1. it’s my 24th birthday today, so my goal of being published by the time i’m 25 is now a one year looming monster, but i never specified what kind of published and am currently looking in various literary magazines that are recommended for writers who have yet to be published, so i’m surprisingly confident that i can make it work? and tbh even if whatever i write isn’t officially published before my 25th birthday, if i have someone in the process of being published then i’ll be happy!! no matter what though, i’m gonna try to be proud of myself for at least giving it my best shot!!
2. i honestly love that my birthday is on the ides of march because the ides of march meme shitposting is only a thing on tumblr but it also being my birthday makes it easier to like. be excited about the ides of march outside of tumblr. like even in person i can be like “it’s my birthday! i’m an ides of march babe (:” and if someone is like oh what’s that? or if they say something along the lines of oh like julius caesar? i can be like yep!! and even if it’s a small thing outside of tumblr it brings me immense enjoyment and amusement being able to bring it up off of tumblr
3. transportation situation has been very rough since june 2023 when i totalled my car, my gap insurance are being assholes and i ended up putting my foot down on the phone with them yesterday which i’m pretty proud of because i am NOT a confrontational person (something i’ve been working on this past year, so seeing some improvement with my ability to hold my ground and not be a pushover yesterday was very cool!!) i was told i’d get a response from them by friday next week no matter what, and if i don’t then friday of next week i will continue to wreak havoc upon them. but my moms car which i’ve been using since my accident broke down yesterday, hopefully it’s fixable but my parents were saying it might be done for, so trying to think of how i’m gonna get to work next week is kind of stressing me out lmao, but for now i’m just gonna focus on enjoying my birthday the best i can because i don’t want to start off being 24 with an overwhelming anxiety for something that won’t be a potential issue until monday. plus i already messaged my boss today to let her know that i’m going to do everything i can to make it work out but just so she’s in the loop and knows of the potential of me not being able to make my morning shifts (one of my coworkers said she’s more than happy to give me a ride for our afternoon shifts which does help relieve some of the stress!) and i told her i’d let her know for sure sunday so that if necessary she can have time to figure out someone to fill in for me in the mornings!
overall: life is weird and i ended being 23 yesterday with a shitty situation but a positive outlook and i am going to enjoy my first day of being 24 no matter what because honestly i fucking earned it. happy friday everyone, i hope it’s a good day for you and me both!
#aritalks#i did cry a little bit when i first woke up because i dont really know what to do about work and also i hate not having a car i can use#not only because of the work aspect but also getting my license when i was 18 gave me a freedom i didn’t have before#and i don’t like having to rely on other people just to like go to the fucking store or something yk#but then my best friend/roommate messaged me happy birthday and i was like fuck it! today is going to be a good day!#the stressful uncertainties can wait until tomorrow#also one of my best friends who hasn’t said happy birthday to me the past two years#(not intentionally im p sure they were just busy on my birthdays the past two years#and then had that moment of ‘oh shit i didnt send a message fuck i think its too late now’ which i totally get bc anxiety things yk)#was one of the first people to message me happy birthday!!#i’m also hoping to still be able to go see my mom and then stay the night at my dads tonight#so i can see both my parents and also my baby siblings for my birthday#my dads working today but after he texted happy birthday i sent him a text asking if he thinks we could still make it work#my mom is asleep still i think (she called me at midnight and left a voicemail singing happy birthday!! but her sleep schedule has been all#over the place recently so i’m waiting until 11:30 to call her which is in like 30 mins)#but she said something yesterday about driving out to me to give me a hug and also bring me my diabetes stuff that got delivered#(her house is my mailing address because i know it’s not going to change bc it’s my great grandparents house that she’s partially inhereting#when my great grandpa dies but since i have moved out of my dads my address has changed twice and i didnt have a mailbox at my last place so#just for the sake of consistency and not having to worry about important shit getting sent to the wrong address i’ve had her house as my#mailing address since i moved out of my dads at 19)#so i think i’m gonna ask her if she can just pick me up instead so i can go to her house w her and hang out with her#and hopefully my dad will be able to at least stop by with my siblings so i can see them too#i’d like to stay the night with them but if we can’t make it happen then i can also stay the night w my mom and hopefully tomorrow figure#out the car situation. might have to rent a car for a week if i can afford it? best case scenario is my moms car can be fixed but i still#dont know whats wrong with it ik there are two potential problems and one is fixable the other is not#the fixable one would cost like $150-$400 to fix depending on if we get a used part or a new one#if its $150-$200 ish i can probably afford to pay for the whole thing or at least most of it#but if its more than that hopefully my dad or one of my family members can help#and i can just pay them back in like $50 increments with my next few paychecks#just realized i said i wouldnt worry abt the car thing today and also i think im at tag limit to i’ll stop now lmao xoxo gossip girl ❤️

hi thala! 💞 so sorry if you don’t accept this kind of asks but i just feel like i need to vent and your vlog is always reassuring and comforting.
currently i’m in this situation where i just want to get out of this cr and permashift to my dr asap, but it seems like i can’t stop self sabotaging myself and i’m so so tired of it. last night i was crying my heart out because of how bad i felt about it. i’ve been practicing meditation so i can enter the void and even though it seems like i learned to keep my mind awake and body sleep i haven’t been able to get past that and it’s so frustrating. i know there’s tons of methods and also everyone says i don’t even need one but i idk why i have this idea that i need some method to detach from my cr really printed on my mind. for the self sabotaging part, i can’t help but have trust issues regarding myself and the community, sometimes it’s my intrusive thoughts making me doubt about shifting being real/posible and other’s successful experiences (saying it must have been a lucid dream or they are just making it up and i really HATE and feel guilty to discredit their experiences in that way 😭) and other times my belief in shifting is unwavering but i don’t feel capable of it. i'm not even the kind of person who has ever had any “closer attempts” or mini shifts and has been really hard for me to find what works best for me, meditation is by far what i’ve been trying the most but i’m just so impatient that sometimes i can’t help but feel that i’m going nowhere. my mind is really so stubborn when it comes to trying to change negative thoughts.
sorry for all of this, i don’t have shifting friends or someone i can share this stuff with. i don’t usually tend to feel this way but last night i just kinda collapsed, it crossed my mind that maybe i'm wasting my time and that i should just give up but i don’t want to, if this shii is real i need to experience it no matter what. i want to be with the ones i love and live the life i want. i don’t want to stay here any longer. i want to try loa along with shifting but then again, my intrusive thoughts say that i’ll be just gaslighting myself and all that.
i know no one else can fix these problems for me, but i’m so scared of failure or just being delusional for believing in all of this. sorry again for the long vent, i needed to get this off my chest. love you and your blog so much thala. if you don’t really want to accept this because honestly is like a long ass and probably demotivating ramble it’s totally okay, but thank you for taking the time if you do. hope you keep being happy and having success with everything you do. 😭🫶🏻
hello 💕 please feel free to vent, i don’t mind.
i completely understand your level of frustration, i badly want to permashift too and i have little breakdowns every few months once it catches up to me that nothing has fully worked yet.
the void can take a long time to perfect. i mean monks spend decades learning to meditate! why don’t you try something other than meditation? if you’ve given it a good go and it hasn’t worked, it’s probably not the method for you. i recommend a short break before trying a new method. rn i’m writing an affirmation 100 times a day. but honestly if that doesn’t work i’m straight up gonna lay there and visualize for 8 hours every night. i’m getting out of here no matter what.
try asking yourself what you think will work for you - sometimes we know the answer but we need to sit down and think about it. for example i keep doing affirmations, or short visualizations. but i feel what will make me shift is just laying there and telling myself to stfu and visualize until i’m there, even if it takes hours.
as for the self sabotage, i cope with that by watching my favorite creators and realizing that no one in their right mind would upload years of unpaid content that most people would ridicule us for, all for it to be a lie or joke. especially older shifters. and the other thing i like to do is remind myself that if i shifted and came back, no matter how ridiculous the experience was it’d still be real - so even if you don’t believe someone bc it sounds outlandish, it can still be real.
i’m also scared of being delusional but i simply cannot and will not remain here. there is no other option for me, so i’ll persist forever. the first time i shifted i had no idea id shift. that keeps me motivated, i could feel awful and still wake up in my dr tomorrow.
forever posting this reddit post by someone who shifted after 5 years, this was my fave comment of theirs:
and that motivates me even more - even if it’s fake i’m gonna make it real.
i also struggle with trying to change negative thoughts and my mindset, i’m in my mid 20s this stuff is harder to believe in at this age, and my mind has been tainted by years of bad experiences. but as hard as it is i’m forcing myself to get over it and try everything, bc i just need to shift once and all my bad experiences will be over.
i’m sorry if i gave you a big rant in return haha, but i hope this helps!! 💕 i’m so happy you like my blog and thanks for your sweet words 🥹

🕸 Bitter Sweet - Ch. 5 Miguel O’hara x F!Reader 🕸
WARNING: SA, NonCon, Graphic description of violence, language and sexual themes.
Part 6
This chapter has a few sensitive scenes so read at your own discretion and keep yourself and your mental health safe.
OR I’LL FKN COME OVER THERE! 👁️👄👁️
When I say you have no idea believe me, you have no ideaaaaa how many times I have gone over and edited this chapter. It’s a longer one kind of a two in one. Can you tell I love writing dialogue? I am trying to really establish relationships outside of the pairing and hope ya’ll are liking your aunt and uncle ❤️
The next day, you made the decision to sleep in, not rising from bed until around noon. Once you finally did get up you threw on something casual, and headed downstairs to get some breakfast and try to reason with your aunt and uncle. Afte what had happened there was no way they were thrilled about you going out to a party, let alone staying out all night. They were reasonable people though, you were sure they would understand, right?
‘’Absolutely not!’’ Your uncle said as he flipped to the next page in the newspaper he was reading.
‘’I wouldn’t be going alone; I would be there with Gwen and two other people. We are going as a group! And afterwards i’m sleeping over at Gwens. She will literally never leave my side’’ You whined while buttering up some fresh toast.
‘’Two, boys?’’ You went quiet trying to think of a response that would work in your favor.
‘’I mean… okay-- yes, but—‘’
Your uncle briefly glanced up from the newspaper, catching sight of the adorable puppy eyes you were giving him. Unamused by your expression, he raised the newspaper, intentionally concealing your face from his view.
"No way, we don't know these boys!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with concern.
‘’They’re from school, I know them. They’re my friends’’ You protested.
As you turned around, your hopeful eyes met those of your aunt. You wordlessly mouthed the plea "please..." and locked your gaze with hers. She looked at you with a mixture of tenderness and understanding before letting out a sigh.
‘’Ben…’’ Your aunt began, ‘’She did help out around here a lot this summer. She’s been keeping good grades and hasn’t missed any homework. Maybe…’’ She trailed off, leaving the words hanging in the air.
"Oh no, you're not against me on this too, are you?" Ben's voice tinged with concern, as he turned his attention to your aunt. "Maybelle, you know why I'm saying this. I just want her to be safe!" Your aunt nodded her head in agreement and walked over to your uncle. She placed a loving hand on his shoulder.
‘’So do i Ben but she is a good kid.’’ your aunt responded, her voice filled with compassion and understanding. "She deserves to have some fun. Y/n is almost an adult, and she has proven herself to be responsible. She's a good and honest kid, and I trust that she won't wait until the last minute to ask for permission ever again, Will she?’’ Your aunt glanced up at you, her eyebrow raised in a daring question.
You shook your head feverously, glancing between the two of them with a wide innocent smile.
You watched your uncle sighed, his shoulders slumping. He folded the newspaper and placed it down on the kitchen table, looking up at you.
YES!
"You keep your phone on you at all times, and you call us when you make it back to Gwen's," your uncle declared, his gaze fixed upon you with a stern look that conveyed the gravity of his expectations. The unspoken message was clear: there would be consequences if you failed to uphold your end of the deal.
‘’I will, I will! I promise!’’ You cheered.
Your uncle sighed again as he reached for a piece of toast, only for you to quickly snatch it from him and bite in to it. He looked up at you shocked, his mouth agape before turning to your aunt. ‘’Did you see that?! She has some nerve! She gets that from your side of the family,’’ he grumbled, a faint smile on his face.
"Oh, I don't know, is that the same nerve you have? Calling me by my full name, Mister Benjamin Franklin," With her hands on her hips, your aunt stood tall, staring down at your uncle with a stern yet loving gaze. He glanced over at you, this time with pleading eyes of his own. You slowly raised your hands, a piece of toast hanging from your mouth, you began to back out of the kitchen, carefully navigating your way out of the crossfire, toast still in tow.
The remaining part of the day was dedicated to tidying up your room, ensuring that there were no pending homework assignments, and meticulously styling your hair while also picking out an outfit. You ended up calling Gwen, seeking her opinion on several dresses, before ultimately decided on a stunning ruched mini dress.
Giving yourself a quick spin in front of the mirror, you couldn't help but admit that the color of the dress complemented your skin tone perfectly. You looked really good!
As you rummaged through your jewelry box, using your finger to shuffle things around, you made a mental note to properly sort through it when you had the time. Grabbing a pair of earrings, you confidently placed one in your ear. However, as you reached to put on the other earring, you suddenly froze, your hand suspended in front of your face.
You stared at the bracelet on your hand, a small scowl forming on your face. You quickly finished putting on the other earring and made your way to the jewelry box, staring down at your hand you mumbled something to yourself in frustration before finally making up your mind.
You grabbed onto the bracelet and began pulling it off, ignoring the red mark that was forming on your wrist. Once you got it off, you dropped it in the box with a huff. Examining your now bare wrist, you noticed a small tan line, not prominent enough to feel the need to cover it up, but enough to be an unwelcome reminder. Casting one last glance at the bracelet, a surge of emotion washed over you and you slammed the jewelry box shut, sealing away both the bracelet and the memory it held.
Your aunt called out to you from downstairs reminding you that it was time to get going. You snatched a pair of sneakers from under your bed, deciding to save yourself from the pain of a twisted ankle. Making your way down the stairs, excitement written all over your face and your sleepover bag slung over your shoulder.
‘’You’re not wearing your dress?’’ she asked as she picked up a lock of your hair, admiring it with a smile.
‘’No, it’s in my bag, I’m gonna get changed at Gwens just in case’’ you chirped. Truth be told you were excited; it had been forever since you had last been to a party. The thought of socializing, dancing a bit, and perhaps indulging in a drink or two~ filled you with giddiness and excitement. Above all, you were simply looking forward to enjoying yourself to the fullest.
"Okay, well, do you have a change of clothes?" You nodded.
‘’Your phone and charger just in case?’’ you aunt asked making you roll your eyes with a small smile on your face.
‘’Aunt May…’’ You began as you made your way towards the door. Your aunt jogged after you and called out in a hushed tone.
‘’What about protection?’’
You hit the brakes so hard your head flung forward, accidentally smacking your own forehead against the doorway of the kitchen. Suppressing a laugh, your aunt swiftly brought a hand to her mouth, her eyes sparkling with amusement. With a mischievous smile, she approached you, clutching a small box in her other hand. You rubbed at your forehead as you turned to look at her.
‘’Aunt May!’’ you hissed, your eyes darting over to your uncle sitting in the living room watching the news, clearly engrossed.
‘’I know I know, but it is always better to have something and not need it, rather than need something and not have it!’’ she insisted.
Your face turned a bright red. ‘’I won’t need it! I don’t—I won’t—‘’ you stammered.
"You really shouldn't, but here, take it anyways.’’ She held the box out towards you with a mischievous smile.
You wanted to drop dead on the spot. However, you managed to gather yourself and hastily snatched the box from her, stuffing it into your backpack. Your aunt smiled affectionately and planted a gentle kiss on your forehead, just as your uncle joined you. His timing; impeccable!
‘’Alright well… I’m off!’’ You said, the embarrassment still lingering.
Your aunt took a step back and nodded as she placed a hand on your uncles arm. They stood there watching you with loving eyes and kind smiles. You paused, turned back around, and embraced them both in a heartfelt hug. They returned the hug, holding you tightly for a moment before gently releasing you.
‘’Be safe! Make sure you go straight, to and from, Gwens house. Oh! and don’t talk to any strangers on your way there!’’ Your aunt said as you headed towards the door.
‘’I won’t’’ You promised.
‘’And if you see anything bad you—‘’ Your uncle began.
‘’I will turn around and head the opposite way, i know.’’ Your uncle grumbled something under his breath but ultimately left it at that. He held on to your aunts hand as you made it through the door.
‘’Oh! And drink moderately!’’ You aunt called out.
‘’Drinking?! No one said anything about drinking! You knew about drinking?’’ Your uncle began, rambling. You darted out the door and waved to them as you jogged out of there.
‘’Will do, love you guys!’’ You heard a faint ‘’you too…’’ as you walked away from the house.
____
Leaning back slightly on the heels of your feet, you casually knocked on the door in front of you. A faint sound of shuffling reached your ears from behind the door, and moments later, Gwen's father swung it open, revealing a warm smile on his face. He looked down at you and stepped aside, inviting you inside. As he closed the door, his eyes scanned you up and down, a fond smile forming on his lips. Commenting on how tall you had gotten he held out his arms and gave you a big bear hug.
"Damn, you've grown, kiddo! Are those some gray hairs I'm seeing?" he teased, his hand poised to ruffle your hair. However, you swiftly dodged out of the way, anticipating his playful gesture. After a life time of him treating you as his own daughter, you had gotten used to it.
"Pfft! I dig the crow's feet, they really complement the graying hair and the whole 'retirement home' outfit you've got going on," you retorted with a mischievous grin. Gwens father playfully placed his hands on his hips and looked away, shaking his head while smiling.
"Little punk..." he said affectionately. "Gwen's in her room. Off you go before you have me crying into my pillow at night," he joked, prompting both of you to burst into laughter, enjoying the playful banter.
As you entered Gwen's room, you were taken aback by the unexpected messiness. Clothes everywhere, and Gwen in the midst of rummaging through her closet, tossing one garment after another onto her bed. The frustration evident on her face, she eventually let out a frustrated groan before plopping down on her bed, defeated.
‘’Woah. I’m guessing you haven’t picked what to wear yet?’’ You say with a sheepish smile. You dropped your bag on the floor, by the door as you stepped inside and sat down next to her.
She sighed and greeted you with a tired smile, ‘’What gave it away?‘’ she asked sarcastically and you scoffed loudly. ‘’Maybe we should call the whole thing off…’’ She said frowning.
‘’I did not have to endure my aunt handing me a box of emergency condoms for us to not go’’ You said with an awkward smile on your face. Gwen looked up at you shocked and you both burst out laughing. She bumped in to you, her way of saying thanks for lightening the mood.
Gwen spent the next forty minutes trying different outfits while you put your makeup on and made sure your hair still looked good. ‘’What about green?’’ She asked holding up a pair of shorts.
‘’You look fine in green but those shorts aren’t really giving me the party vibe.’’ She silently nodded and hung them back inside her closet.
‘’What about…. Red and blue?’’ she asked holding up a jumpsuit.
‘’I don’t know… I always kind of envisioned you in more white and pink colors if you were gonna wear one of those suits’’ you casually responded, wiping some mascara from under your eye.
She let out a groan and tossed the outfit on the bed narrowly avoiding your head. ‘’It’s impossible! Since when do I struggle picking out an outfit?!’’
‘’Well actually…’’ you began awkwardly getting up and joining her. ‘’I wasn’t going to say anything but since you brought it up, could it be that you’re over thinking it?’’ You asked looking at her.
‘’Over thinking?’’ She said, awkwardly folding some hair behind her ear. ‘’Over thinking about what? Why would I be overthinking?’’
‘’You are overthinking this! You never have any issues picking out clothes. Could it be because of, you know…’’ You began and Gwen turned away from you as you spoke.
‘’I know…’’
"Because of Miles.’’ You said with a mischievous smile, your voice maintaining a monotone tone. ‘’You know Miles? The guy you like? You know who I’m talking about? M-I-L-E-S" you teased.
She threw a pillow at you making you laugh. Her eyes narrowed dangerously but you could see a smile on her face. ‘’I know what you mean! You jerk!’’ She exclaimed.
Just as the both of you were about to start an all-out pillow war her dad knocked on the door and walked inside, once he got the all clear.
"No, I got her right here, Ben," Gwen's father walked in with his phone against his ear as he waved at you. You smiled and returned the wave. Suddenly, you realized you had forgotten to let your aunt and uncle know that you had made it there safely. Gwen's dad could see the panic on your face as you stared at him, and he waved a dismissive hand your way.
‘’No it’s my bad Ben, I was talking to the girls about some safety procedures, she didn’t get the chance to yet. Don’t worry I’m not sleeping till they’re back here. If anything comes up, I’m not far away and I got my cruiser parked outside. They will be fine.’’ He said with a wink and you smiled wider. Gwnes father walked out of the room, closing the door after himself and you let out a deep breath.
Phew! That could have been bad. Gott remember to make it up to you them tomorrow.
Gwen's excitement peaked as she finally found something to wear. Could it be because you both had a heartfelt conversation and made a promise to never leave her alone, just her and Miles? Maybe so, maybe so.
Either way, she decided to go with a short white dress, a long black cardigan, a pink choker and some silver chains and finally a pair of black low heels.
She looked really cute and you complimented her which caused her to just awkwardly shrug and slip the sleeves down over her hands. Speaking of hands, Gwen suddenly grabbed yours, holding it up and inspecting your wrist. Cursing under your breath you pulled your wrist back and turned away from her, holding your wrist against your chest with a bitter look on your face.
‘’This mean you’re officially over him or-- ?’’
"That is NOT why I wore it!" you hissed , your tone coming out harsher than you intended.
‘’Okay… Sensitive.’’ She said holding her hands up. You sighed and turned back to her.
‘’I’m sorry i- I didn’t mean to--’’ Gwen pulled you in for a hug and you relaxed in to it with a smile.
‘’Thanks. For—well, you know.’’ You said and she nodded.
The rest of the hour was spent adding finishing touches, running over the plan with Gwens father, again, and finally you were on your way to the party. It was only about a fifteen-minute walk.
‘’So, is your dad really going to sit up and wait for us? Do we need to be home by a certain time?’’ You asked skeptically.
Gwen shook her head while playing with the sleeves on her cardigan ‘’No, he’ll fall asleep on the couch after watching a few movies. It’s more of a trust system, as long as we don’t stay out all night he doesn’t mind’’ she said.
‘’Ugh I wish I had a trust system…’’ you mumbled.
‘’I mean you were recently in a life-or-death situation. I don’t really blame your aunt and uncle for being extra protective.’’ Gwen said casually.
‘’Yeah I guess…’’
After walking for about ten minutes, Gwen pulled out her phone and navigated the two of you to the designated meeting spot. As you rounded a corner, you spotted the guys waiting there. Miles was dressed in baggy dark shorts, a basketball jersey, and a hoodie layered with a jacket. Hobie, on the other hand, sported tight black ripped jeans, a black T-shirt paired with a leather vest, and accessorized with a spiked collar around his neck and a spiked bracelet on one hand. Both of them looked stylish, but it was clear who had captured Gwen's attention.
‘’Hey guys—Gwen, you look… good. Great! You look great!’’ Miles said as the two of you walked up to him. He stared at her with wide eyes, and Gwen nervously tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Ahem!" Hobie cleared his throat, nudging Miles and snapping him out of his trance. Miles turned his gaze towards you and flashed an awkward smile.
‘’Oh, and you too y/n! You look good too!’’ Miles said scratching the back of his head.
You rolled your eyes and smiled brightly. You all began walking towards the party as a group, Miles and Gwen ended up walking ahead, while you and Hobie walked next to each other. He offered you his arm, ‘’M’lady?’’ he asked with a grin on his face.
"Why, thank you, good sir!" you exclaimed, putting on a posh and snobby voice as you slid your arm under his.
The two of you ended up walking together talking and joking, a few of the jokes being about the two people in front of you. Occasionally, Miles would cast a hesitant glance back, only to be met with a reassuring smile from Hobie, who silently encouraged him to be confident. With the sun having set, the city revealed its enchanting beauty under the night sky.
Finally, you all made it to the party, it was being held in a house in a more suburban area of the city. Once you all made it inside you ended up splitting up. You and Miles went to get some drinks while Gwen and Hobie found a place to sit; a comfortable distance from the music, allowing you to have a conversation without it blaring in your ears, yet still able to hear the rhythmic beats.
You made your way towards the kitchen, greeting a few people you knew from school along the way. Once you entered the kitchen, you effortlessly grabbed two ciders, while Miles swiftly retrieved two red cups.
‘’You know—‘’ Miles began awkwardly, ‘’You always see these red cups in movies where there are parties happening. I don’t even know what they are called haha. But they’re always… always there.’’ His voice gradually becoming more quiet.
‘’They’re disposable beer pong cups, Miles.’’ You said with a smile, faint amusement on your face.
‘’Right— right! Cuz... that’s what you do with cups. Besides drinking of course. Uhm—‘’ He began again and you chuckled.
‘’Miles relax, just take a deep breath’’ You said putting a supportive hand on his shoulder.
Miles nodded a few times taking a few deep breaths. ‘’I’m good, I’m cool. Thank you y/n. I’m just nervous man… don’t tell Gwen—‘’ You held your hands up running one of them over your lips in a ‘’my lips are sealed’’ motion.
"You want my advice? Just relax and have a great time. Tonight is all about being with her, surrounded by good music, drinks, and friends. Just be true to yourself," you said, pouring two drinks in to the cups.
‘’Everyone keeps saying that, You, Hobie my Mom! Just be yourself. What does that even mean?’’ Miles says with a bitter voice.
‘’It means; be the nice and funny guy we all know and love. Be Miles, be yourself.’’ You said with the same reassuring smile.
Miles looked at you surprised before smiling, he nodded his head and poured the drinks motioning for you to follow him. ‘’Thanks y/n. Oh and… don’t tell anyone about the whole mom thing?’’
‘’My lips are sealed, Morales.’’ You said with a wink and he just chuckled shaking his head at you.
The rest of the hour was fun, and you found yourself playing the role of the beer maid, fetching drinks for everyone. You didn't mind, though. As you returned with drinks in your hands, you noticed that Miles and Gwen had stepped to the side to hang out. You walked over to them, handing them their new drinks, shooting a playful wink at Gwen before leaving them to talk.
As you walked away you glanced around the room in search of Hobie, your eyes eventually landed on him leaning against a doorway. You were about to walk over to him when you noticed that he was talking to another guy you didn’t recognize. You watched as Hobie leaned over towards the guy and whispered something in his ear, most likely as the music was loud. The guy looked a bit flustered and Hobie ran his hand over the guys hand, causing the guy to blush and smile up at him. You realized that they were flirting and awkwardly darted away making sure you didn’t third wheel.
You made it over to a bay window, sitting down and leaning back against the window frame, enjoying the music and sipping on your drink. Glancing around the room you saw a few people you knew and smiled their way. In one corner you saw Reilly leaned against a wall flexing his muscles. You internally facepalmed as you watched the group of girls surrounding him fawn over him, or more specifically his physique. He flexed his arms and slapped his biceps inviting anyone to touch them if they dared. You shook your head, that guy was such a dork.
You suddenly froze, your eyes going wide as you realized who was standing, leaned up against a wall a few feet away from Reilley. The thought of Miguel being here hadn’t even crossed your mind, you had been so busy dealing with your aunt and uncle and Gwen and Miles that you forgot to even ask him.
What should you do? Should you even do anything? Are you leaning weird? You scooted further up the windowsill making sure to pull down your dress as you did. Your chest bounced up and you awkwardly caught a guy checking you out, it wasn’t really wanted so, ew. You shot him a nasty look and he seemed to catch on.
‘’Hey’’
You nearly jumped out of your skin when Hobie joined you, but quickly scooted over to create some space for him. He sat down beside you, settling in comfortably.
‘’Hey! having a good time?’’ You asked with a smile.
‘’Yeah, music’s garbage though’’ he said with a hint of a smirk.
‘’Oh yeah? Didn’t look like you were paying much attention to the music’’ you said with a grin.
‘’Oh! Was you watching me? Perv~’’ You lightly bumped into him, making him chuckle.
‘’I never knew you swung both ways,’’ you said while vibing to the music. You liked Post Malone, you thought as you sipped on your drink.
