up there instead of McDavid, who in my opinion has the personality of a wooden plank.”
The dig makes more giggles erupt from William, a few of them escaping from behind the hand clasped over his mouth. The sound of his laughter makes your heart warm, the happiness in it always bringing a smile to your face. It was one of the things you loved about him; his penchant for joy and his love of all the small moments that brought happiness.
“We should get you up there, out of the suit and with a cocktail in your hand. Then maybe you can grab the microphone and admit to everyone in the audience that you’ve sent nudes. Wait. You’ve already done that,” you tease, referencing the talk show he did in Sweden earlier this year.
That joke seems to be the breaking point for William, his laughter falling from his mouth freely as he throws his head back. You laugh with him, leaning into his side. You can’t help but notice the glances thrown in your direction, your combined laughter deemed distracting.
You didn’t care though. Hearing William laugh, seeing him so happy after the demanding and disappointing season… you wanted to make sure he always felt like this. You wanted to keep him in this perfect little bubble of joy, even if only for a little while longer. It showed that he loved you – and you loved him back.
Even if there were a hundred people in the room with you, it felt like the two of you were completely alone. Because being by each other’s side… that was all you ever needed.

Tagged by @zzoomacroom my musical muse & my country cousin @sans--seraph
I used to work at TNSE, if you know what and where that is, it helps. I did Venue Security there, I have met wrestlers, monster tuck drivers, Disney On Ice skaters, Disney singers (Moana), basketball players, current and retired NHL players and coaches, and of course: bands.
• Frint Row: I usually buy the "nose bleeds", but since I know so many people that still work for TNSE, I can usually squeeze onto the floor.
• Own a band tee: I have almost four dozen band tees.
• Made a mix tape: remember recording songs off the radio? I do. I did this.
• Have a crush on an artist: Have you seen Serg Tankian from SOAD or Vessel from Sleep Token? Oh myyy
• Like Rock & Roll: I lean more towards metal, but rock is a good basis of where it started for me
• Hate a band everyone loves: I hate top 40 stuff.
• Own a vinyl: I have a few, but yes.
• Guitar pick: I have picks from Anthrax, Shinedown and a few more
• Play a musical instrument: ocarina, guitar and percussion
• Met an artist or band: too many to list honestly.
• Like disco: man! Disco rocks!
• Been to a festival: I'm attending (as in not working) Sick New World in late April, but I have worked two Summer Of Sounds
• Own an iPod: Dood, I still have my 30gb iPod. It works... kinda.
• Own concert memorabilia: I have a towel from Slipkot, the members used it and tossed it into the crowd. I caught it and was offered $100 for it.
• Have a tattoo in honour of an artist: 👉👈 Yes. I have a Metallica 'ninja star' and the cover of The Wraith by ICP
• Dedicated a song to someone: I dedicated "I Hope You Dance" by to everyone.
• Backstage at a show: unfortunately. It is NOT exciting. I was also working... My favourite show was (oddly) Backstreet Boys. I had to escort them to the Green Room.
• Like Blues Music: You know what? It's not bad!
• Own a CD: 😂 You're kidding, right?! But seriously, I have all of Metallica's stuff, and all of System Of A Down's stuff, I absolutely love my Burn The Priest CD, and I have most of Godsmack's stuff (one signed!) & some Shinedown (signed!)
• Travelled to another country for a show: Absolutely. I saw The Romantics and Trace Adkins in the US and probably a few more, but drinks will make me forget..., and as I've mentioned, I'm going to Sick New World this April in Vegas. It counts cuz I'm not from the ol USA. 😉
Tagging... damn... uhhh @aceflorins @aquilathefighter @thwippersnapple @shadow-schemer @threefill @invadericee @tryan-a-bex @carnelianmeluha @marlowe-zara @missmacfire @brightlyandwithbeautyy & whoever else would love to jump in, I'm far too drunk to tag y'all 🥂

