@gallacrafts Theme 35: Let’s Ride

Ian should really have clocked the teasing smirk on his husband’s face as Mickey pulled up outside Ian’s work, but it’s been a long day and Ian is fucking exhausted, so excuse him if he isn’t at his sharpest. He falls into the passenger seat with a brief ‘hi’ and a heavy sigh, immediately closing his eyes.

All he wants is to sleep through to Monday, but eventually Ian catches on to the excitement radiating off the man in the driver’s seat, drags his eyes open and turns his head, drawing breath to ask Mickey what’s going on. Which is when he sees… it.

“The fuck, Mickey?”

Mickey immediately bursts out laughing. “It’s you, see?”

No. Ian does not see.

“I found it at the gas station, by the check out! The packet said it’s a ginger! … Get it?” Mickey gleefully explains, and Ian? Well. Ian does not have the energy to deal with this right now, so he shakes his head, closes his eyes again, and tries to ignore his husband’s continuous chortle.

He’ll get him back. After he’s had some sleep!

It takes Ian a lot longer than expected and several fruitless online searches - who knew cutsie car air fresheners were that fucking popular?? - but after clicking through seemingly hundreds of different ones - almost giving up and just buying the middle finger one cause… well… Mickey - he finally finds and orders the perfect one!

A grumpy black cat, with scruffy hair, blue eyes, and ridiculously angry eyebrows.

And the crowning glory? The cat is much shorter than the ginger!

“Oh, fuck off!” Mickey grumbles, while Ian beams, attaching the second air freshener to the rear view mirror of their car.

Mickey may bitch about how he’s not “a stupid fucking cat”, and later on that it “doesn’t even make sense. You actually are ginger!”, and even later still “And my eyebrows do not look like that!!”

And yet, Mickey doesn’t take them down.

In fact, Ian often catches Mickey glancing at them - swaying and bouncing against each other as the car rumbles down the road - and sometimes Mickey even cracks a little smile.

But only when he thinks Ian isn’t looking, of course.

i'm a writer irl (can't say who because my agent would rightfully put me into a blender and press the button if i go and out myself as "balrogballs") and honestly the funniest and most humiliating incident of my life was the time my finished manuscript triggered a plagiarism flag with the publisher for two lines of prose in my literary fiction novel...

.... which was word for word similar to a paragraph in a certain explicit work on FFN starring elrond and his batsman from the hobbit films, aka that one elf that looked like he ate panic attacks for breakfast (i forget his name but it's Figwit II) where the lord of imladris bends said twink over his writing desk and gives him the battering ram treatment.

and if you think i had to sit in front of one if the biggest publishing companies in the world and admit that it was, in fact, me who wrote the fic where the lord of imladris bends said twink over his writing desk and gives him the battering ram treatment in order to avoid being wrongly flagged for plagiarism, you would be absolutely correct.

Oh look, it seems like there's a Republican-led movement to purge voter rolls in the lead-up to the election! It's almost as if your vote matters and they don't want you to vote! Anyway, I whipped up a quick map (based on this) that shows when the voter registration deadline is in each state. There are a few deadlines coming up in the next week or so.

If you live in a state that regularly purges voter rolls for infrequent voters (the orange ones in the first map), or if you moved recently, it's good to check if you're still registered to vote.

Vote.org makes it super easy to check your registration: https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/

Just put in your address and DOB and they'll tell you whether you're registered. (And they give you a quick link to register online if it turns out that you're not! Only the 9 states in white on my map don't have online registration, and for those they provide instructions on how to do it via mail or in person.) If you want an extra verification, find your state's election website and double-check there.

So yeah, give yourself peace of mind -- do a quick check. :)

It’s been a while, but we’re back! Thank you @deedala for creating the gorgeous piece of art that’s this week’s @galladrabbles prompt.

Art shows make Ian feel like an insect, pinned to a spreading board by the thorax.

‘Your attendance is mandatory!’ - ’Fine!’

But he won’t enjoy. Or participate.

Ian’s tucked into a corner, sketching furiously. A self portrait. Naked and vulnerable. Exposed to the world.

He glances up to check the time… and sees him.

He’s short and stocky. Eyes sharp, interested. His shoulders are hunched up - protecting his own thorax.

He’s admiring the art, but aware of the people, the exits.

Guarded.

Strong.

Safe.

Ian’s pencil moves to the right, and in a few strokes a second figure starts taking shape.