‘’Ah. Guy, Gall. It’s all calm, innit?’’ He said dismissively, you looked at him a bit confused and he shrugged.
‘’Don’t really matter what’s on the outside, you feel me? It’s what’s on the inside that matters.’’ He said while leaning back and inhaling through a single nostril before shrugging nonchalantly.
You flashed a smile and nodded in agreement. "I like the way you put it," you said, and he responded with a smile of his own.
After chatting for a while, Hobie gave you a friendly pat on the shoulder and went back to the guy he had been talking to. They found a spot on the couch and picked up where they left off. Meanwhile, you pulled out your phone to check for any missed calls or messages. As you scrolled through your inbox, you came across Peter's name and frowned.
You glanced up and spotted Miguel still leaned up against a wall, talking to some friends. Your heart fluttered as you watched him laugh at a joke, his smile causing your cheeks to heat up a bit. Maybe the drinks you had been sipping on so far helped a bit but you were pretty sure it was mostly him.
Talk to him.
Biting down on you bottom lip you could feel the nervousness ripple through your entire body. Should you go over there? What would you say? He’s clearly over there with friends, but… you were also his friend. Why else would he give you, his number?
More like he took yours but, tomato potato.
That’s not how that goes… you’re tipsy.
You observed with a sinking feeling as a woman approached from behind and leaned against Miguel's arm. Her gaze met his, and they exchanged smiles while he took another sip from his drink. The once warm fluttering sensation within you swiftly transformed into an icy grip, a sense of disappointment and unease settling in.
Was he here with someone…?
Well, duh, he is a hot guy. Why wouldn't he be here with someone? You thought bitterly to yourself. In fact, you hadn't even considered the possibility that he might not be single. For all you know, he could have a partner, maybe even several. The cold feeling spread to through your chest, and it made you feel nauseous. The girl leaned against him asking him something with a devilish smirk on her face. Miguel shook his head and leaned down to whisper something in to her ear. For a moment it looked as if he might have seen you, if he had however, he didn’t seem to care.
Ouch.
Glancing back down at your phone, you noticed the visible tan line on your wrist and frowned. You grabbed your drink and finished it, feeling a bit uneasy. Sliding your phone back into your purse, you headed back towards the kitchen, the same frown still on your face. You decided to stay away from that side of the house. As you approached the kitchen, someone bumped into you with enough force to send you on your knees.
‘’Oops- my bad!’’ It was Reilly and as he apologized, he grabbed you by the arms and lifted you up without much effort. Holy crap he was strong!
‘’I don’t realize how strong I am, sometimes it’s really more of a curse than a gift.’’ He laughed as he let go of you.
You let out an awkward laugh dusting off your knees and pulling your dress down a bit.
‘’Do I know you from somewhere?’’ he asked inspecting your face with a hand on his chin.
‘’Oh uhm, we have some classes together, mainly Spanish’’ You answered awkwardly.
‘’Oh! Right! Ehl-span-hjol!’’ he said with a grin and you had to fight the urge not to visibly cringe. ‘’I thought I recognized you from across the room’’ he continued while leaning against the kitchen counter.
You grabbed another drink and turned to him surprised, ‘’you were watching me?’’
He shook his head opening a beer and taking a big sip of it, ‘’Nah nothing creepy like that, I just noticed you because, you know, you’re pretty and stuff’’ He said flashing you a million dollar smile.
Before you had a chance to respond, another guy swung by with a tray of something. He placed the tray down next to the two of you and shouted something about putting down a vase, and that if it broke his parents were gonna kill him. Must have been the host you thought to yourself.
‘’You gotta try these, they are A- MAZING!’’ Reilly exclaimed, holding up a tray filled with small glasses of Jello-O. As you inspected them closer, you couldn't help but be intrigued.
Shrugging you grabbed one and threw it back, it was super fruity with a hint of something bitter. ‘’They’re nice’’ you said with a faint smile.
‘’Try a green one, they are the best! Or was it orange…?’’ Reilly said inspecting them.
In the end you ended up having at least one of each, maybe eight or nine of them in total. You let out a mix of a burp and a hiccup. Reilly made a joke that made you laugh. You found this guy to be so darn funny!
‘’Anyways that’s how I beat a horse in arm wrestling, well more like leg wrestling but that’s not the point’’ he said with a smirk.
‘’A horse kicked you in the chest?!’’ You asked both confused and surprised.
‘’What can I say, he was a sore loser’’ He shrugged and flexed his right arm.
You laughed loudly, slapping his arm a few times in the process. You could not believe how funny this guy was! Was- was he always this funny?
‘’These Jell-O candies are really good, but I think I’ve had enough.’’ You awkwardly laughed.
‘’Shots’’ He corrected while looking down at his own biceps.
‘’Sorry?’’ You asked confused.
‘’They’re Jell-O shots, you know—the drink but Jell-O?’’
‘’There’s booze in these?’’ You asked with a frown.
‘’Ya, not much though so you should be fine. Unless you’ve been drinking a lot before this.’’ He said shrugging his shoulders. ‘’Oh! There’s Stacy, I will see you—‘’ he said winking and clicking his tongue, clearly checking you out ‘’--later!’’ Before chasing down another girl.
You quickly descended from the counter, but as your feet hit the ground, you cursed as the room seemed to spin around you. You had to catch yourself on the counter to steady your balance, feeling a bit disoriented.
You knew there was a reason you found that idiot funny!
You took a moment to steady yourself and made your way towards the living room, your head and vision was spinning a bit and it felt as the more time passed the worse it was getting. You glanced around the room for any signs of Hobie.
You check the couch but instead of Hobie, the girls that were surrounding Reilly earlier were sitting on it. They saw you and eyed you before whispering among themselves and giggling. You frowned feeling very self-conscious as you made your way back to the window.
You couldn’t see Hobie anywhere nor could you see Gwen or Miles, last you had seen them they were heading upstairs, and there was no way you trusted yourself to walk upstairs at the moment.
Getting back on your feet, you decided it was best to head towards the door for some fresh air, even if you were feeling a bit unsteady.
Leaning against the wall for support, you slowly made your way, contemplating whether leaving the party in your current state was a good idea. Perhaps it would be better to stay inside and find a place to rest?
As you weighed your options, fate intervened, and suddenly, you tripped over something and stumbled forward, bracing yourself for the impact. However, to your surprise, pain never came.
Opening your eyes, you found yourself in the arms of a tall, slim guy with glasses. He had come to your rescue and helped you back up on your feet. As you steadied yourself, you couldn't help but notice the shared state of drunkenness between the two of you.
‘’m’sorry’’ you mumbled straightening up.
You leaned against a nearby wall, letting out a huff as the guy stumbled and fell against you. He mumbled something about being embarrassed and how much he liked you; Olivia. Last time you checked however your name was not Olivia. You tried to move him off you but he wouldn’t budge. He shifted his head closer to your ear, continuing to mumble about his feelings for you and how you made him feel. It reminded you of the moments when Miguel used to whisper things in your ear during Spanish class, but this situation felt entirely different; this was making you feel nauseous.
As you desperately attempted to free yourself, you realized he was forcefully pressing against you, effectively trapping you between his body and the wall. An overwhelming sense of sickness and panic surged through you, leaving you trembling with fear and unease. You felt his hand come up against your thigh gripping you painfully, his thumb slid against the inside of your thigh and under the hem of your dress.
‘’Please get off me…’’ You let out a trembling whimper as a wave of fear washed over you, causing tears to well up behind your eyes.
The guy grinded up against you and you almost gagged, you turned your head away from him as he tried to go in for a kiss. His weight pressed down on you, made it difficult to breathe, let alone call for help. The room spun around you, but amidst the blurry figures and distant voices, you realized that no one seemed to notice the distress you were in. It was as if you were invisible, trapped in a nightmare with no one to save you.
You watched in horror as the guy continued to grind against your hip, his advances becoming more forceful. You couldn't bear the unwanted touch any longer, and a quiet cry for help escaped your lips. Desperation filled your mind as you squeezed your eyes shut, bracing yourself for what would come next. And then, suddenly the weight on top of you vanished, along with the unwelcome hands. The fear that had gripped you was replaced with shock and confusion.
You opened your eyes, and to your relief, you saw the guy being forcefully pushed up against the opposite wall. A large hand held him in place, keeping his head pinned against the surface. The sight before you brought a mix of emotions—gratitude, confusion, and a glimmer of hope.
"Don't know how to keep your hands to yourself, eh cabrón?" Miguel spat, his voice filled with anger and disdain as he stared down the guy who had assaulted you. The intensity in Miguel's eyes was so fierce that it almost made his eyes appear red. It was a gaze filled with anger and protectiveness.
Miguel tightened his grip on the guy's skull, his fingers digging into the man's scalp like sharp talons. Gritting his teeth, Miguel applied more pressure, causing the guy to whimper in pain. The sound was drowned out by the thumping music in the background.
Suddenly, you felt a pair of gentle hands on your shoulders, causing you to flinch involuntarily. The arms wrapped around you, providing support and comfort. As you looked up, you met a pair of kind brown eyes that exuded warmth and compassion. The woman in front of you flashed a gentle smile, concern etched across her face. You realized that it was the woman from before, the one that seemed close to Miguel.
"You okay, sweetheart?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine care. The tears welled up in your eyes once again as you glanced at the guy who had just assaulted you and then back at her. The weight of the situation bore heavily on you, and you nodded, unable to find your voice in that moment.
Miguel leaned closer to the guys head, ‘’Podría aplastarte la cabeza aquí mismo, contra esta maldita pared.’’ He snarled.
‘’Miguel!’’ The woman called out.
Miguel turned around, keeping his hand pinned against the guy’s head. He glanced at the woman who gestured towards you, and as his gaze met your tear-streaked face, his expression shifted from a snarl to a deep frown. With a sigh, he slowly released his grip on the guy's face. Instead, he grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and forcefully tossed him towards the door, watching as he flailed and crashed into it. Miguel then walked over and positioned himself between you and the guy, his back turned to the drunken assailant.
"Get the hell out of here, before I break every bone in that hand," he warned, looking down at you, his gaze fixed on your teary eyes. Slowly, he extended his hand towards your face.
"Oh yeah? Nnn'hat if I don't?" the guy slurred, his words barely coherent.
You watched as Miguel's entire demeanor shifted.
"Not a good idea, kid..." the woman warned, her voice filled with caution as she pulled you protectively towards herself.
Miguel whipped around to face the guy, the muscles in his shoulders and back tensing, his tall frame towering over the guy. His intense glare made it seem as if he was about to rip the guy's head off. "Do you want to find out?’’ he uttered, the words dripping with a menacing threat rather than a genuine question.
"Miguel," the woman called out again, her voice filled with concern. But Miguel remained motionless, his focus entirely on the guy in front of him.
The drunk guy, on the other hand, shook his head, stumbled towards the door, and hastily made his way out. The commotion had caught the attention of the surrounding partygoers, and now their eyes were on you and the aftermath of the incident. Feeling a mixture of embarrassment and relief, you looked around awkwardly until your gaze landed on the woman who had been holding you. With a comforting smile, she offered you a sympathetic look.
Finally, Miguel turned around taking a deep breath, running a hand through his hair to slick it back into place. He faced you, and you cautiously looked up at him, uncertain of what to expect. As he gazed down at you, his face had returned to its usual state - a deep frown and furrowed brows.
The woman released her grip on you, and you tentatively approached Miguel, intending to apologize. However, your steps faltered, causing you to stumble slightly. In a swift motion, Miguel reached out and grasped your arm, steadying you. Without a word, he guided you towards the door, and you walked alongside him, feeling a mix of gratitude and awkwardness. As the door closed behind you, shutting off the noise from the party, the woman went over to the speakers and turned up the volume. It was as if a collective amnesia had taken hold, and everyone seemed to have forgotten the previous events.
Miguel abruptly spun you around to face him, and before you could utter an apology, he pulled you firmly against his chest. You froze in place, your arms hovering uncertainly as he enveloped you in his embrace. His protective arm rested on the small of your back, providing a sense of comfort and safety. With a touch of tenderness, his right hand gently stroked your hair, though his movements were slightly awkward. You felt a mix of emotions, unsure of how to react to this unexpected display of gentleness.
"It's okay, I've got you.’’ Miguel reassured you, his voice filled with warmth and reassurance. Your shoulders began to shake, overwhelmed with emotion.
"You're safe with me. No one is going to lay a hand on you," he continued, his soothing tone soothing your frazzled nerves. Unable to contain your tears any longer, you began to cry against his chest, finding solace in his protective embrace.
The door slammed open, and a concerned Miles and Hobie rushed out, followed closely by a panicked Gwen.
"Oi bruv, what are you doing?!" Hobie questioned, stepping towards the two of you, seemingly ready to intervene. In response, Miguel raised his eyes with an almost bored and unfazed expression, although his muscular back remained tense, as if he was still prepared for anything.
"Woah, it's alright, man. It's Miguel. What happened?" Miles interjected, attempting to diffuse the tension. As Miguel saw Miles, he visibly relaxed.
"Y/n, oh my god!" Gwen cried out, running towards you with open arms. Miguel moved to the side, allowing Gwen to envelop you in a tight embrace. Meanwhile, Hobie glared at Miguel, clearly still harboring some animosity. Miles intervened, placing a calming hand on Hobie's shoulder and urging him to relax.
"Y/n, I'm so, so sorry! What happened? Are you okay? People were saying you were in a fight?!" Gwen's voice trembled with concern as she anxiously assessed your well-being.
"It’s been dealt with.’’ Miguel responded quietly, his gaze fixed on you.
"I didn't ask you," Gwen hissed at Miguel, her frustration palpable. Miguel pinched the bridge of his nose, shaking his head in exasperation while muttering something in Spanish.
As you mumbled something about Miguel saving you from the drunk guy, your body shivered in disgust, the memories still fresh in your mind.
Gwen expressed her gratitude and offered an apology to Miguel, who simply waved his hand in a dismissive manner, while shaking his head.
Suddenly, a wave of nausea washed over you, and you bent over, vomiting into a nearby bush. Interestingly enough Jell-O shots taste the same coming up as they do going down.
Next thing you knew, Miguel had scooped you up in his arms, carrying you through the streets of the city on his back. As you looked down, you realized you were wearing an oversized shirt, and the bare skin against you felt warm and comforting.
‘’W- what’s going on?’’ You questioned confused and drunk.
‘’You are being taken back to your friend house.’’ Miguel said, his hands folded under your ass as he carried you on his back.
‘’Why are you naked?’’
‘’I’m not— I am not naked, tonto! I am just shirtless, thanks to you.’’ He answered bitterly.
‘’I got you naked?’’ You drunkenly slurred, a smile on your face.
‘’Ay, por dios… You threw up all over your dress! I am not carrying you with vomit all over yourself.’’ He said with a tired sigh.
‘’m’sorry Miggy~’’ You whimpered.
‘’Don’t call me—‘’ he sighed, ‘’don’t worry about it, dummy.’’ You let out a small giggle and he scoffed in response, shaking his head. You had your arms resting on top of his shoulders and as your wrist came in to his vision he stopped for a moment.
‘’No more bracelet?’’ he asked as he continued walking behind the rest of the group.
‘’Why’s everyone noticing it all of a sudden?’’ you asked frowning.
‘’That mean you finally over that kid?’’ He asked nonchalantly.
‘’s’not why I wore it….’’ You sulked.
He hummed as he listened to you speak. ‘’You’ll have to get a replacement then.’’
‘’I don’t want a replacement’’ you mumbled, sulking.
‘’What do you want then?’’ he asked curiously.
Thinking for a moment your mumbled:
‘’Would you get me one? From you?’’
Miguel went silent for a moment as he walked, you rested your head against his shoulder nuzzling in to the crook of his neck sighing contently.
‘’Is that what you want?’’ he questioned, had you been more sober you might have noticed how serious his tone was, but alas.
‘’Yeah, I want one from Miguel.’’ You said with a smile as you slowly drifted off to sleep.
‘’Lo tienes, cariño’’ He mumbled as he carried you back to Gwens place.

A/N: Thank you for reading! We hope you continue to enjoy! x
Warnings: language.
~ Nesta ~
I haven’t said a word to my husband since I caught him fucking his hand in the shower, and he hasn’t said a word to me, either. In fact, when he came out of the bathroom two days ago, he barely even looked in my direction before getting dressed, stuffing clean clothes into a bag, and leaving. Apparently he never intended to come home, he had only intended to get more of his things then go back to Feyre and Rhysand’s.
Which is where I am now, sitting in the driveway, trying to gain enough nerve to make my way inside.
I want to ask him to come home.
I want to ask him to go to marriage counseling.
I want him to not give up, not yet, not until we try to see if we can fix this.
I’ve spent two days trying to come up with the right words to say, two days barely sleeping and picking up my phone to text him, only to delete every word that I’d typed.
This wasn’t something to text about. I had to do this face-to-face.
It’s Wednesday, so I know that he’s here because he has every Wednesday off. I did text Feyre though, just in case, and worried that he was off living his best life until I got my sister’s reply. He’s here and making us dinner. If you’re going to piss each other off….please wait until he’s done with the steaks…
It was a fair enough request.
I wouldn’t want to piss off the chef. Then no one’s happy.
Once I get out of my car, I walk through the garage and in through the door that leads to the kitchen. I open the door to see Feyre at the sink, rinsing off dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. She gives me a smile as I close the door behind me. “Hey.”
“Hey,” I say, quietly. Cassian is nowhere to be seen. “How was dinner?”
“So good,” she said, practically drooling. “I can’t say that I mind having a professional chef at my beck and call.”
I snort, completely understanding. Over the last week, I’ve been living off of frozen meals and takeout. Nothing compared to Cassian’s cooking.
“They’re downstairs,” Feyre says, turning off the faucet and turning around to lean against the countertop. “He, uh…has been in rare form the last few days.”
Well, I did catch him in the shower with his cock in his hand, then he got pissed at me for existing and stormed off into the night, so…I can imagine.
“I’m going to ask him to come home,” I say, fiddling with my keys. “I don’t think he’ll even say yes, but I need him to know that that’s what I want.”
Feyre’s eyes softened as she nodded. “I think that’s a good idea.”
I follow Feyre down the hall and into the basement, where Cassian and Rhysand are playing Call of Duty. Nyx is on the floor, building something with Legos, and the second he spots me, he’s running toward me and flinging himself into my arms. I catch him with a hug and a kiss, and when I set him back on the floor, the game on the TV is paused and both men are looking at me.
Rhysand gives me a wan smile.
Cassian’s expression is emotionless.
Feyre clears her throat. “Come on, buddy. Let’s get you ready for bed.”
Nyx frowns. “But Aunt Nesta just got here.”
“I know, but it’s late,” she says, picking him up. “Rhys, come on. We need you to read in your wild things voice.”
“Of course,” he says, and gives Cassian a pat on the shoulder before following his wife and son up the stairs and out of sight.
Cassian is still staring at me.
My pathetic self gives him a little wave.
Looking exhausted, he exits out of he and Rhysand’s game before starting a round by himself. “What are you doing here?”
No hi. No how’s it going? Just a what are you doing here?
I rock back on my heels. “I thought we could talk.”
“We have nothing to talk about. It’s late.”
“It’s seven.”
“I’m tired.”
“Please, Cass.” I must’ve sounded tragic, because he glances at me over his shoulder and sighs.
When he turns back to the TV, his focus on his game, he says, “Fine.”
I walk to the couch and sit on the opposite end, far from him. “Smelled good upstairs. I heard you made steak. Did you make your garlic butter?”
“Yup.”
“And mashed potatoes? It’s always so good with mashed potatoes.”
He doesn’t answer, he just takes a deep breath. “What is it you want to talk about, Nesta?”
I have to remind myself not to get pissed. I’m here to fix things, not make them worse. Getting pissed, yelling at him, would just make things worse.
I wait a few seconds to see if he gives me his attention again. When he doesn’t, I say, “I want you to come home.”
His thumbs continue to fly over the sticks. “Why?”
“Because I miss you.” I hate that my voice breaks. We just started talking and already I’m on the brink of crying.
But that break, that show of emotion, draws my husband’s eye.
I push, taking advantage of his attention. “I miss you, Cassian. I don’t know what happened to us, but I want to fix whatever it is.”
I watch as his Adam’s apple bobs as he swallows, his eyes leaving mine and landing on the controller still in his hands. “You want to fix us, but you don’t know what the problem is?”
I know. I know what part of the problem is, but I’m not ready to dive headfirst into my own faults tonight. “I want to try, Cass. I tried to give you space, but I miss you. I need you home.”
He’s quiet for a moment, and I know it’s only a few seconds but it feels like so much longer. The silence stretches on for an eternity, and my tears start falling.
“I don’t know if I’m ready,” he says, at last, still staring at his controller laying limp in his hand.
“We don’t have to stay in the same bed,” I say, wiping at my cheeks. “One of us can stay on the couch, and I’ll give you all the space you need, I just want you home. I need you home. Nothing will be fixed if you’re here, if we’re not talking.” I take a breath, trying to keep my voice calm. “If we’re not trying. We need to try.”
“I was trying.” Although his voice remains soft, he’s angry. “I have been trying, Nesta.”
“I know,” I breathe. “And now I’m ready to try too.”
His fingers flex. His body is tense. I know he’s trying to stay in control.
He shakes his head and tosses the controller on the coffee table in front of us before dropping his face into his hands.
I don’t say anything while he processes.
I sit quietly, wiping my tears that won’t seem to stop falling. He drops his hands a moment later and now he just looks exhausted.
“This isn’t fair.” He refuses to look at me. “It’s not fair that we have to do this on your terms. All of the sudden, you're ready to try, but why now? Because I finally put my fucking foot down? I left, Nesta, because I was fucking tired. I was tired of trying to be a good husband and you not giving a damn. I’m still tired. But now that you’re finally ready to work on our marriage, you just expect me to keep trying? I’m tired of trying! I’m tired of working on this and getting nowhere!”
I try not to flinch at his raised voice, but my hands find one another and clasp together, helping ground me.
“I understand,” I say, even though it hurts. “I get it. I do. And I’m not saying that you shouldn’t feel that way. I’m just…selfishly…asking you to come home.”
“And what then?” He still won’t look at me. “We go back to ignoring each other and being the most miserable roommates of all time?”
“I thought it might be a good idea to talk to someone.”
He scoffs. “Like who? My brothers? Your sisters?”
Reminding myself not to let his anger affect mine, I take a deep breath. “A professional, a marriage counselor.” The sound of my husband’s laughter was not the response I was expecting and my voice was like ice when I went on. “What's so funny?”
“You won’t talk to me about our fucked up marriage, but you’re willing to talk to someone else?”
Grinding my teeth together, I took a deep breath. “It’s not just me, Cassian, I want us both to talk to her.”
“No.”
“You didn’t even think about it.”
“I don’t have to. I’m not going.”
“I’ve already contacted a woman who has come highly recommended to me, and she can get us in already next week. Monday, ten a.m.”
“Call and cancel.”
“No.” The hold I have on my anger is fading, and he can tell from that one word alone.
He finally looks at me and his eyes are ablaze. “No?”
“No. I’m not canceling. We are going, and we’re going to fix this, because the idea of you leaving me, of you not being my husband anymore, makes me sick, Cassian.” The words rush out of me. My tone matches his. “So you can be stubborn, and you can be an asshole, because I know I deserve it, but I’m not canceling. If you’re going to leave me, it’s not going to be because we didn’t try.”
I have no clue what’s going on inside of his head. All I see is his frustration as he stares at me, his stubborn nature mirroring my own. He doesn’t back down. Neither do I. We just sit there, staring at one another, waiting for the other to break.
“And if counseling doesn’t work?” He asks, at last, his gaze hard.
It will. It has to. “Then that will be that.”
He swallows, gaze breaking from mine and drifting to where his controller sat. “I’ll sleep on the couch—”
I release the breath I’d been holding since I walked into Feyre’s house. “Thank you, Cass—”
“I didn’t finish.” It doesn’t escape my notice that he won’t look at me. “I’ll sleep on the couch when I come home. I’m not coming home before we talk to whoever you found.”
“Cassian, that’s days from now—”
“And I need time to think, Nes.”
I didn’t let the familiar nickname affect me. I could grant him that, even if I wanted to beg him to come home tonight. “And when will you come home?”
“Monday.”
I nod. “Monday, then.”
He picks up his controller, all but telling me our conversation is over. Accepting his dismissal, I get to my feet and head for the stairs. Just before I reach them, I turn and look at where he sits on the couch, not moving. He hasn’t started a new game yet, still just staring at his controller.
“I love you,” I say, not giving myself time to reconsider the words.
I don't wait to hear if he says it back.

Day 1: Refuge
It’s @blupjeansweek 2023! How does 3.6k sound to kick it off?
Read it on AO3
Summary: Barry gets caught in the rain and takes refuge in the first house he comes across.
The midnight sky is pitch black in the countryside. Even the moon and stars are missing, covered by dark storm clouds. Barry trudges along on the muddy road created by the downpour. He has his arms wrapped around himself in an attempt to keep warm, but it’s futile. He was soaked to the bone within minutes of the heavens opening up. Even now, in the early days of summer, the rain chills him to the core. His feet and knees and back ache. He longs for nothing more than to stop for the night, but he wildly underestimated the amount of civilization out here. When he set out from the last town this morning, he thought he’d at least come across a barn he could crash in, but it’s been nothing but empty fields for hours.
Except.
In the distance, he can see a glimmer of hope. He can’t make out much through the dark and the rain, but he can see windows with lights on. He keeps his eyes fixed on that warm glow and imagines a fire and a soft bed and maybe even a good meal.
After an immeasurable amount of time, Barry stands at the end of the path that branches off the main road. He can see the home a little better now. It’s a stunning mansion, clearly old and just the right amount of gothic. If he’s honest, it’s a little creepy how it seems to loom over him from the slight incline between him and the front door. The lights are still on, and he can see silhouettes in the windows. It occurs to him that it’s strange that these people are living out in the middle of nowhere, with the next closest person being hours away.
Barry’s anxieties start to take over, and he’s trying to rationalise how sleeping in a storm wouldn’t actually be that bad, when a flash of lighting illuminates the black sky in a vicious mockery of daylight. Thunder cracks so loudly it may as well be right on top of him. It propels him to walk up the muddied drive. Under the protection of the front porch, rain clatters loudly above him, and he can truly feel how soaked through and cold he is. His clothes stick to him uncomfortably, water drips off his hair into eyes, and his glasses are dotted with water, blurring his vision. Thunder cracks above him again, and he knocks quickly before he can lose his nerve. After a few agonising moments of silence, the door swings open to reveal the most beautiful woman Barry’s ever seen in his life. She has piercing eyes that stare him down, tan skin and blonde hair, she’s tall and lithe and wears a blood red dress with a slit so high some might call it dangerous.
He clears his throat. “Hi, uh, sorry, I- I’m sorry. I don’t want to intrude, but- it’s raining pretty bad out here, I was just wondering if-”
“Of course,” she says smoothly. “You poor thing, come inside. We’ll get you warmed up.” She steps out onto the porch and takes his elbow, guiding him inside. He sighs as the warmth of the house hits him. The entryway is just as opulent as the mansion’s exterior. “Taako,” the woman says, “we have a guest.”
Leaning against the railing at the base of the grand staircase is a man, clearly very closely related to his hostess with the same tan skin and blonde hair. He’s wearing layers of robes that seem to shift in colour every time he moves. He glares at Barry as he’s guided past him and up the stairs. “I want him gone by morning,” he says. The woman waves him off and they continue on down the hallway.
“Don’t mind my brother,” she says, “he’s not a fan of strangers.”
“And… you are?”
“Sure, especially when they’re handsome.” She winks at him and Barry almost chokes. Him? Handsome? The sad, wet, sorry excuse for a man that knocked on her door in the middle of the night? The one that’s got mud on his jeans nearly up to his knees and hasn’t taken a proper shower in a few too many days?
"Guess I'm getting murdered tonight," he thinks. There can't be any other explanation for the immediate welcome and flattery.
Realising he’s been quiet for a little too long, he spits out, “Barry.” She looks at him curiously. “I’m- my name, it’s Barry.”
She smiles, “Lup.”
“Lup,” he repeats. It’s a strange one, but yet it fits her perfectly.