Last post on this, but if you don't wanna give the NHL your money at all, but still wanna watch some hockey, here's some tips: 1. The best way I can say this *WITHOUT* getting banned (or arrested) is: Surf the waves of the internet! Become a pirate! ...You get where I'm going with this (Translation: watch games from some very legal streaming sites). 2. Don't wanna support the NHL at all? Watch minor league hockey or leagues like the AHL or ECHL instead! 3. Watch hockey highlights on YouTube! 4. WATCH WOMEN'S HOCKEY. 5. Not in a hockey mood at all? Consider watching other sports! 6. Make your own hockey memorabilia! 7. RPF writers, now's your time to shine! *nudge nudge wink wink* 8. Support small hockey artists! Remember that the NHL isnt the only hockey league. Hockey is more than the NHL.
#hockey is for everyone#nhl#hockey#and so people dont get the wrong idea THIS IS NOT ME CALLING FOR A BOYCOTT.#because as much as it sucks to say boycotts wont work against the league like the nhl#song:serious

5. favorite piece of hockey memorabilia you own
i have SO much hockey crap, lmao. it's a problem. my puck collection and my jersey collection are both fairly impressive and dear to me, but i would be hard pressed to pick a favorite single item from amongst them, so i am going to pick from the other assorted stuff i have, and the answer then is unequivocally: nicklas backstrom garden gnome.
8. what’s on your hockey bucket list
i want to eventually see a game at every nhl arena! i have gotten to, uh... eight so far? so i have a ways to go 😂 and i would really love to see some games in europe. and, this part is not up to me, but i would REALLY love to go to an all-star game in my own city. come on gary give me this one thing.
16. favorite hockey movie
mighty ducks trilogy babyyyyyyyy. they count as one collective movie To Me. i do also love miracle even though it's unrepentant cold war usa propaganda, sorry for being problematic

Hi Kat! 😀
How about answers for 6, 12, 25, 32, and 48?
6.) if you could choose any place in the world to visit, where would it be? why?
ok, so I have 2 answers for this one. I REALLY want to visit the giraffe hotel. Because who doesn't want to have breakfast with giraffes? And the Bubble Hotel in Iceland because again.... cool! 12.) describe your best friend?
ok, so I'm not sure that I would say that I actually have a best friend. I have a group of friends that all kind of rotate through. 25.) if you could choose only one meal to eat for the remainder of your life, which would you choose? Pizza is probably the easiest answer here, because you can have so many different combinations. Savoury, sweet, meat, veggies.... 32.) favorite piece of memorabilia you own? At this exact moment it's my Gallavich mousepad. Other than that, I have a fairly big collection of NHL crap. 48.) which animal would you be the most terrified to encounter? ok, so I have an absolute bone-deep terror of spiders. So.... even though people say they are harmless, those giant spiders in Australia would probably actually give me a heart attack on sight. 50 Q's asks

5. favorite piece of hockey memorabilia you own
ooh! i don't think of myself as a big memorability collector, outside of shirt. i like souvenir glassware when i can get it, especially souvenir pint glasses, but it's annoyingly hard to come by. anyway, for my birthday last year @msmargaretmurry got me a rat boy funko pop which is the stupidest thing in the world and i love it. i also love my teddy bear wearing a charlie mcavoy jersey. toss up between those two i think.
8. what’s on your hockey bucket list
okay well the first thing is going to a canes playoff game in raleigh. after that it's a bit fuzzier. it would be cool to go to every arena but i don't know if i have the fortitude to aim for that. i really want to go to the frozen four, which i haven't had the chance to do. i'd like to go to a winter classic but i refuse to shell out that much money unless a team i actually like is playing, and that'll happen when hell freezes over. i do really want to go to an international game or tournament. sometimes i fantasize about a men's worlds trip when it's somewhere neat, but the olympics would be cool as hell especially if the nhl ever goes again. (going to the olympics generally is a bucket list thing for me, so.)
14. a player you would get along with
i have been staring at this one for so long trying to think of a single player i feel like i'd get along with. kinda depends on what weight we're giving "get along with" here because i feel like i could have a drink and shoot the shit about sports on tv at a bar or whatever with plenty of people but beyond that it's like, well i don't know. sorry i have forgotten every hockey player.
#ask meme#if someone else can think of a player they think i'd get along with i'm open to suggestions lol but