She takes him into a massive room. It’s got a king size bed on one wall, and a few plush chairs with a small table in front of a fireplace on another. There’s a large window with heavy velvet curtains pulled shut, and an attached bathroom. “Take a hot shower,” Lup says, “I’ll start a fire for you and see if I can find you some dry clothes.”
“Thank you, this is… this is incredible.”
She squeezes his arm again and lets go to lightly shove him towards the bathroom. It’s fancier than any bathroom he’s seen before. It has two sinks, a claw foot bathtub and a separate shower. He puts the shower temperature as high as it’ll go and peels off his waterlogged clothing, draping it over the edge of the tub to dry out. He revels in the hot water, letting it thaw him from his stint in the rain. When he comes out, steam billows into the room. A fire crackles pleasantly in the hearth, and there’s a folded set of clothes on the bed. He’s expecting something out of a movie, like silk pyjamas with a crest embroidered on it, but instead he finds typical plaid pyjama pants and a plain grey t-shirt. He’s a little worried, at first, about if they’ll even fit, considering the siblings hosting him are both taller and thinner than he is, but he finds that they’re actually just a little big on him. They smell like fresh cut wood.
Barry lowers himself into one of the chairs by the fire with a groan, thankful to take the pressure off his poor aching feet. There’s still a slight chill deep in his core, but he’s just glad to be able to sit down. He leans his head back and closes his eyes, just listening to the fire. If he's going to get serial killed here, at least he'll die in luxury.
He’s unsure how much time has passed when there’s a knock on the door. It opens and Lup comes in with a tray. She sets it down on the small table between the two chairs and sits across from him. “Dinner,” she says.
He doesn’t expect her to stay, but she sits and watches him eat.
The tray has a plate with meat and vegetables and potatoes and sauce and it smells divine. “I think it’s a little late for dinner,” he jokes, picking up the utensils and digging in.
Lup laughs, “a midnight snack, then.”
“So what brought you all the way out here?” She asks, linking her fingers together and resting her chin on them.
Barry stills. Oh, you know, just running as far away as I can get because I have nothing left. “Just trying to… see the world, I guess.”
He can feel her looking at him. She hums. “That might be good for you, you don’t seem very travelled.”
“That obvious?”
“Did you even have an umbrella? Or any way to make a camp?”
His face flushes with embarrassment. “No. It was… I was a little spontaneous when I was leaving. I didn’t think it through much, so I didn’t leave with a lot of stuff. I’m usually more for planning.”
Lup cocks her head, evaluating him. “You’re cute when you’re embarrassed.” His blush deepens and she smiles, silently laughing at him. She stands and says, “finish your food and go to bed. I’ll get you set up with some proper travelling gear before you leave in the morning.”
“Okay, yeah, thanks. Thank you.”
Then he’s on his own again. He eats, douses the fire, and climbs into the bed, letting the covers engulf him. It’s much more comfortable than cheap inns or bales of hay. Even with his brain's valiant attempts to come up with every worst case scenario that could happen in this house, he falls asleep to the ambient sound of rain and thunder.
When he wakes the next morning, he feels like he got run over. His body aches all over, and he feels like he’s on fire. Then he sits up and almost coughs a lung out. He must’ve caught something after his hours-long trek in the storm. Or the dinner he was served was poisoned, he could go either way. But he can’t overstay his welcome, so he reluctantly drags himself out of bed. He’s about to trudge his way to the bathroom when he notices that the tray from last night is gone, and in its place is another folded set of clothes. He checks, and they’re his clothes from last night, perfectly dry. He blushes, embarrassed to think that Lup snuck in here to dry these for him. He changes as quickly as his aching body will allow, pauses to cough up another lung, makes the bed, and leaves the borrowed pyjamas folded on top.
He heads back to the main entryway. It’s dimly lit, the front windows that had acted as Barry’s beacon last night are now covered with heavy curtains identical to the ones in the guest room. He makes for the front door to slip out and make his escape, when his name gets called and he nearly jumps out of his skin. He turns, and Lup’s walking up to him. She’s dressed more casually this morning in a simple soft shirt and pants. “I made breakfast,” she says, “come and eat.”
“Thank you, but I should really get going.”
She tuts. “You haven’t overstayed anything, you need to eat if you’re going to have enough strength to make it to the next town over.”
“Really, I’m fine, I-” he’s cut off as he starts to cough up a secret third lung he had hidden in his back pocket.
Before Barry can process what’s happening, Lup’s hand is pressed against his forehead. It’s pleasantly cool, and the relief it provides makes him sigh quietly.
“You’re burning up,” she says, frowning.
“Probably just a cold, I was out in the rain for hours last night. I’ll be okay.”
“Nope. I’m not sending you out there like this.” She grabs his elbow, more forceful than she was last night, and starts dragging him further into the house, “you’re eating breakfast then going back to rest.”
“Wh- what about your brother? He said I needed to be gone by morning.”
“He’ll get over it.”
She takes him to a dining room with a large table in the centre. There has to be at least 12 chairs around it, but there's only one setting at one of the corners. Lup shoves him down into the chair and points at the array of toast, fruit, and waffles, and says, "eat."
Not wanting to incur a wrath that Barry can only imagine burns with a fury, he eats. Lup sits in the chair at the head of the table, adjacent to him, but he keeps his eyes down on the plate.
"You don't have to look so nervous," she says. He finally looks up at her and she grins, "I don't bite."
Barry swallows. "I'm- I'm sure you don't. It's just a little odd, finding people who live so far away from anything else."
She shrugs. "It's nice out here. We like the quiet and don't get bothered by anyone."
"Except old guys like me who get caught in the rain."
She laughs, but before she can respond, the kitchen door swings open and her brother walks in. "Hey Lulu, have you seen my-" he cuts himself off when he sees Barry, and his face sinks into a frown. "Lup."
"Excuse me," she says sweetly, pushing herself up from the table and following her brother out of the room.
Now, Barry doesn't mean to eavesdrop, but the twins don't seem to be aware of how well sound carries in this old house.
"What the fuck is he still doing here?!"
"Oh, my bad, god forbid we let a guy eat breakfast."
"Fine. So he's leaving as soon as he's done."
"..."
"Lup!"
"He's sick, Taako! I can't let him go back on the road like that!"
"He didn't look sick to me."
"Well he is, and he needs to rest and heal before he can go back out."
"He can't be here."
"So you get to keep one and I don't?"
"That was a completely different situation and you know it."
"I'll keep him out of your way and as soon as he's well enough to go, I'll let him go."
There's a few agonising beats of silence. Barry tries not to hold his breath.
"...fine."
Barry exhales deeply. Now that he's really thinking about it, he doesn't think he'd last on the road in this condition. He longs to go back to bed. He's only picked at the breakfast laid out for him, but he's not sure his stomach can handle much more.
Lup comes back out alone, and notices he hasn't eaten much. "Do you not like it? I can make you something else-"
"No," he says, "it's delicious, but… you were right, I'm not in great shape."
She smiles softly and links their arms together. "Let's get you back in bed."
He sleeps late into the day. When he wakes, Lup brings him soup. Then she shows him to their massive library and lets him wander and choose any books that grab him. He pretends not to notice her subtly guiding him away from a section in the back corner. She even takes him on a walk around the grounds. The sun's gone down already, but the storm has passed, so the gardens are illuminated by the silvery light of the full moon.
"It's amazing how much food you guys grow here," he says.
"We have to be pretty self-sufficient out here." A wolf howls far off in the distance. Lup smiles. "The woods are good for hunting, too. And foraging, if we're feeling up to it."
"You hunt?"
She leans in close and says, "you have no idea what I'm capable of."
It's like she has him in a trance, and he can't find any words to say. Lup holds him there for a few long moments then steps back and says, "let's go back, you'll get a chill."
The days go on like this. He sleeps in their house and eats their food and reads their books. He goes on walks around the halls and the grounds with Lup. She's wonderful company, they talk about novels and science and the world for hours on end. If they run out of things to say, they sit in amiable silence. Her laugh is like music to his ears, and he wants to hear it as often as he can. Her hands are a comfort whenever he starts hacking up one of his spare lungs. He loves the way his name sounds in her voice.
Problem is, as the days go on, he only seems to get weaker. Their walks get shorter, he sleeps longer, the coughing fits become longer and more frequent, and he's having a harder time catching his breath, he has to sleep sitting up. His fever hasn't broken either, and Lup's cool hands barely offer any solace whenever she checks his temperature.
But she still keeps him company. She sits on the bed with him and talks or reads to him. So when the door opens one night and Taako walks in holding a tray, his face falls a little.
"Well don't look so disappointed," Taako says, kicking the door shut behind him.
"Where's Lup?"
"Out. She'll be back by tomorrow. She asked me to make sure you don't die before then."
"Thank you for letting me stay."
"I'm not letting you do anything. Lup decided you were staying, so you were going to stay, and there was nothing me or you could've done about it." Taako sets the tray down on the table by the fireplace and turns to face him. "Are you able to get over here? Because I'm not doing that lovey-dovey feeding you shit that Lup does."
Barry coughs and pretends his face is flushed from the fever. "Uh, yeah, for sure."
It takes some effort, but he manages to move from the bed to the chair. Taako sits in the other one and watches as he slowly eats the fresh soup. Once he's finished, Taako takes the tray and stands, "I'll come back later to make sure you're still breathing," and he sweeps out of the room.
As promised, Lup's back the next day, and the routine continues. But Barry continues to deteriorate.
He loses track of time eventually. He doesn't know if it's been hours or days. He can't catch what Lup's saying, but the cadence of her voice is a comfort. Even taking a breath is a struggle.
One day- or maybe it was night, he can never tell with those curtains drawn- her normally soothing tone changes. She sounds scared, and she's shouting. She sounds a little far away. Is she in trouble? He wants to get up to help her, but he can't really move. It's also really hard to breathe, he should open a window.
He feels the bed dip and her voice is closer again.
"-e's turning blue!"
"I think he's dying, Lulu."
Who's dying?
"I know, so help me! Do something!"
Oh. Him. He's dying. He wants to look at Lup and tell her that it'll be okay, but he can't seem to move his eyes. Are they closed? He's not sure. His ears are ringing but the twins voices come through clear as a bell.
"Like what?! Health shit is Merle's thing."
"Well Merle's not here right now, dickhead. It's just us, and I can't let him die."
He doesn't know who that is. He honestly didn't think the twins knew anyone else.
"Humans only live so long, you weren't going to be able to keep him here forever."
Barry doesn't have the faculties left to question Taako referring to humans as if he isn't one.
"...I could."
"Lup-"
"But I could, Taako. I can stop this and he can stay here."
"You've only known him a few weeks."
"Please."
Silence stretches, and Barry thinks maybe he's died already.
Taako sighs, "I'm not going to stop you."
Barry feels Lup's hands on his face and his head is turned. Evidently his eyes are open, because her face comes into view. There are tear tracks down her cheeks, and he just wants to reach up and wipe them away. "I can stop this, Bear," she says, "I can help you and you can stay here with me- with us, forever."
He doesn't know what she's talking about, and he tries to answer her, but all that comes out is the strained breath of a dying man.
"If you're going to do it, I suggest you do it now," Taako says.
Lup leans down towards him, and he almost thinks she's going to kiss him until she seems to veer off to the side. His entire body alights with pain, like every nerve ending is on fire. He can hear someone screaming, and he realises it's him a second before the world goes dark.
When he wakes up, it's cold and dark, and there's something on top of him that falls into his mouth. He starts clawing through it, trying to get to fresh air. It feels like it goes on forever, but he breaks the surface into the cool night air. He's welcomed by the sweet stench of blood, and his vision zeroes in on a raccoon laying several feet ahead of him. Unthinking, he crawls over and tears into it.
He comes back to himself once the raccoon's blood runs dry. His eyes widen, realising what he's done, and he drops what's left of it and shuffles back away from it, breathing heavily.
"Barry."
His head snaps over to the voice, and he sees Lup standing some distance away. "Lup?"
"Hey, Bear."
"Wh- what-"
"You were dying," she approaches him slowly and kneels in the grass, still a few feet away, "I didn't know what else to do. I couldn't just let you go."
He runs his tongue along his teeth and feels two that are sharper than he remembers.
"You don't have to stay here if you don't want to, but there's more than just me and Taako. We have more family that lives here, they get back in a week. We can help you adjust, and then you can head off to wherever you were going."
Slowly, Barry gets to his feet. He brushes the dirt and grass off his jeans, and steps to stand over Lup. He holds out a hand to help her up and she takes it. Once she's standing, he wraps her up in a hug and holds tight.
"Thanks for not letting me die," he murmurs.
Lup laughs, wrapping her arms around him and nuzzling in further, "technically you still died. But this way you aren't gone." They stand in the embrace for a while, then Lup asks, softly, "will you stay?"
Barry feels her breathing against him, feels how perfectly she slots into his arms, and he says, "yeah, I think I will."

Redoqs Rambles
TW: Anxiety
Overthinking has always been a rough thing for me though I never realized it until recently. It’s always had a way of sneaking up on me a lot of the time and by the time I realized that I’m doing it I’m already in deep. I start feeling almost overwhelmingly anxious—the worst of it including me being physically sick and unable to eat or sleep or do anything—and my mood is affected for a while after that until something comes along to pull me out of my funk and even then it only lasts for so long until the cycle starts again.
I’m not typing all this to focus on how bad the overthinking has gotten. I know how it felt when it was at its absolute worst. I know that if I had allowed it to continue it would cause me to harm those close to me and I refuse to let that happen. So after taking a bit to think about it, I took myself to therapy and it’s honestly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Over the course of the past few months the overthinking has gotten a lot better. Of course some days are more difficult than others, I know I still have things to learn and unlearn and sometimes the thoughts have a victory—for example, I had a thought today that got to me but I’m okay now. Proud of myself actually because months ago, a thought like that would’ve had me out of it for the whole day—but I have methods now that I can do that’ll help me ground myself whenever I get caught up in my thoughts. I have things I can do to help ease my mind and help me realize that about 99% of the things I’m thinking are not based on fact but rather assumptions that I’ve made up based on how I believed I felt.
A lot of good has come from it and I’m proud of myself but it’s not easy. The hardest part about all of this, for me, is admitting to myself that it’s all me. The overthinking and anxiety that comes from the thoughts, why I’m feeling the way that I do, how I allow myself to feel all stems from things within myself. No one wants to believe that they’re the problem but the best kind of people recognize their faults and try to fix them. Admitting that I’m the reason why I feel the way I do is daunting but also very freeing in a sense. I guess the first step to recovery is acknowledging that there are issues in the first place. I believe that it really works. Once I recognize what I’m feeling and where it’s coming from I can control it, give it time to run its course, determine if it’s based on fact or opinion and then let it go. It’s easier said than done but it does get easier everyday. This process allows me to control the flow of my thoughts before they get out of hand and focus on the positives rather than negatives that most likely won’t even happen. I want to get better and live my best life and every day I can feel myself getting closer and closer to that.
Like I said, this process hasn’t been easy but I’m getting through it and I’m proud of where I am now versus the beginning of the year. I have a few friends that I can definitely say have been there for me when some days were a little too much and I appreciate them more than they can ever know. I want to say though that there is someone else that I’m entirely grateful for, someone who’s never made me feel like I’m too much or that my personal feelings aren’t important. She’s been great to me, amazing actually. I couldn’t ask for a better person in my life and I wish I could think of something, anything I could do to express to her at least a little bit how much I appreciate all she’s done. This process would’ve been a lot harder without her support so thank you so much for being by my side and helping me, reassuring me and loving me. It means the universe to me and I’ll always cherish you. I genuinely hope you know that.

I guess I’m gonna squeeze in one last entry for the year (it's actually shortly before midnight). That is if I can write and edit it before the clock strikes midnight.
Listening to some scattered fireworks now, but not as much as I expected. Haven’t heard any since I last mentioned them, so it hasn’t been nearly as bad as July 4th was. It’s only 46° which is pretty damn cold for Florida, so that may be why.
Again, I’m not looking forward to the year ahead, knowing that I’m most likely in for all kinds of health problems and fatigue. As crazy and as superstitious as it may sound, I still worry something up there wants me tired and to impact my day-to-day life to the point where I’m just existing and not living, and therefore it’s going to block any attempt I make to try to fix it. I don’t expect any success with weight loss either. You have to have a normal thyroid for that. I don’t know if I’ll be in for a mix of the same old ongoing problems and new ones, but hopefully, nothing will be as bad as a decade ago.
Too tired to go on now, so this will have to wait till next year.
Later…
Still exhausted but I watched the ball go down, and instead of being excited for the year ahead, I burst into tears suddenly and unexpectedly. It only lasted for a couple of minutes but I haven’t cried like that in ages.
Later still…
Placed an order on Temu for Swiffer dusters, flower stencils, and hangers for the 18-in doll clothes. I’ve got all this closet space so it would be nice if I hung them up rather than stuffed them in drawers and bins because I want to keep everything in good shape in case I decide to sell anything.
We’ve been talking about selling the treadmill, Bowflex, and the vibration platform but he might want to keep the Bowflex and I think I want to keep the platform a little longer. I’ll offer the treadmill up in the park group but we’ve got to discuss what we want to ask for it.
Anyway, after showering and eating I got a burst of energy and did a little cleaning among other odds and ends. I decided to try not to worry too much about the future of my health because, like most of us, we have little to no control over what may come our way. Even though I don’t normally make New Year’s resolutions because I figure anything worth making a resolution to do would be a good thing at any time of year, I do have a few goals. Now that I have new insurance and new doctors, I want information. I want to know about alternative sleep apnea treatments, I want to know if there’s a way around my thyroid issues that would help get some weight off, and I want to make one last-ditch effort to fight for the N24 drug. As I told Tom, I don’t know that I can live the rest of my life being tired half of the time so if worse comes to worst, I’ll have a serious decision to make but that has to be MY choice to make. But I’m not going to give up until I’ve tried everything I can possibly do that’s within my power to help myself.
The stomach cramp and yeast infection are improving (I think).
Although I’m still wary of the year ahead, I’m hoping that 2023 is indeed the year I slayed the dragon! As in the beast called anxiety that tormented me to no end for the better part of a decade. The beast that nearly drove me to kill myself and that would have succeeded if it weren’t for Tom. I still hate the thought of deserting him but one can only take so much suffering, although the fatigue is certainly the lesser evil. I can’t stress it enough when I say that between the medication side effects and the transition from perimenopause to menopause, it really took the word “anxiety” to a whole new level and gave it a whole new meaning that I had no idea existed. I still don’t want to get my hopes up too high as far as thinking I kicked the anxiety for good. The killer anxiety that sent waves of adrenaline through my chest and fucked with my mind. It hasn’t been a whole year. But the fact that the days I was anxious last year don’t even amount to a month is incredible! I may have to worry I’m not going to have enough energy to get through the day when I get up but no longer do I have to be afraid to wake up and be tortured with what was easily the worst feeling in the world.
I am a little worried about Adonis, though. It was his birthday yesterday and I realized I hadn’t heard from him in ages. The last thing I see on his wall was posted in July. I know he wasn’t in the greatest headspace last time we talked so I hope he’s okay. I sent him a message and posted on his profile so hopefully I’ll get an answer soon. I don’t even know if he left the Netherlands to meet Joy in Vietnam or what’s going on in his life. I know he was upset about some things going on in his country and the world in general.
I get him there! I don’t know what would be worse…to be stuck with Biden again or for Trump to get reelected. Biden has been giving billions and billions of our dollars away to other countries and letting thousands and thousands of immigrants burden our system, but if Trump gets in as I think will be the case, we can count on the loss of freedoms intensifying and maybe even some that affect us.
Just random bits and pieces of dreams lately that don’t make much sense. I don’t remember my dreams as much as I used to but last night I overheard one of Termite Tammy’s bratty kids saying she had a mild heart attack. I’m not going to check her wall as I haven’t in quite a while because I just don’t care anymore. Not about her, not about her brood. They can live, die, be happy, be miserable, be successful, be failures, be healthy, be unhealthy… it’s all the same to me. I’ll never be able to forgive them or the people in Arizona but they’re not at the forefront of my life and mind anymore and they never will be again because I won’t be dumb enough to let them.
I also had a dream that I was supposed to ride my bike to some kind of art class while Tom was out (working?) but I didn’t go because it was too cold and started snowing.
Then there was another dream where we weren’t living in an adult community. Our house was on a large lot sort of behind a larger house in which someone recently moved into. They had a partially submerged basement and I peeked through the blinds to see a guy rummaging through a bunch of tools and other shit. I was worried I was going to be in for all kinds of noise.
In the last dream, I was hitting the road only it was in real life and I was jogging. I was jogging down a street filled with heavy traffic at a comfortable pace.
I miss the days when I was able to do that but I’m definitely not in that kind of shape anymore due to the fatigue holding me back. Even if I was in great shape, that’s not something I could do during the summers here. I’d have to jog in place since the house is too small to really run around much in.

Lost and found
The phone ring resonated from the kitchen, waking Amaeka up and making Astrophe run from the counter and to the living room in surprise. With a faint groan, she lifted herself off her bed and went to answer, letting a yawn escape from her lips.
“Hey, Rosita, why’d you call me at seven and a half on a Saturday? Also, you know you can contact me without the tech stuff,” she said, her voice still slightly rough from sleep.
“Sorry, your Majesty,” the woman on the other side of line told her with a faint sigh, though there was a hint of humour in her voice. “I just wanted to ask you something and I lent my bracelet to Gwydion, they were curious about it.”
Amaeka grumbled something intelligible under her breath before speaking again, more clearly. “Okay, shoot,” she let out, brushing a few wild strands of her platinum blond fringe and jet black mane out of her face.
“Did you hear the news about Mac Tíre? It seems they finally found him… took them a while,” Kassja chuckled to better hide her nervosity.
“Yeah, I…” she took a deep breath, “I’ve heard about it. Kind of hard not to, to be honest. Even some of my students were talking about it. I’m almost surprised no one asked to have a special class dedicated to that.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” she asked gently, not meaning to push. “I know you cared about him, so talking might make you feel better…”
Amaeka stayed silent for a few moments, taking a few deep breaths. “Yes, yes, I know very well how things like that work, you know,” she let a sigh escape from her lips, blinking away the tears that stung her eyes. “But no… I don’t really want to talk about it. I can’t really find the right word… I’d rather just put it on canvas.”
“If you say so. But I still want you to know that I’m here for you… we all are.” Kassja told her with a quiet, almost sad chuckle. “Just don’t isolate yourself because you think you need to show a strong facade.”
“Okay…” she hesitated, wondering if she really wanted to ask. “Did you… did anyone receive any information about Blaidd?” She asked, her tone almost pleading.
“No… no one’s heard or seen anything concrete about him for thirty, forty years,” the scientist answered. “I’m… sorry Magpie. I know both of them mean a lot to you.”
“I’ll be fine,” she said, putting as much conviction in her voice as possible. “Hundreds of humans die every day. It’s not like I’ve never lost companions before… I shouldn’t get my hopes up too much just because one of them somehow reappeared again after decades.”
Kassja stayed silent for a moment, perhaps considering her next words, before letting you a sigh. “I understand. Take care of yourself, ‘kay? We care for you, all of us. Don’t stay down.”
“Noted,” she told her, a small smile tracing itself on her lips. “Have a good day, my friend. And please don’t call me at this early hour anymore,” she said, quickly adding the last part before hanging up. Amaeka gently tossed her phone back on the kitchen counter, a hand running through her hair. She let herself fall on the nearest chair, her nimble fingers partially obscuring her vision.
“Bloody rollercoaster of a week, hasn’t it been?” she whispered to herself, her elbow leaning on the tabletop.
Astrophe peeked out from the living room and quietly walked to the history professor, gently pawing her leg before jumping into her lap. He butted his head against her, purring up a storm to get her mind off of the gloom it had found itself in. A chuckle escaped from her lips and she started to scratch him behind the ears. He looked up at her, amber eyes gleaming with understanding and intelligence.
“Need something?” he seemed to ask her, tilting his fluffy triangular head.
“No thank you, kitty,” she told the cat, a smile coming back to her. “Even if you could help me with this, I’m afraid that my problems are my own to fix… especially when I’m part of the reason they’re problems to begin with.”
“You really think it’s a problem?” he inquired again, looking her in the eyes.
“You ask a lot of questions today, don’t you?” she said, booping his little nose.
“I might stop if you give me scratches,” he offered, angling his head to make his chin a bit more accessible to her. Amaeka rolled her eyes and complied with a small smirk, giving her cat plenty of affection to shut him up.

Alex’s tattoo shows up the day after she punches Marcus Hinkle.
He had been picking on Kara in the hallway, dangling her math book above her head, taking advantage of his summer growth spurt.
Kara still doesn’t know what possessed Alex – Marcus Hinkle had been a thorn in her side since she had landed on Earth and started school a year ago, but whatever the reason, today was the day Alex couldn’t take anymore.
Eliza had been furious. Jeremiah had been (not so) silently proud.
Kara didn’t know what she had felt, really. Especially not when she asked Alex why, and the older girl had just shrugged and said “You’re my sister. It’s what we do.”
Up until this point being sisters meant fights in the hallway over the bathroom and ignoring each other at the dinner table.
Apparently, things were changing.
Kara is just waking up when she hears Alex’s hushed “What the hell?”
“What is it?” She asks, groggily sitting up and wiping at the sleep in her eyes.
Her sister is holding her forearm up, frantically scrubbing at a spot right in the middle, her eyes frantic.
“I don’t…. I don’t know! It’s like a tattoo but I didn’t get a tattoo! Fuck, Mom is going to kill me.” Alex sounds panicked as she continues scrubbing at the spot, and Kara feels her heartbeat speed up.
“You had a tattoo just appear on your skin?” Kara asks slowly, her mind suddenly far away on a planet that doesn’t exist anymore, in a culture she had been forced to leave behind.
Alex stops scrubbing and looks at Kara with a piercing gaze. “Yeah. It’s some funny symbol too, like the way you used to write before you learned English. Did you do this to me?”
Alex leaps off the bed and crosses the room in two quick strides, arm held out like an accusation.
Kara shrinks in on herself a little but nods. “I think so. I didn’t know it was possible here, but well, on Krypton when your soul mate reveals themselves, a tattoo linking you appears. I should have one too, somewhere, if you do.”
Alex stops dead in her tracks, her eyes wide. “Soul mates? But we’re sisters! That’s so gross!”
Jumping up from the bed, hands held up in surrender Kara hastens to explain further. “No! Not like that, I promise! Back home, people had different kinds of soul mates. Sometimes it was the romantic kind like you talk about here on Earth, but other times it could just be a compatible soul, someone who was meant to be a part of you.”
Alex still looks wary, if not relieved, as she tentatively holds out her arm. “So, what does this mean? What kind of soul mates are we?”
Stepping forward Kara delicately traces the symbols on Alex’s forearm. “It literally means “sister of the soul.” Je shesur. The symbol after it is unique, the way we would know we were linked. If this had happened on Krypton it would mean we were soul sisters. Not from the same parents but family just the same.”
Alex nods. “And here on Earth? What does it mean here?”
“The same thing. At least that’s what it means to me.” Kara refuses to meet Alex’s eyes, not sure she wants to see what waits for her there.
There’s a long minute of silence after Alex takes her arm back. The clearing of her throat brings Kara’s eyes up from their place on the ground.
“Where’s yours?” Alex asks, eyes burning with curiosity.
Kara shrugs. “I don’t know. It’s not on my arms like yours is. It must be hidden. Can you look on my back?”
“Sure.” Alex nods. “Lift up your shirt.”
Kara turns and tugs her shirt up and over her head. It takes a moment, but she hears her sister gasp followed by the feel of fingertips against her left shoulder blade.
“It’s the same as mine.” Alex says reverently, and Kara closes her eyes against the emotion welling up there.
Who would have thought she would get to have this piece of home?
“So, I guess I’m stuck with you. For like, ever, huh?” Alex smiles once Kara has turned back around.
Kara grins back. “Yeah, I guess so.”
Alex shrugs. “Could be worse. But you have to tell Mom about this, because she’ll never believe me, and she is going to be pissed that I have a tattoo.”
“Sure, I can tell Mom.” Kara grins, a piece of her heart settling in place. She hasn’t felt at home on Earth, not really, but at this moment she feels like it isn’t all that bad.
--
The next person to get a tattoo is, interestingly enough, James.
It doesn’t come when they’re dating, or whatever it was that they were doing, no.
It comes after he has revealed himself to be Guardian, and he and Kara have the biggest fight of their friendship.
Kara wakes up the morning after tired, groggy, and more than a little cranky. Its as she’s stripping down to get in the shower that she notices it – the Kryptonese scrawled along the inside of her right bicep.
Throniv Shesur. Protector of the soul.
Kara heaves a deep, deep, sigh and grabs her phone.
She meets James at the DEO, both tentative around each other after the yelling match of the day before.
“So. I woke up with a tattoo. Kryptonese. Any idea what that’s about?” James looks smug, like he’s won some kind of battle with Kara and god, at that moment she wishes they were in the training room and she could just punch him.
“Yeah. I did too. It means “protector of the soul.” She crosses her arms against her chest, desperately trying to hold onto her anger from yesterday but the wide grin on James’ face is making it hard.
“I know. I asked Clark first thing since I figured you’re still pissed at me. He was a little surprised, but he translated it for me.”
“Where’s it at?” Kara asks, still pretending to be upset but truthfully it was hard given the glaring message from home telling her that James was meant to be Guardian. That they were meant to protect each other. Protect others together.
“I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.” James says with a waggle of his eyebrows and that’s what finally breaks Kara, a laugh ringing out across the room.
It wasn’t who she expected to have a tattoo, not in this way at least, but if it had to be anyone, she’s glad it’s James.
--
Mon-El doesn’t get a tattoo. Kara wishes she were more disappointed.
--
The last person to get a tattoo is someone Kara had desperately hoped both would and would not get a tattoo.
For a long time, she feared what that tattoo would be, if it were to happen. She feared having to explain it, having to explain herself.
She had checked with Clark a few times, when paranoia would get the better of her.
No, he always told her. Lex did not have a tattoo. They were enemies, yes, but it hadn’t been decided by destiny or fate. It just was.
That mollified Kara because she couldn’t stand it if she and Lena were to become Clark and Lex. She would fight against it, fight against fate to keep it from happening.
And then, well. It kind of happens anyways.
They aren’t enemies, not really. Lena just hates Kara and aims a few Kryptonite cannons at her and tries to mind control the entire planet, but really everyone is allowed a brief lapse of their sensibility, right?
And what matters is she came around, in the end.
It did take time, however, for them to build back to what they once had. It was different now, but in the way that things once broken and fixed usually are.
It was better, if anything.
They were back to shared lunches and dinners, quick breakfasts and coffee breaks. They were back to game nights as partners and movie nights as friends, and the occasional sleepovers as best friends.
Things were finally back to normal, so of course Kara had to go and absolutely, irrevocably, mess it up.
It was Alex’s fault, really.
If she hadn’t said anything, if she hadn’t asked Kara what was up between her and Lena lately, Kara probably never would have stopped to think about it.
She never would have stopped to think about the way her heart sped up when Lena entered a room, or the way her palms got sweaty when they hugged, or the way she just could not stop staring at Lena when she laughed at game nights.
But now she had thought of it and had come to the very scary conclusion that she was in love with her best friend.
Her best friend who didn’t have a tattoo.
She would, after all this time, have a tattoo, the tattoo, if they were meant to be together, right?
Kara mulls it over for weeks. It haunts her. She asks Lena about tattoos, and if she has any.
She learns that yes, in fact Lena does have tattoos and boy howdy one of them is on her lower back and it is seared into the back of her eyes now that she has seen it.
But she doesn’t have any kryptonian tattoos, which is really what Kara was aiming for.
Much like it was Alex’s fault that Kara even realized she was in love, it’s also Alex who reminds Kara of one important detail.
“Well I didn’t get my tattoo until after I punched what’s his face. Maybe you have to tell Lena how you feel and then she’ll get the tattoo.”
Kara feels dumb struck, right there on her own couch, because of course, Alex is right.
The tattoos always come after the person has already revealed themselves.
Then of course comes the true fear: what if she tells Lena and she still doesn’t get a tattoo?
That’s the question she’s mulling over the next night as she and Lena sit on her couch watching some documentary that had been put on Netflix.
Lena looks beautiful, face bare of makeup, hair piled on top of her head in a messy bun, glasses slipping down her nose.
She’s eating a piece of pizza, a rare treat after a long week of work, and Kara decides that it doesn’t matter if Lena doesn’t get a tattoo.
She’s hopelessly, desperately in love with the woman and she can’t let a tattoo that may or may not come dictate her life.
“I’m in love with you, you know.” Kara blurts out, like this isn’t a life changing moment, like it’s the easiest thing in the world to say. (It is.)
Lena chokes a little on the bite she was swallowing, her hand coming up to her chest as she sets down the slice.
“Excuse me?”
Kara laughs. She’s never felt more free than in this moment. “I’m in love with you. I just thought you should know.”
Lena looks at her, shock written all over her face. “Oh. I guess that’s good.”
“Just good?” Kara nudges Lena’s thigh with her knee.
Lena shakes her head. “I mean it’s more than good, considering I’m in love with you too.”
“Yeah?” Kara could float up to the moon, she thinks.
Lena smiles, nose crinkled. “Yeah.”
It’s the next morning that Lena calls and asks if Kara can stop by. She has this tattoo she didn’t have yesterday, right on her ribcage, and it looks like it’s Kryptonian.
Kara frantically searches her own body, finding the script on her hip, on the left side.
Zhao Shesur. Love of the soul.
It took them five years to get to this point, but Kara knows, this moment was more than worth the wait.

"Why are you ignoring Carol?" Wanda asked with a frown as you sped out of the school car park a little too hastily. She narrowed her eyes at you, ready to read into every expression that flickered across your face.
"I'm not ignoring her, I'm avoiding her. It's different." You insisted as you kept your eyes on the road in front of you, determined to leave the school grounds before a certain blonde left the building and got into her own car.
"It's exactly the same thing just in a different font." Wanda stated as she continued to watch you.
"It's not. And anyway, I'm not obligated to talk to her." You said quieter, not finding enough confidence in your words. Of course you weren't obligated to talk to Carol, but you missed it - more than you would admit to yourself.
"I know, I thought you liked her though. You said your date went well with her but since then you run out of every room she enters."
"It wasn't really a date." You muttered as took a left and eyed your mirror.
"Y/n." Wanda laughed. "I think I know a date when it's described to me."
"But it's Carol, Wanda. Carol doesn't do dates." You insisted as you tried your hardest to avoid your friend's gaze again. You didn't want her to see the pain in your eyes.
"She did with you."
"She went down on me-"
"Yes, I remember that catch up conversation." Wanda chuckled and you threw an empty sweet packet you had left in the car at her.
"And I'm not complaining about that. It's just... you know I'm not one to judge people by rumors, but Carol seems like a pretty strict 'hookups only' type of gal. Every time me and Carol are alone together we end up fucking and again, I'm not complaining about that, but it's enough to tell me she doesn't want anything more from me. Not even fuck buddies, because she doesn't commit to girls." You breathed out deeply as you parked up outside yours and Wanda's favourite coffee shop, suddenly not able to tell if you weren't in the mood for your hot chocolate or in desperate need of one.
"I think there might be a little more to it than that." Wanda said after a moment. She knew where you were coming from but she also couldn't deny the fidgety nature and anxious look in the blonde's eyes a few days prior.
"She called it a date last time you were together, she hasn't done that before. She was worried when you were sick and she's only ever worried when her teammates are sick."
"She wasn't worried." You rolled your eyes lightly and managed a small smile at Wanda.
"Oh she definitely was."
You groaned when you heard your phone vibrate on your bedside table. You rolled over begrudgingly, only bothering to check it because you knew it was lunch break at school and it might have been Wanda sending you the class notes you had asked for.
Unknown number: when I saw you weren't in class I assumed you were dead
You frowned as you took a double take of the message and the number you didn't recognize. The fuck? You decided to respond anyway, if they were in your class and texted you maybe they would send you their notes too.
You: sorry, who is this??
Unknown number: your favourite jock ;)
They replied, pretty much instantly. You put two and two together, but really the smirking face would have been enough.
You: Carol? How did you get this number??
You rubbed your eyes and pulled you sick bowl closer to you, frowning at the discomfort you felt.
Unknown number: so I am your favourite jock?? Good to know
You rolled your eyes and groaned more, knowing Carol wouldn't be forgetting that in a hurry. You didn't respond to that, instead shutting off your phone in hopes of getting more sleep but a minute later another text came through. You knew it would be Carol, but you still reached over to check it.
Unknown number: and Wanda gave it to me
"Dammit, Wanda." You grumbled, going to write her an angry message but Carol had something else to say.
Unknown number: I asked very nicely
You fought off a smile weakly and decided to change her contact, telling yourself it might be useful to keep it.
Jackass: You home alone?
She didn't seem to want to stop talking. Although you couldn't deny that it made you smile more when you wondered if she meant was anyone there to look after you.
You: I am, parents have to work
Jackass: want me to come over and make you feel better? ;)
Suddenly you didn't feel like talking to Carol anymore. You were sick and feeling crappy and all Carol wanted to do was fuck, she was hardly subtle about it either. If you hadn't already been thinking long and hard about what the jock could possible think of you, that would have been the moment you started to ponder it.
With your mood somehow lowered even more, you turned your phone off to go back to sleep, accidentally swiping the notification that read Jackass: * :)
"I still can't believe you gave her my number." You grumbled as you swirled the chocolaty drink in front of you.
"She did ask very nicely." Wanda grinned.
"Enough about her." You said, leaning forward on your elbows to grin back at your friend. "How's your girlfriend?"
*
You were on your phone when you saw a donut being pushed across the table towards you out of the corner of your eye. It was your favourite type that also happened to be the one the cafeteria rarely sold, so when it landed in front of you you looked up with a smile, expecting to see Wanda smiling knowingly back at you.
Carol grinned as she pulled out the chair opposite you and sat herself down. Your eyes flickered over to Wanda who was trying to hide her smile and look away.
"It's for you." Carol said after a second.
"What do I have to do for it?" You asked, only half joking as you eyed the treat suspiciously.
"Come on another date with me." She winked. You leaned back and looked away from Carol and the donut, displeased but not surprised. "Nothing." Carol said quickly. "You don't have to do anything, I just know that one's your favourite." The blonde said. You had never told her that. You eyed Wanda again who quickly looked away like she hadn't been watching the interaction and leaned into Natasha.
"Thank you, Danvers." You said quietly, moving the napkin that the donut was on closer to you.
"I thought we were passed that." Carol chuckled, you wanted to smile at the sound. Carol leaned down to grab something out of her rucksack as you started on the donut, not entirely sure if you should try make conversation or just run away.
"I took notes yesterday, while you were gone." The jock said as she put her notebook on the table and flicked through her badly organised pages to find the one she was looking for. You raised your eyebrows slightly in response.
You had never once seen Carol take actual notes in class, but when she spun the book around to face you you were even more surprised to see the detailed notes she had been taking, even with a couple of small diagrams at the bottom she had probably copied from the board.
"Are they okay? Wilson's pretty good at this shit I'm sure I could get him to-"
"They're great!" You interrupted. "They're...fuck, I'm sorry but since when did you take notes?" You didn't want to seem rude but it felt like you were witnessing a never before seen event or the discovery of a new species.
"Just figured you would want them." Carol shrugged and took a sandwich out her bag.
"Yeah I... thank you." You muttered and smiled when you saw a small doodle of a star. "Can I?" You asked as you motioned to your phone's camera. Carol nodded with a smile and watched as you took photos of her notes.
Wanda coughed from across the table and you shot daggers at her, knowing what she so desperately wanted to say. She hasn't done that for anyone else.
*
"It was sweet of her though." Wanda pointed out as her eyes stayed fixed on Natasha's form.
"It was, but you've gotten me donuts before and you don't want to date me." You said as you tried to stop your eyes trailing to Carol again as they seemed to keep doing.
"Well if Natasha wasn't here..." Wanda teased with a smile. You rolled your eyes at your friend and chuckled.
"Are Carol's abs as hard as they look?" Wanda asked randomly. You couldn't help but look up at the blonde at the mention of her name and perhaps one of your favourite things about her.
It was a hot day and her team was training hard on the field, so most of the athletes had their shirts off. Carol's abs were on full display and given the amount of core stretches she had been doing they were as prominent as ever.
"They are." You muttered, remembering the first time you ran your hands across her chest.
You heard giggling in the row behind you and turned around to see a group of girls also watching Carol and her team train. It was obvious their gazes fell on the same area yours had and suddenly you remembered the long list of names that Carol used to show off proudly.
The girl's whispers became louder as did the giggling and without realizing what you were doing you found yourself comparing you to them. They were popular, effortlessly beautiful and probably had much more experience than you ever had. You couldn't compete with that. Especially when you didn't even know why Carol wanted you. You rested your head on your knees and tried to zone out the world around you as your insecurities ate at you more.
"Come on." Wanda nudged you gently as she stood up from the bleachers. You grabbed your bag and followed after her, noticing that practice was apparently over.
Natasha was standing at the bottom of the bleachers and pulled Wanda into a tight hug. You smiled at the motion, wishing you had what they did.
"Hey." Carol said to you, her eyes shining lightly in the sun.
"Hey yourself." You nodded as you began to walk behind Wanda and Nat. Carol fell into place beside you and made you think about the height difference between you. You were convinced she could give the best piggy back rides.
"You make it look easy." You blurted out. Carol arched a perfect brow at you as she pulled her shirt over her head. "Sport." You generalized, waving your hands.
"Y/n is allergic to sport." Wanda called back.
"Is that right?" Carol smirked as she looked at you.
"It is not, it's just not my thing." You defended.
"Then what is your thing?" Carol asked curiously.
"Wouldn't you like to know." You replied as you searched your brain, not really knowing if you had a thing. Nothing serious at least.
"I would." Carol fired back.
"That's too bad." The jock smiled and decided not to push.
"I'm sure there's a sport you can do." Carol pondered.
"If there is if it could be added to the curriculum that would be really helpful." You sighed.
"Y/n L/n, are you failing a class?" Carol gasped dramatically. You groaned when Wanda laughed, confirming the blonde's assumption.
"Could be worse, I fail loads of classes and everything seems to work out okay." Carol said calmly, seemingly completely unfazed.
You reached the car park and slowed down when you saw Natasha follow Wanda to her car. Wanda was your lift to school and therefore your ride home too. You had stayed behind to study in the library and joined your friend on the bleachers when it shut to see the last of the teams training, not thinking about the fact Wanda was staying behind so she could hang out with Natasha after.
"I can give you a ride home." Carol offered as she threw her car keys up in the air and caught them easily. You pondered that for a second, you really didn't want to be a third wheel to your friend, even if it was a short drive home.
"Yeah, thanks, Danvers." Wanda gave you a knowing smile as she waved goodbye and practically ran to her car with Natasha.Yeah, definitely the best call to leave them alone.
You got into Carol's car and tried to ignore all the memories you had of being in the backseat, instead resting your arm against the window to try and keep your focus on that. Carol didn't say much as you drove which surprised you. She seemed deep in thought about something and you couldn't help but wonder what.
"You want to come to mine?" She said suddenly. You froze in your seat before answering.
"Just my place will do. For me only! I mean I... I have homework." You rambled and felt your whole face heat up. You wondered if being in a car with Wanda and Natasha jumping each other could possibly be more uncomfortable than being sat with Carol and trying to decline her advances.
"I could help." She offered, seemingly genuinely.
"I can handle it." You forced a laugh. Carol nodded and didn't say anything else until she pulled up to your house.
"Thanks again, Danvers." You smiled at the blonde as you hauled you bag up and opened the door.
"I'm always happy to help you out, y/n." Carol smiled back your way genuinely and your stomach did a little flip.
*
You hummed to yourself quietly as you made your way through the school corridors and opened the double doors to the library. You smiled to the librarian as always and got a limited response but your smile faltered when you saw your usual table was taken... by Carol.
She was in her training attire and scrolling mindlessly through her phone until she glanced up and saw you. "Hey." She smiled.
"Are you lost?" You asked as you walked towards her slowly.
"No and go get changed." Was all she said as she pushed a bag of school gym clothes towards you.
"And why would I do that?" You sighed as you peered into the bag.
"Y/n," Carol started as she tilted her chair back and rested her hands behind her head with her feet on the table, her usual confident smile playing on her lips. "Does it or does it not absolutely kill you that you're failing a class?" You paused before flicking yours eyes up to her. Yes, it absolutely did.
"And am I or am I not the best athlete in the school?" Also hard to argue with. You shifted on your feet.
"Come on, y/n. I promise I'll help you at least pass the class." Carol said with certainty. You chewed your gum as you thought about it.
"What do you get out of it?" You asked as you narrowed your eyes at the blonde.
"I can go to sleep at night knowing I've helped an underling." She grinned. You rolled your eyes but couldn't help but smile at her, Carol continued to smile back at you.
"That A* you got us on that project made me pass the class." Carol shrugged.
"Alright, Danvers." You nodded and picked up the bag. "But no funny business."
"Great!" She exclaimed and took her feet off the table to stand up.
"I'll see you in the main hall in 10."
*
Barely ten minutes into Carol's 'warm ups' you were already out of breath and in need of a break. You glared at her every time she barked orders at you with a grin, clearly enjoying bossing you around.
"Catch!" Carol exclaimed as she hauled a basketball at you. You ducked out the way and watched it fly past your head.
"You trying to kill me?!" Carol was bent over laughing at your exasperation and inability to catch a simple ball.
"Shut the fuck up, Danvers." You huffed but managed to hit the second ball that came your way.
"You really are allergic to sports huh?" She teased as you scowled at her. "Okay, let's start with the basics."
Surprisingly, from that point onward Carol wasn't that bad. She gave you a lot of pointers that honestly proved helpful because you slowly started to improve. Granted, you were still bad, but you were better.
"Arms like this." She instructed and watched as you mimicked her shooting position. "Elbows a little higher." You did as she said but she smiled at the attempt and stepped behind you. You froze up a little when she put her hands over yours and lifted them up too to a position that felt more natural.
"You got it." She assured, speaking right next to your ear so you could feel her breath against your skin. Then she withdrew her soft hands from yours and backed away. You missed the contact immediately.
"Now shoot." She instructed. You missed.
*
Carol trained you after school pretty much every day after that. Your limbs always ached after those sessions, so much so you were tempted to cave and take Carol up on her offer of a back rub.
You found that some sports were actually kind of fun to play with Carol, whether it was the absence of the pressure you got in a full class of teenagers or just because you enjoyed the blonde's company, it wasn't all that bad.
You still couldn't find a sport you were good at, but you didn't really care. You wondered what would happen when you did. Would Carol coach you at it for a bit then abandon your sessions? They couldn't keep going forever. The pang you got in your chest was the reason you had been ignoring Carol weeks prior, you didn't want to feel that for her. You just couldn't help it.
"Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night." You recalled as Valkyrie wrote it down.
"I knew it was something like that." She waved off.
"Yeah you were really close with..." You glanced at her notes. "She gives me a boner." You laughed and put your face in your hand.
"That's the modern day translation!" Valkyrie exclaimed defensively.
"Please don't put that in your exam." You sighed as you flicked through your copy of Romeo and Juliet to find the next act.
"One sec." Valkyrie said as she looked down at her phone that was vibrating on the desk with a caller ID that you couldn't read.
"Hey, Captain." Valkyrie answered. You looked her way and back at your book quickly. There was more than one Captain in the school.
"I'm in the library studying." She continued and paused for the other voice to speak. "It's not that bad, a pretty girl's teaching me Romeo and Juliet." Valkyrie winked at you and you smiled weakly back, suddenly feeling uncomfortable. Fucking jocks and their shameless flirtation.
"Yeah I'll be done soon, see you then." She said and hung up the phone before turning back to you.
"Are there any quotes about boners?" The minutes after that went by painstakingly slowly. It was only a one off tutoring session that you would get an extra credit for, but you could think of a million things you would rather be doing with your lunch break.
Valkyrie nodded past you at someone at the library entrance. You turned around out of instinct and saw Carol strolling towards your table, eyes focused on you.
"Thanks for this." Valkyrie said as she packed away her things. "If I pass the exam I'm gonna have to find some way to make it up to you." She smirked as her eyes trailed over your legs.
You glanced at Carol who looked far from pleased at Valkyrie's comment and couldn't help but smile because that is exactly what she sounded like to you sometimes.
"That's okay." You muttered as you tried to avoid her gaze and put your books back in your bag.
"Alright, but I'm having a party this weekend. You should come."
"I'm not really a party person." You laughed awkwardly, wanting the encounter to be over.
"You don't have to spend long at the party itself." Valkyrie shrugged as she took a bold step towards you. "You could always stay in my room-"
"She said no." Carol cut in. Her eyes bore into Valkyrie's with a look that said the conversation was over. Her stance was firm and her jaw was tightly locked as she glared at her team mate. Valkyrie frowned and looked back at you as you fiddled with your bag zip and avoided her eye, silently thanking Carol even if she had been a tad aggressive.
"Right, sorry." Valkyrie muttered before making her way past you. Carol gave you a small smile before turning to leave with her team mate. You were sure Wanda would have something to say about that.

It was a few days until you saw Carol again. She had texted you to briefly say she had practice after school and you didn't see her at lunch breaks either. It annoyed you to admit you missed her company.
With every second you spent with the jock your crush on her grew. You knew that any longer and you may just end up head over heals for her which would only end in heart break for you. But every time you saw the wisp of blonde hair, shine of brown eyes with her confident smile or even just that god damn varsity jacket, you didn't care about how it could end.
It was a Thursday when she texted you during lunch to ask if you wanted to practice after school. You replied a little too eagerly with a yes and continued listening to Wanda rant about something dumb Pietro had done.
A few hours later you held a bat in your hands and prepared for Carol to throw the ball your way. She wasn't very talkative that day, a rarity for the blonde. You wanted to ask if something was up with her but the concentrated look on her face made you not want to disrupt her train of thought.
"I'm sorry." She said suddenly.
"That's alright." You sighed as you watched the ball roll across the field. That was a particularly fast throw.
"About snapping in the library." Carol corrected. "I didn't mean to make it awkward." She said as she scratched the back or her neck then stretched her arm to throw again.
"You didn't." You assured honestly. "I was already uncomfortable." You huffed as you missed another throw from Carol even after trying to apply all her tips.
"Val can be quite persistent." Carol said, still not showing her smile.
"Just like someone else I know." You shrugged. Carol faltered at the obvious call out.
"Lets switch." She said quietly and handed you her glove as she took the bat from you. She explained to you the basics of her own throwing techniques and had a few recommendations on what she thought might work best for you.
"If you ever told me no, I'd back off." Carol said as put the bat up. You were thrown off by the sudden shift in conversation.
"I know you would have." You hoped Carol noticed your use of past tense. You had already decided that sex with her again would be too dangerous for you. God only knows what you would end up blurting out. You cringed at the thought of confessing your love for Carol as she fucked you.
Your eyes shifted to the track team that were doing their laps around another part of the field. They made it look as easy as always.
"You got eyes for one of them, y/n?" Carol asked in a voice that seemed more curious than teasing.
"Not my type." You muttered as you threw the ball weakly again.
"What is your type?" Carol asked, unable to mask her curiosity that time.
"I don't know." You huffed. The blonde looked at you expectantly, clearly hoping for something more. "And what's your type, Danvers?" You asked, successfully shifting the conversation when you saw a glint in Carol's eyes. Her smile returned.
"Eh, about (your height), (your eye colour) eyes, terrible at sport but really cute so it's dorky." Carol shrugged. Damn, that could almost be me. You glanced up at the blonde to throw again and saw her smirking at you.
"Someone should warn her." You joked in a feeble attempt to hide your disappointment that we swelling in the pit of your stomach.
"I just did." Wait... Carol's smirk grew as she watched the realization spread across your face. You blushed deeply and tried to fight off a smile.
"I don't think baseball's working either." You muttered.
*
"You know it's strange, I always thought you were going to become a jock." Pietro said thoughtfully before taking a bite of his apple.
"First of all how dare you and secondly what the hell gave you that idea?" You exclaimed. Wanda was giggling besides you while Carol gave you a look of faux offence.
"That's the highest compliment!" She argued.
"I second that." Natasha nodded.
"Do you remember Wanda's 14th birthday party?" Pietro asked.
"It's a treasured memory." You grinned at Wanda. "I kicked your ass at bowling." You recalled proudly.
"You kicked everyone's ass at it. Bowling's a sport isn't it?" Apparently word had spread about Carol's private lessons. You and the blonde had spent weeks going back and forth between different sports. Overall, you were still pretty crap but you had been lifted to a passing grade in the class. You kept meaning to tell Carol that, but you didn't want the lessons to end. You concluded that as long as she didn't ask, you wouldn't tell.
"I'd say so." Wanda shrugged but Carol and Natasha clearly had different opinions.
"Fuck no!"
"Please do not align that with us!" They erupted. You and Wanda started to laugh at their outraged expression, never knowing something to piss a jock off more.
The sound of the bell overhead was followed by a few groans from those around the table as you all packed up and left the table. At least it was a Friday. You wandered across the field on your usual route of going round the main buildings to avoid the crowded corridors, lost in your thoughts until someone jogged up besides you.
"Bowling, huh?" She inquired as she slowed down to a walk.
"It's been years." You said offhandedly.
"You got plans tomorrow?"
"Nope."
"We should go bowling, if you want to. Obviously just as part of your lessons." Carol offered as she looked ahead.
"I thought you said it isn't a sport." You eyed the blonde suspiciously with a smile.
"It isn't, but this I have to see."
"Okay." You nodded without much thought. Bowling with the jock did sound fun.
"I'll pick you up at 2."
*
"These shoes are ridiculous." Carol grumbled.
"American football shoulder pads are ridiculous but you don't hear me calling that out." You fired back.
"Oh, so that was meant at someone else?"
"Sure." You shrugged as you smiled at Carol's brightly coloured shoes. You went onto your lane and gleamed at the nostalgic sound of pins being knocked over and the bright spot lights across the lanes.
Carol put your names into the scoreboard tablet as you ran your hands over the bowling balls and frowned slightly as you realized you still had to use one of the smaller ones.
"Experts first." Carol motioned to the beginning of the lane with a small smirk and you smiled back at her excitedly and grabbed a ball.
"Just remember it's been a while!" You called back to the eagerly watching blonde. She hummed back. You brought the ball up to your chest to have a feel of the weight and glared at the pins, there had to be something you could impress Carol with. With a deep breath, you swung your arm back and forward to let the ball go, center down the lane and colliding with the painted targets. All but one knocked over and you couldn't help but throw tour hands up in the air in triumph.
"That was pretty good!" You declared as you turned back to Carol happily. She beamed back at you, giving you a smile that made her eyes squint and look absolutely adorable.
You grabbed the second ball and rolled it smoothly across the polished floor, successfully hitting the last pin. Carol strolled up after you, her hands hovering over the range in front of her and landing on one for someone with a bigger hand. You scoffed quietly, not believing the jock could hold it but she picked it up with ease.
You stood, wide eyed, watched as she sauntered over to the lane and swung her arm. The ball veered off to the side and took down a couple of pins that Carol glared at.
"Unlucky is all." She grumbled as she went to get another ball. This time when she threw it it fell into the dip along the side, it was hard to hide your amusement.
"That's just bullshit." Carol grumbled.
"Do you want me to put the sides up for you, Danvers? Or maybe I could ask someone for that ramp." You teased. She flipped you off and went to sit on the small sofa and watched you carefully.
You knocked most of the pins over on your next few goes while Carol got very little. You tried to give her a few tips but apparently her ego was too big to accept them, which meant you were winning marginally.
You spun around to face the blonde after knocking the last of your pins over but she wasn't on her spot on the sofa. You were about to get your phone out to text her but you spotted her sauntering back towards your area with a bowl of nachos. Your mouth watered at the sight.
Carol gave a dramatic huff as she spotted the scoreboard and beckoned you over to the small table by the sofas. "We'll start a new round after these." She said as she put them on the table. "I didn't poison them." She quipped when you didn't move.
"Sometimes I think you'd do anything to win." You replied as you sat down opposite her and took one of the nachos. In all honesty you weren't expecting Carol to get the snack, never mind to want to share it.
Carol flexed her right hand absent mindedly as she glanced around at over areas of the alley. "Your hand hurting?" You asked as you took another nacho with a lot of cheese on it.
"A little." She shrugged and lifted it up to look at the back of her mind. Without thinking, you put your hand and pressed it gently flat against hers. Not only were her fingers longer than yours but her palm was bigger too, even her wrist was thicker. It was only when you caught Carol's eye that you went to bring your hand away but she laced her fingers through yours and put them down on the table.
"Sorry, I was just curious." You blushed even though it was clear Carol didn't mind.
"Okay." She chuckled as she continued on the nachos. You finished the rest of the snack in silence with your hands still together until you leaned back and glanced at the lane again.
"Ready to have your ass kicked again?" You quipped.
"Don't get cocky, kid." Carol mused as she rolled her eyes with a smile.
"Since when did you know Star Wars?" You asked in complete disbelief.
"I love Star Wars." Carol said casually. "And since always."
"I didn't take you for the type." You smiled as you tried to study the jock for any signs of a lie.
"That's just because you never asked." She shrugged and stood up, letting your hands slide apart. You missed the contact instantly but that didn't distract you enough from her words.
Of course you had never asked her something like that, Star Wars was the last thing you'd guess she would like. You knew there was always more to people than what they showered publicly, but Carol had always seemed like such an open book in every way. So hearing that she wasn't quite what you thought she was, even after the few months of knowing her better, simply made you impossibly more interested in the blonde. You stared at Carol in nothing short of awe, she was really something else.
"I've had enough of these shoes." She declared.
"You quitting on me Danvers?" You quipped but really your heart dropped at the thought she wanted to cut your outing short.
"I'm just thinking we could try our hand at a few other things, seeing as we're not doing sport anymore." She said as she nodded towards the arcade.
Your eyes lit up at all the games in the entrance as you found your competitiveness returning. You both returned your shoes and practically ran over to the arcade area with all its choices. You decided to head towards the air hockey first as you argued over whether or not it was a sport. Carol, of course, took the opposition.
Your reflexes weren't as good as hers but you liked to think you put up a good fight, even if you did curse under your breath every time the blonde scored. The screen above you both lit up to declare Carol's victory that she was very happy to celebrate, you watched as she danced around the table towards you in what could have been the dorkiest thing you had ever seen.
"You having fun there?" You laughed.
"So much fun." Carol grinned back and eyed her next target.
"Absolutely not!" You cried out when her eyes landed on the basketball. You took her by the hand and tried your best to ignore the electricity running up your arms at how perfectly her hand fit in yours and led her through the arcade. You came to a halt by a racing game and before you could even suggest the idea to Carol she was clambering into the seat and shoving the coins into the machine. You sat down next to her and did the same. You were both terrible. The controls were slightly broken and far too sensitive, making the cars on screen spin around when you tried to turn and never going straight.
"Piece of garbage!" Carol shouted at the screen as you passed the finish line by some miracle.
"Wanna go again?" You asked with a grin but the blonde was already jumping off the seat.
"Now this I have to win." Carol declared as she spotted the nearest shooting game. It was some kind of zombies in space crossover but you didn't much question that when you picked up the plastic gun.
"We work together on this, Danvers." You laughed.
"Count yourself lucky then." Carol said as she aimed her gun at the screen as the game started.
"The fact that you didn't know how it works doesn't make me all that confident in you." You pointed out as you started firing at the horde of zombies. You didn't see one that was charging at you from the left but Carol shot it down before it reached you.
"You're welcome." She smirked then shot some more on your right. "Come on, y/n I'm doing all the work here."
"Fuck yourself, Danvers." You fired back as you tried to reload your gun.
"Fuck me yourself you coward." She challenged. Your mouth went dry but you started to laugh. She didn't make the comment with her usual smirk and suggestive tone, instead it seemed like a genuine joke that you didn't get anxious about.
"That would be a first." You quipped with a smile. You managed to take the last few zombies.
"It really would be, I am a virgin after all." She said casually and you dropped your gun. "Oh shit, here we go!" Carol laughed as the zombie boss made its dramatic entrance.
"Wait what?" You stammered as you looked between Carol and the screen while trying to get a grip on the plastic gun.
"What? No one's ever fucked me. I fuck girls, they don't fuck me back." She shrugged simply and started rapid firing at the boss.
"Maybe you should stop being exclusive to pillow princesses." You joked in a feeble attempt to mask your surprise.
"Maybe, it's not just that." She started. It confused you that she could say something so out of character while keeping most of her attention on the screen. "I don't trust any of them. I don't know, it's just, when it comes down to it, I freak out." Carol tried to explain but seemed to struggle.
"Damn." She sighed when the screen presented 'Game Over' in an overtly bloody text. You wandered away from the booth as you thought about what Carol said. She had a content smile on her face as she looked around and you figured the conversation was over.
"I love these." You told the blonde when you came across a Wac A Mole machine. You put the coins in and lifted up the rubber mallet as you kept your eyes on the board. The first one sprung up in front of you and Carol announced its presence with a cry.
"Thank you, Danvers." You smiled after hitting the figure.
"There!" She pointed to the next one, and the next one until you shouldered her out the way, not expecting her to actual wander off. When the game was over you grinned in triumph and looked to Carol for her praise but she wasn't near by. With a frown, you ventured around the arcade and found the jock hunched over a claw machine.
"These things eat you money, you know?" You half joked but to your surprise Carol dropped a small teddy bear into the box.
"And how long did that take you?" You teased as she picked it up.
"Its for you." You ran your thumb over the left paw that had a heart over it and smiled back at the jock who kept surprising you.
"Thank you, Carol." She nodded and the pair of you started to walk out the arcade and main building. Much to your surprise it was starting to get dark and there were few cars in the car park. You guessed the place would be closing soon but you hadn't realized you had been there so long. Time always seemed to fly by with Carol.
"How long were we even..." You started to laugh lightly until you turned to Carol and realized how close together you were. Your breath hitched when your eyes locked with her own that seemed to be looking back at you with something you couldn't quite pinpoint.
"Can I kiss you?" You whispered gently. You licked your lips and nodded slowly.
Her other hand rested on your cheek as her thumb caressed the smooth skin slightly and finally closed the distance entirely.
You had kissed Carol before, but never like that. It was slow and longing and gentle and you reciprocated in an instant, matching the rhythm she set. You brought you hands up to Carol's neck and cherished the moment of feeling connected to her in the way you had been craving before you pulled apart.
"It's only our second date, Danvers." You couldn't help but quip, not knowing what to say in such an unfamiliar scenario.
"Well this second date has taken a lot of work to get." Carol pointed out and you laughed as you continued to hold her close.
"I was scared." You admitted.
"You don't have to be scared with me." Carol assured gently.
"You mean it? You really..."
"I really love you." She confirmed.
"That's lucky for me, because I love you too." You smiled and brought Carol in for another kiss that she happily encouraged.
"So... more dates?" Carol asked with a laugh, clearly not all that familiar with the procedure either. You would work it out quickly.
"Yeah Carol." You chuckled.
"That I still have to work hard for?" She half joked.
"Not if we're girlfriends." The blonde laughed more at that.
"I'm glad to hear I've upgraded from just your favourite jock.
"You're always going to be my favourite jock too." You assured and kissed Carol once more.
*
Carol kissed a path down your stomach and smiled against your skin as she felt you shiver. Even after weeks of dating you still weren't used to her kisses, especially not across your more sensitive areas of skin.
"I got you." She whispered as she hooked her fingers over your pajama bottoms and panties and pulled them down together, kissing the newly found skin. You shivered more as her breath ghosted over your clit making you whine and buck your hips up. Carol smiled at your reaction and leaned down not before whispering "God, you're beautiful.
She wrapped her full lips around your clit and reveled in the moan that spilled from your lips. Her tongue dipped between your folds and she moaned at the sweet taste that invaded her taste buds.
You wrapped your hands in Carol's long blonde hair to bring her closer but she pulled away with a smirk. Before you could whine in protest she pulled her own trousers down to reveal a strap you hadn't seen before. It was different in shape and colour but the most noticeable different was the absence of the harness. You moaned softly at the realization it was anchored inside her.
"I want to feel it with you." Carol said as she lowered herself back towards you and placed her hands either side of your head and kissed your neck.
"Are you sure?" You asked tentatively. It would be the first time Carol had been on the receiving end to such a level. The most you had done was go down on her a few times.
"Yes, I trust you. I love you." She grinned and lined the strap up with your entrance.
"I love you too." You had really started to enjoy saying that to her.
You moaned breathlessly as Carol inched the strap into you carefully and kissed along your jaw more. She moaned with you when she bottomed out and felt the strap dig deeper into her. Her hips twitched as she took a moment to gather her own composure and held your hands above your head, your fingers intertwined.
"I got you." You assured back to her as she started to pull out and push back in. Carol moaned loudly in response and held you closer to her as she started to build up a rhythm, your thigh slapping together.
You moaned in sync as the strap pleasured you both more and more. You wrapped your legs tightly around your girlfriend's waist to push the strap deeper inside you both.
You shuddered every time Carol's skin met yours. Carol started thrusting the toy faster and harder as she chased her own release.
"It's so good!" You cried out. You both struggled to form words, only managing breathless moans as the strap pressed firmly against your g-spots in sync.
"Me too, fuck, please Carol. Cum with me." You pleaded and gave a strangled moan. Carol shuddered and moaned louder than you had ever heard as she came undone at the same time as you.
"Y/n." Your girlfriend shuddered and started to grind her hips against yours as she rode out her high with you.
"It's okay, I got you." You said as you held onto Carol's bare back. You held her close to you as she breathed heavily against your neck, the irregular patterns starting to even out. She was still shaking so you planted soft kissed across the patches of her face that weren't hidden in your neck as you stroked her hair, a content smile on your lips.
She adjusted herself slightly and the pair of you moaned softly when she eased the toy out and put it on the floor. "I'll clean it later." She whispered, eyes closed, before you could say anything.
"Okay." You chuckled and brought her closer to you. You wrapped your arms around one another as your legs tangled together under the sheets.
Carol's soft breath caressed your skin as you stroked her hair out of her face and kissed her forehead. A faint smile played across her lips at the action, confirming that she was just as happy as you were.

Warnings: fluff, excessive drinking, mentions of throwing up, kissing, nothing explicit, Draco being a softie (lmk if this needs more warnings)
Masterlist | Part One
Your eyes fluttered open to find Draco Malfoy sitting on a chair next to you, breathing quietly like sleep was finally hitting him. Ruffled blond strands of hair fell over his weary eyes and he’d used his suit jacket as a makeshift blanket.
Your first instinct was to silently lift up your covers and check if your clothes were still intact and thank Merlin they were.
“Have a little faith Y/n.” Draco grumbled, startling you in the process as he struggled to lift himself into a more comfortable position. “I would never take advantage of a drunk girl.”
Fragments of the previous night came back to you when you heard him say that.
The party, the burn of the booze, the dust-filled broom closet, the throwing up, the taste of soup and the strong and sturdy arms of the boy now looking at you with a sheepish grin on his face.
You eased at the sight of his smile. There came a certain type of comfort after someone had seen you throwing your guts up.
“Thank you for last night Draco.”
“Like I said before Miss raging alcoholic, Don’t make a habit of it.” He let out a small yawn and started to smooth out his hair but much to his dismay, the strands refused to cooperate.
You couldn't help but laugh at the displeased look on his face. “Here, let me—”
“NO. I absolutely refuse to let you touch my hair.” He protested, grabbing both your wrists before your fingers could make contact with his precious hair.
“Come on Malfoy.” You pleaded, now fully out of bed and trying to break free from his hands. “I swear I can fix it for you.”
“Nope.” He said firmly as he tried his hardest to maintain a straight face. “Stop it—No please not the sides—no..”
“Please, just a bit more...ah okay….there we go.”
“Haven’t you done enough Hufflepuff?!”
“Oh. that rhymed.” You laughed, still touching his hair when the two of you accidently tumbled onto the chair he was originally sleeping on.
Draco was agile in cushioning your fall with one of his hands balancing himself on the armrest and one hand wrapped around your waist.
It was only the second time he’d saved you from falling and you were already getting used to it.
Something inside of you was immediately hoping that Draco would be there to break your fall for a third time too.
It felt good with him.
It felt safe with him.
~~~
Alone at the school courtyard in the afternoon of the next day, Draco sat down in a far corner to rearrange his cluttered thoughts about you into tidy little compartments in his brain.
It should have been easy for him. He was a natural occlumens after all.
But for some bizarre reason, he couldn't find a way to erase your name, the sound of your voice and your scent that was slowly dominating all four lobes of his brain and all four chambers of his heart.
Even with the sun still in the sky, the occasional gust of wind made his hands turn cold so he instinctively shoved his hands into his blazer pocket to warm up.
It was only then that he realised that he’d completely forgotten to give your locket back to you.
~~~
A few days had now passed and Draco had gotten several opportunities to give your necklace back to you.
First it was at the great hall.
He watched you intently from the Slytherin table, waiting for the perfect opportunity to talk to you while you nibbled on a cupcake.
His Adam's apple bobbed as he watched you lick the powdery pink frosting off your Peony lips.
He wasn’t all that fond of those cupcakes you were eating but he’d have done anything for a taste of the frosting from your lips.
Before he could even manage to walk over to you, you stood up and walked away with your friends.
When you were close to the exit however, you paused and turned towards the Slytherin table to give him a tiny smile.
He quickly reached into his pocket to look at the locket, it was the exact pink shade of the frosting.
~~~
The second time he tried to return it was at Potions class.
Theo had so graciously agreed to switch partners with Draco and Snape did not seem to mind as long as the potions were brewed right.
“Crush the petals as best you can before dropping them into the cauldron.” Snape instructed and you quickly grabbed a fistfull of rose petals.
Draco watched in awe as you crushed rose petals in your hands, releasing the floral aroma into the atmosphere. The scent caught onto clothes and a flush crept onto his face.
“Well, are you going to help me, Malfoy?”
Draco silently copied your motion and stirred the cauldron till the potion was simmering and ready.
Returning your locket in the middle of Severus’s class did not seem like a smart idea so he decided to come up with a better one.
“We are having another party in the dungeons on Friday. You should come and bring Abott if you’d like.” Draco shrugged it off like it was the most casual thing ever.
“Will there be elf made wine?” You wiggled your eyebrows at him and he let out a rather loud scoff earning the attention of the sulky potion’s master.
“Malfoy, Y/l/n.” Snape called out, looking as unimpressed as ever. “Detention.Saturday.”
“Incorrigible.” Draco muttered and you nudged him in the rib with your elbow.
“Two Saturdays.” Snape said, before dismissing the entire class.
On his way out, Draco discreetly sneaked a peak of the necklace in his pocket because he already knew what colour it was going to be.
It was the exact same pink of the rose petals you were crushing.
~~~
Two days had gone by since potions class and Draco was no longer fazed when the necklace emulated the same shades of pink from the bubblegum you were blowing or the fuschia ribbon in your hair.
Draco also didn’t think it was necessary to make another attempt to return your necklace until Friday.
He already had a lot of things preoccupying his mind like actually planning the party.
There had been no Slytherin Party planned for Friday before Draco invited you and now, He was getting his friends to help him arrange one.
Crabbe and Goyle were tasked with getting more liquor, Blaise and Theo were responsible for music and food while Draco was responsible with the overall logistics like silencing charms and getting the word of the party out.
“All this for a girl.” Blaise mocked. Theo took this moment to whisper something to Crabbe who then whispered something to Goyle.
“Care to say it out loud, Nott?” Draco seethed as he watched his friends clutch their stomachs and laugh out loud.
“Theo called you a simp.” A teary eyed Goyle spluttered.
“A what now?”
~~~
Friday’s party topped the previous one.
More people, A wider selection of liquor, wine varietals, good food and music blasting so loud that the floors were vibrating.
As per usual, Hannah had already disappeared into some dark little corner with her paramour leaving you all alone with a group of Slytherin girls.
“I love your dress!” Exclaimed a tipsy looking Daphne Greengrass who herself was wearing a gorgeous turquoise number.
“Thank you.” You replied, giving her your most polite and friendly smile.
“Come now, let's go and dance already.” Pansy crossed her arms and rolled her eyes at the interaction. Although it wasn’t super obvious, you sensed that Pansy wasn’t too pleased to have you there.
Daphne intertwined her hands to yours and pulled you into the dancefloor with herself, Pansy Tracey Davis and Millicent Bulstrode.
Daphne’s surprisingly amiable nature took you by surprise but you decided to go with it. It was a party after all.
When she placed her hands on your shoulders, you mirrored. When she swayed her hips, so did you.
“He can't stop staring at you now, can he?” Daphne shouted into your ear over the music as you both continued to dance together.
“I’m sorry who?” You shouted back.
“Malfoy.” Daphne giggled. “ He’s been watching you all night actually. Why do you think he hosted this party in the first place?”
You stole a quick glance at Draco when no one was looking. He was sipping on a glass of whisky and watching you from a distance.
He had ditched his all black attire for a white button down shirt. The top two buttons were undone and his hair had a sort of laid back look to it
“See?” Daphne shouted again. “Hasn’t even taken his eyes off you once. It's driving Pansy nuts.”
Just to confirm if Daphne was in fact telling the truth, you tilted your head to the side to get a bitter view of him and the minute you did, your eyes met with his.
Heat spread all across your cheeks and he raised his glass to you as an acknowledgement before quickly turning away.
After that, it was just an intense and tactical little gambit of who caught who staring.
He covertly watched you sway your hips and you secretly noticed the way he tapped his fingertips on the glass he was holding.
Both of you refused to relent to whatever game this was up until the point where he grabbed a bottle of fire whisky and started to walk away.
You didn't even need to think twice about where he was headed.
“Go on.” Daphne nudged encouragingly.
~~~
Draco pulled the closet door open and stepped inside with a smile playing at his lips.
The last time he was there, he was introduced to you, your scent, your smile, your eyes.
Before that night in the closet, he took colours at their face value. They were nothing more than visual representations of light—what amount, what hue, what saturation.
It was strange how things had changed for him.
Not only did you make him see colours in a whole new light, you made him feel them, you made him hear them.
As Draco settled down with his drink, he saw the door creak open.
It was still dark but he could already tell that it was you by the scent of your perfume. Oh, he could never ever forget that aroma even if he tried.
Lumos.
Draco held his wand in front of him and allowed himself to turn to his side to get a better view of you.
Never had he ever seen someone glow the way you did under the lumos charm. The radiance in your eyes, the pearlescence of your skin and the curvature of your lips made him lightheaded.
“I feel like this closet is going to be a recurring thing for us huh?” You beamed at him and he found himself swooning.
Salazar Slytherin. Nott was right. He was a simp.
“I guess so.” Draco quickly answered, Blaming this dizziness on the lack of ventilation while taking a big sip of his drink.
“I don’t mind.” You said and twisted open the bottle of wine you’d brought with you.
“Don’t tell me you brought another bottle of that god awful wine in here.”
“It’s actually not that bad and it gets you drunk way quicker.” You shrugged.
“Why do I feel like I might have to walk you to your dorm again?”
He watched you take a long slow sip of wine and couldn’t help himself from noting that your lips were slowly getting stained red with the fruity nectar.
“Might?” You shook your head. “Sorry to break it to you, but this wine is going to catch up with me soon.”
Draco jokingly palmed his face, earning a laugh from you. It seemed like the perfect time to hand you your lost possession back.
“Atleast, I’ll know when you are going to be sick though.” Draco said as he fished for the locket in his pocket.
“How come?”
“Because of this.” He explained, holding the necklace out. “I’m sorry I should have given it back sooner.”
“That’s okay.” You murmured softly and pushed your hair away from your neck and he instantly took this as a cue to drape the necklace back to where it belonged.
“Ah…there you go.” He whispered into your ear before shifting back to look at the gem.
Draco expected it to be pink but to his astonishment, the gem had already turned a vibrant red.
A new colour.
He could see red in the apples of your cheeks.
He could feel red pumping through his veins and hear red in the way his heart was rapidly beating.
“It’s red.” You commented and he slowly nodded.
Even though he knew what red was for him, he needed to hear your interpretation before making his next move.
“What does red mean to you y/n?”
“To me, well…..red represents um..passion, something fiery, something that burns bright, leaves you breathless.” You whispered looking as if you were feeling almost as breathless as him.
Draco swallowed hard when he noticed just how close your face was to his.
“Y/n?”
“Hmm?”
“If I kissed you right now, would you kiss me back?”
He noticed that your breathing was progressively getting shorter. You looked startled at his sudden question but held his gaze nonetheless.
“I guess you’ll have to see for yourself, Draco.”
He couldn’t help but let out a hoarse chuckle before pressing his forehead to yours. “Is that an invitation hm?”
You didn’t say a word but the deepening red color of your necklace gave everything away.
Any remaining doubt in his mind went away when he felt you caress his cheeks with your cold hands.
He gently let his fingers slip into your hair as he closed the distance between your lips.
The kiss was reminiscent of the rush of first love. The innocence, the giggles.
The kiss paid homage that perfumed night in the broom closet that had started it all.
The kiss was bleeding, seeping, trickling In various shades of red and he was drinking every drop.
Draco Malfoy could finally tell what the colour red tasted like.
It tasted like your wine stained lips.
He backed away and placed a gentle kiss on the top of your head and you gave him a shy smile in return.
~~~
The two of you spent the remainder of the party inside the closet.
Drinking, talking, laughing and more kissing.
So much kissing.
“Alright y/n, let’s get you to your room now shall we?” Draco sighed when he noticed that you were getting more and more inebriated by the minute. “Come on.”
You struggled to step out of the closet and almost tripped on your own two drunken feet.
Almost.
“As if I’m going to let you fall face first.” He mumbled to himself before lifting you up in his arms.
You let out a small laugh before looking up at him.
“Draco?”
“Hmm?”
“I know you said to not make a habit of this but unfortunately for you, I already have.”
FIN.
Safe Haven
My face was pressed into the mud; I couldn’t even scream anymore. Three males held me down so I could barely move, but I was too tired from fighting so hard to struggle anyways. I was about to give up when the tip of a blade grazed my wing, and I remembered what I was fighting for. They were trying to clip my wings. I fought against the hold the males had on me to no avail. The fourth male brought his knife down, tearing it into my left wing. And not just once, not twice, but three long wounds. Then onto my right-wing. I tried holding back the tears, but it did me no good. I sobbed into the ground as not only my wings were taken from me, but the freedom and joy they stood for.
When the knife was pulled from my wing, I thought it was done, but the male picked up mud and smothered it in the open wounds. They burned, everything burned, and it was getting blurry. I was going to pass out, I realized. “No one is to touch her, no one is to clean her wounds, no one is to heal her,” the voice of the camp leader rang out behind me before he walked away, and I fell into unconsciousness.
I awoke a few times the next day, but when I did, it was to burning pain at my back and pitying eyes in all the females that walked by. I noticed I was no longer where I had been, pushed off to the edges of the camp, no longer in their way. So I turned my head away and looked at the forest to my left, falling asleep once more.
It was the next time that I woke, that I was not alone. I felt someone crouching to my right, and as I turned to look at him, another person crouched to my left. I whipped my head to the left to find Azriel. Staring at me with pain and grief behind his eyes. “It- it’s gonna be okay,” I heard from my right. Cassian. I turned to him to see the same look in his eyes and tears. He’s crying. “It’s gonna be okay. We’ll fix this,” he murmured, pushing my hair back from my face.
I turn my face away, looking toward Azriel, but he’s not there. That’s when I hear the shouting. I look back to Cassian and passed him to the camp. I can’t see the women and children. There are only men; they’re being pushed inside a blue-force field? Yes. All of the men are being rounded up and forced into a prison, and there is Azriel: collecting them and pushing them all inside. I look back to Cassian and notice beneath the sorrow in his eyes is anger. He combs a hand soothingly through my hair, “We’ll take you to Madja. She can heal you,” he says, voice cracking. That’s when I notice the bandages on my back and the fact that I am not in as much pain as before. Whatever infection was settling in has been slowed by magic.
He continues soothing me until Azriel calls, “Cassian, they’re all here.”
“I’ll be right back,” he places a kiss atop my head and stands, walking toward Azriel. I watch in a haze as my males, my lovers, question all the men. Anywho are young, innocent, or remorseful are released. There aren't many.
They decipher who the males at the core of hurting me were. The camp leader and the ones that held me down. They were pulled aside one by one, and I had to close my eyes while Cassian and Azriel took turns hurting them. Through it all, I listen to them fighting, to their yells, and their pleas.
“We didn’t know she was your lover,” some of them screamed.
In the end, I’d turned my head away from the scene. I am no stranger to blood and gore, and I would never be angry with Cassian and Azriel for what they are doing, but I do not revel in watching those males dying. The camp leader is the last of them to die. He spits out cruel and disgusting words at all three of us, and I try not to listen. I’m not sure which of them does it, but his words are suddenly cut off as his head is cut from his neck.
Cassian returns to me first. He pulls the make-shift bandages from my wings, inspecting the wounds beneath, “Az, we need to get her to Madja. We couldn't have cleaned the wounds well enough, and she’s still losing blood,” he said over his shoulder. Seconds later, I felt a hand on my shoulder, and we were spinning through space.
The room we landed in was clean. The floors and walls were pristine white and blue, and everything looked very orderly. Nothing was out of place or messy. A few people were in the large room, and their attention was immediately drawn to us as Azriel winnowed us in. Whatever place this was, it had many doors leading out of it and many healers- I realize as several of the males and females come to inspect my wings. Faintly I hear Azriel speaking to an older female. She must have ordered me moved because soon, Cassian is carrying me through one of those many doors and into a room with nothing more than a bed and a couple of chairs in it.
Then, I must have fallen asleep again because I woke up hours later, remembering very little after being brought to this healing den. I’m lying flat on my stomach, facing Cassian asleep in a chair to my left. Slowly I blink my eyes awake and turn my head. Azriel is seated on my other side with his head in his hands. When I try to speak, only a quiet groan escapes my throat. Azriel sits up suddenly and before he can mask it I make note of the guilt and pain behind his eyes. Cassian also jolts up behind me and moves to Azriel’s side of the bed. He’s far less skilled at hiding his emotions; they’re always written all over his face.
I want to speak, but the words won’t come. As if knowing my question, though, Azriel says, “she couldn’t save them,” Cassian turns his face down, away from me, and Azriel avoids my eyes too, as he continues, “She tried. Several healers did, but they couldn’t save your wings. The infection was too great. You’re lucky to be alive.”
A choked sob leaves me as everything crashes in. My wings have been clipped. I’ll never fly again. I turn my face into my pillow, dry sobbing into it, while Cassian sits on the edge of the bed. I feel his hand hover over my back, but he pulls back, deciding not to touch me.
I feel like I can’t breathe as I heave into the pillow and wish the entire world would just disappear. I know Cassian is saying something, but I don’t hear his words. Azriel hasn’t said anything else, but I can feel his eyes on me and the guilt in them.
After some time, I fall asleep again.
*
Before I even open my eyes, I know it's not a nightmare as I had hoped. My wings ache with burning pain. “You’re due to take another tonic for the pain soon. I can go get it,” Azriel says from behind me. He must have sensed my pain. When I open my eyes to look at him, he is not who I see. Slouched forward in a chair, head lying on the bed, is Cassian. One of his hands is brushing against mine, and I move it closer, wanting more contact. I look slightly behind me at Azriel and tell him with my eyes that I would like that.
He’s gone for only a moment before he returns. I barely had the chance to blink, and he was already back. Walking over to my left side, where Cassian sleeps, Azriel helps pour the bitter liquid down my throat and gets water to ease that too.
My hand rests on top of Cassians; I briefly look before returning to Azriel. “He must be exhausted to not have woken up yet,” I say.
Azriel looks down at him and puts his hand to Cassian's head, gently running his fingers through the dark curls, “He wouldn’t sleep. Drank so much coffee he couldn’t even dose off; he didn’t want to. Eventually, I knocked him out.”
I raise my eyebrows in shock, but Azriel just smirks slightly looking back to me, “I didn’t hit him or anything. I asked Rhys to go into his mind and put him to sleep for a while,” the moment ends then, the smile leaving his face, “I didn’t want him getting hurt too.”
He blames himself. I know he does. He always does, though I wish he wouldn’t, “It wasn’t your fault, Az,” I murmur, closing my eyes. I can feel him staring at my wings, which have already started to ease as the tonic sets in.
“If we had come to see you sooner, this wouldn’t have happened. Madja said there was nothing we could have done about the infection, even soon after they did it, but if I had been there a day earlier, then we could have stopped it from happening at all,” the words rush out of him angrily at first. He sounds like he’s speaking more to himself than me. Then his voice cracks on the last few words, and I open my eyes to see tears welling up in his eyes.
I look at him for a moment longer and say, “come lay with me,” a confused look crosses his face, “this wasn’t your fault Azriel, now please come hold me.” He didn’t miss a beat. Crossing to the other side of the bed, he laid down on the edge, gently maneuvering himself to only touch me where there was no chance of making contact with my wings.
His right arm slithered under my head, resting his hand on the other side of my body. My right hand felt numb beneath my body, but I pulled it up to brush it with his. He grabbed my hand in his, and so I fell asleep, knowing I held both of my males close to me.
*
My dream started as a memory. It was the first time I had met my males; crouching next to the creak outside of camp, I sharpened a rusty old knife with a rock. I had been wishing I had a good knife, but that would be too risky to steal, and any protection was better than none. I didn’t hear the figure to my left, and when a branch snapped behind me, I knew I only heard it because that male wanted me to.
Dropping the knife, I quickly stood, turning to greet the male. It had been Cassian. Jokingly he said, “You couldn't hurt a fly with that knife. You really need a lesson in weaponry, don’t you?”
I shouldn't have gotten angry, but I did anyway, “I know about weapons,” I snapped, “but not all of us are privileged enough to have pretty little knives like you,” That's when I became aware of the figure to the side. He laughed deeply, and I was sure he must be laughing at me. I would be punished severely for this.
My attention snapped back to the first male as he spoke, “I didn’t mean to offend you,” he said, “but you really shouldn’t use that dagger. I’ll get you a better one.”
“Here. She can have this one,” the other male spoke, pulling out a dagger. It is plain and silver with a simple, twisted image of shadows carved onto the surface, leading to the black hilt, “I’ve had it for ages but never really use it,” He detached a sheath from his belt and slipped the dagger in before handing it to me. I looked into his eyes a moment longer before turning away, blushing.
“What do you need a weapon for anyways?” Cassian asked.
I shrug slightly, “protection.”
“From?”
“Everyone,” I say, tucking the dagger under my skirts. I probably should keep it closer being alone with two males, but for whatever reason, I did not feel threatened by them. The memory faded away as another appeared. Only days after I had first met the two Illyrians, the high lord’s most trusted friends, and advisers, they appeared in my camp again. Not for business with the Camp leader, however. I felt them stalking me as I walked through the wood, when I was carefully distanced from the camp, they showed themselves- Cassian with a grin spreading across his face, and Azriel with a carefully blank expression, but curious eyes nonetheless. That was when things began. When I started falling in love with them.
These meetings continued for months. We met inside a small cave just outside the camp. It was glamoured now from anyone's eyes but ours. My little safe haven. It had been where I was running when I realized they intended to clip my wings. I wasn’t fast enough, though.
Now the dreams were turning, twisting into something more terrifying. Darkness rushed toward me as I fell into the next scene. I tried screaming and fighting as hands grabbed me in the dark, but I just kept falling. My whole body burned, and a shiver ran down my spine as I was thrown into the waking world.
*
The warm heat of a body pressed at my right ran through me as I blinked my eyes open. It was Azriel, I realized now. He brushed his fingers gently down my spine, soothing me, “It was just a bad dream,” he murmured against my hair, pressing a kiss to my head.
On my other side, I felt Cassian squeeze my hand. He was awake now, holding my hand tightly as he laid his head closer to mine. Feeling them beside me was already enough to relieve my aches and ease my mind. “Do you wanna talk about it?” Cassian whispered between us, just loud enough for Azriel to hear. I shook my head in answer, closing my eyes tightly in an attempt to fall back asleep.
I couldn’t, though. So I just lay there with my males on either side of me, trying to pretend we were still in that little cave, and nothing had gone wrong. I still had my wings.
*
Days have passed now. Most of them were filled with me laying in bed with one or both of my males holding me. Other times though, they involved tears streaming down my face and screams tearing out of my throat. Cassian and Azriel were always there, rocking me through it and reminding me of what I still had, though it felt like I’d lost everything.
Occasionally I’d wake to arguing. I heard the high lord scolding Azriel and Cassian about their actions after the first day, but he didn’t sound seriously angry. Mostly I heard the whispered arguments between Azriel and Cassian about me. My treatment, my pain, how best to help me. I hated that they were arguing. It happened less and less as I recovered, but I still hated it.
Neither male was here now though, it was a rare occurrence. I had told both males the other was staying with me and told him he should go eat. I needed the alone time, but I knew it wouldn’t last long. Rather than stay in bed, I stood on numb legs and hobbled over to the bath. It has been too long since I’ve bathed. How Cassian and Azriel managed to be near me without wanting to vomit at the stench was beyond me.
Kneeling on the ground, I held my hand under the water as it rushed out. When the water was ready and smelling of lavender, I submerged myself to the waist. Slowly I let my wings touch the water as I lowered myself further. When I was finally in the water entirely, I relaxed and leaned my head back before slipping down lower to wet my hair.
When I was still under the water, finally relaxed, I breathed out slowly. Everything was peaceful until a pair of large hands gripped my upper arms and pulled me from the water. My eyes shot open, and I fought the male until I noticed it was Azriel, “Stop!” I yelled at him, “What on earth are you doing?” I shouted. I shot a glance to Cassian, standing in the doorway. He looked upset, and Az was definitely angry.
“What are you doing?” he replied with a growl. I tried pulling my arms away from him. He loosened his grip, but only enough to no longer hurt. I still couldn’t get away.
“I was bathing,” I glared at him, “I didn’t realize that wasn’t allowed.”
“Bullshit,” he said
“Az…” Cassian spoke.
“You’re not allowed to kill yourself! I won’t let you,” Azriel shouted.
What, I thought, “I wasn’t trying to kill myself,” I say calmly, looking straight into his eyes, “I just wanted a bath.” Suddenly a wave of guilt hit me because I’d made them think that. Azriel must have believed me because he released my arms and took a step back.
I pulled my arms up to cross my chest and looked away from them. Cassian pulled Azriel out of the bathroom, but neither of them closed the door. I returned to the bath but was no longer relaxed. I decided to quickly clean up and return to bed. The room was nearly silent except for the short whispered argument between the males. When I stepped into the room to dress, they both studiously looked away from me and one another. I dressed quickly and laid in bed, falling asleep before either of them could try and talk to me.
After weeks had passed, I was sitting and walking again. Most of the pain had gone, now only phantom pains and sore scars remained. I was barely able to move my wings, and Madja said with some physical therapy, I would regain much of the movement but never enough to fly again.
Cassian sat with me now, massaging my back. Things had gotten better. I’ve tried imagining life without my wings, and as long as I remember that I’ll always have my batboys, things aren't so bad. “Do you wanna go for a fly,” Cassian whispered.
“I can’t,” I said, tears welling up as I imagined I could.
Cassian pulled me up, “come on,” he said, pulling me by the wrist. He walked us up to the roof and stood behind me. Pulling my hips to him, he said, “stand on my feet.” I looked at him confused, “just do it.” So I did. I stood on his feet, and he wrapped his arms under mine and across my chest. “Try to keep your legs straight against mine,” he whispered against my ear, “if you need to hook your ankles around mine, do that.” Then we were taking off into the air, flying straight up. It wasn’t the same as flying myself, but it was relaxing nonetheless. We flew straight for the house of wind and hovered there for a moment. I was going to ask why we weren’t moving, but then Azriel walked out onto the balcony and shot toward us.
We spent hours in the sky. We even developed signals so Cassian would fly however I wanted. Glide left or right. Sharp turns. Down, up, backflip, frontflip. I felt like a kid again as I tumbled through the sky with the two most important people in my life.
When finally we were too exhausted to continue, we landed at a restaurant in the city. Azriel went in first, apparently having made reservations. As I followed-Cassian's hand in mine-we were led across the room between tables until we reached a curtained wall in the back. The males both grinned at me as our host pulled back the curtain, revealing a beautiful candle-lit scene. A beautiful private area just for us.
The evening was perfect. We ate dinner and laughed and just enjoyed each other. The room reminded me of our cave: chilly, small, and with colorful pillows and blankets littering the floor. It didn’t take long after finishing our meals for the three of us to end up in the mess of fabric. I have no idea how long we laid there. They just held me whispering beautiful things into my ears and an occasional obscenity from Cassian. They always knew what I needed.
My back was pressed to Cassian as he carefully wrapped his arms around me, avoiding my wings. I’m almost positive he’s asleep, and even in sleep, his grip is like iron. I couldn’t possibly move. Azriel, in front of me, combed the hair out of my face. “You’re gonna be okay, ya know,” he whispered, pressing a kiss to my forehead, “I know it doesn’t always feel like it, and you wanna give up sometimes, but you can’t. Please don’t ever leave us. We’re gonna be okay,” a tear slid down his cheek as he whispered these words to me.
“I promise,” I whispered back, pressing my forehead to his, “I promise.”
*
The next day I was released from the healers’ den, but it didn’t matter; Cassian and Azriel still never left my side. I didn’t mind, though. As soon as we left, they dragged me down endless streets of houses. I had no idea where we were going until I saw the large manor seated beside the Sidra, to our right. It must be the high lord and lady's house. We didn’t turn to it, though. Instead, I was led left, that’s when I noticed the smaller house, seated directly across from the manor. It was smaller, but not small. Beautiful ivy ran across the brick it was built of. It was supposed to look old but was certainly brand new. A short white fence ran along the yard. Cassian opened a little gate motioning for me to continue up the path. Inside, the house was stunning and appeared brand new. A curved staircase wrapped around behind us, and a chandelier hung from the high ceiling.
“What is this,” I asked quietly, not wanting my voice to echo.
“A house,” Cassian answered simply, “how about a tour?”
“Whose house?” I asked.
“Ours, of course,” Azriel replied. “We figured the house of wind was out of the question since you wouldn’t very easily be able to get in and out. And the beds in the River house are just big enough for two Illyrians. Not three.”
“So we bought this place. For the three of us,” Cassian finished, biting his lip nervously.
“You bought me a house,” I asked incredulously.
“Us. We bought us a house,” Cassian replied.
This would take some getting used to. Them doting on me all the time; always near. It wouldn’t be difficult, I imagined.
“You can decorate it however you’d like,” Azriel spoke.
“Even if I want to paint all the walls pink and hang orange curtains from all the windows,” I smirked. He cringed slightly, and Cassian laughed, holding out his hand, offering the tour again.
“She said it's her first time.” He pauses, looking up at his friends' concerned faces. “I think she might’ve lied.”
“I’m sorry, what?”
Jungkook groans, cradling his head before banging it on the table. The utensils on the table rattle and clang, bringing unwanted attention to his mini breakdown. Taehyung is quick to place his hand under Jungkook's forehead just as he goes in for another blow. “Ok, Jungkook- Jungkook!” Jimin giggles beside him. “Fucking stop, people are staring.”
Jungkook pauses and subtly peeks out of his long bangs, checking to see that Taehyung’s words were indeed true. He breathes out and sits up in his chair, fixing his shirt to play off that he wasn’t just having a mental meltdown.
Jimin rolls his eyes, “soooo are you gonna talk now, cause’ I have a horrible headache and you’re really not helping.”
Jungkook nods opening his mouth to speak. “Alright so uh, I met a girl last night and-”
“I thought you went home?” Taehyung shoves Jimin’s shoulder and Jungkook glares, “yeah, well that clearly didn’t happen.” He rubs his temples, “could you do me a favour and let me speak first, and then you can ask the questions. Ok?”
The two boys nod, settling into their seats as Jungkook delves back into his story.
“Alright so anyways, I saw this girl and like, I haven’t ever seen her before? She was literally perfect”. He exhales looking at nothing at particular as he continues. “Gorgeous face, prettiest lips and oh! speaking of her lips, God the way she sucked-”
Despite what Jungkook said earlier, Taehyung feels the need to intervene. “Ok as much as I love a good suck myself, I need you to stop here, we don’t need the graphics.” Jimin nods in agreement even though it’s clear he’s not paying an ounce of attention. Jungkook smirks at the memory, but it soon drops as he remembers one tiny detail. He places his hands on the table, total seriousness etched onto his face. “But here’s the kicker, she said it was her first time.”
Confusion.
“So did you or did you not take her virginity?”Jungkook crosses his arms. “No, after that she just up and left.” “Wait, fuck”, Jungkook suddenly realises, “I didn’t even make her cum”, he groans and Taehyung bursts into laughter. This finally garners Jimin’s attention, his dazed eyes squinting. “Who’s the girl?” Jungkook sighs, “if you were listening before you would’ve heard me say that I don’t know her.” Jimin leans forward,“well can you at least describe her? I pretty much know everyone who attended the party”
Jungkook doesn’t have to think that hard. “She was wearing this plaid skirt and like a white top-” Jimin’s eyes widen, “Holy shit, Y/N?! Man, Jin’s gonna kill you.” This makes Jungkook pause, thoughts running back to the text he had received from Jin. “Wait, they’re not a thing are they?” Jimin chokes, “God no, they’ve been family friends since like forever, Jin’s practically her protective older brother.”
That explained his text earlier. Jungkook furrows his brows, more questions beginning to arise and spill out of his mouth. “How come I’ve never met her and if she’s a virgin, then how- how did-”, Taehyung cuts in, “dude she’s done other things before.” More confusion. “And how would you know that?” Taehyung smirks, shrugging as he gets up out of his chair. “I'm gonna get a drink, Jimin, you want anything?” God, his head is spinning. “Sure, you know my usual.”
It was the way Taehyung spoke too casually, like your lifestyle choices were common knowledge. How the fuck hasn’t he met you, yet his friends seem to be well acquainted with your existence? “What the fuck was that look?” He focuses on Taehyung from where he orders his drinks. “Did you see it Jimin? Kinda sus.”
Jimin remains nonchalant, blowing a strand of hair out of his sight before answering one of Jungkook’s urgent queries. “Jin never introduced you to her because well…” He looks Jungkook up and down with an unimpressed look. “You would get your grimy hands on her immediately. And Then after that, It’s like she never existed ” Jungkook opens his mouth, rebuttal on the tip of his tongue. “Don’t argue with me boy, the second you met her, you already wanted her on your dick, did you not?”
Jungkook is shocked to say the least, jaw hanging open as Taehyung makes his way back to the table, drinks in hand. “Oh God, what did you tell him?” Jungkook slams his fist on the table, yet again grabbing the attention of people around them. “That is not true! I have standards, and what about you two. You guys are just as bad.” He points accusingly at the bruises peeking out of Taehyung’s loose shirt, “Look at Tae! Those hickies are probably a combination of the three girls he fucked last week!”
Jimin doesn’t want to get kicked out of the cafe, so he attempts to calm down a soon to be raging Jungkook. “Look, to put it nicely, you’re a heartbreaker, you lead girls on whereas Tae and I actually tell people we’re not interested in anything more than a hookup.”
Jungkook seems to understand where he’s coming from. He can admit, he does have quite the reputation if the amount of times he’s been slapped in the face says anything. But now, with this newfound information, he can also admit that you’ve certainly intrigued him, that was for sure.
Jungkook wants to see you again.
Not for a rump in the sheets, but rather a friendly conversation.
It was just his luck that he had heard through the grapevine that you had been invited to one of Jin’s small pool party get togethers. If Jungkook was being honest, he’s quite excited to be within your vicinity again but he knows he needs to keep his cool. Especially after the series of death threats and slaps on the neck from Jin. He shudders at the memory.
And so, Jungkook prepares himself more than he usually does. He wants to do it right this time. No flirty teasing, just friendly innocent conversation. He makes sure to carefully pick out the right swim shorts that display the thickness of his thighs. Not for any sexual gain, more so to show off the hours spent at the gym in hopes that maybe he can get you to become more interested in him as he is to you. He sounds desperate, and he’s sure you’re not that materialistic, but he has this nagging want to impress you somehow. He huffs and does a few pushups, for extra measure of course.
He’s not sure as to why his brain decided to make him act this way. You’re more or less a stranger to him. However, when Jungkook begins his short journey to Jin’s house he really lets himself think, which usually isn't a good idea.
Jungkook doesn’t know you, but you’ve definitely left an imprint in his mind which makes you all the more fascinating. It’s news to him that you seem to be very close to his small circle of friends which is probably thanks to your deeply rooted friendship with Jin. That new piece of information had been bugging him since the day he met up with Taehyung and Jimin. Surely his reputation couldn’t be the only reason why you’ve never met him. Right?
Parking his car in Jin’s enormous driveway, he makes his way up to the grand front door. Sometimes he wishes he could live a life like Jin. He grew up being fed with a silver spoon his whole life. Having everything paid for instead of rolling in the miseries of college student debt.
Once Jungkook makes his way into the large house, he sets down the drinks he had brought onto the kitchen counter and watches his best friends goof around and enjoy the summer sun with a warm grin. He chuckles quietly when Jin pushes Jimin and his perfectly styled hair into the pool. Jimin screams a slur of curses while Jin quickly runs beside a sleeping Yoongi for protection.
Slipping out of his loose oversized shirt, Jungkook scans the entirety of Jin’s backyard, looking for the face that has been haunting him since that fateful night. She’s not here. He reexamines the pool seeing nothing but the chaotic mess of his favourite people, and he sighs. Just as he prepares to step out into the blazing sun, the sound of his stomach growling stops him in his tracks.
Thinking about you made him nervous. So nervous that his stomach couldn’t bear the thought of breakfast. However, after the realisation that you hadn’t arrived just yet, makes him do a full one eighty, long strides taking him to Jin’s expensive fridge.
His head is already deep into the fridge when he hears the sound of the sliding door opening, revealing a dripping Jin with a small scowl on his face. It seems Jimin finally got his revenge. “I’m starving you got any leftovers?” Jungkook queries, his head popping out from the cool air of the fridge.
Jin grabs a fresh towel and whacks it against Jungkook’s naked back. “What’s the point of even asking when you’re already going through my damn fridge!” Jungkook flashes Jin an innocent grin and glows when he discovers a small bowl of Chinese takeout.
It very quickly dawns on Jungkook that in order to enjoy a nice warm meal, he would need to heat it up. His stomach all but roars, not used to the lack of food in its system and Jungkook wants to cry. He wants to cry and it's not from the angry hunger pains, but rather something extremely laughable. He has to use a fucking microwave.
You’re running late, there’s sweat running down your brow and you feel like your arms will fall off any second. The weight of snacks and alcohol you had brought making you stagger as you finally enter Jin’s enormous home.
The one and only thing that’s on your mind is the refreshing feeling of slipping into Jin’s pool while sipping on an iced beverage. This motivates you enough to put all the strength left in your exhausted being to speedily walk into the kitchen and throw everything onto the counter.
“AHH FUCK!” You flinch at the sudden scream, hugging your body protectively. Jungkook slowly pops out from behind the other side of the counter, his doe eyes big and wide. “You fucking scared me Jesus!” He exclaims, running a hand through sweaty bangs.
The air had escaped your lungs long before you could utter your next sentence as the sight before you has you freezing. There he was, Jeon Jungkook in all his glory. Tanned skin and taut muscle sculpted by the Gods. You didn’t mean to stare, but how could you not! Your eyes had a mind of their own. He’s glorious, every single part of him, and you’re not even afraid to admit it. Your eyes are quick to eat him up, tracing the art staining the whole of his right arm and you wonder what every swirl of ink means to him.
Jungkook coughs awkwardly, going in to scratch at his neck. You imagined he would tease you about your obvious ogling, but it never came. Strange. “Why were you hiding?” You ask, dropping your gaze from his body in order to arrange the snacks into neat piles, using it as an excuse to slowly step closer to him. “Oh! Uh-”, he scratches his head, looking down at his feet before jumping five feet into the air, a startled gasp leaving his lips when the timer of the microwave goes off.
You burst into laughter and Jungkook flushes in embarrassment. Jin had told you about Jungkook’s embarrassing fear of microwaves but you never thought you would see it first hand. You hold in the laughs that tickle your throat and try to settle him down by lightly touching his shoulder. He flinches at your touch.
“Are you okay?” You’re really close to him now. Your chest is practically pressed up against his and Jungkook gulps. How was it possible that you could look even more stunning than the last time he saw you? Your cheeks are glowing from the soft golden rays of the afternoon sun and the way you look up at him, your soft smile curling makes his head spin.
“Yeah, I’m good”, he breaks eye contact in embarrassment. “Sorry, just uh, microwaves are scary you know?” You giggle up at him. Is this really Jungkook? The Jungkook you’ve seen flaunting a new girl every week just to abruptly break her heart when he can’t promise anything more than sex?
You’re not complaining, he’s quite adorable like this.
You’re not too sure why his personality has the sudden switch up. It could possibly be the fact that he’s with his closest friends and doesn’t feel the need to put up his playboy persona. Although, the way he blushes when he looks at you plays a different story. Do you make him nervous? Surely not, if the memories of that heated night are anything to go by.
“So uh, are you gonna head into the pool?” His empty stomach is long forgotten as he gestures to the large backyard, you nod up at him excitedly. It’s then Jin decides to bust back into the kitchen, a stern gaze set on his face. “Y/N, can I speak with you for a minute?” Jungkook cautiously takes a step away from you, your bodies no longer close to each other and you notice this with a small frown.
“Yeah, sure”, you relent walking over to Jin who places a protective arm around your shoulders. Unknowingly to you, Jin traps Jungkook down with a hard stare and signals Jungkook to go outside, to which he accepts with a nod.
“I know what you’re gonna say, and no I do not see him like that”, you cross your arms defensively. Jin sighs, “I just don’t wanna see you get hurt again.” He places his hands on your shoulders, full lecture mode on. “Let’s face it, you’re a hopeless romantic, I can’t trust that you won’t do something stupid, but you and Jungkook… You’re both important friends of mine and-”
You’ve heard his overprotective brotherly speech plenty of times, “I know, and I’m so thankful that you’re looking out for me. I just don’t see the harm in befriending him, you’ve never let me speak to him before.” Jin releases his hold on your shoulders to fix the mess of his wet hair, “and there's a reason for that.”
Why was he so damn hard-headed. Jin loves Jungkook like he loves his family. It just didn't make any sense to you that Jin could approve of their friendship but when it comes to you, he completely shields you away from any interactions with the so called playboy.
“When are you going to stop protecting me from boys?” Jin senses your frustration immediately. “I may be younger than you, but I’m also an adult just like you. An adult that can make her own choices.” You exhale slowly, “You’ve let me befriend your whole group and they’ve been nothing but wonderful to me, I don’t see the wrong in getting to know Jungkook.”
Jin lets his guard down. You do have a point, maybe he was being a little too overprotective. He gives you a soft smile, you look away.
“You’re right, I am in no position to dictate your decisions and who you choose to hang around with, it was wrong of me to treat you like that. Jin looks out into the pool, watching Jungkook tackle Taehyung. “I’m sorry I was a bit too harsh, Jungkook’s a good kid, he just got into the wrong crowd at first. Although, you gotta promise to tell me if he hurts you, cause he knows I’ll beat his ass.”
You laugh accepting his apology, “are you sure about that? He’s a literal muscle pig.” You both begin to make your way outside and Jin shoves you slightly, “hey! You know I’m right.” Jin shakes his head and brings you into a comforting hug. “Yeah, yeah whatever.” He rolls his eyes, you beam up at him and together you walk out into the warm sunlight.
It hadn’t even been a second since you stepped outside, and already Yoongi’s long term girlfriend, Jieun is squealing your way. “Y/N! I’m so happy you're finally here, the amount of testosterone out here was starting to make me feel faint.” You giggle at her exasperated tone, pulling her into a tight hug.
Nonchalantly you peel off your flowy sundress, it’s stickiness from your sweat making you cringe. “I missed you last week, why didn’t you come to class?” Jiuen pouts, “I'm sorry bub, I somehow caught a cold, but I trust you have some notes for me.”
The way Jieun flutters her lashes at you innocently forces a roll from your eyes. Slathering sunscreen onto your arms, you reprimand her, “I swear you’re only using me for my notes, you literally never listen in class! Can you get my back please?”
She hums while you turn around, her small hands kneading sunscreen from your shoulder bones to the small dip in your back. Jieun continues to blabber on about the joys of life, not even checking if you’re listening to a single word she says. Instead your eyes are zeroed in on a certain someone.
Your staring is blatantly obvious but you don’t care. It’s only when Taehyung spots your burning gaze with a small smirk does he signal Jungkook to turn around to meet your flirty grin.
Holy shit
The sun does a real great job of highlighting the gorgeous curves of your body adorned in quite possibly the smallest baby blue bikini he’s seen on a woman. Your breasts practically spill out of the tiny triangle cups and the pretty colour compliments your skin beautifully.
Whilst Jungkook can admit you have one of the hottest bodies he’s seen in a while, his eyes surprisingly don't linger on your delicious curves for too long. Instead, he finds himself utterly enamoured by the way your eyes crinkle slightly when you smile prettily at him, your cheeks glowing with it.
It suddenly dawns on him that you are the first girl that has truly enchanted him, and no, your ridiculously gorgeous body had little to do with it.
Jungkook does not mind this change one bit.
So, instead of staring at you like a gaping goldfish, he matches your flirtatious body language with a boyish grin and a small wave. His previous nerves dissipating only to be replaced by confidence and polished charm. He doesn’t want to scare you off with his sudden look of epiphany just yet, but the new unfamiliar feeling you give him is surely doing exactly that.
“My, my, Yoongi wasn’t lying.” Jieun stifles a giggle when she notices how Jungkook’s attention has steered towards you and only you. You’re quick to turn around, brows furrowed. “What are you on about?”
“Oh you know… You and Jungkook”
You grimace, tired of the repeated topic of conversation. “Just because I sucked his dick once does not mean we're a thing”
“Oh really? He’s asked me an awful lot of questions about you I was beginning to think otherwise”
“Wait, really?”
Jieun has the widest cheshire grin plastered on her face, it's starting to look quite unsettling.
“Really.”
You’re thoroughly shocked to say the least. You thought your fast, fleeting blowjob, sort of, was nothing special. A usual escapade to get his daily fill. Ordinary. Unmemorable.
However, it seems to be quite the opposite.
Jieun grabs your hand and swings it back and forth, exactly like a mother would do, although she’s merely two years older than you. “I know Jin’s been up your ass about Jungkook and frankly I don’t blame him he’s still a little shit from time to time but, he’s actually quite fun to be around and honestly I think his playboy tendencies seemed to dial down a bit since he met us.” The two of you giggle quietly amongst each other, quick feet making your way closer to the pool to avoid the scorching pavement.
Your toes are the first to dip into the pool and you practically moan at the cold water melting away the blistering haze that sticks onto your skin. The water is icy at your waist and you love it. “So my advice would be not to worry about him, instead it's his little army of plastic bimbos that you should watch out for.”
“Ahh, internalised misogyny. We love to see it.”
Jieun acknowledges you with a hum as the two of you float around the calming abyss. She then swims closer to you, nodding her head into the direction of a lonely Jungkook, who lazily stares at your alluring form. “I think your loverboy over there wants to talk to you.”
Jieun swims away before you can protest, leaving you to face the handsome man before you. His eyes are round and docile, yet his stare is tantalising, it pulls you in as if he’s slowly reeling you in with a rope.
The water delicately ripples around your body when you approach him and you internally sigh in awe at the striking features of his stunning face. You want to use this opportunity to finally get to know him, and perhaps form a new friendship.
You take note of the lack of Jin’s hawk-like eyes or for better the lack of any eyes on the two of you. You’re alone, huddled into one of the far corners of the pool, your conversation private, just for two pairs of ears.
You open your mouth to speak, “So-”
“I-”
An uncomfortable silence stills the air and you both halt your words to giggle quietly amongst yourselves. God, this is awkward.
“You go first”, You offer, tucking a wet strand of hair behind your ear. Jungkook follows the subtle movement of your fingers before taking a deep breath.
“I feel like we should discuss the elephant in the room”
You're stunned. “Huh?”
“You know… That Friday night?”
Of course you knew what he was referring too, yet you wondered why as you honestly didn’t think that night had much impact on the man.
With a raised brow you ask, “What about it?”
“I’ve just had a lot of... thoughts”
You scratch your head feeling puzzled. You’re sure Jungkook has had better blowjobs in his lifetime. Hell, Jungkook did most of the work that night. “Do you usually discuss the past hookups you have, or am I just lucky today?”
You’re teasing him, nevertheless Jungkook tilts his head back towards the sky. All he wants is clarification, only this conversation is heading down an awkward path, so he decides to spit out what’s been bothering him for the past few days.
“Okay listen, I know this is odd to say, but ever since that night, It’s like I can’t get you out of my head.”
Your ego inflates at his statement and you smirk. You knew you could suck dick well, but according to Jungkook you seem to have quite the talent.
You smile proudly, “damn, look at me go, I can’t believe I have the campus playboy wrapped around my finger.”
Jungkook scoffs, both in annoyance and embarrassment because shit, he could have worded that differently, now he sounds like the clingy girls he fucks.
“Yeah, yeah let’s not pretend like I was the only one enjoying myself here. Weren’t you the one practically begging to be touched?”
You’re amused. “Weren’t you the one who couldn’t make me cum. Yet came from their own handjob?”
Jungkook tongues his cheek and looks away. The way you speak so casually intimidates him. No girl has ever spoken to him this way, in fact, Jungkook’s the one who usually likes to tease. He can slowly feel the creeping heat alighting his cheeks and God does he hope you don’t notice.
You patiently wait for Jungkook’s reply, a sly grin adorned on your pretty face. However, Jungkook doesn’t say anything, rather he frowns and immaturely splashes water at your face.
“Jungkook!” You sputter, wiping at your face to rid of the chlorine in your eyes. “What the fuck was that for?”
He shrugs, “sorry my hand must’ve slipped”
You don’t take that for an answer, your petty nature crawling out as you splash him back harder than he had done. “Hand slipped, my ass.”
You cross your arms smugly, a small laugh blossoming out of your mouth when Jungkook cutely rubs at his eyes.
It’s after a minute when you realise Jungkook hasn’t stopped furiously rubbing his eyes. The circular motions of his hand move so intensely that it begins to look painful and irritating. “Fuck, it stings”, he exclaims in agony.
Shit, you inwardly curse, gently touching his wrist, concern lacing your features because you didn’t think getting chlorinated water in one's eye would sting that much. You analyse his facial expressions closely and you wince at the redness surrounding his eyes from his harsh rubbing.
On the contrary, Jungkook knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s competitive and won’t back down from a fight, even if it’s just fun banter, so he continues his little scheme just for the fun of it and hides his small grin under his large hands.
You’re now slightly panicked, “fuck, Jungkook I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hit the water that hard I-”
Jungkook cracks.
Ever so slowly, he peeps his eyes out at you and watches with a mischievous smirk as your face morphs from alarmed to annoyed in less than a millisecond.
You tighten your grip on his wrist and attempt to slap his hard chest with your free hand, however Jungkook’s reflexes are fast and he grasps your hand tightly, a teasing glint in his eye.
“You little shit-”
All of a sudden a loud holler is heard from the front door, rousing a relaxed Jin out of his chair as he sprints while simultaneously yelling at the ruckus being made. It’s then a stampede of both familiar and unfamiliar faces come crashing in. Some jump straight into the pool to cool off from the blazing sun while others rush to the table of assorted alcohol, desperate to get an ounce of it in their system.
Word seemed to go around about Jin’s supposed small get-together unbelievably fast, causing the once tranquil Kim Seokjin into a raging volcano.
You’re pressed right up against Jungkook’s solid chest and he surprisingly pays you no mind, even though your perky tits are deliciously pushed up perfectly against his body. Jungkook’s eyes are not settled on them, rather he pays close attention to the amount of people dangerously plunging into the pool at a fast rate.
Jungkook protectively hugs your shoulders to shield you from the rowdy party goers who definitely do not understand the definition of personal space. Your heart swells when he then delicately places your head in the crook of his neck and wraps an arm around your fairly exposed body, essentially guarding you from frantic wet limbs and ignorant individuals.
You feel comfortable and safe, so comfortable that you wouldn’t mind staying like this for a while if it weren’t for the throng of college students delving into the cooling water.
Jin’s house begins to fill with unexpected guests very quickly and you wonder how Jin is handling the situation. You suppose not very well when you see him whipping people with towels, red ears making an appearance and his booming voice following him.
Jungkook wants to get out and he’s sure you feel the same way which is why he smoothly slots his hand into your own, long fingers wrapping around your hand to carefully pull you through the growing crowd of people in the pool.
Whilst pushing past a variety of college students you are met with many stares, even worse, numerous envious eyes and whispers of possible gossip. You try your best to avoid their gazes, the hard stares reminding you of the last time Jungkook held your hand to push through groups of people.
Water drips down the curves of your body and lands in little pools around you when you step out of the pool. At this point you’ve garnered even more turning heads that examine every inch of your skin closely. Their stares itch your skin and you feel akin to an animal kept in a zoo enclosure, curious eyes breaking down your confidence, you want to hide.
You usually like to pride yourself on your confidence because you know you’re hot and you know your worth. It had taken many failed relationships to build up your self love and nourish the scars and memories of questioning if you’re good enough.
You fight on and squeeze Jungkook’s hand, mostly for some sort of reassurance. It shocks you when he astonishingly squeezes back and softly rubs his thumb over the back of your hand. It’s almost as if he knows how you’re feeling.
You glance up at him shyly. Jungkook keeps his eyes straight ahead. He smiles a different kind of smile than the one he had directed to you a few hours ago. His lips are in a permanent smug smirk. His usual playboy smile. He flashes it at everyone as if he’s asking for their approval and even goes in to high-five a few people who are unrecognisable to you. You soon realise that this is what Jungkook thrives on. People, validation and his notorious reputation he’s created for himself.
Jungkook lights up at the presence of crowds, flirty smiles and people calling his name, whereas you want to crawl into your skin and run away because from the perspective of outsiders it looks like you’re just another one of Jungkook’s flings that will soon be forgotten by next week.
Well, you hope you won’t turn out to be one of them.
At last you find yourself away from the heart of the party, your dress in hand but your body still wet nonetheless. Jungkook is in the same state as yourself, droplets of water dribbling from his dark hair and onto the timber flooring. He leans into your ear, “I’ll go get us some towels, stay here.”
He’s gone before you can reply, making small conversation when he passes by various people, his boisterous laugh echoing down the halls.
You’re alone now, and defenceless at that. There’s not many people you know here, besides the few odd people you share a class with and some sleazy frat boys that hold a similar reputation to Jungkook. You want to find Jieun so you can hug her or maybe ask her if she can take you home, but she is nowhere to be found.
Fuck, You remember leaving your bag on the kitchen table, unsupervised with many personal belongings stowed away inside. Using your dress to cover the most of your exposed skin like a blanket, you stride over to the kitchen and sigh in relief when you find your bag untouched and in perfect condition.
Snatching up your bag, you grab your phone and immediately text Jieun to find out where the fuck she’s hiding, but there’s a part of you that knows she’s probably fucking Yoongi somewhere. Traitor.
Jungkook finds you to be in a completely different part of the house than where he asked you, one towel wrapped around his neck and the other draped over his arm. You haven’t noticed him yet, your frantic fingers texting a treacherous Jieun, “princess, didn’t I tell you to stay put?”
You’re startled. Switching your phone off you stick your arm out, waiting for Jungkook to pass you the towel but he doesn't. Jungkook gently pushes your shoulders so that you turn away from him and carefully wraps the towel around your body like a cape. You hold the edges of the fabric to help him hug the towel around yourself, keeping it tighter to your body.
Your voice is quiet, “thank you.”
Jungkook leans down to meet your face, “What was that?”
Even though Jungkook had been in the pool longer than you, his cologne still sticks to his skin and you kind of want to breathe more of it in, but that would be weird.
“Oh, I said thank you.”
You’re close to him again, although this time he towers over you with a look almost identical to a predator meeting its prey.
Jungkook’s eyes flirt around your face and descend. He shamelessly drinks up the swell of your breasts and whatever skin is visible amidst the fluffy towel around you. It’s strange. You had noticed Jungkook doing the exact same thing when you were alone with him. The difference though was that his looks were cursory as if he didn’t want to make you uncomfortable. Now, It's like a new persona had taken over him and he was ready to pounce at any sign of a green light.
He’s stuck in a trance, fuckboy tinted glasses fogging his vision.
You force out a giggle and playfully shove his shoulder, “my eyes are up here, you know.”
His reply comes lighting fast, he’s definitely been in this position before. “I know, just admiring them.”
Jungkook wants to hit himself the second his reply spewed out of his mouth. He desperately wants to reassure your unimpressed (though also very cute) face, because goddammit he wanted to be respectful. Jungkook knows he has a tendency to slip into a new personality when the right amount of people hyped him. Call it being two faced, he knows it's one of his fatal flaws.
“I'm sorry.”
He says it genuinely.
Jungkook only just got to properly meet you, he doesn’t want to give you the wrong impression! He can admit, your first ever official meeting (moreso hookup) wasn’t ideal, yet the way Jin dragged him through the mud undoubtedly made him understand that you weren’t the type of woman that should ever undergo the treatment he puts his hookups through. Scratch that, any woman shouldn’t be treated the way Jungkook treats them.
You're now fully covered under the towel, not a sliver of skin on display. You don’t know if his apology was genuine. “It’s ok I guess, I expected nothing less from you anyways.”
“Right.” He’s messed up.
You clear your throat, “I’m gonna go get changed, maybe look for Jieun unless-”
Jungkook finishes your sentence, “-she’s fucking Yoongi.”
You exhale, “yeah.”
“Jeon Jungkook!”
The voice makes you halt at its familiar tone. Jungkook doesn’t notice your growing panic as he too freezes in his spot.
No, it can’t be.
The world plays in slow motion when he walks into your line of vision. His assertive stride, smug smile and sharp eyes.
Jeong Suho.
His name explodes inside of you like a blistering fire yet your heart feels ice cold. He is the very man you have spent weeks trying to avoid and even more trying to get out of your head.
The world plays at a normal speed when he approaches Jungkook. Their facial expressions are the same, the way they greet each other is the same. They’re practically the same breed of fuckboy, born from the same mother.
“Been awhile since I’ve seen you around.”
Jeong Suho was a person that Jungkook didn’t really mind, In fact there was a point in Jungkook’s life where he would’ve considered Suho to be one of his closest friends. They were two peas in a pod freshmen year of college. Never giving a fuck about their education and always present for any opportunity to get completely wasted with as many girls they could possibly seduce. Nowadays, Jungkook would rather keep his distance from him.
On the contrary, you were one of the many girls that had fallen deeply for Suho’s alluring charm. You fell so hard, you thought that maybe just maybe there was a possibility that you could secure a future with him. Obviously that was not the case.
You thank your lucky stars that Jungkook was there to distract Suho while you make your haste escape. All you need to do now is somehow locate an unoccupied bathroom, preferably without having to walk in on someone getting it on, and then you could get the hell out of there.
You must admit, you look quite ridiculous right now. Navy blue towel wrapped tightly around your body, your small head peeking through. You could probably pass as some form of E.T cosplay right now. You don’t care if you look rude, pushing and shoving whoever stands in your way. You only have one goal and you’re so so close to succeeding-
“Wait, Y/N! Is that you?”
Fuck.
Do you run? Maybe duck behind some poor innocent student looking for a good time? You huff, you're already sticking out like a sore thumb, there’s no use in trying to hide when the enemy has already spotted you. Even worse Jungkook motions you over with a wide gleaming smile. If only he knew how much you’re dreading this interaction.
Grudgingly, you walk over, looking like an irritated gremlin with your towel still firmly secured around you. Jungkook makes matters worse by pushing the towel off your head, releasing your scruffy ball of hair. You grimace.
“I didn’t know you knew Y/N?”
Suho sends a smirk your way. You however, glower.
“Yeah we go way back, don’t we baby?”
You force a tight lipped smile, howbeit you look as if you have a mild case of constipation.
“Sure.” It comes out rough through gritted teeth.
Suho notes your frustration, a sly grin carving onto his punchable face. He turns towards Jungkook, seemingly blocking you from their conversation, yet you know Suho wants you to hear what he has to say.
“You know it’s a shame. Y/N’s gorgeous, ten outta ten body, knows how to put it to good use, however she never let me fuck her. Don’t you think that’s weird?”
Jungkook stays silent for a minute, eyeing your shaking fists and angry eyebrows. Jungkook may be dumb, but he sure knows how to read a room, thus leading him to the conclusion that your relationship with Suho isn’t something you’re very fond of and that he should probably get you out of here.
“Uhhh no, that’s not weird at all actually. What I think is weird is the fact that you think you have this sick claim on every girl you’ve defiled and even worse, you’ve always had this strange need to chase after every virgin you see like some perverted cherry picker. Yeah, that’s weird.”
Suho laughs right in his face, spit grossly tickling his skin. “That’s rich coming from you Jeon, weren't you quite the cherry picker in your freshman days, no?”
Jungkook doesn’t know what he expected from this conversation. It definitely wasn’t this.
It's obvious that Jungkook isn’t a saint, he really fucking far from it. Although, one thing's for sure, it’s his absolute hatred for the way his brain was wired in his freshman year of college. Yes, Jungkook still remains as one of the standing campus fuckboys but he’s gained a few more brain cells since then.
Jungkook opens his mouth to retort, only to be met with Suho’s back as he turns his attention towards you.
“Y/N, darling if I were you i’d make a run for it, ya know keep your chastity intact or whatever.” His smile is saccharine sweet, though his words are sickly sour.
The months of pent up anger stored within your being bubbles and overflows like a bad science experiment. You’ve quickly decided that now’s that time to expose the shitty excuse of a man, and quite frankly you don’t care that you have an audience. Actually, an audience would make this all the better.
Your finger is strong, pointing accusingly at his broad chest. “You know what you stupid motherfucker? Don’t waltz in here with that dumb smile of yours when you know you have some disgusting cheesy infection growing down there.”
Suho’s eyes widen slightly. It was no secret he was a walking STD, just about infecting every girl that was naive enough to sit on his dick.
Everyone at the party has definitely stopped to listen to what you have to say. You even spot Jin from the corner of your eye sending you a proud smile. “And while we're on the topic of cheese, Learn how to wash your fucking dick!”
You don’t let him have a moment to speak, grabbing Jungkook’s hand and pulling him out of the house.
A few people applaud, some girls praise you on your way out. You give them no mind, you’ve had enough for tonight.
Jungkook starts his car, no questions asked. It’s obvious to him that there’s bad blood between you and Suho. What you don’t know is that Jungkook can also relate.
Technically there was no bad blood between them, moreso the hurtful memories and manipulation Suho put him through. To put it simply, Suho was probably the worst influence Jungkook could ever have as a vunerable freshman.
The crunch of gravel and soft melodies that spill out of Jungkook’s radio converse with eachother and fill the defeaning silence that sits between you and Jungkook.
Jungkook doesn’t even know where he’s going, he just drives.
Every so often he checks up on you from the corner of his eye. Your knees stick tightly together and point away from him. Your fingers curl and uncurl, leaving cresent moons in your skin. And to finish it off, your face remains still, hostility completely washing over your features. If Jungkook didn’t know any better he would think you’d jump out of his car and make a run for it at the chance of him stopping the car.
It’s seven sniffles later when Jungkook decides he knows where he should take you.
The night sky is clear and the stars burn brightly to accompany the full round moon. It’s the perfect setting for release and maybe a screaming session if you’re up for it.
Jungkook makes a stop behind a forest of tall trees and a dirt path. You sit up immediately.
“Where are we?” Your eyes are rimmed with tears, “I want to go home.”
Jungkook shuts the engine off, “you never told me where you live.”
“Well you never asked!”
Maybe you shouldn’t have yelled because from the looks of it, Jungkook just wants to help you out and clearly you’re not being the friendliest right now.
You curl back into yourself, “sorry”, another sniffle.
Jungkook brings your fists into his hands and warmly opens them up. You refuse to look at him, it doesn’t deter Jungkook one bit.
Tenderly he brings a finger under your chin, gradually bringing your eyes up to his. Jungkook takes his time with you, careful to not set you off until you’re face to face with his warm eyes.
“I brought you here because it’s apparent we both need let out some pent up steam.” He drags his fingers delicately across the curve of your chin and back into his lap. His touch is fleeting, you miss it already. “I just thought you may want to vent or just shout out into the void, it’s up to you.” You nod, fully trusting Jungkook’s intentions. “And at any time you feel like going home just say the word and I’ll take you there, okay?”
Your heart swells in adoration at his caring nature, though you can’t help but wonder how he can have such a sudden change in personality depending on where he is and who he’s with. It’s unnerving.
Jungkook clicks his seatbelt off and heads out the car, “put your dress back on princess, I’ll be out here waiting for you.” You mutter your confirmation and do as he asks.
The cool summer air kisses your skin and runs through your hair as you step out of the car. Jungkook is already by your side dressed in an oversize hoodie with another in his hand as well as a fuzzy blanket.
Jungkook steps closer to you, holding the hem of his hoodie to slip over your body. Without a second thought you raise your hands causing Jungkook to chuckle at how cute you look dwarfed in his clothes.
The same cologne you smelled on his skin earlier lingers on every fibre of fabric around you. His scent is everywhere, swirling around your head, instantly calming down your anxieties. You smile at him, “Lead the way Jungkook.”
Jungkook leads you up a small hill and you notice the trees opening up to display a lush field of grass. However, the sight before you leaves you in absolute wonder. You stand completely still and take it all in.
The night sky is dark but the city below illuminates is beautifully. Your gaze bounces over all the buildings, skyscrapers and their dazzling bright lights. It’s peaceful up here, you decide as you take a glimpse of the hundreds of tall structures looking so tiny, so ant-like.
Jungkook is settled behind you, his legs comfortably folded underneath himself. He remembers what it was like the first time he saw the view, which is why he doesn’t blame your stunned silence and glazed eyes.
“How did you find this place?”
You find your way towards Jungkook and plant yourself right beside him. “I don’t know, I was just driving aimlessly one night and found it, It’s nice right.”
You hum, “it’s beautiful.”
Jungkook murmurs in agreement as you lie down on the woolly blanket beneath you. The stars twinkle and glimmer amongst the deep blue sky, creating a serene experience. You shut your eyes.
“I hate him.”
Jungkook looks down at you, you don’t see him though. “Suho?”
“Yeah”, you exhale deeply, “I can’t believe I had to see him again.”
Although Jungkook knows you can’t see him, he swivels his body around to face you properly. “Did you guys date or something?”
You scoff, “pffft you know Suho doesn’t date anyone.” You open your eyes, meeting a pair of round docile ones. You continue, “Suho was the first guy who every gave me an ounce of attention. Before him guys never looked my way. Jungkook remains silent, letting you pour out what’s on your mind.
“Suho had me fooled, I thought I was special to him, thought he saw something in me that was different from the others. Turns out that was his game after all”
You speak so animatedly, your hands wave around in the air, your eyebrows scrunch when the memories come back to you. “It’s stupid really, how I used to gush to him about finding the one person in the universe that was created just for me. I guess he used this as my weak point.”
Inhale, exhale.
“He made me believe he was that special person for me, used it as an excuse to pressure me into sex.” A tear rolls down the side of your face, falling perfectly in a straight line. “I almost gave in, but something just felt so wrong. Every time I said no he would call me terrible names, tell me that no one would want me if I never gave them what they wanted. And I believed him.”
Another tear escapes your wet orbs, Jungkook is there to wipe it this time.
“I broke it off after I found out he fucked my roommate and gave her some disease.” You chuckle, “I guess I’m lucky I never let him fuck me huh?”
Jungkook’s heart breaks at your saddened eyes and the way Suho treated you, he sweeps a stray hair out of you face. “I think you dodged a bullet there princess, what he did to you was pure evil, no one, and especially you don’t deserve that”
You sit up, wiping remaining tears and thanking him as you go, “It’s your turn now.” You pat his thigh, “tell me why Suho got you so riled up tonight.”
Jungkook shuffles in his spot, “It’s actually kind of similar to you.”
You gasp sarcastically, “no way he pressured you into sex too?”
He laughs, eyes squeezing shut, “No, no, nothing like that.”
You lean closer to Jungkook, giving him the same attention he had given you. “My father left when my mother found out she was pregnant with me, so growing up I had no male figure present in my life. My mother stopped at nothing to give me that to the point that almost every week I’d wake up and see a new man drinking out of my favourite mug. I didn’t mind it because I was only a child and some part of me always hoped they would stay, but they never did.”
“My mom was a hopeless romantic. She held so much sentimental and idealistic views on love that it stuck to me. She always told me that there was someone special out there just for me.” You smile at the similar belief, Jungkook sighs.
“Cut to college, Suho was the first friend I made. I had no experience with girls whatsoever, and I still held on to my mother’s faith. Whenever I talked to Suho about it he would always shut me down or make fun of me.”
“He told me that all my feelings are bullshit, and that I only felt that way because I’ve never hooked up with anyone before. Next thing I knew we were going to parties every week getting absolutely shitfaced and fucking every girl I laid eyes on.”
You nod, listening intently. “And tonight, he hit a nerve. What he said made me realise that I’m just as bad as him. He moulded me into this person and now I have a reputation.”
Jungkook’s eyes drop, “he broke my concept of love before I even got to experience it.”
You never knew Jungkook was in a place like this. You always thought he was like Suho, built to break hearts and show no emotion when it came to love. Jungkook was nothing like that. His heart was truly big, desperately longing for someone.
Placing your hand on top of his own you comfort him as best as you can, “oh, Jungkook, trust me when I tell you this, the love in your heart is not broken. Think about it, most people you’ve met have been through college right?” He nods, “there are so many other people out there that you’ve never met, soon you’ll be able to find that someone and learn how to love. I know you present yourself as this emotionless playboy, but once you let that part of you go it’ll feel so freeing.”
Jungkook stares deeply into your eyes, he’s so thankful that he decided to bring you here, he can’t contain his happiness.
“Can I like, hug you?” Jungkook asks shyly. You smile, and it’s so big and bright Jungkook might as well be staring at the sun. Before he knows it, you’re tackling him into the most wholesome hug he’s ever had. You’re warm and you smell like vanilla, It feels like home.
“Get up”, he says abruptly, extending his arm to pull up your confused self.
“What-”, Jungkook cuts you off, “have you ever just let yourself scream?”
Jungkook has intertwined your hands together, and your heart pounds at the realisation of how well they fit together. “Well, no but I assume that’s what we’re about to do right now.”
He pulls you closer to the edge of the small hill, the view of the city sparkles right in front of you. “On the count of three, one- two- three!”
You scream, you let it all out and God does it feel refreshing.
The two of you sound utterly insane, but none you give a single fuck. You scream until your lungs burn and your throat itches you to stop.
The volume of both of your voices ring out into the night sky only for the moon, stars and yourselves. The night is still young but Jungkook wouldn’t have it any other way.
With you he lets go of everything, all the past mistakes, all the hurt because at this moment he feels like he could fly, soar into the clouds.
He feels infinite.
Valentine’s Day Blues
Pairing: Tom Holland x Reader
Synopsis: In the midst of planning Valentine’s Day and his brothers party, Tom forgets your birthday
happy birthday to @bluelilly21 !! 🥳
Masterlist
The first time you met Tom, you were crashing his brothers birthday party. In your defense, it was Valentine’s Day, as well as your birthday, and you didn’t want to be alone. So when your best friend said she was going with her boyfriend to some party, you tagged along.
“Hey mate. Thanks for the party. We’re gonna be heading out soon.” Tuwaine shouted over the music of Harry and Sam’s birthday party.
“Thanks so much for coming.” Tom said as he pulled him into a hug. “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
“You too, mate. Wait one second.” Tuwaine turned around and found his girlfriend in the crowd. “I want you to meet my girlfriend”.
“Hi. I’m Yara.” A girl came from behind Tuwaine and put her hand out to shake Tom’s.
“And I’m bored.” You announced as you stumbled into Yara’s arms. “Can we go, please?”
“In a minute.” She laughed as she held you up. “I haven’t said goodbye to everyone yet.”
“But I did and if I stick around it’ll be awkward.” You whined in her ear, making Tom laugh. Yara gave Tom a look that told him this wasn’t her first time having to take care of you.
“I said my goodbyes already. I could stay with you until Yara is done.” Tom offered. You picked your head off of Yara’s shoulder and squinted at Tom, finally noticing that he was standing there.
“Yeah. Why don’t you stay with Tom?” Yara spoke in a motherly tone as she helped you stand up straight.
“But I don’t know him.” You whispered to her, just loud enough for Tom to hear. He understood you not wanting to be left alone with a stranger while drunk, so he didn’t take any offense to it.
“He’s Tuwaine’s best friend.” She assured you. “I wouldn’t leave you alone with someone I didn’t trust.”
“Okay.” You sighed before facing Tom. “But don’t try anything. I have a gun.”
“She doesn’t.” Yara whispered behind her hand. “Play nice.”
“Bite me.” You nipped at her, making her laugh.
“I will.” She smiled and pulled you into a hug. “Love you, girl.”
“Love you.” You mumbled before letting her go. She disappeared back into the crowd, leaving you alone with Tom. You were a little too drunk to remember your manners, so you just stared at him, unapologetically sizing him up.
“It’s nice to meet you. I’m Tom.” Tom reached out to shake your hand.
“Y/n.” You told him as you dapped him up. Tom laughed a little at your movement and checked you out.
“How come I haven’t seen you before?” He asked, taking a step closer so you could hear him over the music.
“Excuse me.” You put on a voice. “I am homeless. I am gay. I have AIDS. And I’m new in town.”
“Oh. I’m sorry to hear that.” Tom frowned. “Do you need a place to sleep tonight?”
“Dude, I’m joking.” You laughed in shock. “Haven’t you heard of John Mulaney?”
“No.” Tom shook his head. “Is he your friend?”
“He’s a comedian.” You said like it was obvious. “Don’t they have comedy in England?”
“Our teeth are pretty funny looking.” Tom shrugged, making you smile.
“Hm.” You looked him up and down. “Cute and funny.”
“So how much of what you just told me was true?” Tom asked as he took a sip of his drink.
“Nothing except for the fact that I’m new in town.” You seemed to sober up a little. “But Yara and I go way back.”
“Same with me and Tuwaine.”
“I know. He’s been talking you up to me for a year now.” You chuckled as you pulled a water bottle out of your bag.
“Has he?” Tom raised an eyebrow. “What did he say?”
“That what you lack in height you make up for in charm.” You insulted him flirtatiously.
“What’s the verdict?” Tom stepped closer again. “Was he right?”
“You’d really let me sleep at your place if I was homeless?” You questioned him and you decided whether you liked him or not.
“I would.”
“Well, then he was right.” You batted your eyelashes and wrapped an arm around his shoulder. “You’re definitely short.”
“Damn.” Tom shook his head as you pulled away laughing.
“I’m sorry.” You chuckled. “But you’re pretty charming as well.”
“Thank you. You’re not so bad yourself.” Tom flirted.
“Guess what?” You went up on your tip toes to whisper in his ear. “It’s my birthday today.”
“Is it really?” He asked. “It’s my brothers birthday too.”
“Isn’t this their party?” You realized, and Tom nodded. “I hope you don’t mind I tagged along with Yara. I just broke up with my boyfriend and I didn’t want to be alone.”
“I don’t mind at all.” Tom told you. “I’m sorry about your breakup. Now that I know you’re single, you know what it really makes me want to do?”
“What’s that?” You raised an eyebrow.
“Get you a cab and make sure you get home safe.” Tom smiled softly as you as he gave you a comforting squeeze on your arm.
“That would be lovely.” You said in appreciation. You took Tom by the hand and began to walk with him towards the exit. “I’m glad I met you Tom.”
“I’m glad I met you too, darling.”
You didn’t kiss him that night, though you wanted to. It took about a month of knowing each other for you to finally kiss him. But once you did, you were inseparable.
It was a full year since the party, meaning yours and the twins birthday had come around again. It was also Valentine’s Day, your very first one with Tom. You woke up before him and walked into the kitchen, smiling at the dozen roses he had set on the table. Next to the roses was a box of chocolates at your spot at the kitchen table, but no birthday card. You furrowed your eyebrows a little but didn’t have time to think about it when your phone rang. You answered it and thanked the person for the birthday wishes as Tom entered the room.
“Sorry.” You smiled as you put your phone down. “I had a phone call.”
“Good morning. Happy Valentine’s days.” Tom’s voice was husky with sleep as he pulled you into a long kiss.
“Happy Valentine’s Day to you too.” You smiled against his lips before kissing him again.
“I have to call my brothers before I forget.” Tom kissed your forehead before pulling away. “Then I’ll make you breakfast.”
“Yeah.” You narrowed your eyes at him to see if he was joking. “You wouldn’t want to forget a birthday.”
Tom didn’t take the hint as your phone began to ring again.
“Your phone is ringing again?” He raised his eyebrows. “Someone’s popular.”
“I guess I am.” You mumbled, realizing that he had indeed forgotten. You took your phone call and tried to give Tom the benefit of the doubt. It was his brothers birthday, after all. Maybe he was just waiting to say it to them first. You came back to the kitchen after the call just as Tom was putting pancakes on the table.
“There you are.” He grinned and made grabby hands at you. “I want to spend every second together until the party. It kinda sucks our first Valentine’s Day together is also my brothers birthday. I’d rather spend the day with you.”
“It’s okay.” You shrugged sadly. “Birthdays are important.”
“I know.” He ironically agreed. “Maybe we can leave early and have some alone time.”
“Sure baby.” You faked a smile. “Let’s just eat, okay?”
You didn’t want to fight with him, especially on Valentine’s Day, so you made peace and sat down with him to eat breakfast. You were hurt that he had forgotten your birthday, but he at least remembered Valentine’s Day. You decided that that was better than nothing and tried to push it from your mind.
Tom had a few last minute errands to run before his brothers party, which you were slightly relieved about. You didn’t really want to spend the day with him after he forgot your birthday. He kissed you goodbye multiple times, harping on how sorry he was to leave you on Valentine’s Day. You sighed deeply once he left, feeling tears threaten your eyes in his absence. Every time he mentioned the party or Valentine’s Day, you were reminded that he had forgotten about you.
Tom came home once you had already started getting ready. You had your dress on and were talking a phone call as he got dressed.
“Are you almost ready to go, love?” Tom asked as he buttoned his shirt.
“One minute.” You mouthed as you pointed to your phone. The conversation finished up quickly and you hung up.
“Did someone leak your phone number or something?” Tom wondered. “It’s been going off all day.”
“Oh, you know.” You shrugged, not wanting to start something. “It’s a special occasion.”
“Valentine’s day is not that special.” He laughed as he came behind you to look in the mirror. “But you look beautiful.”
“Thank you.” You smiled tightly as you put in your earrings. Tom went in to kiss you, but you moved so he’s only get your cheek. He clocked your strange behavior but shrugged it off as he grabbed his keys.
~
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY BITCH!” Yara screamed from across the room when she saw you at the party. She ran to you and threw her arms around you, squeezing you tightly. She kissed both your cheeks before placing a tiara on your head.
“There. So everyone knows you’re the birthday girl.” She smiled proudly as she fixed your hair.
“Thank you.” You grinned as you squeezed her hands. “I appreciate you.”
“Well it’s my best friends birthday. I had to do something.” She shrugged playfully. “What did Tom get you?”
“Tom forgot.” You blurted, trying to keep a straight face. “He hasn’t said anything yet.”
“What?” Yara’s face fell. “He threw his brothers this party but didn’t even wish you a happy birthday?”
“There’s a lot going on today.” You tried to defend him. “He wished me a happy Valentine’s Day. And he got me roses.”
“It’s your birthday.” She didn’t let up. “It is his girlfriends birthday. He should know that.”
“It’s okay.” You shrugged it off, but she could tell you were upset.
“It’s not.” She didn’t let up. “Where is he now?”
“Last time I saw him, he was with Tuwaine.” You told her. “I didn’t really want to be around him right now.”
“Good.” Yara nodded as she fixed your hair. “Leave him be until he figures it out.”
“Is that the birthday girl?” A familiar voice came from behind you, making you smile.
“Happy birthday, you two.” You greeted Sam and Harry as you handed them separate birthday cards.
“Happy birthday to you too, princess.” Harry teased as he flicked your tiara. They pulled you into a group hug that lingered while Sam rubbed your back.
“This is for you.” Sam handed you a card.
“And this is from us.” Harry winked as he handed you a small black box.
“Thanks guys.” You smiled in appreciation. “I put your gifts in the back room. Should I get them?”
“Don’t worry about it.” Sam waved his hand. “Open it.”
You opened the box and found a thin black brackets with a straight metal pendant. The pendant had dots and lines going across it, making you look at the twins in confusion.
“It says “Holland” is Morse code. We have them too.” Harry explained as he showed you his matching bracelet.
“It’s to show that you’re part of our family now.” Sam added. “So people know you’re our sister.”
“Thats…” ,you stared at the bracelet for a moment, feeling sentimental tears coming to your eyes, “that’s really sweet, guys. Thank you. That means a lot to me.”
You pulled them into another group hug before letting them get back to their party.
“They remembered.” Yara gave you a pointed look.
“I should probably get back to the party.” You changed the subject, not wanting to sit in self pity. “Thank you for the tiara. You’re the best best friend I could ask for.”
“You’re welcome.” Yara told you as she hugged you tightly. “Happy birthday. I’m sorry your boyfriend is dumb.”
You gave her a look before heading back to the main area of the party. The second you saw Tom, you felt a disappointment in your stomach. He was laughing and having a good time while you were upset. You wished you didn’t care as much as you did, but you were hurt. He had forgotten your birthday and didn’t seem to care.
“Hey. There you are.” Tom smiled when he spotted you, already tipsy as he tried to hug you. “Are you enjoying the party?”
“Yeah.” You said flatly and moved away from him. “I’m gonna go get a drink.”
Tom pouted briefly at your odd behavior as Yara and a friend of yours approached him.
“Where’s your girlfriend?” Your friend, KC, shouted over the music.
“She just left to get a drink.” Tom told her. “She’ll be back soon.”
“Good.” KC nodded. “I have to wish her happy birthday. I called her first thing this morning but I want to tell her in person.”
“It’s my brothers birthday, actually.” Tom corrected her. “They’re over by the pool table.”
“I know.” She laughed shortly. “But it’s Y/n’s birthday too.”
“She’s a Valentine’s baby.” Yara said sweetly while shooting daggers at Tom. “Isn’t that so cute?”
“What?” Tom jutted his head back. “It’s not her birthday. Her birthday is-“
“Today.” KC raised an eyebrow at Tom. “Did you not know?”
“I think he knew.” Yara stated with a hand on her hip. “He just forgot.”
“Oh no. I’m such an asshole.” Tom covered his mouth with his hand. “I can’t believe I forgot her birthday.”
“She couldn’t believe it either.” Yara shrugged. “You’re not gonna live this one down. This is exactly what happened last time.”
“Don’t say that.” KC said in a hushed tone, making Tom grow concerned.
“What do you mean?” Toms eyes darted between the two of them. “What happened last time?”
“Her ex did this last year and she was totally devastated.” KC told him. “He texted her “happy v day” and did nothing all day. They didn’t last a day after that.”
“Really? That’s why they broke up?” Tom began to panic. He knew about the ex, but you had never told him why you broke up.
“Yeah. She felt ignored.” Yara said unsympathetically towards Tom. “She was crying at my apartment until I brought her to your brothers party. That’s when you met, dummy.”
“Oh no.” Tom whined and looked around for you. “Do you think she’ll forgive me?”
“I’m not so sure.” KC shook her head.
“Why do you say that?” Tom panicked at her confidence.
“Because I’m pretty sure she just left.” KC said as she pointed behind Tom. Tom wiped around right as you walked out the door. Harry and Sam were standing near by, still waving to you as you left. Tom rushed over to them, already seeing the disappointment on their faces before he got there.
“Dude, what did you do?” Harry asked, a little annoyed with Tom. “You didn’t wish Y/n a happy birthday?”
“You literally met on her birthday last year.” Sam added. “How could you forget that?”
“I don’t know!” Tom groaned, angry with himself. “It completely slipped my mind. I got her chocolates and roses though.”
“For Valentine’s Day.” Harry interjected. “Not her birthday. You’ve been together for almost a year and you didn’t wish her happy birthday. That’s cold, mate.”
“What did she say to you guys?” Tom asked. “Was she upset?”
“She was crying.” Sam told him, making Tom hang his head in shame.
“I gotta go.” Tom decided. “I have to make it up to her.”
“You can try.” Harry shrugged. “I don’t really think she wants to talk to you.”
“And I don’t really blame her.” Sam mumbled under her breath. Tom let out another sigh before getting his things and leaving the party. He stopped by the store to get a few things before driving home to you.
~
Once Tom got home, he peered around a wall and found you sitting on the couch reading a book. He took a deep breath before putting on his most apologetic smile.
“Happy birthday.” Tom said weakly as he presented you with a cupcake. He sat down on the couch next to you but you didn’t budge.
“Who told you?” You asked without looking up. Tom sighed and set the cupcake on the coffee table so he could talk to you.
“Yara.” He admitted, and you nodded like you were expecting that. You continued to read your book, putting a nervous feeling in Toms stomach.
“I’m so sorry, princess.” He apologized as he put a hand on your knee. “I completely forgot.”
“I noticed.” You replied coldly, removing his hand.
“How can I make it up to you?” He asked sweetly, hoping you’d give a little.
“It’s fine.” You sighed. “There was a lot going on today. It’s Valentine’s Day and it’s your brothers birthday. And hey, at least you remembered those.”
“It’s not fine.” He frowned. “I can tell you’re upset. I’m so sorry.”
You finally put your book down and stared straight ahead, not knowing what you wanted to say yet.
“I am upset.” You said, like you were admitting it to yourself. “And I’m not sure why.”
“Because I forgot your birthday.” Tom reminded you quietly.
“But it’s only your first offense.” You thought out loud. “This is just strike one.”
“What?” Tom furrowed his eyebrows. “I’m not following, love.”
“I’m trying to say that you’ve been a really good boyfriend so far.” You finally looked at him. “You pay attention and communicate your feelings and go out of your way to make me happy. You have been a picture perfect boyfriend for the past year and all the sudden…”
“I fucked up.” Tom finished your sentence for you. You laughed softly and nodded.
“Yeah.” You agreed. “So I’m not sure how to react. On the one hand, you forgot my birthday. On the other hand, you were busy all day getting me roses and chocolates and throwing an amazing party for your brothers because that’s the kind of guy you are. Should I be mad that you’re so thoughtful that you took too much on?”
“Are you asking me?” He laughed a little.
“I am.” You softened up and smiled at him. “Because I don’t know what to do. I’m upset you forgot my birthday, but I also know why you forgot. So I’m at a bit of a crossroads right now.”
“Well, the party was no excuse to forget.” Tom didn’t let himself off the hook. “I should have remembered.”
“Yes, you should have.” You agreed. “But this has happened to me before. And the last time it happened, I didn’t get an apology and a cupcake.”
“Yara told me about your ex.” Tom said softly as he put his hand on your knee again. This time, you let him. “I’m not like him.”
“I know you’re not.” You smiled weakly. “You’ve spent the past year proving to me that you’re nothing like him. So yes, I’m upset. But I’m also ready to forgive you.”
“You are?” He asked hopefully, leaning closer to silently ask for a kiss.
“I am.” You accepted his kiss and he smiled in relief. “Just don’t do it again.”
“I won’t.” He promised. “Thank you for forgiving me. I love you.”
“I love you too.” You smiled at him. “Now give me that cupcake.”
Bothered
- A blurb in which somebody flirts with Y/n for the first time, and Harry lets jealousy get the best of him
This is a little Drive Me Wild extra for all your valentine’s day needs!!! I hope you enjoy :)
Masterlist
-
“Tequila, please. The best one you’ve got!”
Open bars at work parties are an absolute lifesaver.
Harry and Y/n have been nonstop on their feet since three, wearing their sunday best, talking to all the higher ups and other officials at the firm with as much professionalism as possible. And though it was certainly a nice break from the work setting, it was still a lot for the both of them to keep up with.
It’s nearly eleven now, the party near its end and the exhaustion finally settling in. But Y/n wouldn’t ever dream of passing up unlimited free drinks whenever offered (neither would Harry, but getting her home safe is his biggest priority). Besides, she needed to take the edge off, somehow.
The bartender smiles at her, his eyes looking at her up and down very briefly before making her drink.
She’s humming softly to herself, her fingers tapping against the bar, the palm of her other hand resting on the back of her neck and she looks around the venue, admiring the architecture and the chandeliers that hang from above her.
“How long have you been working for them?” The bartender asks as he slides the shotglass to her, to which Y/n smiles.
“Almost three years! It’s been really good to me so far. I must say, though, it gets a bit stressful and there are a handful of times we end up having to take our work home. But I’ve met some of the best people through the company, so I can’t complain much! Especially when this is the only job I’ve ever considered staying at for so long.”
When the bartender doesn’t answer, yet rather just stares at her with amusement and endearment in his eye, Y/n starts to get nervous.
She considers diverting her attention back to Harry and moving on with her night as if she hadn’t spoken a word at all, but she’s never been the kind of person to walk away from an uncomfortable silence. And most certainly, she has never found it in her will to escape somebody’s pressing and persistent stares.
All of it just makes her so anxious.
So, as an attempt to calm her nerves, Y/n throws her head back as she takes her shot of tequila, her nose scrunching and eyes squinting as it burns down her throat and settles in her chest.
“What about you? How long have you been working as a bartender? I’ve heard it’s a lot of work, remembering all the recipes and stuff. Whenever I went to university, I would go to bars and get drunk by myself and watch how fast all the bartenders made drinks. I found it mesmerising, really. Like an art, almost. A sport, too, I suppose, given how much you all have to think and act quickly yet unmistakably.”
Harry smiles softly to himself, a bittersweet feeling bubbling in his chest as he listens to her get caught up in her rambles.
She doesn’t do that much with him anymore, not in the way she used to. And it isn’t because she’s lost any trust in him, or because she loves him any less — rather, it’s because she trusts and loves him so much more that she doesn’t feel the need to fill any gaps or spaces between them anymore.
He doesn’t make her nervous.
She doesn’t need reassurance with him because she already knows how madly in love they are with one another and how they are undeniably bound to spend the rest of their lives together. The silences they share are comfortable for her, his simple presence enough to make her feel at ease and loved and respected without him having to constantly remind her.
And surely, Y/n still chews his ear off here and there, but he only ever wants more of her.
It’s a disease, his greed and longing for her. She is so enough yet so not enough at the same time, it kills him to think about it, but only in the best way possible.
But the smile and the admiration die down nearly instantly when Harry’s eyes catch the way the bartender looks at Y/n, and the way he straightens himself before her, and the way his bottom lip tucks between his teeth ever so slightly.
Harry crosses his arms at this, watching the way another man is drooling and fonding over his Y/n and not at all trying to hide it. And the sad part is that he can’t even blame him for it — how could he? He had done the very same thing for nearly two years straight.
So he suffers with it in silence.
“My goodness, I do love me a woman who can carry a conversation.”
Harry’s eyes squint over at him, his arms still crossed over his chest, his fingers twisting as he watches him blink flirtatiously at Y/n and the upward twitch of his lip whenever she flips her hair over her shoulder.
She only ever does that when she’s sweating, he knows this because she’s his girlfriend and he knows her more than he’s ever known himself. He also knows that Y/n thinks too lowly of herself to ever consider one’s kindness as flirting.
And though Harry wouldn’t dare to dream of changing anything about her, he does wish, just this once, that she’d see it.
Y/n blushes at his comment, but only because she doesn’t know what to say.
“Can I have another shot, please?” She asks as a form of distraction, but in such a sweet manner the bartender barely seems to notice. “I never get to go out to drink much nowadays, with work and all. So, I’m sorry if I order too much. Large groups of people aren’t really my thing. Not that I hate people, or anything. I guess they just make me nervous.”
And as the bartender pours her shot glass full of tequila, his eyes don’t make the slightest move to leave her. He’s gawking, looking smug as if he could ever stand a chance.
Y/n pretends not to notice.
“Look, I close down the bar in an hour. And since large groups of people aren’t really your thing, why don’t I take you somewhere nice —”
“Oh...”
“— just you and me, so I can have the chance to get to know you more? Maybe in more ways than one, if I’m lucky?”
Oh, fuck no.
Flirting is one thing, but listening as some stranger talks about wanting to have sex with his girlfriend is something entirely different. Especially when she hasn’t done anything other than be nice and considerate towards him.
He’s taking advantage of her kindness.
Harry can’t hold himself back anymore.
“Excuse me?”
And curse his fucking natural lack of emotion because it was supposed to sound threatening and protective, but rather, it must have come off the way any other customer were to grab a bartender’s attention because he looks over at him with a tight and strained smile, clearly laced with annoyance, with not a hint of suspicion.
“Yes, sir, what can I help you with?”
Harry clenches his jaw and nods his head, his gaze falling to the top of the bar as he tries — really, really tries — to keep himself together instead of knocking this poor bloke’s teeth in.
The urge is there, but he could never scare Y/n like that, or sacrifice his job for satisfaction’s sake — he was lucky he didn’t jeopardize it when he landed a solid right hook on his coworker a few months back. But to make such a rude, blunt, disrespectful comment to his girlfriend is too much for him to process.
But it’s not all anger. There’s something else there — something else brewing and swelling inside of him that’s never been there before. He can’t identify it no matter how hard he tries.
“It would help me tremendously, actually, if you were to stop asking to sleep with my girlfriend right in front of me.”
It’s silent for a moment, the air thick with tension as the bartender looks both between Harry and Y/n, Y/n and Harry. He looks weary of it, as if it were so impossible for her to ever be seen with somebody like him.
“You’re with him?” He asks Y/n, as if Harry’s word wasn’t enough and it nearly throws him off the deep end.
Y/n’s eyes blink with confusion and shock as she tries to adjust herself to her surroundings. Everything happened so quickly to her, she feels like she can’t keep up.
Harry senses this — he senses her uncertainty and uneasiness and takes notice in the way her fingers begin to grip at her shot glass a bit tighter. Confrontation and arguments are not Y/n’s strong suit and in the hands of either one, she is defenseless.
“Is my word not enough for you?”
The bartender lifts his hands up in defense, his eyebrows raised as if somehow proving a point he’s clearly been missing. “Can’t blame me for assuming she’s single, you’re sitting next to the prettiest girl on earth and you look like you couldn’t even be bothered.”
Harry’s hands turn to fists, his jaw clenching and eyebrows twitching as he hears him speak all the words he’d rather die than hear spoken again.
How a complete stranger can cut a wound so deep within him is unfathomable, but here he is, bleeding out with all his insecurities and flaws and weaknesses along with it. And it pains him. It hurts and if one more wrong word is spoken, he’ll fall victim to all the darkest parts of himself.
He can’t risk that, not around Y/n.
“I would highly suggest you stop talking now —”
“You aren’t even interested in her! I gave her more attention in the last ten minutes than you’ve given her all night!”
“Hey.” Y/n cuts in with pouted lips, her face fallen as her voice quivers at the argument brewing in front of her. “That’s not true. He — he’s been beside me all night. I thought it was — I thought it was obvious.”
“Doesn’t matter anymore. We’re going home.”
Harry’s tone is unlike anything she’s ever heard. It’s stern, harsh, laced with impatience as he stands from his barstool and scrambles to gather her belongings.
And Y/n’s at a loss, just standing against the bar helplessly, looking at Harry with tearful eyes and shaking lips. He has never been this angry at her before and she doesn’t know how to fix it. Talking was what got them into this mess, she’s sure talking won’t get themselves out of it.
But it doesn’t hurt to try.
“Wait, H. I’m sorry, I —”
“That’s enough, now. We’re making our last rounds and then we’re going straight home.”
That was the first time he’s ever interrupted her.
-
It isn’t until Harry starts the car that Y/n breaks the silence.
“H, I didn’t know he was going to ask me out on a date.” She speaks with a voice small and shoulders slumped as she tries desperately to fix all the trust she has broken. “I was just trying to be nice and —”
“Not now, Y/n, please.”
She realizes the severity of the situation when he doesn’t call her a pet name.
Her eyes fill with tears, fully aware that even when he was most upset with her, he never interrupted her while talking or avoided her gaze like it was the last thing he ever wanted to see. He’s doing both right now and to say that it hurt her is an understatement.
He’s sick of hearing me speak. He’s angry at me for talking too much to everybody and not noticing the consequences. He’s tired of listening to me make excuses for myself when I’m never going to change. He doesn’t want this anymore.
Her mind can’t help but to think such things, and though deep down in her heart she knows he’d never feel that way towards her, words of her past can’t help but torment her in the heat of this moment. Because this is so different than how it usually is with him, and it all started with her.
Harry can feel how much of a toll his words took on her, but he doesn’t know what to say. He is feeling so many things, and processing so much, he feels like he’s lost himself. All sense of everything else had left him the second the bartender spoke the words he always feared to hear.
You’re sitting next to the prettiest girl on earth and you look like you couldn’t even be bothered.
He knows it isn’t true, and he also knows she knows it isn’t true, but it doesn’t make it hurt any less.
To know other people see it that way devastates him. He doesn’t date Y/n to look uninterested in her, or bored of her, or tired to be with her — he dates Y/n because he wants to show her off, desires to make her and everybody else see how in love with her he is, to make it known she never has to walk this world alone.
To know he has failed to do that simply by being himself is a lot for him to take in.
He sighs, ripping off his glasses so his other hand can rub at his burning eyes before settling the both of them back on the steering wheel, his gaze still set on the windshield.
“I’m sorry for not letting you finish talking, twice now. It wasn’t right and I know what that does to you. And I’m not angry or upset with you, either. I’m just — I’m just not in the mood right now, alright? I need some time to think.”
Y/n nods, fearing that whatever words she chooses to speak will only make it worse.
Neither of them talk the rest of the way home, but that doesn’t mean Harry doesn’t reach his hand over to her thigh to squeeze at it three times, as if to tell her he loves her.
-
It isn’t until they make it into their bedroom that Harry starts to let it all out.
He’s pacing, his hands fidgeting with his clothes and running through his hair, his eyes wild but still refusing to look at her, muttering curses under his breath but nothing directly towards her just yet.
Y/n’s standing by the dresser, taking off her remaining jewelry and allowing him his time to dwell on his feelings. He needs this. She knows she’s the only person that he’ll ever show this kind of emotion to — he couldn't even show it to himself — so she listens, smiles sympathetically at him here and there, refusing to leave his side until this is all figured out.
He huffs before letting out a sickened laugh.
“Who the hell does he think he is? Telling me I’m not interested in you. I can’t be walking around kissing and hovering and touching all over you at a work party, I respect you too much. But he wouldn’t know a damn thing about that, would he?”
He throws his suit jacket down on the bed, only allowing himself one beat of a moment to shake his head before his hands start to fidget again, pacing around the foot of the bed to try and understand his primary emotion.
He feels a million and ten different emotions scrambling within him at once, he can’t make sense of them. Whether he’s angry, or sad, or hurt, or insecure, or humiliated… he doesn’t know. It all feels the same yet all feels so different. He is utterly lost in all of them.
“Then proceeds to have the nerve to say he’s given you more attention than I have. What the fuck does that even mean? All he does is serve you two drinks and speak one sentence. I give you all my time, all my company, all my attention, and somehow he thinks he’s better for you than me?”
And it hits her.
No wonder he’s been acting so different towards her and so quiet despite him not blaming her for what happened — he’s jealous, which is the exact reason he doesn’t have an understanding with it.
She’s his first girlfriend, and until now, there had never been any reason for him to feel this way.
But as sick and twisted as it sounds, Y/n’s heart warms at the thought of it. Because never once has someone ever had a problem with letting her go. Her loss never affected anybody around her, and so nobody had ever feared it.
To know that out of all people, it’s him who does, means everything to her.
She hums at him, an all too knowing smile on her face as she makes her way to her frantic lover, who stills when he notices her closeness.
Her hands rest at his chest, rubbing at it over his dress shirt, just the way he likes. It reminds him of the night of their first date — when she gave into her cravings and put her hands nearly everywhere they could touch — and so she always goes back to that very first moment.
It never fails him.
“It’s okay, lovebug.” Y/n smiles softly at him, her voice even more soft and tender than usual as she tries to get him to relax.
Her hands slither down the hem of his trousers, her fingers resting just above the swell of his bum and pulling him in closer to her. And he wraps his arms around her shoulders, a heavy sigh leaving his lips before bringing his chest toward her cheek for it to nest in.
“Don’t let somebody get the best of you. Especially when they don’t know anything about you or me or our relationship. We know what we are and what we have, it doesn’t matter what he thinks is better for me. I have what’s best. Forever.”
He sighs, the weight of the night lifting from him slightly, but not enough.
He rests his chin on the top of her head, his eyes on the verge of being soaked with tears. Because though he knows her words to be true, he just can’t seem to shake what’s rattling in his bones and picking at his skin.
He wants it all to be okay, and it almost is, just not fully. And it’s killing him from the inside out.
“It’s a new feeling for me.” Harry confesses sadly, trying to think of the right words to say to explain what’s burning in his chest. “It hurts me to feel it. I’m so comfortable and confident in you and yet somehow I can’t — I can’t stop thinking about you and that fucking bartender and him touching you and making you laugh and —”
“You’re jealous.”
She pulls away from him slightly, her eyes looking up at him softly and sympathetically. He gives into her gaze for only a beat longer before looking away from her again, unable to take it.
It all makes sense — the unfamiliar feelings, the scrambling of emotions, the sensitivity to the words that had been spoken about him. His relationship had been threatened for the first time since it started, how could he not be?
“Of course I’m jealous. Which is absolutely horrible because you look so pretty yet it hurts too much to look at you.”
She chuckles, a playful smirk on her face as she reaches her hands up to his cheeks. And she turns his head to the side, forcing his eyes to look into hers as she rubs her thumb along his cheekbones.
Even like this, he is the most perfect man she’s ever seen. She has loved this person longer than she has loved anything else, how he could ever feel jealous of anybody is absolutely beyond her. He is all she will ever need, and everything she will ever want.
He is the only person that has ever deserved her.
“Baby, you have nothing to be jealous of. I don’t think, since the moment I’ve laid eyes on you, I’ve ever bothered to look for anybody else.” His breath faults, then, his heart dropping as if it were falling in love all over again.
And just like that, the hurt is gone.
“I’m yours, H. I have always been yours.”
He wants her to keep going, so instead of answering, he taps the back of her thigh twice. He’s never done so outside of sex, but he needs her all over him, holding him, hanging onto him. He needs it now more than ever.
She giggles, understanding exactly what he wants before jumping up until her legs are wrapped around his waist and her arms are looped around his neck. He catches her instantly, snuggling his face into the crook of her neck and kissing at the exposed skin.
She loves how much her words have an affect on him.
“I love you so much. I always will. No matter how many sleazy men ask me to sleep with them.”
He whines, lifting his head from her shoulder before looking at her with sad eyes and pouted lips at the subtle reminder that somebody else thought of her that way. Only he has, only he can, it doesn’t matter the circumstance.
She’s his.
She smiles down at him with a small blush on her cheeks, her arms unwrapping from his neck so her hands can grip his face again.
“I sleep with you. Every night. In more ways than one.” She kisses at his lips. “Cause I’m lucky.”
And for the first time tonight, he smiles. And as if that wasn’t enough for her, he laughs too — quietly, breathlessly — his hands rubbing all along her lower back and her thighs.
“Hmm... I am lucky, aren’t I?” Harry hums in bliss, his eyes looking at her fondly as she hangs on his neck in their home and it doesn’t get better than this. She had a man practically drooling on her lap and yet she’s here, with him, loving him, choosing him, just like she always has. “I do have the prettiest girl in the world. And the sweetest. And the strongest.”
“Too bad you couldn’t be bothered.” She teases, a smirk on her lips before her tongue pokes out to run quickly against his closed lips.
He lets out an almost sinister laugh, rumbling so deep in his chest she somehow manages to feel it in her legs.
“Why don’t I show you how bothered I am?”
